The next step can feel exciting right up until it requires you to move. If you’ve been praying for clarity but still find yourself hesitating, doubting, or asking “Is this really God?”, this message is for you.

I’m Stephanie, and on the All Is Well Podcast Episode 59, I open Genesis 24 and walk through the story of Rebekah with one simple focus: what do we do when God presents an opportunity? Abraham’s servant prays for guidance at the well, asking God to make the path clear, and the answer comes with surprising speed. Rebekah shows up, responds with kindness, and goes beyond what’s asked by watering the camels too, a powerful picture of character, readiness, and God’s direction unfolding in real time.

But the turning point is the question she’s asked later: “Will you go with this man?” Rebekah’s reply is immediate: “I will go.” No delay, no bargaining, no fear-based stalling. We talk honestly about how often we ask God for a door to open, then panic when it finally does because it pulls us out of our comfort zone. If you’re seeking Christian encouragement, Bible teaching, and practical faith for decision-making, this episode will help you trade hesitation for obedience and trust God’s plan even when you can’t see the full path.

We close with prayer for confidence, and I also invite anyone who wants to accept Jesus to pray along. If this message helps you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find it.

The Next Step Question

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to episode 59. Have you ever wondered what the next step in your life should be? And if you did hear something from God, are you doubting or wondering if it's from Him? Well in today's episode, we're going to view the life of Rebecca and what she did whenever an opportunity was presented to her. So let's get started.

Genesis 24 Sets The Scene

SPEAKER_00

Let's turn to our Bibles to Genesis chapter twenty four. So in Genesis chapter twenty four in this part of the Bible, Isaac's mom had already passed away Sarah. So Isaac was the son of Abraham. And so Abraham was becoming old of age, and so he wanted to find someone for his son Isaac. So in verse one it reads Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age, and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things. So Abraham said to the oldest servant of his house, who ruled over all that he had, please put your hand under my thigh, and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son for my daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell, but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac. And the servant said to him, Perhaps the woman will not be willing to follow me to this land. Must I take your son back to the land from which you came? But Abraham said to him, Beware that you do not take my son back there. The Lord God of heaven who took me from my father's house and from the land of my family, and who spoke to me and swore to me saying, To your descendants, I give this land, he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. And if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you will be released from this oath. Only do not take my son back there. So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master and swore to him concerning this matter. Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and departed, for all his master's goods were in his hand. So the master travelled to a destination. So we're going to jump to verse fifteen.

The Servant’s Prayer For Guidance

SPEAKER_00

And it happened before he had finished speaking, and behold Rebecca, who was born to Bethel, son of Milka, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. Now the young woman was very beautiful to behold, a virgin no man had known her, and she went down to the well, filled her pitcher, and came up, and the servant ran to meet her and said, Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher. So right before this the master was saying, He said, Behold, here I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of men of the city are coming out to draw water. Now let it be that the young woman to whom I say, Please let down your pitcher that I may drink, and she says drink, I will also give your camels a drink, let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Isaac, and by this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master. So as you can see here, the master wanted to be guided to show him which person would be best suited for Isaac. Because the father, Abraham, wasn't there, he wasn't actually there doing the choosing, it was the master. So he wanted that guidance and he wanted to make sure that he would pick the right woman for him. So he said, Whenever this woman comes and she serves me, then that's the woman that's for Isaac. So it did happen as we just read. And so in verse eighteen, it continues and she says, Drink, my lord, then she quickly lit her pitcher down to her hand and gave him a drink. And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said, I will draw water for your camels also until they have finished drinking. Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trowel, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels, and the man, wondering at her, remained silent so as to know whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not. But if you think about it, what we just read before, he was saying the master, he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day and show kindness to my master Abraham. So he was asking guidance from the Lord. So everything that he was asking for, God made his way successful. The woman was brought there to him immediately. She was kind to him. She brought water not only for him, but for the camels. And so it says here in verse 21, and the man, wondering at her, remained silent so as to know whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not. He really didn't have to wonder because the Lord did make his way prosperous. He didn't have to wait there for a while, and she immediately did what he asked. Verse twenty two So it was when the camels had finished drinking that the man took a golden nose ring, weighing half a shekel, and two bracelets for her wrist weighing ten shekels of gold, and said, Whose daughter are you? Tell me please, is there room in your father's house for us to lodge? So she said there was room. So in verse twenty six and the man bowed down his head and worshiped the Lord, and he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his mercy and his truth toward my master. As for me, being on the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master's brethren. So the young woman ran and told her mother's household these things.

Rebekah’s Clear Answer

SPEAKER_00

Whenever Rebecca ran to tell her family, her brother came out. So when her brother came out, Abraham's master told him the entire story of what happened and the reason why he was in that area. So after everything he had heard, in verse fifty two it reads, And it came to pass when Abraham's servant heard their words that he worshiped the Lord, bowing himself to the earth. Then the servant brought out jewelry of silver, jewelry of gold and clothing, and gave them to Rebecca. He also gave precious things to her brother and to her mother. And he and the men who were with him ate and drank and stayed all night. Then they arose in the morning and he said, Send me away to my master. But her brother and her mother said, Let the young woman stay with us for a few days, at least ten, after that she may go. And he said to them, Do not hinder me, since the Lord has prospered my way. Send me away so that I may go to my master. Verse fifty seven, so they asked, We will call the young woman and ask her personally. Then they called Rebecca and said to her, Will you go with this man? So right here, Abraham's servant knew that this was the woman that were to marry Isaac. And so he wanted to take her right away. But the mother and brother said, Can she stay here for about ten more days so we can spend some more time with her? But she needed to go quickly with the servant, so they decided to ask her what she will do. And so they asked her, Will you go with this man? And she said, I will go. So right there, what Rebecca said, she said, I will go. There was no doubt, there was no hesitation, there was no thinking about it, nothing. She said, I will go. She didn't think like her brother and mother did. She didn't say, Well, let me stay here. I don't know when I'm going to see my family or if I'm ever going to see them again. She didn't even say that at all. She didn't hesitate, but she said, I will go.

Leaving Comfort Zones With Faith

SPEAKER_00

Has there been an opportunity in our lives that when it's given to us, are we doubting? Are we hesitating? Or whenever God presents it to us, are we responding like Rebecca and saying, I will go. I will do what you have instructed me to do, God. Because Rebecca was going to a land, to a place where she didn't know anybody. She was going to be removed from her comfort zone. And so it would be understandable for Rebecca to say, Well, let me think about it. But she didn't say that at all. She said, I will go. I will go to where Isaac is, her future husband. She didn't know anything about him. She didn't see a picture of him. That's the first time she ever heard about him. But she said, I will go. And I think that's a lesson for many of us. We're waiting for an opportunity. We're waiting for certain things to happen in our lives. But when they do happen, we hesitate, we doubt, we wonder, we question, we ask God, is this really you? Is this what you want for me? But yet the entire time, this is what we were asking. And then we think, but I don't want to get out of my comfort zone. I don't know how it's going to be like on the other side. But if we look at Rebecca and how she responded, she didn't respond in that manner whatsoever, but she said, I will go. I will go. And you can tell too by her response and by her lack of hesitation that this was something that she desired, that this was something that she wanted, that this was something that she had been looking forward to for a very long time. So if we keep reading in verse fifty nine, it says, So they sent away Rebecca their sister and her nurse, and Abraham's servant and his men, and they blessed Rebecca and said to her, Our sister, may you become the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and may your descendants possess the gates of those who hate them. Then Rebecca and her maids arose, and they rode on the camels and followed the man. So the servant took Rebecca and departed. So they blessed her. They knew what she would become. They knew that the life that she was heading to was going to be better for her. They knew that it was a plan that God had for her life. And so I think that's what we need to remember is that God has a great plan for us. And sometimes it may take us out of our comfort zone or the place that we are familiar with. So she meets Isaac and she sees who he is, and immediately. And so as we keep reading, we know that she has sons and she has her life over there, and everything turns out well for her. She is blessed. She gets married, she meets Isaac, she has sons, she has children, and so that was the life for her that God had for her. So let's think. Where is it that God wants us to go to? What is it that we need to say, I will go, I will do? What is it that God has been speaking to you? What is that tug in your heart that you know you should be doing something, but you haven't pulled a plug yet? Just saying the words, I will go, and stepping into that sends us into the place where we need to go. So

Closing Prayer For Confidence

SPEAKER_00

let's say a prayer before we close. God, thank you for everyone that's listening today. If there is any one of us that are hesitating about the direction that we need to go in, thank you, God, that we will not doubt, but we will have full confidence in what you have for us. Even though we may not know exactly what that path may bring us, we know that anything that you have instructed us to do will be much better than where we're at right now. And thank you, God, that we know that you have the best for us always. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. So
