Have a Good Day On Purpose...
YA' Welcome

Alethea:

yeah, hello, hello, hello. And welcome back to In the Passenger Seat with your hype girl, alethea Crimmins, where we don't just ride, baby, we take off those masks that I know that some of y'all still wearing. Take that shit off. Take that off. We break boxes that people put you in because, baby, we live outside the box. Get outside of that box that people have put you in because, baby, we live outside the box. Get outside of that box that people have put you in. We own who we are and we do it what Out loud. Stop living for other people and start living for you.

Alethea:

Be yourself unapologetically. Do not compromise who you are for anybody. Baby, look, I am me. I am me. I am loud, I am bold, I have a stutter and bitch. I own each and every part of who I am, each and every part, because it's mine. It's me. I am a loud, proud, beautiful gay for all y'all who did not know woman, and I own it, even when people are uncomfortable with who I am, even when people do not like who I am. People talk about me on a daily basis, but that doesn't stop me from being me, because, at the end of the day, there's only one of me, nobody else can be me.

Alethea:

But our issue is that we want to be cropping copies of people that are less than us. Oh wait, let me get out y'all business. But I'm going to say that one more time Y'all want to be carbon copies of people that are less than you. Your identity is not up for debate. Your authenticity is a superpower, baby. You are a superhero, so go out there and be a superhero. All right, now we are in the passenger seat and y'all know I am not by myself. I am not by myself. I have two people, not just one. Two, honey, a dynamic duo, baby. And when you talk about living out loud, when you talk about being who you are, when you talk about I do not give a fuck if you like me or not. If you look up authenticity in the dictionary, I'm sure that you are going to find these two Baby. If you do not know who I'm talking about, y'all gonna know after today. But let's get into this clip.

The Twins:

Yeah, oh, eat, eat, eat.

Speaker 3:

This is no ad. See a big wall. That's a little beat. Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah. Come and get this yum, yum, yummy. You know I got that. Yum yum, yummy. You say you got cash and blow it. I might show a little ass if you throw it and if you got that money, then you get this yum, yum, yummy.

Alethea:

Let me introduce you to a dynamic duo dance floor slayers, honey and champions for living your truth out loud. The Spellman twins Calvin and.

The Twins:

Clinton. What's up? Buh buh, buh buh buh, can we get this? Yum yum, yummy. Buh buh, buh, buh buh.

Speaker 3:

You know, I got that yum yum, yummy. Yeah, we got cash and blow it.

The Twins:

I'm going to show a little ass if I throw it and if you got that money, then you get this yum, yum, yummy. What's up? No, I'm talking, I'm playing and you're not making stuff up. Yes, I'm on the podcast.

Alethea:

Yes, oh, my God. Look, I have been excited for people to be on this podcast, but when I tell you I'm excited that you're on this podcast, no, I'm hella excited. Okay, first of all, I need to know who is who.

Calvin:

Okay, I'm Calvin and I'm Clinton short-haired, Okay, Calvin long hair.

Alethea:

Yes, Now y'all, you better not never cut your hair. Oh I don't because, because, because, damn it, because because don't have me go out, there wait calvin no, he has to keep his hair one of y'all see, that's this.

Alethea:

This is like me, because people recognize me because of my signature hair, so I can't change it. And I've tried to change it. I've tried to wear my natural hair and it's like so I have to keep my signature hair and but summertime is here so it's hot. So you know my signature hair, like y'all be liking this, but sometimes it get hot, so at some point I'm going to have to take this hair off.

The Twins:

Okay, you just going to take it off like that?

Alethea:

Well, it's not mine bitch Fuck, I know, but I can act like it is Like it is. I thought it was. See the tracks.

The Twins:

You see it, okay okay, okay, hold it, bitch.

Alethea:

I own everything about who I am. This is one of the reasons why I had to had to had to have you on here, because you own who you are and it's like I don't give a fuck, I don't care if you don't like it. You don't like it, you, somebody out there likes it and it shows because your fan base is huge. Thank you, it shows I. I love that. You are exactly who you are, exactly who you were meant to be. Yes, took a while, a while Out loud, and we're going to talk about all that, but before people knew Calvin and Clinton, before the music, before the fame, who were you?

Calvin:

Honestly, I would say we were very sheltered children. I feel like we didn't. Yeah, our parents wouldn't let us do anything. It was always we were very athletic. We were very our parents when I say parents, I mean more so my dad and his girlfriend, because our mom was absent when we were six, but or six until we were adults, but anyway, we played sports all our life. It was just school sports, school sports. That's what people have known us as athletes.

Alethea:

You could tell, because body yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy yeah.

Calvin:

Now, mind you, we weren't just like oh, they play sports, no, we did this. So we played football. Since we were six, we played basketball. But when we got into high school, we did this. We played football. Since we were six, we played basketball. When we got into high school, we honed into track and we got scholarships to run track in college. We didn't just do sports, baby, we did sports.

Alethea:

They didn't just play. We didn't just play sports, honey. We were sports, we Nike, we were sports, we were sports, we Nike'd that shit. Yes.

Calvin:

And I want to let people know this because obviously back then we weren't as like, loud and proud as we are now. So people who see that side, they don't know that's how we were back then, like we were really athletes, like people just see us as like creators and like music, you know, but people don't really know we actually really were really good we did this like I was really making to the championships everything in track.

Calvin:

We break school records like we was in the field like don't let this page fool you, bitch, because we'll still kill your favorite athlete, duh so so, basically for for the ones in the back that miss all of this, they are them they are them.

Alethea:

I'm going to be humble unless you do the honors because, listen, because I ain't even got to walk in with my two out baby people. People already know your name before you walk into the door. Listen, my brother used to sell. He used to be one of the biggest dope dealers and he would always say dope sell itself Yep, I ain't gotta do nothing. Dope sell itself Yep, I ain't gotta do nothing. Don't sell itself. Like I ain't even gotta leave my house. Yes, and that is what you give, like that is what you are, baby. You sell you.

Calvin:

Period. You actually just gave me a song idea for our next era them or him or him. Like we are him or them and like you just gave me a song idea okay, as long as I as I could be a feature, because you know, oh girl, do you want to have, like, have a voice in it or something?

Alethea:

like let me do something, like y'all heard it. Like let me do something.

The Twins:

Y'all heard it.

Alethea:

Let me do something. Oh no, we're going to need your inspirational voice today.

Speaker 3:

Oh, bro Watch this.

Calvin:

Oh, you think I'm dead. I'm not joking.

Alethea:

I'm telling you right.

The Twins:

When do I?

Alethea:

need to book a flight. It's all I'm asking.

Calvin:

Either book a flight or get a session. But, girl, we're going to make it happen. So y'all hear that first hand from Spelman Twins. We're having a future collab on the way.

Alethea:

Okay, okay, okay, because I'm ready. You're going to eat, we're going to eat, because what is four plus four Bitch? I think it means eight, two plus six. Eight, nine minus one bitch. I think it means 8, what's 2 plus 6, 8, 9 minus 1, 8 cause, that's all we gonna do duh.

Alethea:

You see, that wasn't my thing for a second cause I was like come on, twins, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, get it, get it, get it, come on, come on. I had to come on, get it, get it, get it, come on.

Calvin:

No, because I had to catch it. I said six minutes. That wasn't my brightest suit, okay For me. I was trying so hard not to use my hand. Six I suck at math. I am not. I was too on the spot, though I wasn't prepared for that, but I had to lock in.

Alethea:

I'm going to have to send y'all look, we're going to do math in this next episode.

Calvin:

We're going to do math bitch, I haven't done math for a long time. All I know is that you was trying to say eight for everything. I was like, okay, I caught on.

Alethea:

Bitch, eight, eight, eight. What's the square root of eight? Eight Y'all have such an electric energy and like it's not just because y'all twins. Y'all twins, like y'all just share some dope ass life experiences together and not everybody has that. How did your early life shape what we see now, the bold, resilient, fine ass men that we see right now?

Calvin:

I'm gonna have them answer first and then I'll answer okay, I think it's what happened was when it was a time where, like, uh, I got caught coming like talking to people, like when I was younger and my dad found out I was gay, and I think that's kind of where it kind of shaped where we are, because we kind of like ran away from home. Not kind of we did. We went away from home at 17 and then it was always just us and then just going in from there, we were always together, like wherever we went. I think it's deeper than that, though. I think for for us, I think for me, I can speak for myself my boldness and proudness of who I am, it comes from like our dad was, like he wouldn't let me like dance, like I couldn't do dance classes.

Calvin:

I couldn't. He always wanted to do sports, sports, sports, and it was always like we had to obey them and everything was gay. Yeah, and again, I mean so because during our childhood, it was mainly our dad and his girlfriend, so we weren't able to, I wasn't able to be myself. Constantly Say, if we say we got in trouble at school and it was false information, I wasn't able to like voice, like the correction, so I was always silenced is the word all my life. So I think now I think where my personality comes from is for being silenced for so long as a kid and not be able to speak how I speak. It carried to my adulthood, so I think that's where it I'm known for a fact. That's why I am the way I am today.

Alethea:

That is a story that so many of us in the queer community can relate to, like I know for me Definitely can. And how do you, how did you not lose who you were through all of this? Because there was a time where I faked the funk, like I had to fake it to make it. I had to fake it to make it. So how did you not lose yourself through all of this? Because I'm sure that there is somebody out here watching that feels the rejection of their family right now, like they've been dis disowned by people who say that they love them unconditionally. So how do you, how do you not lose your yourself dealing with all of this?

Calvin:

I think for us, I think at this point in our life, I think not losing ourself would stem for us wanting to succeed and prove that we could do this life without you. We don't need you in our life. I think, now that the stuff we worked on I just give you some little I'm going to hype myself up real quick Little milestones. My brother and I decided to hop on social media in 2018. We got on TikTok in 2017. Created a big following from there. We also just graduated, december 2023. We went through college alone, alone, no help, and we graduated in six years. Took us six years, but we did it. We were. We got a scholarship to run track uh, d1, mind you, a D1 scholarship. Then what happened recently? Oh, we're about to uh, we're about to get our master's in social work to be at LCSW, all by ourselves so.

Calvin:

I'm just gonna hype myself up. So to answer your question, what keeps us from being, you know, to losing ourselves is to want to succeed, because we want to prove our parents when we hit them fucking stages, because the Spelman twins are going to be on the motherfucking stage. You're going to know our name and then when you see us on TV, then people are going to be like oh, those are your kids and you don't look fucking dumb because you want to be homophobic this is what I always say like.

Alethea:

I'm very much driven like you because I no longer have a relationship with my family either. I have my chosen one that I chose myself, but my biological family I do not have a relationship with, and for the longest time, my focus was to prove them wrong. Now, now that's no longer my focus. Why? Because when you try to prove them wrong, it still makes it about them.

Calvin:

Yeah, exactly.

Alethea:

So now I want to prove me right.

Calvin:

Yes, yes, yes, and I think that's where we're at too at this point. It's not so to prove. When I say prove them wrong, it's more like I'm going to prove to myself that we can do it, because I don't think about them on the daily, I think Recently. I'm thinking of how the fuck we're going to get to Brazil and do this feature that we got. I'm thinking about how we're about to be on the next stage. I'm trying to think about how can we get this deal. I'm trying to think how can we get our name out there more. That's what I'm thinking about.

The Twins:

I ain't thinking about them because, they over here and we over here, Girl, you taught me something. You taught me something we were studying girl.

Alethea:

Because they over here and bitch we over here.

Calvin:

Use that one. Use that one and you know what, also helps us a lot too, I think, since, like I said, we were very sheltered. We want to prove to ourselves that we could. You know, we got thrown into the world. I ran away when I was 17, so it was crazy. It was crazy um, we're always going to deep, uh dive into that, but it's like we had to grow up with, we grew up with each other and we keep ourselves in check. I feel like we're our own parents.

Speaker 3:

Yeah I love that we're our own parents.

Calvin:

we really are like we don really talk about that, but we technically are each other's parents Because, like something like I'll do, I'll be like bitch, what are you doing?

Speaker 3:

And I'll be like what are you doing?

Calvin:

So we really parent each other. It's weird to say, but we do.

Alethea:

No, it's really not, because you have become not only your own best friend, but each other's, and you hold each other accountable. Yes, and that that's that's something that we don't have, but by you holding each other accountable, you also hold yourself. Yes, okay it. It makes you more self self aware of what you have going on, and that's so important, because a lot of times, we don't do that, and I love how your validation does not come from anything outside of what you have going on right here, from anything outside of what you have going on right here.

Alethea:

Your validation is not in the outside world, your validation is not from him, because you don't have that daddy issues. He had issues being a daddy, so that's different. That's different. And you don't go outside because so many people I'm talking about me when you don't get that validation from home, you go out there and you seek it yeah, that's true, that's true because it's something that you never had.

Alethea:

Yeah, and the fact that you left, but you left with a mission. Like you, you didn't just leave, like you didn't just run away and then was like okay, what the fuck I'm gonna do now. Like you ran away with a mission, you ran away with a goal, you left saying I am going to not and our verbiage is so important because you didn't say oh, oh well, I hope that something works, I hope that some. No, you left with the mindset I don't give a fuck what. I am going to make something out of my self just for that alone. Like Hair flip on them holes, hair flip on them holes Because you did this, you did this.

Calvin:

We've lived so many. I feel like we've lived multiple lives. If you go back in time, it wasn't that long ago. Like it's so weird, like it really wasn't.

The Twins:

It feels like we like 2017 was only around the corner.

Calvin:

Yeah, yeah, dang, and like I feel like. So I feel like our parents like kind of knew in a sense we'll be fine, because I'm really like the rebellious twin like I really I am. I'm very rebellious like, especially when we live with them. I kind of, as I got, I kind of started voicing myself a little bit, no matter whether I got hit for it, but um yeah that's why I ran away, even though I ran away.

Calvin:

I ran away Cause our dad found out the night of us being gay, but I ran away Cause I knew like our life would be over with and he was why waste my time any further? Right? So I ran away that night. I ran away that night and, yeah, I actually didn't have a plan, it was just so spontaneous. I literally left with nothing. I just was like I already had a plan where I was going to do like, go to like Reading and see my mom, but I did have a mission to succeed at the end of the day, like I knew, like, oh, even though I'm going out here in the world, even though I'm going out here in the world, I still am a go-getter.

Alethea:

We're going to get it, no matter what. I love that mindset though.

Calvin:

I feel like it's hard to have that mindset though. So anyone watching you kind of have to constantly hype yourself up. You do Because I think recently we were kind of down about something, but then we had to remember I like the struggle. I kind of like it because when you get to the top it's like then, then what? So like you're like, okay because I, because, like you know, just because you have the top don't mean they're happy, right.

Alethea:

so, oh, it's true yeah it's true listen, because some, some, some people look looks can be deceiving, because some people look happy way up there but they're not really happy because what it's what success means to them, exactly it's what their level of success means to them. Like I could be way at the top and still not happy because I haven't reached what I think. But sometimes it's not our level, it's other people. So we we are constantly trying to reach a level of success that is not unattainable.

Alethea:

Yeah, Cause me, me being able to quit my job and do what I love full time bitch. I am successful bitch. I am successful in my eyes me leaving a job doing what I love, never missing a meal, never missing a bill, being able to take care of well, let me not lie, in case my wife is watching. My wife does take care of me, but I do help, bitch, I do help, I do help, I do help.

Calvin:

So being able to help take care of my wife and kids like that is success yes, I agree, and you know there's a quote that makes me happy, that I think about when I'm like down, you know what you give me the energy and a lot of people do. That's successful. You're not the moment, you're the movement. Does that make sense? You're not the moment a movement, you don't know because?

Alethea:

because moments last like this yeah, two seconds.

Calvin:

a movement is a lifetime and Exactly, and I feel like Because they are still talking about Martin Luther King.

Alethea:

Exactly he was the movement. They are still talking about Harriet Tubman. They were a movement. They were a movement.

The Twins:

And for us.

Calvin:

I want to be a movement, not a fucking moment.

Calvin:

No, you will be. We have a story to tell. We're gay, we're black, we're loud, we're proud, and we want to inspire other black people like that. You could be yourself, no matter what. Even if you have a homophobic father or parents, you can still be successful. We are a testament of that. So don't ever let nobody tell you that you cannot be successful. Black, gay, proud, and still do you Bitch. We up right now. All of our people of color are up right now. We got the movie Sinners Right now. We got some hot artists coming right now. Black people are winning right now. We winning.

Alethea:

And we're going to keep winning Period. I just have to end that because it was like period. Yes, so how has like? So I read your bio and it said that music was your escape. That's how you. It was your safe space, Right, but now it's become your platform.

The Twins:

Yeah which is so weird.

Alethea:

How has owning your identity, identity publicly through your music, changed not just your lives but the lives of your fans? Because fans are watching, they are listening, they know your story, so how has has that changed?

Calvin:

um, well, I can just say this about you think I think like our music is very I mean, as you can see, it's bold, like, if you see the visuals and like what we do and what we represent, we I actually just saw a comment the other day. Some guy was like I like this, the love this generation, how y'all just don't give a fuck about nothing, and I love it. And when you meet says that like we don't give a fuck about other people's opinions. So I think that us being bold and like what we do in our visuals, like our our music video coming soon, the Yum Yum music video. Wait till you see the music video. Yum Yum music video coming May 9th, next week.

Alethea:

Bitch, because what I saw, all that challenges all your documents. You haven't seen nothing.

Calvin:

It's music video next week, so stay tuned. But look, I think that our bold representation of what we do is kind of like why I feel like people are gravitating towards our sound. I think we've made some really good. We've been meeting a lot of people in the industry that are like we. Like to meet people with energy right, Like you, for example. I don't care how big somebody is If we don't mess.

Calvin:

We ain't working or we? I don't want to know you Right, I don't give a fuck. Shivers don't mean shit to us. We be with people who got a million, 10 million followers. Girl, I don't give a fuck. Duh Sex. You're just one person, a follower. Don on followers. That don't make you Like we have followers too bitch. I love everyone that support us. I don't want to say followers, supporters, people that support you. You got to treat those people good too. Like, if I look up to someone and you have no energy, girl, I'm not working with you.

Alethea:

Like people really do have the idea, which I love that for me, but people think that because I do what I do, that I'm bigger than what I am right. It's like that that I know exactly what you mean at the end of the day, bitch, I'm me like, if, if you look in the back, I live in an apartment. Bitch, I drive a Ford Fusion. Bitch like I am regular dangly.

Calvin:

But I am one of one, exactly.

Alethea:

I am one of one. We're just alike.

Calvin:

Look, look, we have a Ford and we also have a nissan altima. Um, let's see, we also. We're family support counselors too. I don't know if nobody knows that, but we also are. Yeah, I'm a counselor.

Speaker 3:

It's weird which doesn't really make sense because our energy.

Calvin:

But no, no, no it does. It transpires in my field because I, because I break a lot of my cases. So trust me, it transpires. I do want to say because you live in an apartment that does not mean anything. The biggest people live in apartments because houses is a lot of maintenance.

Alethea:

And I can't do it. I'm just, we have to know our lane and stay in it, and sometimes that be the issue. Y'all want to jump lanes bitch. I'm not trying to wreck, so I'm going to stay in my lane and my lane is. I know that. I don't want to pay nobody to fix my roof, thank you.

Calvin:

I'm going to call the maintenance man and they come and fix it yes, yes, and you save and you get to make your money doing what you love travel, do whatever you want, because a house don't. Or a house or apartment because, like I said, people got houses and mansions and are they fucking happy.

Alethea:

No, and this is what people have. Anybody who is listening right now? Stop letting people tell you what success should look like. Stop letting people tell you what your success should look like. You are the author of your own story. Stop letting people write chapters in your book. It's yours, so why are you allowing other people to come and tell you how to write your shit?

Calvin:

Exactly Caught that motherfucking skia.

Alethea:

Make that make sense. Yeah, like this is your life, it belongs to you. You have literally been rejected. This basically thrown away by people who say that they love you. That does not make you any less valuable. You, you went from that to performing at prides, to like being on stages. You about to have a whole music video out here in these people's streets yes, true yes, like you, that it doesn't matter who who is not.

Alethea:

It doesn't matter how broken, what people try to break you, because they may bruise you, but they ain't gonna never break you, baby, they ain't gonna never break you. And even in your brokenness, what I know and understand as a former pre-k teacher, I had a lot of broken crayons in my classroom and each one of them bitches still colored. So it does not matter. It does not matter. It does not matter. Baby, you can still be broken and be a masterpiece, you still have value and you are the walking talking like movements. That says exactly that.

Calvin:

Yep, and I tell people all the time. I tell people, I motivate people, I tell them like I feel like if I didn't go through what I went through in my life, it would not. I wouldn't be where I am today. I tell people you turn your negativity into a positive like, oh yes, I feel like no, I feel like everybody has a story.

Speaker 3:

You want your story like to reflect who you are as a person but you don't want that to be the excuse you don't want to be an excuse why you can't do something you have a story, but let your story be.

Calvin:

it be a lesson, not an excuse to why you're the way you are, if you're successful.

Alethea:

Run that back because somebody, somebody going to catch that next week and I need them to catch it now. Ok, one more time.

Calvin:

I said don't use your success as a don't use that why a bad situation as an excuse. Use that as a success story.

Alethea:

Okay, so stop, what, what, what, what he's saying? Because, because he, he's, he's, he's saying it, nice, but, but, but, but, y'all know me, I don't, I don't, I don't play that. Yeah, translate it for me. Making excuses just because you're going through some bad shit right now does not mean that that bad shit will be going on for the rest of your life. Stop using that one thing as. Oh well, you know, since I didn't make it, I ain't gonna never make it, because last time, bitch, that was yesterday.

Alethea:

She sounded like Jocelyn when she said that that was yesterday. Today is what you make it, so what are you going to make your today? Thank you. What are you going to make your today?

Calvin:

Because no one's waiting on you While this person, while you depressed this person over here, about one step closer to fame.

Speaker 3:

Why you over here?

Calvin:

depressed.

Speaker 3:

Nobody waits for you, Unfortunately no one waiting for us Cause we seen it firsthand.

Calvin:

Ain't no one waiting for us? We went through psychosis. We're in the hospital. For three weeks we lost everything we had and nobody. People who dropped us off because we were weren't them bitches. I guess you could say we lost our notoriety, but bitch we bounced back.

Alethea:

So where you at now, bitch ignore, that's where you at. So. So what was when you say you lost everything, like everything?

Calvin:

well. So we lost our apartment, we lost our job, lost our job. We had working. We went to uh psychiatric for three weeks. So people don't know that because I don't know what happened. But we went to la, we went to an event and whatever happened there, I guess we kind of I think our brain was like overstimulated or something, because we also got kicked off the track team during that, during that time.

Calvin:

So we had to drop out yeah, we dropped out of school too and we had no money, so we lost everything and so, luckily, we had this is 2019 yeah.

Calvin:

So I think that's and that's a big. 2019 was a big awakening for us and how we who we really are today, cause we learned the fake. We learned who the snakes are, we know when someone's loose, and we learned like like. That's when we learned about like, cause we were 19 when this happened. I thought we were very young. I'm happy it happened to us, though, because it helped us navigate the social media world in the industry, because people are hella fake. People didn't have our back, like they said they did. They turned on us like we literally had nobody, and nobody waited for us either, like. So that's why I always say nobody waits for you and nobody feels really sorry for you. So you gotta do things, you gotta you gotta make it your on your own, and luckily we again. We always had each other, so so it's easy to bounce back faster?

Alethea:

yeah, I guess, but you're like y'all are the billboard of. It's not about the fall, it is about the rise thank you it's not about the fall, because people, yes, they will watch you fall, but they really want to see how you get up. Yep, they really want. Oh yeah, yes, yeah, they fell, but let me watch them now, let me see how they get up.

Calvin:

Yeah, yeah, that's what people want to see.

Alethea:

Even your haters are watching how you get up. Oh, that's for real.

Calvin:

Oh, they are all the time People will always be in our comment section or DM. Someone texted us. They're like talking about a fuck y'all. My brother sent a little kissing emoji. We thought I was going to be mad.

Alethea:

He said well, there's, there's a reason there's. So, for all of your haters that are watching, for all of your haters that are watching, let me just tell you why you have haters, because I know that some of your haters are watching right now. Hi, how are you? Yeah, I look cute, Thank you. So haters y'all haters stands for having anger towards everyone reaching success. That's why y'all mad at my boys right here. Oh, I'm using that.

Calvin:

I'm using that. That's a song title right there.

Alethea:

That's why y'all mad, because y'all have anger towards everybody reaching success, because y'all not at that level yet.

The Twins:

Yep.

Alethea:

Aww.

The Twins:

Aww, wait, I need that, I need that, I need that.

Calvin:

Go ahead and take it. We need to get our next song because we need your motivating quotes in the songs thank you.

Alethea:

Listen how? Because y'all, y'all's confidence in who you are and just living out loud is so inspiring to me. And people ask me all the time and you are exactly what I am about to say, and after this I need to get y'all's shirt sizes. So people ask me well, how did you get so bold and so confident? Three letters F-T-P. Fuck them people Because I do not care.

Calvin:

It's facts, though, like you literally have to. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off, but it's true. Like I think, when we came out in 2022, 2021, we came out on national coming out day. It was a weird moment for us. We were like we. I was like we're tired of hiding who we are, like it's like it's not. People are following us, but they don't know who we really are.

Calvin:

Then that's when you, once you come, once you come out and be yourself, regardless if you're gay, straight, whatever and once you become yourself, that shit transpires to the world. And once we came out, our life changed from there, literally. Once we came out and we decided to be who we are in bold, you can't care about what other people are saying to you when we go out in public and stuff. We still respect it. That's the funny part. We even got the straight people coming up to us and be like y'all dope, y'all be doing this, and that we had an interview with the probably most straightest people ever for DJs. We had a DJ call. All straight, they were fucking with it.

Calvin:

So it's like it's your energy. It's not about because you're gay. This it's not about that. It's about the person. People don't care about if you're gay or not, it's how you carry yourself. So how you carry yourself when you're bold and you're in your truth, that's when people fuck with you. Because people can spot fake authenticity. Because I can, he can, I can spot a snake a mile away.

Calvin:

I'm like a hawk, I can spot my dinner a mile away. Like I can see.

The Twins:

Someone's out there right now.

Calvin:

Social media don't play about that fake shit, what you see right now, social media don't play about that fake shit, what you see right now. What you see right now is how me and my brother act 24-7 Because people.

Alethea:

They ask me Is this a game? No, I knew you, we know this is me, all day, all night, 24-7. I wake up like this, I wake up like this, and I woke up like this, like this is me. And people some people do not like who I am because they're like oh, but she's loud, well, she's this. Well, who asked you? Because I don't care. Because what they eat don't make me shit.

Calvin:

So guess what? There's a lot of quotes on here.

Alethea:

I'm using Like I'm going to wake up and be exactly who I am tomorrow, Like it's not going to change. Other people's opinions don't matter, because opinions are like assholes Everybody has one and some of them are full of shit, so it doesn't matter.

Calvin:

Oh, you A.

The Twins:

It doesn't matter.

Alethea:

I love y'all so fucking much Wait we can't forget what's your Zodiac sign. Gemini.

Calvin:

You know, what's funny?

Alethea:

Wait, wait, wait.

Calvin:

Okay, I will say Gemini do have a bad rep, but for some reason Pisces and Gemini make good friends, okay.

The Twins:

Okay so we good on that.

Alethea:

So, like, what you're saying is like we gonna be besties. Um, what I'm saying is like, are we going to be besties? What I'm saying is die the fuck.

Calvin:

That's how I be feeling. When you be talking on the, when you go to the videos Like girl, I said please, y'all. I mean I love, I'm so glad that we found each other because I need some more motivational shit. You be having me like, if I'm down, yo, when I'm down, when I be seeing those videos, I'm like, oh bitch, I'm happy again. Like I remember, I commented the other day on one of the posts. I was like oh, you can yell at me, yes.

Alethea:

I'm like I love and bitch, I would like. I tried, because people, because sometimes the shit gets to your head and like you like, well, do I scream a lot, like do I? So I tried to be in my like Tabitha Brown era where I was like, okay, guys, like you know, and because we're going to have a good day, I don guys, like you know, and because we're gonna have a good day and I was like I can't fucking do this, like that's not even who I am, like you know what bitch.

Alethea:

If you do not like me, unsubscribe, bitch. Your seven day free trial is up.

Calvin:

Unsubscribe people are so hypocritical on social media like we. So like obviously we're gay, so like we're gonna post gay things and like we have like a hell of like we still got followers, but like hell of people like unfollowed us. Um, it was like because we went from like 121 000 to 115, because we started like we just been ourselves, but like we wouldn't follow. It's like y'all knew what y'all were looking at. So what are you confused for? Let it be a female, though. Y'all all over that. But because I'm being me, you have an issue. But, like, again, I'm happy though, because the those people who fell off y'all weren't my real supporters. You were fake as fuck. So I purposely do things for people to unfollow me because the people who fuck with us are gonna stay. Like all we do is monitor our business posts. It's my fucking page, you don't have to watch me.

Alethea:

So, bitch, get the fuck on followers don't mean shit, and for every one person that unfollows me, 10 more people every day, and they do, and they do and they do.

The Twins:

And they what?

Alethea:

and they do I love y'all so much wait wait, wait, let me, okay, wait, I gotta get back to my Sorry.

Calvin:

I know it's hard, so fucking hard bitch.

Alethea:

I know we bring it out people, I forget we be bringing people out, like if y'all are listening, like some of y'all are watching, so y'all can see the like vibe Y'all can see. But for those of y'all who are listening, like I am sitting here trying to contain myself Because if, like, if you can see them like they are, you are, I just want to reach into my. Come here, whoa.

The Twins:

Here I am the bug.

Alethea:

Let's come here, like I want to book if I like like today, yes, I want to see your.

Calvin:

The energy will be so low, so low. We'll be so loud like, yes, no, I want to see your the energy will be too.

Alethea:

Yeah, so, though, so though, okay, so let's jump into your music, because your music has just as much energy as you do. So what? What you call this is brazilian funk.

Calvin:

It's like a high it's like element, so the sound and the beat is like they're. They're funk inspired, but it has a lot of like pop. It's really pop and like and hip-hop vibes, but it's funk. The beats are usually brazil. We make our beats with our friend and the. When we get, when we make the beat together, it's like funk, so it's brazilian. It's infused also with like trap. I don't know if you ever hear like beat together. It's like funk, so it's Brazilian, infused Also with trap. I don't know if you ever hear the bass.

The Twins:

It has a spirit.

Calvin:

We start with the funk beat like a bass, and then we add trap, hip-hop and pop elements to it. It's weird. We have a weird.

Alethea:

But it works.

The Twins:

It works.

Alethea:

So let's talk about Yum, yum. Oh yeah, because they are. It works so let's talk about Yum Yum. Oh yeah, because like they are more than just bops, like Yum Yum, pom Pom De Niro, oh girl she's been studying.

The Twins:

The song ain't out yet.

Calvin:

She's studying the song Pom Pom and De Niro ain't out yet, but it's about to be out, it's about to be Bitch. I do my research. Bitch, yeah, clearly, clearly. This girl, that's crazy.

Alethea:

Like they're more than just like bops. Your music gives people permission to take up space To just exist as they are. Was that the like? Was that your intention when like putting this album together?

Calvin:

You want to know the backstory behind the album. Yes, tell her the backstory of what.

The Twins:

The album we're working on.

Calvin:

Okay, it's how we be acting too, I'm like what's up?

Calvin:

I mean I was going to say get to it. You have to tell me that. What was the damn question? Uh, like our album. That's why one thing about me I forget I have to say. That's why I think, when he talks sometimes, because I forget I got you the intention of our album.

Calvin:

Okay, that's your, our music. In the past I feel like. So, when we performed our pride events last, like I think it was two years ago, the music was not, honestly, it's good music, but like it was boring to perform to me. So, okay, I told me my brother, we're like, okay, this can never happen again.

Calvin:

So, like, the music we make has to reflect our personality. Because if you see even our skits of these, our skits, our music, it all reflects how me and my brother really act like and it matches our energy. And so we want to make sure, like this upcoming album and like even yum yum to be an anthem of like, uh, any like of our community. People can just come and even though the Yum Yum's kind of vulgar, it should not matter. It should be about the energy of what it brings. It should give you feel good dance, it should make you want to twerk the song Yum Yum. If you don't want to twerk when you hear the song, forget the lyrics. If you don't want to twerk to that beat, if're not trying to do that if you ain't trying to do that with the lyrics.

Calvin:

Did you hear that boom, boom? That's what we want you to do. We want you to throw it back, yes and then. So we want our album to give energy. So, like our album. The name I haven't even announced the name, but I guess it's gonna be the first I'm gonna announce the album name. It's called exclusive. So yeah, so the album touches on like money, partying, fun, sex, um, so exclusive. So it's actually exclusive with it's exxx, because you know like it's just like yeah, so it's like explicit, so it shows like sex unfiltered raw Spellman twins.

Calvin:

So yeah, so y'all hearing it now. The album name is Exclusive. That's the name of it.

Alethea:

Exclusive. Yes, okay, so we got the album name first. Yes you did.

Calvin:

Yeah, that's how well you deserve the album name.

The Twins:

You opened that up for us, so.

Calvin:

Exclusive.

Alethea:

Because XXX. Yes, so for all of y'all that need to know or that do not know what XXX means, type it into your Google. No, I'm sorry.

The Twins:

No but yes, and watch what pop up.

Alethea:

Yeah, people, uh, um 17 and lower, don't look so I'm, I'm, I'm just letting y'all know that if y'all don't know what XXX means, type it into your Google search bar and watch what pops up.

Calvin:

Yeah, at your own dispense. Yeah, just be prepared.

Alethea:

Yeah, yeah.

Calvin:

Like I said, though, that's where it comes from. We want to make music Honestly. We want to have music where we can dance to on stage and turn up a crowd, and I feel like we do a good job doing that, so I think mission was accomplished when it came to this album.

Alethea:

Yeah, because I have never and this is a compliment in every sense of the word Like I have never heard a more openly gay song, and I fucking love it, I love it. I was like, ooh, this is gay, gay, gay, gay it's so weird to hear people like our music.

Calvin:

People say like they like it.

Calvin:

I still get like shocked, like people like our music. So in hearing someone say that like still, it's just like what? Because it'd be different if people were like, oh, y'all's stuff is trash, why y'all dropping stuff? But people actually nowadays they'd be like we're not dropping, we're not dropping, they don't care about skits. Because we don't really make skits anymore, really like that, because we dove into year and we're like we don't want to just be comedians like I don't want to do that we're. I think we're entertainers if anything. Yes, yeah, entertainers. Like we can go host clubs and do stuff like that but and make music. But I don't think we're full-on, can be.

Alethea:

I don't want to be a comedian yeah, no, because because you're don't, don't put yourself into, to to a box, which is, which is something that I do not have to tell y'all.

Calvin:

Yeah, and also I don't want to be known as a gimmick, because we're more than just we're very like. Yes, we are very fun to be around, but I feel like we're also inspiring and we actually are serious, we are serious about all of our craft, like what we do.

Calvin:

The seriousness of it is like we want to have fun and it's a message behind it, regardless, like even though it's not like a motivational or like sad song where you can relay a message. It still is a message, though, because for our community to be happy and loud and proud when they do listen to our music and we are very we motivate people um, even like we're more than just the funny, like we have lots of layers to me, to us so like it's all a whole entertainment personality that's what I say.

Calvin:

It's a mixture of everything like you said, don't same. Yeah, you're funny, but you also entertain, like you say. You're really really like yeah you are funny. But like also, when you can get serious people can. I'm like people, I'm sure know they can look to you for motivation yeah, thank you yeah, I do oh well.

Alethea:

Well, speaking of motivation, we have come to one of my favorite segments of the podcast, ask aletheia, where I take questions from my listeners and we answer them on my podcast. So this question that I have asked Alethea. It says Alethea, I've been trying to live authentically, but every time I do, I lose people, families, friends, even relationships. How do you keep choosing you when it costs you people that you love? Oh, I can answer that. I'll let y'all answer this, because you were like tag me.

Calvin:

Yes, tag me in Tag team this, so okay. So here's my my thing. I always am true to my. I always say for you I would say stay true to yourself because, regardless, you will come to realize people only loved you with conditions, not unconditionally. So, um, like I feel like for me, I could relate to my father. He didn't love us unconditionally, he loved us with conditions. So when he found out we were gay, that's when you, that's when you realize who's there for you and who's not. So I would say, continue to keep being you and keep, because you're going to make a chosen family at the end of the day You're going to.

Calvin:

You're going to create a family of boys. Yes, it is kind of. It does start off kind of depressing and dark. I'm not going to lie, I'm not. I'm just I'm gonna be real. But at the end of the day, you are going to choose your journey, You're going to choose your family and then it's going to all fall into place. So, keep being you and keep being authentic because, again, we have chosen family. We've we've connected with a bunch of people that's not even our relatives, blood related so, and they ride for us harder than our family. So, keep being you. At the end of the day is all I can say. And you will just keep being you because you don't want to be around fake people. You want to be around people who actually love all of you and be all of you. Don't dim your light for nobody. Be yourself authentically.

Speaker 3:

So I'll leave it at that.

Alethea:

I'll leave it at that Period.

Calvin:

Baby, I'm Y'all, don't even need to hear what.

Alethea:

I'm saying Okay, so listen. So this is for anybody that needs to hear this, along with my listener who asked the question Baby, choosing you will always cost you, but it's going to always cost you the wrong people. Oh, I love that.

The Twins:

Choosing you will always cost you the wrong people listen.

Alethea:

If loving yourself makes people walk away, then baby silk sonically, leave the door open and let them walk out. Yes, let them, because that means that they were not for you anyway, they were not for you anyway, I got chills. They were not for you. Anyway, if loving you means losing them, then let them go. Baby Elsa, that shit, and let it go.

The Twins:

Let it go Let it go. You're not going to bother me anymore.

Alethea:

Let it go.

The Twins:

Let it go. Let it go. You want to make a trap behind that.

Alethea:

Listen, because you do not need that in your life. You don't need people in your life that's just going to tolerate you. You need people that's going to celebrate you, that's going to ride for you, that are going to love you, for you and help you grow and choose you even more and help you to become your favorite version of yourself. Yep, so choose you, choose you, because that's what you're supposed to do. Period, period.

The Twins:

We ate, that we ate that Wait, nine minus one. Eight, you cannot do that to me. It was the crickets for me. It was the crickets for me, bitch, that's what Eight.

Calvin:

You threw me on the spot.

The Twins:

It was the crickets for me. Okay, wait.

Calvin:

Your laugh is gonna have me weak. In person, I can already tell. Your laugh is going to get me every time.

The Twins:

Oh shit Okay.

Alethea:

I already came up with this game because this is the first time that I've ever had twins. So before I let you go, we have to play twin it, twin it, twin it, twin it, twin it, twin it, and y'all have to both answer at the exact same time. Okay, y'all have to answer at the same time. Okay, question number one who is the messier twin Me? Me it takes longer to get ready Me.

The Twins:

Well, damn.

Calvin:

Yo, I'll say I want to go somewhere. One, two ready, ready, I'm already downstairs. He take hella long texting like hurry up, we gonna be besties me.

Alethea:

Yes, calvin, we gonna be besties, because this takes time.

Calvin:

I gotta look good this takes some time no, like it's image, I don't gotta try no, with him he'll. No, I won't have to either. I can't remember what I'm gonna wear already. He be looking for stuff. Oh girl, I be dipping sauce. Okay, but look, I won't have to either.

The Twins:

I can't remember what I'm going to wear. Already he be looking for stuff.

Calvin:

No, listen, oh girl, I be dipping sauce. Okay, but look, no. Okay, but he'll leave the house and then he'll forget something. So I got to double check the house before we leave. Now I don't do that, no more, okay, next question. Next question who the sexier twin?

Alethea:

Me. Who the sexier twin Me? Girl bye. So who has the best fashion sense Me?

Calvin:

Well that's subjective though.

The Twins:

I would say both, both.

Calvin:

Yeah, I can't say one or the other, because I step in too. Because I tune into our femininity. When we do fashion, love it To the the masculinity, so we match each other like we compliment oh so, so like y'all like yin and yang, yeah and then the yeah twins, yeah dream collab go.

Alethea:

My baby daddy, my baby daddy, that's my baby daddy. Yes, my baby daddy, that's my baby daddy. Okay, now we're gonna get A little gays. Let's do it Top or bottom.

The Twins:

Top. Well, so Okay, top or bottom Top.

Calvin:

Well, so okay, okay, okay. So we're both tops when we go meet people. But if I have a connection with you and we've known you for a very long time, we could be versed. But if I'm dating, for sure we're versed. But, if I'm meeting someone I don't know 2-2-2-L girl top, and you know why? Because people run their mouth, they run their mouth.

The Twins:

They'll be like oh I fuck they do.

Calvin:

Mind you, we're twins and we have a social media presence too, so I don't want people to be like, oh, I fuck that twin, sorry, sorry.

Alethea:

Do you know how many times I said fuck?

The Twins:

Okay, you did.

Calvin:

I don't want people to be like oh I, because people be messy, they really be messy. I be very careful. Who can have access to the behind? Because it's thick, yeah, it's yummy.

Alethea:

Yeah, it's exclusive, it's exclusive, it's exclusive, yum yum.

Calvin:

So I'll say top, reverse Rihanna orverse Rihanna or Beyonce Rihanna.

The Twins:

I just knew that what she's a Pisces too, she's a.

Calvin:

Pisces too, and she have Addie and she connects with her audience. Rihanna is exactly who we. I feel like we transpire because she is not she's big, but she still connects with creators audience. Rihanna is exactly who we. I feel like we transpire because she is not she's big, but she still connects with creators and stuff. Yeah.

Alethea:

Yes, yes. That's why I love her, yes.

Calvin:

We're going to meet her one day, though I already know that Child listen, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready.

Alethea:

I'm going to meet y'all and we're going to just oh girl, that's a given.

Calvin:

That's a given. What is?

Alethea:

your go-to hype song before performing.

Calvin:

Oh, I can't answer that one. Oh yeah, that one's not fast. How do?

The Twins:

we have one. How do?

Calvin:

we have one, oh, actually, okay, I have a life. I would say De Niro.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, de Niro, de Niro, our song it's unreleased, the one that you heard.

Calvin:

We listen to our music way too much.

The Twins:

Yeah, that's what.

Calvin:

I'm saying we listen to our songs more than I listen to anyone else no, but that's what you're supposed to do.

Alethea:

Bitch, when I'm getting ready bitch, I'll be like ain't nobody so yes, yes, because, because bitch ain't nobody better than me, cocky oh girl, you ain't.

Calvin:

And you said that with pure confidence. That's what I like.

Alethea:

No, but that's how I feel. You may do things different than me, but just because you do it differently than me doesn't make it better, so nobody's better than me.

Calvin:

Duh Clock. That T the fuck Period. No one can beat you. So, yeah, no one can be better than you because, bitch, I am God's favorite, like what you're welcome, so what?

Alethea:

what is next for the Spellman twins? Tell us all things, spellman twins, and where can we find you?

Calvin:

So you can find us on every platform TikTok, instagram, youtube. Spellman twins with a Z, as you can see right there. What's next for us? I think we can both say this fashion. We're really trying to get into the fashion, because our next album that we're going to be working on not this one, but the next one is definitely going to have to give the look We've been trying to dabble into fashion. But we have so much going on Fashion performing. We have a show June 14th, where June 14th when.

Calvin:

Sacramento Pride, it's about to be lit. Sac Pride, sac Pride. And then we have one in LA Pride. Yeah, and then.

Alethea:

Wait, that's at the end of May.

Calvin:

No June, no June. June 14th is Sacramento yeah.

Alethea:

When is LA Pride?

Calvin:

It should be the 21st. But, it's not going to be at LA Pride, it's going to be at a different event, but it's going to be lit, though. We performed at another event the same people and they wanted us to come back Because they said we were lit, so they wanted us back.

Alethea:

And June 14th we going to talk yeah.

Calvin:

So also, what's next? We have another single. We're gonna drop De Niro. I don't know exactly yet, but I want to say it may be in the May or early June, because we gotta still get the music video prepared. The cover art is done, though, and then we have our album. That's gonna drop as well, hopefully on May, may 9th, oh.

Alethea:

Yum Yum music video is dropping. Yeah, yeah, yeah. May 9th Yum Yum music video. And if you follow their Instagram and saw these visuals of all this chocolate just slathered on top of each other, I want to watch this video so bad.

Calvin:

Oh, you're going to gag. It was so bad.

Alethea:

So I like to end every segment with what I call pass it on. So my last guest was Teontae Loves, and his message was don't worry about what anybody says, just be yourself. Just just be you 24 7, just be you. What would your pass it on message be? It could be something, something that you heard a like. What would that message be?

Calvin:

I got one. So I say, because I don't know why I like this one Don't be the moment, be the movement. And I guess anything in life it doesn't have to be music related. Be the movement, not the moment, because you want to be remembered for you. So don't be the moment. Don't be a gimmick. Don't be the moment. Be the movement. Be the people people want to look up to and follow.

Calvin:

And that goes for your cousins. Be the movement for them, I say. For me, I would say always, don't give a fuck. This is on a rebellious standpoint. I'm very rebellious. I will say I'm the person that's gonna tell you don't, let nobody tell you what the fuck you can't do. At the end of the day, you only live one motherfucking life and you don't want to be 60, 70 and be like, oh, I wish I should have done this. I wish I could have been this. Because how many times god forbid how many times we heard that, yeah, and I try to do everything so I don't have to worry, I came, came out very early, so I don't have to worry, and be 70 and be like, oh, I wish I came out. No, do everything you want to do now. All your passions, all your goals, all your desires. Fuck what anybody got to say. Be your motherfucking self and be unapologetically. You bitch, because when you're in that grave, you're going to be in the grave by yourself, no-transcript. So keep living that truth of yours, period.

Alethea:

Wait, Wait. So so let me tell you that if you see me using this in my videos, I'm going to tag you because of this Period.

The Twins:

You're going to do that at the end too In the video. You got to go Period.

Calvin:

Period. This was amazing. I really thank you for this. I really appreciate it.

Alethea:

Oh, my God, thank y'all. Y'all are living proof that resilience, joy, authenticity will always win. Yes, y'all didn't just survive, y'all thrived. Ooh, I love that Y'all thrived. And you are still here. Yes, you are still here. Through everything, everything that you've overcome, every obstacle that you had to face, everybody that left you behind, that thought that you were going to break. You're still here, yes, and that is not a reason to be proud of you. I don't know what is.

Calvin:

I love you so much. I'm so glad We've been meeting such great people. I feel like and I think God is saying something and we've been meeting the correct people and they're bringing the right people in our paths and we want to really, really thank you. We were talking about this. You're like, oh, she's so great. I cannot wait until we meet you.

Alethea:

That has always been my prayer to send the right, because I just don't take anybody on my podcast like I have to, like I have to kind of know a little bit about you, yeah, and I, when I tell you I love y'all and let me be, I know that I am not first, but I want to tell you out of my mouth I am extremely, extremely proud of you, uh-huh.

The Twins:

Don't make me cry Hold on no no.

Alethea:

You know, people don't say that, so no, but I'm telling you this I am proud of you and everything that you have overcome, and I know that. I know that I know that there will be a time that everybody is going to know your name. There will be a time where Calvin and Clinton are going to be at award shows. There will be a time that you are going to be on national TV and they're going to be Spellman twins. Spellman twins, Spellman twins that's the name that you're going to hear, because that's what you you are moving mountains right now no, I appreciate that you are moving, I was, about to cry when I'm, when my nose starts.

Alethea:

No, like I just I just really needed to tell you this from my heart for people not only me, but people like my son that need people like you to be role models, because that's what you are, thank you. You are role models, so I love this for you, and anytime that you want to come back, you are more than welcome to sit in the passenger seat with me. Yes, okay.

Calvin:

Oh yes, we locked in. We're going to be more in the passenger seat.

The Twins:

We're going to be going to dinner.

Calvin:

Yeah, we got to go eat.

The Twins:

We got, we're going to.

Alethea:

Oh, do not go nowhere, because we gonna talk. Everybody listening, watching, choose you, choose you, cause there is nobody there ain't nobody do it better than you, ain't nobody do it better than you, you the best, you, you, you, the best, you the best, you the best, you the best, you the best, you the best. All right, remember that shit as you go out there and be great in they face and I'm going to need y'all to help me out, because if y'all follow me, then y'all know what I'm about to do y'all go out there and be great in their face and, as always, y'all have a good day on purpose here. You're welcome, period, you won't stop.
