From My Perspective
Tyrese's Heartbreak, OKC NBA CHAMPS And Durant to Houston
The OKC Thunder defeat the Indiana Pacers 103-91 in Game 7 to claim the 2025 NBA championship, though the game takes a devastating turn when Pacers star Tyrese Halliburton tears his Achilles just seven minutes in. Despite the Pacers' valiant effort, a turnover-filled third quarter and OKC's defensive dominance led by Chet Holmgren's rim protection sealed their fate in a Finals that will be remembered for what might have been.
• OKC captures their first NBA championship since relocating from Seattle, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander earning Finals MVP
• Tyrese Halliburton's Achilles tear comes after a hot start (3-4 from 3, 9 points in 7 minutes)
• The Pacers abandoned their signature ball movement in the third quarter, leading to costly turnovers
• Chet Holmgren finally delivered on his potential with 5-6 blocks in a defensive masterclass
• Kevin Durant's shocking trade to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dylan Brooks and the 10th pick shakes up the Western Conference
• The Eastern Conference appears wide open for next season with the Pacers losing Halliburton, Celtics potentially breaking up their team, and the Knicks still without a coach
• Cleveland and Orlando emerge as potential Eastern Conference favorites by default
• The Western Conference remains incredibly deep with at least 12 teams believing they can contend

Welcome back to another episode of. From my Perspective, it is a somber day, as the NBA season has officially come to an end come to an end as game seven of the NBA finals has concluded.
Speaker 1:The OKC Thunder is your 2025 NBA champion. It's technically not their first NBA championship, but I'm going to call it their first NBA championship, because we all know a team in Seattle is coming and going to take their trophy back, but they win 103 to91. This was a tough one. I'm not even a Pacers fan and I know I'm going to lose some sleep tonight, as I was looking forward to a thrilling Game 7, and it looks like we was heading to that.
Speaker 1:Tyrese Halliburton started out 3-4 from 3, and the worst-case scenario happened he tore his Achilles about seven minutes into the game. The Pacers they fought, they fought hard, but that third quarter they could not hold on to the ball. A bunch of turnovers We'll get into a little bit more, but that third quarter was what did it for them. They tried to fight back to the end. They just couldn't do it. But the OKC Thunder is your 2025 NBA champions. Congratulations to them. This game, this one, this ship, may have a small asterisk on it from my perspective, not as big as I want to say the Toronto Raptors asterisk on their championship or the 2020 bubble championship by the Los Angeles Lakers, but this one's going to have a small one. I got to pass it to Q. I didn't ask you how you're doing, because I know you're not doing that well, but I got to pass it to the Indiana Pacers fan himself and how he's feeling after this emotional rollercoaster of a game seven.
Speaker 2:Oh, man, I want to do what it is. You already know the question. You're putting the spell. Oh, how am I doing? I'm all right, you know my.
Speaker 2:You know it's kind of I ain't going to lie it's kind of hard to talk right now. Right Because, like you said, the team falls very hard All year and you know, ever since basically January, when we was a whole team, we've been killing it. We had the best record, along with OKC, okc. But yeah, man, right now it's hard, bro, you know like it's hard, tyrese going down, especially because Tyrese started about five, nine points in seven minutes. Tyrese, we was ready, we was about to get one of those Tyrese games, like Tyrese was going to get busy and then for not only for him to go down with the calf we already know it's the Achilles. I was sitting next to my cousin, javon Shout out, Javon. He said that's the Achilles. It's because everybody reacts the same way. Every athlete you ever see go down with that Achilles, they react the same exact way. That's how we could have said it. I said, yeah, you're right. Like that's how you say it, I go. Look, I go next year too that's.
Speaker 1:That was my thought. That's like, because we talked about it a couple episodes ago, the East is pretty much the Pacers conference now. Because we talked about it a couple episodes ago, the East is pretty much the Pacers' conference Now. I don't know what's going on in the East, but it's crazy. But before we do a little bit more deep dive into that, what was your thoughts on the game? Obviously, tyrese got hurt. That third quarter was rough because to me I'm watching the third quarter y'all turning the ball over a lot, not turning it. Okay, so he wasn't turning the ball over. I felt like the Pacers was playing too much one-on-one ball, specifically with TJ McConnell. I understand he's hot, he was the spark plug, but it seems like they were just letting TJ McConnell play out there and do what he does and the ball wasn't flowing. There was literally no ball movement in that third quarter, which is part of the reason why y'all turned it over. And TJ is a good player, but he's not the player you just sit back and watch play.
Speaker 2:From my perspective, you took when we started about doing this five. My main takeaway was we got out of our offense in the third quarter and that's why we lost this game, because we let TJ McConnell start playing hero ball. Now TJ put up 14 points in the third quarter. That's not our game. And then we start turning the bat in the third quarter. That's not our game. Then we started turning the bat in the first turn. We turned the ball over too much because everybody just got dependent on McConnell. You see, in the fourth quarter, when McConnell sat down, we started getting back into our offense. The 22-point lead got cut down to the 12th Got cut down to 10. Once we got in our offense, the 22-point lead got cut down to 12, got cut down to 10. The lead kept. Once we got in our offense, the lead got cut. But the third quarter third quarter shot us in the foot and for as great as TJ McComber did, it just threw our– it threw our offense off. Now TJ balled out, tj balled out.
Speaker 1:He was not against for the MVP.
Speaker 2:When he didn't score, though, we looked out of suits, yep.
Speaker 1:So that's what it brought out to me, because so I gotta ask you I know you might be a little bit biased, since you are a Pacers fan I did mention that this ring will have a small asterisk on it, again not as big as the Toronto Raptors ring, not as big as the Lakers bubble ring, but do you think this ring will have a little small ashes on it due to Tyrese tearing his Achilles, especially after his hot start?
Speaker 2:Truthfully, I think your NBA common NBA fans would know that OKC was the favorite to begin with. Yeah, true, so everybody's just going to assume OKC was going to win it anyway. I don't even want to be that dude. That'll be like Tyrese didn't get hurt, we're going to win. I don't want to be that dude.
Speaker 1:Yeah, because that's what I was thinking, because it's not guaranteed. Now I put a big ashes on that Toronto Raptors ring because Klay Thompson and KD got her that Warriors team. There's only one team that was constructed that would beat that team and that is the 96-97 Bulls.
Speaker 1:from my perspective, that was the only team that was ever constructed that could have beat that team healthy. Outside of that, that was the best team that basketball has seen. But the Raptors got lucky. Kole Thompson got hurt, kevin Durant got hurt and they got a ring. Congratulations to them. But that ring has a huge ashes. For me, this one is similar, but it's not no guarantee. I don't think that is guaranteed like the Golden State Warriors was.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no, that Golden State team. You wouldn't beat that. No, all the people're going to stay team. You wouldn't be. No, all the people that's going to compete, like you said, shaq and Kobe, maybe the Bulls, maybe Kareem and Magic you know that was it. You know what I'm saying. Maybe them 17 teams with Larry Bird? It's possible, but you know it ain't like it. This ain't the same situation because, okay, okc was favorite. Their defense was being compared to those Bulls teams, so it's not going to make a difference. That being said, I do feel like Tyrese is healthy. I'm going to say it once, I got to say it once because that's how I feel. I feel like Tyrese is healthy Because Tyrese was on those. Tyrese scored 20 points. We win games. He already had that.
Speaker 1:Yeah, nah, he was halfway there, yeah, but we do got to give a congratulations to OKC and Shea for winning the MVP. Shea has put together one hell of a resume, especially this season, regular season, mvp finals, mvp. Not too many players have done it. I believe LeBron and Larry Bird and Kareem have done that. I think that's it. And obviously Jordan is there. I was going to say you know Jordan.
Speaker 1:Only a handful of guys have done that, but you got to give a shout out to them Again. Once again, I'm going to see this as OKC's first ring. Obviously they got that supersonic ring, but they ain't going to have it much longer. We all know that. But we got to talk about the East. We'll talk about the West in a second, because they have some movement as well, but we got to talk about the East. Who you got coming out the East next year, man, like Pacers? Tyrese is not playing next year, obviously, so we don't expect them to do too much. Boston Celtics not only is Jason Tatum not playing next year, they're playing on breaking that team up. The Philadelphia 76ers we not holding out hope for them they can barely stay healthy anyways. And the Cleveland Cavaliers y'all got to show us something for us to believe in, y'all. Only other team left is the New York Knicks, and they looking for a new coach.
Speaker 2:Oh, what are we doing? New York, new York, if you a New York fan right now looking at Tyrese, get hurt, you got to be the most upset people in the world right now, more than a, well, not more than the Pacers, but right up in the Pacers because of the fact y'all was in the conference finals. If Borrow's had to follow the different way, y'all could have been in this situation, but y'all fired y'all coach. The draft is next week. New York still don't have a coach. Hell, they still let her call on other teams about their coach.
Speaker 1:Draft is in a couple days, not even next week, that's right, it's Wednesday.
Speaker 2:I'm tripping. Yeah, you're right, the draft is. First round is Wednesday, second round is Thursday. How you going into the draft without a coach? You don't know who your coach is. How you drafting a player or potentially drafting a player and potentially drafting a player, and you don't know the scheme of the coach that you're going to get? No, when Tom Tipperdine got fired, I just assumed it was Mike Malone, but then they called every NBA team and hollered at their coach Only two teams they ain't called is two teams in the final. But to answer your question, who's coming out the East? I don't know. I don't know. Cleveland, possibly, maybe.
Speaker 1:Cleveland has the best chance. But, like I said, y'all got to show us something. Maybe I've had two good seasons and flamed out in the playoffs. Cleveland should see this as an opportunity because the East is so wide open. The big dog of the Celtics they done for the team that me and you felt like this is going to be their conference for at least the next couple years. The Pacers they just lost their star player, so they done for at least the season. We don't we're not worried about the Sixers. I'm sorry't we not worried about the Sixers? I'm sorry, I'm not worried about the Sixers.
Speaker 2:Well, I ain't going to say the Pacers is done.
Speaker 1:I don't say they come out the East.
Speaker 2:The Pacers. Not being done is based off of what Mather developed into over the offseason. Okay, and then Milwaukee you got Giannis, and then it's like, okay, you got to figure out what else you're going to do because Brooke Lopez is free. Are you going to repay Brooke Lopez just to be young? At first it was are you going to repay Brooke Lopez to finish fourth or fifth in the East, but now you honestly can finish second?
Speaker 1:And Dave's out too. So that's a, I mean.
Speaker 2:True, but Giannis is Giannis, you know what I mean. Like they still going to be able to do their thing. So, oh, I guess you have to say Cleveland by default, orlando you said who. Orlando.
Speaker 1:I was about to. I thought you said Orlando. But yeah, I was thinking Orlando.
Speaker 2:They just got a rebrand you know, dale Wise, that's why you see I leave, I was like what I thought.
Speaker 1:You said Orlando, but yeah, I like the Orlando thing because they got to rebrand Pablo. If he keeps on developing like he should Now that I'm thinking about it because we did the whole stand pack, make a move conversation with Orlando. If you're Orlando, you might need to make that move. You might need to A Milwaukee, which I won't.
Speaker 2:But I wouldn't though, because, simple fact, there's a bank trip, stay time allowed with Pablo and Fonz Barber, okay, but you know, don't blow it, don't go all the way in for Giannis, because, especially again, the East is wide open. All you got to do is beat Cleveland at this point.
Speaker 1:So what if you don't go auto in but you go out and get DeMar DeRozan? I'm hearing he might be on the trade block, maybe a DeAndre Aydin, or I feel like you got to make a move, to take another step.
Speaker 2:I wouldn't mind DeAndre Aydin. I want DeAndre Aydin to get out of court Because people are acting like DeAndre Aydin is a bull. Yes, he does do a lot of stuff that you make you look like bro, like, come on, bro, you shouldn't play like that. But get him in Orlando, get him around some winners, get him in a completely different situation. I think DeAndre Ayton would be a great pickup, because they need a solid center on top of Pablo and Franz. And then you got Desmond Bain and Suggs.
Speaker 1:You know Suggs is going to play defense and he's going to run offense, you got to have teams scoring less than 90 down there.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so now I would love to see Aiden Orlando or a solid center in Orlando, as long as the name outstarts. Who's now free agent?
Speaker 1:Yeah, so we'll see what's going on in the East. The East is, ooh them, achilles man.
Speaker 2:They got to wear a hot top. I was going to say that's the conversation we need to have. Is the Achilles turn is happening a?
Speaker 1:lot more frequently it's happening like it's ACL Today it never happened. I don't know. I don't know what's going on. Y'all need to wear some high tops, or some. I'm about to do some calf raises tonight.
Speaker 2:I wonder what the correlation is. I wonder, is it because a lot of elderly people say it's because these athletes only focus on one sport from the time they like in middle school? So your body, your other muscles don't get a workout. So I wonder if that has something to do with it.
Speaker 1:I don't know, there needs to be a study for it, but they're going to have to figure something out, because if you're an athletic trainer for an NBA roster, calf races every day or something. Because we got to figure something out, because this can't keep happening. This can't keep happening. But we did have a bombshell, the drop early today. People was describing it. This is basically like a post-credits scene of a Marvel series KD is going to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green and a 10th round pick. It was another player in that as well.
Speaker 2:Dylan.
Speaker 1:Brooks Dylan Brooks Dylan. Brooks Jalen Green in the 10th overall pick. Does this move you?
Speaker 2:I mean, don't he play the same position as Jafari Smith and all the dudes? Oh, you're Kevin Durant, what did you call it? I don't understand why you get Jalen Green if you're a Sooners. You already got Bill, who nobody won't. Nobody won't take the Bill contract. You already got Bill and you got Devin Booker. You got Grayson Allen. You got nothing but shooting balls. If I'm Houston, give me Jabari, give me Easton. I forgot how to say that. Give me them two dudes and maybe Reed Shepard at the G League. Y'all don't want to play him up here and y'all can keep him because that makes more sense. Of course you got to take Dylan Brooks because you know he don't want to make the money, but it's a bunch of the same. Both teams got a bunch of people that started in the same position.
Speaker 1:So I'm hearing this ain't moving, you two with.
Speaker 2:And then you only got one first-round draft pick. I understand I'm not most people over here comparing the Desmond Bain trade to the Kevin Durant trade. Memphis got four first-round draft picks because they looked at the KCP contract as a. We're doing y'all favor for taking this contract because he ain't hitting nothing, he ain't hitting the side of the barn. You get what I'm saying. So that's why they got four first-round draft picks. I'm not complaining to that, but you should at least came back with two. I mean, that's KD Bro, hell, luke only got one first-round draft pick too. They should have at least had two first-round draft picks. I would have, like I said, I would have took Jabari and East, and then you got Shaboom too, who basically plays power forward as well.
Speaker 1:He's Then you got Shaboom too, who basically plays power forward as well. Yeah, he's a point forward type player.
Speaker 2:I'm trying to figure out what the hell Houston is doing and what the hell Phoenix is doing.
Speaker 1:Yeah, phoenix, I don't know what they're doing Houston. I mean, they just got KD. I understand going after KD if you're Houston, but KD I don't think he's the player that you necessarily need Like he's a tremendous talent. I feel like they needed a veteran leader. Kd. He's a veteran, but he's not the leader that you. He's not a leader, he's somebody. He's just going to show up, hoop, go home. He's not the type of leader that you probably want Now. He people you might follow by example of that type of leader, but he's not the vocal leader. He's just there to hoop and go home. I feel like the Houston Rockets is a young team. They needed that veteran leader that's going to be vocal to put them over the edge.
Speaker 1:You guys was the second seed in the West. The West is tough and now I do understand that between the second seed and the sixth seed it was like a game and a half difference, but you still was the second seed. So we will see how that works out, but it's not moving me. Honestly, I feel like they're not going to get better from this. I feel like they're going to stay the same. They're going to be anywhere between the second and fifth seed. They're going to stay out of the play-in, I believe. But the West is actually so deep Like it's the exact opposite of the East. The East we don't know who's going to win it because we don't know who's going to step up. The West is we don't know who's going to win it because there's so many options.
Speaker 1:Ok, so he could come back. Denver ain't going away anytime soon. San Antonio they're looking like they might make a move. Obviously, you got Houston. Now the Lakers they're out there. They still got Luka. They still got LeBron. Clippers they're one of them teams that they're good. They usually just don't show up in the playoffs, but they'll be good in the regular season and then we'll see what happens with the Grizzlies. New Orleans if they can figure it out with Zion, they could make some noise. There's a lot that's going on in the West. I don't know who's going to come out the West, but by default you just got to say OKC.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I feel like you got to give OKC the nod because they had the best record this year. They did just win a championship. Man, what up. They did just win a championship. So you got to give them the props that you assume that they're going to run it back. I give them the props that you assume that they're going to run it back. I am interested to see what OKC does because, in fact, they got all these first-round draft picks and at some point are you going to pay Jalen Williams?
Speaker 1:in debt, that second Abram coming for them, boy, like the Grand Reaper.
Speaker 2:They going to have to make the decision. You know what I'm saying. Shout out to Chad, because you know, like I said, I talked about turnovers. I talked about we got out of our offense with GJ McConnell in the third quarter. But let's be real, man. Okc put it with an onus because Chet showed up in this game. If Chet didn't, show up.
Speaker 1:He was a good rim protector. He had about like five, six blocks in this game.
Speaker 2:Yeah, if Chet didn't show up in this game, we still would have had a chance to win this game. But Chet actually showed the promise that everybody thinks he's going to be in this game, because his previous two games, you know, he didn't have it in. But yeah, like I said, shout out to OKC. They won, whatever, whatever.
Speaker 1:You know what I'm saying? You're just going to give OKC. So outside OKC and Denver, because I feel like Denver they have another team that they almost guaranteed, and I didn't even mention Minnesota. That's another team in the West West's. So damn deep.
Speaker 2:The West got 12 teams that honestly think they have the potential to win the championship next year. Yep. Only teams that don't is Portland, utah and New Orleans. Yep. Everybody else in the West. Oh sorry, 12 teams, because I forgot about Phoenix. Phoenix, don't let they go with it.
Speaker 1:And I'm going to disagree with you. They probably don't think they can win a championship, but there's been enough good things out of New Orleans that they feel like they could make some noise. Their issue is can Zion stay healthy?
Speaker 2:Stay healthy. The boy got a lawsuit right now. Forget, if he can stay healthy, if he can keep in his pants, that's what we need to worry about with Zion. If he can keep his dangle thing in his pants and stop chasing these big booty Instagram models, that's what New Orleans, the Pelicans, need to worry about. The boy can't Look, let's call him space. The boy can't Look, let's call him Spade, spade. He can't stay healthy, he don't work out like he should, but he shakes a big booty Instagram model. Zion, you can't be a triple naked. You said it, not me. Pick one, pick one. That's all I'm saying. Pick one, pick one.
Speaker 1:You said it, not me, but, and also I mean gotta give respect where respect is. Golden State Warriors is still out there. It's the West God League. This is why you, like you said, giannis, you might wanna stay in the East if you, giannis, stay in Milwaukee, just tell them go get me.
Speaker 2:Just go get me somebody, trey Calhoun, because we already seen that did not work. Just go get me somebody, I'll figure out the rest. That's all Giannis is saying Go get me somebody, I'll figure out the rest.
Speaker 1:I can do that. Yeah, if you're in the East, you just want to get to the West, get to the NBA Finals. And once you get to the NBA Finals, you got a chance. We saw what the Pacers people didn't think the Pacers had a chance they had a chance to win it all. So you just want to get to the NBA Finals and let the rest play out?
Speaker 2:New York, get a New York thing, y'all. This would be y'all next year.
Speaker 1:But y'all find y'all coach and y'all still don't got a coach. That's gonna do it for another episode, from our perspective, again like somber episode. As the NBA season has come to a close, we're gonna have to find a lot more to talk about. You know, obviously we got WWE next week, but outside of WWE we probably gotta talk a little bit more baseball. We gotta get prepared for NFL. We gotta get prepared for college football. We're going to have to figure some things out, but we will figure it out.
Speaker 2:We got WNBA. You said baseball. We don't know damn well, we ain't ready to talk about that. We said that last year.
Speaker 1:You probably won't hear much about it until the playoffs, not even going going cap. But we do got the WNBA. It's starting to get a little hot and heavy, especially with the Indiana Fevers they starting to get a little.
Speaker 2:Because people won't keep doing these little fouls. It's getting a little personal. It's getting a little personal. The Caleb Clark thing is getting a little wild.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's definitely getting crazy, but again, I'll do it for another episode of From Our Perspective. I'm your boy, deion. Please, like. Please subscribe to the podcast. Leave a comment about anything. You know who you think is going to come out the East next season? That's what you leave. Leave that in the comments section and let us know because, honestly, I don't know. Is it the Cavs or the Magic? I think that's the top two teams, but we will figure it out. Once again, I'm your boy, deion Q. Go ahead and take us home one more time to the NBA season.
Speaker 2:You ain't nothing bad, it's your boy. Mr Bell, aka say your name up on this pod Might not get you tomorrow. Shout out to my Indiana Pacers. You know what I'm saying A great season. I'm happy. We shocked a lot of people. People thought we was going to get swept by OKC. They thought we was going to be a gentleman's team. No, we took our opinions. We took them to game seven. Unfortunately, tyrese had the injury. Prayers and thoughts to Tyree. Shout out to OKC Congratulations. I am not going to be on SportsCenter or none of that for the next couple days because I do not want to hear that bunch of nonsense. But up and shout out to the Lakers. I hate it on Facebook Live, not even going. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1:I mean the.
Speaker 2:Pacers hate it on Facebook Live. I'm not even going to acknowledge it. We're going to keep it positive. But you already know the facts. It's your boy, mr Bill aka. Say your name up on the spot. Might not put you to mine. We're going to catch y'all on the next one.
