Super Bowl Letdown, All-Star Doubts
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We break down a flat Super Bowl, question the MVP choice, and track how injuries and conservative coaching swung the game. Then we pivot to NBA All-Star malaise, the 65-game rule, tanking fines, and why Seattle should reclaim the Supersonics.
• why the Super Bowl lacked drama
• the kicker case for MVP over a skill player
• injured QBs, shaky lines, and coaching to not lose
• Coach of the Year logic and Stafford’s MVP
• Hall of Fame locks vs short-peak debates
• All-Star Weekend fatigue and missing stars
• the 65‑game rule as accountability, possible 62 compromise
• three‑point contest favorites and dunk nostalgia
• Utah’s tanking tactics and light fines
• stronger anti‑tanking ideas, from pick penalties to win-based odds
• All‑Star USA vs World hopes
• Seattle and Vegas expansion and the Supersonics legacy
• college hoops heating up before March

I know it's the shortest month of the year, but still Black History Month. Give us our respect. And go ahead and support a black business and hit that link in the bio and buy you some merch. Please, and thank you. But again, thank you again for joining us for another episode of From My Perspective. I'm joined by the man, the myth, the legend himself, Captain Hader. How are you doing on this fine day?
SPEAKER_01:Man, what do what it is? You're another bastard show. Boy, Mr. Dale, aka aka say your name up on this.
SPEAKER_00:It's going good, man. Uh Super Bowl Sunday was cool. I was gonna say another word. It was cool, but uh I got a question for the NFL script writers. Did you not have a different script for this year's Super Bowl? Because it's the same thing as last year's Super Bowl. Defense dominated, the quarterback couldn't do nothing because the offensive line couldn't block a soul. Only difference is the Eagles actually scored touchdowns. The Seahawks, it took them a while. They got an end on a little bit late, but that was the only difference. It was a cool game. Seahawks defense. We said it on last week's pod. That's defense number one. The Patriots, y'all struggled against defense number five and defense number three the past couple weeks. Y'all really struggled against defense number one. So we caught it. Me and Q was a little nervous because the New Wing Patriots have done New Ling Patriots things in the past 25 years when they got into the Super Bowl. So we was a little nervous that the Patriots could pull it off. But ultimately, we were right. Pat us on the back. It was cool. I mean, it was over at halftime. Shout out to Bad Bunny. Didn't understand the words he said, but had my hips moving. But what was your thoughts on the Super Bowl?
SPEAKER_01:Bad Bunny, Bad Bunny had the vibes, and he had messages. You know what I'm saying? That's that's the most important thing. It's crazy that that's probably the most talked about part of the Super Bowl. Was the halftime show, even days later? Because the game kind of was that's what's up. You know what I mean? It was kind of like damn the Super Bowl, but think about it. Going into the Super Bowl, it didn't feel real Super Bowl ish. It didn't, there was no hype to it, there was no excitement to this Super Bowl. So then for the game to actually match that as well, it was it kind of makes sense. I don't know about you, right? But if we had to at the beginning of the season, the beginning of this NFL season, if you had to pick, let's say 10 matchups that you would expect to see in the Super Bowl, this was definitely not one of them. You probably would have got to like 25-28 amount of uh matchups you would have predicted before you got to this particular matchup. Then we get to this game, and then we think about the last time they played, it was you have the uh Malcolm Butler interception that's always gonna stick out in your memory. It had a memory. It was, you know what I'm saying? This game, what do you what do you remember for it? I honestly think too much from now, we're not gonna remember who the Super Bowl champion is.
SPEAKER_00:We're gonna forget and remember it's gonna be one of those who's the Super Bowl champion. That's right.
SPEAKER_01:I don't think we're gonna remember to the draft doing they be like, yo, yo, uh, your Super Bowl champions, see uh Seattle Seahawks. I really don't, and I ain't trying to, it's not like I'm poo-pooing Seattle's victory, and that's I'm not what I'm trying to do. I feel like I'm just being honest about the what you see from the actual game.
SPEAKER_00:It was such an anti-climatic ending to the season. It's like damn.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, for uh the amazing season that we had for the Super Bowl to be a a dud, uh for lack of a better word, a dud or lack uh oomph, it was kind of I don't want to say this, it was kind of disappointing. I don't I just hate to say it like that. And I also wanna say, real quick, they got the MVP wrong. No disrespect to Walker, yeah.
SPEAKER_00:But everybody knows the kicker shit got it. Yeah, they don't no respect for the kicker over there. I would have voted for the kicker. Well, it was offensive. I voted for the kicker when they scanned it. But I mean, they wanted to get into the skill play. They couldn't give it to Sam Darnold because he was honestly, Sam Darnold was playing awful most of that game. Last little bit, he showed up a little bit, but he was awful. Yeah, he was just awful. Like he missed some throws. If he was if Sam Darnold was on point, the game would have been over in the second quarter. Yeah. He missed JSN on a touchdown. The JSN would have still been running early, early in that game. And all you needed was two touchdowns. If you watch the game, all they needed was two touchdowns.
SPEAKER_01:That was it.
SPEAKER_00:That offensive line couldn't block me out there. Will Campbell, the first round pick for the um New York Patriots. I know you was hurt, but you was out there on that field and you looked off. You put some bad tape out there, man. So you got a long loss team ahead of you. That's another thing.
SPEAKER_01:Drake May, you could tell it was hurt.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:You you could tell going into that game. But you got honestly, if you think about it, if you go back to the AFC uh championship game, you can tell he was hurt.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:So it wasn't like he was gonna get better in two weeks. I think Dobbs is their backup. I think at some point, especially in that third quarter, you see Drake May ain't giving it to you, you go to Josh Dobbs and let him see what he can do. Because Josh Dobbs is uh, I can win your game.
SPEAKER_00:Especially the Patriots defense was playing great as well. They obviously they get that the floodgates opened up for him at the end. But the Patriots was in that game because they defense was helping them out. It was 12 to nothing, and you're like, Well, you you not out of the game. It's just 12-nothing. Then that's when the touchdown started to come. Once the touchdown started to come, it was over.
SPEAKER_01:They was not, they was not out of that game until mid what, damn near at the end of the third. Because even then, after they after the first touchdown, I was like, eh, New England gonna be able to, they might be able to, they might be able to figure this out. Because at the end, at the end of the game, especially after weather, especially the fourth quarter, Drake May store, it's like he figured out the defense.
SPEAKER_00:But I feel like the defense was more so playing, let's just not get nothing to be deep and cheap.
SPEAKER_01:True, it does change. But I also felt like variable, uh, you know, very big, you ain't got ain't got nothing to love to do all the things he did in Tennessee. But it felt like he was coaching the game, like he coached the AFC championship game. He was coaching it not to lose. Yeah, he wasn't coaching to win, he was coaching, and maybe it was maybe it was Josh McDaniels, the offensive coordinator that was calling plays that was, you know, kind of conservative. But I don't I don't feel like they was playing a win. But if you got a hurt quarterback, of course you you gonna play a more conservative route.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, so so yeah, it is what it is, but Super Bowl has come to an end before we put a full bowl on the NFL season. Uh Matthew Stafford, he won the MVP. We knew that. Uh the coach Mike Vrabel, your former coach for your team, he was the coach of the year. Was you okay with that? I know Mike uh coach McDonald for the Seahawks, he had a little something to say at the parades, like I'll rather have the Super Bowl trophy, which he got it. You okay with Mike Verble?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, it was three and fifty, three. I was gonna say three or fifteen. Three and fourteen the year before? Yeah. Uh three or four and four and thirteen, something like that.
SPEAKER_00:They just they just flipped their record with the four fourteen to four or fourteen and three and yeah, so it made sense for him to be, it made sense for him to be a coach of the year.
SPEAKER_01:Matthew Stafford, you know, high side being too, you know, we high side 2020, we got focused on the regular season, but I think the runner, the runner-up was not a thing. The runner-up was Drake May. Yeah, it was close too. It was a close vote. It don't look good right now that Drake May was a runner-up because of the way he did the past two games, but you gotta look at it as the regular season award. He did, he did, you know, transfer his, like you said, switch his team's records. So yeah, give him credit for that. But even then, I always thought, oh, let's make you staff.
SPEAKER_00:Yep, uh, comeback player of the year, Christian McCaffrey. He's an annual percent uh participant in that award. He's always hurting, he's always coming back doing great things.
SPEAKER_01:I'll just give right to say real quick. Is that fair for him to win that? Because you a star player, but you get hurt every year, so we gotta keep giving you credit for you getting hurt and coming being resilient every year. Yeah, I don't feel like maybe it's just Captain Hayden in me. I don't think Christian McCathy should have been nominated for that award.
SPEAKER_00:Think I think that's his second time winning it too, second or third time winning the awards.
SPEAKER_01:I don't think that's uh my bad. I didn't cut you off.
SPEAKER_00:Uh Jackson Smith and Jigabah offensive player of the year. Mel's Garrett, we knew that was coming to him, so congratulations. Uh we knew that we play off. Uh Tedderow McMillan, the Panther Rouse here, won the rookie of the year. I do want to shout out former Louisville quarterback Tyler Shuck. He won the uh NFL Fan Vote Rookie of the Year. I wish he would have got a little bit more love in this vote. But shout out to him regardless, but shout out to Tettero McMillan, NFL Rookie of the Year. Carson Swissinger, Browns linebacker. So the uh Browns had the defensive player of the year and defensive rookie of the year, and it was still garbage. But shout out to Carson Swissinger, he went to UCLA linebacker. One of my Cowboys to draft him, but they didn't. Uh next gym moment, uh Kelly Williams, Tell Mary Pass to DJ Moore, Bobby Wagner won Walter Payton Man of the Year. Congratulations to him. And my bad, I didn't we did not put this on the uh rundown, but the Hall of Fame class of 2026 was released as well. And those guys will be Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, which me and Q said they might as well go ahead and get his team size ready. Luke Keekly, which is a little bit of a surprising one, because he's one of those guys that had a short career but was really good in that short career. I think he only played eight seasons. Adam Vinateri, he's like the only the second or third kicker to ever be in the Hall of Fame. Me and Q also said there's why was he not in the Hall of Fame already? He already got a little black eye because of Bill Belichick, but I got Adam in there and uh Roger Craig. Uh um um forgot the word, but he was a running back back in the day. He was in the senior portion of the Hall of Fame voting, so yeah. Uh so congratulations to those guys. Um, protect the year. Like I said, Lyman got a vote, Lyman get a reward, Barry's Guard Joe uh Tourney. Apologize if I mispronounce your name, but wanted to give him that little shout out. But let's move back to the Hall of Fame. You okay with that list outside of no Bill Belichick? You okay with those lists of people?
SPEAKER_01:Well, Roger Curry got in, so okay, we understand why Bill Belichick didn't get in. We knew Larry, like you know what I mean, like we knew. It would have been what we doing here. So we knew he was we knew he was getting in. Drew Brees. So when we talked about it before, I think I'm being honest, I forget how many records Drew Brees actually holds on passing yards. Because Drew Brees used to just sling that thing, you know what I mean? And I it is the of course it was the office that he was in, but you do have to have some sort of skill to do all of that. I think I even forgot, yo, Drew Brees holds a lot of records. A lot of them when it comes to passing games, especially modern day passing games as much as they pass it now. So Larry Fritz Gerald, Drew Brees makes sense, Ross Greg makes sense.
SPEAKER_00:Luke. That's the tough one, man. I think it was that seven or eight seasons, that's it. Yeah, that's what I'm kinda like.
SPEAKER_01:Don't get me wrong, he was cold. He was cold, but you see how long uh Sterling Shark had to wait because he only had seven or eight seasons. I don't know. I just I'm not saying he's not deserving, I just feel like it was some names on that list that probably should have got in before him.
SPEAKER_02:Yep.
SPEAKER_01:Not saying he's not deserving, because I don't want to take nothing away from the Hall of Fame dog, Hall of Fame now, obviously the Hall of Fame career that he had. I just feel like it was some other names that should have gotten in before him.
SPEAKER_00:And honestly, that is kind of the problem of the NFL Hall of Fame. Like there's people that are deserving, but you only get so many people you got you can let in at a time, which understandable you want to keep it sacred, but at some point is are you a Hall of Fame or are you not a Hall of Famer? And you just need to maybe I don't know if they'll ever do it. Maybe one of you you just need to have a I probably they probably should do it, but like a 20 class, 20-person class, get some of these people out the way until you until you get to the point where it's like, okay, are you Hall of Fame or are you not a Hall of Famer? Because we we failed on putting some of these guys in that should have been in 30 years ago. Maybe you should just do that. And so you can get to the point now where are you yes or no, Hall of Fame or not, and you can just go on about it.
SPEAKER_01:I was gonna say you know what I'm saying. You I know you said 20, but they you can go up to eight. The next couple years, this year included, I probably should have had eight eight people class, eight-member classes.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. You know what I mean? So that's probably what they need to do, get a couple eight member class, eight people class out the way, get these people that should have been in there years ago that they're not, they've been waiting. Get some of these senior committee guys in there, and then you can get to the point and say, all right, now we to the point. Either you in or not. Yeah, not good enough, you're not in. Sorry.
SPEAKER_01:Of course, with that, you know, it's always gonna be more because in the fact it's gonna be more people retiring or whatever the case might be. But if you put seven, eight people in it for a couple years, and do get you to where it's kind of more of a level of a playing field. Because, like me and you we go back to we both think Chad Justin's a Halloween, but he ain't sniffing.
SPEAKER_00:I feel like, yes, he should at least be sniffing, at least make him to the semifinals.
SPEAKER_01:He's not sniffing, and then like Fred Taylor. I don't know. I honestly don't know if Fred Taylor is gonna get in, and then Darren Woodson as well. That's another one. Some people do, and uh you know, you it's your cowboys, you know what I'm saying? Whatever the case might be. But a lot of people say that Darren Woodson's not really a Hall of Famer, he just was the best defender on this great Dallas defense it during that era. So they was like, he gotta be the somebody gotta get in, he should be the representative. I don't know if that's the true argument or whatever the case may be, but he keep getting he keep getting close on the final list too, and he never get he never gets in.
SPEAKER_00:So but I do guarantee you in 2027, Bill Chuck, Bill Chick will be there. There's no he's not so that's one of the eight. Figure out the other seven, guys, just let y'all know. But that's a nice little bowl on the NFL season. We'll be moving on to 2027 as we get closer to the NFL draft. We'll talk a little bit about what happens at the underwear Olympics, even though we really don't care about it. But we go, we know some players are gonna get some hype, like Anthony Richardson, and we're gonna come on here and be like, it's the underwear Olympics, guys. Relax. But that's the NFL season. We gotta go to the NBA season, and I gotta let you know, Q Mann. You know, we do the rundown. I was texting you the rundown, what's going on, and as I'm as I'm texting you the rundown, I'm thinking about what's going on in the NBA. We'll talk about, you know, the jazz and the tank fest in a little bit. And I was like, I know the All-Star Weekend is coming up, but is it this weekend or the next week? I did not know. I had to look up when the NBA All-Star Weekend was. It turns out it's this weekend, man. I I ain't know. I mean, I knew.
SPEAKER_01:I didn't really care, but I knew. I mean, especially why y'all y'all could have did this a completely different time. Maybe I should have pushed it. Maybe I should have pushed it to the week before the Super Bowl this year. Okay. Because this just a I don't know, but I think it's because it's just where the all-star game is now in general. No, nobody really cared about the all-star game. Nobody cared about the festivities. And I said it before, and I say it again. LeBron James killed the dunk contest. And not just him, people of that era. Dwayne Wade, Carmelo Anthony. Even though Carmelo's more of a scorer, not really a dunker, but he could. They killed, they killed, they killed that. Derek Rose.
SPEAKER_00:Y'all did you did you hear the story, Sarder? Did you hear the story Vince Carter said that uh they offered the NBA offered a meal for Vince Carter, Tracy McGurry, LeBron James, and Kobe Ryan to do the dunk contest, and Vince Carter was the only one that said yes. Makes sense.
SPEAKER_01:Makes sense because Kobe had already done it. Tracy, uh Tracy, he knows what Vince Carter could do. I I listened, I listened to their pod, and he was like, he was touching the top of the backboard, put his arms on the shoulder, and then come down and dunk it. I'm not, y'all want me to dunk with him? I get it, right? You know what I mean? But it would have helped save the dunk contest. Yeah, but even Kobe done it. Vince, of course, done it. Tracy never, Tracy like Carmelo, they not really dunkers, they can dunk and they can get up. But they was more so scores, but it would help the league too.
SPEAKER_00:They got the name. They got the name.
SPEAKER_01:They got the name. But hell, I'm always I always praise J LeBron. At least Jay LeBron went after it did a dunk contest. That's the highest level of star power that they have had in years. Since what the Dwight is the Dwight, or not Aaron Gordon and was after the White.
SPEAKER_00:Was Aaron Gordon a star? To me, Aaron Gordon and Zach Levine didn't become stars until after the dunk contest. That made them the star.
SPEAKER_01:Well, Aaron Gordon was the top pick, so that's why I said, but you're right. They names then become more popular because they was going back and forth in the dunk contest. You are right.
SPEAKER_00:And shit, that was 10 years ago, too. Damn. Yeah, yeah, right. Yeah. But uh yeah, even uh All-Star Weekend, you know, three-point contest. Uh Cooper Flag won't be playing in a roster game. He is hurt. A lot of these people is backing out because of injuries. Steph Curry, uh, Giannis, Lucas been iffy. SGA isn't in it. Um, I do got a question before you come before we start really talking about the All-Star Weekend festivities. No, the 65 minimum rule to get awards. It's getting a lot of talk about it because there's a lot of players. LeBron, I think he just hit the limit where he can't get no all in the season awards. SGA is close. I think Victor Womenyama can only uh miss like four or five more games. It it seems like it's starting to become a problem. Do you have a problem with it? Because you know, I'm just curious. It's it's 82 games. That's you're missing 17 games.
unknown:Okay.
SPEAKER_01:Let me ask you like this. If me and you, we work at the same company, right? And we have the opportunity to get hit incentives. But if we miss so many days, we don't hit that incentive, right? So if we if it if it if it works for us, why can't we work for the people that make the million dollars? I don't I think 60 grad games is realistic. That's that means you miss seven was 17 games. I don't think I don't think that's crazy. It ain't saying that you had to be out there for 82. They say you had to be out there for 75. 60 crack games. You can miss 17 games and still be in consideration. I think that's what I I feel like that's realistic. I don't think that's too high. I don't even play basketball. You know what I mean? I ain't trying to be a it I don't sound like a jerk, but y'all get paid to play basketball. So have to get those bonuses because a lot of them get to hit supermaxes if they get selected to certain teams or they get select uh certain awards. Play basketball. It's just like you gotta do your job.
SPEAKER_00:I agree with you 100%. If I was Adam Silver and y'all coming to me about, oh, 65 is too is too too uh high of a minimum, I'd be like, okay, do 62. You can miss 20 games. That's the lowest I'll go. And even did that about it.
SPEAKER_01:20 games, you miss 20 games of an 82 game season in the next year. Even that that sound when you say it like that, that sounds crazy. But that's the like you said, that's the lowest I'll be willing to go.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, so I'm like, that's whatever. Uh I saw a stat, they said if uh this rule was back in Jordan's era, the nineties, he would have every award still. He wouldn't miss out on a single award.
SPEAKER_01:It's not the same, it's not the same. And they they used to hit you. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like that It was a it's a little little battle up between Detroit and Charlotte. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:They used to do that on the regular.
SPEAKER_00:It's video of uh Kareem Wad Jamar giving somebody a two-piece.
SPEAKER_01:They used to fight all of the time. And they used to, and it used to be like now a pal Ford is like LeBron James or a Jason Tatum's or Powell Ford. You used to have dudes that was a little stalkier. They only job was to use their six fouls. Yep. They got paid, you know what I'm saying? Like a million dollars, maybe a little less, just to use their fouls.
SPEAKER_00:So use it, use their files, and if there was a scrap, you the first one off the bench.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, for as better as basketball, basketball as like a quality standpoint, is what by far better than the 90s. But there is some things that I wish current from the 90s, hell, even the early 2000s. Oh man, to now. I agree. Because Kobe wasn't missing games. Nope. Shaq before he got older wasn't missing games.
SPEAKER_00:So I agree. But uh let's uh back to the NBA All-Star Weekend. Let's start out with the three-point contest. Their participants, Devin Booker, Khan Kanipple, uh Tyrese Maxie, Donovan Mitchell, Jamal Murray, Bobby Porters, Norman Powell, and Damian Lillard. It's kind of crazy that there'd be some big names in the three-point contest. I don't know, but that's the marquee event, though. That's the marquee event. You're right. But uh yeah, Damian Lillard, a guy that hasn't played all season, coming off an Achilles injury, is in the three-point contest. Hey, shout out to Damian Lillard. And I'll honestly low-key forgot he plays with the trailblazers. I was like, why is that? I was like, why is that trailblazer logo by his name? I forgot. But how you feeling about the three-point contest? I mean, who you who you think is gonna show up?
SPEAKER_01:It mate. So for the storyline, you want it to be Dane. Storyline-wise, you want it to be Dane. Or even Bobby Portis, because it's like the big man out here shooting the threes. But if I had to beat somebody actually if I was putting money on it, it probably would be Donovan Mitchell. It would be Donovan Mitchell if I was putting money on it, but storyline-wise, I would it's I would rather it be Dane or even Bobby Portis.
SPEAKER_00:Yep. I agree. I like to I like to see Dane. Donovan Mitchell winning would be cool. Uh I think Devin Booker, or David Lillard is the best shooter. Devin Booker is the second best shooter, so I think Devin Booker might have a good chance. But it's a three-point contest. It's a different You think so? Devin Booker is more of an off-the-dribble type of guy. I don't see him as much of a spot up, but I think Devin Booker has a decent chance.
SPEAKER_01:Nah, I you say he's second after Dane. You think he's a better shooter than Donovan? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00:Ooh. Yeah, I think he's a better shooter than Donovan. Donovan's game is more so get to the ring. You're right. He is. I just think Donovan's a okay. I I I can I can give you Donovan's a better mid-range shooter.
SPEAKER_01:You might you might be right. Just from the I guess because I watch Cleveland more than I watch the first time. Especially because recently because recently, so it's white. Nah, but I be seeing do Donovan do some stuff, but if thinking about it, you probably are uh so next up is the NBA Dunc contest.
SPEAKER_00:Um, everybody that's listening, go ahead and get your Google machine out because you're going to need it to know who these players are. And I'm also going to put how many points these guys average in the season. What are these guys' name? You're a petty. Carter Bryant, you know who that guy is? Yeah, he came out. He came out, he uh Ricky from Arizona. Yeah, I watch a lot of Spurs basketball. So I'm like, damn, I don't really know. He averaged 3.4 points a game. Uh a name you might know, just because of them. Jackson Hayes, he plays for the Lakers. He averaged 6.7 points per game. I know Jackson Hayes a little bit.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, he just uh filled out his paperwork to be a dual citizen. He's gonna play for uh what's uh Solenia's uh national team.
SPEAKER_00:Oh challenge Jackson Hayes. Uh for the Miami Heat, Shad Johnson averaged 3.1 points a game. I ain't gonna lie. I've never heard of him. No, I don't watch the behavior, but yeah, I've never heard of him. Uh a guy you might heard of, but you heard of his father before him, really. Uh Jace Richardson. Son of Jason Richardson, Jace plays for the Orlando Magic. He averages 5.1 points a game. Uh, if you're going by legacy and what the DNA has, Jace Richardson should win it because Jason Richardson was that boy in the dark contest. But I don't know.
SPEAKER_01:I see Jace. I've seen Jason Richardson born in Michigan State, just to be completely honest. Uh I don't ever remember him. I don't feel like he's the high flyer that his daddy was. Yeah, I doubt he is, but his daddy was yeah. You see me. Hey, him and Vince, I'll pay to see that. Back in their hand, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00:Uh I think I'm gonna go call the bride. Yeah, so uh guys, you don't know, but like we just mentioned earlier, you can make a name for yourself. They have it for Aaron Gordon, it happened for Zach Levine, they became superstars after the 2026 10-year anniversary of that. It's a shame. That was the last good dunk contest, too. Uh-uh.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, but I I'm gonna go. Who's that Carter Bryant? Because Jackson Hayes, a center's don't win dunk contest. I'm glad the White Howard did. But Jackson Hayes is like an actual seven foot. He was six, what, nine, six, ten though? So it didn't look it ain't gonna, it it had more of an aesthetic, you know, you know what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_00:Uh uh hot take, that last dunk that he did where he just threw it in the room. Well, I don't think that was a dunk, he just threw that thing in the room, bro. I don't know. True, but he was up high enough to where uh it it felt like a dub. But you're right, it was not a dunk. All right, so we got to move on to a pressing issue in the NBA. It is a epidemic, and it has been the epidemic since the Philadelphia 76ers dubbed it trust the process. It wasn't trust the process, it was take for the best player available. And it's back in full force and even worse than it has been. Um some teams got found today, your Indiana Pacers and the Utah Jazz. We'll get it, we'll we'll get to the Indiana Pacers in a second, but I think the Utah Jazz have been public enemy number one, the face of NBA tanking this year. Because it's really it's real egregious, man. Because usually the tanking is we're gonna sit out star players, they got a little boo-boo, we're gonna sit them, and we're gonna try to win with player number 8 through 12. Knowing damn well player number 8 through 12 ain't that good enough to be on the NBA court for extended minutes. That's usually how tanking works. And it's been like that again since Trust the Process. The Jazz, they be in the Grease. They not only are they not sitting their best players like Laurie Marking, Jerry Jackson Jr., who they just got, and they just said, oh, he's uh he's out for the season. He ain't played this season. They also sitting their best players in the fourth quarter of close ball games. And then also, in close ball games, when you in the game, your team go on the 0-15 run. You are down, your team gets 15 points straight on them. And the coach refused to call a timeout. Just outright egregious in front of the whole world tanking. It's bad. Now, in their pests, they they've been saying they taking. We kind of know they're tanking a little bit. At least A little bit. At least in the front office, they're tanking. The basketball court, they're probably not thinking about taking it. But no, they set a couple players every now and then. But I feel like, and you're gonna get into a little bit more, because there's some fines, the Jazz got fined 500k, the Pacers got fined 100K. I feel like the Jazz has been so egregious that NBA is like, we gotta just find everybody that's doing egregious stuff. And I think that's why the Pacers just got that fine as well.
SPEAKER_01:Okay, so okay. Can I can I can I go off the point? Go ahead. Go ahead. I don't understand why. First off, why did it take this long for the Utah Jazz to get a get a fine? The Utah Larry Marketing missed seven games with the flu. Bro missed a month because he had the flu. I ain't seen an NBA player miss that much time. And I don't know how long it's for the flu. Most of the time they play through the flu, but they just the the Utah Jazz is just now getting a vibe. That don't make sense to me. Second thing, it's crazy that the Indiana places we got our fine the thing they pointing out against us is when we play the Utah Jazz. Also, now y'all won't pay attention. It's when they playing us, now you won't pay attention. Indiana, again, it's not my money, but I just feel like why are we getting fired? Utah should have got fired way more. And then also Washington, Washington trading for two dudes who ain't I don't even think Anthony Anthony Davis went to Washington to take a picture and then went back home. Who we talking about? Bro flew up here, took a picture, and went back home. He ain't he ain't gonna shoot up for the whole season. He ain't gonna shoot up for the whole season. Trey Young ain't gonna shoot up for the whole season. But you telling me that Indiana's the only team, you Indiana and Utah's the only team to get fired? Heck, are you are y'all watching this? Tanking is a tanking is a problem in NBA. Everybody knows it. Everybody knows it, and everybody see what Utah is doing. But you but uh Utah only got 500,000? Like you said, they they pulled their people out from the fourth quarter. Larry Mark was out for a month with the flu. And then Jerry, then you get you had these games where y'all y'all winning, and then y'all end up losing because y'all set y'all people. That's only$500,000 worth. Take them pick. That's what really needs to happen. Utah needs to lose their pick. It don't even, it don't need to be it don't need to be 20 30 uh first round draft picks this year. It needs to be 28 because Washington don't need one neither. And then Sacramento and Chicago, Chicago. At least they was trying at the beginning of the season. They just realized, you know what, it ain't worth it. They probably should have decided that two years ago. But at least Chicago finally got there. But at least they tried at the beginning of the season. Now they ain't gonna try. It's the the tank, they gotta fix the tanking, but I honestly don't know how you fix the tanking. I don't either. Because I heard some uh is it Tim Bonte?
SPEAKER_00:I heard about Regis's take this morning, too.
SPEAKER_01:Tim, uh I I've heard this take. I know what take you gotta go. But Boby, I've heard Bob Monty Jones thinking take before, and I kind of I'll let you get it off. Tim Bontips talked about like after all-star break, you change like the teams at the bottom tier. Instead of losses, you go off wins. So the better the wins that those teams have towards the end of the season, it helps, it betters their odds. I don't know how you figure that out, but they gotta do something.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, yeah. It's getting bad. And I don't even know the man's name. It was the first time I seen him on first take. I doubt he's coming back to first take.
SPEAKER_01:Oh no, then uh Dennis, uh Dennis, is it Dennis Guy? What is his name? Like light-skinned brother. Yeah, I listened. He he had a part about hip hop before I was listening to.
SPEAKER_00:The man said get rid of the NBA draft. He said get rid of the what? He said, let the rookies decide where they want to play. Like that's gonna, everybody gonna go to the same five teams.
SPEAKER_01:You know they do that in soccer, though. And it works just fine in the national soccer. Dennis Smith Jr. I guess the name. I think it's the name. It is, but I think they have the same name.
SPEAKER_00:Okay.
SPEAKER_01:I'm gonna it's gonna bother me. I'm gonna figure it out, but it's gonna go part. But it's I don't think they do it, but it's not that crazy of an idea. Because you gotta do something. If you can't tank to get the best player, you gonna have to pay to get the best player.
SPEAKER_00:We'll see. I I don't know what they're gonna do, but Adam Silver's gotta figure it out. He Adam Silver, he's been tasked, and some of it just happened on his watch was to fix this all-star game, and he's trying. We're gonna have a new format, it's gonna be the world vs. USA. We're gonna we're gonna see how serious they're gonna take it. I know KD, he's got a lot of questions as if the old heads are gonna take it seriously. His response was, why are you asking me? Ask if Luca and Jokers are gonna take it seriously because they be messing around in the games, too. So we're gonna see if anybody takes it seriously. I don't know. Um, are you gonna even watch the all-star fist of these queue?
SPEAKER_01:Um, it's actually Valentine's Day. So it's it's a possibility that depending on what time they're going on, I might be able to tune in for a little bit, probably. Um, the Sunday night game, I'm gonna be at the Louvre Women's Game, so no.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. I'm gonna probably catch the highlights. Uh I wouldn't even check the highlights if we didn't have this podcast, honestly. David Dennis Jr. David, David Dennis Jr. He had that take. I was like, oh, that's egregious. So maybe it's not as egregious as I think it is.
SPEAKER_01:If the it's it sounds crazy because we're used to it, but when you think about it, international hockey, it which is very successful. Do this every day. I mean, do this every year. You just offer the money to the better players, and the players decide where they want to go because the tanking system obviously is not working.
SPEAKER_00:It's not, they tried to fix it. It's they gotta do more tweak tinker. They gotta do more thinking. They tried to fix it and it got worse. Yep. Uh, but they're gonna have to another thing they're gonna fix because we're gonna looks like we might have an expansion draft here real, real soon. Um, Las Vegas and Seattle looks like they're gonna be a team. We knew it. Everybody and their mama knew it. Louisville, we would love to have one, but it's probably more than likely gonna be Las Vegas and Seattle. Uh, we talked about Las Vegas and possible names a couple podcasts ago, go and listen to that. Where we mostly talked about the Las Vegas Athletics, future Las Vegas Athletics, and then we talked about the NBA team. I got a question for you, Q, before we get up out of here. Seattle, they had a team back in the day called the Seattle Supersonics. They moved to the OKC. OKC said that they are willing to give Seattle back not only their name, but their history, especially now that OKC has a trophy in their trophy case. Do you, if you are whoever the owner will be for Seattle's basketball team, do you go back to the Seattle Supersonics or do you do something completely new? Supersonics.
SPEAKER_01:It makes too much sense. It just it makes too much sense. That's that's who y'all are. Don't try to don't try to reinvent the wheel.
SPEAKER_00:I agree. I hope they don't try to give us something some crap, Seattle Sandhawks or some crap. Give us supersonics. Keep the color scheme, get some fresh new jerseys. We're ready for it. That's it. Keep it simple. So, but yeah, uh, and then Las Vegas, we know who who knows what their name's gonna be. People saying Minnesota's gonna move to the east. I believe that's gonna be what it is, right? Minnesota moving to the east.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, but everybody, I just assumed it was Memphis, but the error when you listen to people talk, everybody assumes it's gonna be Minnesota. Yeah, I guess because we live where we live, but we we see Tennessee, right? There, so we assume that that's the East. But they say Minnesota's actually closer to the the other teams. That's what they say.
SPEAKER_00:But yeah, NBA season, uh, we always say that after all-star break, that's when the NBA season has really kicked in. College basketball season has kicked in. A bunch of freshmen scoring a bunch of points. Uh Michael Brown dropped 45 the other day. Um, again, this wasn't on the rundown, but there's been some issues with uh Darren uh Patterson with the missing of all these games. They're talking about shit, we even be paying these freshmen all this money to miss all of them games.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01:Because they bring so much attention to your team. Yeah, and let's be real it helps build the brand. Well, it helps continue the brand of like right speaking of Kansas, they have to continue the brand of Kansas, which let's be real, carries the Big 12, as far as the back's about. Yeah, as far as notoriety. No offense there. Well, Houston's there now, but you know what I'm saying, for the most part.
SPEAKER_00:Uh, but they want the undefeated team, the Arizona, Arizona Wildcats. Yes. Was the last undefeated team in the Power 4 team, I think. The last Miami of Ohio.
SPEAKER_01:Yep, Miami of Ohio.
SPEAKER_00:They're the last undefeated team now. So one more undefeated team left. Shout out to Kansas for knocking off Arizona. It's gonna be a good race. I'm looking forward to March Madness right around the corner. It's literally next month. Like at the end of this month, we're gonna be doing conference championship tournaments.
SPEAKER_01:Okay. Okay, right. We're gonna have to start getting the college basketball talk because it's that time.
