Speaker 1

Excited , excited to have you here . So welcome to the podcast JAWS and fences . We're excited to share with our listeners a little bit about yourself , your history and this legendary lead . Why don't you start off by telling us about your team name , specifically its origin story and , to be honest listeners , your team name has been the one I've been most interested . Yeah , I think I came up with this question specifically for your team , so why don't you share with the listeners where JAWS and fences originated from ?

Speaker 3

Sure , yeah , the name came about the second year in the league . I don't know if you Nick . You probably remember we used to play a little beer pong in the evenings after the draft .

Speaker 1

That's right .

Speaker 3

And for whatever reason , the beer pong really brought out the nastiness of us . I would say right .

Speaker 2

Yep .

Speaker 3

So you remember the OG legend draft Kings him and I weren't team playing beer pong , okay , and we're playing against . Hindered it , and possibly was it Superman yeah .

Speaker 1

No , no , no , because I was playing with Superman . I don't know who it was but it's tendered it .

Speaker 3

Yeah , so some big personalities , right , and I remember this was my second year in the league . I really didn't hang out with you guys much outside of draft day . Okay , hadn't built , you know , real relationships with anyone yet besides , maybe draft Kings , maybe diesel .

Speaker 1

Yep .

Speaker 3

But those games got pretty intense and quite competitive and I love tendered it .

Beer Pong Mishaps and League Memories

Speaker 3

He is a special guy and I love him very , very much , but I think it's fair to say tendered it can be , let's call him an acquired taste , okay .

Speaker 1

Yeah .

Speaker 3

Right , he can instigate with the best of them .

Speaker 1

He absolutely can .

Speaker 3

So he was giving me quite the hard time during the spear pong match and I kept talking to draft Kings . I really didn't know , tendered it at the time , you know , hey , man , get your boy to calm down a little bit . You know , like he's kind of in my face , you know , I'm not really appreciating this , and eventually I believe they ended up beating us and tendered it . Let me , you know , he , let me hear about it , you know . And he was in my face and and eventually I had enough , you know , and so I walked up to him . You know , we got , you know , nose to nose . I tapped his jaw and told him I was going to send it over the fence If he didn't shut up . And so it wasn't my best moment . You know , I do feel bad about that . I love tendered it , he's a great guy . But from that day on the team name has been Jaws and Fences .

Speaker 1

I love it . I think that is one of the most I mean . It goes down for me Like if I had to create a greatest moments in Sunday soldier history and I had to create my own top 12 , that's one of them before me .

Speaker 2

I mean , yeah , I wasn't even in the league at the time , but just like the backstory that everybody has behind their name , it might be the best one in the league , but so far that we've heard , like there's , it's just , yeah , it's the backstory to it over that fence .

Speaker 3

It was a classic moment . Joe's a tendered . It's a really good sport and , yeah , it's a great moment in the league history .

Speaker 1

Oh , big time , I think . I think that that same beer that was probably . I think that might have been our last beer pong tournament , because we not only had that we had a few walk offs . Yeah , and then it was the other . It was Mo's vet and Dizzle me , and Superman , there was a swipe of that .

Speaker 2

And there was . There was a . I've heard a couple of stories about the , about these beer pong games . Like I said , I wasn't in the league at the time , but yeah , it sounds like it got heated in .

Speaker 3

We may have voted that we needed to eliminate beer pong to keep the league together .

Speaker 2

All together .

Speaker 3

Yeah , we were all much younger , you know , maybe a little more aggressive . You know a lot of beers , you know it's a competitive game , but yeah , it was getting out of line .

Speaker 1

It was . It was . I mean I it's funny you say that , because I was just about to say that we should vote to bring it back .

Speaker 3

Well , you know , 15 years later , maybe , maybe it would be okay .

Speaker 1

My , my prevail . Oh , I love that story . All right , jaws and fences . Can you tell us when you joined this league , how it came about and the number of years you've been in it ?

Speaker 3

Yeah , for sure . This is another great story . I'll never forget the year , and I'll get to that here in a little bit , but I joined the league in 2011 . And at the time , draft kings had invited me over to Dizzle's house just to hang out , have some beers . Uh , dizzle was cooking some tri-tips and I was going to meet everyone for the first time and just hang out with the boys , right ? Well , a member of the league , no , showed . So last second , this will ask me if I played fantasy football . I said yeah , of course , but I'm not in any leagues this year . But if you need someone , I'll jump in . So I jumped in .

Speaker 3

Now you got to remember . I was completely unprepared . I was going over there to eat and have some beers , right , and I was in no other leagues that year , so I had done zero studying . Now , the reason I'll never forget it was 2011 is because my pit came around and I leaned on my boy at the time draft kings and whispered in his ear what's the deal with Manning's neck , is he good ? And he looks me dead in the eyes and he was being truthful . He's like oh , he's good bro . And so this is four time MVP at the time , manning , you know it may . I'm trying to remember . It was my first round pick , I think back in the day we , those quarterbacks , were going in the first round .

Speaker 3

Oh yeah , because points at that time Different scoring , yeah , maybe Los .

Speaker 2

I was just saying , was it still in Los and found a scoring system ?

Speaker 3

Right , right , mvp is , you know , automatic buy week for the playoffs . So , anyways , you know , off draft kings advice , I drafted Manning and the reason I'll never forget that was my first year in the league , because Manning didn't throw a single pass that year . So that's the year he missed with his neck injury . So that was 2011 . So I've been in the league 11 , 12 years now at this point , Okay , Was , was was that made in the last year with the Colts . I believe it was .

Speaker 2

I think he was right after that , because that's another MVP with the next year he threw for , you know , 50 , whatever touchdowns , 5000 something yards . And , yeah , he did it all the next year , because the next year , maybe the following year , a couple years after .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I believe so .

Speaker 2

That's some , that's some good advice , though , from for somebody .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I mean draft king is draft king for a reason .

Speaker 3

Yeah , he's had some legendary moments in the league himself . Yeah .

Speaker 1

It's draft king is draft king , it's it's . It's not about the finish of the season , it's about the finish of the , the draft . That's what's most of it Like . If you had an award , I mean , for which we'd we do draft grade and you would like win I think he wins like 90% of the time .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I remember when he was in the league , like every year , it never failed . You know the , the , the grade would come out and he was always an A , A plus and he was stoked and pumped and it just never , ever really resulted into any real results .

Speaker 1

I feel like he , it was always a A plus on on his app , not necessarily .

Speaker 3

Yeah , yeah , I mean legendary , that's my flex . I mean we'll never forget that . I think it was Emmanuel Sanders for like $42 .

Speaker 1

That that , speaking of top 12 moments of all time , that is one of those things for me that goes on . It was like 40 bucks , no one else like bid manning his first year and the first words that a draft king's mouth would yes , that's my flex .

Speaker 2

Yeah , that's something that I was even in the league for and I've you know , and I and I hear about it , you know , I know about it .

Speaker 1

Legendary moment Right .

Speaker 2

One of those , one of those times .

Speaker 1

So good , so so good . All right . So in our league you can either win a championship , a last place award or a Bazinga award . Which awards have you won , how many times ? For each and any stories that come with that ?

Speaker 3

Sure , this should be relatively easy . I didn't have to do much research on this one . So championships one that would be zero . In case you guys weren't aware of that . Bazinga awards one that would also be another zero .

Speaker 1

Hey , that's .

Speaker 3

I am proud of that one .

Speaker 2

That's , yeah , that's good to not have one .

Speaker 3

Last place trophies , that would also be zero . I mean another one you don't want .

Speaker 2

They're so good and they're some bad , you know .

Speaker 3

but what's crazy about it is in the history of the league . I don't think I've ever been nominated for the Bazinga award , I've never played in a championship game and , as far as I can remember , I've never played in the last place championship game .

Speaker 1

Oh , that's good .

Speaker 3

And you know my history . I just kind of fought around seventh place in mind my business right .

Speaker 2

That good old seventh place it's . It can't beat it .

Speaker 1

Someone has to be there . Someone's got to be Jeff Fisher right .

Speaker 3

It is what it is .

Speaker 1

There's nothing wrong with it at all , at all at all . Right , so , jaws , can you share with us ? Is there a moment for you , besides what we've talked about so far , that you know , a moment of memory or an event from from this league that kind of stands out above all , that you want to share with everybody out there ?

Speaker 3

Oh , nick , there's so many , as you know . I mean , I flash back to the early days of us . I don't know if you remember us all eating pizza in the grotto Midnight . Yeah , 12 of us packed in there . There was the the rattlesnake catch the skin , the video we put out on it .

Draft Day Meals and Poker Tournaments

Speaker 3

But one thing that really stands out is it involves Tenderditt . Tenderditt is known for his world-class draft day meals that he provides for everyone . I think we can all agree to that Absolutely .

Speaker 2

This is true , absolutely .

Speaker 3

So when Tenderditt is in town , he has random shipments show up to Dizzle's house all weekend . Right , They've been bottles of bourbon , expensive Japanese whiskey , and this one year there were two very large boxes . Dizzle comes in , he's like , well , what in the hell is this ? I don't know , man , they delivered it , right . Well , eventually Tenderditt walks in and Dizzle you know , hey , do you know what this is ? And you know he's like , oh , that's , that's the entree for for draft night dinner . Okay , cool , Do we need to get it in the cooler ? What do we need to do ?

Speaker 3

You know , he calmly goes over to the boxes I mean , I'm talking large boxes here , right and he cuts them open and he reaches in and he starts pulling out live lobsters . I mean just a classic moment , right , Above and beyond anything you would expect . So we , you know , we spent the next few hours prepping the lobsters for dinner that night . But just an amazing night or a moment , right , we all took pictures and we helped them prep . It was such a fun activity , it was great . Just pulling out just a live lobster Well , it's the last thing , I think , anyone expected to come out of the box , right ?

Speaker 2

Yeah , just like you said , so calmly , like it's no big deal .

Speaker 3

A dozen live lobsters , no big deal .

Speaker 1

That is hilarious . I love it Again . So many stories to choose from such a story past . So many hilarious moments , so many events , so many conflicts . Some events because of conflicts . That is great , awesome . Well , let's move on to our guest discussion . We're going to give Jaws and Fences a chance to you know offer behind the scenes . Look at the draft poker tournament that happens every year Friday night . It's something we all look forward to , so excited to allow Jaws and Fences to give you some insight as to what that is all about . All right , jaws and Fences , so you are known for these epic Friday night draft weekend poker tournaments . Can you please share with our listeners what all goes into these tournaments the planning , running the events , payouts , unruly players and some memorable moments .

Speaker 3

Yeah sure , netflix and chill . I mean early on in the league history , I think you can remember . You know we typically always played poker Yep , many times though it would come together last second . You know the draft is over , we're drinking beers , let's get the poker game going . And we scrambled to get it going right . We always managed , you know we threw some , some blinds together and we played a tournament . Well , a few years of that I went to Dizzle and you know I requested approval to become the poker director for the league . I felt like we needed one . You know it was a tough process . The interview process was not easy . I mean , you guys , I'm sure Never is , never is . But you know Dizzle was willing to give me a try . So from that moment I kind of took over the planning of the event and Friday night was just going to be poker night from that point forward . Now , early on , do you remember I would scramble all around town for everyone that I knew that had poker chips .

Speaker 1

I do remember this .

Speaker 3

We had like seven different sets of poker chips in play and you know , the green were valued at 25 , the black were 100 , but there were , there was many , many different chips in play . There were times where we ran out of chips , yep , and we would use like a dice or something and that was worth 100 K because we literally had no poker chips left in play .

Speaker 1

You got to start from somewhere .

Speaker 3

You do and but so that was an improvement . It was organized , you know it went relatively smoothly , but enough was enough . You know , people gave me a job to do and I needed to perform . So I made the investment , bought a 3000 count chipset , a couple , a couple poker tables and some chairs , Yep , and this thing really blew up . So originally you remember it was the 12 soldiers played poker . Yeah , at one point when we were holding it in Bakersfield , I want to say that tournament grew to 3040 players . Yeah , the house was packed full capacity .

Speaker 1

The Ragsdale estate when , when he had that , that the man cave , I mean , we were running , what was it ? Three tables .

Speaker 3

Was it maybe four ? Three in the man cave and there was an outside table .

Speaker 1

Oh , that's right , Because there was no more room yeah .

Speaker 3

Man cave .

Speaker 3

That man it was , it was big and I'm sure this it was the same for all you guys . But I would have friends come up to me throughout the year wanting to know if poker night was happening on draft weekend . Oh yeah , because after the tournament , if you got busted from the turn tournament , you hang around a little bit , you wait for that table to free up , and why do you do that ? That's all for this show today . I'm D-W . Catch the light video . Yes , sir , I think cash games Juicy , juicy , juicy cash games . Yeah , I mean , I think some people just busted out the tournament to get in the cash games . But so it's come a long ways . You know , two years ago we shifted the draft weekend or I should at this point , draft week right from California to Tennessee . So logistically , you know there were some issues there . Right , I can't exactly travel with 3000 poker chips and poker tables . Now we must give a big shout out to our commissioner . He has the reputation of being tight .

Speaker 1

Okay , I'm fair to say I've heard right .

Speaker 3

So I reached out to him and I expressed my concerns and I didn't have to push him too much and the next thing , you know , I get a picture of his credit card text text to me right , buy whatever you need to make this right . So you know me . We got poker tables , we got new poker chips , replica Bellagio poker chips , and I went all out .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I remember this because it was a group message with the three of us and I remember the credit card being sent and it was just it was on from there . I remember getting texts it was in a side text with you of like , hey , you think , you think we're good with this and of course yeah , of course Fire it . Let's go we need it Right I ?

Speaker 3

mean it was so good and I never had so much fun in my life than I did spending rags money .

Speaker 1

I mean I , I think at the end of the day it it penciled out to be a work charity event in the end , just just just to make the numbers work , of course .

Speaker 3

But it was trying to get JMFR to claim that somehow some way right .

Speaker 1

But you know what's funny is ? I mean , you know , even though this , this , you know we've done a destination draft , we're still not playing with our 12 . Like it's no , we've got plus ones , we've got locals that like come out , we had two full tables this year .

Speaker 3

We did , we did , and it's . It's really . It's a fun event . You know the majority of the crowd . They have their poker night shirt , whether that be some tropical theme shirt or a gambling theme , yep , and I think everyone really looks forward to it and has a fun time , and that's . That's all we're trying to do , right .

Speaker 1

Oh yeah , I mean , it's I for us . I mean , if we're talking about a golf tournament , you know poker , poker tournament , draft weekend , or how it's catered by tenor did those are those things that just stand out , that we all look forward to . They all have that thing that we all look forward to . I mean , like you said , we all get dressed up for it .

Speaker 3

Right .

Speaker 1

Right , just like we get dressed up for draft day , we all get dressed up for poker night , because it is a huge event that we look forward to each and every year .

Speaker 3

It's . It's really a good time that I think we all love . I think it's a good time to be able to play golf At this point . It runs pretty smoothly , you know , I think I think I know what everyone likes , what they're looking for in a tournament . The most critical part of it is probably making sure I have plenty of cash available . What makes a game go cash ? Yep , so when Jam afar wants to fire his seventh bullet into the tournament but he doesn't have any more cash on him , it's very easy for me to say shoot me a Venmo , here's your buy in , and that keeps the pot growing . It does so for anyone out there that wants to run a tournament or a juicy cash game . That's the most critical part is having funds available .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I would say you know one , one , one thing . It's you know a visual thing that that was great at the old rags delisade , if you remember , I think . I think there was a total of three screens , two TVs and a drop down screen , and what do we have running on those screens during the tournament ?

Speaker 3

Yeah , so we'll probably get into this in the top 12 countdown , got it , but we had the blinds and the payouts and the levels , the time remaining in the levels , we had it on , if I remember , three TV screens and I don't know what was that . A hundred and twenty inch projector , yes , just to keep things operating smoothly . Yep , no questions about you . Know what's the blind level ? How much time is left ?

Speaker 1

So yeah , it worked out well . I mean I've never in my life participated in a private poker tournament that was run at that level with . I mean you had software that was telling you where it was , at how much time was left . Is you know ? Is it time to shove because blinds are going up ?

Speaker 3

It was . It's the best . Now mistakes have been made on tournament night or poker night . I don't know if you guys remember the the the year . I thought it would be great to run a $20 rebuy tournament . So the thought process behind that was let's build a massive pot , yeah , with a $20 rebus , sure , just to show that we can do it . And we're all a bunch of DJs , right , yeah . But I'm also trying to play in this poker tournament and I would grab somewhere between three and five rebus and I was probably playing a hand every 10 minutes . I mean , I was sweating . I'm running back and forth , I'm running back and forth to the chips rebuy , rebuy , rebuy it was . It was crazy .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I do remember that it was almost like you were the the last place finisher grabbing beers for everybody , beer grabbing chips for everybody instead .

Speaker 3

Right , right , right yeah , and we actually had someone to do that that year , if I remember correctly . Would that be our , our commission , or diesel ?

Speaker 2

Right yeah On on poker night and draft day , I believe that's right .

Speaker 3

Epic moments I forgot about that , yeah .

Speaker 2

So I mean , you weren't the last place , as we've went over already . You weren't a last place finisher , but that's just kind of how the you know . It felt like running around the room grabbing , grabbing chips for everybody , grabbing rebus , grabbing money from people like yeah , and it's a lot to keep track of the money too . Who's paid , who hasn't Right 100% .

Speaker 3

So I mean I would get up , grab a rebuy for JMFR . Put it in front of them and I was playing a different table , before I could sit down in my chair he yelled rebuy again .

Speaker 1

Was that the year that you just kind of had cash just coming out of your pockets ? Yeah , it was a mess .

Speaker 3

So like I dedicate one of my pockets that night to the prize pool , right , yep , not getting anything mixed up , but it was a $20 rebuy , so everyone's giving me $20 bills all night . It was a mess , the accounting was a little sloppy , but we got it done . You know , it was a good night .

Speaker 1

So good , so good . I just , I just look forward to it every each , each and every year . You know , and I mean I'm sure , I mean I , I the pot has grown year after year , and I mean even even now that we're doing a destination draft and and , and and , and we're lack some of , like , the players , because the majority of us live here locally , you know , in Bakersfield . Um , the the pot still grows . I mean the pot . In our last draft it was juicy .

Speaker 3

Right , yeah , I mean considering it was two tables .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I mean shout out to JMFR for juicing that .

Speaker 3

Yeah , there was a few that juiced it . There always is right , you know and and you love to see it , you do , you do .

Speaker 1

I mean you pretty much are not going to count on Netflix and chill juicing that pot . Yeah , netflix and chill is plus one .

Speaker 3

They're not going to juice it , but shout out to your plus one . She finished , yeah .

Speaker 1

Yeah .

Speaker 3

She was a part of that chop this year yeah .

Speaker 1

Yeah , she was really excited . I mean she , she won a golf tour attorney .

Speaker 3

Right .

Speaker 1

She chopped , chopped and uh , she scored a touchdown .

Speaker 3

Yeah , you know she is like I blew the coverage on that one she could thank me for that she walked away from that trip .

Speaker 1

In her mind , she was a winner .

Speaker 3

I was going to sack you on that play .

Speaker 1

Oh , my gosh , my gosh In any other insight to the poker tournaments that you wish to share . Before we jump into our next segment , I think that's it .

Speaker 3

You know , it's a really fun event . Everyone has a good time . I'd like to see old man flash participate at some point , but I understand he's just not there yet . He's not comfortable . Hopefully we can get him involved at some

Counting Down Top Poker Moments

Speaker 3

point .

Speaker 1

I mean involved in , I mean playing fantasy football poker .

Speaker 3

There's , there's so many levels , maybe all the above .

Speaker 1

Yeah , yeah , I mean , you know what ? Yeah , yeah , I , I , I would as well . Well , awesome . Well , jaws and fences uh , appreciate that insight into these epic poker attorneys . Like I can't wait for 2024 , for our next one . It's only going to get better , uh , now on to our next discussion , alrighty , so let's jump into our top 12 Sunday soldier countdown . It's our latest in entry . We're excited to bring it to you each and every week , uh , about our amazing league . This week we are going to countdown the top poker moments in Sunday soldier history . Uh , brought to you by Jaws and fences . I'm going to count it down from 12 to one . Jaws and fences is going to provide , uh , some color commentary , some stories , some history behind all these . So let's jump into it . Uh , so , coming in at number 12 in the top poker moments and Sunday soldier history , we've got the tradition of Bazinga's chili before the tournament and little miss blackberry , oh yeah .

Speaker 3

Right Now you could argue Bazinga's chili could be ranked number one . I'm not going to lie , it's , it's that good .

Speaker 1

It's something we look forward to .

Speaker 3

You know , Bazinga will cook some chili for the boys . He'll also cook up some tri tip , a tender that's been known to make some homemade cornbread for everyone .

Speaker 1

That's right .

Speaker 3

Um , I think last year we didn't get the chili , we didn't get the tri tip . That probably is what held me back from pushing this up all the way to one Yep . So , bazinga , I know you're going to listen to this bring it back , man . We love it , we need it , we do . Um , either you bring it back or you give up that recipe . That's right , the secret recipe . It's one or the other .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I think , I think , I think , uh , what was it two years ago ? And ended up being like a group effort with a bunch of the soldiers to help them kind of put that together . I think that's something that we need to do again . You know , if it's a group effort , we need to get back , because Bazinga's chili is just that thing that we all look forward to . It's . It is synonymous with poker night , right ? It's one of those things that they go hand in hand .

Speaker 3

We do and we need to bring it back . So , bazinga , please , please , bring it back . And then , little miss Blackberry is something we it's been a tradition , uh , most years . When we can find it , cause it's it's difficult to find , we bust out a few bottles , open it up . Everyone gets a little . Poor matter of fact , we're drinking it now , boys . Can we get just a regular cheers , since I'm here tonight ?

Speaker 2

We'll do two of them .

Speaker 1

A poker tournament cheers , all right Cheers boys Cheers , I love it .

Speaker 2

Champ , cheers , champ cheers .

Speaker 3

You guys need me to take a picture or anything . But it's just it's tradition and I love it . It had to make the list , so I love it .

Speaker 1

I love it . So , coming in at number 11 , mosvets history . This is funny because we just know it . Uh , mosvets history of not knowing the blinds .

Speaker 3

Yeah , classic Moes . Right . Early on , when I started directing the tournaments , I would print out just one sheet of paper with the blinds right , 20 minute levels . They're not going to change for 20 minutes . You know the blinds are 100 , 200 , right . But as the tournament director , mosul , would always come to me and ask me what the blinds are , fair enough . So I would tell them , and this repeated for a few years . So then I would print out six sheets and , just you know , lay one in Mosul's seat . He would lose it and constantly ask me the blinds . Well then I had to , you know , find some software and that's honestly how we got to software to putting it on the TV screens in the projector .

Speaker 1

Nice .

Speaker 3

Mine was blown Pretty sure I have it Still didn't know , he would still ask me what the blinds were .

Speaker 1

Not surprised .

Speaker 3

So yeah , I love me some Moes vet and you know it wouldn't be a poker night if he didn't ask me the blinds , so we had to get that on the list .

Speaker 1

I love it . I love it Coming in at number 10 . I'm going to laugh at all these because they're so iconic Bazinga eating pizza at the poker table with a martini glass full of ranch .

Speaker 3

It's just one of those images that get that gets burned in your mind and it's just there forever . Yeah , classic moment . There's pictures of it out there . There is I'm . I guess the thought process was he wanted to keep one hand free to play poker and he could just dip that slice of pizza in that martini glass . I mean , smart move . I'm not hating on it , no , no , I'm not saying I'll never try that move Right , but it's just an image that makes me laugh and a great memory .

Speaker 1

I love it . I love it . Yeah , it's something I think we all . That might be somebody's contact photo on their iPhone . I don't know who it is in our group , but I think somebody has that as their contact photo of the Zynga , it's so good yeah , coming in at number nine . Oh yeah , this is good . I love this , lois , and found Netflix and chill play heads up all night .

Speaker 3

Yeah , another classic moment . So the tournament ends , cash games get going . They're always juicy . I don't remember exactly if I crashed at Dizzle's house . I want to say I went home and the next day was draft day , so I arrived relatively early . Tender day was going to whip up some breakfast for the boys . So I get there and I see Lois looking very , very tired and Netflix and chill , packing up and so I questioned like what's going on ? And you guys said you played heads up , no limit , hold them poker all night . You keep in mind this was like eight nine am .

Speaker 1

And it's draft day .

Speaker 3

It's draft day . You were panicked .

Speaker 1

I was panicked . My plus one picked me up , took me home . I think I got maybe an hour and a half two hours for the sleep , and it was rough . This though , my buy in was taken care of from that heads up tourney , and now I hey in my defense . I can't tell you how many times I tried to chop that pot for like literally four or five hours .

Speaker 3

Let me tell you something . You get a character like Loson , found heads up and wants to play you . You stay up 72 straight hours if you have to . Those opportunities don't come around every day and you take advantage of it .

Speaker 1

And this stemmed from the classic tournaments over we're going into a cash game . At that time , I think we ended up having multiple cash games and this was just one of those cash games that just kept going , so loved it Ended at number eight tournament shop negotiations . There was there is an infamous chop right I think we talked about this , yeah .

Speaker 3

So as the tournament director , I try and stay out of the chop discussion , right , right . But if I'm called upon to help negotiate , I will jump in . And I wanna say this was JMFR , possibly it was Bazinga , but they call me in to help negotiate the chop and like well , where are you looking for ? And they said well , I want $1,500 and then they can chop the rest . So you want how much ? I said $1,500 . And I look and I'm like well , first place is only 1,200 . You want more than first place money to allow them to chop . And I'm fairly positive as JMFR and you could tell he was confused and then realized it was more than first place money . He's like hey , if you don't ask , you don't know Exactly . Well , boys , I'm gonna remove myself from this chop discussion , do what you want .

Speaker 1

I don't think it happened right . I think we went down . I remember that one . That was great , yeah , a major chop . So , coming in at number seven , is we set up 44 Magnum in a cash game hand and it was Quads versus a Royal Flush . I don't know that . I know this . It was a classic moment .

Speaker 3

So we're playing cash game , 44 needs to get up and use the restroom . But he says deal me in . So he pops up , he goes around the corner and Dizzle , say , wait , boys , let's set him up . And I didn't know exactly what he meant at the moment . And he said let's set the hand up . And so what he ended up doing was setting the deck where 44 Magnum would have Quads and someone else playing the cash game would have a Royal Flush , Wow . And so he came out . The hand plays out . He can't , 44 Magnum can't get all those chips in the middle of the pot fast enough . I mean for good reason , Absolutely . And the look on his face when a Royal Flush was flipped over , he was crushed . He was already having a rough night , if I remember correctly , and he was just like that's it , boys , I'm done for tonight . But then it kind of clicked that he was away from the table for a few minutes and something suspicious may be going on , and obviously we let him in on what happened . But it was just a great moment .

Speaker 1

How did he take it ?

Speaker 3

The way .

Speaker 1

44 Magnum would take a beat like that you know .

Speaker 3

I mean , I think he- .

Speaker 1

He still turned in for the night Like you've been still no once we let him in on the secret .

Speaker 3

he sat down and played , but he laughed it off and it was a good time I love it , that's

Cash Game Selection and Tournament Moments

Speaker 3

great .

Speaker 1

Coming to number six , JMFR declares oh , I'm sorry , JMFR . Dealer's Choice Cash Game Selection Blackjack .

Speaker 3

Yeah , so this is amazing . As you guys know , the cash games typically will play like a round of no limit hold them and then it quickly becomes Dealer's Choice and Pass the pineapple by Dealer's Choice , whatever game you wanna make up in the moment . Yep , now , jmfr is a special player , very , very special , and I can relate he's a DJ , and so am I , and I love him for that . But historically , when the deal comes to him , the game he picks is nine handed Blackjack and he's the banker . It's just amazing , you know , and this is the type of guy you wanna play a cash game with he's action , you know he's a lot of fun . But yeah , I mean , think about that , guys . He wants to deal nine handed Blackjack .

Speaker 1

And he wants to be the banker .

Speaker 3

And he wants to be the banker .

Speaker 1

I mean the odds , are you know ?

Speaker 3

Yeah , yeah , I mean it's a smart decision . How ?

Speaker 1

else are you gonna recoup the seven rebies from the tournament earlier , right ?

Speaker 3

For sure , and I'm not even sure he puts a limit on what you can bet . You know , so you know it's a lot of fun , you know , I find it funny and we have a good time with it .

Speaker 1

That's great . Yeah , the cash games do get quite interesting because Dealer's Choice , I mean it varies . We've got the famous Pass the Pineapple . We've got everything's wild but Deuces . I mean it takes a long time for people to call a hand because they're having to calculate all the different possibilities that could be out there .

Speaker 3

Right , well , cheese Kingdom and Old man Flash . We do play cash games during the weekend .

Speaker 2

Yeah , yeah , I mean the cash games . I'm usually either out of the tournament , like one of the first couple of hands , so I don't know if I'm around long enough for the cash games . That's the issue .

Speaker 3

There's been a few times I've told you jump in and like slide $40 in chips your way .

Speaker 2

There has been .

Speaker 3

And I would have more fun burning that money in the backyard honestly than watching you play . It's amazing , like poof , how quickly you can make that disappear Very quickly .

Speaker 1

You're like a magician . All right , so this is great . So , coming to number five , Mucking Netflix and Chills Hand , you remember this one ? I mean , I don't really remember it , but I was told about what happened . I all I know was that night there was a lot of vodka and a lot of Kanye being played At Rich Bones house .

Speaker 2

At Rich Bones house . This was the same night that we had the last minute vote too , I believe it was . So all that one night , a lot going on , obviously .

Speaker 3

Yeah , yeah , it was a bit of a blur for everyone involved , but it was poker night tournament . You may have had a handle of vodka in your system and maybe a 12 pack of Red Bulls , but we were being fairly patient with you . You were a couple feet from your seat but you were in the middle of a conversation and I can't imagine what it's like trying to have a conversation on a 12 pack of Red Bulls . But , like I imagine , you're going a thousand miles per hour and I try to get your attention . No luck . So finally , I said muck his hand , because a tournament rule is last card off the deck . You have to be in your seat .

Speaker 1

Absolutely and you you snapped Uncharacteristically .

Speaker 3

Oh , it took me by surprise . I was thinking another jaw and another fence .

Speaker 1

Yeah , yeah , I don't think I was . I was not GMFR's plus one's favorite that night either , so I think I might have spilled something on the table .

Speaker 3

Yeah , we were slapping the table after I mucked your hand . But we've all been there , we've all done it , absolutely Classic moment . Classic moment . It's all the next day Exactly . It's all love .

Speaker 1

I love it . I love it Coming in at number four , 44 Magnum playing Plow for the first time .

Speaker 3

Pot limit Omaha .

Speaker 1

Pot limit Omaha . Oh , that's right .

Speaker 3

Yeah , so early on the cash games after the tournament was all no limit , holcomb , yep , and we slowly try to introduce new games . Tender did actually , to my surprise , was the PLO player . So we , I introduced this game along with tender , did ? It's a little bit more of an action game . I thought everyone would like it . We we actually did play at no limit because no one can keep track of the pot , but that's another story .

Speaker 3

So so 44 Magnum gets a hand you know it's ace ace , like nine four with no suits , and in Holcomb obviously pocket ace is the best starting hand . But in pot limit Omaha , ace , ace , nine four with no suits , you're probably not a favor over a random hand , right . But he gets it all in preflop against someone in the cash game and loses right , which is really no surprise . And he tilt a bit , he really does . He I'll never forget this because he looks at diesel and says diesel , this isn't poker , this is gambling , I'm out of here . And so he does a walk off , goes to bed he's still had chips left over left him on the table Night night , I'm out . I cashed him out , gave him the money in the morning and I love this story so much because fast forward to where we are today and he's like I want to do a pineapple , you know oh your card .

Speaker 3

two players to the right . Deuces , fives and sevens are wild Yep so we've come a long ways .

Speaker 1

We've come a long way . It is straight up gambling it is . I mean , I feel like you literally have to be goodwill hunting sometimes to figure out the odds on these hands with what we play , Because you're passing two of your worst cards . All these things are wild .

Speaker 3

Oh , and best hands are missed . No doubt about it .

Speaker 1

Oh my god , it's nuts . All right . So coming in at number three , I'm curious about this one because I don't remember this Disqualifying Losin found from the tournament .

Speaker 3

Yeah , this is quite the night and as the tournament director you have to make some tough decisions . I was actually playing at Losin found's table that night and he disappeared . Which is fine , it's a tournament , you can get up and get some fresh air , get a drink whenever you want , right . So I dealt for him the first time and then the second time and put his blinds in for him . It was getting a bit ridiculous . So I went and looked for him . Surprise , surprise , I couldn't find him Losin found . So whatever , I'll keep putting his blinds in , I'll keep dealing for him . I get up again , look for him . I find him . This time he's asleep on the couch . I wake him up . He says he's coming back . I let another 30 minutes , 45 minutes go by . No , Losin found . So eventually I picked up his chips and retired him . He was down to maybe like five big blinds . It was gonna happen anyways , but I didn't wanna have to deal with him . Deal his cards for him . Well , guess who came up ?

Speaker 3

Guess who came back ready to play poker tournament ? Losin found .

Speaker 1

Just needed a two hour nap right .

Speaker 3

So he was a little tilted about that . We worked it out . I offered to reimburse his tournament entry . He was cool , he didn't want it , he understood , but in the moment it was pretty classic .

Speaker 1

Classic Losin found . Classic Losin found All right coming in at number two soldier only tournament chop .

Speaker 3

Yeah , this was great . I think maybe you were at the table for this . This is one of the nights we had 30 to 40 players . At this time we were probably down to five players I think you were in there 44 Magnum , maybe JMFR and myself and one non-soldier . Okay , and so there's five of us , right ? Four soldiers , one non-soldier , and it's getting pretty late in the evening .

Speaker 2

Is this socks ? And ?

Speaker 3

sandals I think it was socks and sandals . So there's a little bit of history there . We won't get into it , but there was some history . So he wants to chop , you know , and I actually , I was fine with chopping , but a few comments were made that like I don't chop with only anyone but soldiers , and so we kept playing and we kept playing and about an hour later socks and sandals gets it all in . I don't remember who is all in with , but he was behind the flop comes out , he's still behind the turn . Comes out , he's still behind the river , comes out . And before that river , you obviously , you see it before it hits the felt , Before that card hit the felt , 44 Magnum hops up and says you want to chop boys ? And we all said yeah , and it hits the felt and socks and sandals was tilted and the four of us chopped and we shrugged our shoulders and said we only chop with soldiers .

Speaker 1

I won't go too much into detail , but there was no better person to have that happen to than socks and sandals , and I don't know that we've ever seen socks and sandals again .

Speaker 3

It was his second and vitus first and his last , Exactly , yeah exactly .

Speaker 1

Oh , this is great . So , coming in at number one , mosvet busts and tells Jaws and Fences , take it all . And by take it all , please go go into yeah , this is .

Speaker 3

I've played a lot of poker hands . This is literally my favorite poker hand I've ever played and it has nothing to do with how much money I won . It's just what took place and I love me some Mosvete and he's . He's run very , very bad in poker in general . Oh yeah , draft weekends . You know there's nothing he can do about it , but so we were playing a bounty tournament , if I remember correctly , and I believe this was at rich bones house .

Speaker 3

That was an action night and how I think about it yeah what and and I and I and it was a bounty tournament , so I I bust them out of the tournament . He slides all those chips over to me and he's getting up and he's walking off and I said hey , you know , mo's , I need those too . And I'm pointing to his bounty chips and he wasn't happy about that . I didn't want to disrespect the manager , to reach over and grab his bounty chips right , of course not . So he slides them over very calmly and says jaws and fences , take it all . It's like well , well , thank you , I won the hand . He reaches into his pocket , tosses his wallet on the table . Take that too . And now I'm starting to laugh .

Speaker 3

This is classic . You know , this is all in fun , clat . The classic meltdown . He reaches into his pocket , pulls up the keys for his vet . Take the vet to . You might as well . You're gonna get it at some point . Now I'm laughing so hard , boys like my head is starting to hurt . Next thing , I know , he pulls his hat off and throws it on the table . You can have my hat as long , as long as we're at it . It's like well , mo's GG , it's not necessary .

Speaker 3

And and to top it off , he pulls his shirt off . He literally takes his shirt off , throws it on the table and tells me I can have that as well , and walks off . Classic moment the favorite , my favorite hand of poker I've ever played in my life and I will never forget it . Mosvet , thank you for that .

Speaker 1

Thank you for the number one spot in the top poker moments in Sunday Soldier history . Ah , oh my gosh , and there's so much more .

Speaker 3

No there's .

Speaker 1

So I mean there's just it's a to narrow it down to that 12 . I mean I can't wait for season two to have you back and we're gonna go over the next 12 and it's just gonna be just as entertaining that , folks , until it took me about 30 seconds to put this list together .

Speaker 3

I mean , there's so many moment moments from poker night . It's so much fun .

Speaker 1

Oh my gosh , I can't wait . All right , well , jaws and fans is . Thank you for the insight into how these Legendary poker tournaments are run . Thank you for sharing with us your top 12 poker moments . I mean , they are just quite , quite hilarious .

Trade Negotiations and Friendship Drama

Speaker 1

Now , but before we end this kind of guest segment and we all jump into , you know , a week review we want , we like to give our guest , you know , a moment of Rebuttal . Is how , as , as we call it , because obviously we've been playing this league a long time , tensions run high , smack talk runs high . We have our iPhones only chat . So many people have been put put on blast , you know . We want to give you an equal opportunity , as we do every soldier that comes onto this podcast . You're a moment of rebuttal . Anybody else that you want to put on blast , something that might have been said to you on a podcast , something that might have been said to you on an iPhone chat ? We just want to give the floor to you and give you a moment to defend yourself or Rebuke something that someone has said .

Speaker 3

Jaws and fences the floor is yours that flicks and chill chase kingdom . I'm a pretty chill guy , as you guys know . It's it's really all love . I love you guys . All I wish you the best of luck in the playoffs , whether that be the winners bracket or the losers bracket , and , more importantly , I want to give a shout out to Los . I love you , los , I miss you .

Speaker 2

Yeah , Los , can we get you back in the group chat ? We miss you .

Speaker 3

I would love to see him come back in . Yeah , but it's all love , man . Best of luck to everyone , whether you're in the winners bracket or the losers bracket . Let's keep grinding , boys .

Speaker 1

I love it . Well , there you have it , jeff Fisher I mean Jaws and fences giving his moment of rebuttal . Now on to the week 12 and 13 review . All right , so let's jump into our Weekly review . This is weeks 12 through 13 . We're gonna go through a bunch of , like you know , standings are a six-place position which is now based on points . Now , here's the thing . Before we jump into all of that , obviously we're coming towards the end of the season , so there's not a ton of moves . In regards to like trades and like fabbids , money's been spent , trade lines been been passed . But seeing that we have Jaws and fences Jaws and fences Excuse me here in the recording studio as well as cheese kingdom , I do want to highlight a trade that almost happened prior to the trade deadline . So I'm gonna give . I mean , rumor is it could have ruined a friendship , you know , but I'm gonna let these two kind of like chatted out . So , cheese kingdom , jaws and fences , you both have the floor .

Speaker 3

Yeah , so we had a trade in the works At the moment . You know , in the queue I had tank Dell Going to chief's kingdom and I was gonna receive Mark Andrews and we , we went back and forth via text , right , yep it in my mind . It felt like it was pretty close to being done .

Speaker 2

Yeah , no , it was . It was definitely an offer that you know I was Very close to accepting and I think later that night and we talked about it was before fabb had gone through and then received a text . Well on Tuesday night .

Speaker 3

Yeah , well , before that text , I Sent you a text and I said you know , cheese kingdom , let's get this done . Correct and you said , hey , if you don't mind , can we wait until after waivers . Correct you do remember that yes .

Speaker 2

so far , so good .

Speaker 3

Okay . So in my mind I didn't know if that meant it was a done deal after waivers . Clear , you know we're gonna make the trade . So I was on my phone looking at different options and a trade offer comes across from Netflix and chill , and he's offering me Pacheco for tank Dell . And I love me some Pacheco and I wanted to auto accept that trade and you know I did correct we have .

Speaker 2

Yet this has been part of the conversation as well that that night even literally 30 seconds after that trade Came across .

Speaker 3

What did I do ?

Speaker 2

You'd you try calling me .

Speaker 3

FaceTime , facetime . I want to see your face .

Speaker 2

You want ? You want to see the the ?

Speaker 3

yeah , absolutely , it was a FaceTime you said you're feeding the kids , blah , blah , blah . Eventually you try to get back to me and we were sending text messages back and forth and I think I text you . Hey , were you under the impression that this was a done deal ?

Speaker 2

Correct . That text did come through right . Yes , and , to be honest , there was never in my thought that it was a hundred percent done . I had offered . I actually think I threw back a Counter proposal .

Speaker 3

Yeah , as I had this hot trade correct in my queue to accept , correct . So yeah , and your counter proposal didn't exactly come through a lightning speed . You know when you're . When you're within a text message and you see the dot dot dot , uh-huh , if it was probably up there for a minute , but it felt like an hour .

Speaker 2

Legit no , yeah , no longer than a minute , probably around a minute .

Speaker 3

But he fires back some bullshit counteroffer to me and I'm like I need a simple yes or no . Cheese came . Did you think this was a done deal ? And my answer was no , I did not at that time your answer was you fired another counter at me , and so , in the meantime , I pop open the , the Yahoo app , to look at the trade . Well , guess what happened ? It was pulled from from the trade chill pulled the trade and I was Tilted .

Speaker 2

I think my next text message was green . It didn't even go through its blue because I might have been blocked at that time .

Speaker 3

Yeah , yeah . So I was a little heated about that . I mean , cheese kingdom comes from a different generation , you know . You know he's 21 guys , my generation . Your word means something handshake , agreement , call it what you want . I just wanted to make sure I wasn't gonna burn him in the long run , so I wanted clarification on it At the end of the day .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I mean at the end of the day , I think it . Uh , andrews goes down the next week , tank goes down . Two weeks later You've got Pateko . I think it all ended up working out for you .

Speaker 3

Yeah , netflix and chill did make me sweat it a little bit . He did . There were some offers because I just , you know , I just resubmitted the trade and you countered several times .

Speaker 1

Yeah , just just just which . I think at that moment that was . I think that that was our third trade right . Yeah , we move some players we had moved some . Why I originally had Pacheco I did , you did yeah , which yeah , and I needed at that , yeah , oh , that was part of the the fields Pacheco , mahomes and the block pickings , the block button buster deal really hasn't resulted in much of anything .

Speaker 3

Yeah , yeah , I mean , a friendship was saved . You saved that friendship . You're welcome to both of you .

Speaker 1

Yeah , but I mean , hey , I you know as a witness firsthand Cheese Kingdom had had a rough time pulling the trigger on trades this year . There was a lot of self doubting , a lot of second guessing , because you were so deep that it's just tough to kind of like get get rid of anything .

Speaker 2

Yeah , I felt like on any trade I would receive , it was like no , no , my depth , like you said , was pretty good and I felt like I wasn't getting the player that was going to step in that I needed . So that was a little bit , hasn't . Yeah , dizzle has been hitting me up . He's still trying to hit me up after the trade line of getting guys and I'm like , look , he's like you won't trade ever . So I think I did make two trades this year , which maybe is two more than some other people have made , but yeah , it's , it was tough to pull the trigger on someone and I wish I would have pulled the trigger on Andrews for sure .

Speaker 1

Oh yeah , After that deal had was done , I had , I mean , obviously I had learned a lot with trading this year , because I'm like you can't get points for what's on the bench right , and it's all about the now for me . So I was trying to tell you , I think at that moment I was like , dude , you got you have Andrews and Hocketson , like you need a quarterback . And I was like dude , you need to hit up Moes and get like Stroud or Burrow , which at that time , like either one , I was like Moes needs that . He was just like he couldn't give up . Like which , I get it . You have that . That debt that's hard to . And then that's when that happened .

Speaker 1

I think it was that night , Was it Thursday night ? Andrews goes down , but then you would have been SOL either way , because if you had got Burrow , he was down . So you know you win some , you lose some . You never know . But classic , classic non trade moment . I'm glad I saved a friendship . You 100% saved a friendship . That's what I'm here to do , you know . All right , so let's jump into the season review . Chiefs Kingdom , do you want to go through our current standings ?

Speaker 2

Yeah , we've got the , the one seed , sitting rich bone there at nine and four . He's got a huge lead in points as well , which is obviously very big at this point . Season 44 Magnum at two , at nine and four , myself Chiefs Kingdom at nine and four , sitting in the three spot . Tinder did also at nine and four in the four seed . Then we got Bazinga at seven and six , jaws and Finches at seven and six , dizzle in the seven seed at six and seven , jmfr at six and seven and then Netflix and Chill five and eight . Losen found four nine , mosvet four , nine and in 12th place Old man Flash at three and ten . So very interesting .

Playoff Race and Rule Changes

Speaker 2

A lot of you know groups that are in the standings there that you know coming down to the last week is going to be , you know , a big a bit of craziness here . Big week , no doubt .

Speaker 1

Yeah , it's it is a huge week it is the last week of our regular season and why it's huge is we've got I mean , obviously , slots one through four . Are you're locked for the playoffs right Now . It's just a question of who's getting like the first round by right Now this is where it gets interesting , right ? Cause one of the things that we changed this year's as we've talked about many times is we used to be the top six . Records right , would make it to the playoffs . Now it's the top five . The sixth spot is decided upon most points . So at the end of the season , spot six through 12 is decided on whoever has the most points . So if you finished with just one win , but you just had the worst luck and had the most points , you're getting into that six and final spot , right ? The idea was to eliminate the , the excuse that it was just bad luck and it was matchups and all that stuff .

Speaker 1

So let's discuss how this kind of breaks down . So currently , uh , bazinga is sitting there at five and six , right , so everybody who's in position to possibly get that sixth spot , uh , based on points , is rooting for Bazinga to win , right , cause Bazinga is , I think , second in points overall in the entire league . So Bazinga wins , that six spots will basically come down to uh three teams . It's going to be Dizzle , jaws and fences , netflix and chill an old man flash , right ? So the four of us are all rooting for Bazinga to win .

Speaker 1

Now , how it breaks down in this is if we look at the bottom seven in points total , dizzle is leading with a little over 15 , 72 . Now , jaws and fences is only 18.17 points behind . So , whether Jaws wins or loses , his goal is to finish above 18.17 points , above whatever Dizzle does . So his goal this week which it makes it interesting , right ? Sure , because you're looking at okay , uh , prior to us changing this rule , we're trying to win . Now you're looking at what gives me the most upside , what ? What player gives me the most upside ? Cause I need points , right ?

Speaker 3

What I have available to me this week is I have , I have two paths to get in . Okay , I have a win and I'm in . If I beat Bazinga , I'm in .

Speaker 1

That's right .

Speaker 3

That's right , yeah , um , if I don't beat Bazinga which , for the record , I don't think I will Then it comes down to points . He's been tough . Yeah , I mean , when you have Josh Allen , tyree Kill , I mean those two players alone can bury me .

Speaker 1

Kenneth Walker has been like , I mean playing .

Speaker 3

Josh Jacobs , yeah .

Speaker 1

It pains me to say , but Zynga , I don't know how he stumbles in drafting well like that every year . You know he's in the lab .

Speaker 3

He is he is he puts in the work and it shows .

Speaker 1

He sits down in his bean bag , he gets his clipboard out . He's right , he's just , he's in there .

Speaker 3

But if , if Bazinga beats me and he likely will I still have an option of outscoring Dizzle by 19 ish points , Yep , and if I do that I'm in .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I mean it's a . It makes it super interesting . So I'm sitting in in the third spot I have after me . So I'm I'm 43.11 points behind Dizzle Right . So I have to look at my matchup this week and I'm thinking is , is it Nate or Noah Brown of the Texans , or is it Roshan Johnson who's going to give me the most upside Right ? Cause I mean that's all you care about , because , like basically , ranking says start Adam Thielen , but he's been awful Right , and I'm like there's no tank . Dell sauce gardener is going to be on Nico Collins Right . So does that .

Speaker 1

So it is interesting how it makes you look at these matchups in a different way . You're like what's going to give me the ? I mean you've got in Chicago what you've got three backs , you've got Herbert , uh , foreman and Roshan Johnson , but you're playing the lions Right . You think it's going to be a high scoring game . So you're thinking more , roshan Johnson is going to be there to catch , like you know , the the dump offs um 43.11 points behind . It's a lot , but I think I scored 140 and diesel scored sub 100 . I think three out of the last five or like six weeks . My point is it makes it interesting .

Speaker 3

You're not dead , uh-oh .

Speaker 1

No , no , old old man flash is sitting there . He's 66.29 points behind . The interesting thing is , is he's not out of it , Right ? I mean he's ? He's a long shot , right , but he's three in 10 in a traditional format .

Speaker 3

His league or his season was over four or five weeks ago . But here he is . Is it a long shot ? Yeah , but he has the opportunity to get into the playoffs .

Speaker 1

Yeah , which , which I think , I think . I think that the great thing and how this league operates right Is this is one of those things you don't want to league where , if you've got the bottom three , just cashing it in and just be laying around , I mean going to attempt anymore because I'm out of it . You know , um , record wise , this is like old man flash is in last place , three in 10 , but he's not technically out of it . Right , if he goes nuts and scores 180 points , you know and everybody scores that he has a shot . But that's a great thing about our leagues . We're always looking for that way to kind of tweak it , to make it interesting to wear that last week of the season Like you still have the bottom team fighting , because what you don't want is this let's say you're in those top four spots and you're fighting for position to get a first round by sure .

Speaker 1

You don't want that last place team cashing it in , not caring , not having a line out Exactly , and then it screws you from getting the first round by because they got an easy one .

Speaker 3

Yeah , it's a competitive league . We fight till the end and there's a lot of teams that still have the opportunity to get into the playoffs .

Speaker 1

Yep , Fortunately we've got sitting number five . In the last seven spots We've got JMFR . He's 85.53 points behind . Might be a tough hill hill to climb . Loson found is there with 118 points and I'm not even going to tell you how many points most of it is behind because it just doesn't matter .

Speaker 3

I think he's had some really bad luck .

Speaker 1

Yeah , he's like , he's literally , he's 312 points behind .

Speaker 3

But he's continued to fight all season .

Speaker 1

If we go back , what was it last episode right In the Yahoo statistics ? I think Mosul's top four , top three . So it's one of those things you look at Mosul's having the roughest season , but overall that guy finishes like he's one of the best finishers in our league 100% .

Speaker 1

That guy puts in lab work like no other he does . Well , that's where we stand , kind of currently . I mean , it is a . It's the week of weeks , right ? This is the week that decides the buy weeks . This is the week that decides the final playoff spots , and we've got a number of Bazinga . We know is in , right , but we've got Jaws and Vences , dizzle , netflix and Chill and Old man , flash . All are in a race for that final playoff spot . It is going to make for an interesting final week and I'm so excited to see how this plays . I'm not going to lie . I do have a screenshot saved on my phone of Dizzle saying you have a 0% chance of making the playoffs and nothing would would bring me more , more joy .

Speaker 3

I think you have a chance .

Speaker 1

Yeah , I mean , hey , that's that's . That's why I made six or seven trades throughout the season , 70 plus moves .

Speaker 3

Look when we go into the playoffs there's , there's a high probability that I Will be in that seventh place spot , cause that's where , historically , that's where I am .

Speaker 1

Right .

Speaker 3

And chiefs kingdom . I've been saying this all year . What would happen ? I will get knocked out of the playoffs based off the new rule that we voted in this year .

Speaker 2

I've been saying it for weeks , months , so yeah , I think even after starting five and O it was still brought to the table of like watch what happens here , correct , and so a hundred percent . It's been said since week six Right .

Speaker 1

But it was five and O yeah , and you're sitting here at you're at seven and six . Now you've you've had a run of bad luck with Justin Jefferson . You've had a few injuries right .

Speaker 3

Yeah , I mean I'm one in five in my last six games . So yeah , it's been tough , but Holmes hasn't exactly performed as I was hoping . Jj , you know the injury gets extended week after week . Um , you know it's been a tough few weeks , but I literally set myself up for this Like I'm prepared . I mean , I started five and O and I said this is what was going to happen from the start .

Speaker 1

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best . Right .

Speaker 3

Yeah , and it's fine , you know it's . You know , seventh place , you know it's a good spot for me .

Speaker 1

Hey , I'm , I'm . I'm hoping for eighth , right ? Look , I know I'm a long shot to make the playoffs , but if I finish in eighth place , that's all I want .

Speaker 3

I I don't want to be in the from the possibility of being last place for the year .

Speaker 1

I've been in there the last two years and had to fight and claw to not get that trophy . I don't want to be in that . So if I get eighth place , I like that . I consider that a win . Right , I'm absolutely fine with that . Well , awesome . Well , that is our week 12 , 13 review . Can't wait to come back to you next podcast and let you know how it all shakes out . Will Netflix and chill pull a miracle and get into the playoffs ? Will Jaws and fences take down Bazinga , second most points in the league , and prove his theory wrong that he was going to get bounced out of the playoffs ? The next podcast will tell . All right .

Speaker 1

Now onto our league legendary moment recap . I want to talk about tradition , right , which is one thing that the Sunday soldiers have done so well , and I want to mention , like the poker tourney and I don't care if it's a poker tourney , I don't care if it's a golf tourney , I don't care if it's a frisbee golf tourney One thing that adds to this league each and every year is we just find a special way to add some ongoing tradition . Whether it's chilly poker tourneys , it doesn't matter , it's one of those things that makes our league great . It's one of those things that keeps everybody looking forward to get getting together each and every year . It allows you to build that camaraderie in your league . So if you're in your current fantasy football league and you want to make your league legendary as well , we highly , highly encourage you to build upon those traditions each and every year . Find that niche , find that thing that each and every one of you want to do each and every year and build upon it and make your league legendary , just like us
