Speaker 1Once again , I'm your host , nick the hair winters , along with my co-host zach cheese kingdom birthday yes , by popular demand , we are back another season with behind the scenes access of the legendary sunday soldiers fantasy football season . In this episode , we're going to recap the 2023 season , the highs and lows of that 2023 season and what to expect from , uh , this week's destination draft . Um , this draft once again takes place in Franklin , tennessee , just 30 short minutes outside of Nashville . So , um , zach , a little fun fact Did you know that Bakersfield , which where this recording is taking place in a trailer , nonetheless is known as Nashville West , and I believe it's due to the Buck Owens and Merle Haggard ties ?

So our sincerest apologies , but we are back Now . The reason for the lack of that last episode was mainly due to Zach's boss , right ? Not giving him the time needed to record that final episode . Speaker 2So the Empire Fund , I think we added seven years ago .
Speaker 1Yeah .
Speaker 2I think it's about 10% of our buy-in every year goes towards the Empire Fund . So , as you can imagine , imagine obviously , seven years into this empire fund pot has grown to a pretty decent amount . I mean so , um , not only was bazinga playing for , you know , the first place money , he also had essentially double that with the empire fund . So , um , you know more than half the league going after the empire fund . Um , he's the first time to first person to win it twice since we started that .
Speaker 1Did he play Richbone ?
Speaker 2He played Richbone in the championship .
Speaker 1So , Richbone , which we were all rooting for , Everybody who's in the Empire , Fund you , me and others . Believe it or not , I actually won one of these years , believe it or not . Richbone to your point , though was not in the running , so we all wanted him to win , to keep it alive .
Speaker 2Correct Right Yep , absolutely .
Speaker 1Thanks a lot , Rich Bone . Ruined it you ruined it for everybody .
Speaker 2Could have kept the Empire Fund alive , Rich Bone .
Speaker 1But I would like to point out I think didn't Rich Bone take like third , like he's done well the last few years right ?
Speaker 2He's had a pretty good run as of the last couple years . I know he's been in , you know , the third place game last year yes , two years ago now . Yeah , obviously in the championship last year . Um , yeah , he's been moving on up for a pretty good run the last couple years , so maybe it's his time we love you long time .
Speaker 1Rich bone um the loser . I wonder who this could be ? Uh , it's none other than uh , than myself , right ? Net , netflix and Chill has had a bad three-year run .
Speaker 2It's been brutal . I know we've talked about this and it's been obviously a lot of talk in the league , in our league message .
Speaker 1We actually just got off the phone with one of the commissioners themselves and I got land blasted . I literally got roasted for five minutes .
Speaker 2I don't think you get on a phone call where you don't hear about it now . I don't .
Speaker 1It's awful . It's one of those things you don't want to do and I've done it consistently for the last three years . Now , the only silver lining which the other 11 people in this league will never look at . The silver lining is , I think , two , maybe three of these years Now , the last three years , I've finished 11th , no 12th , 11th , 12th . Now that is not season rankings , right , that is playoffs , end of playoffs . So I was not the worst during the . I didn't draft the worst , I didn't have the worst , I didn't mismanage my team . I just got to the playoffs and stunk every year Like I just couldn't do anything with it bad run the last three weeks of the season yep , I mean , it's one of those things you you don't want to finish outside of eighth place here .
Speaker 2Nobody wants to get last it's , it's a fight to finish in the top top eight . Oh , it is , yeah , because you know you're safe from that last place game and you avoid it regardless . Um , even if you're not in the top six for playoffs , that seventh place spot is is big to be in because you're not .
Speaker 1You're not in the contention yeah , so it looks like final standings . Uh , bazinga finished first , rich bone . Uh , second jaws and fences , with a third third place . Finish that's . Uh , he's usually about four spots back in seventh place . So he's like , I think I think we nicknamed him the jeff fisher , which , which , how I would love to be nicknamed jeff fisher right now , like I would love to be named that , you'd kill for that oh my goodness .
Speaker 1Uh , fifth was a chief's kingdom . Uh , sixth was a tendered it . Uh , jmfr coming in at seventh , mose vet at eighth , um , nice finish 8th with a 4-10 record . Wait till you get to 9th . Old man Flash 3-11 . That was 9th . 10th was Dizzle 7-7 . And Losen Found was 11th , 4-10 . That's who I lost to in the Losers Championship game and Netflix and Chill sitting at the cellar 6-8 , 12th place . It's a lonely , lonely place to be .

Speaker 2I can say I've never been there before so I don't know what you're going through , but I do feel your pain there .
Speaker 1There are some consistent people in this league . I've consistently lost lately . Um , I I would like there a few people . I'm gonna be looking at draft strategies over the last three years because I do keep that data , um , and just I don't know , I gotta change my game there . There might be an upcoming change coming up . Uh , now , zach , what , what kind of stood out to you in 2023 ? Like you know , we had a bunch of events , might have had a few outbursts , um , you know , maybe a few arguments , uh , lots of competition . Um , I mean , there were a few things that stood out to me . Right , I mean , I would say me , the thing that I thought was most hilarious was movvet versus the Hound from Hell .
Speaker 2Oh , I mean , and it was not even just a one-time occurrence , it was the entire draft week .
Speaker 1And in the dog or the Hound from Hell's defense . Movet was warned multiple times don't leave stuff out .
Speaker 2And he , after even getting something chewed , uped up or , you know , ripped apart , there was still other things left out . After that illegal wallet out , legal verbal warning . He got the warning of like , hey , this is what I'll do to your stuff . And it was still , and I get it there's . You know , the drinks are flowing , you throw your hat on the table , whatever brand new travis matthew , whatever it might be , um , but I , you know , I think he's learned his lesson , hopefully .
Speaker 1That was one of the most enjoyable . I think that was first tilt of the week that happened on .
Speaker 2Tuesday as we know , the Mosvet tilts , as you can imagine how good this was for the week .
Speaker 1You have like the Mosvet tilt counter . That happens every week . Yeah , free entertainment Tigers Wood , my team , we did reclaim the title which , speaking of another mose , mose of that tilt , there was a putter , throw um . Now rich bone came through in the clutch , um in the putt off , in the putt off .
Speaker 2That's how good it is .
Speaker 1It comes down to a putt off , it's just if it wasn't for plus one and rich bones putting that we can , I we wouldn't be defending our title this year I heard , you know , I heard a couple of long putts , a chipping , it's oh yeah , that , that was . That was that was my chipping for an eagle . Bro , I will chip in for an eagle yeah , that's for an eagle .
Speaker 2I remember we were behind . You got right behind it . We did see that . I will say that , uh , champ squad is , uh is locked in and ready to go .

Draft Day Fallout and Football Fun
Speaker 1have to say . The most memorable thing for me , though , save it best for last , was the Tender Dit meltdown , literally draft day .
Speaker 2If Tender Dit was here right now , our mics would be unplugged . Yes , that was one of the most epic moments of draft draft week since I've been in the league at least , and you know it's got to be like top 10 all time of all time , I mean I I wish we would have had cameras rolling oh my gosh .
Speaker 1So just to provide some some context here on on what happened was we ? Um , we vote every year for what's called the bazinga Award , and so what happens is the process is , everybody submits to Bazinga , before the start of a new season , nominations for this Bazinga Award and it's almost as bad or worse than the Last Place Award . It kind of highlights a dumb move , bad management , make it a fool of yourself . I mean , the categories are wide open , right , and unfortunately this year we had this passion with very little participation . Nobody sent their nominations in , so there was like only two or three to choose from and somebody voted that Tender it did not represent the first place trophy as well as they should have , and basically just process of elimination . They're like everyone , just like I think I'll vote that one , not that it necessarily deserved it , but there wasn't any other options . We I mean , these were just the cards we were dealt and everybody voted that he should get it and laptops slammed , you know sodas were spilled Plugged from the draft board .
Speaker 2Draft board goes black . There's nothing there .
Speaker 1Basically , our IT department went dark . They went on strike and they're like run your own draft . Go get some post-its and some magic markers and use this wall . I'm not drafting if you're voting for me that speech he gave after that .
Speaker 2It was , you know . It's up there with some of the most famous speeches we've ever heard it was a fiery speech .
Speaker 1That was a great speech . I was , I mean , look , fired up if you're throwing someone on the stand to defend themselves , like I felt . Like felt like tenor did a fantastic job defending himself . But I mean , you know , rules are rules , laws are laws . A vote of your peers is the vote of your peers . You gotta accept . It didn't get accepted , uh , tempers flared . Um , we gotta hand it to jmfr because he gladly fell on that sword so we can advance the draft I don't even remember what his nomination was for JMFR .
Speaker 1I can't either . That's how poorly the nominations went . It was really really bad . It was just kind of yeah , he took it and we moved on . He did , and luckily , because we did not have enough Post-it notes to complete our draft , so we really needed IT to be back up and running . So , yeah , those were the things that stood out for me the most . Zach , what were a few things that stood out to you ?
Speaker 2Obviously , draft week we've gone through , but I think , just looking back now , something that we added was the flag football game . Oh that was so much fun . How much fun , kind of out there we had the race one , and I say one because we'll have some you know , oh yeah , here go , yeah , a little bit , but the race one and how close it was .
Speaker 2We had , you know , a photo finish that we had to do it again and we , you know , we didn't know it . We still and it's this was brought up last week of who won that race . Yeah , picks are on . We're trying to get the official ruling from the commish , from of like what is a you know who finished first ? Really , we still don't know , obviously .
Speaker 1We still don't know which , I think Dizzle found out that a photo finish is determined by the chest , correct , Right . So it's not a nose , it's not a foot Correct , because that was my argument . I felt like I was like dude . I think I got the foot over . But knowing that the chest is the determining factor , that makes it even worse .
Speaker 2It's , it's . Yeah , it makes it even worse . It's .
Speaker 2Uh , dizzle was all in on the olympics he , you know dug deep for us to figure that out , to give us yep , but , like you said , I think it made it worse , but dizzle does . But I mean just just that , leading up to the football game , how much fun it was , you know , playing . I think we'd play six on six , whatever it was . Uh , very competitive , as everything very competitive is , and uh , and I know this year will be that much better . I would imagine there's probably some jerseys from each team now .
Speaker 1I think we all might look a little sharper this year .
Speaker 2Yeah , it's going to be Than what we did last year . We look like a team , right . Yes , yes , but yeah , so just the football game in general and continue to do it every year after right , oh yeah , it just adds to the .
Speaker 1It adds to the lore that we have . Right , just another event that we do on top of , you know , everything else that we do , who knows how much longer we're gonna be able to run for , so there's , there's not , so let's . Let's get these flag football games in quickly , because I just I'm just always afraid to ruin my golf game . It's the one thing I'm good at , and so I want to maintain that well , yeah , at least the flagpole game is the last kind of event . It is yes .
Speaker 2Yeah , we get the golf in first , so looking forward to that again this year . Another thing is , with , obviously , some draft prep , recently , finding these values that were had last year in the draft was pretty crazy and it gets me excited to look forward to this year of what kind of values that we're going to come across . A couple that I made going to be , you know we're going to come across , a couple that I that I made some notes on that you can , you know , comment on too is the first one Sam Laporta finishes , oh , yeah , finishes . His tight end one was picked up by a for a dollar by Dizzle but was also dropped before he even got to play on his roster .
Speaker 1Bazinga , can we throw that on there as a nomination ?
Speaker 2Yeah , Bazinga , if you listen to this before Saturday , do what you want with that .

Speaker 2There you go . Another one . Jmfr drafted this guy and he kept him Nico Collins for $1 , ended up as wide receiver 10 . Just obviously wide receiver 10 , getting for $ for a dollar . Great value did I have a trade with ?
Speaker 1him . Didn't we like swap tank dell and nico ? I felt like there was one of those trades in there , but I , I could be tank dell was on like four different rosters last year .
Speaker 2I feel like it's definitely on mine I .
Speaker 1I think I broke the record for the number of trades you , you probably did .
Speaker 2You had you were slinging people left and right .
Speaker 1That was a lot of fun .
Speaker 2The next one , devon Aitken . Oh yeah , this guy was also drafted for $1 by Richbone but was also dropped at some point during the season . The one thing that I'm still not 100% certain on this on my draft prep is his drop of Aitken might have been for Puka .
Speaker 1Yeah .
Speaker 2You can kind of give and take .
Speaker 1there you had way more consistency out of Puka than you did from Aitken , because he was injured for multiple weeks ?
Speaker 2Absolutely . But what a great pickup by Lima . You know picking him up , but just the dollar draft there .
Speaker 1I would expect nothing less from 44 Magnum . That guy knows how to draft and pick up . Everybody Play the way . Yeah , absolutely .
Speaker 2The next one yourself , Mike Evans , for $7 .
Speaker 1See , I'm not all that bad .
Speaker 2Ended up wide receiver eight . So you know top 12 receiver $7, . Absolute value 44 Magnum , with one of the biggest stills , uh , finishing as running back five was mostert for a dollar . Oh wow , uh . For me , just looking at his roster of 44 man was he took his four big players , built around them with a bunch of dollar players and obviously had a hit on some of them . To finish , you know top top three or four , um which he's done that a few times he , that seems like to be his draft strategy , right ?
Speaker 2so , uh , moster are for a dollar , I think was one of the big ones . And then my last one honorable mention , uh , because it wasn't really one of these . You know , you see , all these cheap values , but cmc for 63 dollars .
Speaker 2Uh , by rich bone . He didn't even want him . Yeah , goes him out there , ends up getting nobody else bids on him , gets , gets him for $63 , and he ends up spending that amount , which is not cheap , but he is over running back two by $100 $63 is a steal in our league for that Caliber of players .
Speaker 1should have gone seven plus .
Speaker 2Yeah , if you're looking at it now , where running back two had more than 100 points less than CMC last year , you're spending $85 on him .
Speaker 1You spend whatever you can to get him at that point . And and when we talk about rich bones team , right , you've got like he had cmc . He also drafted kyron williams , or did he pick him up ?
Speaker 2one of those two . I think kyron was another pickup puka any apuca , like he had three . Like I mean man , yeah just great value there great job I mean 63 , that you see his value this year for CMC up in the 80s because of what he can do .
Speaker 1Yeah , trying to remember what I drafted , I got a lot of crap for Kittle drafting him .
Speaker 2I think you had a couple side bets , if I'm not mistaken .
Speaker 1I did I did , which helped me wash a few other side bets that I didn't win , finished top five . But man , I mean this gets me pumped , man , just thinking about , I mean you almost feel like these championships are probably won and lost with these dollar players , especially in our league , because we tend to spin heavy early , right 100% .
Speaker 2I always tell everybody it's a 10% premium on those first five rounds .
Speaker 1Essentially , I mean , have you ever looked at like the cheat sheets for like a $200 budget , we're like $20 over $28 for a running back one and it's like , come on , guys , what kind of league is this it's $68 . Yeah , we're all in . We're all in . I mean definitely a lot to remember what a fantastic season , first season of the podcast . I mean we can't end like a 2023 recap without talking about season one of the podcast , right in addition to yes , like we talked about our league just keeps growing , keeps growing .
Speaker 1Definitely season to remember and , um , I can't wait for 2024 , all right . So , speaking of 2024 , I mean there's so much to look forward to , right ? I mean , what are some of the things that I mean ? I think the thing I probably get excited about the most and it's probably because my fantasy game has been , you know , poop for the last three years is , I mean , we literally have three days of golf right , three straight days of golf set up , um .
Speaker 2I mean , it started with just the one day and hey , let's add a second practice round day before . And it's like , hey , who's gonna be here , that you know who's coming early , let's play this day . Um , and it seems like the numbers every year are getting more and more too it is the wednesday practice round used to be , you know , four or five of us . Now it's 10 of us . Yep , um , and I know last year you guys played on a Tuesday . We've added a second group .
Speaker 1This year we have a little small match on Tuesday Sounds like Wednesday . We'll probably have three teams and we'll do a money game between everybody . Then Thursday is the big match that everybody looks forward to , definitely looking forward to three days of golf . I can't talk about draft week without talking about the golf tournament . I I think , I think we might even be introducing like a third table did I hear that right for poker ?
Speaker 2yeah , yeah , I mean poker has been a staple in the in the draft weekend oh yeah , week now , for I mean , as long as I can remember , right since I've been in the league , it's been , it's been one of those main events , right , so it's uh jaws and fences like runs a poker tournament like it's no other world class it's .
Speaker 1I mean , I don't know why anybody would go to vegas , for when you can go to oh , it's amazing , I think , uh , I think by buy-ins are getting pumped up a little this year maybe , so it's what it sounds like .
Speaker 2Like you said , there is a , from what we saw , pictures of a third table . So to your point , I think it . Yeah , who knows ? I mean
League Evolution and Fun Outings
Speaker 2I love it .
Speaker 1It continues to even bounties , we leave bakersfield .
Speaker 2Yeah , bounties , oh different you know what . Who's gonna have the bounty on them ? It's , you know , so many different things that uh so freaking good .
Speaker 1Um , so we also have , which we've done for the last two years . There's a secret outing that we do on fridays that now comes after the flag football game , right ?
Speaker 2So we've added After flag between poker before poker it's Dude , it's nuts .
Speaker 1So the last two years . So last year we did curling right , which was so much fun , yeah , which was football tie-in to that . That curling center was owned by Mark Bolger right , Ex you know Stis ram uh greatest show on turf . He was part of that in the in like the final years played in baltimore so he got into curling . Um , the one thing I remember about curling is as much fun as it was was we had a teacher that literally had no patience at all .
Speaker 2Remember that it was , it was yeah , it was uh not the most patient . And I will say one thing I do remember is none of us are probably going to go to the Olympics on curling either .
Speaker 1Nope , nope , that will not happen . No , you're absolutely right . The previous year we had an outing and a little bit more relaxing right . Commish's wife uh treated us to uh , you know , a little like male pampering , uh , at scotch and scissors , which is genius idea . You got a . You got a bar , a scotch bar . Everybody was getting like old fashions and dirty martinis and all that , but it's tied into a barbershop .
Speaker 2Uh , it's like you said . It's a brilliant idea . Um , never had heard of it before . No , there , it was a surprise to all of us . Uh and then yeah , and you can explain that as we go to . You know what's the kind of . The next step is after getting getting a couple of drinks at the bar too .
Speaker 1Oh my gosh , it was , I mean , you had you shave some .
Speaker 2Some were getting a haircut , some were getting like a hand wax . Right , I got that .
Speaker 1That was great hand wax . Yeah , the kind of a little bit back .
Speaker 2Should have done that . It was yeah , it was great .
Speaker 1I should have done that um , I mean , we got the big football rematch with flag football last year . You guys were victorious . You demonstrated your seven foot vertical leap to pick me off . Uh , that that might have sealed it . Um , I think you mentioned earlier . I think we might look a little sharper . There might be some jerseys involved , yeah , the team I'm involved with .
Speaker 2I I'm sure there's going to be something . Yeah , um , you know , we'll see when we show up .
Speaker 1So part of me that wants to play with a um , a grown man's football this year , though , because playing with a little Nerf ball it's like the little Nerf ball .
Speaker 2yeah , it's the Tom Brady deflated . Yeah . I mean talk about deflating Talk about jerseys , though , I will say with you know , old man Flash on our team , he walks around with his shirt off , so that could be a team .
Speaker 1You must have got him like a crop top jersey , right .
Speaker 2It could be a team , A team theme . I don't know . I'm just you know , maybe we'll see . A bunch of like 80s crop top perforated jerseys , Maybe for skins , or you know , I don't know .
Speaker 1Oh wow , it's really interesting . I mean draft day , right , draft day is draft day . There's so much that happens prior to draft day and it's the reason we're there it is . It is you saved the best for last .

Speaker 1Right , and I swear like the thing about draft day is it's so sad when it's over because it's the culmination of like I mean all this , like you wait all year for it and then it's over and you're just like , oh man , it's just it's . It's really tough when it's over .
Speaker 2It's like , it's like you know happy Gilmore when he's in the batting cages , and it's like only you know , 52 more weeks till the hockey trial . It's the same 50 more to 52 more weeks till draft week again .
Speaker 2So , uh , yeah , uh , yeah , it's uh and we literally count that out oh , 100 , yeah , we , I think everybody knows that , especially when we get closer . But it's , uh , yeah , it's . It's definitely a recovery process . When we get back though , um , because of everything that's gone into it , I can imagine commission his wife with all they do , obviously , um , even more of a recovery there for them .
Speaker 1So I mean it is it's you know , it's one of those things where you get so pumped up . I feel like draft week , draft day . It's like a mix of getting out for school for the summer mixed in with a little bit of Christmas morning , mixed in with cracking a beer at 5 o'clock . It's all piled into one and as men , this is just what we get giddy for . It's the best . Let's talk about league evolution . We have a standard thing where we submit any kind of possible rule changes or changes to our league in general . I mean , everybody's pretty open to how can we make the league better ? What event can we add ? What rule can we change like ?
League Changes and Team Rebranding
Speaker 1I think last year was , uh , we implemented . That was the first year where um sixth place was not determined by record , it was determined by total points . Correct , right , first . First time we did that . Yep , I think it was popular , right I ?
Speaker 2think it would make sense . Every it kept everybody kind of uh in it . They all thought they had . You know , getting later in the season maybe your record's not as good , but you still are . You know , 80 points back from that playoff hunt . Because , who knows , in a certain given week oh , yeah , yeah it makes it fun so yeah that was the first year of that it's big .
Speaker 1So so what we do is we have a process is prior , you know , about a couple of weeks to a month before draft . We send our list or our suggestions to JMFR and he puts together . Sometimes it's like a survey monkey , sometimes it's done prior to draft , sometimes it's done draft day , Sometimes things are implemented immediately , sometimes they're implemented the following year because some people have a hard time processing changes and need an entire year to do so .
Speaker 1I'm not sure who that is , but , um , you know their whole draft strategies around that . Um , so , a few changes we we've had . I think we introduced one . We put it to a vote . Uh was we ? A bunch of us wanted to use the sleeper app over yahoo , and so , uh we , we had a poll on our iphones only chat and uh , sleeper jumped out to a quick like 5-0 lead 5-0 lead , and it was .
Speaker 2It was a late at night kind of everybody was involved in this . It was , uh , yeah , 5-0 lead for sleeper right away .
Speaker 1I almost think it went 6 . No , it never got to 6 .
Speaker 2No , it never went 6 . It went 5-0 . It got to 5-3 . And then actually one of the Sleepers changed their vote to Yahoo to make it 4-4 .
Speaker 1Yes , yes , so it was close . I'm a big fan of Sleeper . It's like the number one rated fantasy football app . The number one rated fantasy football app . Their desktop version is top-notch too . As opposed to Yahoo's still operating , their desktop version looks like Windows 98 . It's absolutely awful . Now , Yahoo's app I love their app , right , but the desktop version just cracks me up . I mean , it literally looks like Windows 98 . Like , I think I can set my team's lineup or I can play Oregon Trail , Either or Either or . But yeah , so it was a close vote . Who knows ? You know it may .
Speaker 2It's something I think we revisit , probably next year , because for me , and with me being , one of the deciding votes of going back to Yahoo was I had never played on Sleeper right . I played a small sample size of it . I wasn't real sure . Yet With a league of what we're in , I want to make sure that we it's good to get a full season in with that . I want to kind of see what a full season is like , and I wasn't sure if we wanted to lose our league history yet .

Speaker 1Our record book I , I was kind of I was good either way . Right , I I was , I was fine either way . Uh , another big change that we had to vote . This is a big one . Uh , this is . This has been a hot topic right behind the scenes um , uh , really behind the scenes , unless you were me and and I I was pretty vocal and labeled as cheap , which I don't really mind it was we had a big change to the food budget , right , so half our league cost goes towards a food budget that funds . You know , some of you may think it would fund an entire week of food , but it was really three meals and the cost of those meals like individually to certain people they just didn't agree with . And so the idea was do we increase , do we double the food budget , which would make all three meals ? It would have been $150 , $165 per meal , correct ? Yeah , there's a lot that would have to come with that meal . Absolutely , that was not one that I would have been voting for .
Speaker 1No , uh , it was either that or , you know , keep it the same and kind of roll with what we've been doing which which I was , I think , my thing , I was fine for keeping it the same , but I knew we didn't need that much . My thing was like have a portion of that go to the host yep , right , because I know there's there , there's some expenses there or get rid of it all together and we're all on our own for food . Um , and I think that's it caught some steam as it caught some steam .
Speaker 2You know someone to kind of jump out and do it . And people jumped on board .
Speaker 1You . I mean , look , when you finished 12th , 11th , 12th , you really don't have anything to lose , so you fall on the sword . Um , you just want to help any way you can . But , um , there's , there's . There's definitely some sensitivity out there , because the idea is like hey , you know what Do we all want to go in on pizza . Yes , here's the receipt . One person pays , split it , you know 12 ways makes it easy . But now no one's like I'm not splitting anything , i'm'm , I'm gonna get my own thing .
Speaker 2So it'll be interesting how it , how it pans out yeah , we'll see , and it's not something just like we talked about before .
Speaker 1It's voted back in if we need to yeah , I mean I , I do thoroughly enjoy not paying 20 for per slice of pizza you know , I'd rather not yeah , I I think there's uh , some other options . Uh , the other big change that happened and I think everybody knew it was coming . I mean there were rumblings and grumblings and I mean Schefter might have reported on it , field Yates , I don't know . We did have some ownership change , team relocation , team name change , netflix and Chill , just clean house no , right , no longer they're they've .
Speaker 1They've been retired right um . Rebranded , uh .
Speaker 2So netflix and chill will now be known as uh the hair right , and I think this is the first time it's officially out there as it is , it's on the app , but I think , yep , first time yourself actually putting it up , it is it is .
Speaker 1Look , I mean , it's a nickname that I've often been referred to . Um , next to you know , two-time loser now , but uh , I mean it , it fits me . Um , I'm fine with it , it's . It's time for a change . It's time for a fresh start . Um , we've cleaned out the front office . Um , dei is not a priority with this organization anymore . We're going pure talent first . Right , that's it . We're not looking for bargains and up-and-comers Like you got to be a proven winner or you have no room on the team , right , completely different .

Speaker 1Yeah , I mean , I even have a co-owner that you know has come in . We'll call this co-owner Plus One . And she says like enough's enough , that's it Right , stop embarrassing me . You know , pay all this money to travel out of town for you to collect a pink belt and possibly a Bazinga award , she said stop embarrassing me .
Speaker 2Missing me . Enough was enough . She says it's valid , though it's valid . It's valid week-long trip , like you know . She's there plus one's there for every event . Yeah , you don't want to .
Speaker 1You know she shouldn't catch any of the slack she ordered me a box of post-it notes and she's like get , get , get back to what works , right ? Um , so , yeah , yeah , we just , uh , cleaned house , we're going in a new direction . Um , you got to change things up . You can't know , definition of insanity or the definition of a loser is doing the same thing over and over again , expecting different results . You know , it's much like the Dallas Cowboys , you know , or the Raiders , right ? I mean , they're just doing the same thing over and over again . So you've just got to mix it up , you've got to roll the dice , and so it's a big change that has happened . Um , now , zach , do you see any kind of like up and coming , like votes that you know could be thrown out there ?
Speaker 2that like might gain some traction you know I'm not sure uh any that may be . You know necessarily that are going to be thrown out by anybody else . I could see some of the ones coming back around that we have recently voted on that were close . Maybe in the coming years like we talked about food budget stuff , like that come back around Um one myself that I uh , that I really like um and it's been nominated obviously is having a seven team playoff .
Speaker 2Yeah , at a mirror , the NFL Yup , yeah , kind of mirror the NFL Yep . One through six on standings , I like it . And then seventh seed based on the top points from the seven to 12 ring , and then the one seed obviously with the only buy .
Speaker 1Which . That would satisfy the people that voted against . Sixth seed Correct Getting it based on points Based back on standings . Yep .
Speaker 2We're adding additional spot Larry makes the playoffs every year than in a seventh seed , that's , larry makes the playoffs every year , then in a seven seed . It's a good point but I think it , you know , getting a two seed , getting a bite that's no longer there anymore with that , so you really want to try to shoot for that number one seed , oh yeah , but I think it kind of mirrors the NFL , you know , obviously with the seven teams in the play .
Speaker 1I mean I , I would definitely vote yes on it . You know a few other suggestions that that I've heard is you know a few other uh suggestions that that I've heard is you know we utilize a fab , um , uh , in our free agency , right , that's . That's how we bid on on players you know every week on like waivers , um . One suggestion was to include fab and trades which can be done manually , right , um , so it just adds a little extra flavor to the trade where it's like I'm going to give you this player , maybe it's not as good , but I'm going to throw $20 worth of fab which come in real handy , um and when , when you see a lot of the players that were picked up off of free agency this last year , I mean that could really could really be a
Speaker 1difference , absolutely Right , um . One other thing which I mean this would be this would be tough to do , I think it's possible um would be draft day trades with budget . So so everybody gets 200 bucks right . So let's say you're Rich Bone , you draft CMC , right ? Little did he know that was going to march him to the best record in our league . At that time he was like dang it him to the best record in our league . At that time he was like dang it . I like , like , like I didn't want him . What if somebody says rich bone , I know you don't want them . I had CMC down for 72 bucks but I froze . I'll give you 70 bucks right now If you give me CMC . Like rich might've been like wait . So now I have 207 dollars that I can bid on .
Speaker 2Players sold absolutely , yeah , 100 , or or maybe it's player , player and they get some of the drop budget where it's maybe rich ones like , hey , I wanted jonathan taylor instead and he only went for 50 bucks yeah , and you know they make the swap but also give him some of his money back I make a lot .
Speaker 1Or maybe you get a player dropped on you that someone else wants and you're like , hey , I will take a five buck loss I think , what you're saying whenever it's possible , is you're asking tinder to to get it figured out .
Speaker 1That's never gonna happen I , he , he absolutely could like , I mean he like , I think within a couple of minutes . I mean how , how much fun that you have like text messaging going it . It perfectly mirrors , like the NFL and draft day things that are going on . How awesome would that be , just before the auctioneer goes up and be like everyone's like , um , someone walks to the microphone , uh , we have a trade to announce and everybody's just like who made a deal ? I mean talk about that would be freaking awesome who just now ?
Speaker 1yes you , you give everybody like an envelope or two with like a post-it that they write down , they put it in the envelope , they turn it into the auctioneer . The auctioneer says ladies and gentlemen , we have a draft day trade .
Speaker 2How exciting would that be uh , this sounds like so much fun oh , dude , it would be maybe we need andy to figure it out so .
Speaker 1So what you do with the auctioneers ? You just say , hey , we will , we all have his number . You will get a text . So watch your phone about official trade , and it'll be between the two people and the auctioneer and it says so-and-so gets so-and-so , I think , to me .

Fantasy League Draft and Golf Analysis
Speaker 2. Add it in the draft .
Speaker 1I mean , if you're committed to stepping up your league and making it more interesting , that's the way to do it .
Speaker 2A hundred percent .
Speaker 1Another suggestion was money left over from your draft budget . So again , we all get 200 bucks . A lot of times people will fully roster a team and they've got , you know , five to twelve bucks left . That money carries over to the season and you get that in fab , which is completely possible . I've seen it . Yeah , um , I think that would be really interesting because it goes hand in hand right . Um , uh , I don't know if that'll make it .
Speaker 2I think people are worried about things being too difficult , but I just again , it adds another layer of , like you know , managing your team on not only draft , you know , obviously drafted any extra money you had , um , you know , if you didn't pay seven dollars for your kicker at the very end , yeah , then you pay a dollar .
Speaker 1You get the six dollars towards five because in the nfl you have Then you pay a dollar and you get the $6 towards five . Because in the NFL you have people that make trades that will move back in the draft because they know that the guaranteed money that goes to those players is going to be less , and so they absolutely will do that . So it makes complete sense . I think one of the last things I've heard was to basically include you get , like you know , 0.1 points for every yard for a kicker Currently . If you kick what , what ?
Speaker 2a 30 yard , you get three 39 and 40 to 49 . It's yeah .
Speaker 1Three , four or five points . This would be if you kick a 42 yard , you're getting a 4.2 points , Correct . You know every yard counts and somebody like me that is in last place , you want . You want every 0.2 points that you can freaking get .
Speaker 1So , um , yeah , anyway , just , I mean , just again , we're thinking out loud about ways to uh evolve our league to make it that much more interesting , to make the podcast that much more . So what we got is we got multiple events that are going to happen , as we've talked about earlier , during draft week . So we played , he beat me by like a couple strokes too . And then we get in the car when we leave and he's like I won the match and he made a video of it . And he's like I want to take a picture and a video of you handing me $20 . And I'm like I had no idea this was an official tournament . I wish I would have known . The stakes were a little bit higher . And so I basically said hey , we get the match too this year . And he's like I think he texted . He said sure , I'm like sure , no , it's happening .

Speaker 1Mosvet versus the hair yes , the match , two Yep Should be great . I mean , obviously I'm picking myself .
Speaker 2So my issue with this is Mosvet is on my golf team . Yeah , in the tournament that I'm involved in . Obviously I'm not involved in the match , I'm involved in the golf tournament . Your head says Nick I cannot go against Mos Nick . Your heart says Mosvet , it's my teammate . I need him to get locked in on Tuesday . I hope it's a great match . I will be there for the match too . That's right , I will be there with the witnesses . All Coach him up . For myself , I hope just to have a great show .

Speaker 1Yeah , I mean it's official and I you know what I'm I'm real excited this this year , our commissioner of golf tournaments , uh , chiefs kingdom , over here , um really looked for ways to make it more competitive . Um , really looked for ways to make it more competitive , um , so I think there's some strokes and that are are going to sun , sunday swagger , rightfully , so right , uh , and then they , they may have the ability , one of their players , and I think one of your players may be able to go from , like the yellow teas .
Speaker 2Yeah , there's all kinds of stuff still getting figured out . Just even it out the golf committee is , you know , working hard every day trying to get things figured out . Uh , and we'll obviously have it ready to go Thursday .

River lakes , I think , tried to stop us from going back to the one t they did ? We told them there's no way you're stopping us we went and played yep , there was 12 carts on the course following .
Speaker 1I felt like we were , you know , on tour and it was good , it was so good , and then , two years ago , um , uh , we did hermitage uh , the presidential court we were four under after the first nine and like cruising , and then we just just fit , I think we , I think we finished , for we , we bogeyed and then we birdied , but I think the winner got like five or six under which , which was you five under that year at the so back-to-back champs back-to-back champ squad there .
Speaker 2Yeah , so uh , which brought us to last year .

Speaker 1It was Because we were six and we bogeyed Correct and you got five and we went to a putt-off .

But I wouldn't be surprised , like I would put money on Sunday Swagger if there were odds , because they're getting strokes , if they get somebody moved up on a tee , if we both stumble , because the strokes they're getting pretty much bridges the gap .

Speaker 1That would be awesome . We might need to plan for that to figure out what we would be able to do .

Speaker 1Now if you wanted to take a page out of Liv Golf's book , in their team golf , when their teams tie , they have a team playoff right . So so obviously , live , they have an individual champion , and then they have teams that play . So what they do is and their teams are four , which mirrors us they basically play an extra hole , which is 18 , and the captain picks two players . They obviously pick themselves , but they pick another player , so , like , if you did that , you're obviously going to be all right , you know mike , mike and zach , or mike and steve , or like you know you know , whatever it is , who's had the hot ?
Speaker 2yeah , who's had the hot clubs that day ? I mean like , like what ?
Speaker 1if you're playing terrible and and steve's playing amazing and mike's like zach , I mean you aren't a player . But , dude , I gotta go with steve . Yeah , it's valid right .

Speaker 1Like yeah , I mean me feel like uh ken's probably the most , uh 44 magnum is probably the most consistent every time he drafts . I feel pretty good about his team , like it seems like he's right in the right , in the middle of things .
Speaker 1Every year , and probably due to his I mean I would say your draft is similar in terms of like outcome . His draft just might look more sexier Initially . You have a couple of people you're like . I got a lot of faith in this person and like they hit Right . But it may not be as like sexy as like what , what he does .

League Race Anticipation and Predictions
Speaker 2The thing with him too and I think we've talked about this is he hits on those dollar players . He the thing with him too and I think we've talked about this is he hits on those dollar players . He does . He's so good at it . He's multiple years I remember I think 2018 , because I think it was the year I beat him in those semis hit on a dollar Mahomes , hit on a dollar Kittle , hit on a dollar someone else Because he took those big names early and knew his dollar players and hit on all of them .
Speaker 1So he does , I'd be one of the best teams of all time . That never won . That's in the record book and I I think we talked about this on a previous podcast if we had a missing rings one , that's number one . It's one of them . It's , it's . It's the best team there that uh should have . Um , what about ? Uh ? The over under on the number of times's vet gets tilted .
Speaker 2This draft you know what I think ? Mo's vet goes under two and a half tilts this year .

Um , I wish you all could see the photo finish , because we still don't know who won .

It would be Chief Me . I would love to see this the two fastest people in our league . It would be Chiefs Kingdom versus Dizzle . I might give the edge to Chiefs because of age , but Dizzle I've seen that guy run and when he wants to run .
Speaker 2Let me ask you one question yeah , how many yard head start does Dizzle need to make it a close race ?
Speaker 1Oh gosh , See , if it was a couple years ago when we were playing soccer , I might give him the edge . But he's a little older I don't know what shape he's in Like you , probably still weigh the same he did in like 12th grade now . So I mean I'm in like 12th grade now , um , so I mean I'm I . Oh man , I would still , I would still bet on , I think I would still bet on dizzle .
Speaker 2I just think he's got like one final race left in him . He's . He was watching the olympics , he was all in on that . He's got some technique probably figured out see , plus one would agree with this .
Speaker 1He held back so much in soccer and was lazy so much in soccer that he probably saved up all of that for this one final race . But what a way to end it with a race . It's the fun we have . I would love to see it . Chances are it's going to happen Friday's pretty busy , as it is flag football's secret outing poker tournament . But we all want to see a race . I'm sure we're going to get well , we'll be able to coax somebody into it .
