The Webinar Course Funnel Scam
SPEAKER_03Okay. So the podcast that your episode last week about the woman who created a course and made a million dollars in 40 minutes?
SPEAKER_01Ashley, yes.
SPEAKER_03Okay. So I convinced a business friend of mine that they should do a course, and because the woman made a million dollars in 40 minutes. Why aren't you doing a course? Maybe you can make a lot of money in such a short time. It was hilarious. I was I was saying that and I was just laughing as I said it. But they actually was like, you know, I should do a course. But I'm sure her course will be very legitimate. Oh my god. But I was like, just do a course. Make a course. We I we were just discussing the other day how a woman made a million dollars in 40 minutes because of her course.
SPEAKER_01But was it was it a course on how to make a course?
SPEAKER_03Well, let me get into something else that's gonna make you laugh. So I sat in on this webinar today. And it was called Scale to Success or Scale Something to Success or something.
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_03An hour-long webinar. Okay. And this woman was saying I I had to laugh at the very beginning because she said she's made several million dollars, over 10 million dollars, selling her course, right?
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. Was it Ashley?
SPEAKER_03Nope, it wasn't Ashley. Right. And I'm not saying that her course is a scam because we know that the whole the whole trend now is that you sell you you put it you put yourself on social media, you build your brand, you build your personal brand, you sell products, right? Then you go in YouTube and you put up a YouTube channel, and then from there you create a course and sell a course, and you create memberships and subscriptions and you sell that, right? So everybody is doing the same thing. So people out there, some are scams, some are not, but be careful if you're doing a webinar and somebody tells you, well, I made $10 million, you know, selling a course. And I sit through this webinar to see how she made $10 million. I learned nothing.
SPEAKER_01No, she never said, she never said nothing.
SPEAKER_03She's selling her course, and her course was way, her course was way more expensive than Ashley's from last week. Because you said her course was $50. Well, how much was it?
SPEAKER_01Uh I believe it was $2,000. I couldn't find any concrete evidence on that, but um I found one person that bought it for two grand. So I have to ask you, when you signed up for this webinar, was this for research for scam artists and scam influencers?
SPEAKER_03I was no, because I told my friend she should do a course, right? So I was trying to learn how to create a course. Her her promo to sign up for the web car for the webinar is that we'll tell you how to promote a course and scale your course to success. That was her way of selling the getting you sign up for the webinar.
SPEAKER_01You didn't pay anything for this. No, no, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_03It's free. No, I don't pay.
SPEAKER_01So it was it was it was bait to get you to take the next step and then you pay.
SPEAKER_03Yes. And so basically, a lot of times some people are better at some of these webinars than others because they'll kind of give you a taste of what they did to become successful and how they did it, the mistakes they've made, and all this other kind of stuff. And then they try to sell you their course and so or hire them to coach you so that you can become successful like them. This particular lady, she said, I will teach you how to build a course, and even if you already have a course or you want to start a course and how to scale it to success. Not once did she explain how she scaled hers to success. How she started. She did say she started, she wasn't selling a lot. She did say that she learned a lot. She was spending too much time trying to do like a live course online. And this way it's more of an automated system to where you can scale your course to success and not spend as much time doing a live course or live teaching or anything like that, right? A live webinar and things like that. So for one hour, this was a one-hour webinar. I sat and I listened. And at the end, when she showed her price, which was like $3,000, and she talked about the seven modules and all this other kind of stuff. Not once did she say not once did she say how she made $10 million.
SPEAKER_01Yep. Sounds just like Ashley, and just like that girl in Florida I was talking about. That that's the scam in and of itself.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And so people were signing up. People, because in the chat box, you know, you can't, she was like reading the chats in the it in the chat box. You couldn't really like you couldn't really like chat while she was doing the webinar because it was private, only she would see the chat. And I was like, is this a scam? You know me. I'm just gonna come out and ask. I say, because I've been sitting here listening to you and I haven't gotten anything out of your webinar except that you're trying to sell your course on how to scale to success if you want to do it by selling courses. And so she never replied to my chat. So then I know. So then when she opened up the chat to where she can see people ask questions and see who signed up for her course, I I chatted her again. I was like, is there an itinerary so I can see what the course includes? Because I'm not gonna spend $3,000 and I don't know what I'm paying for.
SPEAKER_01Let me let me guess, no response.
SPEAKER_03No, she actually said if I click on the link to her course design.
SPEAKER_01Click on a link.
SPEAKER_03I see backwards, backwards, click on a link. I didn't do it, and so she said, you should see the itinerary. So what I did instead was I went to her website, right? So I went to her website in a whole separate tab while the webinar was still on, and I was listening to her, and then I clicked on how to sell her course on the website, and the price was completely different than what she was selling it for in the webinar. Gosh, more or less. Less. And then I was like, why is there a difference in a price? And then I kept digging to see if there was an itinerary that explained exactly what she was gonna teach you to scale to success, and it was just as vague as she was. Yeah, and I'm like, okay, all these people, because I know at least 10 to 15 people clicked like they bought her course or whatever while I was on the webinar. So that right there was thirty thousand dollars.
SPEAKER_0130 grand, maybe 45.
SPEAKER_03People really, she didn't teach us anything in the webinar. Why would you give a three thousand dollars for her course? So I had to laugh, and that brought me back to your episode last week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, alrighty.
SPEAKER_03So I just wanted to make you laugh.
SPEAKER_01It did. It's it's the course scam. Right. Well, I can't wait to hear what you have for us. What kind of greedy mofo do we get to talk about tonight?
Introducing The Hitman Scam
SPEAKER_03Well, the greedy mofo is a scam that's known as the hitman scam. Ooh. Have you heard about it? No. You haven't heard about the hitman scam? I don't think so.
SPEAKER_01I mean, other than Ashley last week who tried to hire a hitman.
SPEAKER_03Okay. So here's the hitman scam. I'll tell you about the person that got convicted for falling for this scam. But here's the here's the here's the genesis of the hitman scam. Okay. So it's a company somewhere, because they're all over, right?

SPEAKER_03And they use the dark web, right? And and I started laughing when I learned about this because it was an episode of The Rookie. And I want to say I saw it in an episode of something else. But it was an episode of The Rookie, and it was basically people that's on the dark web looking to make extra money, and they're being hired to go kill someone. Okay. Have you heard of that? Okay. So there's websites. So there's these websites that's on the dark web, right? And people go to them looking to hire hitmen. Okay. Right? Like mercenaries. So they pay, yeah. So they pay to have someone killed. And so they put up all the information like, okay, I want my my lovers, um, my lover's wife or husband killed or something like that, you know. So they'll they'll look for a hitmen that will do that, right? So because this is on the dark web, one red flag, you know, it's the dark web, people. People post on the dark web because it can't be traced, you know? So that that just gives you a big red flag saying anything on the dark web could be a scam. I'm sure there's a lot of legitimate sites on the dark web and they just don't want to be traced because they're mostly illegal, right? Killing somebody illegal.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Legitimate criminal enterprises, yeah.
SPEAKER_03So somebody did a twist on this, right?
Reverse Hitman Extortion Texts
SPEAKER_03So they they were getting information and they were sending out phishing and and spam calls and all this other kind of stuff, but they would get information from people, and then what they would do is they would text them and they would say, I was hired to kill you. This is the scam. I was hired to kill you. If you don't pay me five thousand dollars in two days, you will be dead.
SPEAKER_01So it's a reverse hitman. A reverse hitman.
SPEAKER_03So my gosh. So I was like, I when I was learning about this, I was like, that was very smart. That was a smart scam. But it's a scam. It's phishing. Yes. They're just sending text messages to people. Some of these people are real, some of these people, you know, they like really know they know information about them, but a lot of times it was very vague. So they would send these messages and it'd be like, I was hired to kill you. I don't want to kill you, but I've already been paid to kill you. So if you don't want me to kill you, pay me $5,000. You have 48 hours. If I don't hear from you in 48 hours, then I will follow through and kill you, right? So that's called the hitman death threat scam.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03And it's basically extortion, right? It's basically extortion. And people, these scammers, you know, and we don't know who the scammers are, but it's all these websites that can't be traced because they're on the dark web, and they're scamming people and sending emails and text messages claiming they've been hired to kill you.
SPEAKER_01It's like a variation of the romance scam, but just without romance and without violence.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01And without them really knowing, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Right. And so basically, I'm kind of like, who would fall for that? Who would want to pay somebody five thousand dollars just because they sent you an email or text message saying that I was hired to kill you? Would you fall for that?
SPEAKER_01My mother. My mother. Because she's afraid of everything. So she's like, I'll pay you, I'll pay you.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god. And this is recently. I mean, this is stuff that's like been happening like last year. Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_01So is there a is there like a real case that you have that made the news or or something?
SPEAKER_03Yep. So that's what I'm going to get into. Okay. There's actually two cases. I don't have a lot of information on one, but you may have heard about it. But I was kind of like, when I heard about this, of course, I'm doing my research, and I'm like, are people really stupid to hire hitmen on dark web? You know, I mean, it's it's on TV for God's sake. People know about it. And I go on the dark web. I go and use, you know, Tor and DuckDuckGo, and I use a VPN so nobody can trace my IP address. I do all of that when I'm looking at looking up information and researching things that may be suspect, right?
SPEAKER_01I was I was about to ask, why are you on the dark web?
SPEAKER_03Girl, I get so many ideas from being on the dark web. I know. I know that's why I'm on the dark web, and that's why I have a VPN, so I can't be traced back. Okay. So here's the actual case. And I'm just like the scammers are the greedy mofos, right? The scammers because they're just calling people, phishing, sending emails, setting up a website, trying to get information, and they're making you know lots of money because people are paying anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000 to hire a hitman. Okay? So they have these websites just like Hitman for Hire. And you can go to the website Hitman for Hire and hire a Hitman. So who's ever behind that are really greedy mofos. Okay? So then somebody decides, well, I'm gonna just start fishing, well, and set up a website, and I'm gonna just start contacting people and tell people that I was hired to kill them, and then have them pay me not to kill them. So that's what they're doing. Maybe they're still doing it for information that they got from someone hiring a hitman, but they're basically just contacting people they don't know or strangers because they can get phone numbers and emails and all this other kind of stuff, you know, by fishing and doing all kinds of stuff,
Nevada Dark Web Murder For Hire
SPEAKER_03right? So in 2023, okay, Christy Lynn Falcons, she lived in Fallon, Nevada. Okay, she was sentenced to five years in federal prison for attempting to hire a hitman on the dark web to murder her ex-husband.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03Okay. The only reason she got caught, okay, because the website that she used was a scam. Meaning the murder never took place. Okay. So she paid the website, right, five thousand dollars, which was in basic she did it in Bitcoin, but it was basically worth $5,000 at the time. And the website that she was on was called Besa Mafia. B as in boy, ESA Mafia. Okay, okay. So by contacting them on the website, she gave them all the information about her ex-husband's home address. Well, he's her ex-husband now, at the time he was her husband. Oh, and she wanted to kill him because she. Wait a minute. Let me, I might be getting this confused with someone. No, wait a minute. So, what happened was she wanted to kill her lover's wife. She was having an affair. She wanted to kill her husband, who's now her ex-husband, but at the same time, she wanted to kill her lover's wife.
SPEAKER_01Okay, got it. Got it. Okay. She wanted to eliminate all competition.
SPEAKER_03The only reason she wanted to kill her ex-husband was because he had a large life insurance policy.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_03She didn't know how long it was going to take to kill him, so she couldn't wait. So then she decided, well, maybe I should hire these people to kill my boyfriend lover's wife so that he can be free in whatever way. It's it was a convoluted mess. Okay.
SPEAKER_01And they can live happily ever after with both of the other people gone.
SPEAKER_03So she basically provided all the information to the website that she was using to hire the hitman. And so she was giving them her husband's home address, what kind of car he drove, what his work schedule was like, how she wanted the murder to look like an accident or a mugging gone wrong so she could pay the life insurance and the retirement benefits.
SPEAKER_00Got it.
SPEAKER_03Oh okay. So basically, he was never killed because the website was a fraudulent website. They just took the money from everybody that hired them to, you know, hired a hitman, and they never intended to carry out any of the murders, basically.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01So did they also reach out and exploit him for money saying, We've been hired to kill you, give us five thousand dollars so we don't go through with it.
SPEAKER_03So did they get double payment or um that wasn't made clear because in researching the hitman scam, there was a couple of scams, and these were like scams because they went to the dark web and they went to the hitman websites to hire somebody to kill somebody. The other one was more where they were contact people, and they weren't hired to be a hitman or kill somebody, but they would tell everybody I was hired to kill you, so I don't want to kill you. Or if you don't want me to kill you, then pay me $5,000. Sometimes they would say $10,000, sometimes more. On the hitman website, the scam came in where none of these sites were legit. So people are paying you thinking that they're hiring a hitman, but they really didn't because you just take the money and run, and the person they want you to kill was never killed.
SPEAKER_01And they're anonymous because it's a dark web and they're protected and layered and layered and layered.
SPEAKER_03Right. So there was basically two types of hitman scams. Right. Okay.
SPEAKER_01So how did Christy Lynn get caught? How do we know her name?
SPEAKER_03She got caught because she complained that she her husband was never killed. Killed and the lover's ex-wife was never killed, and she was trying to get her money back from the fake website, and that's how she got caught.
SPEAKER_01She was stupid. Did she go to the police and like say, hey, these people didn't pay me for not killing no reporting the website for taking her money? Oh my. Yes.
SPEAKER_03Just like the guy, just like the guy, just like the guy with the um the guy that did the whole scam and he reported the people because he didn't get paid his share. That was the episode, the last episode out there. Oh, yeah, yeah. So she was pissed because she paid the money and nobody murdered her husband, and she was trying to get her money back. Well, first of all, it's the dark web. They can't trace that. You paid $5,000 in Bitcoin that was worth, you know, Bitcoin.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god.
SPEAKER_03And you're trying to get your money back, and she got caught.
SPEAKER_01So poor Christy Lynn. Um, where is she now? She's in jail. Please tell me she's in jail. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
SPEAKER_03So um she was committed to five years in prison because it was a federal crime. It was interstate commerce or whatever, right?
SPEAKER_01Oh, because of online.
SPEAKER_03And for the commission of the murder for hire. And that was in July 2023, and so it's only 2026. So she has two more years in prison, and then she's gonna get three years of supervised release. I guess they don't want her to try to get another hitman.
SPEAKER_01Well, she oh my gosh, dear police officer, please arrest this anonymous person for not killing my husband that I paid to have unalived. What an idiot.
SPEAKER_03Yep. And it's funny because there's so many stories out there that, and we we all know, you know, people want to get rid of their husband, spouse, whatever somebody, you know. And there's so many stories out there about people hiring hitmen, and most of them find them on the dark web. Well, here's a good one for you.
Ghost Adventures Murder Plot
SPEAKER_03This woman didn't go to the dark web to hire him. Okay. Okay. Her husband was the host of Ghost Adventures.
SPEAKER_01Wait.
SPEAKER_03You heard about this?
SPEAKER_01Sounds familiar. I think I I'm not sure. I'm not sure, but I think so. Okay, go on, go on.
SPEAKER_03So, Aaron Goodwin, who's on the Discovery show Ghost Adventures, well, his wife Victoria conspired with somebody in prison to hire a hitman for a how did she meet someone in prison to do this? 10 pounds? She was gonna pay him eleven thousand five hundred and fifteen dollars. Okay, now that's a pretty specific number. Where she came up with that, I don't know. How did she find somebody in prison? I don't know. Why does she want to kill her husband, Aaron? I don't know. Okay, but money or she had a lover. Yeah, but well, he was he was making money because he was the host of that popular show, Ghost Adventures.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she wanted his money.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's that's pretty stupid because when she killed him, he wouldn't be making the show anymore, so the money would disappear.
SPEAKER_01Well, he may have had a life insurance, maybe he had an estate, maybe he had money in the bank that she who knows.
SPEAKER_03Maybe she allegedly, allegedly, the reason she wanted to kill him is because they were having problems in their marriage, and he would not uh give her a divorce.
SPEAKER_02Well, there you go.
SPEAKER_03How she got to somebody in prison. Now the inmate in prison was a convicted murderer. Okay, his name was Grant. His name was Grant Amato. And you want to know how she got caught?
SPEAKER_01He turned around?
SPEAKER_03No, she got caught to knock out the sentence. She got caught because they used her phone. Wait a minute, hang on. They because the authorities uncovered text messages where Victoria provided all the information about her husband, um, his his car and a photograph photograph to facilitate the murder. But the phone was discovered as contraband in prison by the prison guards. So once the prison guard found the phone, because you're not supposed to have a phone, right?
SPEAKER_00Right, right.
SPEAKER_03But once the prison guards found the phone and went through the text messages and everything, they saw the text messages between the prisoner and Aaron's wife.
SPEAKER_01That's how she got please tell me, please, please, please tell me that she used her own cell phone to communicate and not a burner. I love dumb, dumb, dumb, greedy mofos or just dumb mofos. If you use your own phone, she did use her own cell phone.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_00That's so funny.
SPEAKER_03She was dumb. So where is she? She was dumb. Yeah, but even if she didn't use her own cell phone, when they looked at the text messages and stuff on the phone that from the prisoner, she had all the information there. Husband's name, yeah.
SPEAKER_00They would have found her. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03They would have found her anyway.
SPEAKER_01Probably said, my husband.
SPEAKER_03They would have found her. So she's corresponding with the prisoner. And I'm kind of like, out of all the people in prison that committed murder, how did she get this one? And it never said how she got this guy, Aaron Goodwin.
SPEAKER_01Like how, you know, like I said, it's all who you know. Oh uh, you know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It's it's it's like people are so stupid. People, I mean, people, well, she's greedy because she wanted a divorce, and so I guess she figured she'd just kill him instead. Um, yeah, but at the same time, I'm just kind of like I'm asking all these questions. Well, how did she pick this guy in prison? How did she know to get in contact with this guy? You know, how did she post something on one of these hitman websites and the guy in prison saw it and contacted her? Or they call it crazy. I don't know how she planned it.
SPEAKER_01Maybe this hitman who's in prison has an agent, and his agent saw the post and contacted him. Um, I'm joking. I'm joking, but you know, everybody knows how she found everything, you know?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, I know how she found him. Oh, how? This is interesting because I I I I kind of learned about this too. Okay. So in 2024, right, there was some crime true crime docuseries called Control Alt Desire. Have you heard about that one?
SPEAKER_01Uh I have not, but I will look that up.
SPEAKER_03I know me too. So it was a docuseries, and it basically was focused on a case about Grant Amato, who was serving life sentence in Florida for the murder of his parents and brother. And he killed them. Yeah. So and he killed them because they his father kicked him out of the family home.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow. So she saw this docuseries and reached out to him.
SPEAKER_03Reached out to him via Facebook. She contacted him via Facebook, right?
SPEAKER_01You can have Facebook when you're in prison.
SPEAKER_03Well, they do have computers in prison. Jeez. Yeah. And so then the two of them began talking. And because he had a cell phone in prison, supposedly they bonded and they sent messages about how they were in love. Oh my. And she was telling him about her marriage and the problems in her marriage to Aaron. And she had fantasies of being with him, but Aaron would not agree to the divorce.
SPEAKER_01Oh, she's whack. Uh doodle.
SPEAKER_03Yep, yep. So then her and Amado, the prisoner, started discussing the possibility of hiring a hitman to kill Aaron. And so he was the intermediary with the potential hitman. And she asked him at some point, Am I a bad person for wanting to kill my husband?
SPEAKER_01And how did he answer that?
SPEAKER_03Oh, it doesn't say. So the plan, yeah, the plan was to kill Aaron, the host of the Ghost Adventures show, while he was away filming in California in October of 2024. So Victoria gave the prisoner all of his information about where he's located and all this other kind of stuff. The prisoner passed it along to someone telling the hit man, he's asleep right now in the hotel room. I need to know what's going on. Can I get an update? Have you killed him? And that basically was the plot.
SPEAKER_01So who turned them in? Oh, oh, the um the security guard or the the guard is on the phone. Okay, okay. Wow.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Goodness gracious, these people. There's a lot of people that we're hitting in. Yeah. And some of this may not be greedy for money, they just may want out of the relationship. So that's that's greed in another fashion. That's just pure selfishness. And um I mean, why the guy wouldn't give her the divorce? I mean, that's that's weird too. If if if she wants out and he won't give it to her, I mean, that's kind of weird. It's like your marriage is over anyway, if one of you wants out. So it makes you wonder why he wouldn't give it to her. But um but yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's crazy. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_01She could have just smiled and um served him, and I mean, it's not like the 1950s where you can't just get a divorce, you know. It's it's not like that anymore. Yeah. Anybody can just really get a divorce, I think. Maybe some states have contested versus uncontested, but I I don't know. That's yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, what caught my attention was that they said that this scam has been around for a while, but it's making a it's resurfacing again. So it's making so well, they say it's been uh it's been active for over a decade. It comes around regularly with different variations, and in 2025, they just started using increased intimidation tactics to coerce their victims.
What To Do If Targeted
SPEAKER_03So what would you do if you're targeted and you get one of these calls? Okay, don't reply because if you reply, you're basically telling the scammers that your account is active and it just makes you a target for continued harassment.
SPEAKER_01And that goes with any scam, any unsolicited text message. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um delete and block the sender. Yeah. You know, delete the message immediately. And they say too, if you do get contacted, report it to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center or your local law enforcement. And they say, never send money, gift card, gift cards, or cryptocurrency to these people. Plain and simple.
SPEAKER_01And I bet I know why the resurgence is happening. It's because of crypto, it's more anonymous than you know anything else. Crypto is so anonymous. So that's probably part of the uh resurgence and why it's more successful lately.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And and some of the things that you just gotta be aware of, I mean, because first of all, a hitman's not well, a real hitman. If you're like a hired assassin and you're a high-value target or something, that's different, right? But if you're some Joe Schmo, just living your life, not worried about anything, yeah, you know, if somebody called you and said, Hey, I was hired to kill you, would you really believe them?
SPEAKER_01I would be like, Who is it? Um and I would like you want any money from me, you better tell me who it is.
SPEAKER_03Yep, yep. So basically, you know, if you if if you do answer the phone, um scammers claim to be monitoring you and demand thousands of dollars, often threatening you, harm, or your family if you contact the police. Well, the minute they're telling you not to contact the police, I mean, that right there is a scam. Because if somebody's trying to kill me, I want police surveillance and protection. I hire a bodyguard, right?
