Breaking up your energetic dog's exercise into multiple shorter walks throughout the day works better than one long walk because it addresses their natural energy cycles. Young and high-energy dogs experience multiple bursts of energy daily, making a single walk insufficient for maintaining balanced behavior.

Speaker 1:

If you have a young dog or dog with a lot of energy, one of the best things that you can do is break up their walks into multiple shorter walks instead of relying on one long one. And here's why Dogs, especially younger ones, don't just have one burst of energy a day. Younger ones don't just have one burst of energy a day. Their energy flows in cycles. They wake up with energy, burn a little off, rest and then boom, the energy builds right back up again. It's completely normal. It's how they're wired. If you only take them on one long walk in the morning, it might drain them for a little bit, but by the afternoon or evening that energy has built right back up. And if it doesn't have a healthy outlet, that's when we start to experience the chewing, the barking, just the general chaos. By giving your dog three shorter walks maybe one in the morning, one midday and one in the evening three shorter walks maybe one in the morning, one midday and one in the evening you're giving them multiple opportunities to move their bodies, to explore their environment and to reset their brain throughout the day.

Speaker 1:

It's not just about physical exercise either. Every time you take them outside they're sniffing, problem solving, experiencing little mental challenges and that mental stimulation is just as important, maybe even more important than pure physical exercise. And here's the bonus Shorter walks are easier on you too. You don't have to carve out a huge chunk of time once a day. You can fit in a quick 10 to 15 minutes here, another 10 minutes there and another in the evening. It's way more manageable and it keeps your dog's needs balanced across the whole day, not just front loaded at one time. Plus, dogs thrive on structure. Knowing that they're going to have multiple chances to get out and move helps reduce frustration and makes the whole day a little calmer for both of you. So if you've got a younger dog bouncing off the walls or high energy dog that never seems to settle, try switching to three shorter walks a day instead of just one long one. It can make a huge difference in their behavior, their focus and even their relationship with you.
