Geopardy 4 PT 2: Survival Trivia Face-Off
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What happens when survival experts face off in a high-stakes trivia battle? Pure chaos and surprising revelations about what they do—and don't—know about survival.
In this special game show episode, hosts Erik, TJ, and Alex compete in "Geopardy," a survival-themed trivia challenge spanning six categories: self-defense, camping, survival, first aid, navigation, and trivia about their own podcast. The competitive tension builds as they buzz in to tackle questions ranging from basic survival techniques to obscure wilderness knowledge.
Despite Erik feeling under the weather on his birthday, the competition heats up with plenty of good-natured trash talk. TJ demonstrates quick reflexes on the buzzer while Erik employs a more strategic approach, avoiding questions he's unsure about. Their contrasting styles lead to heated debates over technicalities, like whether a "solar still" is the same as "distillation" (it's not, according to Alex).
The game reveals fascinating survival facts throughout: tilting your head forward during nosebleeds prevents choking, the edible inner bark of pine trees provides emergency calories, and when facing multiple attackers, creating distance and escaping should always be your primary goal. Navigation questions highlight the practical "watch method" for finding direction with an analog timepiece and the reliability of Polaris for locating north.
By the final question—identifying Dawn of the Dead as humanity's greatest defense in a zombie apocalypse where the undead are allergic to irony—Erik narrowly claims victory despite TJ answering more questions correctly. The episode perfectly balances educational content with the hosts' competitive spirit and humor that fans have come to love.

Speaker 2I don't even know, I'm just gonna sit here laughing.
Speaker 1These six categories are self-defense, camping, survival.
Speaker 2Okay, first aid. They seem a little more specific, but also broad Navigation.

Speaker 2None of these are good for me. Oh man, let's go. Will you survive the podcast for 800?
Speaker 1In their Bird Box episode, the host suggests this mental condition might improve survival odds.
Speaker 3TJ. What is schizophrenia?
Speaker 2I got it, I got it.
Speaker 3Oh, no, no, no, fuck, I got it. I got it. I got it, eric. What is insanity. Can I buzz in again? Can I buzz in?
Speaker 1again, I can't. I don't know how to do that. It's fine, just get this.
Speaker 3Write down a point for me, if I get it right.
Speaker 1No, please, you both got it, but it's Fuck.
Speaker 3I was going to say that.
Speaker 1Bipolar disorder. It would have to be in order for it to be. What do you call?
Speaker 2it. I really don't remember any of these conversations. I looked over at the chat, dang.

Speaker 3It's all of our blind listeners. It's all in your head, dude.
Speaker 1You just got to fucking lock in and see, bro, you're slacking, let's go.
Speaker 3Let's go camping for 2000,. Alex.
Speaker 1Camping 2000. Camping 2000 in cold weather camping. This passive system can be built using rocks, a trench and reflective surfaces to retain and radiate heat overnight without a fire.
Speaker 2Tj I don't even care if you take a while on this one.
Speaker 3I don't know I legit want to die. I don't know what this is. Why'd you buzz in? I ain't got shit. What is this Rocket?
Speaker 1heater. It is thermal heat reflector trench.
Speaker 2What side of TikTok are you on?
Speaker 3Dude, welcome back to trench.
Speaker 1We've talked about most of these things. We've never talked about that.
Speaker 2Yes, we have.
Speaker 1Because do you know who's done it? Luke from the Outdoor Boys.
Speaker 2Yeah, that does not mean we've talked about it on this podcast.
Speaker 1You might have talked about it on a live.
Speaker 2We have not talked about it on the podcast.
Speaker 1We've talked about Luke from the Outdoor Boys. I will stand on my ten toes on this one. We've talked about Luke. We've talked about Luke. We did a whole episode of the Bird Box that you don't remember and you're going to sit here and argue with me about what we've talked about. The.
Speaker 2Bird Box episode. I remember being specifically tired. We were all specifically tired that episode. It was a bad episode.
Speaker 1But I still remember it.
Speaker 2We all know. Now, just because it was on Luke from the Outdoor Boys does not mean that we talked about it on this podcast. What we talked about was when he built his little. Uh, he dug into the snow and built like his little like igloo apartment thing in like under like like seven feet of snow.
Speaker 1We talked about that. We talked about that. We talked about when he buried the coals in the sand and laid on top of I'm not going to go down this hill.
Speaker 2I actually don't know top of the sand.
Speaker 1I'm not going to die on this hill. I actually don't know. Okay.
Speaker 2Well, it's your turn now.
Speaker 1First, aid for 1,200. First aid for 1,200.
Speaker 2During a nosebleed, tilt your head in this direction to prevent choking, eric, oh Okay, I feel like this is going to be wrong, but this is like what you're always told what is back? No, yeah, it's's forward, isn't it?
Speaker 1tj what is forward, and that is correct.
Speaker 3If you tilt your head back it goes to your throat it goes into your throat, yeah I know, and I knew that as I was saying it, but I was like but that's what people always tilt their head back for some like that's what you're always told to do, that you do want it to fall out you do want it to fall out, because the clot will come out and it will uh it bleeding. All right, tj, it is now your turn. So let's go. Survival for 2000,. Alex Survival 2000.
Speaker 1This edible part of a pine tree can provide calories in a survival situation. Tj.
Speaker 3What is the sap?
Speaker 2That's what I was going to say, that is not what we're looking for, eric.
Speaker 1What is the bark? No, what I was going to say, that is not what we're looking for, eric. What is the bark?
Speaker 3No, can I get a bonus point? It's underneath the bark.
Speaker 1It's the inner bark, okay.
Speaker 2Really I say the bark, no, but there's an inner bark.
Speaker 3No, it's the inner bark. It's completely different.
Speaker 1You look at a pine tree and you see the bark.
Speaker 3That not what's edible. You have to get under that fun fact, guys anything's edible if you chew it hard enough. If you take pine needles or actually not pine needles, if you take spruce needles you chuck them inside of a bottle with some sugar, seal that bottle, let it sit for a couple days. You now have some soda and it's nice and refreshing there should be some water in there too, right yeah, water in there yeah, yeah, water but uh, you take that inner bark and you can boil it, you can fry it, you can grill it, open, heat it.
Speaker 1You know, open heat, fire, roast it, that's the word I was looking for. And it's not terrible, especially when you're starving. It'll be delectable. All right, that must be Eric's turn.
Speaker 2Self-defense for 800.
Speaker 1Self-defense for 800. I'm a pro at this. This strike targets a vulnerable area and is often taught in beginner self-defense classes.
Speaker 2Eric, a nut shot. What?
Speaker 3is a nut shot. Nah, he already said nut shot. He didn't say what is.
Speaker 1No, it's not a nut shot, okay, but I feel like that is a correct answer. It could be TJ.
Speaker 3What is a liver shot? Okay, but I feel like that is a correct answer. It could be TJ. What is a liver shot.
Speaker 2I have another answer. That's what I was going to say. No, no, it's the palm heel strike. Oh, that Okay, I think a nut strike is way more effective.
Speaker 1It's groin strike.
Speaker 2Yeah, that's way more effective.
Speaker 1All right, so Eric. Wait effective it, yeah, all right. So, uh, eric, wait, that's tj, tj, let's go. Survival for 1600, alex. Survival for 1600. This method uses heat and condensation to purify water eric, what is a solar?

Speaker 3Alex, I was, you know.
Speaker 2I was going to say distillation, I know you were it's distillation.
Speaker 1It's literally the same thing that you said last time.
Speaker 2Eric, you are, you are. So how, how, how, why would you do that? I felt bad for you. Why would you do that?
Speaker 1You could have got that.
Speaker 2All of these things are very educational and everybody needs to know it, you are no different than my school using double negatives. Which one of these is not true? A dog doesn't do this. What the fuck is that?
Speaker 1That's bullshit. That is not what I'm doing.
Speaker 2That's repeating the same question is not no using double negatives distractible, taught us that this is inappropriate. This is wrong, not inappropriate when you're trying to teach.
Speaker 1This is bad.

Speaker 3He could have got that 100%.
Speaker 1He could have got that TJ Because it was method. It's your go.
Speaker 3Eric, if you would have just said distillation or still.
Speaker 2That is so stupid. It's what it does. That's what a solar still does.
Speaker 1It does do distillation, but the method is not solar still.
Speaker 2How else do you do it?
Speaker 3The full thing is not solar. Still, how else do you do it? The full thing is a solar distiller.
Speaker 1It's like saying pasteurization is the same thing as cooking. They're not the same thing. How else do you do it? How else, yeah, you get to the point of pasteurization, but there are many ways. How else do you do it? There are many ways to pasteurize something. All right, tj, pick your category.

Speaker 2It's how planes decide.
Speaker 1That's exactly right, and ships yeah.
Speaker 2Because they were taking into account the curvature of the Earth. Maybe you should have. I literally said I don't know what it's called.

Speaker 1That is incorrect, TJ. Would you like to try?
Speaker 2I am not.
Speaker 3CPR certified.
Speaker 2Technically, crpr is better than CPR, and CRPR doesn't involve any breaths Because studies showed that it's better to keep the blood pumping rather than fill the lungs during CPR.
Speaker 3So it's better to not take the time. What is 30 to 2?
Speaker 1You timed out before you got the answer in. No, I said it before it popped up, but you didn't even give me any time to hit the button, so you ran out of time.

Speaker 3It is the three hosts of the most popular survival podcast because he said alex tj and eric okay also, can we talk about how he spelled my name wrong?
Speaker 2I did not, it was with a, c?
Speaker 1I did not. How Are you kidding me? I don't even know how that would be possible.
Speaker 3Maybe because your name is spelled stupid Eric.
Speaker 1I fucking copy and pasted it, eric. I don't know, does this guy fucking spell it with a C? You do what? Because the AI does it. He doesn't correct the AI. I got it from Buzzsprout.

Speaker 1Separate them.
Speaker 2No. Run away was going to be my other one. Give me an answer. He said what is he said it? Yeah, I already said it.
Speaker 1No, so it is Run away. It is create distance and escape.
Speaker 2Yeah, I thought about it, you don't fight multiple attackers. Yeah, I thought about it, you don't fight multiple attackers. This ain't no movie, yeah, but if you can't, you can't like. I assume you couldn't run away.
Speaker 1Create space and escape. That's your primary objective, all right.
Speaker 2What if I'm Jackie Chan from the Crowded Kid?
Speaker 1Well then, beat them all up. Why do you have multiple attackers? What are you doing wrong?
Speaker 2Even he had multiple attackers, he just beat them all up. Okay, eric, you can pick, let's go. Self-defense 1600.
Speaker 1Self-defense 1600. This technique helps you escape an attacker's grip by targeting sensitive areas. Tj Fuck.
Speaker 2You should have let me go first. I would have got the dumb answer out of the way.
Speaker 1You guys are both going to be pissed when you see how easy the answer actually is. What is?
Speaker 3the fucking palm shit. That's my purse.
Speaker 2I don't know you eric, what is a nut shot?
Speaker 1okay, no neither one of those pressure point manipulation do you have a dick?
Speaker 2that's a pressure point.
Speaker 1It's pretty sensitive down there okay, but there are more than just one pressure point I don't know of any other one that's more sensitive than that.

Speaker 1You know, I don't, I don't know like the right wording, but that, that's, it's close. But you didn't encompass enough of the, enough of the principle. You got nothing I have no idea and what is the leave no trace principle? I said leave. Okay, leave no trace exactly.
Speaker 3So you leave with more than you came. No, no trace.

Speaker 3and methods I like methods tj um, I'm gonna sit here let my brain cook for a second. What is the shadow top method?
Speaker 1No, what is the watch method?
Speaker 2These are stupid.
Speaker 1It's actually very, very helpful, very important. If you have an analog watch like I'm wearing the kind with hands it doesn't work with digital watch. What you do is you take the hour hand. It has to be accurately set, at least to the hour. We want to be as close to accurate as possible. You take the hour hand, you point it to the sun. We want to be as close to accurate as possible. You take the hour hand, you point it to the sun. You hold it level. You point the hour hand towards the sun. You draw an imaginary line through 12 o'clock. Wherever the sun is, you draw an imaginary line through 12 o'clock. Halfway in between is south. It's fascinating, the watch method.
Speaker 3Look it up. If you just know which hemisphere you're in and you know where the sun rises, you can pretty easily figure out. Yeah.
Speaker 2That's what I do. I just think of the Red Hot Chili Peppers song the sun may rise in the east. At least it settles on a final location.
Speaker 1Okay, pick your category.
Speaker 2Yeah, navigation for 1200.

Speaker 2Yeah, the fucking middle. I don't know, tj, you got that correct.

Speaker 1I gave it to him man because I got three weeks for a second. He, he, yeah, he said what is.
Speaker 2I thought it was a trick question.
Speaker 1It was, but it wasn't. Because it says according to the rule of threes, you could survive this many days without water.
Speaker 2Yeah, because then I was like, oh, three weeks Well, oh, is he trying to trick me up Like 21 days. But then, as I was saying, I was like wait a minute, you can't last that long without water. Okay, go ahead and pick what is not as what is. What is self-defense for 400? It's the end of the day, 400, self-defense.
Speaker 1This basic principle of self-defense involves staying alert to your surroundings. Buzzer's active TJ.
Speaker 3What is looking both ways before you cross?
Speaker 2the street? No, I like that though. Okay, eric, what is staying vigilant?
Speaker 1I can accept that it is what is situational awareness.
Speaker 3You're getting way lax with these. Okay, I'm just saying Are you kidding me? Started out, so hold on hold on.
Speaker 2You had vigilance.
Speaker 1You had situational awareness. Stay vigilant is a way I would say if I wanted to tell you to keep your situational awareness up. We all are out, it's like roll or out on patrol, and I'm sorry about that. We're all out on patrol and we're we're gonna split up to to cover a ground. I'm gonna look to you and say stay vigilant. I'm not gonna say, stay situationally aware, let's just say situational awareness.
Speaker 2This was on act situational awareness, the show.
Speaker 3Oh so what's the show with it's?
Speaker 2animated with the talking dog and the fucking mystery.
Speaker 3If it was an ass, I don't know it was.

Speaker 3I'm doing this on my phone. It's a touch screen. I can only tap a certain speed. What is a s'more, Alex?
Speaker 1How can you have s'more of something you haven't had any of? I get that reference, but that is correct.
Speaker 2Ha ha ha, knee slapper.
Speaker 3That was a good joke, Eric, and I don't appreciate your tone with our host.
Speaker 1I don't appreciate your tone with our host. I don't appreciate your tone with your host either.
Speaker 2He is getting so many easy answers and so many, and then he complains.
Speaker 3Look at the fucking scoreboard. You insolent child. You give me a fucking easy one and he's just getting all the easy ones.
Speaker 1He's bitching when he's winning TJ. I'm sorry, yeah, no, you got it right pick your next category. First date for 400 Alex this acronym stands for the emergency technique combining chest compressions and rescue breaths TJ this is how I feel when, I play this damn game against.
Speaker 2Eric 50.5 milliseconds.
Speaker 1Are we kidding, he usually has like.
Speaker 3What is CPR? What is CPR? What is CPR it?
Speaker 1is correct. Y'all don't even know about CRPR and TJ. Navigation for 400 is your pick. This tool uses Earth's magnetic field to help you find direction.
Speaker 3What is a compass, Alex?
Speaker 1That is correct, and that concludes round two. I think we've gone way over, so there's no need for a final.
Speaker 3There's definitely a need for it. I can cut this so well. We can do two parts we can do two parts.
Speaker 1All right, let's do final Jeopardy. What Final wager round the category is. I'm just going to say this right now to both of you you are going to fucking hate me for this category name and I'm going going to say this right now to both of you you are going to fucking hate me for this category name and I'm going to love it. The more pissed off this category makes you, the happier I will be. I'm not going to be pissed off.
Speaker 2I'm going to love it survive the tangent oh, I'm going to hate this one that is our category.
Speaker 3Eric wager, all of it, you guys.
Speaker 2Yeah, I was, I, yeah, you guys, we literally have nothing to wager. I love it For a score update. Tj is at negative 12,400, and I'm at negative 10,800. Tj, you got to submit.
Speaker 1Okay, the clue. In a hypothetical apocalypse where zombies are allergic to irony, this film, often debated for its tone, pacing and logic, would be considered humanity's greatest defense. And if you want me to read it again, I will In a hypothetical apocalypse where zombies are allergic to irony, this film, often debated for its tone, pacing and logic, would be considered humanity's greatest defense. Tj's answer the cured. He wagered 1000 and he is incorrect.
Speaker 2I'm not correct either.
Speaker 1Eric.
Speaker 2Sean of the Dead.
Speaker 1He wagered 1,000. And he was incorrect. What is Dawn of the Dead?
Speaker 2Okay.
Self-Defense Questions Challenge Hosts
Speaker 1Dawn of the Dead being probably one of the most ironic films. Not just for my what's going to sound like a completely narcissistic reason because I'm making it all about me, but Dawn of the Dead is very it's a paradox Number one, I think fast. Zombies are ordinarily very dumb. It's very poorly played, but I love the way that Dawn of the Dead 2004 utilized them. But it is filled with irony. The fact that George A Romero wrote that film and portrayed the mall and the zombies as a I don't want to say an ode to consumerism, but I hope you'll understand me when I do say that it.
Speaker 1In the 2004 writing of it, they had no intention of keeping that theme going. It was basically you took the consumerism and turned it into a fortress with everything we need you, everything light-hearted about it, where they were playing games and having sex and uh going up on the roof and playing celebrity sniper with the uh gun shop owner across the way and everything was was I'm gonna. I'm gonna butcher this. Everything was ironically unironic. They didn't mean to do it. There was no intent with their writing of it and it made it the most ironic film ever.
Speaker 2I don't know if I would describe it that way, but I won, so I don't care, it is.
Speaker 1Eric, with a grand total of $11,800 in the negative, is the winner.
Speaker 3Okay, but did he win that episode though.
Speaker 1He barely beat out TJ.
Speaker 2That is a good question. Actually, that doesn't necessarily mean I won the episode.
Speaker 3Which was $13,400 I definitely got more right than him. It's just that Shit was different amounts of money.
Speaker 1I do take into consideration that TJ did get More answers correct. He wagered a lot more. He went for all the big ticket items. So did I. He went for almost every one of them. We both went for all the big, big ticket items. So did I.
Speaker 2He went for almost every one of them we both went for all the high ticket items before we went for the lower ones.
Speaker 3You you like halfway through, gave up on the thousands and I came back strong with the two thousands you did I just didn't.
Speaker 2We both, we both avoided the 1000 for that one fucking topic yeah, you both did.
Speaker 1but then beyond that, Eric has been a grumpy Gus. I take into account that he's a little sicky-poo, but it is his birthday and I'm a little ashamed that he hasn't rallied and gone hard and just said fuck it, I'm gonna try till I die.
Speaker 2I am sick and I am here, aren't I? I'm not a fan.
Speaker 1I'm not a fan of how this is going. You've been a grumpy Gus Been talking smack on my game boards. Put a lot of work into this, jerk.
Speaker 3My feelings are hurt. You did more rounds than I fucking did.
Speaker 1And I went searching through all of our transcripts, looking up shit, making sure that I was getting it right. But I do want to tell you guys something that I found very cool about this. Do you know that AI, ai, co-host, ai, uh, duck ai and uh, what's the other one? What's the other one? Chat, gpt, all know who will you survive?
Speaker 2the podcast is that's cool, it's very cool. Yeah, that's neato I was like I.
Speaker 1I did several searches. Um co-host ai got several things wrong, but um duck, ai and Grok were almost dead on accurate. I was able to double check everything. All three of them got one thing wrong. On the question that I was asking about the Bird Box episode, it said that we debated that OCD was a valid immunity against the monsters.
Speaker 3Yeah, we were talking about it. We did talk about it. We talked about OCD was a valid immunity against the monsters. We did talk about OCD, we talked about OCD.
Speaker 1but all it did was open up the conversation.
Speaker 3Yeah, that was what we used it, for I would have got that fucking question right if I thought about it more.
Speaker 1So I was like wait a minute. So when I saw that, I was like no, that's not right. I went back and I looked at it. It I searched the transcript and I found what we talked about, how we talked about.
Speaker 3I was like look at this fucking asshole.
Speaker 1I was like oh yeah, we did talk about fucking bipolar more however, for reasons that I have listed, and because it's his birthday, I am giving the victory to co-host Eric. If you switched it to TJ, that would have been very funny.
Speaker 2I am giving the victory to co-host Eric. If you switched it to TJ, that would have been very funny.
Speaker 1Because it's his birthday. I'm giving his gift to TJ.
Speaker 2There you go Winner speech. Well, my winner speech. This is official, right, you can't take it back. Can't take it back, and it's not even close, so there's no point in TJ giving three points. Well, my winner speech. This is official, right, you can't take it back. Can't take it back, okay, well with that being said and it's not even close.
Speaker 1so there's no point in TJ giving three points.
Speaker 2I was going to say, the only reason that I have a higher score than TJ is because I didn't answer the questions that I didn't know, and I'm pretty sure TJ just took a stab at every single one of them. So every time he got them wrong he would lose points and I would just not answer a lot of them, and so I avoided losing the points, which was kind of a strategic thing. But also, yeah, it's true, yeah, so that's why I didn't want to say anything earlier, because I didn't want to influence your decision. Gotcha, gotcha. But yeah, good job, tj.
Speaker 3I mean, yeah, I did way better than you Loser speech. I mean I did better than Eric. He is a little sniffly crybaby because he's sick on his birthday. He was bitching the entire time. Oh, TJ's winning. I wasn't even winning the entire time.
Speaker 2I didn't say you were winning, you were literally bitching at me.
Speaker 3The whole fucking episode. You're being a little negative, nancy, and it's your birthday and you shouldn't be all negative like that. It's gonna make you age like your father well, I'm sick, so I can already see the hairline receding that's literally not true.
Speaker 2We don't have the same hair at all.
Speaker 3It's so sad You're going to be. Look, we're going to have two bald hosts.
Speaker 2He literally has no hair.
Speaker 3We're going to have two bald hosts and it's going to be so sad.
Speaker 2Look, and I'm going to be sitting here with my luscious locks. I'm bald on purpose.
