Will You Survive "28 Years Later": Virus, Alphas, And A Fractured Island Society
The Rage virus didn’t just come back. It learned how to live with scarcity, built a pecking order, and forced an island of survivors to build a life between tides. We break down 28 Years Later through the lens of survival logic: what the infection still does in seconds, what’s changed about feeding and endurance, and how the “alpha” signals coordination instead of magic powers. The world beyond the water is humming again, but the UK quarantine reshapes everything—culture, rumor, and the rules parents invent to keep kids brave.
We get granular about the island’s design: a causeway that dictates risk windows, low-tech weapons that make sense once supply chains vanish, and details like that deer head to show strategy among the infected. The night cinematography deserves credit too—clear, readable, and tense without hiding action—and the iPhone-with-rigs production choice proves intention beats gear when you light and plan well. Character stakes cut deep: Spike’s faith in his father, a mother’s illness that tests mercy and denial, and a party sequence that cranks social anxiety into genuine threat. The “zombie baby” scene splits the table; we weigh the doctor’s placenta line as plausible biology and a rare moment of agency surfacing inside infection, which complicates the franchise’s kill-or-be-killed calculus.
And then there’s that ending. Acrobatic rescuers in color-blocked tracksuits, long poles, and cult signals flip the tone from austere to operatic in minutes. We argue whether it’s a misstep or a daring setup for a sequel that pits organized infected against organized zealots. Along the way we touch the Paris tease from Weeks, the implied retcon, and what it means when the rest of the world decides your home is a forever hot zone. If you love sharp survival analysis, franchise lore, and messy human choices under pressure, this breakdown goes all the way in.

Hello, survivors, and welcome back to another episode of Will You Survive?
SPEAKER_00:The podcast.
SPEAKER_04:Holy shit. I just felt like it. I don't know why there's it's not even anything like. I mean, you know, it is kind of my you We're watched. We watched a movie, guys. We watched a movie movie. We watched a movie. It's a freaking movie podcast. You think we watch movies? Is this the first movie of the season? It is. Technically. We've got special episodes.
SPEAKER_06:Oh, wait, special episode.
SPEAKER_03:It was uh what special episode was part of last season? Oh, because technically last season? No. It was supposed to be, but I don't think you released it until after after that, right? Josh. Yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_04:That's right. The shit. Anyways.
SPEAKER_03:Freaking Josh.
SPEAKER_04:Anyways, my name is TJ, and I'm here with my two co-hosts. We've got I'm Eric.
SPEAKER_01:And I'm Alex.
SPEAKER_04:Today, the movie that we watched was 28 inches later. 28 inches long. 20 inches long. And it was. It definitely was.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, so here's a real question. Do we think there's an actual porno parody of this movie because there has to be. Why wouldn't there be?
SPEAKER_06:If they didn't, they're just slipping.
SPEAKER_04:I kind of want to look up who fucking played Alpha.
SPEAKER_03:That Alpha. That is yeah. Yeah. I've actually looked this up already before. I looked this up the first week it came out.
SPEAKER_06:He's an adult film star.
SPEAKER_03:Is he really?
SPEAKER_06:He's he's gotta be. Well, I mean if he isn't at this point, he will be.
SPEAKER_03:That's true. He's gonna get so many contract deals, so many offers.
SPEAKER_06:They're like, dude, you you don't even have to do anything. Just lie there. He's gonna he's gonna star in the parody.
SPEAKER_03:Hey, I mean, you know, getting that money. The Alpha franchise.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. Sanson almost killed the guy who named him Sanson. But yeah, guys, we watched 28 Years Later. It was a great film. I I truly enjoyed it. Uh there were some parts that were kind of weird. Uh, but that's okay. I like weird.
SPEAKER_03:Um well, so okay, you guys were talking about this before. What was weird? Because it nothing really struck out as like super weird to me. Well, the last two minutes from the top of my head.
SPEAKER_04:Weird. Um I I literally just watched this.
SPEAKER_03:I think the oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I yeah.
SPEAKER_04:The fucking Power Rangers, sir.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. The blonde.
SPEAKER_06:That's exactly what they were.
SPEAKER_03:Well, I was telling TJ it got like randomly campy in like the last two minutes of the film. Yeah. It's very weird. The rest of the film, I I actually, I'm not gonna lie, don't really like that part. It kind of annoys me, but the rest of the movie was really good.
SPEAKER_06:Well, it has been a long time. I gotta throw down Desta, welcome back. Good to see you.
SPEAKER_04:The 28 inches were prosthetic. I don't like the movie.
SPEAKER_03:So that was an intentional choice. Oh, yeah, that was an intentional choice. So they really went like, Well, what screams Alpha? And some person in the back went, Dick Dick! And they were like, That's actually a really good idea.
SPEAKER_02:So yeah, um twist it. And they're like, Whoa, my god. Oh my god, dude. MMA fight.
SPEAKER_04:Well, wait, has anybody ever tried the fucking in the universe, dude? What if that's the weakness? Because they're like, Oh, you could shoot 12 arrows and it still won't go down. They didn't grab it. One dick dick and twist it. Yeah, one dick twist and that guy goes down. Um, so guys, we've all seen the first two of these movies, correct? Yep.
SPEAKER_03:Uh, I've seen oh yeah, 28 days and weeks.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. What are your thoughts on the changes here? On like how the infection works, you know.
SPEAKER_03:Okay, so I I really love it because it stays for the most part consistent in that uh like the infection is really quick. And I don't know. I I think it was really interesting to see this kind of well, we eventually learn that they're this isolated island um uh of infected, and uh the rest of the world apparently seems to be back to the modern age and functioning just fine. Uh so it was really interesting to see this kind of like secluded civilization, but like kind of a really fucked up civilization that they're living in. And it was nice to see the contrast of the of the soldier who oddly enough shares my name, um, who went there and was like, Oh, you probably don't know what internet is. Yeah, uh oh yeah, you probably don't know what a d a delivery driver is. Um, okay, and just having all this technology, it's I don't know, it's very interesting. I thought it was a really nice take on uh on this virus and what it could do. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:I I thought they kept all of the important parts, all the relevant things, and um I think that the evolution, if you will, wasn't anything that turned me off or turned me away or made me like it was not a whole different movie, you know. It was the same virus, it was the same movie, they just they just isolated it on the island.
SPEAKER_03:Now, when you say evolution, what do you mean by that?
SPEAKER_06:Uh that was kind of the whole um the whole theme of the movie, the the the plot, the um trailers, the teasers. They kept saying, even in the photographs of it, um, in 28 days it it broke out in 28 weeks, it you know, whatever, in 28 years it evolved. It didn't evolve to a to a point where it was no longer the rage virus, it evolved in the sense that they formed an an hierarchy, which I was okay with with what they did.
SPEAKER_03:So here's what I find so interesting about that. Didn't we see the same thing in 28 weeks?
SPEAKER_06:What's that?
SPEAKER_03:With the dad?
SPEAKER_06:That where he he I you could look back and see that it was kind of something like that, but I don't think they tried to overtly make it look like that.
SPEAKER_03:So it if we remember, I believe in our we did a 28 weeks later episode, right? Yep. I believe in that episode we were talking about how like, oh, it's kind of silly that the dad just randomly has this like intelligence that none of the other zombies or none of the other infected have. Um and I don't know if we really said it was silly or if we were like, oh, you know, it's just a very interesting mutation of the virus.
SPEAKER_06:In our episode, we called it plot weaponry. So because they didn't explain how we had to infer that they're able to keep some level of their intelligence.
SPEAKER_03:Well, this almost seems like this movie was trying to build off of that, and it's like that was maybe uh call it the for lack of better terms, the prototype of an alpha, and as it evolves, now they're even stronger.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah, I think I think you can easily say that after watching this movie, it's you can say that's a fact.
SPEAKER_03:I like that. I like that they built on it.
SPEAKER_06:I don't think they intended to do that when we watched 28 weeks.
SPEAKER_03:Well, they clearly built him with some sort of extra intelligence that nobody else had. So, like they had this idea.
SPEAKER_06:I mean to say, I don't think that they wrote it that way. Well, I think it was plot weapon.
SPEAKER_03:I don't think they wrote it as like, now he's going to happen to become this alpha variant. I think they're like, uh, oh, it's good plot if he's hunting down the kids the whole time.
SPEAKER_06:He has the key card, he has the way through everywhere, he's able to to maneuver through the entire base, and it's like, well, then he has to have some level of intelligence.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, because didn't he also like he didn't bite his kid and he could have at one point. Wasn't that a thing that happened in the subways? Maybe I'm mistaken.
SPEAKER_06:I think no, he was like on top, and I think the I think the soldier started shooting at him.
SPEAKER_03:There was like a moment he could have. There was a moment where he definitely could have.
SPEAKER_04:I imagine that like there always is like I I think when you get infected with this virus in particular, I think you're still in there. I was gonna ask that, yeah. I kind of think so too. I think that it like I don't think it necessarily like even like mutated. I think it just kind of like I don't know. It just it it probably like let some parts of the brain be active and not rage out. So okay. I have to do that. And then made your wiener grow huge.
SPEAKER_03:I I have a question. I don't know. May maybe I'm onto something, maybe I'm not. So in the beginning of the film when we see uh not Spike, but Spike's dad's dad um in the church, and he gets eaten by all the infected. Um the infected weren't like didn't Oh that wasn't Spike. Yeah, yeah, and that was Spike's dad.
SPEAKER_04:It's no nope, that wasn't so that was the guy at the end, yeah, the Power Ranger motherfucker hid the upside down cross necklace.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, that was Jimmy?
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, oh wow, you guys what the hell? Yeah, no, I was like, this cross is gonna show up eventually. I didn't never fucking did until the last two minutes.
SPEAKER_03:I did not put that together. That's interesting. Okay, but regardless, um, the the preacher or the pastor who got eaten by all the infected.
SPEAKER_00:Yep.
SPEAKER_03:Um my thought on that is that those were very typical, like call it zombie genre, where they're like, oh, we're gonna eat the body completely. But it almost seems like the virus mutated to being a little more like World War Z, where the the virus um like bites to infect, maybe. Maybe I'm I'm a little wrong about that, but my only evidence that I really used to back that up is the the guy who was hanging by his feet and was infected. How did he get infected? Because so my thought is like either an infected walked in, bit him, and then was like, all right, you're infected and peaced out, or uh maybe the crows infected him.
SPEAKER_06:Huh. No, I didn't think that. I thought it was something more sinister, like um somebody else took him, tied him up, like he was infected, if you will.
SPEAKER_03:Like maybe they dripped blood into his mouth or something.
SPEAKER_06:Maybe something because they they the bag, the bag had like so much blood in it, so I got the vibe that it was like it was some kind of torture. Like they hung him upside down and then they put that bag filled with blood all over his head.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, I thought the blood would be because when they when they turn, they throw up a bunch of blood.
SPEAKER_06:Oh no, for sure, but I don't know why you would hang him upside down, leave him alive, and care. Like you left him, clearly. Why would you care if he's throwing up or not?
SPEAKER_03:Well, no, but I think they put the bag on there.
SPEAKER_06:But why? Why would you hang him upside down? He was alive, just kill him.
SPEAKER_04:And then they just hung him there and let the zombies come get him the infected.
SPEAKER_06:You thought that? I thought they turned him on purpose.
SPEAKER_03:That's what I thought, because they like that's kind of what they inferred, but that's what I mean by like they didn't completely pick the corpse clean at all.
SPEAKER_04:I think their their main goal is to infect, and their secondary goal is like everything else, like eating.
SPEAKER_03:But that wasn't the case in 28 days or 28 weeks. So that would be interesting if the virus evolved to for more sustainability rather than just to kill.
SPEAKER_06:Well, one of the things that I think about in the quote unquote evolution is I do think they learned that they had to eat. Remember, in 28 weeks later, they starved to death.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah.
SPEAKER_06:So I think in um in this one, they figured it out. Right? They had to eat, which meant they were also eating people. Right? They would they would beat on them, do whatever, and start biting on them and and eat 'em.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it's not to say that they that they weren't, uh, but it did seem like I don't know, maybe maybe I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_04:They primarily like were infecting and not eating people. Like which is they would eat other shit like animals and stuff in this.
SPEAKER_06:They they ate uh Spikes fish.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, yeah. Straight up grabbed it and started Yeah. Um guy got a cooked fish for free. One thing I wanted to bring up, they retconned something in this movie.
SPEAKER_01:Spoiler warning! Spoiler warning! If you haven't seen this movie twenty-eight years later, stop watching, idiot. Or you can.
SPEAKER_04:Um but yeah, they they retcon something. Uh at the end of the twenty-eight weeks later, what happens?
SPEAKER_06:At the end of twenty-eight weeks later, uh, Paris is gets like they're going towards Paris, right?
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, I remember that. But now they're just saying it's the just the UK that's under corner. Right, right. So they reconcile. That's true. So uh haha or they're Fuck you British people, brother.
SPEAKER_03:Now you really exist. Or they're implying that France got their country under control, but that seems very unlikely.
SPEAKER_04:So although of 28 days later in Paris would kind of go hard.
SPEAKER_03:That's basically just uh Imagine like a survivor camp like on the Eiffel Tower. The night eats the world, that's what it was. But um was that it, Alex? What was that? The night eats the world?
SPEAKER_06:Uh that was well, that was our take on it. Was if 28 weeks really did go all out, the only problem we had with it was was uh the night eats the world was actual zombies.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, well, I I was making a France joke. You were preoccupied with something.
SPEAKER_06:Oh.
SPEAKER_04:Oh, okay. I was looking at so another thing. Who needs a houseboat when you got a fucking island with a whole ass causeway that floods and then unfloods? Yep. That was sick. That is the topic. I mean, they could have done a better wall at the end of it, but like it's it's fine. It's just a wood wall.
SPEAKER_03:It's very solid.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah. No, there's a there's a lot. Um there's a lot about their island that's suspect to me, but it seemed like like it worked well. I mean, this I don't know if this was uh no, this was current uh judged by the tides. It was ruled by the tides, so it had to be salt water. But I don't know where their freshwater was coming from that they were able to water their crops and and all of that, because anything on their on their island is gonna be absorbing salt water.
SPEAKER_04:I I imagine that there's some sort of freshwater source on the island that can happen. Had to be um where like if you're stranded on an island, guys, go like inland and look look for some moisture on the ground and start digging. You'll possibly find some some clean drinking water. I've watched some videos on it. Um yeah, Causeway flooding. That was dope.
SPEAKER_03:Um that scene where the alpha was chasing Spike and his dad was giving me so much anxiety.
SPEAKER_04:It was a good scene though. That should beautiful too, because you could see like all the fucking stars and shit.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. Yeah, the night shots were so good in this movie. Um this is the first horror movie that I think we've watched where I could actually see what was happening at night.
SPEAKER_04:And it wasn't just pitch black.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, holy shit. So many movies. I'm like, what am I looking at? Yeah, especially like note. And they'll put the characters wearing black on a black background at night. Um, this whole movie was filmed on iPhones.
SPEAKER_06:Really? Mm-hmm. Oh, that's an interesting little fact.
SPEAKER_04:Not just like they weren't just holding a fucking iPhone up though, like they had like whole filmed on iPhone.
SPEAKER_06:City cams.
SPEAKER_04:That's like interesting. I think that's just like the director's thing. Because it's the same director as the last ones. So really yeah, like the the workarounds to get twenty-eight like days later made, like where he's walking through at the beginning, like an empty London. Yeah. They would just get up in in the morning when nobody was there to get those shots.
SPEAKER_03:That seems wow, that seems like in America you could never get that.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, and it was it was filmed on like a real cheap like camcorder, too, I'm pretty sure. This was also a long time ago though. But um, yeah, this movie was pretty good looking for being shot on iPhone. That's okay.
SPEAKER_03:I'm yeah, I'm not gonna lie, I'm upset about it.
SPEAKER_04:Fuck you, iPhone, you you losers.
SPEAKER_03:Like, well, this is just gonna give him something to brag about.
SPEAKER_04:Your leader is dead, iPhone, your leader is dead!
SPEAKER_02:Oh no.
SPEAKER_04:We still have our lord Samsung. What's his name? Samsung. Yeah, yeah. I don't know if you knew that. Uh what else? Oh, when they're in that fucking house when uh they first getting chased. Yeah, and then it starts collapsing because all the fucking deer fucked up. So clearly that there's an abundance of fucking food. You see how many uh uh that enough deer to like rattle a house?
SPEAKER_06:Yeah. I mean that that seems pretty obvious because nothing's hunting them anymore. You don't have massive society.
SPEAKER_04:And there's they're the they're somewhat like they're oh probably only getting hunted by the the infected. Oh, and the fact that the freaking uh alpha put the deer head up on the tree as like a scare tactic.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I knew nothing about the alpha at this point, but the second I saw that, I was like, that is not a good sign.
SPEAKER_04:No, I'd I'd instantly shit myself.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, because I'm either thinking either a zombie is smart enough to do that or a person is crazy enough to do that. Right. And the deer looked infected and ripped apart by infected, so I'm gonna go with the first one, which is more terrifying than the second.
SPEAKER_04:You would think the uh United Nations would do like some some like airdrops or something of like supplies. Everybody here is using bows and arrows and shit.
SPEAKER_03:Well, so that's interesting you bring that up because it seems like nobody on the island except maybe the people who were around at the start of the uh infection, but it seems like nobody on the island, uh the when I say the island, I mean the broader island and the small island they were on. Um, it seems like none of them were aware that the outside world was continuing as normal.
SPEAKER_04:No, I th I d I I think that um because our main character, little boy, what is his name? Spike. Spike uh he when he was talking to Eric, rest in peace, Eric got his spine ripped out. When he was talking to him, he he he mentioned something he he knew about the quarantine, but he didn't know like they're clueless as to like what's happening on the outside world.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, well I don't think they I don't think they knew about I don't think he really knew about the quarantine.
SPEAKER_04:No, but they they I think they also mentioned it when he was up in the attic with his dad that they were patrolling the seas. Yeah, he did. He said probably the French. Yeah. Yeah. So I think they know that they're in a quarantine, but they just don't know shit else about the outside world.
SPEAKER_06:I guess the the thing that I would place in 2025. I wonder if he perhaps thought that his dad was lying about everything.
SPEAKER_04:I think that's probably why he went out on his own at the end.
SPEAKER_06:I I agree.
SPEAKER_04:It's all when he saw his dad cheating.
SPEAKER_06:Well, I mean, it it started when he was, you know, his dad was telling them all that he was this hero and all of that, which I I I don't blame the dad because the boy did do well.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, no, I I actually right after that moment, I thought like, wow, that's a really good dad. Like to really hype his son up and be like, no, he took down a giant, you know, like it seemed very like um, I don't know, maybe I'm wrong on this, but it seemed very like, you know, Viking-ish, or like, you know, kind of like trying to build up a warrior. Right. It seemed it seemed that's my boy, yeah. It seemed good. Like, I thought that was nice, but then when he saw his dad uh being unfaithful, I think that's when it all collapsed.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:And it just all became doubt rather than confidence. Yep. And and that hurt him.
SPEAKER_04:Another anxiety-inducing thing, that fucking party.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah.
SPEAKER_04:That party was stressing me the fuck out. I'm like, uh.
SPEAKER_02:I I yeah, no, that did not bother me nearly as much as the song. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04:Fucking Scottish people. They only half exist.
SPEAKER_03:I was practicing my Scottish accent while watching this movie.
SPEAKER_04:I cannot do one, and if I try it, it will be horrendous.
SPEAKER_03:And anytime I try a Scottish accent, it just always becomes if you had the chance to change a fit.
SPEAKER_04:Literally, that's the only fucking I don't know why. I know I know of more Scottish people. Brave the Disney movie. Brave. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_06:That's funny because the only thing I can think of when I think of Scottish is oh, do you mean like bowling? Fuck no, not like bowling. You put it hundreds of yards away, and you give them a little flag to give them hope.
SPEAKER_04:My mom's turned into a bear, you know?
SPEAKER_02:And then every time you missed, you feel like you have a stroke.
SPEAKER_03:Call it a stroke because every time you miss, you feel like you're gonna fucking die. Yeah, that's who I think of. Rest in peace, Robin Williams. Great special. We should do that for the next episode.
SPEAKER_06:Will you survive this much coke? Robin Williams. Uh he was coked out for that special for real.
SPEAKER_02:He was sweating so hard. Uh good old Robin. Good old Robin.
SPEAKER_06:So I I actually think that I have a take on the dad. It might be an unpopular opinion, but here it goes. The dad was hyping his son up. The dad loved his wife, the dad knew his wife was going to die. I think that it was just a matter of, you know, let's just ride it out.
SPEAKER_02:I think he was coping.
SPEAKER_06:I don't know that I don't know that the kid's way of taking her to the doctor and the doctor putting her down immediately was any better. Um, I mean I definitely think that, you know, he was he was selfishly taking care of himself, but he didn't want his wife to die. He didn't, but he knew there was something beyond his capability of helping her.
SPEAKER_02:And it was coping. I didn't.
SPEAKER_06:I didn't guess cancer. I actually was thinking it was Alzheimer's because she was not dementia. She was slipping. Yeah. I was like, uh, but when he said it made sense it either spread from your brain to your body or your body to your brain. I was like, oh fuck.
SPEAKER_03:It made sense because I was like, because she comes in and out of it, and but I was thinking like maybe it's like early onset, yeah, dementia or something like that.
SPEAKER_04:A couple other symptoms, like she was like, Oh, I don't know why I'm hot.
SPEAKER_03:The hot was weird. Oh for a little bit, I was like, Does she have are they trying to insinuate some weird form of infection?
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, that's why I was on the side.
SPEAKER_03:Where like it's really slow in her, huh? I was thinking, like, do they know she's infected and they're trying to hide it, or like what what is happening here? Like, maybe you remember the mom from the 28 weeks later, um, where she was kind of like a carrier.
SPEAKER_06:She's immune, if you will.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I was kind of thinking that.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:But I I wasn't certain because like that they it what made me think that that can't possibly be it is they so willingly left her to go to the mainland. Right. And I was like, they wouldn't do that if they were trying to hide her away. Right. So I don't know. Uh yeah, I didn't think cancer though.
SPEAKER_06:And as soon as they came back, I knew I knew it wasn't um it wasn't some kind of a secret disease because they had someone watching her while they were gone. Like it it all kind of clicked. But I was thinking the same thing. Like, do they not want anybody to know that she's like this? And then he also kind of gave it away because he said they were walking out in the fields. I was like, oh, okay. So like she's even able to walk, which that's why I was thinking Alzheimer's because she had enough energy to be out and about and walking, and he was like, Oh, she's really lively when she's here. That's what I think. I really didn't think cancer, I really thought it was a it was Alzheimer's.
SPEAKER_04:I agree, I thought so too. They threw me for a loop with that one. I I I felt like she played like or she was gonna play like a bigger part in the story. So I was like, Yeah, what would be the most traumatic thing to be wrong with her? And I was just like, Yeah, probably cancer.
SPEAKER_06:Interesting.
SPEAKER_04:Um speaking of immune, Eric, we finally got it. Zombie baby.
SPEAKER_03:Oh, well, but not zombie baby. But zombie infected zombies baby, which okay, what do we feel about that whole scene? Was that do we think that was trying to tell a message, or we do we think that was kind of campy and dumb?
SPEAKER_06:Well, I don't know what they were going for. I think this is gonna come back to us again. Uh one of the things that I think of with this is that the doctor specifically said the magic of the placenta. I I agree. It's like that's blocking out all of this virus.
SPEAKER_03:Right. That might be possible.
SPEAKER_06:Now, what was interesting to me was how did she get pregnant? Was she pregnant already? I think carried the baby to term.
SPEAKER_03:I would imagine that she had just gotten infected.
SPEAKER_06:Like, or what if there's some violent ritual that these infected are now doing?
SPEAKER_03:Well, okay, go ahead.
SPEAKER_06:Because the alpha went and picked her up, looked at her, she's dead, and then dropped her and went after them again.
SPEAKER_04:My thoughts. I mean, he would always go after them, so I guess either she was are in the moment. I was like, either she was already pregnant, and then I seen the alpha pick her up, and then I was like, Alpha got dick game, so maybe he was hitting that.
SPEAKER_06:That's what I that's what I thought.
SPEAKER_03:Well, okay, so I was kind of thinking like Army of the Dead. Uh-huh. Like, you know how he had his queen. Uh-huh. Yeah, that's what I thought.
SPEAKER_04:I was thinking kind of like I was thinking like uh I am legend type beat. Okay, all right. The same thing.
SPEAKER_03:I I wonder if instead, because the alpha is very intelligent, I wonder if that was a like she carried it to term and then he infected her, and then she was gonna have the baby and he was gonna take it. But could be like they kind of leave it pretty ambiguous, but the the fact that it it was like a mother's love where it seemed like she was fighting like she was fully infected, but fighting off the virus from inside of her a little bit, because she even let the yeah she let uh Isla, Isla? She let Spike's mom her hands. Yeah, she let Spike's mom teach uh tr basically be her doula while she gave birth. I mean she came after her after, but well that's where like that's where I think the like I mean this is like very like supernatural, but it's like the that instinct of like I have to this is my child, I have to do this, I have to fight off this virus, and then once the child all of mother nature behind her.
SPEAKER_04:And then once the child is delivered, like when that shit's happening, probably had something to do with it also.
SPEAKER_06:By the way, just just FYI. I don't know if you know this. Do you know who the doctor was? Dr. Kelson's Voldemort. He's Voldemort.
SPEAKER_04:Oh, really? He's the guy, the main chef in the menu.
SPEAKER_06:Uh yes, he was.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah. No, I immediately recognized him. I was like, why is he covered in blood? He was like, it's iodine, and I'm like, oh.
SPEAKER_06:And I'll tell you, I absolutely hated that movie, The Menu, until the end.
SPEAKER_04:I loved it.
SPEAKER_06:When that girl went ape shit on him, and was and the way she went crazy on him and was just like, Your food bores me. There's no love in it. There's no you you're not creative, it's it's uh it lacks all intelligence and creativity. There's love in it.
SPEAKER_04:Love is the most important ingredient, and he turns back to his chefs, isn't it, guys? Yeah, chef.
SPEAKER_06:And he's like, Yeah, chef. And you saw the look, the dawning in his eyes that he was absolutely fucking wrong. And then she's like, and the worst part about it, I'm still fucking hungry. But he did a good job in that movie, too.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, love Anya Taylor Joy, too. Is one of my favorite places. Yeah, I love Anya Taylor Joy. Almost a pick for this episode was uh the gorge. He's in that.
SPEAKER_06:Ever since she did uh Is that one of those white bitches trapped in places?
SPEAKER_04:Oh white people signed up to be in a place that they're also trapped in.
SPEAKER_06:Okay. And Desta mentions that uh Ralph Feinz is also in um Chindler's List, which that's true.
SPEAKER_04:We should watch Chindler's List for them.
SPEAKER_06:Will you no? I won't even I won't I won't even finish that one. All right, good joke. Survival strategy. It was a good joke. We just put blanks on the on the screen. We don't even put what movie it is that we're talking about.
SPEAKER_04:A little history about where where this movie came from. Okay, you so imagine you're every time early 1900s, right? You're a painter. 1930s. They reject you're a painter. Oh no. What's your next step?
SPEAKER_03:Literally, I I I just recently heard uh heard a meme where it was like so-and-so politician got rejected from art school, and all the comments were like, uh-oh. Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_04:To be fair, is his paintings were kind of they were actually really good. So what else was that?
SPEAKER_06:Um, what else was was that girl in? I would she look familiar.
SPEAKER_03:Uh which girl?
SPEAKER_06:From uh the menu. Oh, on the drawer?
SPEAKER_03:She was Queen's Gambit.
SPEAKER_06:That's what it was.
SPEAKER_03:Love her ever since I saw that.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah, she did a good job in that one.
SPEAKER_03:She was phenomenal in that. Okay, Mr. Host.
SPEAKER_06:What else do you want us to talk about?
SPEAKER_04:Uh we covered zombie baby. What do you what are your thoughts on uh this is a question to Eric. Um What what what are your thoughts on the reference uh to
SPEAKER_03:I liked it. Yeah, when he was like, Do you know what Memento Mori means? I was like, Oh, ooh, ooh, I do.
SPEAKER_06:That was when the doctor said that. That was that was how you knew that?
SPEAKER_03:I have a jacket. You can see it right there, the white one. You might not be able to see it, but it says Memento Mori on the sleeve right there. Oh no way. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04:I would grab uh I have the post or not the I have a flag with that.
SPEAKER_03:Okay.
SPEAKER_04:I also have a sticker. Memento Mori.
SPEAKER_03:That's what Unis Honest. That's what Unis. Interesting. It was Unis Honest means one year.
SPEAKER_06:Remember we must die.
SPEAKER_03:And their slogan was Memento Mori, remember death. And their whole point of it, so you'll see that one sleeve has a bunch of zeros on it. It's a timestamp. The other sleeve has 365. And their whole point was that for a year, they would release a video every single day. I'm sure I told you about this the whole year it was happening. It was during COVID.
SPEAKER_04:Um I didn't know Eric yet, so we couldn't bond.
SPEAKER_03:For the year, they were going to release a video every day, no matter how bad the video.
SPEAKER_04:And no matter how bad the fucking year, because they decided to choose 2020.
SPEAKER_03:They started November 2019. Oh. And so like halfway through my wedding anniversary. But they made the best of it. Honestly, some of the some really great episodes. Like uh what was it? What was the one where he where Ethan was learning English? I don't remember that one. Uh it wasn't like Reading Rainbow. It was um what are some of those other programs?
SPEAKER_06:Reading Rainbow or uh I mean not Sesame Street.
SPEAKER_04:Um it's irrelevant, but my favorite episode is one that's echo location in the dark to play hide and seek.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, that was really funny. One of so, dude, easy was actually really good at that too.
SPEAKER_03:Um one of the sleeves has 365, the other one has zero, and the whole point was that they were gonna do a video every day for a whole year and then delete the channel at the end.
SPEAKER_04:Delete the channel delete every other social media, delete their fucking website. No trace.
SPEAKER_03:The whole point, yeah. So you did they? That's the only yeah, that's the only time the merch was ever uh available was during that year. Um they did a live stream at the very end where once the clock hit zero, they all all three of them together clicked delete and they ended the stream and deleted the channel. Damn and it all went away. There's still archives of all the videos all over the internet. But um Mark constantly Mark constantly made a joke about how they were gonna sue anybody who uh showed the videos, but I went to go watch some of these archive videos.
SPEAKER_04:It's not the same.
SPEAKER_03:It's not. I was just like, I can't watch it. Interesting. Okay, incredible, but the whole point was like make every day count. Like you never know when your last day is, you know, god forbid, but you never know when your last day is, so make every day count. On getting a tattoo.
SPEAKER_04:They post a goddamn video of their they bought caskets, a black one and a white one, or a a black and like whatever. It it's a half and half black and white. Yeah, half and half casket, and they they they always tease us they the casket little knock, little knock on it. They're like, Oh my god, everybody's like, Oh my god, Tunis Honus? It's never gonna happen. No, because it's dead.
SPEAKER_03:There's some crazy episodes of Unisonus that the first episode was them cooking with sex toys. It was so funny. Okay, so hang on. There's uh the best part of the video, Mark has a straight up gag in his mouth, um, and he's got like it's like a hole, so his mouth is like held open and it's strapped around his mouth, and Ethan is feeding eggs with a sex paddle into his mouth, and then you see both of them, they're like, they're just they're doing this, and then you see both of them go, they like look over, and Mark is like, oh, and he takes off the the gag and he walks over, and apparently the mailman walked up and dead-eyed them, just looked right at them and was like, Okay, and put the mail and left.
SPEAKER_02:Oh god.
SPEAKER_04:I I can gladly say that I was literally there from the start. They didn't do any like advertising for it, I don't remember. They didn't need to. But I literally I it popped up on my feed and I was like, what the fuck is this? Interesting.
SPEAKER_06:Yeah, I'm so that's how you guys knew Memento Mori. Yeah, and what was the other what was the other quote? Uh memento that Amoris. Amoris.
SPEAKER_04:Remember, you must love. Remember love.
SPEAKER_06:Remember to love, remember everyone dies. And remember, yeah, boots stay alive.
SPEAKER_03:Not with Okay, well, we could talk about that in the episode, but I would I'm not gonna lie, I would really prefer if nobody sang it. But that song legitimately like it irks my soul. I do not like it. I almost turned the movie off. I I feel like I'm being a little baby bitch about it, but something about it like really fucking hurts my soul. I don't like it.
SPEAKER_04:So for people who don't know, I'll uh Eric, take your headphones off. I'm gonna play it right for two seconds. Okay after I add plays. I don't have I don't have a premium YouTube, guys. I'm gonna play it for you.
SPEAKER_03:Look at what's in front of you. Moving up and down again.
SPEAKER_04:You can put your headphones back on. Basically, yeah, that was used for the trailer, and that was also used in the movie, and is literally used to induce anxiety, and it raric does not like it.
SPEAKER_03:I also do not like it, but well, the thing about it is like during the trailers, it didn't really bother me that way. But something about during the movie, it like snapped something in me where I really don't like it.
SPEAKER_04:I was so confused what the fuck this trailer was, and then it was like 28 days later or 28 years later, I'm like, oh shit. They're doing like 28 inches long, and you were like, What? It didn't bother me at all.
SPEAKER_03:You're like, What do you mean 28 inches long? And then you saw it and you're like, Oh that's what they meant.
SPEAKER_04:Big old floppy dick. He was not hung like a silverback gorilla. Callback. I think that deserves a point to me. Oh wow, congratulations, host. Tarp equals map.
SPEAKER_03:I think I'm gonna start saying I'm hung like a silverback gorilla, because I don't think most people know. I've already been doing that.
SPEAKER_04:Oh. Have fun. Another callback. I introduced one of our friends. Uh, you know, Brandon Eric. Taught him what an Alabama Hot Pocket is. Oh god. We were talking about Hot Pockets, right? And I was like, Well, do you know what an Alabama Hot Pocket is? He's like, No. I'm like, don't look it up. And when you say don't look it up, you know they're gonna look it up. Yeah, yeah, obviously.
SPEAKER_06:Do you know what a Boston pancake is?
SPEAKER_03:Boston cream pie.
SPEAKER_06:No. Boston pancake.
SPEAKER_03:Oh.
SPEAKER_06:Boston pancake. Don't look it up.
SPEAKER_03:Well, come on.
SPEAKER_06:I'm just saying, I'm looking it up.
SPEAKER_03:What is a Boston pancake? I'm gonna hopefully forget by the time I have a chance to look it up.
SPEAKER_06:It's gonna all depend on TJ right now. I'm seeing a couple different and the Urban Dictionary.
SPEAKER_03:I was gonna say I assume Urban Dictionary.
SPEAKER_04:I don't know if I want to tell the viewers about this. Everybody go look up a Boston pancake.
SPEAKER_02:No, don't go look up a no, we cannot tell people to go look up a Boston pancake. Everybody go look up Bob Pancake.
SPEAKER_06:It's the first one. Everybody by G-Bomb, April 25th, 2006. Wild.
SPEAKER_04:That's the one. Kind of reminds me of a happy tapioca. You know, look up a happy tapioca.
SPEAKER_03:This is just good, this is gonna devolve into an awful episode real quick. This is just after hours. At this point. Hey, uh, so uh anything else to talk about?
SPEAKER_06:Uh I wanted to talk about the very high likelihood that this movie has another installment. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_04:It's it's coming out January, possibly.
SPEAKER_03:That so really quick, the last two minutes of the movie, because we didn't talk about this while recording, is a fucking fever dream of uh two minutes. What the f it it was like such a serious movie up until that point, and they're like, look, these people can just flip and do multiple flips in the air and look at them dance around the zombies.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:And then they're and then they're fucking power rangers. And then the fucking Power Rangers show up.
SPEAKER_04:Yeah, it was blonde people in tracksuits, multicolored tracksuits with fucking long ass spears and rope and motherfuckers decked out in chains.
SPEAKER_03:The long spear thing is actually a real thing. Uh, I believe Chinese uh I believe it's Chinese um uh shepherds use them to traverse uh really hilly areas. Um have you guys seen that before? I have actually where um they have like long ass sticks and they'll essentially like put in Do they have hooks on them? No, not hooks. It's essentially like they they're a fireman's pole.
SPEAKER_04:It's mobile.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. So they'll like they'll hold it out in front of them down a cliff and they'll jump off the cliff and use it to slide down safely. And they they traverse mountains that way or hills.
SPEAKER_06:Oh, interesting.
SPEAKER_03:And that's how they they do like goat shepherding, from what I understand. But like that, that's essentially what they were using here at the end of this movie. But like what bothered me about this was that it was like such a serious and really h intense movie, and then it just got real campy at the end, where it was like this two minutes of kind of just real silliness. But I whatever, I guess.
SPEAKER_06:So looking it up, I see that um the next installment is called 28 years later the Bone Temple, and it's going to bring to light who is Jimmy.
SPEAKER_04:Hello, dildoswagons.
SPEAKER_03:Jimmy.
SPEAKER_06:And they all survive, of course, not not uh Mom Isla, Baby Isla, Dr. Kelson, Spike, and his dad Jamie. They all survive 28 years later. We know that. And we see that Spike is saved by uh a group that's Jack O'Connell and his gang. That's um Jimmy. Jimmy. And Jimmy's full name is Sir Jimmy Crystal. And all his gang members are also named Jimmy. I'm actually ready to believe there it is. Jimmy Crystal and his Jimmmies wear blonde wigs and colorful tracksuits. A look inspired by Jimmy Seville. Wow. Popular British TV and radio presenter and DJ. That is crazy. Yeah. Oh, here it is. This is where they dropped the news. Seville was a staple on screens in the UK from the 1970s to early 2000s. He was a beloved figure. But after his death in 2011, it came to light that he was a prolific sex abuser and a pedophile. So I don't think these people are gonna be good.
SPEAKER_03:No, well, I think the upside-down cross around his neck really solidified that right away. You think? Yeah. Um, you know, usually Satan worshippers aren't. I was I was holding out a hope. Super loving.
SPEAKER_06:You know, for TJ's sake.
SPEAKER_03:You know TJ. Crazy.
SPEAKER_06:So that's what I think about the end of this movie, leading us right into the next one. Hopefully we have uh not too long to wait before we get it.
SPEAKER_04:One one last thing to bring up. Uh the dude who played Spike's dad. Actor's name is Ayler Aaron Taylor Johnson. Um he's 35, right? His wife. Is he? He's 58. They've been together since 2012. You do the math. Damn. This motherfucker was 22. She was 45. Bro loves the coups, bro. Loves the goos.
SPEAKER_03:Also, he looked like Hozier. Maybe I'm being racist against white people. Let me let me compare and contrast. Maybe it's just the hair.
SPEAKER_04:I think it's just the hair, really. But that has uh that has been the episode, so why don't you plug the socials, Eric?
SPEAKER_03:Oh, I knew this was gonna happen to me one day. Uh alright, you can follow us at Will You Survive on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Facebook. Facebook. Uh you could follow us at the boyswys on X. And then am I forgetting one? It's it's at the Boys at W Y S. At the Boys W Y S. At W Y S.

SPEAKER_03:We've got I think merch is really great because uh not only do you guys get to support us, but you also get something back for it. Yes. So that's really cool because I you know it kind of sucks to be like, hey, give us imaginary money or give us money.
SPEAKER_06:Give us money for nothing.
SPEAKER_03:Imaginary donuts and stuff like that. Although we very much and those are very nice. We do tattoo. Um I think merch is even better because you get something out of it, and you get to and you get to rep us and you get to support us, and we very much appreciate that. And I think our designs are kind of cool.
SPEAKER_06:Sweater's very comfortable.
SPEAKER_04:I was gonna say you could buy our new uh cryptocurrency, tarp coin. Oh, geez. You can also get something out of that.
SPEAKER_06:Oh my god. Tarp equals map.
SPEAKER_04:Uh it's gonna be a dollar, dude.
SPEAKER_03:It's gonna reach a dollar and you're gonna it's the new Haktua coin?
SPEAKER_05:Right now it's 00000000000000000. I'm just gonna let it keep going.
SPEAKER_04:I'm just gonna be a one for the rest of the episode and then not have an outro. Alex, you win. I win. Damn. Absolutely nothing because you're a loser. Uh Eric, you are the winner of today's episode. Hooray. You Woo!
SPEAKER_03:You shouldn't have sounded so surprised.
SPEAKER_06:Big giant monkey.
SPEAKER_03:Uh he's gonna amplify that.
SPEAKER_04:I'm gonna I'm gonna take that sound clip. I'm gonna save that.
SPEAKER_06:Make sure you get it all in context, because that means something.
SPEAKER_04:Remember, everything I said after what I said when I said it is a joke. That's what he said is not a joke. He's uh actually a prolific racist.
SPEAKER_06:No, no, that's not racist. I wasn't being racist, I was being absolutely nasty and perverted.
SPEAKER_04:Thank you all for listening to the last episode of the podcast. Make sure to go watch 28 years later if you haven't. I don't know why you're listening to the podcast.
SPEAKER_06:If you haven't, because they just went and watched it before they listened to us. Oh, yeah, totally.
SPEAKER_04:Go do that. Uh go buy our merch. If you don't buy our merch, we won't love you. Uh, just kidding, we will. Uh remember, everything I say is a joke.
SPEAKER_06:Um, and except for go buy our merch.
SPEAKER_04:Fuck you, go in the Rock Johnson. Uh thousand dollars if you go in the Rock Johnson, buy our merch. Give me a thousand dollars. Um yeah, buy our merch. Until next time, stay alive.
