Mindful Drinking & Moderation in Midlife: How to Drink Less, On Your Terms
How do I drink less without quitting completely? What's the difference between alcohol-free, low alcohol, and no alcohol drinks? Why can't I handle alcohol like I used to? How do I cut back when everyone around me is still drinking? Why do alcohol-free drinks cost so much?
If you're in your 30s, 40s, 50s or beyond and asking these questions, this is your podcast.
Welcome to the essential show for midlife adults who want to drink less, on their own terms—without the pressure to quit completely, follow rigid rules, or label themselves as sober.
I'm Denise Hamilton-Mace, your mindful drinking mentor, magazine editor, writer and public speaker on all things low, no and light. Each week, I help stressed parents and busy midlife adults navigate their relationship with alcohol through practical approaches grounded in real-world experience and behaviour change strategy, not willpower or wellness culture
What you'll get:
Mindful Moderation Solo Episodes – Deep-dives answering the questions that matter to sophisticated drinkers who want to moderate smartly:
- How do I cut back when my partner still drinks at home?
- Why do premium alcohol-free drinks cost the same as full-strength versions?
- How do I navigate social situations when I'm the only one moderating?

This podcast is for you if:
- You want drinks that taste like the ones you already love
- You're looking for practical advice that fits your demanding life, not another wellness overhaul
- You recognise that coasting with mid-strength drinks, zebra-striping, or bookending your evening with something non-alcoholic are all valid strategies
- You want better mornings without giving up celebrating life's special moments
This isn't about going completely dry or reinventing yourself. It's about keeping energy for what matters most: family, health, career, and living life on your own terms.
Join the moderation revolution happening in midlife – because while Gen Z gets the headlines, you're the one actually doing it.

Hello and welcome to day 10 of our mindful drinking advent calendar here on the mindful drinking and moderation in midlife podcast. Now, today is about Mold Everything, and our sponsor today is very fitting because today is brought to you by Iceberg Wines, who have a wonderful mould offering for the alcohol-free Christmas experience, and I'll tell you a bit more about that in the end. But as I said, today we are talking about Mold Everything. It is the ultimate festive sensation, the smell of cloves, of orange peel, and cinnamon wafting through the air as you wander through Winter Wonderland or some other festive market somewhere. It is the quintessential festive sensation. When else in the year do you get to have all of these lovely flavors and aromas and smells and sensations? I mean, you can have it whenever you want, but it would seem weird outside of Christmas. Um, it is so lovely to have a hot mold wine. You can have a mold apple juice, a mold cider, a mold grape juice. I've even seen mold tonic water. I don't get it, I've never tried it. Have at it, see what else you can mold. But the great thing about mold drinks is that for low, no, and light drinkers, for the sober curious, for the mindful drinking, this one is kind of a secret, easy mode, it's kind of a cheap mode because it's not the alcohol that you're craving in this instance, it's literally the smells, it's the aromas, it's the spice, the warmth, the cozy Christmassy feeling that comes from holding it in your hand whilst the whole world goes dark at 3 15 pm. So this December you can mull anything that you want to. Make your kitchen smell like a wonderful Christmas market and wrap your hands around something warm. And remember that festive is a feeling, it is not an ABV. Now, on the advent calendar today, our day 10 is sponsored by iceberg wine, as I mentioned at the beginning. Now, iceberg have been in the alcohol-free wine space for over 30 years. They have a fantastic selection of alcohol-free wines from their sort of everyday range through to their selection range, which is their more premium end. And every year they re-release their iceberg mold. If you are one of those people that loves a mold drink but doesn't want to have to go through the effort of making your own mold wine, your own mold cider, getting all those spices and everything together, as lovely as it smells. Getting something like the iceberg mold is a really easy way to achieve those great tastes and sensations without the alcohol and without too much effort. All you need to do is pop in a little bit of uh orange wedge and maybe some cinnamon sticks whilst you're gently heating it up, and you are good to go. So make sure you go and check out iceberg when you open today's Advent Calendar Day email. And I will see you tomorrow for day 11. And in the meantime, say it with me cheers to a Christmas less intoxicated.
