Poppin' Cinema with JoeMama & Friends
Every week I'll share a film I've seen with a friend who hasn't, and then we'll talk about it. This is the podcast where I pop my friends' cinema cherries, one movie at a time.

It's Jason versus a Carrie ripoff in the seventh installment of the "Friday the 13th" franchise as everyone's lovable former camper hunts down a new crop of mindless teens - and one girl with telekinesis. What did Vinny think of this more supernatural outing?
Hello and welcome to Poppin' Cinema, Joe Mama and Friends, the podcast for Pop My Friends, Cinema Chairs One Movie at a Time. I'm back here with Vinny. Hello, Vinny.
SPEAKER_01Hello, Joe. I'm here on time as always.
SPEAKER_03As always, only an hour and half late, but yeah. So speaking of, so uh yeah, some life changes happen to you. You got a new apartment, so tell us about that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, it's been long overdue that we moved into our first place and had a little bit of independence. And uh can't lie, it's been really nice. Like we we haven't really had time to relax though, because we're just getting ready for a vacation coming up. But uh we're pretty moved in. We're waiting on our couch though. It's not getting here till August, so that sucks.
SPEAKER_03August.
SPEAKER_01So we're using chairs instead of couches. Wow. Yeah, we ordered it. Um yeah, it only it's actually only nine minutes from here. So it's pretty nice for the future.
SPEAKER_03Interesting. Yeah, cool. I'm happy for you guys.
SPEAKER_01Yep, got a little kitten too. He he seems to love the new place. Good. Yeah, we're hoping when he sees the couch when it gets delivered, that he doesn't think, oh, that's a big scratcher.
SPEAKER_03They they'll scratch it. Yeah. Cats always scratch those things. Yeah, still cute though. Yeah, for sure. So we're continuing on with our Friday 13th series. We're now into part seven, The New Blood, uh, released in 1988. It was directed by John Carol uh Buchler and stars Lara Park Lincoln, Kane Hodder, Susan Blue, and Terry Kaiser. So after being left for dead at the bottom of Camp Crystal Lake, Jason is set loose and embarks on another killing spree on a bunch of youths at a camp, uh, at the camp for a friend's birthday, and meets a girl with a deadly past of her own. So I'll go watch the movie, play the trailer, and when it's done, we'll be back to talk about the movie once it loads, because again, my YouTube kind of dies out after a while. See, there's an ad playing first again, or not? Four net pools has a huge pools. We are not sponsored by them, but you know, right now you can work on beforehand. And here we go.
SPEAKER_04You've been waiting for you.
SPEAKER_03First. So during filming, Kane Hodder's dressing room was a quarter of a mile down a dirt road. One night film uh filming ended at 2 a.m. and while still in the Jason costume, he decided to walk through the woods on the path to his dressing room. As he was walking, someone approached him and asked if he was with the movie. He didn't reply because he thought it was a pretty stupid question to ask as he was standing there in full Jason costume. When the man asked again, Cain took a little lunch at him and he grunt and grunted. The guy took off tripping and running. Uh the next day the director told Cain that the local sheriff was supposed to stop by, but he never showed. Wow.
SPEAKER_01That would have honestly been terrifying, though. Oh yeah. If you thought you ran into some psycho pretending to be Jason. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I like when they do these things, like play jokes on people like that. Yeah. Like very good. Like the girl in power five when she uh the waitress when she got stabbed whatever, and she's like walking around like pretending she had like so like the machete in her stomach or whatever, and people were like, What the heck? Uh so the film was originally intended to bring uh Jason Voorhees and Freddie Krueger together on screen for the first time, but when Paramount Pictures, which at the time held the rights to Fire 13th, and New Line Cinema, which holds rights to nightmare on Elm Street, couldn't agree behind the scenes. The script was rewritten to put Jason up against a telekinetic Tina Shepherd instead in it, uh instead, and a nod to the classic Stephen King novel Carrie.
SPEAKER_01It was getting a little ridiculous.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah. It's like yeah, but then uh 2003, Freddie and Jason finally meet up. So that's that's in our on our list eventually. It's coming up soon. Um so the guy that narrated at the beginning. Yes, his name is Walt uh Gourney. Okay, Crazy Ralph. On the first two movies.
SPEAKER_01Uh, at least they brought him back for something.
SPEAKER_03Yep. I was like, oh it's crazy Ralph. He sounds more sane now. Yeah. Uh so Lar Park Lincoln and Kevin Spiritus, who played Nick, did not get along while making the movie, uh, despite playing Love Interests, so much so that Spiritus wrote his own script for Fire 13th where Tina where the uh the movie was only a dream and his character Nick had killed Tina. Ironically, uh, they would later become good friends until Lar Park Lincoln's uh passing into uh 2025.
SPEAKER_01I wonder why they didn't get along. Um well just differing views.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well uh well back then his name was Kevin Blair, and uh he was actually a closeted homosexual in the 80s and had to hide his sexuality to get acting roles, which is why many viewers never saw the connection between him and Tina.
SPEAKER_01Gotcha.
SPEAKER_03So that's probably one of the reasons. Alrighty. Uh although playing the bitchy Melissa, actress Susan Sullivan was remembered as a sweet person with a kind and humble character. In the Crystal Lake Memories documentary was reported in 2012 that she had passed away from cancer, but they tracked the wrong uh but they uh tracked the wrong woman, and the actual the actress is still alive and living in California. Oh, good, good, good, good. Yeah, it's like oh we had uh Lar Park Lincoln passed away last year. It was really it was pretty sad. I was like, oh yeah. Poor thing. First uh she was the first like final girl to pass away. I was like, hmm.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I wonder why they do more final girls than final guys.
SPEAKER_03What do you think that is? I I don't know. What's your thoughts?
SPEAKER_01I have no idea. It's like like it's almost all aside from Tommy, but even then it was like him and his sister, and then some woman helping him in whatever film.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Pam and then Melissa in the last one. Yeah, it's just I don't know. It's kind of like a girl power. It's kind of like a trade-off because uh slosher films are known to be like more uh male-centric, the male gays. Yeah. Guess there's a lot of like tits and ass in these movies. And like women are mostly seen as the helpless, you know, the screaming victims running through the woods, tripping, falling.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So that they uh offset that with the final girl to show, like, well, some girls are weak, but some girls can be strong. Yeah. And stuff. So I was like, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I feel like if it was a final guy every time and they kept like failing, then people would roast them more. But because it's a girl, everyone's like, oh, it's just a woman.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Sometimes they kick ass, sometimes they just survive. Yeah. So uh the film set a record for the longest uninterrupted on-screen controlled burn in Hollywood history to accomplish this uh effect. They used a rigged apparatus to actually capture the ignition on film. In that moment, you're actually watching Kane Hodder truly being set on fire, an effect which normally accomplished at this time via trick photography. Hodder stayed on fire for a record setting 40 seconds.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_03And uh he's done this before. He did uh another movie, I can't remember what it was called, but he was set on fire there. He actually suffered like burns that he still has. Like when I met him, he still had like the burns. That's wild. Yeah. So he's he's a professional stuntman, so yeah. He's just that type of thing, but still it's pretty crazy. Uh speaking of which, he uh Kane Hodder did all his own Jason stunts in the film, including falling through the stairway and having a the porch roof fall on his head. Uh he's also the only only he is also the only actor to play Jason in more than one movie, and he also plays uh Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game, like the uh motion capture for the game. And he also did Michael Myers for the new Halloween game. So he is the uh pretty much the only actor that's played three horror icons.
SPEAKER_01That's honestly a really cool accomplishment, though.
SPEAKER_03It is pretty cool. It was also Jason in the the game too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and he was jumping through the window like a badass, too. Oh yeah. It's pretty cool to know he did his own stunt.
SPEAKER_03I met him, he's a great guy. Yeah, he was hilarious. When I told him my name was Joe James, he's like, Are your parents that like your parents lack that much uh like uh creativity? Joe James? What's that?
SPEAKER_02Like, Jason's have my name.
SPEAKER_01Is it even is it even Joseph or just Joe?
SPEAKER_03Joseph.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah. Joseph James.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but Joe James rolls off the tongue better. Yeah, it does. But I told him, like, well, my dad's name is James James. He's like, Are you fucking serious? Like, yeah, like what is wrong with your family? Like, he's like, James James? That's so unoriginal. Like, I didn't name him.
SPEAKER_01Seems like a cool dude.
SPEAKER_03Well, he was, he punched me in the face. Yeah. When we took the picture, he like actually put his like his fist like kind of like this, but oh my god, I hurt.
SPEAKER_01Is that hanging out there?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like I was like, oh, ow, awesome. I got punched by Jason. Uh so according to the documentary Crystal Like Memories, the house exploding sequence was going to be much longer and shot from different angles. However, the special effects guy screwed up and instead detonated all the explosives at the same time, not only making the explosion shorter, but also much stronger, destroying almost all cameras, lenses, and reels in the process.
SPEAKER_01A lot of money.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the seconds of footage shown in the film came from the only two reels that survived. Oh.
SPEAKER_01Imagine the director wasn't there that day, and then they have to call him, they're just like, Bosh, show a uh we lost a lot of shit.
SPEAKER_03What?
SPEAKER_01We have a bit of a situation.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. A little bit. So on a budget of $2.8 million, which is about $7.8 million today, the movie made $19,170,000, so about $54 million today. While still a success uh success, it's declined from the other Friday 13th movies.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03So the kill count for this one is 17, including Jason at the end. So quick recap part 111, part two, ten, part three, thirteen, part four, fourteen, part five, nineteen, so far the record, and then part six, eighteen.
SPEAKER_01I see.
SPEAKER_03So the kill counts are rising. Yeah. So let's get our take on the movie. What are your overall thoughts about it?
SPEAKER_01Uh this was another one of those where I kept trying to figure out if I liked it or hate or not hated it, but liked it or disliked it. Just a lot of it seemed unoriginal and just kind of following what we normally see, which that's normal, I guess. Like that's just how these movies are. But um some of the kills are really cool. Just again showing Jason's strength, like him squishing skulls, and then her in turn trying to squish his skull with her mind. That was that was pretty cool to see.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01And him I was wondering when he was chasing the dude through the woods if he was gonna was it Michael? Like, right, the dude whose birth it was. Yeah, Michael, yeah. Yeah. He was chasing him, I'm like, oh, he's not gonna catch him, he's probably gonna fall though. Then he threw the knife instead. I was like, oh not bad. Yeah. Yeah, so I I think the kills were cool. But I kept going back and forth. I was like, do I like this one? Do I not? But overall it it was it was good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It was good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Growing up, this was my favorite. Yeah. Like when I was younger, when I was not supposed to be watching these movies. I just liked it because Tina was like the tel kinetic and she was like kicking Jason's ass all all the time. Like it was pretty cool. Yeah. It's just like screaming, running, and like throwing something.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it it kept like it was cool, but it kept like taking me out of it. It's like it almost got a little ridiculous. But I was just like, use the force Luke. Like I was just like, I was like, what am I watching right now? Yeah. But like like overall it was it was very cool, but like her it was just comedic when she would like pull wires out of light bulbs and like do stuff like that. Like just funny, but like also cool. Yeah. Like the wire from the telephone pool.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The lamp. I mean the light. Yeah. Not the lamp, the light, uh also she did throw a lamp with a potter plant with a head on it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Whatever you got, whatever you got to throw, you just throw it.
SPEAKER_01That's what I'm saying. Like, were they trying to make this comedic? Or were they just trying so hard that it like ended up being funny?
SPEAKER_03I think it was like a trying so hard thing. I think it was they wanted to be more they wanted it to be more serious, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01I don't know. Yeah, I mean I thought like it was honestly kind of a cool direction to go, like her being able to fight him in a different way than we've ever seen. And like that aspect I really liked. Yeah. That it that was different. A lot of stuff was the same, but that was different. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03So then the film opens with uh Tina as a kid. Um her father beats his m her beats her mother. She goes to the the the boat, goes to Middle Lake, so the father runs out, is like, I'm sorry. She's like, I hate you. I wish you were dead. So this is like the first time she really has like telekinesis and she caused like the doc to collapse and her father to die. Yeah. Were you surprised by that sequence? Like, not like we exp you weren't expecting her to be telekinetic, were you? No, I was not. I mean I What were your thoughts when you saw that scene? Like, what the heck's going on?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was just like, does she have something weird going on? Or did like Jason somehow come to life and shake the crap out of the dock from below? And she grew up thinking she had powers, but she did actually have powers because we saw it demonstrated. Yeah. But I low key thought it was Jason underwater, like shaking it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. It's interesting because the timeline of these movies are so hard to decipher.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Because he liked um Tommy you know um got the rock and the chain run Jason's neck and send him to the bottom of the lake. Yeah. But it doesn't really show here if young Tina this happened before young Tina was there or after.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But then you see Jason anybody comes out, he's like, you know, he is uh a little bit worse for work. Yeah. So he's been down there for a while. Yeah, for sure. Don't really know how long.
SPEAKER_01I do kind of wonder. I mean, if she was a kid, like uh Jason obviously wasn't down there yet, maybe. Or maybe he was.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And then 20s. Twenties, so at least 10 to 12 years.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So I mean Tommy did a good job.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he did. See, that was cool. I I did kind of like the callback of the gas and the fire, but she did it in a different way, like with her mind. That was interesting. Like another thing, it it's like he was getting pissed on by the gas. Yeah. It was like funny. I was just like, I can't tell if I like this or if I don't, but like it was it was because it it was a different direction.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. That's what I liked about it. It was a different they took a different approach to this just the normal Yeah. Cause people say like, especially like part two and three, they kind of blend together because it's like the same thing. Yeah. Where this is like, you know, C's talking at the back, like, well, I haven't seen that before.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And it's like I kept like like obviously you need him to come back to life for more movies, but it's like every time it would look like he's dead, then they would stop and like try to do something else. He'd come back to life. I'm like, How many times? I'm like, How many times? Like, what can you do? Honestly, what can you do?
SPEAKER_03Right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So then uh Tina's an ad young adult now, she goes back to the cabin with her mom because their doctor says like it'd be a good place for her to work through her therapy. Yeah. So I've heard this before where people would go back to like a a traumatic a traumatic event. Yeah. Like they the doctors tell them to go back to it to face it. Yeah. Do you think that's like a good idea for someone to like get over their past trauma, or would it just be something that makes it worse for them? Or does it matter to the person?
SPEAKER_01I think it depends on the person because uh I'm trying to think of a real life example. Forget her name, but it's someone that Faith and I followed on social media where her husband died in a car accident that was pretty brutal, and she watched him like slowly die in the car because she survived. And her and her one friend drove back to that spot five years after the fact. So it's like I think it can work, but it honestly depends on what crap the person is seeing.
SPEAKER_03And how much they can handle.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, because like I I see it going either way. I could see it like being like if it goes wrong, then the doctor's stupid for recommending it. But if it goes right, they're like, wow, you're a genius. Thank God you're a doctor. Yeah, right. So it's like it just depends on the case, I guess.
SPEAKER_03Not this case.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, this I mean, I guess it it did help her in some way discover how to control her power more.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Cause at the beginning she had to like really work hard to do anything, but then she like towards the end kind of mastered it a bit. Yeah. And it was honestly kind of sweet.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's just you know, telling gas cans to open up and throw gas on someone to pee on them and nails to go flying into someone's head and yeah, I think too that because the whole movie is Dr. Cruz saying like um Tina's just like manifesting her father when uh Jason comes back. Yeah. But it seemed like she was didn't really I mean she kind of cared about being there, but she's like, Oh, I'm here. She didn't seem to like affect her any. Like they were throwing rocks in the water. She's like, Yeah, my dad died there. Anyway.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. She's like, Yeah, I don't want to talk about it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't want to talk about it. She's gonna walk away.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It it helped her like master her powers, but nothing else, really. Like, it just made her kit keep thinking about it, and like she she was saying stuff that was completely unrelated, and he was like, This is just delusions tied in the emotion of your father. Like, he was just an asshole. Oh, yeah. He thought he had it all figured out was gaslighting, talking about like I'm right, you're wrong, even though she's the one telling him the stuff. Yep. And then to make things worse, shields himself with her mother. Yeah. Like that, oh, that pissed me off. I was hoping that was like a vision she was having, like that Tina was having, but it was real.
SPEAKER_03No, it was real. And then lying about it. Yeah, well, we'll get we'll get him's uh event pretty soon. Yeah. There's a lot about him. Yeah. Yeah, so Tina goes to the doc to basically she's kinda almost godlike. Like she's wishing to bring her father back, and in the end she does. Yeah. But she kind of misses, brings back the wrong person. Yeah. I mean, I don't know how that happens, but I mean she still she doesn't know her powers yet. She just bring my daddy back up. Yeah. Jason, hi. So then Jason comes out and she passes out. So then Jason walks right by her, so why do you think Jason doesn't kill her?
SPEAKER_01I think he thought she died from what she like he watched her pass out and fall to the ground, so he's like, There's other other fish in the sea for me to kill. Yeah. That's the only reason I could think of.
SPEAKER_03I think he did because he's like, hey, you brought me back to life, here's the solid, I'll let you live. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Or he's like, maybe we'll work together someday.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's another thing too, because he leaves the uh the spike in the door. Yeah. That Cruz takes later on to make Tina look like she's a little crazy. First of all, so like the spear's there.
SPEAKER_01Are you gonna are you gonna talk about the timeline of that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so like um they she finds the spear, tells him like there's I bring this guy back from the the lake, you left the spike out there, and the cruise goes and looks first and he takes it, but he doesn't we don't know that he took it. Yeah. Because it's not there anymore, but she's like, it was right here. But then couldn't say she was crazy because there was the indentation in the wood where the spike was. Like, well, there's a something was here. I mean if it was just you know polished and clean, like, okay, well maybe she is crazy, but yeah, no, there's wood splintered in it, so they put it there. But I think he put it there too to kind of warn her too, to like, hey, this is my territory. It's like you brought me back to life. Okay, cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he he might have thought she was honestly like a serial killer of some sort too, for that, like because she obviously can do stuff that he can't, so like it's it's as if Jason had some respect for her in a way. Yeah. And then like when they look at each other before he gets electrocuted, he's just like, Really? Like he's just like, Come on, like, I've done this all
SPEAKER_03the stuff for you you're not appreciating her mind she's just like no you killed so many people kill my mother yeah like he's just like come on he's just like just let it go I know I'll kick your mom and like just let it go and she electricutes him right and also getting back to their parents something that's funny because in the end she brings back her father the right time yeah so he's been in that lake the whole time yeah it didn't really decompose well not only that but I mean it's a lake yeah they wouldn't have like bring him up to bury him they're just like oh he died in the lake he's in there somewhere this is go home yeah literally like you would think the police or ambulance were was called and they never recovered a body I'm kind of surprised about that yeah also they never tried removing Jason's body no I don't think anybody knew it was it was there yeah because Jason was out towards the center that's true I mean if people didn't dredge the lake they wouldn't know he was there. Yeah but you know well hey Mr Shepherd died like right on the dock so oh there's the dock and we had to clean it yeah get rid of all the debris in the water so there's the body let's just leave it there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah because like the only people that would know Jason's bodies out there is Tommy his Melissa yeah and then uh those kids that watched it happen. So it's like I mean I guess none of them would want to say because Tommy at least knows like it's paranormal he could just come back to life if we try to interfere not doing that again my buddy got killed at the cemetery.
SPEAKER_03Well I think he was still alive at the end of six so I think by all those years later he couldn't die. Yeah he was probably just sleeping yeah you've been there for like what 10 years or so he's probably bored just chilling at the bottom of the lake. Yeah it's kind of weird though how Jason has all the supernatural strength but he couldn't break a chain lock.
SPEAKER_01Yeah he's like I'll just wait it out it's too much energy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah it's like I'm tired I'm gonna take a nap. Yeah so then we meet the uh basically the uh body count people is uh Michael well Nick uh throwing party for his cousin Michael and his girlfriend and then Russell who owns whose uncle owns the cabin his girlfriend Sandra the second Sandra in the series one after the second movie you were saying how Tina's like wasn't there Tina before like yeah in part four one of the twins yeah and then Ben and his girlfriend Kate uh Eddie the nerd stoner david herky robin shy maddie and snobby social light melissa these are basically like you ever hear like tropes in horror movies?
SPEAKER_01Yeah these characters that's what the tropes are yeah the stoner and the lovers yep they're just there to die. Yeah so was any of them that stood out to you at all anything that stood out like I really really hated uh Melissa yeah I like with my guts like you did tell me like a few movies ago how like because we always related to like would we hang out with these people or interact answer is no for this one. No they could all pound pound salt.
SPEAKER_03Yep yeah I was saying if I was Tina I'd be like I'm gonna bring over the go next door for my cousin's probably like nah stay here. Yeah no thank you.
SPEAKER_01And she was so rude and like talking about like oh is this what you learned at the sideword or whatever she said. And I'm just like if somebody really went through something like whether you know what it is or not like you should not be a bully about that. Yeah. The only one I liked there was Maddie yeah the nerdy girl like I I'd gel with her we'd we'd get along yeah I mean Nick Nick seemed like a genuine dude yeah throughout the movie too it's well Nick is one of the survivors so it's just like all the all the people there just to die. Yeah out of those that group like Maddie I would I like Eddie because we're both nerds but he is way too extra like just shut up he was like I've oh that was funny actually when he said I've dealt with rejection before and then brings up some nerdy fact by uh like relating it to that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah like I'm like I've been rejected by the best science fiction publications in the country I'm like okay yeah it's crazy how historically bad he was at trying to make love it just looked awkward yeah no chemistry at all no and then Melissa was crushing on Nick and so she was trying to get with him by making fun of Tina and then trying to quote unquote get with Eddie to make him jealous and the whole time Nick's just like I don't like you.
SPEAKER_01She's just like nah like she just like it's like I'm into mental mental patience.
SPEAKER_03Yeah right I like the craziest but not that crazy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah but uh so do you think her character was overly mean to the point of being a caricature of a mean girl and did it make her character more insufferable yeah I I just really I could not stand her and I'm I'm like I want her death to be brutal and it it wasn't brutal enough it's like I was hoping the axe would like fly through then Jason would walk in take it out and then re-stab her like I was like come on really go for it and same thing with uh the doctor like his death with a like landscaping tool with a little saw I'm like oh just like tear him from the ass up like make it really graphic and brutal but he just stabbed him in the stomach and left I'm like damn it yeah I'm like I wanted so much blood I won't yeah I wanted him to suffer.
SPEAKER_03Well it's funny the 80s the MPAA were huge like when any Sasha movies came out they hugely neutered them yeah for to get NC17 but like now you watch this movie it's like apart from the like the nudity and the F bombs like this is almost be PG 13.
SPEAKER_01Yeah especially we just saw I saw Evil of Dead burn good lord I'm like yeah people are like getting decapitated and heads were talking and like all this other stuff happening and then this like oh no you can't see someone get stabbed like why like the 513th movies they're well known for being neutered by the MPAA like they hated them yeah it's like screw you guys yeah I know I I don't know maybe maybe it's because I'm becoming more sick minded and liking horror more I'm like more nice I want more more yeah more death yes yes let the heat flow through you yeah honestly it's happening so um Michael and his girlfriend get killed in the woods and then the only characters in this movie that aren't connected to anyone is Dan and Jane.
SPEAKER_03Yeah and uh so it kills Dan uh Jane's death is one of the more famous ones in the franchise yeah with her getting uh in the sleeping bag to the tree yeah which is pretty funny um so the thing would bug me is like I watched this movie so many times and when she crawls under she gets into the sleeping bag so Jason grabs her you know by the from the top where her head is so he pulls her out when he smacks her against the tree he's still holding it so when he smacks her it seems like her legs were the things that was hit the tree and not her head. Yeah but it's her head I asked him about that actually when I met him so I told him I asked him like so what was that he's like fuck you that's why thank you he's just like don't call that out yeah he's like whatever but um funny thing is uh they did the uh different scenes on it uh they had difficulty because the dummy and the fake blood inside was heavier than he thought it would be so it required a number of retakes because he kept swinging as hard as he could but no matter how hard he swung the sleeping bag he couldn't get it to look right by the final take he was so fed up with the situation that after he dropped the bag he kicked it angrily this is the shot that appears in the final film uh uh Hodder says this is one of his favorite kills uh it wasn't he was inspired by one of the screenwriters' urges to kill his own sister oh wow uh according to the white according to the writer I used to shove my brother into a sleeping bag when I was a kid I once had a fantasy of killing my kid's sister that same way I guess that's why he became so popular people can really relate to it okay yeah yeah that's interesting and intrusive thought yeah but um so then you know the more kills happen uh so funny thing is too about this movie um people call this movie uh um what's it called gay day the 13th gay the 13th because Nick uh spiritos was gay and then also the guy that played Ben was gay and um I think the guy the uh actor that played Russell was gay yeah but it was the 80s so no one knew it yet I kind of tell from Russell because when uh they had the one scene where they're sending a sign they're throwing the football Bunce just throw the ball he like throws it like wow even I throw better than that and I can't even throw a football yeah I don't do sports. So um first one's Russell and Sandra Sandra got the same death as Terry from part two not while no Terry went skinny dipping and then she came back out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah Sandra died while skinny dipping and then Russell got the axe to the yeah axe to the face yeah so yeah I wonder did he do you think he like drowned her or like strangled her I think he drowned her because she didn't look like too mangled up like she looked scratched a little bit yeah at least it's held her down yeah he's like this is how I died once I died this way once how I got decapitated once yeah now you could die yeah yeah but yeah those two characters were those characters and then uh Ben and Katie for me are the least memorable ones.
SPEAKER_03Yeah I mean Ben and Katie didn't appear until like a little bit after the next day I was like wait who are these people they're there too I'm like okay yeah like Ben gets his head crushed because Jason likes doing that. Yeah. But then Katie has a cool death who getting the uh noisemaker in the eye and you even hear like the yeah that was funny. You know that's cool. Their deaths are more memorable than the characters were for sure. But then Maddie as I was saying before she comes off as like the most sympathetic character of the group like the shy girl friends with Robin has hots for David with so does Robin uh Robin goes for it and lands him leaving Maddie to undergo a glam up to try to impress him so those are the things like she goes out to the woods to find him like why would you go in the woods? Like was he not in the house anywhere he was in he was in there and she's like oh hey David are you out here somewhere it's like okay so he finds uh she finds Jason runs to the the tool shed she does a good job uh c evading him for a while yeah like crawls underneath the wood when he she makes the noise crawls underneath Jason goes and looks for her there walks away she crawls back but then he like burst through the burst through the wall with a sickle and you said he liked her scream though I liked her scream.
SPEAKER_01Yeah well there were a couple in this movie um I forget oh who was the other person oh it was her yeah she had two screams yeah like both like someone actually being terrified or like yeah because uh she but she found Rosa's body when it fell in front of her screamed and then went inside and screamed before yeah it was honestly like good acting like more terrified and like more believable yeah I enjoyed that yeah I liked your character too yeah so I saw a thing online too talking about Maddie and Eddie like why didn't they just hook up?
SPEAKER_03They seem to have a lot more in common but instead they both went for people totally unattainable to them uh unless they changed their physical traits.
SPEAKER_01So this does this point to the desire that to go after what we can't have yeah and um also setting your bar too high or thinking you deserve more than what's already being presented. It's like just take what you can get sometimes. Yeah. And not in a bad way but like some people um will never be content and they'll live a life striving after something they'll never have it's just that's honestly a deep that could be a deep talk right there. It is yeah that that's like just a small example of like how a lot of people are just like oh no more more right yeah they talk about it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So yeah it's we often go after what we can't have when what we need is right in front of us. Yeah. Because I think they'd be a good pair.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Like Melissa had no interest in Eddie David had no interest in Maddie Maddie like did all this work. Poor thing I feel so bad for her to all this work to try to get to him and then no one even saw her. Yeah also I love the 80s hair that hair was so poofy. Yeah even um Michael's girlfriend had like the long poofy hair mic yep that's the 80s style 80s are the best style I wouldn't mind seeing 80s style like make a return somehow but I doubt it would be some people do it's more of a retro counterculture thing but yeah I'm trying to figure out what in 50 years what's gonna be the mark of the 2020s for fashion kids trying to bring back mullets and it just doesn't look right.
SPEAKER_01Oh god yeah you gotta have the hair for it you know what I mean it's like people with like straight hair try pulling off mullets and I'm like it just doesn't look right like I feel like if I grew up my like curly hair and then cut the sides a little bit I could have an actual mullet but I would never I can see it. Yeah I kinda can if I let my hair grow longer in the back yeah but uh well the one yesterday I was at the we were at the movies and I saw these two kids with mullets I'm like do you guys live in a trailer park somewhere that's what I'm saying it's like coming back somehow like because it was popular back then but like it just doesn't look right now on kids that don't have the right hair for it.
SPEAKER_03No they do not yeah they can't have the fashion of that so then Jason uh kills David and Eddie finally throws Robin out the second story window which is call back to part four where Tina the twin sister gets thrown out the window the only difference is for this one uh well the in part four Tina lands on the car yeah and all the window shatter where Robin just falls on the ground.
SPEAKER_01Yeah there's a lot of people that say that she could have survived that do you think that she could have yes I think she would have broken or dislocated a bone or two but it could be survivable but it looked like she hit the ground pretty hard and just right and you could hear like something in her back or neck snap like there was a sound. So I was like okay he threw her pretty hard pretty well yeah yeah well he's a zombie now so yeah survivable but not not that specific one because he he threw her with quite some force.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I still love how it was literally a ragdoll that fell yeah he's just the body's like oh that's not even real and also you can see the stunt double going through the window with it was a guy with her wig like yeah that's obvious. Yeah it's interesting like the Blu-ray how like more clear it is yeah because when David was in the kitchen and um the lightning strikes you see Jason in the back corner. Yeah I never saw that when I was watching the VHS or like even the DVD but like the lighting was like oh there's Jason. Yeah and then you said when Robin was in the David's room is like there's someone there and then there's it the head was sitting on the the bench thing like oh yeah you can see that really clearly now yeah I never noticed that actually I didn't notice that till today till today all the times I've seen this movie I never noticed and looked like oh shit is there.
SPEAKER_01It's like I was looking at it for like a long time I was like it looks like there's a person right there.
SPEAKER_03Like I wasn't even paying attention to her I was like something's there and then the camera cut and I was like wait are we not going to acknowledge that and then it showed again yeah it's like you looked at me like I was crazy you were just like a person and I'm like I said yeah I was like what and like oh shit yeah there's someone there 30 or so times I've seen this movie I'm like I never noticed that till now yeah so then um so all the kids are dead so we got uh Mrs. Cruz and not miss uh Mrs. Shepherd and Dr. Cruz in the woods looking for Tina because she ran off and we we got the part where uh Jason finds them and I can't remember that weapon Jason even had do you know what that was like what's Kellogg? With uh Amanda the Mrs.
SPEAKER_01Shepherd Tina's mom it was like a um cutting shear thing or it was some type of like spaded tool it was long though yeah yeah I have no idea but it I feel like I've seen it before like it's an actual thing people use but they use it very well as a weapon. Yeah that that kill is probably my least favorite of any is the Doctor shielding like I I'll never get over that. Yeah he was a coward.
SPEAKER_03Yes and she even calls him a coward before that and then he kills her pretty much a shield yeah which is the second time in the m in the series that Jason kills another mother. Yeah. But I think by this time since then being a zombie he doesn't really have any care about mother like Jason's mother thing but it does come back later on.
SPEAKER_01So I guess he does but yeah I I do think it was pretty good screenwriting how um like the doctor shields with the mother but then it shows Nick shielding her daughter like when Jason comes at them in the house he gets in front of her so it's like the opposite I mean Nick shielding Tina?
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01He said Nick shielding his daughter I'm like wait what daughter no I was shielding like her daughter you know oh yeah her daughter yes yes yes okay yeah yeah so I I thought it was cool to like see like the doctor was a dick and use the mother as a shield but then he became the shield Nick did yeah which just seemed like it showed the difference between a genuine guy and a horrible guy with a mother and a daughter.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah. I loved her the uh the actress name was Susan Blue I don't know if you know her or not she does a lot of voiceover work like cartoon animated stuff. Yeah uh she's supposed to pay much for the Transformers movie in 1986. I don't have you ever seen it I still have not no oh my god I know the best soundtrack ever. Yep. But yeah she did a lot of that that voiceover work and also the guy that played Dr. Cruz you ever seen uh Weekend at Bernie's no I haven't you've heard of it yeah I feel like it sounds familiar it was like uh these two guys uh find this um other guy dead and they kind of like use him as a prop to like because he was like a wealthy guy so he like we carry him around make him act like he's alive yeah that's the same actor the dead guy is Dr. Cruz it's like okay there's a sequel too but um yeah so they're both dead uh Tina finds the mother her mother dead and she goes into full carry mode yeah like you said it took you away from it I liked it yeah like different I feel like Jason was not expecting it yeah like when he sees her on the street and like the trees just come wrap around him he's like looking down looking up like what the hell yeah and then even in the house when um the mask was breaking he's like what is going on it's like how you doing this yeah I think maybe because I've seen so many movies with like powers like that it like it took me out of it but I could see like you probably saw it when it came out or like clip soon after I'm sure like sometime in the 90s you was yeah nineties yeah so it's like I could see like growing up seeing it at that time with the materials they had to make movies like how it'd be way like cooler like you'd be fully in it but me it's like it kept taking me out of it but I was like I could see how it was cool though. Yeah oh yeah yeah yeah because after seeing you know Jason just even the final girls I mean they fight back but it's not like when that Jason felt he was uh in danger yeah but I think Ratina he definitely felt like he was he met his match yeah then he gets on fire and you know the house falls on him he house explodes on him and then the dead father grabs him and pulls him back to the lake. Yeah. But what'd you think about the when um another cool thing I liked about this one is the uh the makeup effects on Jason like what'd you think about that?
SPEAKER_01He looked pretty cool like a genuine zombie or monster or whatever you want to call him it was very very cool effects and they definitely put a lot of effort in his look.
SPEAKER_03Yeah yeah yeah especially when the mask came off and they see him like ooh that's really good. Yeah I kind of like I mean I know how he'll probably have the mask on in the future again because it's iconic but like I honestly the no mask look is just way more menacing oh yeah I I like it a lot you could see emotion and expression oh yeah he was pissed off yeah that's the first time you really saw Jason like react like normally in other ones he reacts like a kid like or an animal like tilting his head this one he was like getting heated I'm like hell yeah I want I want an aggressive really mad Jason he was pissed off yeah he's like what how is this happening what are you doing to me he's like you're embarrassing me right this is my movie right I'm the killer yeah I love like even too like the back you see his back the spine everything and yeah just the whole makeup top to bottom stuff great yeah of all of all the movies of like that uh this one in part four I like yeah the look yeah yeah but uh so like I said Tina just goes all out on him all this stuff happens so then she wishes her father back he comes up from the lake again why his body is still there no idea also looks very you know he's been up like maybe a day yeah so he grabs Jason wraps the new uh new uh chain around his neck and pulls him under so Jason's gone again so this is make Tina kind of godlike in the fact that she can bring people back from the dead yeah like that's pretty crazy yeah it's it's like what what can't she do?
SPEAKER_01It's like she had is it is it telekinetic yeah yeah telekinesis yeah yeah yeah so she had that and She was able to see visions and see into the future like her mom was gonna die and see that the one dude die that she had never met, like the cousin Michael. So it's like, what can't she do? Yeah, basically, you don't really know the limit to her powers because she knows a lot.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's pretty crazy. It's like almost OP there. Yeah. So then the first three films uh in the series each featured a new protagonist. The next three sequels were the Tommy Jarvis trilogy. Yeah. So the new blood uh was the intended for Tina to uh have her own um sequels. Yes, but you don't see her again after this one. So would this be was would this have been an idea you would like to see her going up against them some more, or do you think one was enough?
SPEAKER_01Um I feel like you can't do too much more aside from like her doing or her grabbing more things with her mind, like more ways to hurt him. But I I can't see it going farther than one without getting old.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because I mean how much more can you do to him?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think I think it was a one and done, cool, new way of fighting Jason.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Yeah, I agree. Although the next two movies in the series are kind of well, well, the next one, I don't know if you're gonna like the next one at all. It is silly, though. It is unintentionally funny, I think. Yeah. What what year was the main 89. Okay. The last of the eighties. Yeah. And also, um, like parts one through nine was from eighty to eighty to eighty nine, so basically one year. Yeah. But then uh the ninth one is until ninety-three. That's not bad. That's not bad. The eighth one uh was received. And then ninety three, and then the next one was Freddie vs. Jason in no Jason X in 2003. Yeah. And then Freddie vs. Jason in 2000. No, no. Jason X was 2000, Freddy Jason was 2003, and then the remake was 2009.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh, uh, they put out the trailer for Crystal Lake. Yeah. Um, it's a new series on Peacock.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yes. Yeah, I actually did see that. I also saw another trailer for a not a prequel, but something different. Um, the I Am Rocky.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah. I don't know how that's gonna be. Yeah. If like the that actor's trying too hard to be some of us just alone. Yeah. When I heard him, like, ooh, that's okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm I'm probably gonna watch both though, like the Crystal Lake and the I Am Rocky, just to because I've been like obsessed with like like I told you I was re-watching the Rocky movies and like researching like how he had no money to his name, and he wrote the script in three days, and he was like, I want to act in it. They offered him like 20 grand for someone else to act and to give the movie rights over, and he was like, No, like I want to do this, if it fails, it fails. And he's obviously successful. Yeah, it's like I was like, I'd I'd actually like to see it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, exactly. Cool. But yeah, Crystal Lake is gonna be a prequel where it's um young Mrs. Voorhees after Jason drowns.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, which that's sweet.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because people were first people were upset, like, what's not Jason? I'm like, I mean, the series was not supposed to be Jason, yeah. It was only supposed to be a series, it was supposed to be one movie, yeah. But this is so wild, like, well, we gotta keep this uh cash cow going.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But Linda Cardinelli, I think she's good, she's really good at like um I mean she was in Scooby-Doo and then uh Avengers, says Hawkeye's wife, yeah, and everything. So things have pulled off like the trailer looks sweet. I'm like, I'm all for it. Yeah. Can't wait, December comes out. Very excited.
SPEAKER_01Is it gonna be in theaters? No, it's a series. Just on oh wait, on on Peacock. On Peacock, yeah. Oh, I have Peacock actually.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, me too. Yeah, sort of, but yes, we A24 is doing it too, so that's like very um, they're very well known for thick character-driven movies. Yeah. So it'll be interesting. I'm excited for it. 100%. So uh back to this movie. Uh so one of the major complaints of the movie is that it's basically a poor man's version of the final chapter. So both take the concept of teens going to a cabin to party, both even have a victim being thrown out the window. Uh, Maddie wearing a blue dress, reminiscent of Trisha's dress in the fourth film. Uh, they also have a house of teenage parties and another house next door with a family. So, do you agree with that or do you think you think that's just a stretch?
SPEAKER_01Honestly, I I do agree with it. Like, because like I said, I did feel like a lot of it was unoriginal and just kind of like copy and paste of old movies put together because they know what people want at this point. Um, they're like, no matter what we put out, people will watch it. I feel like is their mindset. But like they added their new stuff too, but yeah, I do feel like they dished out a lot of the same stuff.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I could see that. Yeah, it's a lot of rehashing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure. Just not as good. Yeah, it's like, okay, how big is this like really? Yeah. Like how many places are actually surrounding this small crystal lake? Yeah. Right. It's crazy. Yeah, like how many houses are out there in the middle of nowhere.
SPEAKER_03Well, you've seen my map in the bathroom.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're like neighbors that never met each other. Yeah, I was looking at it while I was using the bathroom. I was just like, how much can they really do?
SPEAKER_03A lot, apparently. Yeah. I mean, they also get to Manhattan from there. Yeah. We'll talk about that next time.
SPEAKER_01I assume they returned uh Camp Blood itself soon, sometime, maybe.
SPEAKER_03No. No, no, actually, yeah, there's no more Camp Blood. Yeah. Guess part eight's in Manhattan or a boat.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Then part nine is all over town. Jason X is in space. Freddie vs. Jason. Well, I guess it's the camp, but it's more so just about them. And then the remake, okay. The remake is back to camp, but yeah. It's a remake, so but yeah, so it's interesting. So talk about how Melissa, Dr. Cruz, pretty much a lot of those people on are unlikable in this movie, except for Tina, Nick, um Maddie, and Mrs. Shepherd, really. Yeah. So like other movies in the franchise, like the last movie, like you had Court, uh, Paula, Sissy, like none of the ones in part six were very none of them were unlikable.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But this is like the beginning of like part eight, you'll find some more unlikable people and stuff. So this is getting to the point of the movies where people were rooting for Jason more. Yeah. Where like in the first couple movies, it's more, oh, we care about these people, and now it's like, kill them, kill them all.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like me. I'm like, I'm like literally kill them, make it more brutal.
SPEAKER_03Yep, more brutal, more death. So, why do you think that is?
SPEAKER_01Like, do you think we just like don't care about these people anymore? Or I think we've grown to just like if you fall into a horror trope and you do something dumb that usually gets you killed, I'm like, you just deserve to die. Yeah, because you've seen it so many times, especially since it's the same series. Like, I'm like, Yeah, they're dead. Oh, oh yeah, we're gonna separate. Oh, where are you? Stop messing around. I'm coming out.
SPEAKER_03And I'm like, Well, even with Nick, he just telling Tina's like, you know, we need to get everybody together. I'm like, well, they're all dead, but they know that. Yeah. They keep he kept saying that, and then um he's like, I don't want to leave you alone. He's like, just go next door, I'll be right here. I'm like, So you're leaving her alone? Yeah. Like that's you just say you don't want to do that. And he's just okay, bye.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's again, it's like, what more can you do really start doing?
SPEAKER_03Like, yeah. Oh, yeah, forgot to talk about Melissa's death too. Like you said it was kind of whatever, but I liked it. Get an axe to the head before uh open the door. Oh hi, Jason. Thrown across the room, thrown across the room over the TV.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, that's another one. It's like because of how unlikable she was. I'm like, yeah, I'd like really kill her, like do something brutal. And I guess it was like me thinking that an axe to the head isn't brutal is just showing how like messed up our brands are.
SPEAKER_03Yep. You know what I mean? Exactly. Oh yeah. So for this one too, you think um, so part five, well, but there's three people that survived, so teenage, young adult, young adult Tommy, uh Pam and young Reggie, and then part six was Tommy and Melissa. Now this one was Tina and Nick. Yeah. So do you think part five and six, do you think Tommy was the stronger character, or do you think the women were?
SPEAKER_00Hmm.
SPEAKER_03Actually, we're part four because Tommy and Trish too, but Tommy was a kid, so I mean we can't really compare strength on that one.
SPEAKER_01I feel like Tommy's character progression to be able to like buck up and finally fight Jason again, like makes me want to say him. Like he progressed to that.
SPEAKER_03I don't I don't know. I think part five, Pam was actually the stronger one. Yeah. Because when Tommy saw quote unquote Jason, say quote unquote, because it was Roy, he just kind of froze. Roy just slashed him, and Pam got out a chainsaw and was trying to do something. Yeah. So yeah, but and then this it wasn't Megan. Yeah, Megan in part six, she was kinda kind of badass. She got him in the end. Yeah. Like after she thought Tommy was dead in the lake, she went back and Jason pulled her and he she did the uh rotor from the boat to cut his neck and everything. I'm like, okay. But this one, well, this one, Tina definitely took the heavy work. Yeah. Nick was just kind of like frilling around most of the time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's why like I'd say girls for the most part did better. But like Tommy, once he got, I guess once he leveled up and wised up a little bit, he he did pretty good. But I guess at the end of the day, a woman did save him. So that point has to go to them.
SPEAKER_03Yep. So we're gonna play a different game for this one instead of ranking the final characters. We're gonna do uh this or that.
SPEAKER_01This or that, okay. Because uh it's hard to now. It is, yeah.
SPEAKER_03There's a lot of more final characters. Yeah. So the so pick one of the two Alice or Ginny. Alice from part one, Ginny from part two. Okay, Ginny or Chris from part three.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna go Chris.
SPEAKER_03No. No, no, no, you need Ginny. Okay, so Ginny or Trish from part four. Still Ginny. Okay, Ginny or young Tommy from part four. Jinny. Okay, Ginny or Pam from part five.
SPEAKER_01I didn't start liking I like Pam, but Jenny.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna say Pam Pam fell over she's gonna start crawling away.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03They're yeah, she's one of those. Yeah. Okay. Ginny or Reggie from part five.
SPEAKER_01Oh, the kid.
SPEAKER_03The kid, yeah. Uh Jenny. Yeah. Ginny or teenage Tommy. Jenny. Okay, Jenny or adult Tommy from part six.
SPEAKER_01Uh I don't know. He grew up a bit and did good, but it's Jenny. Yeah, that's Jenny or Megan from part six. Remind me of Megan? Okay, the cops daughter. Yeah, okay. She honestly was kind of cool. Like riding around. Her driving was impressive. Driving, yeah. She seemed pretty fearless. Yeah. Gonna go Ginny.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_03Uh Ginny or Nick from this one. Jenny. Okay, now Ginny or Tina.
SPEAKER_01Oh man. That's tough. Because one of them has a psychological aspect and seem pretty fearless. And the other one just going through a lot of stuff and learned her powers. I don't know. That's that's a really, really hard one. Ah. Ginny, because of the psychological aspect. Alright, so Ginny is still Yeah. It's I don't know. It's I don't know why. It's just so hard to pick against her. I don't know what's holding me back.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Well, Tina, but also Tina has a leg up on anyone, honestly. Yeah. I mean, she like I see she's OP. There's no one that can really go up against her, but yeah. Yeah. I appreciate the gin the Ginny love though. I she's one of the favorites of the whole like even in horror in general. Yeah. She's like one of the best final girls in all of them. So you picked right. Okay, so Friday 13th, part one or part two. I'll go two. Okay, part two or part three? Two. Part two or part four. The final chapter.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, four. I'll go four.
SPEAKER_03Okay, part four or part five, a new beginning. Four. Okay, part four or part six, Jason lives. Six is pretty good. Okay, and then six or seven.
SPEAKER_01Six.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, figure it. Yeah. So this one's kind of like would you say this is like a middle of the road or like um more bottom tier?
SPEAKER_01I'd say middle. It's like it's one of those that's honestly directly in the middle. It's like I enjoyed a lot of it and didn't enjoy some of the repeated, so it's like not a bad movie by any means. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And your least favorite is still part three or part five?
SPEAKER_01Uh I think five. I feel like I was more lost and like it just felt like the movie happened, but it was hard to follow.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03The only thing I like about part five is the characters. Yeah. Like Ethel and Demon. And it's not even like the main characters, like the kids at the halfway house river, and like they're unmemorable, like, you know, Ethel and her son. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Younger eat my stew. You make the best stew, Ma.
SPEAKER_01I know. And like the best part of part three was honestly kind of a different version of the like it was like the couple that was just disgusting and like live it out in the country. Oh yeah. Like him snacking on just disgusting crap. Yeah. Not using toilet paper. Yeah. Yeah. It's like those that's that was the best part about it. It was just a disgusting side piece of the movie.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_03Now it's not for your favorite game show, first time jitters. All right.
SPEAKER_01I feel like I'm gonna get one.
SPEAKER_03Recap. Part one, three of five right, part two, three of five, right, part three, two of five, right, part four, two of five, right, part five, one of five, right? And last one, three of five.
SPEAKER_01I think it's gonna be one today. Oh, we'll see. There was a lot I like feel like I was like, what would he even ask me? Like, what can I pay attention to? This one. All right, first question.
SPEAKER_03What is Tina's father's name? Tina's father.
SPEAKER_01Oh, see? Oh my goodness. Let's go with Rick. John. John. Okay. So that's my father-in-law's name. That's pretty horrible that I didn't get that.
SPEAKER_03Wow. You hearing this, Faith? So um, when they're driving to the cabin, uh, Tina has a nickname for Dr. Cruz. What is the nickname that she has for him? Is it shrink?
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_01Uh I'm gonna go with that. It's not that though. Bad news, Cruz. Bad news. Yep. That's one third.
SPEAKER_03All right. Oh for two. Um, so what color is the mat sticks that Tina moves with her mind? Blue. Okay, got one! Yeah, yes, yes, yes. So when uh Tina and Nick are talking, Nick says he's from what city?
SPEAKER_01Pittsburgh.
SPEAKER_03Okay, two for two.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03Alright, so the tiebreaker here. What color was Maddie's high heel shoes?
SPEAKER_01Maddie's high heel shoes?
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_01I thought you were gonna say what color is sleeping bang. Maddie.
SPEAKER_03Uh remind me who was Maddie? The nerd. When she was in the tool shed, she like pushed she tossed her shoes up and she crawled underneath, and she's like holding her shoes up. And this is not because you see them a lot.
SPEAKER_01I feel like it was like a lighter color, but I can't like uh. Is that your answer? Yes. White. White, okay. I I knew they were light. I was just like, what are those? So you got two out of five right. Almost, yeah. Almost three.
SPEAKER_03Almost three.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Alright, so Rotten Tomatoes from history, part one, seventy critics, part two, twenty-nine, seventeen for three, twenty-five for four, fifteen for five, and fifty-nine for six. What is the critic score for seven? Eighteen. Uh thirty-one. Really?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_03So audience scores for part one, sixty, part two, forty-nine, three, forty-two, four, fifty-two, five, twenty-six, six, fifty-four. And now this one for audience? Forty.
SPEAKER_01Okay. That was pretty close.
SPEAKER_03Alright, so the movies movies remade with all puppets but one, who is a human.
SPEAKER_01Leave. Tina. Okay. I feel like keep her with a human because of the power. I mean, it would be fun to see a Muppet action with powers, but yeah, Tina.
SPEAKER_03I kept Jason. Yeah. Okay. Like blow him up.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, wait, yeah, that would be funny, dude. Yeah. Yeah. I should have picked Jason.
SPEAKER_02He killed him. Run, Kermit.
SPEAKER_03Anyway, so that's the time we have for today. Thank you, Vinny. We're almost uh done with the franchise. Part seven. What do you think of the whole franchise so far?
SPEAKER_01Very, very cool. And like a lot of it does repeat and it does fall into those horror tropes, and like I'll call them also stereotypes. Like just a lot of it's getting predictable, but it's it's not to the point where it's not enjoyable at all. Like I'm still really enjoying watching them, and I'll rewatch them for sure. Good.
SPEAKER_03I'm glad you're enjoying it enjoying it still.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I think I saw they're all on Paramount, or that might be um one through eight are on Paramount. Okay, yeah. I mean, I'll definitely movies I would fall asleep to.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I fall asleep to all the time. Yeah. But yeah, because one through eight is Paramount owned, and then uh part nine is when it switched over to Newline, which is why that they could do the Friday and Chasing for that one because they were both on New Line by then.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So parts nine, ten, Fravers, Chasing, and remake are really hard to find online. Yeah. Not online, but on streaming because I don't think they have like an actual home. But yeah. All right, thank you again, Vinny. And until next time, for everyone else, to remember stay fresh.
