Hello, everybody. This is Deacon Louis Zimlik here in the Diocese of Kalamazoo. We're glad you're with us here today for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity podcast, where we'll read the readings from today's Mass. And it's quite beautiful too when we kind of look at last week being Pentecost and the giving of the giving of the law for our Jewish brothers and sisters. And I want to apologize too to my Jewish brothers and sisters out there, you know, because as I read more about this, you know, this 50 days or 49 days after Passover was this um, and they don't even like calling it a Jewish Pentecost, right? Because it is Shabbat, it is the feast of weeks celebrated 50 days after Passover. Actually, I think it's 49 days after Passover. But it is this um, you know, this very close walk that we walk with our brothers and sisters of other faiths, of Abrahamic faiths. But, you know, we have to examine ourselves and our consciences to know are we loving and open to all? Right? Are we loving and open to all? And uh, you know, we we all fall short of the glory of God, but my brothers and sisters, there's so much work we need to do in the love department, right? On on loving each other. And I know that the Holy Catholic Church is one of the most beautiful in the world. It's just it's uh for me, it's it's heaven on earth, you know. Once you minus the people out, right? And uh, you know, of course, we had uh the encyclical from Holy Father, uh Pope Leo, which I encourage people to to read that, you know, it's it's very good, you know, even though most of it's on AI and things like that. But really, you know, it's um the important thing is is you know, I own a local business too, and you know, they talk about that. They talk about uh subsidiarity of really buying local and keeping your economy local, working local the best you can. And don't work eight days a week, you know. Sometimes it seems like eight days, seven, eight days. You know, I was noticing the the Amazon trucks and the even the postal service delivering Amazon packages and people's packages. On Memorial Day, it was sickening. So, you know, try to buy your stuff locally and go pick it up. You know, I know gas is five bucks a gallon, but the price is coming down too. So there, I got all that goofy stuff out of the way. Not that the Shabbat stuff is goofy stuff because um the other stuff is goofy stuff, you know, the business stuff. You hear that music? That is the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist. That's the Christmas album. I know I've missed that for the last couple of weeks, too. Sometimes I do my podcast from my office, sometimes I do it from my home. I record it and then post it up on the internet. And so uh sometimes I don't have all my materials with me. And, you know, my theology of the body stuff too. I don't have that with me, and it's so important. You know, our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and uh so important. So, okay, so here we go. Summer's getting off to a start here, even though it's not quite summer yet. I don't think it's summer until uh I don't know, summer begins, I think, on Father's Day. Somewhere around Father's Day, the uh 21st. But here we are, the 31st, um, May 31st, 2026. It is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And our reading, our first reading is from the book of Exodus. Um the goofy people in Rome did some editing on that, so we're gonna talk about that. And of course, it's editing out you know, holy words like kneeling, and it's just so goofy, you know. And just after I just got done complimenting how great the church was, except for the people, right? And so we've got some intellectuals in Rome or Washington, it's Rome, you know, they're they're the ones who are setting these readings up, but it's just uh we'll talk about it. We'll talk about it, but I'm gonna read through it just to let you know, look at those numbers every single week and see if there's stuff that's been edited out. I'm not asking you to bother your pastor about it or your deacon or your priest or your bishop, but just to say, why do they keep why do you guys keep doing this? You know, and and then you know, I've I've talked to people in Washington and and nobody answers my mail from Rome. But um, they just they just they do it because they think that they're doing the right thing, that by softening the word, and and it's gonna be very interesting because uh as we as we read the scriptures today, because God says quite plainly, you know, it's like last week there was the gospel reading about Jesus cursing the fig tree, you know. And um you know, we have to be careful of what we think we're demanding of God, that God do this and do that, you know. There's another gospel, you know, to come in that I sit at your right and your left, Lord. Jesus is like, it's not mine to give. You know, if these things have been appointed, there they're you're not the only person on planet earth that needs tending to, see. And but we think we don't think that. We think, oh no, it's all about me. I'm all that in a bag of chips, and everything should happen perfectly for me. It doesn't. Trials and tribulations. I have trials and tribulations. We have trials and tribulations as a as a small business in the age of a big business, you know, which has always been. I'm not complaining, it's always been this way. Always, you know, before it was you know, Costco, and even though I'm you know, I'm I like some of the stuff from Cotton, I don't buy everything from Costco though. So here we go. Drink of water. And those are not advertisements either. Okay, here we go. Book of Exodus, chapter 34, verse 4b through 6. Then they skipped seven. We're gonna read it at the end though. And then eight and nine. Early in the morning, Moses went up Mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, taking along the two stone tablets. Having come down in a cloud, the Lord stood with Moses there and proclaimed his name Lord. Thus the Lord passed before him and cried out, The Lord, the Lord, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity. Moses at once bowed down to the ground and worship. Then he said, If I find favor with you, O Lord, do come along in our company. This is indeed a stiff-necked people. Yet pardon our wickedness and sins, and receive us as your own. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. And we are a stiff-necked people, are we not? Yes, we are. We are but worms. Okay, our our responsorial psalm is from Daniel, and of course, there's plenty of songs like psalms from Daniel, and this week we're our psalm, our song is from Daniel. Daniel chapter 3, verses 52 through 56. Glory and praise forever. Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers, praiseworthy and exalted above all forever, and blessed is your holy and glorious name, praiseworthy and exalted above all for all ages. Glory and praise forever. Blessed are you in the temple of your holy of your holy glory, praiseworthy and glorious above all forever. Glory and praise forever. Blessed are you the throne of your kingdom, praiseworthy and exalted above all forever. Glory and praise forever. Blessed are you who look into the depths from your throne upon the cherubim, praiseworthy and exalted above all forever. Glory and praise forever. Our second reading is from Second Corinthians chapter thirteen, verses eleven through thirteen. Brothers and sisters, rejoice, mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the all the holy ones greet you. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. The word of the Lord, thanks be to God. It says right at the end. And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. I said it at the as we say it at the Mass, or the one that priest says it. It's very interesting. Okay, our gospel today on this Trinity Sunday is the Gospel of John, chapter 3, verse 16 through 18. I'll see, John 3, 16, right? But it's good to read all of it. It's very good. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John. Glory to you, O Lord. God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish, but might have eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. The gospel of the Lord. Well, my brothers and sisters, welcome. My name is Deacon Louis Zimlik here in the Diocese of Kalmazou, Michigan. We're glad you're with us here today on this Holy Trinity Sunday, the solemnity of the most holy trinity. And uh got some great um thoughts for us today. Uh so so do not judge people, right? Be prayerful for people. Try not to judge people. You know, I I struggle with this too because I'm a human being just like you all, and uh, you know, a righteous person falls seven times a day, and I think I fall 20. So it's um really keep that in mind. Always keep getting back up. So I I I I had this little bit of a revelation here that is is your life an explanation point, you know, explanation mark, you know, yay, or is it a question mark, right? Because the Holy Spirit is inside of you, right? So explanation, a straight line and a dot. Question mark is a kind of a crooked line, right? And then a dot. And sometimes our lives can be that way. Our communication with God can be that way, kind of this twisty, twisty thing, right? This little bend in it, you know, to the left or the right. Maybe our politics are in there, maybe our sin life is in there, right? You know, maybe my my internet search life is in there. And and I don't have this good, straight-line communication with Jesus, with the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. And that has been instilled in you from your baptism. Baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, baptized priest, prophet, and king. All of us. And so we need to try to act that way. Okay, here we go. All right, hold on to your hats or your hair, or here we go. So this renewal of the tablets, right? So first tablets got broken last week, right? Or a week before, and we think about that, the the giving of the law, right, for Moses and how Moses reacted, right? Moses reacted in in anger, right? So God gives him another chance. And see, this is this is how God is merciful to us. And and you know, we get hung up on this idea that you know, God is punishing me. Well, maybe maybe you deserve to be punished, maybe I deserve to be punished. I think about that sometimes. And I think it's good for us to think about. But God is a God of love, and sometimes any punishment that we receive is because he loves us. You know, think about it even with your own children. You you know, you hate to you know punish your child, but the thing is that you don't want them to die either, right? And you don't want them to hurt other people, you don't want them to go to prison, right? So sometimes you have to be stern with them, and sometimes children don't find out until they're 30, 40, 50. That's like, oh my gosh, my mom and dad, they weren't so bad, right? But also don't run away, don't run away from your family. So here we go. This this 4B that was left out, and this is very interesting because it doesn't let us it. This this line of 4A says, Moses then caught two stone tablets like the former. See? So this is the second set Trinity. This is the second chance we're getting right, because God is a God of second chances, and third, and fourth, and fifth. How many times you forgive us? Seven times seventy. If you're still alive, if you're still alive, he forgive you, right? Moses then cut the stew tab two stone tablets like the like the former. See, so slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity. Okay, now this verse seven, which is totally left out, this is really sad. Okay, continuing his love for a thousand generations and forgiving wickedness, rebellion, and sin, yet not declaring the guilty guiltless, but bringing punishment for their parents' wickedness on children and on the children's children to the third and fourth generations. My brothers and sisters, let's be serious. If if there are problems, you know, my grandfather was not a good guy. He's he's he he was not a good guy. You know, was he remorseful in the end? I'm sure he was. But the whole thing is that it causes reverberations, it causes problems, it causes trauma. I think that's the word most commonly used today, and it's a good word to use, you know. I mean, if your mom and dad didn't raise you or you've got you know family issues like that, I'm sorry. But you know, some of these things happen in our lives, and it doesn't mean that God hates you or anything like that. It means that these problems happen, and we do our best to deal with them. And some people have real problems with their moms and their dads, you know, after a divorce, and you know, the the you know, people saying even people even say it today. Well, maybe you'd be better off not married at all. It's like, well, you know, the children will adjust. Well, maybe not. Maybe they won't adjust. Maybe it will be hell for them. And these are the things we have to consider, the things we have to think about, the things we have to discern. This question mark, changing it into an explanation point, a good thing, something to be focused on. Do we pray? Do we take our family to church? You know, whether you're Catholic or not, do you are you a Christian? Have you been baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit? Are you on the path heading towards the Catholic Church? Are you on the path at all? Do you believe in right or wrong? All of these things. Okay. So that's really good. So there's also no catechism teaching. Well, let me go to that. Let me there's a couple of catechism teachings on this too, which is really good. Um, God is merciful and gracious. Then the Lord passes before Moses and proclaims Yahweh, Yahweh, a God of mercy and glory, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Moses then confesses that the Lord is a forgiving God. Exodus 34, 34, 5 through 6 and 9. The divine name, I am, or he is, express God's faithfulness. Despite the faithlessness of men and women and our sin and the punishment it deserves, he keeps steadfast love for thousands by going so far as to give up his own son for us. God reveals that he is rich in mercy by giving his life to free us from sin. Jesus reveals that he himself bears the divine name. When you have lifted up the Son of Man, you will realize that I am. That's 210 and 211 of the catechism. And get all these in the um on our podcast we list all the catechism teachings, which is are quite beautiful, my brothers and sisters. So here we go, 2 Corinthians chapter 13, communion of the Holy Spirit. Receiving Holy Communion is so powerful, my brothers and sisters, the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. And only in the Catholic Church, right? Because the only true priesthood, see, everybody else has gotten rid of it, you know, gotten rid of the sacraments, gotten rid of baptism, gotten rid of holy orders. No more holy orders. No, it's just terrible. It's awful. All by their choice, by the choice of the world, the secular society. Water it down, water it down, water it down. And they're still trying to do that in the Catholic Church, too. Water it down, water it down. Oh, you don't need to kneel. Oh no, you don't want to do that. Oh, I forgot about that with the kneeling part. Yeah, because then he said this, you know, this just this kneeling down, commanded the Lord him to take into the two stone tablets. Then the Lord came down in the cloud from there. But they talk about kneeling. Thousand generations, wickedness, punishment, the parents, third and fourth generations, falling to the ground. I'm gonna find that in just a minute. All right, let us go to our gospel. The gospel of love, gospel of John. Love, love, love, love, love. 219. We got our connection right there. 219, 219, 219 of the catechism of the Catholic Church. I gotta go back and my other page. It's all in there. It's all in that profession of faith, my brothers and sisters, which we profess at every mass, our profession of faith. Here we go. God is love. 219. God's love for Israel is compared to a father's love for his son. His love for the people is stronger than a mother's for her children. God's love his people more than a bridegroom and his beloved. The love will be victorious over even the worst infidelities. All sins can be forgiven, my brothers and sisters, and will extend to the most precious gift. God so loved the world that he gave his only son. And that is also in, of course, John 3 16, Hosanna 11, Isaiah 49, Isaiah 62, Ezekiel 16, and Hosanna 11 again. 11 and 11, well, chapter 11. Okay. The name Jesus signifies the very name of God and is present in the person of his son. Made man the universal and definitive redemption from sins. This divine name. John 3, Acts 2, 3 John, Romans 10. The only Son of God. Jesus calls himself the only Son of God. This is from Catechism. Once again, these listings are all on our podcast. You can look them up. Second most important books, Catechism of the Catholic Church. You should get one of those. And you can check these at deaconlouisemblick.com. And feel free to pass on this podcast. Okay, this is 444 of the Catechism. Jesus calls himself the Son of God and by this title affirms his eternal preexistence. He asks for the faith in the name of the only Son of God. In the Centurion's explanation before the crucified Christ, truly this man was the Son of God. That Christian confession is already heard. Only in the Paschal mystery can the believer give the title Son of God its full meaning. John three sixteen and John 1036. John three eighteen. Very beautiful. Then 406 of the catechism in regards to our gospel reading and some other ones too. God commits himself by his own solemn oath, giving his beloved son the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it. And that is Ephesians in Ephesians 1, Genesis 22, go all the way back. Luke 1, John 3, Romans 8, Galatians 3. So very beautiful, my brothers and sisters. And I also want to uh, you know, that shout out to my Jewish brothers and sisters on their feast of Shabbat, the feast of weeks, and uh the history and the meaning behind that. Originally, Shabbat was an agricultural festival, making the wheat harvest of the land over Israel. Over time, its significance involved to communicate God's giving of the Ten Commandments to the Israelites. In Jewish tradition, while Passover celebrates the physical freedom from slavery, okay, and line that line that up with the resurrection of Jesus. And Shabbat represents the spiritual fulfillment through the covenant of the Torah. And you think about that with the Ten Commandments, the giving of the law and those Ten Commandments. And of course, the third commandment, you know, my brothers and sisters, is to worship the Lord your God, right? And to go to Mass. That's why we say it's so important to go to Mass. Go to Mass every single week. Pray every single day. Even if it's just, you know, at meals. We got to do better. The world is hurting. There's no doubt about it that the world is hurting. You know, and the politicians and and such, you know, they all try to do the best they can. But uh really, my brothers and sisters, pray for people in your family. Pray for those. Um so many people are are without uh just basic uh basic necessities, you know, of food and labor. And of course, you know, gasoline. You know, everybody talks about gasoline, and we see it too. Our you know, business slowing down always does in the summertime, too. But my brothers and sisters, go to mass. Think about the Holy Spirit inside of you. Think about your life. You know, is your life an explanation point or is it a question mark? Right? That's a question mark. You're constantly questioning your job. Maybe you're constantly questioning your relationships, relationships with your family. Well, the biggest thing is what your the biggest, most important relationship of all is your relationship with God. And if your relationship, or if you have no relationship with that, people say, I have no relationship with God. It's like, how do you expect earthly relationships to be good if you haven't worked on the heavenly relationship? The creator of the universe, the God who made all of this. People say, Well, I don't know, I think some of that was uh happened by uh uh um um just the natural occurrence of things happening. Who made the acorn? Think about that. Who made the seeds? See, the seeds didn't invent themselves, the plants didn't invent themselves, the animals didn't invent themselves, we didn't invent ourselves, we were created, so stop playing the secular game of tag, you know, with God that you know you're it, huh? I'm not going to church this week because I believe this and I don't believe any of it, so I'm not going. Grow up, grow up, be open-minded, learn how to love. That's the whole point of life. You know, we want people to love us, we want people to be kind to us, we want goodness, but we don't want to work for it. We don't want to dish any of it out, we dish other stuff out, crappy stuff, but we need to dish out the good, dish out the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, to dish out love, to serve love to people, to be of service to people. This is the good life, my brothers and sisters. It is not a life of slavery. It is not a if it's anything, it maybe it's holy slavery, but it's not. It's not, my brothers and sisters, to know and love God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. This is what's important. To straighten out that question mark of all the question marks that you have in your life, all of the thoughts, all the whys, all the why me's, all the this, that, and the other thing, all the naming, all the blaming, blaming other people, places, and things. It's all garbage, it's all childish, it's all silliness to break free of the slavery that you put yourself in. That maybe you even like. Maybe you even like it a little bit. You know, you'd like to be able to just blame everybody else, blame the whole world. Why? Blame $5 gas of why I'm unhappy. Mostly the reason why we're unhappy, because I know the reason why I'm unhappy when I'm unhappy, is because I'm being lazy. It's because of me. And I thank God that He has given me the knowledge and the freedom to be able to break free of that. Be at peace, my brothers and sisters. Love, love, love. Pray, pray, pray. Go to Mass, forgive. Be one of God's holy ones. May Almighty God bless you all. Father, Son, Holy Spirit, amen. God bless you all. We love you. Have a great weekend.
