Hello, everybody. This is Deacon Louis Emleck here in the Diocese of Kalamazoo. We're glad you're with us here today on this 17th Sunday in ordinary time. We're reading from 1 Kings chapter 3, verse 5, and then it skips verse 6, and we're going to read that. It's kind of unusual, you know, some of the um what they edit out too, you know, because even in verse 5, they edited out part of in Gibeon, the Lord appeared to Solomon. And um in the regular reading, it says the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. So it's very interesting. So I really encourage you, I was preaching last weekend, to really read these gaps that the intellectuals in Rome or maybe Washington or any, you know, it's just this liberalization of things, you know, in a and always in a bad way when it's in the church. You know, sometimes, you know, you think you make things more liberal in the church, um, but it's is being a good thing, you know, that making it a little easier or making it easier to understand, or you know, getting getting somebody an annulment who really needs an annulment from their marriage. But but generally it's it's it's it's liberalizing things that we should not liberalize, like sin. And and things that need to be addressed in a in a serious manner. And instead of just, oh, well, that's no big deal. You know, if you don't want to kneel during the consecration, that's all right. You don't you don't have to, because we know that you're doctors and lawyers and you guys are all that in a bag of chips during the week, and we don't want you to feel like you're demeaning yourself. Well, there is one time of the week where we should worship God in a proper posture, and that would be kneeling. And I will say, my brothers and sisters, I did do a little bit of a, you know, checking people out, asking people, you know, hey, do you do you do you say your prayers at home and do you kneel down? And you know, there are only a couple of young people who actually raise their hands, and I'm sure there's some obstinate ones, of course. I would be that type, you know, but I'm not raising my hand for a deacon.

So this is what we have to deal with, and this is why we have these problems in the church.

It's not just because of, you know, and even somebody said that to me this week, too, you know, well, you know, the church is dominated by men, you know, so and for centuries they've been, you know, been uh depicting women and doing, you know, lording over women. I was like, what?

No, you know, that's not the case, you know, like the Sisters of St. Joseph, the stuff that happened out there, that's all on them. That's all on the girls. All the girls took care of that. You know, the girls in Cleveland mainly, and then all they needed was a couple of girls in Kalamazoo to go along with it, and they tore the whole place down. Right? So these are your really your super liberal Catholics making these super bad decisions. So don't go there with that garbage either, you know. So, but I'll tell you, my brothers and sisters, um humanity's in trouble because we won't even kneel down to pray in church or during the consecration. Get that, figure that out. Or we won't even we won't even pray in our the privacy of our own homes, get on our knees next to our bed. And I said to a guy, you know, and a couple of people, good people, good, good Catholic people, you know, families that, you know, agreed with me. Oh, you know, lots of them, right? Lots of them. Like, you know, you're right, Deacon Louie. I I need to do that. I need to humble myself. And, you know, if you want God to listen to your prayers, if you want your prayers heard, you know, even talk about it in recovery in the seventh step, you know, to humble yourself before God. Well, you know, people say, Well, I'm a humble person.

Really, just you making that statement that you're a humble person means you're not a humble person. Because a humble person would never say that. You know, you'd say, you know, I don't know if I'm humble or not.

You know, I I don't know what God thinks of me, quite frankly. I, you know, I hope he thinks I'm humble, but um, no, I never get on my knees. Well, then you're not a humble person. Because humility is teachability, humility is posture. And uh Pope Benedict XVI did a beautiful book on that, Spirit of the Liturgy. So here we go. So there's a little bit of preaching there, five minutes in, and I just can't help myself. But uh pass the program around and let's read the holy scriptures that are read at Mass throughout this week. Of course, last week was the feast day of Mary Magdala, and this week we have the feast of Mary, Mary of Bethany, Mary Magdala, Martha, and Lazarus. So they're they're they're pleasing everyone, the East and the West, in their own ideas about uh Mary Magdalene and Mary and Martha and Bethany and whether or not they're all brothers and sisters or individual people or three different Marys or whatever. But we can't seem to get on our knees and worship God, you know? And you know, please give a shout out in that regard. That'd be nice. Okay, here we go. First Kings chapter three, verse five, skipping verse six and then seven through twelve. The Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. God said, Ask something of me and I will give it to you. Solomon answered, O Lord my God, you have made me your servant king, to succeed my father David. But I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act. I serve you in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a people so vast that it cannot be numbered or counted. Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong. For who is able to govern this vast people of yours? The Lord was pleased that Solomon made this request. So God said to him, Because you have asked for this not for a long life for yourself, nor for riches, nor for the life of your enemies, but for understanding, so that you may know what is right. I do as you I do as you requested. I give you a heart so wise and understanding that there has never been anyone like you up until now. And after you there will come no one equal to you. The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Our psalm readings today is quite interesting. It's Psalm 119, uh, verses 57, 72, 76, 77, and then parts of Psalm 127, 128, 129 through 30. So it's very interesting. I haven't really torn it all apart, but it's all in there, and there's catechism teachings too. So we'll go over those. Lord, I love your commands. I have said, O Lord, that my part is to keep your words. The law of your mouth is to me more precious than thousands of gold and silver pieces. Lord, I love your commands. Let your kindness comfort me according to your promise to your servants. Let your compassion come to me that I may live, for your law is my delight. Lord, I love your commands. For I love your commands more than gold, however fine. For in all your precepts I go forward, ever false the way, ever false way I hate. For in all your precepts I go forward. Every false way I hate I hate. I have heard that a couple times. Beautiful. Lord, I love your commands. Wonderful are your decrees, therefore I observe them. The revelation of your words shed light, giving understanding to the simple. Thanks be to God. Our gospel reading today is from the Gospel of Matthew, chapter thirteen, verse 44 through 52. You may get uh shortchanged again this week, because there is a shorter uh version too, which is quite sad, but we'll we'll uh I'll show you where it it ends. I'll mention where the extended version starts. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus said to his disciples, The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, again the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Now that's where the short version ends. Now this is where it continues for the longer version. Again the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore, and sit down and put what is good into buckets, what is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous, and throw them into a fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Do you understand all these things? They answered Yes, and he replied, Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the old, excuse me, both the new and the old. The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. May the words of this gospel wipe away our sins. Well, my brothers and sisters, it is just quite apparent to me. Uh I don't know uh whether it's the Holy Spirit, but it's uh I've been working and dealing with this stuff for a long time about how the liberals want to mold the church. And you know, I know people get sick of that language, but it's really the only way that I know how to uh describe it is um, you know, this so-called easier, softer way, you know, to read less scripture, which means, you know, you don't get healed, right? And they talked about this gentleman who was, you know, healed from a lifelong addiction of a particular lifestyle. And he did it, and there's a Protestant, and he did it by reading Scripture every day, reading Scripture, reading Scripture, reading Scripture, reading Scripture, and slowly but surely, you know, kind of deprogramming his mind, excuse me, out of the way of sin. And it's quite fascinating how powerful, and we don't realize how powerful the Word of God is. Are the sacraments powerful? The Holy Eucharist, the anointing of the sick, baptism, of course, all these things. Holy orders, holy matrimony, and of course, a good holy funeral mass, too, for the faithfully departed. And so these things are always very important. But this editing of scriptures, the the editing of uh holiness, the reducing God's holiness, you know, that you know, you don't need to kneel, you don't need to read all the scriptures, you don't need to receive the Lord the Lord worthily, you don't need to go to church every week, you don't need to um, you don't need to kneel. Um, I was thinking about it this week. You don't need to receive the, oh, you don't need confirmation, that's not necessary. Oh, just you can leave when you don't need that. You can get married by the justice of the peace, everything will be fine. You can get married this, that way, that this person, that person. You can know them for two weeks and get married. It's garbage, my brothers and sisters. And we have been eating this garbage for the last 50 years. You know, I'm 67 years old now. I've been doing this deacon thing for what, 15, 16 years, um, long time. Yeah, 15 or 16 years. And it's the same stuff over and over again. You know, and it's a and it's you know, like you know, someone mentioning to me, you know, oh, you know, the men are running the church. No. You have people who, and if they have good intentions, okay, well, that's great that they have good intentions, but if they're wrong and they're leading people astray, just like God says, you know, if you're leading people astray, you're gonna, if you're a cleric, if you're a sister, if you're someone who's teaching CCD and you're teaching the kids and you're saying, well, this is what I think. No one cares what you think. It's what does the church teach? That's what you teach, and that's what bishops, that's what deacons, that's what priests, that's what religious, that's what people are supposed to teach the faithful. And when you see stuff with abuses, and that's real, this is real abuse of power. Real abuse is this liberal abuse where you don't tell people the truth. And of course, people will say, you know, it's just like you know, the socialists. People think, oh man, it's great, we're gonna be socialists, everything's gonna be free, and you know, we're gonna get this guy, you know, who's come from a socialist country. His parents immigrated to this country, we're happy to be here, and the kids become socialists because they're a bunch of rich brats, right? And they want to be in charge, they want to be in control, they want to take over, and all they're interested in, my brothers and sisters, is power. Show me one communist socialist country that is successful, where millions and millions of people haven't died under those dictatorships. It doesn't work, my brothers and sisters. It does not work. And even parts of the church, you know, we have to watch it. We gotta be careful. We gotta be careful what we say and what we do. Catholic Church and and China has absolutely been been um just pushed down next to nothing. You know, we need to you know pray for Jimmy Lai, who's still in prison in China, a businessman, a good businessman. Actually, he's a he's a and and this is another part too, is that he's actually a citizen of Great Britain. And Great Britain can't get him out of China, out of the prison in China. And I dare say that you know he's probably going to die in that prison. So please pray for Jimmy Lai, pray for his family. Um have him often on EWTN, and I know uh uh Father Sirico up at the uh Acton Institute has spoken of him and done a couple of documentaries on him as well. But uh as far as the scripture readings go, so watch the stuff that gets left out. And then I see this place gets left out in our reading from 1 Kings chapter 3. So the place in Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon. So I think it's like a historical thing. So we don't want to show a historical place. Well, that's an Israel. We don't want to say that it was an Israel, because that's where it was. It was in Israel, and then Solomon answered. Then it doesn't give Solomon's answer, but here's Solomon's answer. Why do you edit out Solomon's answer? Solomon has no voice. This is a dialogue between God Almighty and Solomon. And they edit out Solomon's piece here, this piece, this particular piece. Some of the stuff is it continues on. But listen to this. Solomon answered, You have shown great kindness to your servant, David, my father, because he walked before you with fidelity, justice, and an upright heart. And you have continued this great kindness towards him today, giving him a son to sit upon his throne. Read that over and over and over again. And your attitude towards God will change. Your attitude towards worshiping God, loving God, caring about God will change. I guarantee you that. And there's no catechism teaching on that exact piece of scripture either. So also consider in our podcast, all of the catechism teachings are listed. So let's go on to our psalm reading. Psalm reading is God is truth as from the catechism. God is truth, this sacred scripture, how important the divine scriptures are, and that they should be venerated. Life in Christ. God is truth, the formation of a conscience. This is all in our psalm readings. These are all the teachings from the Catechism Catholic Church. The Ten Commandments, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. The eighth commandment. Jesus said to his time, love one another as I have loved you. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. It was said of men of old, you shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn. Living in truth. 2465 of the Catechism. There's something to look up, right? Living in truth. And, you know, if you're if you're not going to mass, if you're not going to church, if you're not getting on your knees and praying, you I don't know how you can possibly live in truth without the help of God. Not in this culture. Not in this world, or at any time in this world. I'm not just talking about today. I'm talking about forever. You know, I'm not one of those who say it's never been so bad, or it's going to be the end of the world tomorrow. No idea. The church tells us they have no idea. Prayer as God's gift. 2559 of the catechism. Prayer is the raising of one's mind and heart to God, requesting the good things from God. But when we pray, do we speak from the height of our pride and our will or out of the depths of a humble? Humble, contrite heart. He who humbles himself will be exalted. Humility is the foundation of prayer. Only when we humbly acknowledge that we do not know how to pray as we ought are we ready to receive freely the gift of prayer. Man and woman is a beggar before God. Do you hear that? Man or woman is a beggar before God. On your knees, my brothers and sisters. On your knees. There's a difference. There's a difference to you. Well, there's no difference at all. Believe me, all the super liberals that I know, they don't get on their knees. And they don't pray very much either. And they don't go to adoration. And they don't genuflect. Okay? And they don't believe in the sacraments. They believe, you know, they believe in the the so-called modern church, which is basically the Protestant church. Train wreck. And that is, I'm sorry to say, is not going well. Or glad to say, because come to the Catholic Church, you know, get rid of all that silliness and come to the Catholic Church. The divine works of the Trinitarian Missions, 257 of the Catechism. 313, Providence and the Scandal of Evil. This is all from Romans 28. Born of the Virgin Mary. Mary is ever virgin. Oh my gosh, you can't believe it. That's coming out of Romans. Yes, it is. 501 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Jesus is Mary's only son. Hear that? Jesus is Mary's only son. But her spiritual motherhood extends to all men and women who indeed he came to save. The son whom she bore brought forth, and he whom God placed as the firstborn among many brethren, that he, the faithful in whose generation and formation she cooperates with a mother's love. How beautiful is that. Christian holiness from Romans 8.29. Filial trust and our efficacious prayers. The Our Father prayer from Romans 8.29. And then finally our gospel, my brothers and sisters. Cram home so much show stuff into this program. Come on, here we go. Proclamation of the kingdom of God, the mysteries of Jesus' public life, the proclamation of the kingdom of God. Matthew 13, which we read today, as well as Matthew 22. Believing in the Holy Spirit. And believing in this, 1034 of the catechism, that hell is real. Hell is real. That's the other thing that the liberals hate talking about is hell. Oh, hell, that doesn't happen. Oh no. Everybody goes to heaven. It's like, what? What? No teaching on that. That's not teaching people properly. You know, that's part of the reason why, while one of the many reasons, you know, besides that, you know, people say, well, faith doesn't mean or works don't mean anything. Yes, they do. Read the book of James. Read the Bible. Read the Bible. Not bits and pieces and sound bites that you want to be able to have your own little religion and have your own little kingdom or have your own little, you know, I, you know, put your own king's name on the Bible and whammo blamel, I got it my way. No, no, that's not the way it works. The sacraments of the church, 1117 of the catechism, as she has done for the canon of sacred scripture and for the doctrine of the faith, the church, by the power of the Holy Spirit, guides her into all truth, has gradually recognized the treasures received from Christ and the faithful stewardship of God's mysteries, the determining its dispensation. Thus the church has discerned over the centuries that among the liturgical celebrations there are seven that are, in the strict sense of the term, sacraments to be instituted by the Lord. Also, the uh uh the the uh theology of the body, Saint Pope John Paul II, Christ appeals to man's heart and to woman's hearts as well. In his general audience, the 16th of April, nineteen eighty, the Holy Father continued his catechesis on theology of the body by turning to Christ's teaching and the Sermon on the Mount on adultery in the heart. Wow. Sin, my brothers and sisters, sin. Yeah, righteous person falls seven times a day. And we need to repent for it, we need to go to mass, we need to pray. We need to do better, and we can do better. With the grace of God, we can do better. We can do better, we will do better, hopefully, we'll do better, right? But my brothers and sisters, there's so much that we can do just with prayer and forgiveness in our own families. And uh to really see the works of God, to really see uh the fruits of the power of God's grace, and to not discount the fact that reading Holy Scripture, opening up the Bible, read the book of Job, you know, chapter one, chapter two, the book of Job, it will really wake you up that evil exists in the world, but also the great grace of God exists in this world as well. But we have to humble ourselves. Get on your knees, pray, pray, pray, my brothers and sisters, and love one another. Love your neighbor, love your family. The Almighty God bless you all.
