Speaker 1:

Thank you how we doing everybody and welcome to Wisconsin Sports on the go with Trage. I'm your host, trage. It was an eventful weekend right. We had NCAA March Madness going on. The XFL was back over the weekend there. It was a pretty good weekend, a fantastic weekend there.

Speaker 1:

Didn't get a lot of time to watch sports though. I was moving we moved this weekend. So a lot of unpacking on Saturday, friday night loading up, saturday, unpacking everything like that. So they get a lot of time. But I got time to watch the Brewers right, you got to make time right. Made some time, watched the Brewers a little bit there. I mean fantastic weekend for the Brewers, right. Brewers series sweep over the weekend. Got to be talking about that today.

Speaker 1:

Sadly, we did watch Marquette lose to NC State. As a Badger fan I'm not overly concerned, but at the same time it's like, ah, you know, wanted to see a Wisconsin team get through, but it's okay. It's okay, wisconsin basketball is essentially done for the year. Right, did not get to see Marquette make it any further. Nc State I mean, that's a team right now that you don't want to meet. You do not want to meet NC State because Duke just saw NC State too, and NC State just rolled them right out of the building. So a fantastic weekend of sports.

Speaker 1:

But right away I want to open up with the Brewers, because opening weekend, opening day, got pushed back to Friday. Friday we saw the Brewers win that game 3-1. A fantastic opening game for the Brewers. Started out trailing that game, freddie, an early bomb given up there in that second inning. But other than that I mean the Brewers settled in one hit in total on this game. Pitching was phenomenal. That's a big thing early on here for this Brewers team. I mean outside of Game 2, right, game 2 of this series, brewers pitching did struggle a little bit there, mets. I mean you had to expect the Mets were going to find the bats a little bit and the pitching for the Brewers did struggle a little bit. I mean we're not going to jump the gun here, but all in all, fantastic series from the Brewers. I wanted to look at that Friday game that started out there.

Speaker 1:

Jackson Churro gets his first major league head. The glove was in action in that game. The speed was in action. I think it's crazy how fast Jackson Churro really is. I mean they said his home to first is faster than LA De La Cruz. That's crazy because I mean we all saw LA De La Cruz. That guy can fly around. Jackson Churro is picking up and putting them down faster than that. That's ridiculous. So Jackson Churro shows it all. I mean I thought it was crazy enough.

Speaker 1:

This guy making his major league debut and in the season opener he's batting leadoff, first crack at it in this major league season for the Brewers, he gets the leadoff spot. That's what I, you know, I mean, yeah, it's not like it's not a spot he could excel in is in the leadoff spot because the guy's got the tools to be a good leadoff hitter. I was just, like you know, rookie first day in the bigs, I was like maybe they'll try him down at the bottom. Nope, nope, right away Leadoff spot, first swings of the season for the Brewers. And he played fantastic One for three in the game, got his first MLB hit, had an RBI, had a walk, showed it all off. That was fantastic there. And then Jelich, three for four in that game, played great one RBI there, scored a run. That was great to see out of Christian Jelich. And then we saw, I mean, a couple other guys get hits for the Brewers eight hits in total. On the day there we saw Perkins and Ortiz collect hits. Bowers had a hit and so did Terang. Terang's been hitting well to start this season here. So Brewers, I mean relatively good in that game hitting the baseball.

Speaker 1:

It was, you know, you look at that game and it was a lot of the small ball right's. What I've been impressed with early on here with this brewers team is the small ball mentality that they're playing with. They aren't looking to hit the home run ball all the time. You know that's what it was so prone for years with the brewers. This seems like a team underneath the pat murphy that's going to look to run, look to lay down the bunt, the little things throughout a baseball game, and I think that's what this team is kind of geared for right now. So I love it. I love every second of it.

Speaker 1:

So, looking at the pitching in that game, like I said, freddie, he gave up that one hit, that one earned run on the game. There was that home run. Other than that, eight strikeouts and six innings Fantastic, I mean fastball. Freddie was rolling in that game. Eight strikeouts, fantastic workout of Freddie. And then McGill came in for an inning, pompous for an inning, and Uribe got the save for the Brewers there. Pomp looked good too. One inning, two strikeouts, great outing for Pompous. And then Uribe finishes it out there with his first save of his Major League career or not of his Major League career, but first save of the season there. So fantastic out of Uribe there For the Mets. I mean we saw the Brewers get to Quintana a little bit there 4-2-3, 6 hits, 2 earned runs in that one, 4 strikeouts, 2 walks and a home run given up. Christian Jelic with that home run there for the Brewers and then looking at some of the other guys here for the Mets just to gaze over here the Brewers, like I said, starling Marte, the one hit of the game, that was it. Other than that Brewers pitching did phenomenal in this game. There Got to the bullpen a little bit there. Lopez for the Mets gave up a run also to this Brewers team and that ended that three to one.

Speaker 1:

Brewers picked up the opening day win Game. Two different story. Mets were able to put some runs on the board there late. Brewers won that one seven to six. Mets used the three-run eighth and that home run by Alonzo in the ninth there to make this one close late in this one. It was a score of 7-2 going into that bottom of the eighth there, and then the Mets were able to scratch across a few runs there.

Speaker 1:

We all saw the Hoskins stuff happen over the weekend. Just got to say, you know, I loved it, loved it, I loved a little bit of an edge. He doesn't seem like a guy who was going to start the brawl, right, he might, it might end up in a brawl at some point, right, but he doesn't seem like you know, he just McNeil took exception to what was going on and I mean Hoskins just ran off the field and McNeil kept going. So he gave him the cry baby, uh reaction there and I thought that was hilarious. And I mean he wasn't. It's not like hoskins stood there, was looking for a fight, anything like that. He's like dude, I slid fine, even after they threw behind him. Hoskins like basically I knew it was coming. It's like but if you're gonna hit me, hit me. I mean you don't miss eight feet behind the guy, you don't. I mean you can say that it slipped all day long, you don't miss up there. When he, I mean, if you just miss, I get it. But that was no. No, you don't miss eight feet out of the zone there. And Hoskins, I mean I, I like that Hoskins. He knew it was coming, he took it and just moved on, moved on with it. He's like we got better things aimed for here. So that was great there.

Speaker 1:

Looking at that Saturday game though, the Brewers 16 hits in total in that game Played fantastic. We saw Frelick in there. He didn't get in there opening day but he did play in the second game of the year there. One for five in the leadoff spot. Contreras three for five. Yelich continued his hot hitting, two for five. Adamas got hitting there two for five in that game. Then we saw Hoskins three for four with four RBIs and two runs scored. Fantastic day on Hoskins there. We saw Oliver Dunn get his major, first major league hit there, and they were almost going to get rid of that baseball too. They were just going to put it in the bag. I was like are you?

Speaker 2:

serious right now.

Speaker 1:

I mean, come on, come on, we know the situation here, let's go like no, now it was in New York, nobody had an idea, but glad to see he got the baseball back. After that Terang started hitting this game here Two for five in this one. And then Churrio batted at the bottom of the lineup there Two for five in this game. Also, brewers were hitting the baseball. Well, do Hall looked, I mean, good, he looked solid in this outing right. First game as a starter in a long time. I think it was a lot of jitters, you know. Second game of the year, new club, everything like that, and I thought he, I thought he pitched fine, I mean not great, not over the top, not ace stuff, not, this guy's a potential site, young, no, not yet. You know, we're hoping that probably get that way some way. Right, he's got the stuff, he's got the, he's got the high velocity, he's got the movement on his breaking stuff. It's all fantastic, but not yet. Four innings pitch for him, six hits, two earned runs, two walks and a strikeout. One home run giving up. Other than that solid day of work out of DL Hall. We saw Paguero come in there then for two innings. Nothing across the board for Paguero. Trevor McGill pitched two days in a row, pitched fantastic. Bryce Wilson did get roughed up a little bit. In a third of an inning he gave up two runs, two hits and that was it for Bryce Wilson. Hobie Milner then came in for two-thirds of an inning, gave up a run in that little stretch there with a home run. And then Uribe came in for the save. Once again, one inning, one hit, one earned run on a home run by Pete Alonzo there there. But he did have two strikeouts in that outing. So brewers got the win.

Speaker 1:

Game two. I mean, this was a, this was a. You gotta survive this game. Got a moment. Right, you're in new york. You had to expect the bats for the mets. We're gonna pick up at some point. This was the game and the brewers were able to pull it off.

Speaker 1:

We saw luis severino start this one. Five innings, 12 hits given up, six earned runs, runs, six strikeouts and one home run. They roughed up Severino in this game. Here the Mets bullpen did okay. Adovino was the only one to give up a run in that bullpen. Otherwise the bullpen looked good. Edwin Diaz did see him first time in a long time. Right, got injured last year, finally seeing him out there and inning pitch there. One hit and one strikeout. So he looked good in his comeback there from injury last year. So Brewers picked up the game to win 7-6 and that led to the game yesterday, easter Sunday there A fantastic series sweep for the Brewers in this one.

Speaker 1:

4-1 was the final there. Colin Ray got the win for the Brewers. Trevor McGill's brother I actually forgot that that was Trevor McGill's brother there. Tyler he got the loss for the Brewers. Trevor McGill's brother I actually forgot that that was Trevor McGill's brother there. Tyler he got the loss for the Mets in that one. And then Pompous got the save for the Brewers.

Speaker 1:

Looking at this one for the Brewers, we saw Frelick in there. He struggled a little bit at the plate to start this one. Contreras two for five. Yelich 0 for two on the game there, one run and two walks, so getting it going. The bat didn't get going but he was still getting on base for you. Right, and that's what you gotta, that's what you're looking for there with christian yellow adamas two for three on this one. Adamas has been swinging the bat relatively well here to start the year so you hope that continues, because a good willie adamas equals a good brewers team. That's all I gotta say there. Oliver dunn one for three in this one. He got to start at the DH spot and then we saw Hoskins go 0 for 4. Ortiz 0 for 3 in this one.

Speaker 1:

Terang continued his hot hitting 2 for 4 at the bottom of the line up there, and Jackson Turio I mean 2 for 4 in this one. He's got that average. It's 417 right now 455 for Terang and then we're looking at 455 for Yelich after that game. Contreras 385. Adamas 333. So all solid averages across the board right now for the Brewers they are starting out. The hitting's been good, I mean all the way around for the Brewers to start this season. The hitting has been good To start here and I got to say I mean, even looking at the pitching, the pitching has been solid for the Brewers here to start this one.

Speaker 1:

Not a lot of action here. Ray got five innings, five hits, one earned run, two walks, two strikeouts in this one. And then we saw Hudson and this guy was the under I mean you don't really he's under the radar star of this game here. Three innings, two hits, four strikeouts for Hudson and three I mean three innings of work there out of the bullpen and this guy comes in and gives you, I mean pretty great, uh pitching stuff there. So hudson looked fantastic and then pompous came in for an inning for the save there with a strikeout. So great game all the way around for the brewers as they pick up the series win against the mets.

Speaker 1:

They will have an off day now before they come back home to, uh, american family field I almost said miller park, I'm just so used to saying Miller Park To American Family Field, where they will see the rival, not rival. I wonder how you'd say the twins the border rival. Let's go with that, I mean. But you could say the Cubs are the border rival, right? The guys from Minnesota, the twins, are coming to American Family Field. We will see Jacob Junis in that game for the Brewers and then Joe Ross actually got the final spot there in the five-man rotation as of right now. So good stuff there out of the Brewers. I'm going to get into the Brewers a little bit more before we move on here. I want to get into the Brewers just a little bit more here, but before we move on I want to mention a couple of our sponsors.

Speaker 1:

But with that I want to jump back into the brewerswers here. I just want to talk a little bit more about brewers. Right opening weekend you got your first impressions of this team and you got to talk about the whole thing right. So I love, I, like I talked earlier, I love what reese hoskins brings to the brewers. Right, we wanted the big bopper, we wanted a solid bat at first base, but I think he brings that a little bit more right, the energy to the Brewers, the little bit of an edge. You know the Brewers have been almost the nice guys. Right, you got to have.

Speaker 1:

Every good team seems to have that one guy who knows how to get underneath of other teams' skin right Gets to the pitchers, gets to some of the players on the opposite team there where stuff starts to go wrong for them, where they start throwing pitches at you. Right, we haven't seen that in a while in the Brewers right, they were the nice guys. I think that Hoskins brings that little bit of an edge to this team to say, hey, we might have some nice guys, but we have an edge to us too and you don't want to screw with that. And that's I love what Hoskins brings to this team the power of bat, the stability at first base, but also the clubhouse guy who's? I mean, he seems like an all-around great guy, great teammate. And you see him down there in the dugout and he's talking, he's joking around and everything like that. But I just you know, watching him out there on the field it's like he's going to bring that little bit of hard nose. We're going to get after you kind of baseball and that's what you love to see.

Speaker 1:

So, first impression, I love what I'm seeing out of Reese Hoskins right away here. I love the small ball approaches, laying down the bunt. I mean Bryce Terang. We saw that bunt for a hit that he had. That was fantastic. Move the runner up. If you get on in the process, that's great. I love that. I love that ability that they are going to use some of these guys to lay down the bunt in advance. Guys, something that I thought that craig council lacked, the I? I don't even know why he didn't. You know, at times it was like okay, terrain's coming up, been struggling, why don't you have laid on bunt? We?

Speaker 1:

let him swing away and then all of a sudden he got two outs, or he grounds it to a double play, et cetera, et cetera.

Speaker 1:

Right, and it's like well, why did you never? You never tried. Let's lay down a punt. I never understood that with Craig Council, I think. Now, watching Pat Murphy, I think Murphy's going to lean on that a little bit. I love that.

Speaker 1:

I love the ability to lay down the bunt, because the Brewers like I was talking earlier with Jackson Churro, you get Mitchell back. You have a ton of speed. Right, you have Churro, you have Frelick, you have Mitchell, you have Terang, you have I mean, you look at it, jelic has still got some speed underneath that little thing. Right, he's got some speed there. So you look at those guys. And then you have the big boppers behind him too. So you can move guys into scoring position. Right, terang can move a guy. That brings a guy up to the top of the lineup then. And then you have your big boppers. You have Frelick up there. Maybe he's the guy to lay down the buns. Then you have Contreras. After that I like Yelich in the three hole. I'll be honest with you. Everybody's like well, you know, he's a leadoff guy. He's a leadoff guy. If Yelich can bat for me in the three hole fantastic that. Then I can use guys like Frelick and I can use guys like Churro, because those guys have got the wheels and when they get on they're a stolen base threat. I love those guys at the top of the order. I like Contreras in the two.

Speaker 1:

I honestly, right now, the only thing that I would maybe change and I don't know if I would because he's hitting right now Willie Adamas. I like the Hoskins in the four spot. He was batting six for a while there. It works if Adamas keeps hitting. Otherwise, the only thing I would say is flip-flop those two. That's all. That's all I would say. That's all I would change right now with the Brewers lineup. If you ask me now I don't know if it's you have to do something like that because it's been working right. They're 3-0 right now, got the series win over the Mets, so I can't really complain too much. The lineup's not working, but that would be. The only thing I would say is that the indifference for me right now is to flip those two. Otherwise, I love the lineups that they're rolling out right now.

Speaker 1:

The only thing that you could do with Yelich, I would say, is move him up to the two spot, move Contreras down to the three. But even then I mean I'm fine with the way that it is, I like the way that it is, I like Contreras in the two hole. But I, you know, contreras is just, he's not the guy who's going to always hit you the bomb, right, he's the guy who's going to be. I'm going to plug the gap. I'm going to send a missile up the middle or into the right, center, left center field gap at a hundred miles per hour and get move on to a spot. That'd be the only way. That would be. The place that I would move Yelich is to the two spot right now. Because I just believe with the rest of the speed that the Brewers have, I would I'd keep Yelich where he is or move him up. One, that's it. I would not touch the leadoff spot.

Speaker 1:

I believe right now, the way that it's going, if it continues to go like this, hopefully Frelick starts to hit right Over the weekend here he had a hit over the weekend but nothing crazy so far. But Churro's been hit right. So maybe he becomes the guy to be the leadoff guy for the Brewers and if he can get on base for you, steal a couple bags. As long as he's smart, right, you can have all the speed in the world, but you got to be smart. And if he, if he, can be a smart base runner at the top of the order and get on for you, I love it. I love having that speed on there, because then you have the big boppers coming behind him and this team could be very dangerous then. So I love the small ball approaches for the Brewers right now.

Speaker 1:

Looking at, I mean I love what I'm seeing out of Pat Murphy. It looks like the clubhouse is energetic, it looks like they're connected. It looks like this team never skipped a beat. You know, because everybody worried when Craig Council left oh, what's going to happen to the clubhouse, what's going to happen to this, what's going to happen to that? I haven't seen anything change. I think, if anything, it's almost gotten better. Right, this team seems to be flowing.

Speaker 1:

They're at pitch. Uh, they're swinging at strikes right, jumping on them. They're not waiting. That was the biggest thing I hated about the brewers was they waited. They would take a strike. They would take too many. You know, they'd get themselves into an 0-2. We saw with rowdy all the time. Right, it was like rowdy telez stepped to the plate with an 0-2 count because he'd watch pitches and I'm okay with watching pitches, I'm not saying you can't go up there and watch pitches, I. I love, though, that the Brewers are jumping on strikes when they're available. They don't wait for that next pitch. If it's there, if they think that they can knock it through a hole, they're jumping on it. I love that right now with this Brewers team, because that is fantastic.

Speaker 1:

If you ask me Something that the Brewers have lacked over the years jumping on early strikes and accounts, because when you start facing some of the better guys in the league, you're not going to get a better pitch after the first one. Right, they're going to. I mean, when I used to pitch college and everything like that I started guys with, usually it was a fastball, right. I mean, that's just how it goes. You usually start them up with something to start the bat or start the at bat, unless if you had a scouting report on the guy that said this guy can't hit a curveball, this guy can't hit sliders, this guy sucks with the change up. If you had that kind of scouting report. Maybe you change it up, but relatively, I mean. You look, probably seven times out of ten you're gonna get a fastball within the first two pitches, unless if he doesn't throw a fastball. But in today's mlb it's about who can throw the hardest right, so you're gonna get a to get a fastball. It's just a matter of if it's there, you got to be looking to hit it and I think the Brewers have done a fantastic job with that early on here.

Speaker 1:

And, like I said earlier, sending guys. I think Pat Murphy's been aggressive and I love that. You look at some of these guys over the weekend here. Stolen bases, I mean these guys are jumping. Terang has been fantastic getting off and running on, uh, on the pitch. I was just looking at stolen bases right now. Terang's got four already. Yellich has two, churro's got one and so does Frelick, I mean. But Bryce Terang, four stolen bases already in this young season. That's great. That's fantastic for a guy who's batting near the bottom of the lineup and last year was struggling to get on. Now we're seeing him left and right getting on and he's swiping bases like it's nothing. So it's been fantastic watching him. The only thing and we haven't seen it yet.

Speaker 1:

But the only thing that I'm going to say is going to worry me is possibly the second half of this rotation. Right, we got to see what we're going to get out of junis and we got to see what we're going to get out of joe ross. Right, both guys. I mean junis, we've seen sparks of him over the years. Joe Ross, he's a project coming into Milwaukee. So how does looking at a guy like Joe Ross, how does he develop here in Milwaukee? That's something that I can't wait to see what the Brewers pitching coaches have done with Joe Ross to try to develop him and get him into a little more of a successful role here in Milwaukee, versus what he was with the Nationals there.

Speaker 1:

And Junis, I mean we've seen him in the past. We know a little bit more about Junis. How does he do in that four spot? I mean you're looking at this saying we got Wade Miley still in the back pocket at some point here and then you're going to have rookies. Now I don't know about Robert Gasser. I don't know what the heck's going on with Robert Gasser, because last I heard he was on the injury report and he was out for the foreseeable future with an elbow injury, so I don't know what's going on with Robert Gasser. We also saw backup catcher Jefferson Cuero also go down with an injury too. He was going to have x-rays on it. So that sucks to see there for two promising prospects there for the Brewers. But we could see some of these young guys getting up to the big leagues at some point here for the Brewers. So that is always an option too, but that would be the only part that I still have worries about.

Speaker 1:

Otherwise, I love what I'm seeing right now with this Brewers team. Defensively, I like it. I mean defensively, this team is. We saw Ortiz make some fantastic plays at third base. We saw Oliver Dunn making some fantastic plays. We saw Adamas doing what he does Terang, I mean, he played fantastic at second base there. And then you got the outfield Yelich and Frelick and Churro. I mean those guys got some wheels on them all the way around. I mean right now, defense for the Brewers is very good, and I mean, besides that other, I mean on the outside of that, like I was talking about speed for the Brewers, the speed that they have I talked about before stolen bases are going to be up for this team. That's been great to see.

Speaker 1:

I think I have a change in my. We didn't over the under the other day and, prediction wise for the Brewers, this team could be up in the 80s for wins this year, high 80s. I really do think the way that it. I mean, I know it's small sample size, I know it's just the Mets right, but the way that this team is playing the game is something that I wanted to see. How is Pat Murphy going to manage? Was it going to be the same philosophy as Greg Gonzo? Was it going to be the same philosophy as Greg Gunsel? Was he going to go with something else? This is different. It just seems different.

Speaker 1:

If you ask me. They're going to the small ball. They're not relying on. We got to hit bombs, we got to hit it over guys. They're not relying on that. This team is squeaking hits, they're laying bunts down, they're stealing bags when they're there and defensively they're playing great in the pitching staff. I mean relatively from what we've seen so far, one through three. Colin ray pitched I mean good in this last game of the series there. Deal hall pitched fine and freddie peralta pitched fantastic game one. And then you look at the last two in the rotation. I mean, if they give you anything solid outings, I am comfortable where we're at right now because you look at this lineup for the brewers and just about everybody's hitting. So looking forward here, I mean this is a team that if they stay healthy and they get healthier, with Garrett Mitchell and Wade Miley coming back and Wade Miley gives you what he has in the past year, this is a team that I mean I believe will be at the top of the NL Central for a majority of this season. So fantastic stuff there out of the Brewers all the way around. I just can't wait to watch me a little bit more baseball, because right now they have me excited.

Speaker 1:

Series sweep to start the year of the New York Mets. Is there anything better than that? Is there anything? Because then we saw Mets fans already crying. I mean we saw Mets fans already freaking out because they think the season's over already. There's nothing better. There's nothing better than putting it to the New York Mets. It's almost like putting it to the New York Yankees or maybe the Dodgers right, putting it to the Dodgers right now. But I mean the Cardinals are trying to do that, but not successfully.

Speaker 1:

But looking over, I just want to get to a couple more of our sponsors here before we move on here. First, your hometown team, century 21 Gold Key Realty. Call Peggy, sue or Anna to find your dream home. Or if you're looking to sell, find them on Facebook at your hometown team, century 21 Gold Key Realty, or stop in and see them at their location in Marshfield. Also, sports Scene, sports Cards and Memorabilia located in the Marshfield Mall. If you go behind McDonald's there in Marshfield off the Main Drag, you'll see the Marshfield Mall there. They got a Hobby Lobby down there. Now Don't go. I'm not a big fan of Hobby Lobby, but if you go down from Hobby Lobby you'll get towards the Kohl's down there. You go to the door to the left, right inside there you'll see Sports Scene in there. You got to get down there. They have everything you need Sports cards, memorabilia, jerseys, model stock cars. They got it all down there at sports scene in Marshfield, in the Marshfield Mall.

Speaker 1:

Also, Sport and Spine Clinic in Greenwood. If you've been hurt recently, whether at work, whether it was playing, I mean on the basketball court, on the football field, whatever you're doing this time of year, I don't know. I don't know. There's a lot of stuff going on right. We got indoor football league kicking off right now. We got all kinds of stuff going on. So if you've been hurt recently and you need some physical therapy, stop in there at Sport and Spine Clinic in Greenwood, see Chad, he'll get you right. He'll get you back to work back on the court, back on the field. Actor. Sport and Spine Clinic in Greenwood, wisconsin.

Speaker 1:

With that, though, we got to get over to a little bit of MLB. We got to talk about the weekend. The weekend that was the opening weekend of Major League Baseball there, and we saw the Angels got a win on Sunday there over the Orioles. We saw the Phillies. They are at 1-2 right now. They won the final game of the series there against the Braves. We also saw the Pirates. Pirates, I mean four-game sweep of the Marlins to start the year 4-0, to start this young season here for the Pittsburgh Pirates. They always start out hot, right, the Pirates always start out hot, and it just seems like they hit that the cliff. So I mean, right now, pirates are rolling. Can't say anything other than that Pirates are rolling right now.

Speaker 1:

You look at some other teams here. We saw the Blue Jays and the Rays. They both went two and two. Blue Jays got the win there on Sunday but sitting at two and two on this young season. The Reds win the series against the Nationals. They sit at a two and one record. Right now we have the Tigers moving to three and, oh, they swept the White Sox. I do think the White Sox and the A's will compete for the worst record in baseball because White Sox are terrible too. I'm going to be honest with you.

Speaker 1:

Looking at some of the other series there we saw the royals get an 11 to nothing win over the twins on sunday. But outside of that two and one on the season for the twins, they won that series there against the royals. Yankees get the four game sweep over the astros and the yankee fans believe they just won the world series because they beat the astros. So they win that game on Sunday 4-3. They get the series sweep. Hader actually took the loss for the Astros in that one. I believe Juan Soto actually got the best of Hader again there. So not good to see there for Josh Hader. He cannot handle Juan Soto.

Speaker 1:

Looking at elsewhere there Cubs got the win in the final game of the series against the Rangers but the Rangers take the series. Win there 2-1. The Athletics won a game 4-3. Over the Guardians. Guardians moved to 3-1. They got the win in that four-game series. Red Sox they take a 2-2 on the year right now. 5-1 over the Mariners there on Sunday. Diamondbacks 3-1 on the year. They get the win over the Rockies.

Speaker 1:

Outside of that we saw the Padres. They got the win over the Giants. They moved to 3-3 on the year. The Giants moved to 2-2 on this young season. And then we saw the Cardinals. They got one win over that weekend. There they are 1-3 on this season right now.

Speaker 1:

Outside of that, dodgers 4-2 on this season here. So lots of good baseball happening over the weekend there. Forgot to mention the Orioles did move to 2-1. They lost that game on Sunday the Angels, but they sit at 2-1 in the year. So lots of good baseball all the way around here over the weekend.

Speaker 1:

But we won't see the Brewers back in action until Tuesday when they get that quick little two-game series there against the Twins and then they will move on, I believe, to take on the Mariners on Friday then. So they get two off days this week, monday and Thursday. Before that weekend series there with the Mariners. Good thing Garrett Mitchell isn't out there for that. I mean, he got hurt last time they played the Mariners. I wonder that game must be at home though this time. At home this time. Last time it was at Seattle, then he got injured there. So good stuff there for the Brewers and in all of MLB over the weekend there.

Speaker 1:

It's a great weekend when the Cubs lose right. Great weekend when the Cubs lose the series, and they lost the opening series. And it was fantastic to see how many cub fans were already comparing craig council to david ross. That was fantastic. The cub fans, the ones who were like, oh my gosh, we got craig council, the world is saved, we're gonna win this, we're gonna win that. Now it's like I don't like this guy anymore. It's like this is fantastic, great stuff, great stuff. Cub fans already freaking out, just like the met fans are after the Brewers got to sweep there over the weekend.

Speaker 1:

But we gotta talk a little bit of NBA. I just wanted to jump into the Bucs here a little bit. We saw the Bucs get a win over the weekend there against the Hawks. Good stuff there 122 to 113. It's hard I mean honestly it's hard for the Bucs to win on the road. I'm gonna be honest with you and they gotta win on the road. I know it's hard for the Bucs to win on the road. I'm going to be honest with you and they got to win on the road. I know it's the Atlanta Hawks who are sitting at 34 and 40 now, but the Bucs will take whatever they can get on the road because they struggle mightily on the road.

Speaker 1:

Giannis was the leader in that game 36 points for Giannis Middleton at 21. 13 points out of Brooke Lopez. Beverly got to start Giannis Middleton at 21. 13 points out of Brooke Lopez. Beverly got to start. No, damian Lillard out for personal reasons in this game here. 18 points for Bev and then Beasley added 10. 13 for Bobby off the bench. There. We saw a couple other guys getting the action there Crowder and Connington. Crowder had five, connington with four. Aj Green added two for the Milwaukee Bucks in that game. 16 rebounds for Giannis in that game. We just got to see this team.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if anybody else is nervous about the Bucks, but the only thing that really makes me nervous is we can't get the best out of any of these guys when they're all together right. We don't get the best out of Chris. When it's Chris and Giannis and Dame. We don't get the best out of Dame when Giannis is playing. We don't get the best out of Chris when it's Chris and Giannis and Dame. We don't get the best out of Dame when Giannis is playing. We don't get the best out of Giannis when Dame is playing. But when one of those guys is out I wouldn't even say Middleton when Dame is out, we get the best out of Giannis. And so far, coming back here, we've seen one of the best games out of Chris Middleton. He had struggled as of late.

Speaker 1:

This game nine for 10 from the floor, three for three from downtown there. That's fantastic game. On Chris, it's like Chris is still trying to find his role. When Damian Lillard's out there and I don't at times I don't think Dame is he's not sharing the basketball enough. I mean, you watch, when you watch that game, I believe it was the loss that they just had Yannis on that pick and roll is open all day long, but yet Dame's the one who's taking the shot. It doesn't make sense. So it just worries me that team chemistry somehow some way is still not good with this team, and for how long it's been. It worries me. It worries me, heading down the stretch here, that this Bucs team is just falling apart and there's nothing good that's happening right now. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I watched this team and it's like at times it just seems like team chemistry is still a problem. I don't know if it's just me with that one, but that's what it seems like.

Speaker 1:

So Bucs, they get the win over the weekend. That was fantastic to see and I believe I was just going to check out when they're in action next year. They'll play Tuesday. That'll be against the Wizards. I mean, you got to get a win there. Right, you're going to Washington, but this is a 14-61 team. You got to get the win over the Wizards. That'll be on Tuesday there 6 o'clock. We'll get more into into that game tomorrow here, but tonight here we're going to see the Badgers women's basketball team. They're going to be an action here.

Speaker 1:

They continue the NIT tournament quarterfinals there against St Louis and looking at this one, st Louis is paced by Kennedy or Peyton Kennedy there. She had 31 points for them in the win over Purdue Fort Wayne there. So fantastic game out of Peyton Kennedy. Looking at this game as a whole, here Sierra Williams is going to be the big one for the Badgers. She's averaging 17.7 points per game and 11 rebounds right now and the Badgers are also. I mean you look at on the season here they're getting 10 points and five rebounds, two steals and four assists from Ronnie Porter and eight points from Brooke Schmeck. So they got to have good games all the way around from those girls right there to be able to advance here in the WNIT. So that game will be a 7 o'clock tip coming up tonight here. It's going to be from the Kohl Center. Badgers get another home game there. I believe that will also be on ESPN+. The Badgers are favored in that game, so that's great to see there. The Lady Badgers are favored in that game, so that's great to see there, the Lady Badgers. I mean a lot of people don't really respect the NIT but I mean, looking at this Badger team, they've struggled over the years. Hopefully this is a start of something good there in Madison for the women's basketball team, because that would be great there all the way around staying with basketball, staying with the badgers.

Speaker 1:

I just wanted to mention former badger nigel hayes actually set the record in. I believe it was euro league basketball there he had a 50 point game in just under 30 minutes. He had 18 of 27 shots from the field, nine for 16 from downtown and then also was five for seven from the free throw line. In that game Set the record for him over there. I believe the record before that was 49, and he beat it by one there, got 50 points there for his team in that big win that they had. So Nigel A is making a name for himself over there in the Euro League. Great stuff there out of Nigel. Loved him in Wisconsin. I loved him with the Badgers Struggled a little bit down the stretch I thought. But then I mean making himself a name over there in the EuroLeague playing a fantastic game and setting a record over there. I can't believe nobody's ever got 50 over there. I thought that was kind of crazy. But 50 points for Nigel Hayes. So fantastic game out of Nigel there.

Speaker 1:

But I wanted to look at the March Madness games that happened over the weekend there we saw Marquette lose that game to NC State. Nc State's on a roll right now it's hard to stop them. I mean you look at some of the guys on this team. Burns in that game did struggle. Dj Burns only had four points for NC State. But you look at the rest of them there. Dj Horn, he had 19. Morsell had 15. You look across the board there Diarra had 11 for him. So great game all the way around.

Speaker 1:

Marquette just struggled shooting the basketball. Tyler Kolek was 17, cam Jones with 20, but you look across there they had four from Joplin, six from Ingedaro, eight from Mitchell. In that one Ross added two. Four for 31 from downtown was Marquette Four for 31. That's a rough outing for a team that loves the three ball. You look at that game and then you look at 20 for 60 from the floor in that game. I mean you're not going to win many basketball games shooting the basketball like that. They had 35 rebounds. They had 15 fouls in that game compared to 16 for NC State. Nc State nine for 23 from downtown shot 46% from the field. That was the difference. Marquette just could not get their stride shooting the basketball in that game. So Marquette falls. That takes out the last of the Wisconsin teams in this NCAA tournament.

Speaker 1:

Looking at the rest of it there, I mean we saw on Thursday. We saw Arizona lose to Clemson. We saw UConn get the win over San Diego State. We saw Alabama beat North Carolina. We saw Illinois over Iowa State Friday, purdue over Gonzaga, duke over Houston and Tennessee over Creighton. The Saturday games. I really thought Illinois would stand a little bit more of a chance against UConn. That was a rout. After half, that was a rout. 77-52 was the final score. 50 minutes of real time that was a rout. 77-52 was the final score, 50 minutes of real time. Illinois did not score. That was crazy. I mean, for a shot not to fall in 50 minutes of real time, that's nuts. So Illinois takes the loss to UConn. Alabama got the win over Clemson.

Speaker 1:

Looking at the games on Sunday, then we saw Purdue over Tennessee 72-66. And I did not want to see Purdue. I had Tennessee picked in my bracket. I was hoping for a Tennessee win there and knock Zach Geady out of the tournament. Did not get to see that. We saw Purdue move on NC State with a big win over Duke 76-64. So that is your final four.

Speaker 1:

Then I want to see DJ Burns and NC State just take it to Purdue. I got to be honest with you. That's my dream, but I know it probably won't happen. But NC State will get the matchup with Purdue in the first game coming up next Saturday there at 5.09. And then we will see UConn and Alabama. I think that's going to be a fantastic game If there's one team left that I really truthfully believe can beat UConn.

Speaker 1:

I mean I would want to say Purdue, but I just think Alabama can hit shots and they can score it with anybody. So I don't know if you can truthfully stop UConn, but I think you can out-shoot them in the end. If you can go shot for shot with them, I think you can make it a game and I think Alabama can do that. This team is flying right now. I mean Alabama can shoot the basketball like no other. I think that could be a fantastic. I think that might be the game of the tournament.

Speaker 1:

Uconn and Alabama there in the final four. So we got the final four set. Can't wait for some good basketball there coming up next weekend. See who will advance to the national championship game. I'm hoping for a NC State. I got UConn winning it in my bracket, but I would not be opposed to an NC State. Alabama national championship Knockout. Purdue knockout UConn. Give me something random in that national championship game. Give me something random and I think it'll be fantastic. But with that, that's about all I got for today. Lots going on today, a lot of Brewer talk. Right, it was fantastic. Brewers will be back in action tomorrow. There Can't wait to get back into the Brewers here because, man, they got me excited for some baseball here coming up this year. But with that this has been Wisconsin Sports on the go with Trach. Thank you guys for listening. We'll catch you guys back here tomorrow, but until then, deuces.

Speaker 2:

Deuces. Yeah, oh, my Lord, watch me sway. Darkness falls and we all pray, hoping for the light of day. Down to the river, I have held the devil's hand, felt the weight of my own sin, buried by the heart of man Down to the river. Outro Music.
