Ever found yourself throwing your hands up in frustration over a game where it just wasn't clicking for your team? Well, buckle up, because we're unpacking the Milwaukee Brewers' recent face-off with the San Diego Padres, where gusty winds weren't the only things causing a stir. Joey Ortiz's defensive woes at third base have us sounding the alarm, and we're dissecting Wade Miley's injury-interrupted performance with the precision of a major league scout. But it wasn't all grim – we tip our caps to Dylan Cease's formidable pitching, even as we grit our teeth over those pesky strike zone calls that had everyone guessing.

Let's talk about seizing the moment, or in the Brewers' case, the moments that slipped right through their fingers. The spotlight's on those nail-biting instances with runners in scoring position that ended with a collective sigh from the stands. While we're at it, we'll break down how new additions like Contreras and Gary Sanchez are meshing with the crew – or not. And because we're all about celebrating achievements too, we're giving a nod to Frelick's impressive strides and mulling over Adamas' unpredictable swings. It's a no-holds-barred assessment of where the team stands and what they need to tweak for the wins they're chasing.

Wrapping up, we're throwing the ball into your court, dear listeners. Your thoughts, your questions, your unabashed passion for Wisconsin sports – they're the fuel that keeps this discussion revved up and ready to go. So send those emails and drop those reviews; let's keep the sports banter lively and the community spirit thriving. Whether we're spotlighting Christian Yelich's return from the injured list or discussing Joey Weimer's potential with a bat, this is your go-to spot for genuine sports talk that doesn't pull any punches. Speaker 1:

Thank you how we doing, everybody, and welcome to Wisconsin Sports on the go with Trage. I'm your host, trage. It is Wednesday, a fantastic Wednesday here in the great state of Wisconsin and well, depending on where you're at, you might've got a little bit of rain, a little bit of wind. Yesterday I mean central Wisconsin, here it was crazy windy yesterday and I mean not a lot going on yesterday in the world of sports, but I mean weather-wise there was a heck of a lot happening. So I mean there was some excitement in that side of sports, but I mean weather-wise there was a heck of a lot happening. So I mean there was some excitement in that side of it. I guess you could say there. But going off of that, I mean we had the Brewers in action yesterday. Talk about that a little bit today. See where the day takes us, as of late life's been a little crazy.

Speaker 1:

I've been doing a little bit more here and there, work and everything like that, so haven't had a lot of time to get on here, be able to talk. Like you guys know, I'm not this full-time podcaster like a lot of the other people out there. I do this as a little side. It's my side thing. Right, it's my side thing, but I do it at night and right now, like I've told you guys before, it's about 9.40 right now at night. I got to be up tomorrow morning about 530 to head off to work there. So I mean, it's it's the love of it, right, it's the love of it, and that's what you got to go for there.

Speaker 1:

So we saw the Brewers in action last night there they were beaten six to three. Six to three was the final score in that one against the Padres and well, you know, three in a row. Now the Brewers have dropped, lost that last game to the Orioles, now two straight here to the Padres and well, I mean, it's similar to that game from yesterday there against the Padres or two days ago from the Padres there on Monday. This game last night, six to three, the final there. Padres stacked it up early.

Speaker 1:

First inning, four runs, that was the difference in this ball game. Four in the first. There Got to wait a little bit, did not help and I'm going to say it once again, did not help the defense for the Brewers. And I'm going to say this first and foremost, right now Joey Ortiz worries me at third base. He worries me at third base why I don't know why he can't. I mean, it's the inconsistent play, the inconsistent throwing arm. I had Deja Vu last night there watching that throw.

Speaker 1:

The only thing I could think back to was when Javier Baez chucked that one from short and he cleared his first baseman's head by a good five. Now his was more. His was more than what Joey Ortiz's was. I'll give Joey Ortiz the benefit of the doubt there, but I mean just. And then there was the little swunt, bunt, whatever you want to call it there and it rolled down the line and Ortiz just let it go. It died on the grass, the line and Ortiz just let it go. It died on the grass.

Speaker 1:

I mean just the little things in that first inning, that kind of just spelled trouble for Wade Miley, for the Brewers and just add insult to injury, wade Miley gets, I mean, lined back up the middle there by Machado. Twice in this game I saw somebody commenting out on Facebook and they were talking about that line drives back and it's like somebody said something about. It's almost like it's on purpose. It's almost like it's on purpose by Machado. I'm like, not on purpose, but you know I don't like Machado, haven't liked him, especially since 2018 when he was with the Dodgers in that whole Brewers Dodgers series. I grew to dislike him and now two times in this game not once he hit Wade Miley, but the second time hits Paguero with a comebacker there and it's like son of a gun, like if it ain't intentional, I'm done with it. I'm done with it, but I mean so Wade Miley gets a little short of an out.

Speaker 1:

He has a short outing here against the Padres in this one. Looking at Wade's outing three innings, four hits, three earned runs, four runs in total, two walks, two strikeouts and a home run given up there. Kim took them deep there. A three run bomb in that first inning. I mean, outside of that, wade pitched fine, but you saw he was in some pain there after he went to field that bunch. It always seems like a bunch for Wade that we notice injuries and stuff like that. He had the groin injury. Now he has this leg injury there. That's all I can assume. Right, I can assume that it was that was acting up on him once again there.

Speaker 1:

But you look at the flip side in that pitching matchup in this one and Dylan Cease pitched fantastic for the Padres Six innings two hits, one earned run, five walks, seven straight goes. The walks were an issue. The walks were an issue for Cease, but I mean he had everything working in this game. He had everything working. The fastball was dominant. He was touching up there 96 plus in this game. And you look at him there. He had those seven strikeouts. Three of them were on the slider, three on the foreseam fastball and one was actually on his knuckle curve there.

Speaker 1:

Now I mean in this game you want to look at pitching, it doesn't help that Angel Hernandez was behind the plate. It does not help at all, because the strike zone gets a little wider. Sometimes it narrows up. So that did not help the Brewers whatsoever, because you look late in this one Brewers were kind of putting together a rally and a couple of bad calls here and there. That did not help them out whatsoever and I mean it went both ways. I'm not going to say the Padres, there weren't any bad calls against the Padres, because it's Angel Hernandez. I mean there's going to be bad calls all the way around.

Speaker 1:

At one point I thought it was hilarious listening to Jeff Levering and Bill Schroeder on the radio there. They were on the TV there and they were talking. They're like what's he looking at up on the roof? And because he was looking up and they couldn't figure out, and Jeff Levering goes, the strike zone is not up there. So I was just like, yeah, I mean that that's a classic, a classic thing to say when you're watching a guy like Angel Hernandez out there, because the strike zone definitely was bad, definitely was to say when you're watching a guy like Angel Hernandez out there, because the strike zone definitely was bad, definitely was bad in this one, and I mean definitely didn't. You can't completely blame that to be the Brewers downfall in this game because, like I said, the three errors definitely did not help them out.

Speaker 1:

And then you look at some of the I mean they had opportunities, right. You look at contraris had an opportunity, ended up with a great diving play by profar and a couple of hard hit balls that just did not find real estate in the outfield there. I mean they had chance after chance and just could not. They couldn't find it, they couldn't find it and that killed them in this one. Left on base in this one. I was just looking at that for the Brewers. I just want to see how many guys they left on base in this game Nine runners left on base. They were one for eight with runners in scoring position. So you take that in perspective. That's going to kill you. That's going to definitely kill you in moments like this. Looking at runners left in scoring position with two outs Hoskins and Adamas both left two guys on there and Contreras and Gary Sanchez both left two guys on. So you look at those two situations right there Definitely does not help. Late in this one Contreras double play ball. That definitely killed that late. I mean it was going to be late, it was a late game rally by the brewers but that definitely did not help them out there. And I mean you look at total bases in this game here for the brewers. I let's just cover the box, let's cover the box for the brewers in this one well and just see what we saw coming out of this one. So you look at the box for the brewers here.

Speaker 1:

Three for four from frelick at the top of the order. A fantastic day out of Sal. He actually played third base in this one Left field and third base Contreras caught in this one. He was one for five. Two RBIs there, extended that hitting streak. That was good to see. I mean he's got that going. Yet Is that Contreras hitting streak Adamas 0 for 3 in this one, two walks, one strikeout and one run scored. Not a bad day out of Willie. Not a great day, but not a bad day. Got on base twice for you, scored a run, but I mean not the best overall performance by Willie so far this year.

Speaker 1:

Looking down the lineup there Bowers won for 3. We had Hoskins 0 for 3. Blake Perkins went 0 for 4. Terang was 0-1 in this one and 0-2 from Owen Miller. Churro went 0-4 and Ortiz he had drew a walk and that was it. On the ball game there he was pinch hit four by Dunn there and then Weimer came in late. He was 1-1. On the game there it was Joey Weimer. So you look at the Brewers there they had six hits in total, three RBIs, seven walks and 11 strikeouts in this game.

Speaker 1:

Here you look up and down this lineup and the one I'm going to say this just because I haven't said it yet when the Brewers broke their opening day roster, I was not and this is, truth be told, not the biggest fan of Gary Sanchez being the backup. I was not, and this is, truth be told, not the biggest fan of Gary Sanchez being the backup. I was not a fan. I saw Eric Hayes in spring and I said to myself this guy is tearing the cover off the baseball. He is playing fine defensively.

Speaker 1:

This is a guy I would like to see up at the bigs, in the bigs. Whether you carry three catchers, whether you don't, this is a guy I want to see up at the bigs, in the bigs. Whether you carry three catchers, whether you don't, this is a guy I want to see up there right now. Gary sanchez is the backup and I mean we look at sanchez so far on this season 24 at bats, one home run, two rbis on this young season so far, and that is spread, I believe. If you look in total, he's only got three hits in total on the year there, three for 24,. He has that home run, six total bases there, two RBIs in total, one walk, four strikeouts, 125 average. Now, not a lot of at-bats.

Speaker 1:

I'm not going to say this guy's had a crazy amount of at-bats and he's had a ton of time to figure it out. I'm not going to say that. I'm not going to say that, but what I'm going to say is that when I watch Gary Sanchez right now, this is the one guy that you can bring up. I mean I have more faith in Joey Weimer. I'll be honest with you when I watch this Brewers team.

Speaker 1:

When Gary Sanchez came to the plate there, I believe the bases were loaded for Sanchez. If not loaded, I believe they were loaded. I believe they walked Adamas, adamas got walked behind Sal and Weimer and that brought up Gary Sanchez with those bases loaded. Now I got to say when I saw him coming up, it's the only time this year that I have looked at this Brewers team and said I don't think we're going to score a run. Just truth be told, I mean this game. It felt. You know, we've went through years with the Brewers where you watch these games and you kind of get that feeling that it's over before it's over. Right and a 6-1 game. Years past I would have thought it was over. The Brewers didn't have the bats, they didn't have the ability to come back in games like that, they didn't have the ability to put guys on base and punch them. In this year, the Brewers have done phenomenal in all those categories. All those categories They've done great, and now I see Bowers get pinch hit for we bring in Sanchez.

Speaker 1:

My initial reaction was why I get why? I guess I get why. I mean you're looking at a guy in Bowers, he's a lefty. You wanted to make the match up there, righty, lefty, so you'll bring in Sanchez. Okay, I get that aspect of it and I understand that concept. But what kills me is that Gary Sanchez has not proven anything to us yet. He hasn't proven a darn thing. And bringing in Sanchez actually took our last bench player away, which was our backup catcher. So if, if push came to shove here, I mean he ended up playing first base there. So that did help, that, that did work out a okay. But I mean, in that situation I just thought to myself why and I have not been a huge fan of Gary Sanchez over the years.

Speaker 1:

I was not a huge fan of the signing of Gary Sanchez by the Brewers and I understood why he made the major league roster simply because of money and zero options. They had to basically had to give him the spot Right. But at the same time I was like why? Why is Gary Sanchez? Why do we believe this guy? Does he bring pop to the bench? Sure, yeah, but that's what we brought Josh Donaldson in for last year too. Now was Josh Donaldson terrible. It depends who you ask. Right, I was not a fan of that Josh Donaldson deal. I wasn't. Yeah, did he bring Pop to the lineup? Sure, sure, sure. He did Not a lot, didn't do a lot for us so far.

Speaker 1:

Sanchez has popped me off one home run there and he's batting 125. Hasn't? Sanchez has popped me off one home run there and he's batting 125. It hasn't shown me anything. So you know, to me it's just coming down to the concept of why did Sanchez get brought in such a situation? That's plain and simple. The only thing that has me wondering right now. I haven't liked it. I don't like the Sanchez idea. I think it's gonna be a, a failed experiment, and I, I mean you can't just move off him right now. Right, you all got three million dollars invested into him, and for the brewers that's a lot. But man, oh man, I sanchez to me is another dud. He's a dud, he's going to be a dud, and that's just how it's going to be. Maybe, maybe, just maybe, he proves me wrong, right, maybe he does, and I will eat my words on it. I will, but up until this point? He hasn't. He gave me a home run and two hits outside of that, outside of those three hits, he's batting a buck 25. Like, good, great, fantastic. You want one of those Round of applause.

Speaker 1:

I get anybody out there who wants to tell me they believe in Gary Sanchez and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I get it. You can believe in him, but for me, where I'm sitting, where I'm watching, I have no faith in the guy. I don't. I have no faith in him that he's going to be an instrumental part to this lineup. I don't. I really don't. He's not an everyday guy. He's not even a guy that I expect to get a hit when he comes in a pinch hitter role, I would take Joey Weimer.

Speaker 1:

I would take Joey Weimer over Gary Sanchez. I would, because, guess what? Joey Weimer swings as hard as anybody and he's going to run into one too. If Joey Weimer sits on the bench for me and he gives me seven home runs, 10 home runs, that's about the pace that Gary Sanchez will be at here. What's the difference? I don't know. The difference is position right. Catcher. He's a backup catcher. I don't care, I got catchers galore right. If Jefferson Cuero didn't get hurt. We'd have Jefferson Cuero down there, but we have Eric Case, we have Mejia. That was recently signed by the Brewers there. He's down in AAA right now.

Speaker 1:

They have pieces. They have guys. Right, they have guys. It's just a matter of are they willing to move off of a guy? And it's early in the year, so you don't want to jump the gun and just start throwing everybody out, right? But if this continues, the pace that Gary Sanchez is at, let's get rid of him before it gets a little too far, right, before we get halfway through the year. And we've used him a bunch and he's lost this game. Right, he hasn't produced for us. We need production, especially in a guy off the bench who's supposed to be a big bopper. We need production.

Speaker 1:

When you put a guy in a pinch hitter role with the bases loaded, you expect some kind of production. That's what you're expecting. You need it. It has to be, it has to be, it has to be. And I mean I'm not expecting that out of Joey Weimer, right? I'm not. You don't put Joey Weimer in a situation like that, but you put in guys like Contreras or Hoskins or whoever it is on your lineup, yelich, whoever it is sitting out that day that you bring them into a pinch-hitter role. You're expecting something out of that pinch hit role. Right, putting the ball in play, strikeout that's a killer.

Speaker 1:

And we've seen too much of downward trend with Gary Sanchez to say, right now, this guy is an instrumental piece to this Brewer team moving forward. So that's where I'm at with Gary Sanchez right now. That's where I'm at with Gary Sanchez. Your opinion might differ than mine, but where I'm at right now, where I'm sitting, he is not an instrumental piece to this lineup moving forward. He's my Daniel Vogelbach, he's my Darren Ruff. He's that piece to me right now. He's not an instrumental piece who's going to help carry this team over the top there.

Speaker 1:

So with that, before we move on here, we're going to keep talking about the brewers a little bit today, but before we move on, I want to mention a couple of the sponsors of the show here. Speaker 1:

And the first thing I want to say is you know, I'm watching Joey Weimer out there. I'm watching Joey Weimer and we cut down on the lumberjack crap, right, I mean that looks better, but there's still something funky about that swing. There's still something funky when I watch it. I don't know what it is, but there's still something funky when I'm watching Joey Weimer swing. Now, this is what sucks the most when you watch guys, and this might be just my opinion on it and you know there's a lot of hard-nosed people out there who aren't going to care about this aspect. But what sucks the most?

Speaker 1:

When you watch Joey Weimer and I had the same feeling with Kestanira it's such a nice guy that you just hope that they do something right. You just get that feeling where you know, like Manny Machado, I wouldn't care if Manny Machado sucked, got sent down to AAA and just stayed in AAA for the rest of his career. I would not care. Fernando Tatis never liked him. I'd be okay if he went down. Cody Bellinger same for me. I don't like Cody Bellinger would be okay.

Speaker 1:

But you know, you watch some of these guys in the bigs, right, some of the likable faces, and it's like Willie Adamas, right, you want to hate the guy, but he's a nice guy. You can't hate the nice guy as much, right, and you might think that for it, because, like I said, you might be a hard-nosed guy who says I don't care, I don't care about personality, I just want to watch guys go out there and swing a bat. I get that. I get both sides of it, right. I hate that.

Speaker 1:

He sucks at times, right, and he's struggled. But what makes it worse is that he's such an enjoyable guy to watch play the game. Not as much when he swings a baseball bat right, but he's such an enjoyable guy to watch Like he. Just the presence, the fun, the attitude that he brings to the game. It's great. And you just hope that at some point some hitting coach is going to come along and say I can fix that. He takes one look at him and says I can fix this, I can fix what's going wrong, I can get you right, I can get you swinging to right field, whatever it is, whatever's going to trip his trigger into making him a solid, consistent bats. That is what I is. The one thing that I want right now when I watch this guy.

Speaker 1:

I mean we saw it in this one, one for one in this game here. Now his first game back up. I did not help. He was facing corbin burns, right. I mean that's a, that's a tall task right there. I mean you look at, like we talked about in the Orioles series you had a guy like Jackson Holiday, number one prospect in all baseball. This guy's tearing the cover off the ball in AAA.

Speaker 1:

He comes up to the bigs and I believe he faced, trying to think of the guy from Boston right now, cutter. Ah, shoot, what the heck's his name there? Cutter? Yeah, he's got his name. Is Cutter? Trying to remember it? I'm going to find it here real quick Cutter Crawford. Cutter Crawford is his name and he's, I mean, just dealing on this season. He's got a .42 ERA, 21 innings, 24 strikeouts. Cutter Crawford has been pitching fantastic. So first game out he faces cutter. And then he comes to this brewer series and he gets the likes of freddie peralta in game one and freddie's dealing. And then he has dl hall in game two. He did not play in that game. And then in game three he finally got his hit against the brewers there in that

Speaker 1:

series. But it took a little while at the big league level and you look at a guy like Joey Weaver, first game back up out of the minors, who does he get to see? His old teammate Corbin Burns, who on that day was pitching pretty darn well and did not help out Joey Weaver's case in any shape or form right there. So definitely didn't help there. But I mean you just you take it with a grain of salt. A lot of people did not like the move for Joey Weaver Did not like him coming back up to the bigs, and I get it. I get it. But Yelich was on the shelf. Now he's on the shelf. I mean, we received news yesterday we're going to get into it in a second here but he's on the 10-day IL. We don't know what's going to come after

Speaker 1:

that. So we have Joey Weamer right now and it's something that you expected, right the first guy coming up by the minors. He was going to be that guy. You needed an outfielder. He's your outfielder. Now, while he's up here, you just want to see the growth of him,

Speaker 1:

right? I'm not expecting Joey Weamer to walk out there and, in his first game back from the minors, to give me a four for four performance. I'm not. Would it be great? Yeah, fantastic. But this guy isn't Jackson Holiday. He's not Jackson Churro, right? He's Joey

Speaker 1:

Weaver. Was he a top prospect in the Brewer system at one point? Heck, yeah, he was. He was a very good farm guy, but now he came out to the bigs, he's got things to work on. So was I expecting him to be phenomenal when he came up? No, not even in the slightest. What I was hoping for was for him to come out and show us something. Show us something in the short little stint he had before he went back down. Because right now, I mean you look at the outfield, when Yelich comes back, you'll have Yelich and Perkins, because Perkins has been swinging a hot bat, and then you're going to have Churro and you're going to keep Sal up. So you have those four guys already. Joey Weamer will go back

Speaker 1:

down. Now the question relies in what does Joey Weamer show you in the stints when he comes back up? That's what's going to show. I mean, if you're looking at a trade, that's going to show his trade value, right, because you can only grade so much at the AAA level. Then you have to dig into mechanics. How does he look mechanically down in AAA? Because, like we've talked about, before you get to AAA you get to the minors. I mean, hitting is a little bit

Speaker 1:

easier. I'm not going to say hitting a baseball is ever easy, but when you look at the AAA pitching, the AA pitching, whatever it is, they don't have the top guys down there anymore. Those guys move through the minors so fast. You don't see some of these dominant top guys. Look at Paul Skeens with the Pirates right now. You don't see them guys down in single A. You don't see them in double A. They work through the system so fast they're up to the bigs as fast as they can possibly get them there and that's what you see down in the minors. So that's why you can't get a good read off of guys until you see them at the bigs. You can get away with some stuff mechanically in AAA that you can't in the

Speaker 1:

bigs. Some of the messed up stuff that we saw with Joey Weimer's swing. I mean you watch this guy through. It's not like he came up to the bigs and said I'm going to swing this bat like I'm Paul Bunyan and I'm looking for my ox Like he's. He's not. It did not change when he came up. I mean it was like that. But how did he hit 300 then down at AAA? How? Because pitching is just a little bit different down there right and the atmosphere is a little bit different. Now he gets up to the bigs. Now we have to see that change. Now we have to see how he's going to adjust to that big league pitching. And it's the same with Jackson Churro, the same with him coming up to the

Speaker 1:

bigs. But now it's a matter of okay, joey Weimer came up to the bigs last year. He played not well at the plate, played well defensively, did not hit the ball. Well, now he goes and he changes it up. Right, he changes the swing a little bit, a little bit calmer throughout the hands, a little bit calmer in the lower body. So now you have that aspect. But now you get. You played a little bit there in spring. Right, you had spring ball, but you only get so much of a read out of spring ball. So now you get into the minor league season. There you get sent down, you start the year at AAA, you start to work through that. Now you get to call back up to the bigs. So now you have to see how that's going to translate up to the

Speaker 1:

bigs. And now I mean, this is going to be a process with Joey Weimer. Right, you're fixing a guy. You're fixing a guy basically in season. You're trying to fix Joey Weimer. So how does he take what he gets from right now at the big league level? Because he's going to learn things right now about his swing mechanically, how everything's working against big league pitching, how does he go back down to AAA and continue to progress

Speaker 1:

forward? I think that's going to be the biggest thing we want to see out of Joey Weimer In this short stint. We're hoping it's short. I mean, not for Joey Weimer's sake, right, we want to see him up there when we can hitting the baseball and playing well, but with Christian Yelich we hope we get Yelich back, which will most likely lead to Joey Weimer being sent down. So now, how does he work through that? Right, you're going to be kind of in that revolving door between AAA and the bigs. So how do you progress your swing throughout the year while facing some of the top pitching and then going down and facing a little bit lesser of pitching, but still keeping the mechanics right, still keeping everything going and fluid? That's going to be something I want to see out of Joey Weimer here in this season and see how he progresses overall there. But looking at I just mentioned it before there and this is kind of where I want to wrap up for the day here Looking at Christian Jelic and as of right now, it looks like Christian Jelic he got sent to the 10-day

Speaker 1:

IL. Now that is good in hindsight because it's a short IL stint, right. But the problem is going to rely in I did hear, and I saw that they said that the medication or I heard the medication was not working as expected. Right, it wasn't. His back wasn't feeling extramentally better, right, it was still kind of the same as it was feeling day before. So that was Sunday to Monday. There His back was kind of feeling just the same. So now, how does he progress forward from

Speaker 1:

that? Now we now know the back is still an issue. We've seen it over the years. We've seen it flare up, it goes away. We've seen it flare up again, it goes away. It over the years. We've seen it flare up, it goes away. We've seen it flare up again, it goes away. So what can we expect out of Christian Jelic coming back now? Is it the outfield? And it's going to be one of those things where we kind of is it swinging the bat? Like, does I mean we? We look at Christian Jelic over the years here, when the back problems have really sparked up, it seems to be his plate at the plate. He starts to struggle and my worry is is okay

Speaker 1:

now? We went into this first part of the year and everything was looking fantastic. The guy was pulling the ball again, he was using all, uh, every spot on the field and he was getting hits left and right there. The long ball was back five home runs already. The guy was hitting phenomenal, but coming back off of this if the back isn't completely right? I mean, everybody knows that your body is only going to let you do so much right and your body never wants to put you in a position where you are going to be vulnerable to injury. It doesn't want to let you get that far. So it's going to stop you. It's going to do those little things. Your head's going to stop you. Your head's going to say don't do that. So what is that thing that has done

Speaker 1:

it? To Christian Yelich, because I've seen a lot of people saying well, maybe we should DH him more, maybe we should let him play first base. Is it the outfield that's causing the problem? Maybe we should let him play first base. Is it the outfield that's causing the problem, or is it the swing? Is it the torque on the back when he's swinging, like what is making? It's the same thing like we talked about with Devin Williams and his back. You know what caused the stress fractures in the back. Was it his pitching motion? Was it a freak lifting accident? What was it? What was it for Williams? It's the same for Christian

Speaker 1:

Yelich. That's the biggest thing that they need to determine with him is what's causing it. What is causing the back flare-ups? Because it seems to be kind of sporadic, right as far as we know. We don't think he's poking a needle every day and making his back feel good. We don't think he's taking constant painkillers, not that we've heard. So what is what's the one thing or what are the things that make his back go? They get that flare? What's causing that? That's something that they need to figure out with Christian Yelich when he comes back over time here. They really need to dive deep into that part of it. Is what's causing? I mean, I would imagine, I, I would hope that at some point somebody said we should figure out the cause of this, but I haven't heard anything. What's causing it out of it? I wouldn't believe it's the outfield, because otherwise, if, if they were digging deep into this and it came down to it was the outfield that was causing it, you would think they would have pulled him out of there already. You would have thought but something's doing it. So what is

Speaker 1:

it? That's going to be the number one thing that I think they need to dive deep in is to figure out what's causing this problem with Christian Yelich and how does he come back from the back injury. I mean I want to see that. Does he come back hitting the baseball like he is now or do we get kind of a slump area? I mean you're going to have a little bit of a struggle. I don't want to say it, but you might have a little bit of a struggle jumping back into it and getting everything going again, because you will have some time off there where you probably aren't swinging a baseball bat, you're not doing the little things. So you might have a little bit of a struggle there. But on the outside of that, how does he come back from this injury and does it flare up again? That's going to be some of the things to watch there with christian

Speaker 1:

yellich. But with that I mean we got the brewers coming up today here. We are uncertain of the starter for the brewers as of right now. I did not see a starter announced by the brewers, so that'll be in question yet, but King will get the start for the Padres in this one. Brewers have a little bit of experience against King there. Adamas, in five at-bats he's got an RBI of 400 average there, and Terang, in two at-bats he has a 500 average against him there. Same with Frelick Two at-bats, 500 average. Contreras and Owen Miller do have experience, but nothing to show for it against King there for the Padres. So not certain on the Brewers starter as of right now, but that'll be a wait and see. That'll be a wait and see there A 12-10 start for that

Speaker 1:

one. A little afternoon baseball for you there for the Brewers. You can watch it on Valley Sports Wisconsin or, if you're at work or whatever it is, you can listen to it on WTMJ 620 or the Brewers Radio Network there.
