I told the people it was up in the air if you were gonna be here tonight. You were like, no way I can miss the badgers. Finally won. I gotta be here. So you're here tonight. How are we doing on this Wednesday?
SPEAKER_01:We're good. We're good. Badgers won a game, and everything's momentum's shifting. Like I think Fickle's already turned everything around. You know, I think he's he's the guy.
SPEAKER_03:I just well, let's don't get crazy on me. Don't get crazy on me. I felt it felt great. Oh, I I said right off the bat. I said it felt great for once watching that game, seeing a meaningful jump around. But honestly, I know a lot of people dislike Luke Fickle, and you can dislike Luke Fickle because you have a reason to dislike Luke Fickle. I was so happy for that guy. I was, I was seeing him on the sideline when they got that when Mason Posa got that final stop, and you just saw the coaching staff hug each other. You saw the excitement from it. I mean, it was awesome. It was absolutely awesome. But before we get there, because I don't, I just mentioned the guy, and I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves here. We got to do our Cossem Spice Bold player of the week. And I just had to go with Mason Posa. He had the huge hit late in the game on Desmond Hill there, who was taken off for that first down marker. A fantastic play. This guy, wow. I mean, it's it's unreal that we may have not seen him this year if it would have worked out the way that it was, because it was Tacka Curtis, it was Christian Allegro. We wouldn't have seen as much of Mason Posa. He's fantastic. I mean, he left the game at one point injured, and he came back and made that play. I mean, he came back. This guy went out injured, and I was like, oh no, Mason Posa's out. Here we go. Like, this is the injury bug coming back. We're screwed. And then comes back in, makes the game-saving play. Just awesome. There it was. Christian, who do you got for your Casa M Spice Bowl player of the week?
SPEAKER_01:I think I'm gonna go with this partner in crime with uh Cooper Candelaro. 19 tackles? These guys total tackles, right? That was the I think they said that was the most ever by a freshman linebacker passing TJ Edwards when you have like 16 or something. Goodness.
SPEAKER_03:Isn't that Justin?
SPEAKER_01:The crazy duo.
SPEAKER_03:These guys are fantastic. If they stay in Madison, which is what they say that they're going to do, if they stay in Madison, wow. I mean, they the Badgers have their defense step there. I mean, you can go with a lot of guys here. Mason Rieger is everything advertised. He's been fantastic up front. Sebastian Cheeks has been fantastic for him there. It was great to see uh Ricardo Hallman finally get an interception. That was awesome. I bet that felt so good. Oh my goodness, for a guy like that. It was like that game where so many like that's awesome. Like Ricardo Hallman with that interception, the win in total. The badgers actually score. I mean, jump around meaning something. All those little things that we've missed out on for how many straight games now? It just like you just felt it. And we both said it. You know, you you had said it too, and I had said it. I said it to my wife right before the game started. I'm like, I just have that feeling the badgers are gonna win tonight. And if nobody well believes me, if you see me, you see my wife, you ask her because she'll tell you, she'll tell you that I was telling the truth.
SPEAKER_01:But I know when I was telling you too, yeah, I thought the same thing. I'm oh, yeah, he probably thinks I'm just full of it, you know. No, it's like you have that feeling. It's just a weird feeling you get, you know, where it's like everything just kind of feels right here. And of course, like we all knew we were gonna see Carter Smith come in, you know, and it just feels like things are just you know gonna work this time around. Like they, you know, Macintosh gave Fickle, you know, the again out of the other vote accounts, he's coming back, you know. And the you know, you could you know all the players love fickle. So I mean, say whatever you want on the outside, like in that locker room, like they support him 100%, at least from what I can tell and what I've heard. Um like his fellow, everything was just kind of like going in that direction. And I don't know. As soon as, and again, as soon as like I know they were like kind of they were banged up a little bit too, but like they kept that offense in check. Like, I'm not gonna get a chance. They got a chance. Something stupid and fluky is gonna happen. And I I think I was even talking to someone like after that punt, like you know, they we got the fake punt, we still ended up hunting, but like kind of pinned them deep, and I go, something stupid's gonna happen. You're gonna get a turnover and mess around or something and tie this thing up, and that's exactly what happened. So it's just that's when uh Posta had his strip sack, right? So it's just crazy.
SPEAKER_03:Just huge, and in the awareness of Mason Post a strip sack and then find the ball and go and get it too. Just all of those little things that he was able to do. That was, I mean, just like you said, just awesome. See everything set up right in that game. The weather, and you and I know a lot of people are gonna say, well, it was raining and Washington wasn't able to do what they wanted, or snowing, basically, and that Washington wasn't able to do what they wanted. Yeah, you you're right, you're right. But that's football. That's the reason the stadium knows.
SPEAKER_01:Isn't that what weather's like in Washington half the time?
SPEAKER_03:That's what I thought. I'm like, they should be used to this. I mean, it's maybe not as cold, like well, it's probably just as cold. It's probably just as well.
SPEAKER_01:Same thing with Oregon, same thing with the Oregon game a couple weeks before that. Like it was rainy and stuff there, and like we I don't know, defense played well against Oregon, you know, kept you know, the normally high-powered duck offense kind of in check. We just didn't have any offense whatsoever because we had Hunter Simmons still under quarter under under Slender.
SPEAKER_03:100%, 100%. And we're gonna we're gonna get to that. We're gonna get to that. I I thought, you know, you brought up a good one there with Hunter Simmons, and I want to talk about that kind of controversy that we see rolling into uh into this week against Indiana. But the big one coming off of there, I guess the what a lot of social media was talking about was this field storming. And some people had a problem with it. They're kind of poking fun at the badgers, they're like, oh, you're three and six, you beat the number 23 team of the country, and you're storming the field. I had no problem with it. I'm gonna I'm gonna look, I want to like talk about this from an outside perspective. Try to, I guess, say. Like, I if let's just say Minnesota is in the same boat as Wisconsin, they lost how many games in a row? Your head coach, they feel like he's gonna get fired. You have barely anybody showing up to the games anymore. It's just a craptastic thing. And you win a game against a ranked team who you are supposed to have no business beating. I'm I'm okay with you storming the field. Because what this program, what these fans, the fans that actually showed up, what they've been through, what we've all been through, watching this team, talking about this team, yelling about this team, posting about this team, whatever, you deserved it. You deserved every second of storming that field and just feeling good for one second, just feeling like maybe, just maybe there's a glimmer of hope. This program is heading in the direction that maybe we want to see it go. I mean, did you have a problem at all with the the field? I mean, I don't see how you could have, but did you have a problem with it?
SPEAKER_01:No, not at all. No, nothing. Like you said, it's been a very frustrating, it's been a very frustrating three years. Um like especially the last couple years. Like you get you see fickle and like who the types of recruits he's bringing in. Like, I don't know. It's just it didn't make sense, like they should be better. Yeah, and I think the big part of it too is there were the expectations, but then how many times does a quarterback go down with an injury, you know? Um and that's just I don't know. Indiana's head coach at his press conference uh one of these days this week was asked about fickle, and he talked about how great of a coach the somebody was, and like he's you know, he's really good and blah blah blah, but like he's only had a starting quarterback for 30% of the time he's been there. Like, what can you do with that, you know? Right. So I think that says a lot about him too, like um that the guy like Signety, who's kind of arrogant, you know, or whatever. Like, but again, what's he supposed to say, anyways? But he's he's right though. Like, nothing has gone right. So when they finally get over the hump and like it's well documented that fickle's oh and ten all time against uh ranked opponents with Wisconsin, like he finally gets that hunky off his back. Wisconsin fans have something they can finally celebrate. Why not rush the field? Who cares?
SPEAKER_03:I'm 100% with you. I don't I don't really see how there's a problem with it at all. And if you guys let me know what you guys think on that, yeah, let me know what you guys think. 715-990-4914. That is 715-990-4914. Let us know what you think about the badger football. Let us know what you think about that game, what you thought about that game, and let us know what you think about the field storming of a team that's you know, not like you beat the number one team in the country or anything crazy like that, but you won a game and it felt good, and you just wanted to get down there. There's nothing against it, there's no law telling you no, so you might as well. I mean, I paid for admission, I might as well get down on the field if I can. That's that's just where I'd be at. I'd be like, oh, I paid to get in here. I might as well get down on the field. It's something I can do. I mean, might as well. So, I mean, anyways, let's look at this Badger game. So, this is the one I guess going into Indiana week that I'm I shouldn't say I'm worried about, but I am. I don't want to see Hunter Simmons. I don't. Unless if you're worried that you're gonna break Carter Smith because you think that maybe Indiana's defense is that good that they're just gonna hurt his morale. Okay, maybe. But other than that, I'm going into this game. I thought they put the training wheels on Carter Smith a little bit because I know he can throw the football. I mean, they I think they asked what's his dad's name, Dan there across social media. I saw he posted and he's like, I mean, we've seen he posted videos or whatever of his boy throwing. We know Carter can throw the football. We just got to take the training wheels off, let the guy throw it. Get Vinny Anthony involved, get Trek involved, get these guys involved. You have playmakers and you know Carter Smith, and this is the fun part. This is the fun part about Carter Smith. He's got size, so you know he can run. He's a very good runner, but he can also we know he can sling the football, which is going to give him a little bit of an element that the badgers haven't seen at the quarterback position in a while. Hunter Simmons can't do those two things. Danny O'Neill can't do those two things. Both of them can do one or the other, but not as well as what Carter Smith can do and what we think Carter Smith can do. So in this game, I'm saying let it ride with Carter Smith, see what happens, let him sling it. Don't hold back. The thing with the the beauty of it is, I don't believe, and nobody believes, that the Badgers are gonna win this game. Nobody. So just throw Carter Smith out there and let him let's just see what he can do. Let Jeff Grimes see what he can do with Carter Smith within his offense. That's what you need to see now. This isn't a season where you're like, oh, we're going dancing. I maybe if all the stars aligned just right, you could win out the schedule and go into a bowl game. But that's probably not where it's trending. So you're you're already at a lost season. You might as well see what Grimes can do with this guy. Let it ride, see what happens. What do you think, Christian? I mean, I'm going in this game saying I don't want to see Milos and I don't want to see Hunter Simmons. I just want to see Carter Smith run the offense. He's finally got a week working with the number ones. It's not like he's coming off the practice squad just jumping in now. He's had a week with the number ones. Just let it ride with the guy, see what he can do, because that's what we brought him here for was to be the number one quarterback at some point. The season's lost, he might as well do it now.
SPEAKER_01:Oh, absolutely. I don't have any concern about whether or not we're gonna see Hunter Simmons. Unless Carter Smith gets hurt. I think it's that's gonna be Carter Smith all the way.
SPEAKER_03:I hope so.
SPEAKER_01:The only the only reason Hunter Smith Simmons even made an appearance, you know, at the end of the first half is because I mean, he probably in that moment was a better passer than Carter Smith Yombe, especially because I think with Carter Smith their playbook was pretty limited. Um, they were only planning on probably, you know, because I what I heard was it was gonna be Danny O'Neill's game, and then they were gonna have some packages for Carter Smith. And I'm guessing all almost all those packages probably revolved around like you know, the run option with him, you know, being as mobile a quarterback as he is. So I don't know. I felt like every single time they called a passing play for him, he was moving. He like he was out of the pocket, he wasn't sitting in the pocket doing anything. So I agree, he's got a week now, and I mean they also asked Grimes too about his offense and stuff, and like how much of it he's actually been able to get to this year with all the revolving doors to the quarterback and stuff, and he pretty much said none. Like it's as vanilla as vanilla gets, which makes a lot of sense, you know, seeing what we've been seeing all season with almost no offense out there. So I think I think we're gonna definitely see Carter Smith all of you know, most if not all the entire game. So and like you said, what like what literally what do you have to lose? If they can beat Indiana at Indiana, then I fully will be on board of we can run the table, we can get to a bowl game. Because if we can beat Indiana at Indiana with like what they're the highest scoring offense in the cut in college football, if they can beat them at Indiana, they can beat Illinois at home, they can beat Minnesota at Minnesota. I'm not worried about that, so we'll see. But I don't know.
SPEAKER_03:We need the stars to align. That's what we need. We need the stars to align. And never do some magic for us there. And you know, it's exactly what you said. You have nothing to lose. It's what we're saying. You have nothing to lose, run with it, see what you can do with the rest of the schedule here. And I thought Luke Fickle started to do that. We've talked about in weeks past where like he's playing some conservative football at times, he's not really going for it, and then you see a fake punt and you see some of this other crazy stuff that he's rolling with now, and it's like, okay, nope, never mind. Now he's fully embracing the why not, let's do it. Get rid of the team vest. He said he still wore it or anything.
SPEAKER_01:He didn't he didn't even wear, he didn't even wear the vest.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, he said it was under the sweatshirt. I'll just keep it off. Maybe if it's under the sweatshirt, leave it under the sweatshirt. Maybe he's got a rock. Maybe he's gotta just go cut off sweatshirt, Bill Belichick style. Maybe that's what he's got to do. I don't know. He's gotta find a style. He's gotta find a style to get on there.
SPEAKER_01:The vest is not it.
SPEAKER_03:No, it is not, it hasn't been it. We got to turn over a new leaf. And when he wasn't wearing that, I was like, okay, here we go. Here we go. We're turning the program right now. This is this is what's happening. We're we are winning, we're going to the Super Bowl. I don't even care. We're going to the Super Bowl.
SPEAKER_01:That was part of the that was part of the things, you know. Like, I feel like we're going to win this game. And that was one of the reasons because Fickle was not wearing his vest. His team.
SPEAKER_03:You just felt great. You just felt great there. So we got the Badgers coming up this weekend. They're going to be taking on number two Indiana on the road at Indiana at 11 o'clock there. When we come back from the commercial break, we're going to talk a little badger hoops. We're going to talk some women's hoops, and then we're going to get over into some buckstock later with Kyle. We'll be right back here. Welcome back into Wisconsin Sports on the Go with Trage. I'm your host, Trage, as we come back here, talk a little badger hoops. So we just talked a little badger football. We're going to talk a little badger hoops here. Just a quick little hitter here before we start talking bucks here with Kyle after the commercial break. Christian sticking around here. And if you guys have missed any portion of the show here, make sure you're listening back across all podcast platforms. Next day, tomorrow, search us up. Wisconsin Sports on the Go Trade. Follow, like, subscribe across all social media. You help us out to help us grow there. So Christian Badger Women's Basketball, off to a pretty good start here. Two and one start here. They're going to be taking on bowling green. That's coming up tonight here, as we're talking, basically. They're playing right now against bowling green. But a decent start here should be three and oh. The Marquette game kind of lost that one late. But I'm liking what I'm seeing out of this team. It looks like it's a little more organized. We're seeing a better play. We're seeing some good things out of this team. What have you liked, I guess, so far out of this? Just, I mean, just a quick hitter, just some of maybe some of the things you've liked out of the program so far.
SPEAKER_01:I just actually I've caught one game, I think, but uh I think I like kind of the youth, honestly. Uh, there's a few like really good young players. Like they had one girl, like had like six blocks in a game right away. So I mean that's as a freshman, not and then she's depth, so not bad. But um, I just kind of like the makeup of the team. I feel like Robin, I think it's pinched in. Is that her name? Sounds right. She's doing a pretty good job. She actually did a pretty good job of like rebuilding this team after the mess that Marissa Mosley left behind.
SPEAKER_03:Agreed 100%. And I mean, bringing in some good recruit uh bringing some good transfers in. Like you were talking some recruits, but then bringing in uh like Destiny Howell there, the senior there from Queens. She's been fantastic to start this young season uh for this badger team. So just a lot of good pieces coming in, and then Porter's been great for them so far there. Good pieces, and that's what we want to see out of this team is just the growth. So we just want to talk about it. Just the growth of this team, and just keep an eye on it. I mean, it's some exciting stuff to see another program at UW kind of stepping up and showing out there. The wrestling team, they had a great weekend there at Iowa State. There's a lot of guys who finished high up in the rankings there, finished high. Some actually finished on the podium. So some great stuff there across many programs in Wisconsin. Number two, uh, Michigan. They fell to number 10, Wisconsin there in men's hockey. So that was awesome to see. So just some great stuff across the board. The men's team basketball right now, they got. I mean, there's there's only so much we can talk about with the men's team right now. They're playing great, they're playing great to start this young season so far. There's some good, there's some bad. Not uh, I mean, more good than bad, right? It's hard to it's hard to gauge it all right now because you are playing lesser opponents at this very moment. These are just the tune-up games. And from what we've seen so far right now, I mean, you can look across the board with this team. They're 3-0 right now. Nick Boyd has been as advertised. They're both him and John Blackwell are averaging 23 points per game. Then you look at a guy like Noan Winter, 14 and a half. You look at Austin Rapp, 10 and a half. You have some very good scoring there. That's a good big three, big four right there, if you want to call it it. So, I mean, right now, Christian, when you when you talk about this men's basketball team, what are some of the things, some of the players that are sticking out to you at this very moment?
SPEAKER_01:I think what I like the most about the team is like any any given player could lead the team in scoring. So, like the first night it was uh Blackwell dropping what 31, and then Boyd went off the next night, and now last night, Nolan Winter was the guy, you know, like had another double-double and had a huge game. So that's it, and so that's I think I really like that about this team is you can't really just shut them down just by stopping one guy, right? They're gonna find a way to, you know, someone's gonna score. If it's not Blackwell, it's probably gonna be Boyd. If it's not one of those guys, it's probably gonna be, I would say, Winter, or I think I'm I'm waiting for the Austin Rap breakout game. I'm waiting for it.
SPEAKER_03:I think he's waiting in the wings at this point because everybody else is doing their part. He doesn't have to do so much right now, but we know when that guy gets going, he can shoot it with the best of them. Same with a guy like Nolan Winter. So though this is gonna be a fun team. This is gonna be a really fun team. They're going to be taking on it. It is Southern Indiana. We said right, it's southern Indiana. I think it's southern Indiana, southern Indiana, um university, Edwardsville Cougars. It's some college that they're gonna be taking on on the 17th. So what? That's coming up here this next weekend that they're gonna have that game, the 17th, and then after that, they got their big test. They're gonna head to Salt Lake City, they're gonna be taking on BYU, number seven, BYU, and then they play Providence. So you have one more tune-up game, and then I mean you're taking you're taking out BYU, you got Providence, then you start Big Ten play. You got Northwestern, you got Marquette, you got Nebraska, you have some very good games to start out the Big Ten slate, and then you see Bill uh Villanova sandwiched in there, random game against Central Michigan and Milwaukee, and then you have Purdue and UCLA. So the tune-up games you have.
SPEAKER_01:You have one and then Michigan right behind them.
SPEAKER_03:Yep, yep. This schedule is gonna get scary real fast here. So, Christian, I gotta run. Let the people know where to find you out there across social media.
SPEAKER_01:You can find me at Christian Gorman or uh any of my work at the at uh badgerbacker.com.
SPEAKER_03:Make sure you guys check him out there. Badgerbacker. He's got tons of great stuff. The badger football team, some good stuff happening with Badger Football finally. So he's got that talking about that out there, Badger Men's Basketball. You know he's gonna be talking women's basketball here because it's looking good as of late here. A lot of exciting stuff happening around the UW programs. So it's it's just great to see. It's great to see some of the uh some of the other athletic programs that aren't talked about as much stepping up and into the spotlight a little bit and showing out there. So love to see that volleyball team. We forgot to mention that. Some big ranked wins over this last week. So some great stuff there. So with that, we're gonna be back here after the quick commercial break. Kyle's stopping by. We have some buck stock to get to yet today here. We got some NFL talk, all kinds of stuff. We'll be right back here. Wisconsin Sports on the GoTrade team. Wisconsin Sports on the Go with Trage. I'm your host, Trage, as we come back here on this Wednesday. So, Kyle, how are we doing on this Wednesday?
SPEAKER_00:Oh, I'm good. It's coming off a good week. You know, the the teams are winning, so I'm loving it. And had some really good NFL games this week. And the NBA, I'm I'm I'm loving it right now.
SPEAKER_03:The NBA is off to a good start. It's off to a good start. There, it's uh I wouldn't say anyone's really dominant right now. It's keeping it a little more even keel, a little more level playing field right now, especially in the Eastern Conference. You love to see that and a lot of surprise teams. So that's what we're gonna kind of talk about here tonight on the show. But glad to hear you are doing good. And as always, as always, Kyle, we got to start right here. We got to start with the mellow yellow minute, the trivia portion of the show in honor of my grandpa. He loved trivia and he loved mellow yellow. So we call it the mellow yellow minute. The the uh topic for tonight, because it was a little icy the other day. And people, for some reason, every time it gets icy around the state of Wisconsin, they forget how to drive on the ice. They they go through this summer where they can just gun it wherever they want to go and as fast as they want to go, and then all of a sudden it gets icy again or it gets snowy, and they just completely forget like, what is this? How do I drive on this? Oh my goodness. Like, oh, I gotta go. Yeah, it's it's yeah, people don't know how to plan for it. It's just madness. So, our topic is going to be the top five states with the highest number of snowstorm-related crashes. Okay, so there's our list. This is gonna be our list. I'm gonna give Kyle the five states, and I want you guys to play along too. If you can, if you guys can guess the five through one, one through five, whatever you want to do. If you can guess them in order, hit me up. 715-990-4914. That is 715-990-4914. If you can guess them one through five in order, we'll get you a prize. We'll get you a t-shirt over there from our fantastic new sponsor there. So, Kyle, here we go. And everybody out there, here we go. Pennsylvania, Ohio, Montana, Michigan, and Minnesota. So anybody out there playing 715-990-4914. That is 715-990-4914. Pennsylvania, Ohio, Montana, Minnesota, and Michigan. Kyle, can you put them in order from five to one because you love to go backwards? Five to one. What do we got there for number five on the list? This one's it's a I'm gonna give you this. It's gonna be a surprise because you would think this one would probably have a lot of snow.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. That's what's yeah, these are interesting states. So five, I will go with let's go Montana.
SPEAKER_03:Not Montana, close, close to Montana, close kind of close to Montana. Yeah, it's kinda.
SPEAKER_00:Is it Minnesota?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, Minnesota. Minnesota is number five. Minnesota nice, they call it there.
SPEAKER_00:All right, so Minnesota.
SPEAKER_03:On to number four.
SPEAKER_00:Four, I will go. Just on Montana at four.
SPEAKER_03:Montana is number four. So you are down to Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan.
SPEAKER_00:Three, I will go.
SPEAKER_03:Let's go with Pennsylvania three. Not Pennsylvania. Okay.
SPEAKER_00:All right. Then I'll go with let's go Ohio three.
SPEAKER_03:Ohio is number three. So you're down to Michigan and Pennsylvania one and two.
SPEAKER_00:So my thought has been Michigan one, Pennsylvania two.
SPEAKER_03:There you go. Michigan number one. Michigan has the highest number of winter driving fatalities and considered the most dangerous state for winter driving by most metrics. There you go. There you go. Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Montana, Minnesota. If it's snowing, if it's icy, avoid those roadways anywhere in those states. I'm surprised Pennsylvania, because Pennsylvania, they don't do it with crashes, they just get out of the cars and like that's just what they do out.
SPEAKER_00:Right.
SPEAKER_03:Just kidding, just kidding. The people of Pennsylvania are great. They're great. It's just when sports are involved, they get a little rowdy. That's all we need to know. We saw it. We always see it when the Phillies or whoever is in the playoffs and somebody goes there, and you just you don't even want to attend the game because you just know what's going to happen out there. But yeah, so there we go. There's the mellow yellow minute. Hopefully, one of you guys out there got it before Kyle, so we can get you a free t-shirt over there. But we'll let you know across the text in line. If you want to be involved in any portion of the show, make sure you're doing it. Hit your comments, questions, anything like that. 715-990-4914. That is 715-990-4914. So, Kyle, we got to talk some Bucks. Bucks looking, I mean, we talked about this last week, and it's like it's the constant theme every single week when you come back here. But this Bucks team, I think they're surprising a lot of people for what they've been able to do this year. Especially, I mean, you go you come off of a season where Damian had injuries, right? Glory. Damian Lillard, everything like that. Dame makes his exit. You don't know what you're gonna have in here. You get Kevin Porter back. Giannis, the whole offseason that was with Shams telling us he was leaving, he wanted to leave. Then comes reports that maybe he did. We don't, we have no idea. I'm not even gonna go to that anymore because I don't even care. But the Bucs are coming off an impressive win against the Mavs. That was after that game they dropped to the Rockets where they blew that game to the Rockets. Now they came off this game against the Mavs where they made a comeback. So, I mean, kind of reversed roles on the Mavs in that one, came back, won that game. What are your impressions as of late here as this Bucs team? They're kind of, I mean, you look at they it's uh a win against the Warriors, lost to the Kings, beat the Pacers, lost to the Raptors, beat the Bulls, lost to the Rockets, beat the Mavericks. What's your reaction? The consistency is it is it that inconsistency right now that's kind of making you nervous? Because that's kind of where I'm at right now. Is it like one night to the next, you don't know what you're gonna get out of this team? What are you seeing right now out of the box?
SPEAKER_00:Well, I think what you you know you have to look at this part of the season, especially the teams that went through a lot of turnover. I think there's still a learning process in terms of you know which guys work best with Giannis, Giannis's ability to trust everybody and know what they can and can't do in certain situations, especially late in the game. But you know, they're they're seven and four, they're in the top six. I think it speaks to the you know, the factor of Giannis. And as long as Giannis is out in the court, he's one of those players in the league that the pieces around him can change and he can still keep them competitive. And I think that's what you're seeing now. Now, the good thing with them winning is that maybe later in the season. They'll look even better for it because now some of the young players or some you know some of the players who had to up their role will be more uh experienced in it and may feel more comfortable in what they do on the court around Giannis. So I think the fact that right now they may not be the most consistent, but they're still having a good season, and I think that's good for what they could be, you know, January, February. Trade deadline comes around, and you know, maybe there's a uh piece out there that you know you can go snag with maybe with some of these players who are playing a little bit but uh above above their head right now. So yeah, I don't think there's anything to necessarily not like in general with the team, like seven and four, you'll take that any day.
SPEAKER_03:They're solid, they're solid across the board. There, there's nothing super flashy about this team right now, but there's a lot of solid pieces that are making it work. There's one guy, so we talked about the consistency, and I don't know, I've I've heard a lot of different Bucs fans talking about this. Miles Turner, the off-season acquisition. I always get this wrong. The off-season ad, right? I that word always baffles me to try to say. So I'm just gonna say the off-season ad to make it easier on myself here. The off-season ad that the Bucs had there in Miles Turner. This was supposed to be the big piece, right? The big signing to keep Giannis happy, to keep him in town. 11 points right now per game, right now, in 29 minutes. He's got two blocks per game. Not a terrible start to the season, but would you want to see a guy like Miles Turner be a little bit more of a focal point in the offense? Right now, it seems like they're it's a little bit everybody, right? It's Giannis, and then after that, it's a little bit everybody. Hit or mess with these guys. Do you want to see what you want to see, and do you think they need to make him more of a focal point within the offense? Try to get him going along with Giannis because those two could be a very good front court when you put them together.
SPEAKER_00:I mean, I think so. And you know, right or wrong, Bucks fans, NBA fans are gonna kind of equate Miles Turner to Dame Willard, where you know they they sent out Lillard, they kind of shocked people with the Turner signing. So I think because of that, they're gonna view Turner a certain way. And look, when you look at Turner's numbers, yes, the season's still early, but just based off of last year, a lot of his numbers are down. And that includes usage rate, which obviously factors into that. Uh, usage rate uh over the course of his career is around 20%, it's down to like 17.5, 18% this season. And you're seeing a dip, like I said, points. He's down from like 16 a game last year to 12, uh, even a free throw percentage. He was 77 last year, he's down to 67%. So it might just be him having to get used to not being as big of a part of the process nightly as he was in Indiana. Because in Indiana, I mean, even then, I kind of thought he could have done more, but he was kind of seen as that second third guy, depending on the night with Siakam or him, uh, along with Halliburton. Now, because, like you said, you know, you could get a Rollins Knight off of Giannis, you could get you know AJ Green, you can get a Porter, like they're trying to go about this as yes, we have Giannis, and Giannis is great, but we're not just gonna be Giannis-centric, like we're gonna try to sprinkle in other guys that you have to worry about. So, once again, winning covers all. So, if they end up being a playoff team and turn it's playing this way, you you have to look at it as a positive. But I I agree with you, I would like to see him do a little bit more uh on the court, and like I said, maybe with time he'll figure that out.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, no, I like that. And you know, you mentioned some other guys in there, like a Ryan Rollins, too. If you can, if you have that Ryan Rollins Giannis combo like we've seen so far this season, maybe that does make Miles Turner of number three, where he's he's gotta be that solid defender for you, he's got to be that presence for you in the post area, especially on the defensive end, the shot blocking ability that he has, but also a threat, right? And that's where I think a lot of Bucks fans are right now is he's I don't know if you'd say he's the biggest threat right now on the offensive end. So that's where I think Bucks fans are kind of leaning in and saying, okay, this was our big offseason guy. What do we we want to see more? And I think that's kind of where they're looking right now is to keep Giannis, to keep Giannis going, to help him out, they need a guy like that to elevate his game. And I think we're seeing that with some of these other guys, like you mentioned there, the complimentary play of a lot of these other guys, like uh Kyle Kuzma, who's been playing really well as of late here, or a Ryan Rollins, or an AJ Green, or like you said, when Porter comes back, those kinds of guys stepping up and filling into that. So I like that there. So where do you see this Bucs team right now fitting in in the Eastern Conference? Where do you see them? Because right now, like you said, the Bucs sitting there seven and four. They're second right now in what you the what you might call it, the uh the uh, what is it, the central division? That don't really matter anymore. They're second in the central. That doesn't really matter. Right now they're fifth in the east. Yeah. I wish the I wish the like central and that actually mattered still. That'd be that'd be interesting to see if because it's like they're in the central, but it doesn't really matter that they're second in the central. It doesn't really do anything for them. But either way, they're fifth in the east right now. You see Detroit Pistons up top, Knicks, Heat, Cavs, and then the Bucs, then the Bulls. Where do you see them right now? Because there's kind of a cluster at the seven and four mark right now. Where do you see them kind of fitting in right now? Are they as high as that three right now, or are you kind of seeing them more in that five to ten range? Where do you see this Bucs team fitting in right now with the rest of the the rest of this eastern conference?
SPEAKER_00:I mean, I think with the current state of the east, I kind of expect the Bucs to be a top five team. And like I said, if you look at you know, look at the East landscape, you can make a serious argument that you have the best player in the East. And obviously, in the NBA having that ability to throw out the best player on the court on a given night gives you a really good opportunity to win when you're talking about a game that's five on five, and as isolation-centric as the NBA can be, even though this year we're seeing a lot of teams play a run and gun type of style, which also could factor into the Turner aspect of it that we're seeing more teams play quicker than we have in years past. But um, yeah, I mean, look, the Bulls start off really well, they're starting to fade. So I think you're gonna you're you know starting starting to see kind of the regulation in the Bulls play. The Pistons, I think, are gonna be up there all year, so that's gonna be a team that the Bucks have to worry about. Uh the Knicks, the Knicks are gonna be a team up there, but I I could still argue you throw the Bucs and the Knicks on the court. I would probably trust Giannis over Brunson. And I think that's where the Bucs can kind of live in you know that group with the the Knicks and the Cavs and the Bucs. I feel like the Bucs should feel like they can live in that group with those with those teams right there. The Heat, I don't know. I don't know. I don't think the Heat keep this up. So I think top five should be a safe bet for the Bucs.
SPEAKER_03:I like that. I like and you said the best thing there. You you might have the best player in the Eastern Conference in Giannis. So, and and most people say you probably do have the best player in the Eastern Conference in Giannis. So I think that right there tells you you belong in the top five. You're gonna be in that mix for that top five as long as Giannis is there and you keep these other guys playing at this level. So I love that there. So, Kyle, we're gonna hit a quick break. We're gonna come back here, and then Kyle's gonna stick around. We're gonna talk a little NFL on the backside. We're gonna do her pick'em and then we're gonna get out of here for the day. We'll be right back here on Wisconsin. We're gonna get to Wisconsin Sports on the Go with Trage. I'm your host, Trage, as we come back here on this Wednesday. And hey, this next segment here is brought to you by Peggy Sue, the lifelong resident of Central Wisconsin. Peggy Sue with Century21 Gold Key Realty knows the area and the market. Don't trust anyone else with your real estate needs than our friend down there, Peggy Sue at Century21 Gold Key Realty. So Kyle is back in here for a little bit of a we're gonna talk about some NFL because there was some interesting stuff. So we'll start right with the Brian Dable. Giants lose to the Bears. And I don't know if the outcome of this game might have changed the fate of Brian Dable. Because they lose to the Bears, the Bears come back in this game, the Giants look like they're in command of it, but then Jackson Dark gets hurt again. And then we see the Bears come back, win that game. It stinks because does Brian Dable get fired if they don't lose that game, if Jackson Dark doesn't get hurt? And Kyle, I guess my one problem I'm gonna say I have with this is that you brought in a rookie quarterback with a lame duck coach. And when you have a lame duck coach, they're going to throw out the best thing that they think they can do, whether they think that thing is gonna get hurt or not, they're going to try to make something happen and force things to try and make them happen because they're trying to keep their job. They can't do what they want because they're like, oh, Jackson Dart's really good at running the ball, right? He's really good at running around. I'm gonna let him run because his legs are my best chance to keep my job. Well, you don't have anybody to block, you don't have anybody up front. So it's just you don't have a wide receiver number one, you don't have any weaponry left. Scataboo gets hurt, you don't have nothing to keep around Jackson Dart, but you have a lame duck coach who keeps trying to force things to happen. And it's just it it really bites me because why put a coach, why put anybody in that situation? Now now Jackson Dart's got to wait for a new head coach. Maybe it works out better than what Brian Dable was. And I'm not saying that Brian Dable is the greatest coach in the world, I just think it's a terrible situation, and they put themselves in this terrible situation, basically knowing that this was probably going to be the outcome. So, Kyle, I mean, what are your thoughts? Brian Dable gets fired by the Giants there.
SPEAKER_00:I I think for Dayball, it wasn't just the Bears game, it was also the Broncos game that I feel like is was weighing over his head. I could make the argument that because of the emergence of Dart, you might have been okay to let Dayball finish out the year and probably give him next year. Because at that point, Dart knows he's a starter, he can operate in the offseason as a starting quarterback. I think what Dart is gonna have to learn, and I guess a quick little sidestep Dart has to learn to protect himself. Because that play he got hurt on, like he was trying to run through like three guys, almost fumbled it, recovered it, and then takes a side swiping hit and he hits his head on the turf. And it was a very cold day, so you know the the turf was like cold and frozen. Like I think he'll learn that as he kind of matures in the league, especially if he wants a long career. Uh, I think Dayball will probably land on his feet as an OC somewhere because he still did that work with Josh Allen. You can't just toss that aside. Yeah, I feel like he did some good things with with Jackson Dart with the situation that he was handed in New York. You know, the Daniel Jones era didn't work for him, but I don't know. Daniel Jones needs to go to Indy and he looks better. It could just be a system thing there, just fits better within than Dayvalls in New York. So it's unfortunate you would like to see that he would rather that uh they rather would give him the rest of the year at least and then make that decision in the offseason. Because, like I said, Jackson Dart's a young guy, you're now switching on him mid-season with an interim coach, so he's gonna do that. They'll probably still run the same system, but then in the offseason, he's gotta sit there and wonder who are they gonna bring in now to now develop my career even more.
SPEAKER_03:Well, and if you had a Malik neighbors out there and you had Scataboo and this is what happened, okay, but you don't have neighbors has been out, you don't have neighbors, and Scataboo gets hurt, and the Jackson Dart's been constantly been battling this issue for a couple times now here. I mean, you had the issue with the blue tent there with Dable out there. So, I mean, you just you've had this issue all season long now with trying to keep guys healthy, and you just don't have the weapons. You you don't, and that's where you know you just mentioned Daniel Jones, and and maybe you know, like a system change helped him, but also new weapons with the Colts definitely help. Having one of the best running backs in football right now and Jonathan Taylor running in the backfield, that definitely helps. Having a good offensive lineup front there who can lock for you, that helps. And Pittman out there awesome. I mean, you just you had this, it's just more confidence, I guess, that you're gonna get playing in a system like that. Jackson Dart's got all the swagger and confidence in the world. It's just a matter of he doesn't have the guys to throw the football to. He's trying to do a lot with his legs, trying to do a lot by, like you said, running through three guys. And it's he's trying to do a lot, and Dable can't, it's like he can't protect him because he's like, I gotta keep my job. So he's like, I gotta let this guy run. But so I'm not gonna tell him, okay, you got to get down and everything like that, because he knows well, Jackson Dart's legs are a good way for me to try to make something work here. So that's the problem, I guess, that I'm thinking that you run into with that. So we have another head coach on the hot seat. We've talked about this for a while tonight here, Matt LaFleur. It it hasn't, the offense hasn't looked pretty, Kyle. And I would say actually, if I had to, if I had to just speak from what I think, the offense hasn't looked good since the commanders game. It looked good for a half against the Steelers. The second half looked good against the Steelers. Outside of that second half, I thought it looked kind of rough. Dallas looked good. I mean, this team, it the offense, it's been so inconsistent, I guess I should say. It's looked good at times, then it's looked bad. It's been very inconsistent for the Green Bay Packers, especially in the play calling department.
unknown:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Is Matt LaFleur on some kind of hot seat right now, in your eyes, with the Green Bay Packers, if the trend continues? Because right now, I mean, honestly, could you look at the Packers schedule and tell me who they're going to be? I can't. I can't look at this schedule of the Giants, Vikings, Lions, Bears, Broncos, Bears, Ravens, Vikings. Lions, yeah, I said the Lions and the Bears twice. You got the Bears twice, you got the Lions, you got the Vikings twice, you got the Ravens, you got the Broncos and Giants. I can't look at that and say with certainty that they're going to beat any team right now. I can't because the defense has played good, but the offense, I mean, they put up 13 points against the Panthers at home. They put up set they put up 20 points in the last two games against the Panthers and Eagles, and their defense has given up 26. That's that's I mean, wow. So, I mean, is Matt LaFleur in your eyes on any kind of hot seat right now?
SPEAKER_00:Um, I mean, I I think when you look at the fact that they were the top seed in the NFC for a few weeks, I think expectations were elevated, and a lot of people started looking ahead like, you know, is that a team that January could get home gains, and you know, going to Lambeau is a tough trip for a lot of teams. Like, could they be a Super Bowl team? I think those conversations were were happening, and then it seemed like they kind of lost their identity. And I think the weird thing is when you watch the Packers play, it's like they have Josh Jacobs, but it's like he doesn't really get going uh as much as he was last year, and you have a really talented quarterback in Jordan Love, but it's like at times it seems like they try to box him in so he doesn't make mistakes. And I think unfortunately, this may sound crazy, but I feel like Jordan Love, you kind of have to just let him be and do his thing. You have wide receivers all over the field, you know. The the argument about Green Bay not having a number one, whatever. But if you're gonna tell me you can run out there, Christian Watson, Romeo Dobbs, even Wicks, who made some catches last night, had did have a you know some drops against the Eagles, but you know, Tucker Crab injury, I get that, but Musgrave is not a bad tight end. I I almost feel like sometimes, just because Jacobs, Jacobs is back there, why not just go like spread out and just let Jordan Love cook for a little bit? Like at times with the Eagles, it seemed like they just didn't want to make that big mistake, so they try to be careful, but then random times they'd be aggressive, and you're just like kind of mixed signals. Yeah, so you I think they need to re-establish who they are as a team and just go forward with that.
SPEAKER_03:I agree, find an identity, and and the hardest part is the the lack of good play by the offensive line. The offensive line has been bad. The offensive line has been bad, and it just seems like there's no end to. I mean, Jordan Love, when he has a clean pocket, is one of the best quarterbacks in all football. And when he's under pressure, it's bad. It gets bad fast. And when the Eagles were able to rush four and get home and drop back seven, you only have so many guys running out there for passes. So you can play deep. You had cover two, you're playing deep, you're playing that cover two shell. You got two guys playing deep. It's just it wasn't gonna work out for the Packers in their favor at all. And that's what I think is also leading to the inconsistent play calling and everything like that. It all starts up front, and the offensive line has just got to be better for the Green Bay Packers. So I agree. I I don't, like you're saying, basically, like you're saying there, he's not on a hot seat at the moment, but they got to come back to finding an identity for this football team and what they want to do. I don't think they know what they want to do right now because of like you're like you're hinting at, like I'm saying, the lack of offensive line play is really hurting what they want to do because they want to have Josh Jacobs involved, but they can't get it going within between the tackles. They can't get it going on the outside there. So then they're trying to take shots. Well, they can't take shots down the field because teams are playing cover two. They're just dropping back two safeties, waiting for Jordan Love to try to air it out. So it's like, okay, we'll hit it with the crossers, try to get that open. They're avoiding the crossers for some reason. It's just it's inconsistency. That's that's all it is. It's inconsistency right now, and that's definitely something that's got to get fixed there. So, Kyle, we got two things left before we got to end the show here. We got our fantasy players and we got to pick them. Kyle, what do you got? Fantasy players to look out for for this week. If you don't have them on your roster, you need to be looking for these guys in your fantasy free agency? Yeah, and free agency out there in fantasy.
SPEAKER_00:So, first off, if you need a defense, Falcons defense free in 79% of the leagues. They're facing a Panthers offense that's 27th in yards. The Falcons defense, 10 uh 10th in yards given up. I feel like it's a good matchup for a Falcons team that's looking for a win. If you need a quarterback, this name may sound crazy. Tua against the commanders. The commanders defense is giving up an average of 24 fantasy points a game, and Tua is available in 86% of leagues. And you know, Tua's coming off a good game against the Bills. And then for a flex, Colson Loveland against the Vikings defense. The Vikings have given up a touchdown to tight ends in four of their last five games. And Loveland is free in 59% of leagues right now. So there's three you can look for.
SPEAKER_03:There we go. There we go. And Cale Williams has orchestrated a lot of late game drives and game winners there. So Loveland definitely gonna be involved in that madness there. So, Kyle, we got to do our pick'em here before we gotta get out of here. Before we gotta get before we have to get out of here. I don't know. We're at the end of the show, it doesn't matter anymore. Um, so so last week, Kyle, he had the Rams, Texans, Giants. So he was two out of three there. He got the Giants wrong. They're Giants, like we were talking about. Bears came back and won that game. And I took the Panthers, Rams, or Panthers, Ravens, and Chargers. The Ravens got the win against the Vikings, Chargers got the win against the Steelers, and well, the Panthers lost to the Saints because unlike the Packers, the Saints realized that if you go vertical against the Panthers and not side to side, good things can happen. So we were both two for three last week, so it was a tie. So we go into this week, Kyle, with a it's a new life. It's a new life. It's a new life this week, Kyle. What do you have for your well, who went first last time? Was it me or you? Who went first last time?
SPEAKER_00:I think I went first last time.
SPEAKER_03:All right, I'll take mine. I'll take mine here. Okay, let's go with the tough one here. This I'm gonna go with my toughie right off the bat. I'm gonna go with my toughie right off the bat. Give me Buffalo against Tampa. Buffalo's at home, coming off a loss. It's gonna be a noon game. Gimme Buffalo to win that one in the chilly weather up there in Buffalo.
SPEAKER_00:Okay. I like that one. Um, y'all go with a tough one as well. This one might be a little bit of a surprise. Broncos over the Chiefs. Ooh. I I like the defense. It scares me, but I'll I'll take the Broncos defense to hold the Chiefs offense.
SPEAKER_03:It might be like 13 to 10. That's that's for darn sure. It might be 13 to 10. They might win that game. That's where they're kind of. It looks like Bo Nicks is scared to screw up when he's out there. It's like he's scared to screw up because Sean Payton is gonna take away his birthday cake or something, or take his toys away when he gets home. So so next up there, let's see. Let's see. I just took the bills. That was my toughie. Let's go with an easier one here. Okay, I'm gonna go with an easy one. Give me. I don't even know if that's that one might not be easy. Give me the Chargers over Jacksonville. Give me the Chargers over Jacksonville. I don't even know if that's an easy one because Jacksonville, they they find it and then they lose it.
SPEAKER_00:Okay. Uh I will go with. I think this game's gonna actually be closer than the spread would say, but I'll take the Texans over the Titans.
SPEAKER_03:I was thinking Texans, Titans. I was thinking about that one there. Okay, last pick here. Last pick for me. Oof. These are there's there's some good, there's some ugly good games in here. There's some ugly good games. Give me this. Is gonna be a good game. This is gonna be a really good game. Give me Seattle to win against the Rams. I think Seattle might be the most complete team in football. And I think the hate that they get is because Sam Darnold's the quarterback. And I just think Sam Darnold's playing different than even what we saw in Minnesota with the Seattle Seahawks right now. I think he found that click with uh Najigba. And I just think ever since that happened, they have just taken off. Give me Seattle to win that one on the road.
SPEAKER_00:I like that one. Um, I guess I will go with let's let's make this final one a good one. No what? I'll I'll I'll do it. I'll I'll take my Patriots over the Jets.
SPEAKER_03:I like that one. Patriots over the Jets there. There we go. Kyle, thank you as always for hopping on to hopping on tonight here. Let the know let the people know where to find you out there across social media.
