SPEAKER_04:

Welcome back into Wisconsin Sports on the Go with Trage. I'm your host, Trage, and we're coming back here for hour number two of the show here tonight. I hope you guys are enjoying your Wednesday so far. If you guys want to be involved in the show, make sure you do it. 715-990-4914. That is 715-990-4914. Make sure you like, subscribe, follow across all the social media platforms. That would be a huge help to us here on the show. So Christian is back. We're going to continue our Badger Talk there from hour number one. This next segment of the show is brought to you by Badger Tree Care. Do you have a tree that's become a problem? Maybe it's an eyesore in the backyard. You're just like, I got to get rid of that. You know, right now, winter season. Maybe a nice time to get rid of it. Give our friends down there a badger tree care call. Trevor will come out. He'll get rid of that thing. He is fantastic. The work that he does. Tree there, tree gone. You didn't even notice that it was like you didn't notice anything. It's just that good. That's what he does. Badge of tree care, Trevor Barr. So Christian is back here. We were talking about Wisconsin versus Michigan. They're the huge upset over the weekend. Just talking about this badge basketball team. Last night, a wow, an exciting finish there against Minnesota. A game that definitely the Badgers had their struggles in the first half. Second half looked a lot better. First half kind of made you nervous. You're like, oh boy, are they resorting back to old Wisconsin that we saw before the Michigan game? Like, is this what is this going to be the inconsistent play that they're going to get? Second half, bounce back, played a lot better in that second half. Ended up John Blackwell knocking down the buzzer beater three to win that one. That was exciting. I didn't even get to watch it, to be honest with you guys. I I watched it after the fact. I watched the whole game up until there was 30 seconds left. And then, as you guys know, we're pre-recorded here, just so you guys know. But I was on I was doing a segment with Kyle and I'm watching the screen here, and I look back up and the badgers are cheering like they won. And I'm like, oh yeah, I know they probably won at the free throw line, this and that. And then all of a sudden I'm like scrolling on social media, you know, one of the breaks, and I'm like, it was a buzzer beater. Like I missed this. So I mean, it was just like, of course, of course, I missed that buzzer beater. So I mean, all in all, though, John Blackwell, you almost needed a second game to fully like feel like he was back. He's back. John Blackwell's back. Like this, this is the John Blackwell. This is the takeover of the game, John Blackwell, that we've been waiting to see again. We saw it early on in the season, it kind of went away. Now it's back, and you hope that it's here to stay. I mean, Christian, the way that John Blackwell is playing as of late right now, wow. Like if he continues this play, you've had Nick Boyd this whole time. If he continues this play, you get that play from the biggs, and then, like, we've been talking about Braden and Carrington off the bench there, what he's been able to deliver. I mean, honestly, Christian, like this Badger team is looking looking like we expected them to see going into the season.

SPEAKER_01:

Absolutely. I mean, we're how long could Blackwell stayed in that slouch or in that like slump? Uh honestly, he was in a lot longer than I thought he was gonna be. But I mean, like, what a what a good couple of games to break out of it against Michigan and and then Minnesota. Like that Minnesota team, too, with Nico Medvac, and because his name is like new head coach there. He's already got that thing like turning around and stuff. Like it's I don't know, Wisconsin's 110 straight now against the Golfers, but I think that's gonna be a good rivalry going forward the next few years, just because I think that coach is a heck of a coach.

SPEAKER_04:

I thought, you know, honestly, in this game, Wisconsin went, they didn't go to the paint enough. I don't think they went to the paint enough. You had the size advantage, they went there a few times, and then all of a sudden they'd settle again, especially in that first half. They were settling a little bit, and that's when I was like, wow, good Greg, the call timeout. Get the you know, seg up your offense, get guys in the inside. I saw something that I liked though. I kind of like that high post look when they threw John Blackwell in there and he made that uh he made that weak side pass from Braden Carrington. I like that high action that they threw in there, and I know you know it's it was against a zone there, but maybe you can try to work a little high low post there with your bigs. Maybe you can try to work into that high post area with some of that and try to because we've been talking about working inside out with the offense. And I mean, I I texted you during the game. I was like, wow, when you move the basketball, look how good it looks. Like this team's really good when they're moving the ball. It's just when it gets stagnant, right? That high low look, maybe that you can kind of work into there, get that high post area, try to get the ball in there, look for that weak side. I think there's something that's there. You have to work into the post some way, some shape, or form. Maybe it's in that area. I don't know how you get it done. I just feel like they lack that interior presence at all. I don't need a lot of like this team. I don't know if they're built to be back to the basket, right? Be Alowskis isn't back to the basket guy yet. No one winter definitely isn't that guy yet. But I feel like you can you still have to be able to work it down there. You still have to be able to look inside out from the post area. So that's what I'm saying. Maybe if you work some of that high low action, I don't know what the the best answer is at this point, but I feel like there has to be more inside work done.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, and I mean, I feel like we saw that earlier this season too, when rap was starting and everything. I thought it was, I was thinking we're gonna see a lot more of it this year. Rap and winter working high low and stuff. I think, I mean, granted, that was like against Campbell and you know, S-I-U-E or whatever their name is, but like I felt like as we kind of went on, just kind of disappeared. And like you said, we start just kind of settling for outside shots rather than working it inside. And, you know, before these last few games, I feel like Boyd has been probably one of the biggest culprits. Like he just dribbles around, dribbles around, and then either he tries to go in and do some contested layup or he settles and just pulls up for the three, right? So I think guys to your point, I think this against Minnesota, they definitely move the ball a lot more, especially when Blackwell was in there. And like maybe, I mean, Blackwell's just and he's his turnaround from the his turnaround jumper from the free throw line is just really good. So like, I don't know, maybe even if you're not going against the zone, you stick him in there and just let him move the ball a little bit. He's obviously shows he can move the ball, he can turn around, shoot, he can drive. So I like that, but I don't know. I think I think we definitely have to attack the paint a little bit more, too. So, I mean, what do they use? They shot 33 threes against Minnesota. So still, still a lot.

SPEAKER_04:

You know, I really liked against Michigan and going back to the Michigan game, what we saw from Nick Boyd attacking the attacking the basket. He did a little bit in this game, too, here, but John Blackwell even getting downhill and getting to the rim, those kind of things. They they definitely when you get inside, and that's where when you get inside, look for those kick out passes. That's what they did so well against Michigan was opening up shooters that way. Bielowskis, a lot of his shots came from drive, kick. It was always there, drive, kick. They they collapse off Bielowskis, and then boom, he was right there. That's where you got to look if you're the badges, like we're saying, you got to look for those kind of actions there and try to get him involved. So definitely some good things that we saw against Minnesota, some exciting, exciting stuff, like we just mentioned off the top there. I mean, Wisconsin, a couple wins here in a row. It's starting to look a little bit better. Three in a row, actually. UCLA and then Michigan and then Minnesota. I mean, we talked about that three-game stretch there with Purdue, UCLA, and Michigan. And we said to ourselves, wow, if they win one of these games, like we'd be feeling great about ourselves. They won two of those games, Chris. I mean, they're two and one in that really tough three-game stretch. And now you get into the I don't want to say easier because the Big Ten schedule is always tough. Begin that easier little stretch right now. So hopefully the Badgers can kind of put her into cruise control now. They have Rutgers coming up next. That's gonna be on the 17th. I don't even know what my days are right now. I think that's this weekend. Feel like that's Saturday. Feel like that's Saturday. That's sad. So Saturday against Rutgers, they have that game on Peacock at three o'clock. So we're gonna talk about that game on Saturday here. We'll preview that game for you guys. So, Christian, before I have to let you go, transfer portal update. Any big names that we should know about we haven't talked about here over the last week.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh man, I don't know. It feels like stuff's kind of slowing down. I mean, technically, it closes on Friday, right? Um, they brought in a lot of secondary guys, and I think that kind of then then that led to uh Emilio Agar hopping in the portal. So that's a guy I didn't see hopping in. So the guy, he's a red shirt freshman last year, got three starts. I mean, you figured with Rico Home and leaving, he was kind of in line to get some more starts this year, but badgers went kind of secondary heavy. So, I mean, he hopped in. Obviously, we all know Joe Brunner hopped in, but I mean, I don't know, you could argue how big of a loss that I mean as a veteran presence as a leader, yes. But I mean, that offensive line as a whole last year was kind of a wreck anyway. So they got to rebuild it, and I guess if he's out, he's out. So outside of that, I mean, we know all the big names. Uh, I think they're still looking for a guy here or there, but I mean, I think most most of the big names are if they haven't already entered in the last and like they wouldn't be in the next few days. I think it's kind of the dust is kind of settling on the class. I mean, they got like 24 guys they brought in.

SPEAKER_04:

It's a pretty good class from what we've seen so far. So you love you love what you're seeing right now, and they've added some decent names in there. A lot of guys off the edge. We were talking about edge rusher. They brought a couple guys in to bring out the edge there. They got some defensive linemen, a couple defensive linemen coming in. So they kind of bolster up that defensive line. Like you said, offensive line. So there's definitely a lot of good things here right now in the transfer portal. So, Christian, thank you as always for stopping by tonight here on the show. Let people know where to find you out there across social media.

SPEAKER_01:

As always, you can find me at Christian Borman.

SPEAKER_04:

Make sure you guys check him out. He's got fantastic stuff out there. He's talking about everything. Transfer portal. He's talking about badger hoops. He's got all the need-to-know stuff there across their social media platforms there. So when we come back here from the break, Kyle's gonna stop by. We have to talk about that wild wild card weekend that we watched. We'll be right back here. In the Wisconsin Sports on the Go with Trage, I am your host, Trage, as we're coming back in here on this Wednesday. And hey, this next segment, Kyle stopped by. We're gonna talk a little NFL, that wild wild card weekend that we watched there. We're gonna get to that divisional round games. We got to do our pick'em for the week there. But before we get to that, I gotta hit the sponsor of this next next segment here, and that is Ridgetop Exteriors, Central Wisconsin's trusted roofing siding and window pros. Visit ridgetopexteriors.com for more information. So, Kyle is here tonight. Kyle, how are we doing? It's Wednesday. We're getting close to divisional round action here in the NFL. Everything else is heating up right now. How are you doing on this Wednesday?

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, I'm doing great. Yeah. Well, football playoffs are here. I love it. It's it was a great weekend, like you said. Very competitive games, and I'm ready to talk about it.

SPEAKER_04:

Oh, I can't wait. There's a lot of good, a lot of good games to talk about here tonight. But before we get to that, even, we got to hit our favorite segment of the show, and that is the mellow yellow minute, the trivia portion of the show in honor of my grandpa. He loved mellow yellow, he loved trivia. We call it the mellow yellow minute. So we're on this new kick for this 2026 year. And to start it, we're doing the top five sports in different countries. Last week, we did Japan. This week, we're gonna do Australia. I asked Kyle, I'm like, what do you want to do this week? He's like, Australia. I'm like, okay, well, that's that's uh that's a good request right there. So Kyle, I'm gonna give off the top five. And if anybody wants to be involved in the trivia, make sure you guys hit me up. 715-990-4914. You can hit me up, you can get involved in the trivia here. Top five, Kyle. Sports in Australia. I will read them off, of course, in no particular order, and then Kyle will try to guess them. So we have rugby, soccer, basketball, Australian rules football, and cricket.

SPEAKER_00:

It's an interesting list. Uh so I'm gonna start at five. I would go basketball.

SPEAKER_04:

Basketball is number five. Okay. It's not huge over there. It's not huge in Australia, it doesn't seem to be.

SPEAKER_00:

Right. You know, they're still growing there. Four, I will go with soccer.

SPEAKER_04:

It is soccer. Kyle is on a roll tonight. Basketball, soccer. So we have cricket, rugby, and an Australian rules football left on the board.

SPEAKER_00:

These are the three I figured we're in the top three, so I gotta figure out this one. Three, I'm gonna go cricket.

SPEAKER_04:

It is not cricket.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay. So give me rugby.

SPEAKER_04:

Rugby is number three. So we have Australian rules football and cricket as our top two.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm gonna assume Australian rules football is one and cricket is two.

SPEAKER_04:

That is correct. That is correct. So we have Australian rules football, the AFL comes in at number one, cricket as number two, rugby as number three, soccer as number four, and basketball as number five. Other key sports are netball, walking and running, and tennis and golf. I don't know how walking and running qualifies into the top list there. This Australian rules football, I gotta do more research into this because it's like it's a fast-paced, high-scoring contact sport played around an oval field with 18 players per side using kicking, handballing, and running to move an oval ball, aiming to kick it through center central posts for six points or outer post for one point. That seems crazy. I gotta watch that. This list last weekend two times. Did you? Did you? Yeah, is it exciting? It tells me it's exciting. They tell me they got huge crowds for it. I can only imagine it's gotta be an exciting.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, I mean, most popular sport down there. It's I will so whenever I watch it, I'm like, what's the difference between this and rugby? I still haven't really figured it out, but it it looks it looks the same to me, but they call it two different things. I don't know.

SPEAKER_04:

It looks intense from what I'm watching here. It looks intense. I I watched, you know, it's not even the weirdest thing I've seen over the I watched car juizu, is what it's called, or something like that. Like these two people are buckled in a car, and like they have to like do like I don't know, it's like karate in a car. I don't even know. Like, I was watching it, I'm like, how did they do like they're like this guy did this move? I'm like, what did he do? He rolled over the other guy in a car, and then he's got him tucked into a seatbelt. And I'm what am I watching right now? I'm like, I don't even know what I'm invested in at this point. That's what happened. You scroll for too long on Twitter, and all of a sudden you're watching car jujitsu, and you're like, I don't even know how to say jujitsu right. And this is what I'm watching right now. So, anyways, let's get let's get out of that car jujitsu, whatever the heck it's called there. Let's get out of that. Let's talk some NFL, something that we try to pretend like we know something about, right, guys. So let's get to this NFL, the wild weekend that was. There was a lot of really good games, a lot of tight finishes, and some less than thrilling games, I guess you could say. So, I mean, we could start right away. The Saturday slate, Rams beat the Panthers 34 to 31. Rams had a comeback in that one, Bears beat the Packers. I don't want to talk too much about that right now, but again, Bears had a comeback in that game over the Packers, Bills, Jaguars ended up in a close game there. So, Kyle, I mean, just looking at the grand scheme of the games, which were the ones that stood out to you? As like, wow, I can't believe that was the finish that I watched.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. Uh I'd probably go with the Panthers-Rams game because the Panthers played so well. I thought they probably deserved to win it. They played well enough to win the game. And then late Stafford had the ball, he had enough time on the clock. Carolina kind of dialed back their pressure, which against a quarterback like Stafford, you can't necessarily do. And Parkinson made a great play on the sideline, stay in bounds and you know, keep his bounce and get into the end zone. And that was that. And I think for Carolina, they can use this to kind of springboard into next year, but that was definitely a fun finish for me. And I think the finish that we may remember Houston and Pittsburgh, not because the game was competitive, but kind of the ramifications coming out of that. Tomlin stepping away, Aaron Rodgers, the questions about whether or not he's gonna continue to play at 42. It's it's interesting. It's like franchise altering for Pittsburgh after that game.

SPEAKER_04:

It baffled me that the Pittsburgh fans were blaming Tomlin after that loss. And you watched it and you said, How is this team in the playoffs? Like just watching it, just seeing that offensive line just get manhandled the whole game by the Texans defensive front. I mean, Rodgers didn't really have any time at all to do anything in the pocket. He was constantly getting bull right. They were bringing four and getting home at times. I mean, it was it was just that kind of Texans really good defense, but at the end of the day, I mean, to watch that team and what he what he's actually taken to the playoffs for how many years straight now, I think it's hats off to the guy. Like, that's wow, look what you did with this team. Can you imagine if you put him on a good team now, what he could do with a good team with a good roster? I I think a lot of fans would be surprised if they saw it. I don't know. Some some would be like, wow, this is what we saw coming, and others would be like, wow, he's actually a good coach. He's a really good coach. I mean, to take what he's done and to take the teams that he has to the playoffs, you're gonna expect this is the outcomes you're gonna get. I I don't know why it's baffling to see that with the rosters that they are putting together. You have a good defense, outside of that, your offense is when was the last time the Steelers had a good offense? Like a really good offense? Ben Rothensburger days? Probably. Maybe that was the last time you could say you had a solid court. Rogers didn't play terrible this season, but he also is older and the roster was eh. So, I mean, I don't know. I the Mike Tomlin hate, I I the people who get in that, I I just like whatever, shut it off. I don't even care. So, yeah, I I thought that some less than the Sunday night game and the Monday night game were not as advertised. Not what you were hoping for, I guess you could say the the Patriots, Chargers, it was gonna go one of two ways. You were talking to me before the game. You're like, if the Patriots get the run game going, this could be a really good game. But then we saw Justin Herbert. What are your thoughts on Justin Herbert? Because when I watch him, everybody's like, oh, he's so good, he's so good, he's got all these talents. And I watch and I'm like, what, where? Well, what I mean, he's a good quarter, but he's good. I'm not saying he's not good. I'm not saying, though, he's like, we're throwing him in top top 10 rankings every single season. Oh, he's better than this guy, he's better than Jordan Love, he's better than this. And I watch and I'm like, I don't see it. I'm not seeing that he's better than all these guys. So I mean, Kyle, where where are you at with the old Justin Herbert? I just don't see it. They blame the wide receivers, they blame the offensive line, they blame the coordinators every single year. But at some point, you got to come back to the same guy, you have to come back to the same point and say, Oh, maybe something's not working here.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, I think with Herbert, it's he's like a top 10 talent with a lacking resume. And until he gets that playoff when he's now 0-3 in the three games we've seen so far, he had a horrible second half against the Jags, which allows them to come back and win that game. He looks completely lost against the Texans, throws four picks to one touchdown. And then against the Patriots, no touchdowns, no interceptions, but he's getting beat around behind an O-line that yes, was injured, but it seemed like he was playing hesitant in terms of running instead of looking downfield. There were some throws that he did miss, you know, early in the game, the fourth down, he missed um Keenan Allen in the corner, I believe it was. So I kind of just put Herber in the same boat with Lawrence and guys like that who highly touted skill set is there, they just don't have the resume to back it up.

SPEAKER_04:

Right, right. I know it's just every single season, it's a different excuse for why it didn't work. And at some point, it's either gotta work or he's just gonna be seen in the eyes of a lot of people as well, this guy just isn't it, he's just not it yet. So, I mean, yeah, I agree. Like the talent's there, like I said, he's a good quarterback, but I can't put him up in that great category until he does something for you, until he shows you something. Good quarterbacks, great quarterbacks elevate good wide receivers, they make them that much better. And I we just keep complaining about the wide receiver room and everything else. And it's like at the end, it just gets exhausting to listen to at the end of the day. So, yeah, that's kind of where I'm at with the whole Justin Herbert thing right now. Outside of that, I mean the 49ers Eagles, it finally came back to bite the Eagles, the the dysfunction that they've had all season long on offense. And Brock Purdy played a pretty darn good game. I thought the 49ers it's one. Of those games where the 49ers did what they had to do to win. That's all. That's what they did. They did what they had to do to win in that game. So outside of that, I mean, what a what a wild card weekend. I mean, there's a lot of good games, a lot of close games there. Like I said, I don't really want to talk about the uh the one that's you know glaring in our faces all the time, the Packers and the Bears, but we got to get to our pick'em for this week, Kyle. We got to get to our pick'em here. We got the divisional round. First up, Kyle. First up. What do we got? We have four games, four games on the docket. Okay, Kyle. We get two. Last week there, what you I think I lost. I picked the Niners. I know I picked the Niners to win. I picked the Packers, so I'm already one and one there. I had all the NFC. I can't remember who the heck. I think I picked the Rams. I picked I picked the Rams. Rams, so I'm two and one. And then you pick Bills. You had Patriots. You had, yeah, Kyle one again. You know, it's just it's a common theme at this point here. I go bold. Kyle just he wins. That's just what that's just what happens. So, Kyle, we gotta do our picking for this week. We got an even split right here. So maybe I can win this week. Maybe I maybe I'll win the Super Bowl week. I don't even know at this point here. But Kyle, who do you got? Who is gonna be your first pick for the weekend?

SPEAKER_00:

These are some interesting games here. So first off, I think I'll take uh Seahawks over the Niners. Niners are even more beat up with the Kittle Achilles injury. I think that defense is gonna be swarming around Brock Purdy, and it's just gonna be whether or not he can find I guess Juwan Jennings CMC out of the backfield to take some pressure off him, but I think that crowd's gonna be rotty, so give me Seattle over the Niners.

SPEAKER_04:

Kyle's got Seattle. Oh give me the Rams over the Bears. I just need that. I need that. I just I yeah, give me the Rams over the Bears as a salty Packer fan over here. I think they're I think the Rams are gonna beat them either way because like JV and Bullard said after the game, the Packers, they did it to themselves. They didn't get they beat themselves in that game. So I I just I like the Rams better. I like them better offensively, defensively. I think they're gonna be able to go all in on what the Bears because Bears struggle on defense. So I like the Rams. Not just because I'm a salty Packer fan, I think the Rams will be better.

SPEAKER_00:

No, I get the uh no one. I'm I'm gonna leave the Patriots game for you.

SPEAKER_04:

Oh man.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm gonna take Denver over the Bills. Uh look, the Bills are another team. That's banged up. Shavers has an ACL injury. Gabe Davis was lost against Jacksville to an ACL injury. At a certain point, you know, Josh Allen, if he can jump in the phone booth and turn to Superman, maybe he gets it done, but I think that defense is gonna be tough. So I'll take Denver. Only question will be the will be the offensive boat next, but I think they'll do enough. I think it's gonna be a close game, though.

SPEAKER_04:

I did not want this game. I'm gonna be honest. I was avoiding this game. This is gonna be this is uh this is a because you have a really good defense in the Texans, but a really struggling offense. And then you have a Patriots team who played well defensively, as we saw against the Chargers, but offensively left things to be desired. Man, this is gonna be a really I I think this is gonna be a really low-scoring game. Really low-scoring game. Man. Oh, this one's tough. Give me the give me the Texans. Give me the Texans to pull off the upset. I the Patriots are almost there. I just think they're one of those teams where we talk, we've talked about teams in the past. I I said it with the Packers, and they still seem like they're light years away. I I feel like the Patriots are a year ahead of schedule, you know, and and that's okay. That's okay. They're showing things this season that they can build off of. They have a lot of salary capital, they have a lot of things to work with on that Patriots team. So I think they're only gonna get better from here. I just think right now, the Texans with the way the Texans are playing on defense and the the way that they've played all season long has been wow. I just I think the Texans win this game. It's gonna be it's gonna be a dog fight. This will be a dog fight. It's gonna be really low scoring, but I like the Texans to win that one there. So Kyle has the Seahawks in Denver, and I took the Rams and the Texans. So maybe, just maybe I'll win this week. I don't know. We've tied before, but outside of that, Kyle mops the floor with me every single week in the pick'em. So, Kyle, one last thing before I got to let you go. Yes. Thoughts on the Matt LaFleur situation in Green Bay? I'm asking everybody today on the show, and as you guys know, we're pre-recorded. So every answer that I get on their show here tonight, we don't know. The contract could be signed tomorrow, he could be like, he could be traded tomorrow. We have no idea. So just so you guys know, we are pre-recorded the day ahead. So just so you're aware of Kyle's answer. Kyle, if you're Green Bay, what do you do about Matt LaFleur?

SPEAKER_00:

I think there's a strong argument to keep him and extend him out. He's an offensive-minded head coach. I don't think the offense is the problem. Well, to a certain extent. Like they have problems with like sustained aggression. They'll look really good for one half and then they'll come out, look slow, and then momentum gets away from. That's what happened, I feel like, with Chicago. They they started to kind of press a little bit. I think LaFleur is a good offensive mind. I would probably like to see him maybe dial back some responsibilities, you know, maybe put more of the play calling on the OC. Just be like an offensive supervisor. Like you see them calling some stuff you don't like, interject, but you know, set up the game plan, let your coach handle it. I I think he I think he's a good coach. I just think it's the the way the playoffs have kind of gone for him. I understand why people are calling for his job. I don't know if this is the strongest coaching market if you wanted to do it, unless you have assurances like you could get, I don't know, like a Tomlin or something like that, but I I think you extend him out. I think he's a good coach.

SPEAKER_04:

I'm with you. I'm with you. Well, I'm I'm all over the place with it tonight. Everybody says something, I'm all over the place. I agree, there has to be changes, right? There has to be changes. If you're gonna have him stick around, there has to be changes, and that's exactly what you're saying right there. Is that if you are gonna have him stick around, there has to be major changes made in Green Bay. So, Kyle, thank you as always for stopping by tonight here on the show. Let the people know where to find you out there across social media.

SPEAKER_00:

So you can uh search Chomping at the Bit on YouTube, Facebook, or Podbean. Links to socials will be there, and you'll find me everywhere else. It's the easiest way to find me.

We're gonna talk a little bucks, we're gonna talk that same question, we're gonna talk a little packers with those guys there. So we're gonna get into that when we come back from the break. Wisconsin Sports on the Go with Trade. We'll be right back. Wisconsin Sports on the Go with Trade. I'm your host, Trade, as we're coming back here on this Wednesday. And hey, this next segment, the Wisco Fanatics guys are stopping by. We're gonna talk bucks, we're gonna talk, we're gonna talk a little bit of everything. SPEAKER_02:

We could be doing better, but uh we're still here and uh we're still enjoying the Wisconsin winter. We are enjoying whatever this is of a winter.

SPEAKER_04:

I don't know what it is. There's no snow. Tyler, how are we doing on this Wednesday?

SPEAKER_03:

Not bad. It's you know, obviously we'll we'll talk about the Packers a little bit, but it's uh full steam ahead of the basketball season.

SPEAKER_04:

It is a sad, sad. It's just gonna be a week-long sad. Like, that's just the way that that game went, it's just gonna be week long. We're we're gonna try to muster through it. And hopefully the Badgers can add some excitement to our lives once again there. So, as always, we have to hit our foreman's hardware. Who needs to bring the tools to an upcoming matchup? So, Jake, starting with you. Who needs to bring the tools to an upcoming matchup for Wisconsin sports team?

SPEAKER_02:

I feel like I may be cheating when I pick this, but this is what I wanted to pick when I was thinking about it this morning. The Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team needs to continue bringing a three-point touch. This is the team that we originally thought we were getting in the offseason coming into the year. Uh, they had a big comeback win versus number two, uh, Michigan on Saturday, if uh if anybody didn't see that. Uh, and it all started with, well, one, John Blackwell, but two, the three-point shooting from one mainly Beal Auskiss was able to stretch the floor from the power forward position. But all the starters hit a three-pointer. One guy off the bench did Braden Carrington. No surprise for anybody who's watched his team. Uh, but the three-point touch needs to continue uh with the lighter schedule, I'll say, in January.

SPEAKER_04:

I like that one. I like that. Tyler, what do we got? Who needs to bring the tools to an upcoming matchup?

SPEAKER_03:

So I'm gonna double down on a badger's basketball one, and I'm gonna say a guy who Jake just mentioned, but it's gonna be Greg Dard bringing more minutes for Braden Carrington. If you watch our show regularly, I called last week wondering why Braden Carrington isn't playing like 20 minutes a game. Then he comes in and plays huge minutes against Michigan, and now I want him to play 25 minutes a game. He should be playing way more than he is, arguably in consideration for a start uh spot on the starting lineup. So my tool would be for Greg Guard to bring more minutes for Braden Carrington.

SPEAKER_04:

You know, honestly, a commercial break. We need to discuss what we're gonna do for this one because I was gonna say Greg Guard bringing Brayden Carrington off the bench a little bit more.

SPEAKER_03:

I will flip one of the wings for the Badgers on our Wednesday shows. So I've been on the Braden Carrington train for.

SPEAKER_04:

Oh my goodness. I can't. I it baffles me, honestly. Like we've complained about it too here. I mean, it's just Braden Carrington has done nothing but be a bright light at times for this team, and you just give him no run until there's six minutes to go in the first half, and you're down by 20, and you're like, let's run it. It's like it's a little too late for that one. So I I have to agree, and I have to agree with that one. I would go, I'm gonna go with the Biggs. I'm gonna go with the Biggs. No one went there and Bielowskis looked fantastic against Michigan there, not only on the offensive end, but also on the defensive end. I mean, the defense for Wisconsin against Michigan, I did not expect as many blocked shots as what I saw in that game. They were getting right up there. They were physical, they were gonna have teams. That's the team that I want to see continue to play moving forward here, especially against, like Jake was saying, there's some lesser, you know, I say lesser because these, I mean it's the Big Ten play, right? In Big Ten play, anything can happen. As we saw, Wisconsin went to Ann Arbor and pulled off a big upset there. That was probably actually the best game I have seen in a very long time. Like from both teams. That was back and forth, back and forth. That was a really good game from both teams there. And Wisconsin, they've outlasted them. Free throws kind of got away from late. It could have been a little easier of a finish there if they'd knocked down some free throws, but that's for another time. I would go with the big guys, though. I loved what I saw against Michigan. I want to see the continued play of Bialauskis because he seemed hesitant at times throughout the year. I liked what I saw. He was aggressive. He missed a uh, I think there was like three or four straight in the first half there. He missed, and he like, wow, you're oh boy, here we go again. And then all of a sudden he hit that first one and he started to feel himself. That's the Bialauskis that we expected. That's the one we need to see moving forward. So I'm gonna go with the biggs from Wisconsin. Need to bring the tools here moving forward. So there we go. There's our foreman's hardware. Who needs to bring the tools to an upcoming matchup? So let's jump over to the box. We've had some better performances as of late here. We've had a couple good, we've had a couple bad. So let's start with the good. Let's start with the good here. I mean, what have we seen as of late here in the good sense?

SPEAKER_03:

Jake, go ahead, because I'm gonna bring a statistic when I say mine.

SPEAKER_02:

Ooh. Okay, so outside of the Warriors game, which they gave up 120 points, I do want to say that the Bucks have been playing. They've at least saying that we have you're good. Okay. Um I restart. No, you're good. You just won't. Okay. Um just want to just talk about their defense. Their defense has been much better. They only allowed 101 points to the Lakers. In today's NBA, 101 points is really low. And if you didn't know, 101 is very low. Uh, they won that game on the defensive end, especially in the clutch time. Giannis made a couple plays, but the defense swarming LeBron at the end there uh was really, really key, I thought, and allowed Giannis to you know get back to make those plays. Uh, the Nuggets, the Nuggets just hit some shots, and the Bucks on offense were just kind of sloppy towards the end of that game, but that game was definitely winnable. Uh, but the defense was good enough. You allow 108, that's also low in today's NBA. So uh I thought the defense was much better this week. The effort was much better. There's a few guys, um, I shouldn't name names, Bobby Portis and Gary Trent Jr., that are just kind of they just take out like Storm Thumbs. I'm sorry, man. They just they really do. And they're just two guys that if if I was at the trade deadline and I had an opportunity to move those two, I would because defensively they don't fit, and offensively, they're not giving you enough. They're very inconsistent.

SPEAKER_04:

Your mic just got muffled. Just so everybody knows out there, we're low-class radio people, right? We're low-class radio people, we don't have that high-tech stuff, so it happens. It was just a little technical difficulty, but everything else sounded great there. So, Tyler, what do you got to add on top of what Jake just had for us?

SPEAKER_03:

So, looking at this, is this is a season-long statistic, and Lisa Byington will say it every single night is oh, the difference when Giannis is off the court, the non-Giannis minutes, and it's it's it's getting a little old hearing it over and over and over again, but it is true. So, Eric Name today tweeted with his article um that with Giannis, the Bucks are outscoring their opponents by 10.7 points per 100 possessions, which is about the average for a for a an NDMS play. With him off the floor, the Bucks are getting outscored by 10.8 points per 100 possessions. So uh, you know, you look at a hundred possession game, Bucks are gonna lose by about 0.1 of those per possession. So, with that, to me, and I said this to Jake today, I'm like, the the thing that this makes me see, and it just screams to me that the Bucks need a true number two. And actually, on this segment, we talked about this a couple weeks ago that like I wanted to see now that Giannis was back, who wants to be the number two guy? And sometimes they have one. You know, we've seen Kevin Porter Jr. step up, we've seen Kyle Kuzma step up, we've seen Miles Turner step up, I mean, we've seen Ryan Rollins step up, we've even seen Bobby Portis at times look like he could be a number two. I don't think that's at all a consistent thing to expect from him. Like, if he's your number four scorer, fine. But I uh you can't look at Bobby and be like, all right, you're our number two guy. Like, that's just not realistic. But they need somebody like when Giannis and Chris Middleton were together, you knew who number two was, whether he was having a good day or a bad day. You knew Chris Middleton was the guy who was taking the second most shots. And you know, sometimes other guys would be hot, sometimes Drew Holiday would outperform Chris, whatever the case may be. But the Bucs don't have that right now, they don't have a clear cut. This is our Robin to our Batman. You know, sometimes it's different guys, but I I feel that they need somebody else more trusted and proven that they can go to and get a bucket. So to Jake's point that they don't have disorganized possessions like they did at the end of the Nuggets game, where three guys essentially panicked with like 27 and 5 seconds left to shoot the ball, and all three of them made really, really poor decisions. So they need a number two, is how I feel.

SPEAKER_04:

Right, right. So it's a weird question, but how is it intern? Is there a guy internally that you guys see that could step into that number two role? Or at this point, it's kind of you're just gonna go by committee and then hopefully be able to survive. Like, how how do you how do you I guess weather that storm? How are they gonna weather that storm of missing that number two and having inconsistent nights from somebody who wants to be that two?

SPEAKER_03:

I think John Horst had a good idea going into this season by looking at the Oklahoma City Thunder who had one star and a ton of role players. And obviously, Jalen Williams was good enough to make an all-star team. We saw Chris Middleton make a couple of a few all-star teams alongside Giannis. But the to the point of needing that number two guy, like they have tons of role players, and like I said, they have guys who can step up to be that number two, but they they don't have the clear cut one. So, like, I'm not saying that John Horst made a mistake by trying what he did with this roster, but now they need to make some changes, and I'm at the point where I'm like 90% not wanting to trade Kyle Kuzma. So if you can use you know Bobby Portis, Ajax, Cole Anthony, Gary Trent Jr., you know, to leverage any of those kind of guys and those contracts um to be able to get somebody else, and it's not going to be somebody from the Pelicans, but somebody that Jake and I have really started talking really heavily about lately is Miles Bridges. That's the kind of guy that would do a lot of things for the Bucks: scoring, energy, effort, rebounding, defense, three-point shooting. Um, I mean, he's I wouldn't say he's like a playmaker, but he's he's capable in that area, kind of like how Kyle Kuzma is. Like, wouldn't necessarily call Kyle Kuzma a playmaker, but he can bring the ball up for you. He can make some good passes. Like that kind of that kind of player. Uh Miles Bridges, I think right now might be my number one trading target.

SPEAKER_04:

At this point here, you gotta make a move, is is essentially what we're getting. You gotta make some kind of move to be able to add a spark plug to this roster, be able to advance this roster to find some way to put it all together. Because otherwise, I mean, you're gonna continue. I am I wrong to say you're gonna continue to see the inconsistency of this team if you don't find, like you said, the Robin to that Batman. So, I mean, that's yeah, that's kind of where we're at right now with this Bucks team.

SPEAKER_03:

I agree with that.

SPEAKER_04:

Finding that guy. We they have to find that guy to be that not just a role player, but somebody who can step up in those times of need. So moving forward, I mean, the Bucs, who do they got coming up next year? I mean, who who else? Who's on the docket here coming up?

SPEAKER_03:

San Antonio and Atlanta.

unknown:

Yep.

SPEAKER_04:

San Antonio will be tough. That'll be a tough matchup there. But Atlanta, that's a winnable ballgame right there. So, I mean, he played competitive against the Spurs and hopefully find a way to beat the Hawks there. So, I mean, definitely, plus the Hawks, Trey Young gets moved, right? Trey Young gets moved out. I'm are you guys happy? Because I saw the rumors that he was talked about with the Bucs. Like they there was like, oh, should you know the Bucs make a move for Trey? Are you happy that the Bucs didn't make that move for Trey Young?

SPEAKER_03:

Like Damian Millard worse.

SPEAKER_02:

Uh I am elated. He he fixed no problems on the Bucs except one thing. And I was just talking uh about this last week, actually. We just got out of our basketball game and then we saw and saw the news a minute ago that Trey Young got traded. I was like, well, would you look at that? That's pretty crazy. Um he doesn't fix rebounding, he doesn't fix defense. Uh, the only thing that he would fix is getting to the free throw line more. That's literally the only thing that he would have fixed on this Bucks roster. And I was like, please don't fall for this, please. And I saw Ryan Rollins' name floating around, and obviously last week Rollins was playing pretty good, so I was like, good lord, don't do that. He's 23 years old. And then all of a sudden, the last couple games, Ryan Rollins' decision making has been, I would say, pretty bad. I wouldn't say it was very good. He's not shooting well and he's not making good passing decisions either. Um, so then I was like, oh my God, dude, of course. I'm like fighting for this guy to not get traded. And then he starts playing like this. What the heck is going on? This guy's as inconsistent as the team, dude. What is going on, dude? So I'm happy they didn't trade for Trey Young. Thank God. They need to get a wing. Do not, you don't need a guard. We have enough guards. Go get a wing.

SPEAKER_04:

Right.

SPEAKER_02:

Please.

SPEAKER_04:

Right. No, when I saw the alert come across my phone, I really hesitated to look because I was like, is it gonna say bucks? Is it gonna say bucks? Because I've never been Trey Young, I thought, had a good college career, but he was never great. He was very hyped up coming into the league because look at this guy, you can shoot. Well, everybody can shoot.

SPEAKER_03:

What else can you do for me? I can't stand his playstyle. He went to the James Harden school of Placa, you get the call. So even to Jake's point that yes, he would have helped the Bucks get to the free throw line more, it would have been in the most unethical way possible.

SPEAKER_04:

100%. 100%. So, so that's enough about the sad and everything. Well, I guess we'll go more sad here. I want to get you guys' opinion on something here. There's been a lot of chatter. So we're gonna flip over now to the Packers a little bit here. There's been a lot of chatter. We've talked about it in the show today here, getting everybody's opinion hopping on here. But Matt LaFleur is going into his final season of his contract. Usually that's when, because nobody wants a lame duck coach. Ed policy said it himself. So they're talking about an extension in your guys' eyes. Starting with I'll start with Jake. I'll start with Jake here. Jake, in your eyes, Matt LaFleur, if you're Brian Gudekins, if you're Ed Policy, the meeting, well, the meeting's gonna happen with Ed Policy there. What are you are you bringing them back? Are you not bringing them back? Where are you at with Matt LaFleur?

SPEAKER_02:

I was pretty emotional on Saturday night. And I was I was saying some pretty irrational things. And then I went to bed and I I rethought about things. I came to the conclusion that at the end of the day, I would be okay with whatever they decided. If they decided to get rid of them, I'd be okay. If they decided to keep them, I'd be okay. If I was the one making the decision, I would bring them back. What is the point? And everybody's mad about the all the blown leads, which understandable. I'm pretty upset about it myself. I don't enjoy sitting there for three hours and then we puke all over ourselves. That's not fun to watch.

SPEAKER_04:

Right.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, but what is the point of getting rid of a coach that blows leads for another coach that literally set an NFL record for blowing leads? Well, everybody wants Harbaugh, but what's the point of that? That seems like a lateral move at best.

SPEAKER_04:

Yep.

SPEAKER_02:

And then you have to get a whole new voice in there just for the sake of getting a whole new voice in there. You know who does that? Bad football teams. No, I'll take the continuity. All the players are talking about how they want the floor back. I'm just gonna ride with the locker room. I'll bring it back.

SPEAKER_04:

Alright. All right, Tyler, your thoughts.

SPEAKER_03:

Look at a bunch of the Packers' losses, and you can point directly towards special teams causing a lot of those issues. Uh, it's not so bad to the point where it was like the I don't even remember what season the Chargers had the number one offense, the number one defense, but didn't make the playoffs because of their special teams. Like it wasn't that bad, but it was pretty bad. And the fact that it came back so harshly in a playoff game, that's that's the thing you need to make the decision on. Yeah. So as far as the coaching staff goes, you need a new special team start. And I like Pisatya coming in because he was, you know, an interim head coach with the Raiders. He was liked by his players. I'm like, okay, cool. Like that's that's a good fit. And it just hasn't worked out. So I think you need a fresh set of eyes on that room as far as special teams goes, because you can't have it fight you in a playoff. You just can't. And then I I think we've we've had this conversation as well that you need a different offensive coordinator. If you can somehow convince Denovich that he should go back to coach in the offensive line, because that's why he was promoted to the offensive coordinator position in the first place, was because he was so good of an offensive line coach that you couldn't lose him, so you promoted him. But now we need somebody else in the room with Matt LaFleur to be like, hey, I don't think you should do that, and have somebody who's willing to challenge Matt LaFleur on it. So the the other name that's floated around is the Pensal Offensive Coordinators, a guy like Mike McDaniel, who has worked with the floor from a similar coaching tree, who would have no problem being like, hey, Matt, that's a stupid decision. We should do this. Just to have an extra mind in the room, because I agree with Jake. If you're looking at, okay, we're not gonna let him coach 2026 and finish the contract, it's either extend or fire. I would I would choose to extend him because like the offense hasn't been the problem very much. There's a couple games like Philadelphia and Carolina, where it's like, okay, the offense is bad. But special teams was a far bigger issue. Defense at times was an issue, and obviously losing Micah Parsons really hurt that. And I don't think it's fair, and you know, call it what you want, but I don't think it's fair that Matt LaFleur gets Micah Parsons, loses Micah Parsons, and then gets fired for not having Micah Parsons or you know, the other guys that they lost to injured.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

So I would lean towards extending LaFleur, getting an OC, getting a new special teams coach, and one guy that I'll throw out there for offensive coordinator, he did a really great job this season in his new position with the Packers, and the name that I have not seen anybody throw out as a possibility. But what would you guys think of maybe promoting Sean Mannion from quarterback coach offensive coordinate?

SPEAKER_04:

Hmm. It'd be an interesting move. It would definitely be an interesting. It's a at this point, it can't, I don't think it could get worse. I don't think it could get worse. So it's worth a shot. It's definitely I I agree with both of you. I agree with both of you on your points there. I think, honestly, and I've said it a million times on the show today, but I I think honestly, end of the day, it's whether LaFleur will make those changes, if he will make that change at special teams, because he kind of said, Well, special teams aren't really hurting us, so we don't put this big emphasis on it. Well, they hurt you, they hurt you consistently. So maybe we need to put more of an emphasis on it. There, it's those things, the changes that he needs to make with personnel, the changes that he needs to make with himself. I mean, we've talked about a million times his aggressiveness. It's there sometimes, and then all of a sudden it's gone. I mean, it it's it's those little changes that you want to see Matt LaFleur making himself because you can't just run this back. Like I know everyone's, oh, you were this close. You were just missing guys. We should just run it back. Yeah, it, you know, if you had Parsons, you had Kraft, you had all them guys, yeah, it looks a lot better at the end of the day. But I still feel like there's still those weaknesses, there's still those glaring things that we're looking at at the end of the day. We're even adding back all those pieces, which is really good because that's a heck of an offseason right there. Adding Devontae Wyatt, Parsons, Kraft, everybody else back. Like that's huge. But if you don't fix the special teams, if you don't have a better kick return game, anything like that, where it just you can do something. Josh Jacobs had one of the best returns and he he almost fumbled. He almost lost the football for you. I mean, and Josh Jacobs went back to the return kicks. That's how bad it got. That's to the point where you need to address special teams. You need to put more of an emphasis on it, you need to figure that out. So, yeah, I'm at the point where if you bring him back, he needs to make those changes at the end of the day.

SPEAKER_03:

I think if you bring him back, you need to not allow him to be in the room for making those changes. That policy and glutathione need to make those fires. Yes. Here's what I think. Here's what I think.

SPEAKER_02:

I think that policy is going to light a fire under, I don't know if I can say this word, his butt, I'll say. Hey, he's gonna light a fire under his butt, and he's gonna be like, listen, you need to start running this place with a little bit more of an iron fist. You allow guys to make decisions like I'm a I'm a cornerback one, I don't need to be returning kicks. That's not how this works around here, buddy. There's only one person here that wears this hat that's the captain. I'm driving the ship, I make the calls now. Yep. That when I saw that, that was when I was like, oh yeah, this is definitely a Mat LaFleur coach team because he's too damned soft to tell his players what to do. Yeah. So that's the first thing that needs to change. He needs to get a little bit more old school and tell his players what to do. How do you allow Brandon McManus to have a hurt quad when you have a kicker who's kicking the way we had the substitute teacher in there? That was a that was a vibe. That was a great time. And then you you just let McManus come back and be horrible the rest of the year. Okay, you need to step in there, Matt. This is the same thing that people were talking about with Big Mike at the end of the day. Oh, his defensive throw is bad. He's the head coach, he is in charge, he's the one that needs to make the final call. And the special teams is bad. We've been bad. I swear to god, I was born in the special teams bad.

unknown:

Right?

SPEAKER_02:

We've been quarterback my whole life, but the special teams was bad.

SPEAKER_04:

It's been a really long time since the special teams had.

SPEAKER_02:

So Matt needs to start running the place like he's actually in charge and making final decisions and not letting his players tell the media, yeah, this is what's happening. No, no, no, no. Matt, you need to start telling the truth. You need to start telling people what to do, and you need to start being in charge. That's the only thing that I think policy was trying to do by saying we don't want a lame duck coach. That's what I think he meant.

SPEAKER_03:

I think also calling out guys who aren't giving the effort because that's one of the guys that people are calling to be cut. Did a lot of jogging during plays that were live.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, you can't tell me that you need to go back and look at the film all the time. Like you could see this in live time, you can see it in live time. And and that's the thing where, you know, McManus situation, all that is, oh, well, we paid this guy all this money. We got to give him his roster spot back. He's got to get back out there and do something. You know, that's we paid him to do this. No, no, at the end of the day, put your best guy out there. I don't care if Rashawn Gary is this, put your best guy out there. I don't care if McManus has done this for you. Put your best guy out there who's healthy, put him back out there. That those decisions, those things like that, and like Jake, Jake, 100% agree with you there. Matt LaFor needs to be, and that's what I'm saying. He needs to walk in and be the guy. He needs to walk in and say, This is my team. We're gonna run it my way. End of the day, this is how it is. We can only blame coordinators for so long. At the end of the day, at some point, personnel comes down to the head coach. It's his job to make those decisions. So I gotta run here, fellas. Holy crap, we went long today. I gotta run here. Let the people know where to find you guys out there across social media.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, Let's go Fanatics, eight o'clock on Tuesday nights. That's when we do our Green Bay Packers shows. Obviously, that's gonna be a little bit more scarce until uh draft season wraps up or ramps up in March and April. Other than that, Wednesdays at four o'clock, we do uh Badgers, fastball, and football, the Bucks and the Brewers coverage, uh, all on Facebook, YouTube, and you can watch them on X, but Facebook and YouTube is uh the bigger places where we're live, and you'll see us there. And then you can follow us on all the socials for for more day-to-day type stuff. So that's where you can uh tune in.

SPEAKER_04:

Make sure you guys check them out. Fantastic breakdowns of all this. They'll definitely be talking about this game and the badger game, everything in between.
