Welcome Back And Baseball Is Here
SPEAKER_00Welcome back into Wisconsin Sports on the Go with Tranage. I'm your host, Tranage, as we're coming back in here for hour number two of the show here today. Hope you guys are enjoying your Wednesday so far here. And hey, in this next segment, Kyle stopped by. We're gonna talk a little American League Baseball here. This next segment is brought to you by JBC Screen Printing and Embroidery. They take pride in their work because your image is their business. Check them out there at JBC Screen Printing and Embroidery. So, Kyle is here tonight. Kyle, how are we doing on this Wednesday?
SPEAKER_02Oh, I'm good. Uh baseball season is getting ready to get going. Ready for the 162-game grind. So uh I definitely can't complain.
Germany Sports Trivia Challenge
SPEAKER_00It's like you get you get started into the baseball season and you're just kind of right away, you're like making it a point to watch it. And then afterwards it just becomes like a ritual that you just go home and you just turn on the brewers or whatever. You just turn them on, you sit there and you watch. You kind of take it for granted because when winter rolls around, you don't know what to do with yourself. You usually have like something to watch every single day, and now it's like, oh, the badges are on on Sunday, but they don't play again until Friday. What am I gonna do for the rest of the week? Like, I don't got nothing to do. So baseball's great. That's all we need to know. Baseball's great right there. But Kyle, we have to do our favorite thing, and that is the mellow yellow minute, the trivia portion of the show in honor of my grandpa. He loved trivia, he loved mellow yellow. We call it the mellow yellow minute. So we have been traveling the world here, going to different countries, doing our top five sports in different countries. Today, Kyle chose Germany. We're traveling to Germany here for our top five sports in Germany. So, in no particular order, I'm gonna list them off to Kyle, the top five. And he's going to try to list them back to me five to one in order. So we have ice hockey, we have handball, we have soccer, we have tennis, and we have basketball. So, Kyle, one minute on the clock. What do you got for me? Five to one, what is the fifth most popular sport in Germany?
SPEAKER_03So I guess five, I will go with tennis.
SPEAKER_00It is tennis. Tennis comes in at number five. There we go. There we go.
SPEAKER_03All right. Four, I will go. Let's go handball.
SPEAKER_00Not handball. Basketball. Basketball comes in at number four. Basketball comes in at number four.
SPEAKER_03Handball has to be three then.
SPEAKER_00Handball is not number three.
SPEAKER_03Okay, handball is way more popular. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Let's go soccer at three.
SPEAKER_00It is not soccer.
SPEAKER_02Really? Ice hockey.
SPEAKER_00Ice hockey comes in at number three on our list. So we have soccer and handball left on the board, Kyle. What do you got? Two and one.
SPEAKER_02So I'll go handball two, soccer one.
AL East Looks Like A Brawl
SPEAKER_00There we go. There we go. I don't have a ding ding-ding button. Otherwise, I'd wring it off here. We got in number one. Soccer comes in at number one on the list, handball at number two, ice hockey at number three, basketball at four, tennis at five. Other highly popular sports include motorsports, formula one, winter sports, ski jumping, and biathlon, and also cycling because some people like to ride bikes. I'm not a big bike guy, but some people like riding bikes out there. So I guess this is this is where we're at. This is where we're at. I don't know. Must be the price of gas right now is turning people to cycling. There we go. There we go. So Kyle, let's look over into some American League baseball here. We have Kyle jumping on right now. We're gonna talk American League. And then Aaron's gonna jump on next. We're gonna talk National League. So, Kyle, let's start American League baseball right now. Let's start in the AL East. This is where Kyle loves because he's got his Boston Red Sox out there, but he doesn't love looking at the Pakota standings right now. Because Boston is not getting any love in there at this very moment. They have the New York Yankees coming in at the first spot at 88 wins projected on the season. Toronto at 88. Then we see Baltimore coming in at 83. We see Boston at 82, and then the Tampa Bay Rays at 83. If this were all works out, that's an impressive division. Like all in the 80s. Like that is impressive. Now, when you look over at the central, you see why, because they're just apparently beating up on the central when you look at those projections over there. But Kyle, I mean, looking at the ALEs, looking at what Pakota at least has to say, are you in agreement? Do you see this as a, I don't know, you can almost say a five-team race? Like goodness, do you see this division being that open right now for anyone to take it?
SPEAKER_02I actually do. I mean, I think I think the Rays would probably be my bet to finish fifth, but I think that they are a team that's going to make it very difficult on the other four. You know, they get junior Camanero who's coming into his own. So I I definitely think they're going to be an interesting team to watch. Their pitching is a little uh like McClanahan is back, but he hasn't pitched in like two years. And then they're rolling out Steven Matts in their rotation, so we'll have to see what that looks like. But I think the top four could finish probably in any way. Um obviously the Blue Jays the should be the favorites. They're coming off of a really good year last year last season. Now they kind of have to deal with the being the hunted because now everybody knows how good they can be. You have Vlad Guerrero, who I think will have a really good season. The Red Sox are I think there's a lot uh up in the air with them because the rotation looks pretty good, but that's also banking on like Sonny Gray and Connolly Early, who's gonna start in the rotation. You know, you gotta see those guys come in and perform. And I think the lineup could be really good. Obviously, Roman Anthony's gonna get a lot of attention. You know, the Yankees are the Yankees. You got Aaron Judge, so I I look I'm not mad at Pakota. I probably would pick it a little differently. Like I have Toronto winning it, I actually have the Red Sox coming second, and I have the Yankees third with the Orioles a very close fourth.
AL Central Royals Versus Tigers Debate
SPEAKER_00It looks like just looking at outside looking in, right? Just seeing it projection-wise, seeing the lineup, seeing everything in there. It looks like, like you said, that it could be a five-team. Like this is gonna be a tight division, like for a while. Maybe one team's gonna slowly start to separate a little bit, but all in all, this looks like it's going to be a really tough division to come out of right there. And you know, I mean, Toronto, they got to deal with how do you the the Bobachetless, right? They're losing Bobachette now. So how do you recover from that? Because he was an instrumental piece to the run that they made and getting them to that point right there. So how do you how do you recover from that having that kind of influence in there and bringing in a new guy to replace that? All those big question marks that go into it. And then looking over at the rotation, they got decent guys in their rotation. But it's always it always seems like with Toronto, it's the divid it's the it's the pitching staff that always is gonna be the difference maker. If they have good pitching versus bad pitching, they always seem to have a decent offense, but it always fluctuates off of what the pitching staff's doing for them. And I think that's gonna be the same with the Yankees right there. I think Boston, underrated side or underrating trade of the uh offseason there, getting Caleb Durbin. I don't know. I think that's that's gonna be the take him over the top piece. I'm just saying. I'm just saying everybody hates it, but I'm just saying Caleb Durbin's gonna be that guy for him out there. He's got that green monster now. So it's little, he's little, Kyle. So it's gonna be it's gonna be like a little league world series out there for you, watching him hit out over top of the green monster. But the strike zone is gonna be tiny, so he's gonna draw you a lot of walks. That's all you need to know. He's got a small strike zone on top of that there. It does. See, it does. I think it was a good, I honestly think it was a good pickup for the for the Boston Red Sox. I really do. He's a reliable guy. I think it's a good pickup for him there. I I love that division. I'm gonna be honest with you. I think that's gonna be one to keep your eyes on all season long because like you like we're saying. I mean, I think it's gonna move all year long. But let's flip over AL Central Kyle. This one, I don't know if I like Kansas City that much, but I'm gonna read off the standings here. I just read the first one, I guess, but I'm gonna read off the standings here and I'm gonna tell you. But I don't think I don't see this being this way. Kansas City at 84 wins, Detroit at 84 wins, Minnesota 78, Cleveland 74, and Chicago, the White Sox coming in at 69. That's gotta be an uptick, right? Over what we've seen in years past with Chicago being up there in the 69 range. They've made some moves here in this offseason that have made them a little bit better there. So maybe we see uh new and improved White Sox that aren't completely bottom dwellers of everything. But just looking at this, Kyle, I don't know if I like Kansas City at one. I don't know if I like them. I really think the Tigers are gonna pull away with this division and probably win it by 10 games. But maybe that's just me. So, Kyle, I mean, just hearing that Kansas City, Detroit, Minnesota, Cleveland, Chicago. What are your thoughts on what Pagoda has for those projected standings right now?
SPEAKER_02I mean, like you said, the White Sox, they did get Murakami in the offseason. It'll be interesting to see how you know he coming over, how he can adjust to uh MLB pitching. But I think they're a young team, they're obviously rebuilding and trying to get their core and everything down. So I do think the White Sox will be uh an interesting team in this division. I do think the Royals probably win the division, but if you're gonna tell me the Tigers win it and the Royals come in second, I can see that as well. I think the thing with the Tigers will be their bullpen because they have like Kenley Jansen at the back end, they have uh what will vest as the setup. I think getting from starters to them will be uh what probably makes or or break their season, and that's not to say the royals don't have issues as well. Like they have uh Cole Reagan's as their ace, but they're depending on Waka and Lugo in your two three spots, and you know they're they're older now, they're what mid-30s, so you never know if they'll be able to hold up. But I do like the top three for the Royals where you're looking at Wit, Pasquantino, and um who's their leadoff hitter. I just had his name, but I think Pasquantino is gonna be uh a key for them. He'll be hitting behind Wit. You know, he he'll have obviously RBI opportunities, and if he if he could have a big season, I think they could be pretty good this year.
AL West Mariners Lead The Pack
SPEAKER_00That's where I was looking at the Royals is when I look at that rotation, that's what scares me the most. That's why I think the Tigers could overtake and I think walk away with it a little bit, is just because that rotation. I like Reagans. I'm not saying I don't like Reagans at the top, but after like you said, Michael Waka, and then you have Seth Lugo after that. I just I don't know if I like that. I I don't know if I like that middle of that rotation that they have there, and then getting into the bullpen, it's still pitching's gonna be the question with the Royals. Pitching's gonna be the question with the Royals. I don't, I'm not a huge fan of Kenley Jansen at the back end of a bullpen anymore because I don't Kenley Jansen's hitting the end of his career at this very moment. So I don't know if I like that for the Tigers as much either. So I think this is gonna be one of those divisions, too, where I think it's gonna be a two-team race there. I think it's gonna be Detroit and Kansas City. I just I got more, I have more faith in Detroit's uh starting rotation and back end, I guess, even though I don't like the Kenley Jansen. I like their back end a little bit more than what I like the Royals getting to that because I just uh maybe the Royals surprise me. Maybe they do. I don't know. But right now, that's just kind of where I'm sitting with that whole thing. AL West Kyle. Yeah, this one's always uh a spectacle to watch because you never know what's gonna happen out there. Seattle, right now, they have them projected for 94 wins, sitting there at the top of the AL West. Houston at set in second at 84, Texas, 84, and then you see Sacramento, which still looks baffling to me to look at, but the A's coming in at 76, and then the Angels, of course, coming in 65 wins projected right now. Kyle, what do you think about this one? What do you think about this division right now? I I think the top is right. I think Seattle's most likely gonna run away with this thing. I don't know if they run. Do you think they run away with it by 10 games?
SPEAKER_02I think it's possible. Uh, I think we're at a point where we're almost waiting for that year when the Astros like really slip and you know you know fall off on like a playoff team or something like that. Maybe this is the year. I don't know, but I do think the Mariners are the favorite. You know, we're gonna see what Cal Raleigh can do after his big season last year. Obviously, don't expect him to hit like 40, 50 home runs this year, but I think he should still have a solid season. I think the intriguing team in the division are the A's, though. Like they have Nick Kurtz, you got uh Brent Rooker, you know, Kurtz can take another step. I think their pitching rotations kind of young. Like they're a team that I think could surprise and maybe finish like third in the in the division, which I think would be a big step for them. Uh the Rangers, you know, you have Wyatt Langford. I do have some questions about the rest of their lineup, but I think they're gonna be in that conversation with like the A's to finish third. I think the Angels. The Angels are the Angels right now. Like they have Zach Neto, which is great. They still have Mike Trout, you know, he's obviously older now, but yeah, they're just not ready to really compete for anything. So I do think the Mariners are the class of the division, and I think the Angels are probably the worst in the division. Those are probably the two easiest things to predict. Uh, two, three, and four. I could see like any combination of those three teams.
Dark Horses And Brewers Reality Check
SPEAKER_00The Astros are always the wild card, right? They're always the wild card of if this team hits their stride, they have some good pieces, they can find a way to win this division. They always seem to be that pesky team right there in the middle. The Rangers are always consistent, it seems like. The Rangers are always just there. They can win some games, they can stick around for a little bit, they just can't put it all together. It's like the Reds. Like, they feel like the Reds for me of the National League. Like, you know, you look at the Rangers, they're always consistent. They look like they could potentially put on a run, and then somebody gets hurt and it just all goes downhill fast, or the pitching staff doesn't work out, whatever it is, you know. So I just look at that team and I'm like, uh, they seem solid in a third. They're not gonna be the worst, they're not gonna be the best, they're gonna sit in that third range right there. I completely agree with that. So, dark horse teams, Kyle. I want to hear it from you right now, projection-wise. You can look NL, you can look AL. Give me some dark horse teams this season to watch for. Like this team, I'd be scared. They're not being talked about enough. They're gonna be a scary team come October. Expect to see this team in that playoff race and to see them in there. What do you think, Kyle?
SPEAKER_02Dark horse teams. You're on record.
SPEAKER_00Just remember that. You're on record right now. This is gonna be your dark horse projection.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I mean, I don't know if the Orioles really counted a dark horse team, but they did add Pete Alonzo. You know, that that lineup, you still have Gunnar Henderson and guys like that. I think the Orioles was a couple of years ago. They they had their time when they had a really good season, kind of fell back last year. I think they could be in for a little bit of a bump this year. Biggest thing's gonna be Helsley in the closer role. Because Bautista, I believe, is still coming back from like shoulder surgery, I believe. And Helsley was good two years ago, but last year was a little iffy for him. So if he can regain his form from two years ago, Orioles could be that team that might surprise in the ALE's. I mean, outside of that, maybe Cleveland. You know, Jose Ramirez is obviously another year older, but he just is just producing year in and year out. Uh Steven Kwan is a guy absolutely love. He kind of took a step back last year, and if you look at his numbers recently, it's almost like every other year he's a 300 hitter. So, based on that trend, he should be a 300 hitter this year, which would obviously set the table for Jose Ramirez a little bit more. So those will probably be the two teams for me. And like I said, the A's. I don't know if I would put a lot on them this year, but I think they'll be fun to watch at least.
SPEAKER_00I like that. I like that. You know, Cleveland, Cleveland's always a scrappy team. The the Brewers of the AL, right? They find a way to win games. Well, I don't know. I'd say the Rays are the Brewers of the AL. I can't say that's the Guardians there, but the Guardians definitely find ways to win games in unorthodox ways and make things happen. So I don't hate their rotation either. With Bebe still in there, and then they have, I think Logan Allen's still in there, so they have a decent enough rotation too. So we'll kind of see what happens there.
SPEAKER_04Hmm.
SPEAKER_00Dark horses for me. I don't think there's any uh I look at the NL West. I think Arizona is gonna be better than what they say. I think Arizona is gonna be a little bit better. They haven't projected for 79 wins right now. I could see Arizona kind of being a little bit better than that right there. Outside of that, not really anything off the projections that I'm seeing right now. I think, well, the Brewers, I guess. I could say the Brewers could be a uh Dark Horse team because nobody thinks the Brewers are gonna be good again. So I can say the Brewers would be a dark horse team, but I'm gonna get your take, Kyle. Do you think the Brewers will be a dark horse team this year? Right now they haven't projected for 81 wins. They don't think the brewer, they don't think much of the Brewers right now. Do you feel like the Brewers, what are your thoughts on them? You think they're gonna be better or worse than what we saw last season?
SPEAKER_02I mean, it kind of seems like like the recent years, the kind of hype that the Brewers had, people are like pushing it somewhat towards Pittsburgh. I'm hearing like a lot of people are like on Pittsburgh this year. I would kind of say hold on a little bit to that because I actually think the Brewers are still a pretty good team. Like, yeah, they don't have uh Peralta or whatever, but what the Brewers have shown, and you know, they got Harrison from the Red Sox. The Brewers are the type of organization that'll make Harrison look like a legit starter, and he's what their number four pitcher, so there's not a lot of uh pressure on him, and I do think he has the stuff to be a good starter, so I wouldn't be surprised, like I said, if he's like a double-digit win guy in Milwaukee. That's just what they seem to do with young arms. So I think they are a team that could sneak up on people, as crazy as that sounds based off the last couple of years.
SPEAKER_00But every year. Every year it seems like they just want to get down on the brewers. But they hey, I like that, Kyle. I like that. Kyle's got the confidence, we've got the confidence. That's all we need right there. So, Kyle, thank you as always for stopping by tonight. Let people know where to find you out there across social media.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so if you go Facebook, YouTube, Podbean, shopping at the bit, easiest way to find me.
Aaron Joins For National League Talk
SPEAKER_00Make sure you guys check him out. He's got fantastic stuff there across the across Podbean, across social media. Make sure you guys check him out. He's got great stuff. I was on with with him the other night there. We had a great talk over there. We're gonna have more like that across this network there. So make sure you guys check him out there. Jumping at the bit. So when we come back, Aaron's gonna stop by. We're gonna talk the National League side of this, talk about the projections over there and what we're kind of seeing out of that. We'll be right back here. How much doing it with Trage? I'm your host, Trage, as we're coming back in here on this Wednesday. And hey, this next segment of the show here, a good friend of the show, Aaron, is stopping by. We're gonna talk a little bit a little bit about some NL baseball, get over to the National League side of things. This next segment is brought to you by Badger Tree Care. Do you got a tree that's become a problem? You know, you just had that two feet of snow, and maybe this tree just appeared in your backyard. You're like, where did this thing even come from? I don't know, right? The snow plow maybe pushed one in. Who knows, right? Crazy stuff happens. You need to get that thing taken care of. Call our friend Trevor Barth at Badger Tree Care. He'll come in there, he'll get rid of that thing for you. It'll look your yard will look fantastic. That's what he does. He does great work, full cleanup, everything like that. Check him out there, Badger Tree Care, Trevor Barth. So, Aaron is here tonight. Aaron, how are we doing on this Wednesday?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, it's man, it's an honor to be back on the uh on the show here. It's fun, always a good time with you. You bring you bring all the juice, you know. So uh yeah, I'm I'm excited to talk some baseball. We're finally uh I don't know about you, Trades, but it it is felt like a like I know time flies, but it still felt like a long January, February, and now you know, as we approach You know, the end of March, but just I'm ready for it to start. I am ready for the baseball season to to get going and and kind of get some spring weather going as well.
NL East Phillies Braves Mets Questions
SPEAKER_00You know what does it? It's when your NFL team stinks and they get knocked out of the playoffs early, and your uh March Madness team, your badgers get knocked out early, and you just have to have these long periods of waiting for another thing to start to feel good about yourself. It's the constant cycle of Wisconsin sports. I mean, Aaron knows this. It's a constant cycle where they get your hopes up, you're feeling really good, you think they can make that run, and then bam, it's done. Like that's just how it goes every time. That's just how it goes every time. I mean, it's it's disastrous every time there. I got tea tonight, Aaron, though. I'm not bringing juice. I'm bringing my Arnold Palmer half and half iced tea lemonade thing. I don't know. There's a variety pack at the target. So my wife got it for me. It's fantastic. It's great stuff there. Gets me all jacked up, talk about some National League, National League talk here. I can't wait to talk about this here. We have our Pakota standings. I know everybody goes off for different sites. We're gonna go off Pakota because that's the one I came up first when I searched it up there. So let's start in the NL East. Right now, the Braves are projected to have 89 wins on the season. The New York Mets are in at 89. The Phil, the Phillies are coming in at 85, Miami Marlins at 75, and Washington in there at 65. That, I mean, if that stacks up the way that they have it projected at, that's a pretty good division right there. I mean, you're probably gonna be talking about the division winner getting into the playoffs. And then also, I mean, you're gonna probably have at least one of the wild cards, right? If not two wild card teams coming out of that division. So, I mean, Aaron, just kind of looking at the NL East right now, this is where you are because you, I mean, he's a big Philadelphia Philly fan. He's out in Philly there, so he's a big Phillies fan out there. But I mean, looking at this division right now, is that kind of where you see it shaken out? Or, you know, is that a three? Is there a three-team race out there in the NL East right now?
SPEAKER_01It's I'll tell you this, Trage. Like it is tough to say. I mean, um, your guy, what is it, David Stearns, right? He was with the Brewers there for a while. Yeah, um, jumps over to the Mets, the Metropolitans, and uh, I I mean, he, you know, at first he didn't really do too much, he didn't rock the boat. I think um, I think their ownership finally let him have you know keys to the team. And I mean, he unloaded he let Pete Alonzo go to Baltimore. He he actually shot Blindor for a while, which I was like, wow, I mean, they're really trying to shake things up, but they they bring in some guys. Uh, they bring in Bo Bouchette. Obviously, he's gonna play third and he might make 300 errors this year. I don't know how that's gonna work because I've already seen him you know kicking the ball around. Uh, they bring in like an aging uh Marcus Semyon. Uh I don't I I don't know about like Luis Robert comes over from the White Sox, who I mean he puts up good numbers, but I it's a lot of new pieces. I'll say that, which I guess for the Mets you had to do something. Uh last season was abysmal. The Braves, I I so the Mets are a question mark to me. I'm not uh I'm just 50-50 on them. I don't know. I don't fully trust their uh rotation either. That that's kind of where I'm like, uh, I don't I just I don't love their rotation on paper. But uh and then Devin Williams, uh your you know former brewer there comes over from the Yankees to you know cross town to the Mets. I he was shaky last year to say the least. So I I just they lose. Um oh man, they lose, I forget the guy's name to the to the Dodgers, but they're close, they're longtime closer. Oh Edwin Diaz. Edwin Diaz, yeah, the trumpet guy. So uh yeah, I I the Mets are a big question mark. I'll put it that way. Braves are, I mean, same type of thing. I I mean I know they the Braves don't really fall off for too long, they're a pretty consistent franchise, but you know, obviously getting a kuna back is is huge. But did they make uh you know earth shattering moves? Not really. I mean, even their their you know, rotation's about the same. Strider, not the best year last year. I I and I'm not trying to be a homer. I just I don't know if and I don't even love the Phillies roster. I really don't, but I don't know if either of those two teams are better than the Phillies right now. I mean, they're are they close? Yeah, I think all those teams, like you to your question, all those three teams can compete for the division. I'm not sure where they're getting um and I'll pull it back up here. Like I guess four games. They could they could say those teams are four games better than the or five games, sorry, than the Phillies. I mean sure, I guess so. Uh, I think they're basing, you know, we don't know what Zach Wheeler's gonna come back like fully from that uh that blood, I think in a blood clot or something like that. I can't remember, but last season, and he put him out of the whole postseason. So um I like I love Duran coming out of the Phillies bullpen. Like that was a huge signing from or trade from the twins. So I think the Phillies have the best like closer in the division. Whether that matters a whole lot, I don't I don't know yet. But yeah, I I probably would still put the Phillies like two or three games above I want to say Atlanta. I I just don't know what the Mets are. I mean they're probably ceiling 90, 93, 92 wins, and then floor, like they could they could be under 500. I I don't know. I really the Mets are just a wild card to me.
SPEAKER_00Right. It's there's a lot of pieces in there that well in David Stearns we trusted for many years in Milwaukee, and now that he has money to spend with the Mets, I don't know. He could just go crazy with it and figure out a way to work. He made it work in Milwaukee with no money. So now with the Mets, if he can make it work with a lot of money, wow, okay. So I mean, yeah, I right right now looking at the NL East, like you said, I mean, it's a three-team race, but maybe it's a little flipped on its head. It's a lot of wild cards in there to see what's kind of gonna happen there with some of these teams if it all works out with the Mets. Now bringing, like you said, Devin Williams, having Freddie Peralta come over. There's a lot of moving pieces. See if it works out there with the Mets. So, yeah, definitely gonna be an interesting division right there to watch. It never, never, never count out the nationals, never count them out. Maybe, just maybe they're gonna have a 2019 season again and just run it back and just roll it. Maybe is Steven Strasberg still in the books, maybe he'll come back from injury. I don't know. I think he medically retired from the game. I don't I don't know if he can ever I was a big Strasbourg guy, though.
SPEAKER_01He he was uh he was special. They've had a lot of talent come through that organization. Like it's crazy if you look at all I mean, Soto wasn't that, you know, trade channel. Like it goes on and on. Like it yeah, Harper.
NL West Dodgers Tower Over Everyone
SPEAKER_00I mean, it's just them, the Marlins, like they've there's been a lot of talent to walk through those doors with those two teams. Look at the Marlins, they had what Marcelo Zuna on that outfield at one point, John Carlos Stanton, and Christian Yelic all in that outfield at one point, and they're all gone and to elsewhere and winning MVPs and doing great things, and the Marlins are here we go, projected for seven. They're projected for 75 wins, though. So it's not bad. It's not terrible, it's not terrible. Let's flip over NL West. This one, this could be an interesting division because I think even the fourth best team in the division could maybe make some noise because they have some good players on that team. So right now they have the Dodgers, of course. They're projected for 103 wins. So I mean, that'd be crazy. See them get 103. Not really crazy because look at the roster they got on that team. San Francisco at 82 wins, San Diego Padres coming in at 81, Arizona at 78, and then Colorado at 60. I think the I think the Padres are low. Just I'm gonna I'm gonna let you speak up. I think the Padres are low. I don't know. They've never been able to figure it out. They keep bringing in all these money guys and they keep throwing money around like it's nothing and they can never make it work. I feel like when I see 81, it just feels low for the Padres as projection. They probably will end up at 81 wins just because they screw up a lot and they don't know how to put it all together, and it's the like the worst thing for them. But they have some really good talent on that roster, so I just feel like 81 might be low for projection, but it might be where they sit. So, Aaron, I mean, NL West, what do you see out there?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I'm in the same boat as you again there. I I just think I do think one of these years maybe the Padres find a I mean the Dodgers can't go on forever, right? Somebody in the NL is gonna, I mean, I would hope, you know, get the Dodgers out of there at some at some point or or another. But yeah, I mean, them bringing out and not that Nick Cassianos is like insane, but he's in a contract year. Um, so I think you'll see a different version of him than you did in in Philly. And I I think he's hungry because the way things ended in Philly. I uh Loriano, I really do like Loriano on that team. Uh obviously Tatis, like the list of Manny Machado, like list goes on and on and on. Um Bogart's has kind of slid down a little bit, but them bringing over like no one even talks about like Ty France, not that he's amazing, but like you know, it's another solid addition. Like they just like you said, they just load up, they could care less about the minor league system, like they just explode the minor leagues, uh, and whatever. Like, I mean, I create I give them some respect for that because they've you know not been a franchise that's won a lot, or I don't know if they've won any World Series, but uh yeah, I I agree with you. I think the Giants, like if you look at them on paper, I I really do like them. It's just once again, do they do they put it all together? I they really haven't since you know what was that, like the 2012, something like that, when they had Lincicum and and all those guys, like when the team was was just ripping off World Series every couple years. But yeah, um, yeah, I mean if if the Dodgers don't win, I'd be shocked. And like you said, maybe the the uh fourth best team makes some noise being being probably the Diamondbacks. That's how they have it projected. Because I mean we all know the Rockies are just Rocky.
NL Central Cubs Pirates Brewers Fight
SPEAKER_00So yeah, well that's the Rockies will forever be. I don't I that ain't ever gonna work. But um, yeah, I mean the Giants are always a question mark, and I think it's gonna start with that rotation for him there because you have Logan Webb up top. He's reliable, he's really good. We saw it, we've seen it for a couple years now with Logan Webb. But after that, Robbie Ray, big question mark with him. I mean, he was at one point you would have said, oh, Robbie Ray's in that rotation is gonna be good. Robbie Ray, question mark for me. Adrian Hauser, question mark for me. He's solid, he's serviceable, but that's about all I'm gonna say there. Tyler Maley's in there, Trevor McDonald has talked about in there. They have a lot of random guys, right? The random guys. And that's where I think the question marks gonna come with the Giants is gonna be big into what the rotation is because when you are in a division with the Dodgers and you have to mess with the Dodgers, you gotta be able to somehow contain, slow down the bats a little bit. You have a lineup with William Thomas and Raphael Devers that can put up some runs in there, but it's a question of can you slow teams down? And I think the starting rotation is the biggest question mark that I have, at least, with the Giants going into this one. And then I mean, looking at San Diego, you got the best closer in the division because I don't think Edwin Diaz is better than Mason Miller. So you have the best closer in the division. And the starting rotation for San Diego, not terrible. I mean, you got Joe Musgrove in there, you got Michael King in there, you have Marquez could be potentially talked about. I don't know. I don't have the the Padres on speed dial to figure out who's actually gonna make this thing. But just looking through the guys that are uh possibility and their pavidas in there, so you have some decent guys in that rotation, but all these teams in this division, it's gonna come down to who has the pitching to be able to compete with the Dodgers because the Dodgers, we know it, they have enough pitching to go on for days, and then on top of that, they have a really good lineup to talk about on top of that. But when you have a rotation of Yamamoto, Snell, Glasnow, Otani, and I mean, if they consider Roki Suzaki in there as a starter, I don't know what they're gonna consider him this year, last year. I think he was there in the bullpen for a while. So whatever they consider him this year, and on top of that, you've still got Gavin Stone and guys like that to talk about. So that that rotation is just ridiculous. But we know for a fact that half those guys will spend the year down in Arizona and magically be healthy when the postseason rolls around. I don't know how it always works, but they're always hurt for a majority of the year and then they come back. So we'll see Tyler Glass now in probably April and then October. So if you really like Tyler Glass now, make sure you check him out in April if you don't want to wait until October. Anyways, enough shots of the Dodgers there. I just I despise this team. I just despise them with a passion. But, anyways, anyways, there you go. There's our NL West little go around there. Let's look at the NL Central where we want to talk about, right? The NL Central, Chicago is figured for 89 wins right now, Pittsburgh at 82, the Brewers come in at 81, Cincinnati at 78, and St. Louis. It is it always baffles me to see St. Louis slowly falling apart. I mean, just talk about a team that used to be the most consistent force. They were always known for, I mean, this team was really good to glove. They were always just really solid defensively for years, and now it's like, man, they just stink. They just can't figure it out, they can't find the pieces anymore, and it's just not working. So, I mean, Aaron, kind of looking at the anal central. What are you seeing here? Chicago in first, according to Pacoda, and then you have Pittsburgh and Milwaukee coming in there in that top three. What do you what are your takes on this division here?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, I know what and we'll kind of guess start with with the pirates just because that's kind of like the you know, exclamation point or question mark, however you want to say it, with with the Pacola uh, you know, estimates here on wins and and where they're gonna stack up. I mean, I know like I know Paul Skeens is on the pirates, right? I know like they added some guys, they added uh Orion O'Hearn, uh, Gregory Soto. Like they have some some guys here and there. Like, I would say they have some decent guys, right? But no, I mean, I forgot they got a Zuna too. Kind of a weird, like just a bunch of randoms thrown together, if you will. But like, I mean, still, I mean, a lot of these positions, uh the guys at these positions, I'm not I don't love. I mean, I just don't think they have enough. I mean, it's I I was not respect, but I tip my cap a little bit because they they even went in pretty hard on Schwarber. I mean, I I think they gave him almost what the Phillies gave him, which I was shocked that they'd even rock the boat like that. Uh, maybe, maybe there is a change of the guard and they're slowly moving into to uh you know an ownership that they're like, okay, we're actually gonna try now, but or a philosophy, I should say. But I I right this second though, I still can't. I we'll see. Maybe they go crazy at the deadline. But based on you know, the before the season starts, I it's hard to say like on paper. I mean, uh there is things to love about the Cubs, but they've kind of been underwhelming in some respects. Or I mean, you give the Brewers credit on having a great year last year, or really the last two years, uh, with the win total, obviously. So I just there's no way I'm putting the pirates above the Brewers. Now, the Cubs, that that one is I think you could debate that, like whether you like the Cubs more. They lose Kyle Tucker, which I mean, I guess not everybody thought that was gonna happen, but of course the Dodgers got to get him too. I mean, it's just why not? Just let just give everybody to the Dodgers at this point. But uh, yeah, I mean, I think the Brewers at 81, though. I I mean, I would make the bet that they're gonna win more than 81. Do they win the division? That's gonna be up to those two teams. I mean, ultimately, obviously, but I think at 81, that's that's kind of I know the Brewers have suffered some uh rotational injuries already. You could probably speak on who exactly, but I mean, as far as I know, Mizerowski, what he'll have a whole season at the big opening day starter. So I I just I know losing Peralta, I know, but they like we always talk about they they find a way, and I just 81 seems low to me for the Brewers. I will say that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I like that. I like that Aaron's got confidence there. I agree. You know, the Cubs, I I don't like the Cubs. We all know that. I'll talk crap about the Cubs any day of the week. They did a I thought getting rid of Kyle Tucker was the smartest thing in the world. He looked like he was checked out last year, halfway through the year. He looked like he just he looked like his dog was gone and it was just sad. Like I don't know. It was just it was a rough year for Kyle Tucker at the plate, and it just did not work out. So now, I mean, looking at what they have now, you brought in Edward Cabrera, you did some good things to the rotation there if you're the Cubs. The bullpen, I still have question marks with their bullpen, and then the starting lineup. I mean, I like the addition of Bregman for him there. Does Bregman get back to what he was when he was in Houston? Who knows? We have to wait and see on that one. There's still a lot of questions. I think the biggest thing with the Brewers, and I'm gonna let you talk about that here, getting our thoughts on the Brewers and getting your thoughts on the Brewers, of course. But you know, with the Brewers is all the question marks, right? Does Garrett Mitchell stay healthy? And if he does, what does it look like? What does a full season of Garrett Mitchell look like? Because we've been waiting for years, so what does that look like? And then Bryce Tarang, looking at how good he's been so far in this early then world baseball classic, spring training, last season there, does that carry over? Do you see a full season where Bryce Tarang is playing like he could be an NVP? Do you see Christian Yelich? He has the leg kickback. Do you see the power come back? Uh William Contreras, no broken finger. Do you see that come back? Like there's all those variables, right, that go into the Brewers. That it's like, if it all comes together, we see a team that won 93 games. We see a team that won 97 games. Like we see that kind of team. If it all falls apart at one time, we can see a team that wins less than 81 games. Because on paper, it doesn't look great. But when we see it on the field, it's completely different. The Brewers throw all what's supposed to be. The Brewers throw the supposed to's to the win. They just say this is how it's gonna be. And that's the way that Pat Murphy manages. That's the way the Brewers play. So I mean, this division, I think, like you said, is gonna be a two-horse race. I think, honestly. I think it's gonna be, I think the Reds are being kind of discounted. I really do. I think the Reds are gonna be better than what they shake what they're shaking them out to be. I think they'll actually finish ahead of the Pirates. I was impressed, like you said, the Pirates did throw as much as they did, but I think they have to because they only got Skeens for so long. So they're gonna have to throw it all, they're gonna have to throw it all out there right now because Skeens is gonna go to the Dodgers, the Yankees, or whoever is gonna throw them the most money. I mean, it's gonna be we thought that the show Tani and all that stuff was crazy times. That's gonna be a crazy time when he becomes a free agent. And hopefully, hopefully, there's a salary cap. Because then we're gonna have a lot of teams in on Paul Schians, which will make it even better. So hopefully there's a salary cap at that time. But Aaron, I want to get your thoughts. Last but not least, here, I want to get your thoughts on the Brewers. Will they will they be about the same as last year? Will they be better? Will they be worse? What are your thoughts on this Brewers team coming into this 2026 championship season? I have to make sure I add that at the end.
SPEAKER_01Uh win total-wise, I think they might take just a tiny bit of a dip. I'm not saying they're gonna go from what trade you said 91. 97.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, see that's franchise record.
SPEAKER_01That's see, my my gut feeling says, I mean, I mean, most teams can't follow up a franchise record and wins by winning more, right? Or even I I would say maybe they're they're I to me they're probably high 80s, like 88. I'll call it like I I still think they're they're dang good. Almost almost let the uh D word slip there. Uh, but they are uh I think they're good. I mean, I don't think I I saw they lost Reese Hoskins. I don't think that's like oh my god, this guy's falling type of type of thing. Um I'm I forget. Let me see. I just pulled it up through their third baseman, is they brought over uh Luis Ren Hifo. Right. I don't necessarily love that, but I just I mean, you still got Contreras there. You still got uh Churio, young player, obviously, Tarang, young player, great. Like these guys are are cornerstone players for the Brewers. So it's not like you lost Contreras. Like I just Reese Hoskins experience. I I think the Brewers, uh, you know, if they look at that as as much as they spend on, you know, because they don't spend a ton of money, obviously, you know that. Um, do they regret the Reese Hoskins deal? I if you ask him, probably behind closed doors, probably just because he didn't he didn't pan out like they they probably thought, but you know, you take a flyer, like you you didn't know because he was coming off that horrific injury with the Phillies, and it was like, okay, well, on paper he looks great, and it was one of those, like, we'll see what happens, and and you know, you take that risk sometimes, but yeah, I I think I only say they drop a little bit because of them trading Peralta. I know they always find a way, but just kind of some of these injuries. I think I think it'll catch up to them to a certain degree. But once they hit their stride, I think the Brewers are one of those teams like I we talked about off-air. It's like if you look at not the Rays maybe last year or last couple, but for the longest time, if you would like watch how the Rays play, they'd be uh teetering around 500, and boom, they just hit this like two to three month stride where they're winning like 65 to 70 percent of their games. They remind me of the modern day brewers. Like that that's just once they're in like full trot of the season. I'm like, I don't really think the brewers are gonna fall off a cliff. If it happens one of these years, would I be shocked? Probably not, but I just until kind of like you say, you know, until proven otherwise, they're they're a pretty consistent commodity right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you know, it's it's one of those things where you're like everybody says it too. It's like on paper, on paper. It's like the brewers take what you have on paper and they kind of crumble it up, throw it in the trash can, and say, this is how we're gonna win games, right? They win games unorthodox ways, just putting the ball in play, running the bases, doing the little things right throughout the season. And that's that's the way they won 97 games. They didn't win those games. I mean, honestly, they didn't win those games by out slugging teams. They didn't win those games by they put on a lot of runs. They had a lot of games where they put up a lot of runs, but when they put up a lot of runs, it was putting traffic on the base pass, being menaces out there. That's the way this team thrives, and I completely agree with you. It could go, I I think it's they're going to take a dip. I don't think right now they're on a trajectory, though, because they won 93, then they won 97. So, in all reality, they have to win 101. That's just the way it has to be. But I agree, I don't think they're going to be in that same spot. But like I said before, I like you said, I mean, I've been proven wrong many times with this Burroughs team, and I've been upset with the moves that they've made, not made, and then they end up winning 97 games. So at the same time, I don't know what to complain about anymore. But Aaron, I gotta run here. Let the people know where to find you out there across social media.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Yeah, it was it was great coming back on here. So uh I'm on probably my Most active on TikTok at Berly Honest Sports underscore uh on Twitter at Berly Honest Note, and then on obviously the podcasting platforms at at Berly Honest Sports. But yeah, looking forward to it, trades. It should be uh another good season for you. I don't I don't think brewers fall off a cliff and and you're like checked out by you know June 30th. That that would be I would hate to see that for you. I really I would hate to see that.
Brewers Bold Predictions For 2026
How To Listen And Opening Day Notes
SPEAKER_00So well, we'll have you back on here before June 30th. So you'll see if I'm checked out or not. We'll have him back on. Back in the Wisconsin Sports on the Go with Trage. I'm your host, Trage, as we're coming back in here on this Wednesday. This wacky Wednesday. I've been all over the place here. But we've been talking a lot of brewers, a lot of baseball. This next segment, we're gonna do our brewer bold predictions for this upcoming season. So I want to get bold predictions for this Milwaukee, the 2026 championship season, right? That's what we got to call it. The 2026 championship season. My bold predictions. And I want to start right away with my big one. And that is Jackson Churio will go 30. He's gonna be in the 30-30 club. I got it. He's going to. He's going to. I got that feeling. I don't know. It's Jackson Churio has been very underrated, very consistent over the past couple seasons now. I don't think, you know, you well, if you go off of big time media, right? They don't talk about him a lot there. They don't think that he's uh quite the star that we think that he is. But Jackson Churio has been solid for the past couple seasons here. 275 in 2024. Last season they're 270. He had 21 home runs both seasons. And then you look at the stolen base numbers. He went 20 plus in both seasons. Both years, though, 2024, he played 148 games. 2025, he played 131 games. I expect that to be upticked this year. I think he's going to be in the 30-30 club. No doubt in my mind. 30-30. The question always with Jackson Churio, and this is a question that I got earlier that I didn't even hit, was is Jackson Churio's aggressiveness at the plate a bad thing? Is it a worry? Is it an issue? Yes, to an extent of it gets you in the it leads to strikeout issues, right? And that's a problem that you have with Jackson Churio would be the strikeout issue. But outside of that, I mean, Jackson Churio has been nothing but consistent. He's been a solid bat for you. Pitchers know they're going to pitchers know that he will chase, that he has the occasion to chase, right? And it's going to be a question of can Jackson find it to be patient at the plate, wait for his pitch. I think a guy like Daniel Vogelbach coming in there to work with these hitters adds some patience to that. And I think maybe he's able to help Jackson Churio kind of work through that. So Jackson Churio, 30-30 club. Bryce Turang is gonna hit 25 plus home runs. He's gonna get those stolen base numbers back on. And he's also, maybe this one is a more of a bold prediction than my Jackson Churio. He's gonna be in the NVP conversation. Yeah. Yeah. Go with it. Run with it. Bryce Turang is taken. He is hitting Appo home runs right now. No doubt oppo home runs right now. And when Bryce Turang went lefty, when they find it to the opposite field, they got it pull side. And Bryce Turang's got it both ways right now. He can take the ball to all fields. He's got the ability for power. He's also got the ability just to plug a gap. Bryce Tarang and just lay a bunt out and beat it out. He's got the glove to go along with it. If you get Bryce Turang with a solid glove, he's bringing that big bat now. Bryce Tarang, 25 plus home runs, and in that MVP conversation, I'm all for it right now. I am in for it. That's my bold prediction right there. Joey Ortiz, here's one that people wanted to hear. Here's one that people wanted. Joey Ortiz will find a little bit more consistency at the play. He's gonna bat around 250. I'm calling it. I'm calling it. And people are like, 250, that's not even that high. Yeah, it is. All right. Yeah, yeah, it is. 250. If Joey Ortiz can hit me 250, I take that to the bank. I take it. I'm good with it. Because from what we've seen over the past, I mean, couple years, 250, solid. Solid. Last season wasn't there. Two years ago, started out well, went downhill. If he finds it and hits 250, I can live with that. And I it's a solid year for me. So I think Joe Your T is gonna hit 250. Here's one of my pitching ones. Brandon Sprout, he's gonna lead the team of strikeouts. I know a lot of people would say Jacob Mizarelski is gonna lead the team of strikeouts. That's a fair argument. You could have that argument with me. It's a it's an equal argument, I guess, but I'm gonna go with Brandon Sprout's gonna lead the team of strikeouts. I got it. I I think he will. I really do. That that breaking stuff that he's got, he's got the electric arm with that breaking stuff. He's gonna be good. Give me Brandon Sprout lead team in strikeouts this season. Kyle Harrison, Kyle Harrison, I think, is going to be an I don't how do you how do you phrase this? Like uh an underrated trade piece, or how would you how would you even phrase that? That's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to phrase it right now. I think Kyle Harrison is going to be a piece that wasn't, he's not gonna be as talked about as Brandon Sprout, but he's gonna be a very underrated piece to this rotation. And I think he's gonna slowly work himself into a solid top three guy in this rotation when it's all said and done. He's got all the stuff. He's got that electric arm like I was just talking about there with Brandon Sprout. And I think those two are gonna be a really good one-two punch, just those two. And then on top of that, you got Meserowski and Chad Patrick, and you have Brandon Woodruff to wrap it all up. This is gonna be a really good rotation that I don't think a lot of people are talking about right now, but I think they're going to be talking about halfway through the year. Here's one. This is for my grandma out there, because my grandma, I I am, I'm the resident Christian Yelich hater. I will take that. I am the resident Christian Yelich hater. I will, I don't know why. I just can never get over the fact that I can't figure out why I can't just like the guy. I don't know why. It's just consistently with me. I just can't find out. I just can't find it. Christian Yelich is gonna sit around 270, 270, 270 to 280 average. I think he's gonna get his average back up. He's got that leg kickback. I think he's gonna sit around 270, 280. I think he's gonna be right there. I do. I think he's gonna be solid. If he hits 270, 280, you add that in with Bryce Tarang, already hitting 25 plus home runs. You got Jackson Cherio in that 30-30 club, and then you got Joey Ortiz hitting 250. They don't even need anybody else. Just those four. Just those four, and they'll carry the team. They'll carry the whole team. But, but, but there's another one that I'm gonna add in on top of that one right now. There's another one that I'm gonna add in on top of every dynamite bold prediction that I've just given you right now, and that is William Contreras. Because William Contreras now has that fixed finger, right? Last season, the finger was, I think, the main reason why he dropped off. He only hit 260 last year, still had 17 home runs, but hit 260 last year. Year before that, he had 281 for the Brewers. Year before that, 289. I think William Contreras is gonna be back up there. He's gonna hit you 25 home runs this season for the Brewers. I think the power numbers are gonna come back for Contreras. He's getting hot coming off that World Baseball Classic. I think he's riding that eye. I think he's gonna continue that heat going into the year. I think he's gonna get back to his form. I think he's gonna be an all-star catcher when it's all said and done. I think William Contreras comes back. So to answer a question, I had a question that I didn't get to today here on the show, but I figured I'd answer in here with does his finger repair get William Contreras back to his form there after a little bit of a rough year last year? Yes. Yes, it does. I think he is back to form this season here, and I think he has a dynamite year. So I want to hear your bold predictions. Text them to me, 715-990-4914. 715-990-4914. Shoot those bold predictions to me. I'd love to hear it from you. Hit me up there. When we come back for the break, we're gonna wrap it up for the day.
