What Happens When You Fall Out of Love With Your Business
We rarely talk about those moments when the business you've built with passion suddenly feels heavy and disconnected. That's exactly where I found myself recently - not quite burnt out, but definitely feeling a sense of "meh" that I couldn't shake.
Have you ever built something that once lit you up, only to hit a stretch where you feel completely numb to it? In this raw and unplanned episode, I'm sharing my current struggle with feeling disconnected from my coaching business.
After returning from vacation, I've been questioning everything - my approach, my content, and whether I want to continue doing things the way I've been doing them.
For me, the realization was that I'd drifted from alignment. Despite teaching others to build businesses without constant hustling, I found myself resorting to Instagram DMs and sales calls during a slow period - the exact tactics I'd moved away from.
But here's what I'm discovering: sometimes we don't need a dramatic pivot or to push through. Sometimes, what we need most is to slow down enough to soften and reconnect with what matters.
If you're feeling lost in your business right now, I want to remind you that you're not broken or failing - you're evolving. And evolution requires stillness before strategy. Maybe the business you truly want is still waiting to be built, and maybe today isn't the day to build it.
Let's make it okay to talk about these moments of disconnection too. They're not just normal; they're necessary for growth.
Reach out to me at gary@garyredmond.net if this resonated with you. I'd love to hear your story of reconnection.

Welcome back to Unbox the Inbox with me, your host, gary Redmond. On this podcast, you'll learn how to grow your online business using the power of free and mostly automated email marketing, and we'll hopefully have some fun doing it too. I'm a co-founder of BusterBoxcom and also a mentor and coach, helping founders like me and you create your dream life through their online business. So today, this episode is going to be a little different. I didn't really plan anything fancy, not too much teaching or tactics, just me sitting here feeling a little bit disconnected from my business and maybe you felt that too, so I just wanted to talk it through, not from a place of having an answer, but from a place of actually being in it. So lately I've been feeling a little bit meh, to be honest, and not exactly burnt out, just bit off, disconnected. I was recently on vacation. I came back and I'm just kind of re-evaluating and everything that I'm doing and the efforts that I'm putting in and trying to focus on on the real high leverage tasks, like I've kind of been building this business, this coaching business, for freedom. But somehow I'm waking up feeling heavy and uninspired and I've been questioned do I even want to keep doing this in the way that I've been doing it and why it doesn't feel like it used to. So I know I'm not alone in that and if you've ever built something that once lit you up and then hit a stretch where you feel numb to it, then this is for you. So I've just been thinking about why this happens and for me it's because I probably drifted. I drifted from alignment and started saying yes to things that didn't feel like me and started listening to noise and stopped trusting my own signal. Like I was recently in a period of lack, like not a lot of clients coming in, and I resorted to DMs on Instagram, sales calls, all those kind of things that I've been moved away from for the last few years, to be honest, and like I teach to cut the client engine and my offer is around removing the hustle and stripping back to alignment and building, you know, text focused, email focused businesses that don't require sales calls. But even here, like the truth is, even the aligned model can feel heavy sometimes if you're not checking back in with yourself. So sometimes we don't actually need a pivot, like I was thinking about today.
Speaker 1:What I want to record about, like what feels, feels like something I want to talk about. I couldn't really just bring myself to just come out with some more tactics or anything like that. I just needed to, needed to pause and listen. So here's what I'm choosing right now. I'm not going to burn it all down, I'm not going to push through. I'm just going to slightly slow down, enough to feel soft and soften myself, because I can sometimes be so hard on myself and realize I'm not a machine, a content machine. And, as I said, I just came back from a vacation and things are a little bit, a little bit doughy in the gym and in my mind. But I just wanted to record this episode to just let you guys know that it happens to everyone, and I just wanted to ask myself what would feel nourishing to create today.
Speaker 1:What do I want to say, even if it doesn't perform, because so many, so often you think you should say something, to give this tip or this um, you know, tactic and really an insight or just being real and is what you need, is what you need to actually record and what you need to say. So it's kind of been slowly clicking in my mind over the last few weeks to be like content shouldn't be a chore. It shouldn't be a thing that has to be done that you dread doing. It should be just speaking from your heart and, like you know, ask yourself who do you want to be? And you want to be a leader. You want to be someone people can relate to.
Speaker 1:Like always, spouting about my method is better than everyone else's is not really going to build that connection. So I don't have it all figured out, to be honest, but I'm letting that be okay today, and so if you're in this space too, feeling a little off, or you have felt like that, or you're feeling a little lost right now, I just wanted to remind you today that you're not broken, you're not failing. You're evolving, and that requires stillness before strategy. Okay, maybe the business you actually want is still waiting to be built, and maybe today you don't need to build. Okay, so you need to come back to yourself, thank yourself for being here and I thank you for being here and thank you for letting me be in real today and so just resonate with you today. Shoot me a message. Let me make it okay to talk about this part too.
Speaker 1:And yeah, today's episode is just just a reflection on how I've been feeling and, yeah, I'm sure things will pick up again and in terms of my energy and my dedication. But you know it's it's just an episode to show you that everybody feels a little bit off with their business sometimes. No matter how much energy you feel like you have, sometimes it just dips and you don't really know what to say and you lose your own yourself. So when that happens, just slow down, just pause and wait till your energy returns. So that's it for today. If this resonated with you, you want to shoot me a message or whatever. You can email me, gary at garyredmannet, and if not, I'll see you next week in the next episode.
