Nutrition Cabana
My name is Abigail Green and I am so excited that you have decided to tune in to my podcast. I am currently a junior in high school and for as long as I can remember, science has always been my favorite subject throughout school. Growing up in a small beach town fostered my love for learning about nature, our environment, and ways our communities can contribute to it. During sophomore year, it fascinated me when my chemistry teacher taught us about the science of food additives and the chemistry behind how carbohydrates work in the human body. This is where I started to think about the science behind what we put into our bodies and how it affects our health and wellness. After learning about these topics, I decided to go on a personal health journey to improve my own nutrition. Shopping at different farmers' markets became a hobby for me as I navigated them for the freshest produce I could find. Along with personal changes, I also researched different supplements, diets, and read novels about how simple nutritional changes can protect our bodies from disease. In this podcast, you will find all sorts of topics in nutrition, ranging from studies on probiotic foods to natural remedies! Scientific research is used in each episode to explain how important good nutrition is to keep our bodies healthy and in the best shape to perform daily life tasks. This podcast is for anyone of all ages trying to learn more about overall health, health trends, and wants to either improve their health or spread the information to someone else. I really hope that you enjoy each episode and learn as much as I do.

Probiotics and Fermented Foods
In the first episode of my podcast, I researched Probiotics and fermented foods. I discuss how probiotics are live forms of bacteria that when consumed, directly increase the population of good bacteria in our microbiome. I talk about the three most common strains of probiotics: Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus brevis, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, and give an explanation of where these probiotics live in our bodies. I also include examples of probiotic foods and how we can incorporate them easily into our diets. Finally, I discuss two studies that were done on probiotics.
