Joe Burris
Hourglass host Joe Burris is the director of storytelling and public relations at United Way of King County. In addition to the podcast, Joe publishes blog posts, engages in community outreach, and serves as a liaison between United Way and the news media.
Prior to United Way, Joe served as a program officer at the Marguerite Casey Foundation in Seattle, where he managed grants to more than 50 nonprofits in the Deep South that advocated for racial and socioeconomic justice.
Joe’s move to Seattle in 2015 followed a 30-year career in journalism (Nashville Tennessean, Boston Globe, and Baltimore Sun), where he profiled newsmakers such as former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, actor/activist Harry Belafonte, actor Sylvester Stallone, tennis great Martina Navratilova, basketball great Kobe Bryant, baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron, and two Munchkins from the motion picture The Wizard of Oz.
