Episode 69: Monarchs in Trouble
This past week the US Fish and Wildlife Service announced plans to place the Monarch butterfly on the list of Threatened Species and opened a 90 day comment period on those plans. Monarchs and other pollinators are vital to food, produce, and large scale ag production. At the same time, so are herbicides and pesticides. In this episode we chat with Wendy Caldwell, executive director of Monarch Joint Venture about what all this means to the Monarchs and to production agriculture. NOTE: the 90 day comment period ends in March 2025, but the soonest any listing of the Monarch on the threatened list can happen would be December of 2025.
