Growing Up With Vince & Jeremy
We grew up in the UK from 1970 to 1990. This show is all about the two of us looking back and putting bits of our shared past under the microscope, from the early ‘80s ‘Protect and Survive’ /Mutually Assured Destruction nuclear panic, to the theme music from The Incredible Hulk; from Wimpy Burgers to wimpy Orac from Blake’s 7; from the Falklands War to Falco’s Rock Me Amadeus. We look back with fondness and bafflement and sometimes with abject disbelief at what life was like when we were growing up.
Growing Up With Vince & Jeremy
11 American Rabbits (Unreasonably Angry Fictional Police Chiefs / Bright Eyes by Art Garfunklel from 1979 / TV Boffins)
"I want your gun and your badge!"
Inspired by TV cops Starsky and Hutch and big-screen fascist Detective Dirty Harry, Vince grabs coffee and donuts and gets hauled into the Unreasonably Angry Fictional Police Chief's office to be a torn a new asshole (for 22 minutes) about his increasingly maverick but nonetheless incredibly successful approach to front-line urban law enforcement.
Sporting a monocle, Jeremy puts on his thinking cap and tweed jacket with leather patches on the elbows as he sucks on a pipe and, for 22 minutes, celebrates the real-life eccentric boffins who entertainingly taught science to the nation through popular TV shows such as Think of a Number, The Sky at Night, and The Great Egg Race.
Back in mad old 1979, the lanky and strange Art Garfunkel had a huge UK number one hit with Bright Eyes, a song written by the man who wrote singalong pop songs for The Wombles, and which was taken from the soundtrack to Watership Down, the disturbing animated kids film about rabbits being splattered and maimed and terrified. Mad old 1979 was a very weird year.
