Before Christ you were a slave to sin, no need to surrender, obeying sin was natural and easy. After belief, it's very similar. If it was natural and easy to obey God there would be no need for the command to surrender to Him.

One of the conditions, I think, that we'll turn to Romans chapter six.

Romans chapter six is this idea of a surrender. The idea of surrender. This is not how you get saved.

Obviously, when you become saved, you don't even know everything that's a part of the Christian life. You're just learning what? You're learning, well, I mean, I mean, I'm a sinner. I need salvation. I need to be saved from the product of my sin, which is separation from God forever. So what do I need? Well, I need I need salvation in Christ. And Christ paid the penalty for my sin on the cross, and he rose again to vindicate that in fact the penalty was paid and the Father accepted the payment. So what do I need? Well, I need to believe in him. That's it. I mean, what must I do to be saved? Believe in the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved, right? So that's the only condition for having salvation or eternal life. But what we're not what we're talking about now is something different. We're talking about something that you realize later in your Christian life as you go through and you're studying and you're learning, you realize that God wants your will.
Notice at Romans chapter 6. He's talking to believers.

If we have died with Christ, and we have, talk about this. This is the baptizing ministry of the Spirit. Moment we believe in Christ, we are crucified with Christ, we die with him. He says, then we also believe also that we shall live with him. Talking about our future resurrection, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again. Death no longer is master over him, because the death that he died, he died to sin once for all. He did that on the cross, right? He died for all once on the cross. But the life that he lives now in resurrection, of course, he lives to God. Even so, consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. So there's this consideration, this reckoning in your mind that you are dead to sin. And instead of being alive to sin, who are you alive to? You are alive to God. So you have to reckon this in your mind to consideration, something you think about again. Verse 12, therefore, so that signals a conclusion, right? Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts. I mean, the the temptations are strong. You still have a sin nature or flesh, and this is powerful. And you tend to want to just give in to it, but he says, do not let it rain, rain as a master or a king, right? In your mortal body so you obey its lusts.
And then he says that do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness, but instead present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. He's telling us here in verse 13 to stop doing one thing and do something else. This word presenting, do not go on presenting, is an heiress. And many people think it means what it means is stop doing that. Like an urgent heiress, like stop it. Quit it. Have you ever said that to your kid? Quit it. You keep doing this, quit it. Okay, that would be the sense here. He's saying, stop doing this. Stop doing what? Stop presenting the members of your body, the mortal fleshly aspect of ourself, to the sin nature as an instrument to be used for unrighteousness. That's the sense. He's saying, stop doing that. The more you do that, the more difficult it is to stop, isn't it? You just build up a habit pattern of doing this sin over and over. He says, so stop doing that. Instead, what should you start doing? Well, present yourselves to God. Now, again, we think this is a once-for-all. It's the moment when you realize, okay, I belong to him, and I'm not supposed to just do whatever I want to do and fulfill my lessly desires, but I'm here for him.

I belong to him, and I want to do his will. I want my will, as the Lord Jesus Christ said, to be his will.

He says, Not my will be done, but thy will. That's when he's making that transition. See, in his thinking, he's thinking out loud for us to show us what it means. You're saying to him, you're saying, Not my will, but your will. You are subjecting your will to his. You're surrendering your will. But this doesn't happen the moment you become a believer. This happens later, right? When you go, oh boy, what did I get myself into?
Um hold your hold yourself, your place in first uh Romans and turn to 1 Corinthians 6 6, uh, 19 and 20. So hold your place in Romans. 1 Corinthians 6, 19 through 20. Somewhere along the way in your Christian life, what you realize is the magnitude of what he's done for you. If you if you stick with it, if you you stick with the text and you stick with the Bible, you realize what he's done for you. And then you you want to have a respond to that, a response, right? Some of us, we were, I think my wife and I were talking the other day, we didn't realize what our parents had done for us until we were 45. And everybody who's some reached that point realizes that, right? And you you you almost you kind of feel bad, like that you didn't you know respond to that anymore, yeah, have that appreciation. Um there's somewhere in your Christian life, you've been in it long enough, that you kind of start to appreciate and what you had to appreciate is what is happening here in First Corinthians 6 19 and 20. He says, Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit? We've already talked about that, right? Your body, the moment you believed, you're regenerated, and there's an inner sanctum, and the Holy Spirit indwells in there. And he says, You have this body that's a temple now of the Holy Spirit from God, and that you are not your own.

You are owned. You're owned by someone else. And that's what he says in verse 20, for you have been bought with a price.

You've been bought somebody paid the price to you. Obviously, the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, what is the logical conclusion to that? Well, glorify God and your body. Once you come to realize this, that you're not your own, that you've been purchased with a price, that the Lord Jesus Christ paid that price on the cross, and you're and you know you're not your own, then what you want to do is you want to stop presenting your members right to the sin nature as instruments of unrighteousness, and you want to once for all surrender and present yourself to God.
