All we have here is an episode of Really? It stars Mel Gibson. What has he done now? Well, let me tell ya. He apparently decided that it would be a good idea to make fun of an American Sign Language interpreter at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto over the weekend. Aren't relations with Canada strained enough, Mel? He was walking onto the stage for a QA when he passed the interpreter and started mimicking her hand movements behind her back. It wasn't like there's some complicated misunderstanding here, or it was playful. Oh no, there's video, and it was just so stupid. So of course it got posted online, and pretty quickly the reaction was basically, dude, seriously? Or in this case, dude, really? Well, he's now apologized, calling it spontaneous, thoughtless idiocy, and there was no intended maliciousness. Now here's a guy that doesn't have a spotless history when it comes to making questionable decisions in public. Let's see. Remember the 2006 DUI arrest? Put on that anti-Semitic tirade. Then in 2010, recordings of a phone call with his former girlfriend containing racist and threatening remarks. He later pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge related to that relationship. So you'd think, after all of that, maybe just when you walk onto a stage, just walk onto the stage. You don't have to say anything, you don't have to do anything, you don't have to make fun of the person who's standing there doing their job, communicating with the audience. But he thought, nah, a little pan of mine. That's what this moment needs. And again, apologizing, but he had to add in to anyone who was offended. Those are the worst apologies. You just leave that off. Everyone was probably offended. Just say, I'm a thoughtless idiot. And that would be much better decision. But then again, it's Mel Gibson. Good decisions really aren't going with the territory.
