In this episode, we spotlight Travis Pennica and Matthew Shanks, Pearland ISD students whose hard work and craftsmanship earned them the prestigious title of Houston Livestock Show Grand Champions in Industrial Craft Competition. These two talk us through the journey, from learning the basics of welding in Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses to designing and building an award-winning project.
Travis and Matthew share how the Pearland High School welding program helped shape their skills, and what it takes to stand out in an industry filled with talent from across Texas. They also dive into the real-world value of skilled trades, how local industry partnerships enrich the program, and why CTE is about so much more than shop class, it’s about building careers.
