#75 - Dan Henson, Sr., Owner of Arts & Central Restaurant

This week, Sarasota Speax sits down with owner of the Arts & Central Restaurant, located downtown in the Rosemary District.  Don Henson spent 30 years in the corporate world, but always had a bucket list item that included starting an upscale casual restaurant with a Northern California feel.  In fact, during an RV trip across America in 2020 with his wife, several restaurants located in northwestern portion of California provided the inspiration for Arts & Central.

The crew, which this week includes Dr. Rob Jones (filling in guest host duties for Brad) dives into how Don eventually settled on the concept that his restaurant now embraces.  We learn the process that was taken over the course of a year to get the right location, the right people, and the right menu in place to serve their customers something truly unique.  While the name of the restaurant is a play on the location (the intersection of Central Avenue and Blvd of the Arts), the establishment embraces the art community of Sarasota.  So much so, that they include a variety of poetry and art onto their menus, which all guests can take home with them.

Of course, we get Don’s thoughts on Sarasota, the growth that’s happened over the years, why he chose to live here, and his thoughts on Roundabouts.  We also put Don through the Rapid Fire Gauntlet to here what his answers are to some very interesting questions.
