Here's a little spoiler. It's probably more than praying quietly for your patients. Somewhere there where nobody knows and occasionally squeezing in a devotional. today, I'm revealing three core areas you must grow in. if you want to lead with impact Hear the voice of God clearly, and walk in the Ministry of healing. So stay tuned for after the music and we'll be right back. welcome to the Heal the Healers podcast, where we explore the intersection of faith and medicine. Discover your God-given potential and experience Christ's healing in the midst of medical burnout. I'm your host, Inga Hoffman, a pediatric key mock doc, physician, coach, and follow of Jesus. Together we will navigate the challenges of medicine, integrate faith into our personal and professional lives. Experience, spiritual renewal and find restoration in Christ. Welcome to the Heal the Healers, where Christ heals one physician and one patient at a time./Hey there, physician friend. Well, I'm so excited to be back on another episode of Heal the Healers, and today I'm super excited to share. Just some thoughts that I had about, how can we make a bega impact? What do you need to do to really grow in your walk as Christian physician? If you have followed the show for a while here, the healers is all about integrating faith and medicine boldly so that you can live your faith and be a testimony of Jesus. So. I see you're trying to love Jesus and you are serving your patients and you're working really hard, but perhaps something is missing. You've been treating bodies and treating your patients, but what about their, their spiritual, their emotional side that we often don't have time for? In today's episode, I'm gonna introduce three foundational areas You must grow in if you want to. Step fully in your calling, not just as a doctor, but as a kingdom physician. So grab a notebook, grab a pen and paper, and let's do this. Now before I dive into these three topics I just wanna take a moment here. Number one, to thank you. If you have been listening to the show, I really appreciate you listening to Heal the Healers. And please do me a favor subscribe, leave a review for this podcast really blesses me but also you might have noticed. That if you have listened to the show on YouTube that, this episode is not on YouTube, and that's for good reason. I have listened to my listeners or observed what they're doing, and for the most part, people really listen to the podcast version on audio on the go. Totally understandable. You are a busy physician. Chances are you are listening to this while taking a walk, doing some chores around the house, commuting to work, whatever it might be, and I totally get that. So I just decided to let perfection step. To the side and actually put the show out in a way that serves you and me the best, which is audio only because almost everybody listens to the audio version and not on video. And honestly, video production takes a lot more time and here is the truth about me. Because video production takes more time takes more prep time. And it's sometimes harder to do in just a busy household with kids and trying to get the video ready I decided. To simplify so that I can get more shows to you because I wanna be more consistent. I have a lot of content and kind of messages and teachings that are really on my heart that I feel the Lord is sharing that I felt like would be helpful lessons for you to learn and to. Chew on and I don't want perfectionism stand in the way. So we are gonna do this audio only and I think it is serving us really well. So thank you for sticking with me and listening to the show. And feel free to share it with others that you think would really benefit and would be blessed by it. Let's talk about the three foundational areas that I really believe you have to grow in as a kingdom physician. I mean, because as Christian physicians, we are pulled in so many different directions, but I wanna really give you three foundational nuggets for you to focus on growth areas as a Kingdom physician, and I invite you to listen and see what resonates. And my goal is actually moving forward with the episodes that in some way or another, I will touch on one of these three core pillars that I will be sharing here in a moment. What are the three areas that I believe you need to grow in? And why is it important? Well. When I look at my journey as a Christian physician, I realized that. It is often like living in two worlds. It's a bit of a tuck of world. You know, there's medicine over here and we're working really hard and then there's our faith on the other end of the spectrum and often due to multiple reasons. It feels like a little bit of a tuck of war. It feels like we are living in two worlds. You know, people in the church don't really understand the struggles we are going through just even how our lives look like. And people at the hospital certainly don't get our faith for the most part. And we are even perhaps hesitant to share any of that. Out of maybe fear of man, fear of retaliation, et cetera. So we live in these two worlds and often that presents a tuck of war. And honestly, it's kind of exhausting and schizophrenic, but that's not really the life Jesus. Wants us to live right? He gave us this born life. He gave you the gifts of being able to study hard, being able to have compassion on patients, and he led you to medicine for a reason. Chances are most of you really felt like entering medicine, being a physician was a calling and not just a job you picked. And along the way I. We often struggle to keep up that faith and keep our faith integrated into everything we do. And there's a lot we can talk about in these areas that I will sort of reserve for other episodes. But what I've found is that it was a struggle sort of in three different directions or on these three pillars. The first one is healing is really a ministry. So the first pillar is healing ministry, which is essentially our healing mandate of being a physician. But more than that, being a Christian physician, a kingdom physician we are called to partner with God and not just use our medical knowledge, but also. To incorporate what we knew about healing from the Bible. I truly believe that, and I know that sometimes these two worlds are a little bit at odds. Right now we are going through a deep dive in the Heal the Healers Mentorship program, where I mentor Terrain equip disciple Christian physicians. In the areas of healing ministry and we are actually talking deeply about what does that look like healing through prayer. What was the ministry of Jesus about healing? So that's something of interest to you. You can definitely join us and I will share more about that at the end, so stay tuned. So the key part here in. The healing ministry is really to understand that we have a healing mandate that we need to integrate our faith and the healing and medicine into one model. And we can talk a lot more in future episodes, how that looks like, but we need to grow in this area, not just equip our medical knowledge, but also what does the Bible say about healing and. Understand that God is the ultimate healer, even when he's using medicine and our medical knowledge, he is the one that heals the patient. Looking at biblical principles, and you probably even know this from just practice and medicine, healing is not just a physical thing. There is emotional, they are spiritual, they are relational aspects, and the Bible speaks about those very clearly. But often medicine and our healthcare system lack to address these kind of issues. I wanna encourage you that in the healing ministry of Jesus, and ask Christian physicians we can be highly educated, believing in science, believing in what we know about medicine what we have learned along the way, yet still move in the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the clinical space. And that is such a wonderful way to partner with the Lord, to use his insight. When we approach patients. And I have to say that many times that clinical intuition that was beyond my medical knowledge, often I really believe God gave me divine insight to. Address a patient's needs on a deeper level or maybe give me clues about what else to look into or solve a difficult clinical problem because he gave me his Holy Spirit guidance. So there is so much there. And I wanna encourage you to really lean into the areas of healing. Beyond just your medical training. I wanna encourage you with a scripture from Luke that talks about in Luke nine, two, Jesus sent out the disciples. And here it says in this verse, he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. And just like he sent out the disciples, Jesus is sending us out into the medical world to be his hands and feet. So what I want you to do is in your quiet time, maybe when you journal, when you have a moment later, if you're driving, don't do it now, but really reflect and journal on and ask yourself, where have I limited my understanding of feeling just to medicine? And that's, I know it's a loaded question, but I think it is an important one and a powerful one to ask ourselves. We have, I limited myself and therefore my patience in. Healing where I thought just about medicine. So really important question. Now that's pillar number one. So healing ministry, which is essentially our healing mandate. Pillar number two is kingdom leadership. Now leadership is a really important aspect of what we do, and I believe you are not just a doctor, a physician, you are actually also a leader. John Maxwell which has been a, mentor to me in some sphere for many years, probably for a decade. I became a certified John Maxwell coach, teacher, and trainer and leadership things. And he always says leadership is influenced nothing more and nothing less. So we are all. Influencing in various spheres that we are operating in, whether it's in our community, in our families, in our churches, as well as in your workplace. Whether you are in a clinic or in a hospital, or you are maybe in research, you are having an influence on people and therefore you have. A leadership role because a leadership role isn't about titles or positions, it is really about influencing another person. Leadership in medicine is critical and we see. So many problems occurring these days because leadership is really lacking and it's certainly not coming from kingdom principles, from biblical principles. It's coming from a wordly system, often a system fed by mamon like the love of money. There seems to be always a winning and a losing side. And often the losing side is the patient and more and more us as well as physicians as we are getting burned out and feeling we are cock in the wheel. Leading with integrity, with, boldness from a servant and stewarding perspective is really something that is. Quite important, and I wanna encourage you to learn more about leadership, the Kingdom Way. How would Jesus lead having a servant heart leadership that is Holy Spirit led and empowered? And when you do that. Things around you will change and you can have a drastic impact. I wanna encourage you to lean into that. We are gonna talk a lot more on this podcast about how to lead well as a Christian physician, and I wanna encourage you with the scripture. Proverbs 29 18. Where there is no vision, the people perish. Vision is one of those aspects we can give. As leaders, we can give direction we can chart territory this way. And that's something that many people and many leaders actually lack. And therefore there's chaos and programs and divisions. What I want you to think about I encourage you to ask yourself this question, am I leading from a place of fear or am I leading from a place of faith and am influence influencing? From a place of faith, from a heavenly, from a kingdom perspective, am I just hustling to seek approval of others and men? So again, am I leading from a place of fear or am I leading from a place of faith and. I know that's probably a loaded question and might take some time to reflect on that, but I want you just even this week to observe where am I leading from a place of fear and where am I leading from a place of faith? Now, the third pillar is. Discipleship. And with that, I wanna say deep discipleship and spiritual growth. It is so important that we spend time to really grow in our spiritual and earth sphere, in faith, in the Board of God, in knowing God in intimacy with Jesus and growing ourselves, but also discipling others. And really the word of God is our foundation here. It renews your mind, it gives you direction, it teaches you about God's character. And it is critical that you equip yourself in the word of God. And I talk about this all the time. I'm sure we'll have more episodes on this. Discipleship And spiritual formation and growth also means that we are. Willing to come under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, be guided by it and be pruned by the Holy Spirit, and also being led by the Holy Spirit so that we abide in Jesus. And as we abide in Jesus, we will follow his footsteps. We will walk his ways. We live like he did, and therefore our life is being transformed. And when you grow in a spiritual way, in your faith, in your intimacy with the Lord, in hearing the voice of God more clearly, you will be less confused. The chaos in the world that is happening will. Not shake you because you have sustained unshakeable faith in the Lord. And I want that for you. And leaders like this in medicine are desperately needed right now, especially that are strong in faith to weather the storms that we are up against and it's not gonna get easier. So I really want you to press in growing. In your spiritual growth, in your discipleship, in your love for Jesus in intimacy with him. And perhaps a question you could ask yourself what is one spiritual discipline that I need to start prioritizing this week? Maybe I've gotten off track with your quiet time, restart your quiet time. Maybe you are like, well, my prayer life is kind of lousy then. Ask the Lord to guide you and really form a discipline of a prayer for life. I give you a lot of tips and we will continue to do that. I really wanna encourage you tune into these episodes every week because these are gonna be the things we will be talking about. So again, in summary. It is the healing ministry, the healing ministry of Jesus, pillar number one, which is essentially our healing mandate that goes beyond just your medical knowledge, but partnering with God, partnering with the Holy Spirit to bring the healing ministry of Jesus to your patience, but actually also the mission field of. Your colleagues, the coworkers around you. Pillar number two is kingdom leadership. So be a kingdom leader. Work with biblical principles and integrity. Lead from a servant leadership perspective just as Jesus did and love the people. And pillar number three is deep discipleship and spiritual growth, I really want to equip you to get hungry for the word of God. To be equipped in prayer and fervent in prayer like the Bible teaches us. And to be able to know and hear the voice of God. All these things are critical, important, I have to say. We cannot do our jobs well if we don't do these three things. These are absolutely foundational. That's why I wanted to dedicate a separate episode so that you understand these are really the three pillars I need to grow in if I want to be an effective. A Kingdom physician, not just a Christian physician who is a physician who happens to be a Christian. No, no, no. You are, they are planted by the Lord to be a kingdom physician, to bring the kingdom of God into your sphere of influence. And that might look different for different people. But this is a calling that I don't want you to take lightly and really. Just like you went to medical school, equip yourself in the word and the knowledge of God to walk out this calling and your assignment. So the last thing to mention, just to wrap up here, I wanna make sure that you really understand, you have to be intentional in all these three areas. Growth is never an automatic process. If you want to grow, you have to be intentional about it. You have to make time for it. You will make sacrifices for it, but it will have an impact, not just in earthly impact, what you're doing when you focus on these three areas, you're actually storing up treasures in Heaven, where Moth cannot take away those treasures that you're building up. That's really what it's all about. I'm gonna speak some things over you and I wanna pray for you so that you can grow in these areas. You can even repeat this this declaration to say, I am not just a physician. God, I am a kingdom healer. I. Grow in the ministry of healing of Jesus, and I rise in kingdom leadership. I will equip myself in Kingdom leadership principles and I will be rooted in the word of God. So I can be led by the word of God and by the Holy Spirit and be trained up by the Holy Spirit to understand the word of God more deeply. And I just decree and declare over you that you carry because you have Jesus, you have a Holy Spirit in you that you carry his healing power and every patient encounter. Because remember that it is Jesus who heals. It's not us that takes the pressure off as well. It is Jesus who heals whether it is, using you through your medical knowledge that he has given your wisdom and mental and intellectual capacity to carry all that knowledge around or whether it is through prayer. So laying of our hands, Jesus is the one that he is. So let me pray for you, Lord. I pray that you awaken every Christian physician that is listening to this today, and I pray that you draw them deeper into the word of. God that you train their hands and their hearts and their minds to follow you closely. That every patient encounter they see as a divine appointment and encounter that you brought together, that you appoint them for this encounter and for this season, give them, deep discernment in the knowledge of God to really take care of every patient, not just the medical knowledge, but also partnering with you and the Holy Spirit and every patient encounter so that they can bring the ministry of healing to their patients, to their colleagues, and be a light in this world. Help them. To lead well and grow in their hunger and desire to get to know you more, Jesus to grow in the. Knowledge of the word of God, as well as hearing your voice and just deeper desires for a prayer life. Thank you for multiplying their impact, for positioning them where you need them right now, in this hour. In name we pray. So I bless you with that. If you want to grow more in these three areas in, in healing ministry, in kingdom leadership, in discipleship and spiritual growth, well then join my mentorship program, which is a community by Christian physicians called Heal the Healers Mentorship Program, where I do exactly that, I equip you in this.
