The Christian Physician | Healthcare, Faith, Medicine, Leadership, Healing Prayer, Trust God
Do you feel called to medicine, but unclear what God is asking of you in this season?
Are you longing for deeper intimacy with Jesus, but struggling to make space for Him in the demands of medicine?
Do you crave clear direction from the Holy Spirit, yet feel stuck in overthinking, uncertainty, or spiritual noise?
I’m so glad you’re here.
This podcast will help you hear God’s voice clearly in your daily life so you can boldly integrate your faith and medicine and step confidently into your God-given purpose in every season.
I’m Inga, a Christian physician, mom, wife, and follower of Jesus.
For years, I tried to live out my faith authentically while navigating the relentless pressures of academic medicine. But honestly? I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and often unsure whether I was hearing God… or just my own thoughts.
I wanted clarity about career decisions, patients, and daily life. I tried to stay consistent with prayer and Scripture, but medicine kept pulling me off track. My quiet time was hit-or-miss. Faith felt compartmentalized. I felt defeated.
Then something shifted.
I realized I didn’t need more striving — I needed margin. I needed habits rooted in intimacy, not performance.
When I committed to daily Scripture and prayer (for real this time), intimacy with God became my foundation. And from that place, I began hearing His voice with clarity — in prayer, in intercession, and even in caring for my patients.
That shift led to Spirit-led discernment, bold obedience, and even a miracle with one of my patients that changed me forever.
I have never been the same.
Now I help Christian physicians:
• Hear God’s voice — even on their busiest days
• Integrate faith and medicine without apology
• Walk confidently as Spirit-led doctors who honor both God and science
If you’re ready to stop compartmentalizing your faith and start walking fully in your calling, this podcast is for you.
Grab your journal and your sword (yes, your Bible).
Let’s become the physicians God created us to be.

have you ever heard a testimony and you were just so encouraged, and it really built your faith? So that's what we're gonna do today. I will share a testimony, and my prayer is that you will be encouraged greatly and just feeling a new sense of hope to step boldly into integrating faith and medicine in your medical practice. So stay tuned for after the music, and we'll be right back. Hey there. Welcome back. My name is Inga Hofmann. I'm the host of this podcast. By training, I'm a pediatric hematologist oncologist, and for many years, I led the bone marrow transplant program at the University of Wisconsin in pediatrics. But the Lord led me different ways, and today I wanna share a little bit of that testimony. Some of you have heard it in the beginning, I actually recently shared this at church just last weekend on Mother's Day at the time of this recording, and it was such a blessing to be able to share that. We're reminded what God can do as we yield to Him. As I'm sharing this, I want you to be mindful of remembering I'm not a special person. I'm not special or different than you, and God has called us all to different things, and my prayer and hope is that you will be encouraged and inspired to just go deeper with the Lord. That's really why I'm hosting this show to ignite a passion for the Word of God, for a deeper relationship with Him, and also equipping you to walk your faith out and integrate faith and medicine boldly and discover your calling, go after your calling, all those kind of good things. Before I share this testimony, remember to sign up for the Heal the Healers conference in Boston for the wait list as I am currently building out registration so that you will be the first to notify when this amazing event will take place. So it is October 30 and 31st. We will be in Boston, Massachusetts. It's the Heal the Healers conference for physician and healthcare professionals, so you can bring your nurse friends, other heal-healthcare professionals whether they are in counseling or pharmacy or wherever they might be, because it will really bless you and them I believe the Lord is really building a movement in medicine from all different directions, and He needs all of us, and I'm a big believer to coming together. And so that's what this event will all be about. The focus and the theme and the topics will all center around healing and miracles. That means healing, restoration for you. That's what I'm believing for, as well as equipping you for healing and restoration for those around you. So we're gonna talk scientifically, we are talking theology, and we are gonna get very practical. So please don't miss it. Sign up for the wait list. It's at ingahofmann.com/events. I will put the link in the show notes so that you can sign up today. You will, in the meantime, get encouragements from me, prayers, prophetic words, little teaching nuggets. Whatever I'm chewing on, I usually share so that you will be encouraged and equipped. All right. Let's dive into this testimony. So a few years ago, during the height of COVID, I was caring for a patient, a little baby, with a rare blood disease requiring a bone marrow transplant. And from the beginning, we knew that the risk of complications were high and the prognosis really guarded. As physicians, we do everything we can for our patients, and most of my career, my mindset had been, "I do my best, and God does the rest." That mindset has certainly helped me carry the weight of difficult situations. But during this season, the Lord was really beginning to shift some deep things in me. For probably a year or so, I had finally built a consistent habit of daily scripture, prayer and quiet time with the Lord after I have tried so many times and failed. And that's why I keep on reinforcing that across my podcast. Get in the scriptures even if you have failed in the past. As this child went through the transplant, I found myself suddenly drawn To prayer in a way that I had never experienced before. Instead of simply praying, "Lord, help me. Please make this patient better. You can do it," those kind of prayers, I felt like the Lord was showing me specifically what to pray for. I began praying over specific organs that medically I was not at all concerned about at the time. I felt prompted to pray over the lungs or the liver, and honestly, clinically and medically at that moment, it did not make any sense whatsoever, but I kept praying. And I now realize the Lord was teaching me about prophetic intercession long before I even had language for it. He was teaching me how to stand in the gap for someone else in prayer. And over the following weeks, this baby became critical ill. Every possible major complication we feared happened, and he ended up in the ICU on life support. Eventually, we reached the point of end of life discussions with the family. Professionally, I understood how serious the situation was. Everything in my experience told me how unlikely recovery was, and if you're an intensivist or in specialties like oncology, you totally get what I'm saying. But through month of prayer, something supernaturally had happened in me. This unshakable faith had risen up. It wasn't emotional hype or wishful thinking, but a deep conviction that somehow this child would pull through. In fact, I had already seen it by the Spirit as the Lord was working with me in these prayer sessions for weeks and weeks, and I knew that my faith wasn't coming from me. It was the gift of faith rising up through the power of the Holy Spirit through intercession. After that last difficult family meeting with the ICU where we basically called in everybody to say, "This is the end of the rope," things suddenly began to turn. The oxygen improved, and the child got better every day. He was discharged Christmas Eve, and that was such an amazing testimony within itself. And I realized I'm not the healer. Jesus is the healer. Yes, as physicians, we work hard, and we study, and we use every skill the Lord has given us. That's good. He has given you skill and intellect to train. But The Kingdom of God is not a theory in our heads and minds. It's not some theological concept that has no fruit. The Kingdom of God is in us, and it is at hand because Christ lives in us, and He desires to partner with us. Through this experience, the Lord has really transformed me forever, and it's a huge part of my story and why I'm even sharing on this podcast and hosting events and mentoring and coaching and equipping physicians. It's because of what I learned in these difficult moments. And, in parallel through that patient's story, I had my own healing journey from things I didn't even realize I carried in my body and emotions for decades. Ultimately, this journey led me to leave my academic position that I had trained for most of my life. That means the steady paycheck, the health insurance, all the little benefits that come with that job security, and maybe the academic accolades, gone. And I began to train as a prayer minister and began to ministering to other physicians like you to boldly integrate faith and medicine. It wasn't something I just decided to do one day. It was a real journey that was also very difficult at times to walk through this, and it came with price and with came with sacrifice. But that's what I felt the Lord is leading me to do. So today, my encouragement to you is very simple. Stay close to Jesus. Spend time with Him. Consistently be in the Word and in prayer. And if your prayer feels like they're hitting the ceiling, remember, prayer is not a performance or a hit-and-run operation where you just go and dump your requests to the Lord and then take off about your day. It is a beautiful conversation and a relationship with the Lord where we get to partner with Him. So today, I wanna encourage you, as you draw close to Him, He draws close to us. He draws close to you. So brother and sister, or the curious person on the other side of this podcast, take heart. The Lord loves you. He will draw you close. Just take one step towards Him, and He will draw close to you, and He has a purpose and a goodwill for your life. And I pray that you lean in and lean into the Word and in prayer, and He will open doors for you. He will show you things that you could never imagine It won't be easy. It won't be a walk in the park. None of this over the last several years has been a walk in the park. It's probably one of the hardest things I've ever done, harder than med school and fellowship training in different ways. But I so cherish these moments with the Lord. Even there are many moments in between where I'm like, "Is this working? Is the Lord here? I'm struggling over here. Are you hearing me?" But it is so worth it when you see Him come through and when you can lean into His presence, and that's my wish and prayer for you. That's why this podcast exists. That's why I mentor and equip Christian physicians. That's why I even coach secular physicians, because I believe in them, and I wanna help them. I often say it's better than curing childhood cancer in many ways because of the ripple effect their work has on medicine and other families. And that's also why I'm hosting the conference in Boston because I know and I sense the Lord is creating a movement in the medical field because so many things are broken. But what can you do today? Today, I encourage you to draw close to Him. That's all. That's baby step number one. Open your Bible, even if you haven't opened it in many months or maybe even years, and start reading and drawing close to Him. He will reveal Himself to you. Just be patient, and don't give up. I pray for you, and I encourage you, and I bless you. Have a wonderful day, and talk to you soon.
