So many entrepreneurs today spend hours on social media watching other people's lives. Luxury houses. Exotic vacations. Expensive cars. Private jets. Perfect lifestyles that look exciting and glamorous.

But there is a hidden danger behind consuming this type of content every day.

When entrepreneurs constantly watch other people's luxury lives, they slowly begin to focus on what they don't have instead of focusing on what they are building. They begin to believe they are far away from their dreams. They begin to compare their early stage journey with someone else's finished success story.

This habit silently steals motivation, clarity, happiness, and focus.

Many entrepreneurs stop showing up to their business, delay important work, fall back into old habits, and lose confidence in themselves simply because they are measuring their life against someone else's highlight reel.

The truth is that entrepreneurship is not built by comparison. It is built by commitment, daily progress, and focusing on your own path.

Entrepreneurs who break through in business are the ones who protect their mindset, choose the right content to consume, and stay focused on their own goals, vision, and daily progress.

Your journey is your journey. When you stop comparing your life to someone else's lifestyle and start focusing on your own growth, you unlock the energy, clarity, and discipline needed to build something meaningful.

Key Takeaways

1. Not all social media content is beneficial for entrepreneurs

Some content teaches valuable lessons, insights, and strategies. Other content only shows lifestyle and luxury, which can negatively impact your mindset and focus.

2. Constant comparison creates a damaging mindset

Watching other people's luxury lifestyles can lead entrepreneurs to believe they are lacking, failing, or far behind in their journey.

3. This habit steals motivation and productivity

When entrepreneurs focus on what they don't have, they often lose the motivation to show up to their business, work on their habits, and move forward.

4. Social media often shows the highlight, not the struggle

Many successful people went through years of hardship, failures, and setbacks before reaching success. Those struggles are rarely shown online.

5. Happiness does not come from material possessions

Luxury cars, houses, and wealth do not guarantee happiness. Many people who have everything materially still struggle with happiness and fulfillment.

6. Protect your mindset by choosing what you consume

Entrepreneurs must be intentional about the type of content they consume. Educational and growth-focused content helps you move forward.

7. Focus on your own entrepreneurial journey

Your progress should not be measured against someone else's life. Focus on your goals, your vision, and the actions you take each day.

8. Success is built through consistent action

Entrepreneurs who stay committed to their daily habits, discipline, and growth will eventually move closer to their goals and dreams.

(0:08) Hey everyone, welcome to the Breakthrough Entrepreneurial Show, where we empower (0:11) entrepreneurs to build good habits, break old habits, rebuild powerful routines, (0:18) overcome burnout, improve performance, and create a healthier and more focused (0:24) entrepreneurial life, while making consistent progress in building their business. (0:30) I'm your host, Muhammad Faraj, and today our topic is Avoid this bad habit that is slowing down (0:39) your entrepreneurial progress. You see, nowadays on social media, you can upload, you can watch (0:49) any content you want, but not all types of content is good for you as an entrepreneur. (1:00) Because, unfortunately, nowadays social media enables people to upload any type of content, (1:06) and some of that content is good for you, is beneficial, is providing so many tips, strategies, (1:15) insights, failures, mistakes, things that people, they have gone through in their (1:22) personal experiences. But, unfortunately, there is a type of content that is robbing (1:29) so many entrepreneurs' happiness, that is robbing so many entrepreneurs' motivation, (1:37) engagement, focus. So, there are two types of content. Some content is really good for you, (1:46) is very beneficial, you get to learn a lot, you get to gain experiences, but some content (1:54) is just wasting your time, is impacting your mindset, your clarity, your goals, your dreams. (2:02) So, it's super important as entrepreneurs to make sure that and be careful of the type of content (2:10) that you consume, because not all content is good for you. So, this is a very important topic that (2:18) I wanted to talk about, because I believe that so many entrepreneurs, they don't show up to (2:24) their business, to their goals, to their dreams as they supposed to be, or as they should be. (2:31) But, it's because we, so many entrepreneurs, have this bad habit that is impacting our mindset, (2:40) our love for our business, for our future, for our entrepreneurship, is impacting our clarity, (2:48) our motivation, and even happiness. So, stay tuned with me in this episode, so you can learn about (2:57) this bad habit. You see, what ends up happening, unfortunately, with so many entrepreneurs, (3:04) they're constantly focusing on what is lacking, what is missing, what they don't have, what they (3:11) don't own.And I'm talking about this group of entrepreneurs who are at the early stages of (3:18) their entrepreneurship journey. They're just starting out their entrepreneurship journey, (3:26) and they're trying to build a successful business and become successful entrepreneurs (3:32) and breakthrough in their entrepreneurial life. So, so many entrepreneurs, they're focusing on (3:41) what is lacking, what they don't have, what is missing in their entrepreneurship, or when they (3:48) want to build a successful business, when they struggle, when they don't see results, when they (3:53) are not making so much progress, what ends up happening, so many entrepreneurs, they slow down, (4:01) they give up, they delay important work, they get easily distracted, they use so much time on other (4:10) things, but not on their goals, on their business. And this is one of the reasons of this is because (4:18) so many of us, we have this bad habit where we are constantly consuming content on social media (4:26) that is impacting our entrepreneurial journey, that is impacting our goals. I mean, unfortunately, so (4:34) many people out there on social media, they are posting content about their life, about their (4:39) luxury life, about their luxury cars in front of their house, they share content about their luxury (4:48) house, how it how nice it looks, the environment, and living by a beach, and playing around with their (4:57) kids, with their family, and enjoying a nice sunshine weather. They're sharing their jets while (5:05) they're flying, they're sharing their vacations when they're traveling around the world, and they share (5:13) their beach, their apartment, their house, and the luxury life that they are enjoying, that they are (5:24) having. So what ends up happening with so many entrepreneurs, especially the new ones, (5:30) they watch this type of content, and it's just bringing so much misery into their life. (5:37) It's just creating this belief in those entrepreneurs that they lack, they don't (5:44) have what those people do have. They don't own those luxury cars just like those people. (5:54) They don't go on vacations like those. So they're constantly watching this type of content, and it's (6:04) just making them feel depressed, unmotivated, not engaged, and they sometimes they get self-doubts. (6:13) They feel like their business is not going to work, or they're going to fail, or they are not (6:18) meant to be entrepreneurs, or they are not talented enough as those people, or they are not smart (6:24) as those people. So they watch other people's content, and their luxury life, and this (6:34) makes them feel like they're lacking. They don't have what those people have, (6:40) and their business is not working, and they're struggling. So they look at their own life, (6:47) and they say, oh, I don't have that house, that luxury house. They have those luxury cars, (6:55) that Bentley, or Lamborghini, or that Ferrari, or that Rolls-Royce, but I don't have any of that. (7:03) I'm driving just a small ordinary car. That means my life is sucks. That means I have (7:12) very boring life. That means I'm poor. That means I'm broke compared to those people. (7:19) So they watch some entrepreneurs' content flying in a jet, and they tell themselves, oh, I will never (7:27) own a jet in my life, in my future, because I'm driving an ordinary simple car, or I will never (7:36) be able to live by a beach, because I'm living in a small apartment, and it's just like, (7:44) I don't know, 40, or 50, or 60 quarter meters, or they're driving a Rolls-Royce, and I'm driving (7:53) a small ordinary, I don't know, Mazda, or Volvo, or Toyota car. I will never be able to drive a (8:02) Rolls-Royce, just like those people. So this creates a pattern. This is a bad habit. This (8:11) creates a limiting belief. You don't believe in yourself when you are constantly watching others, (8:18) and watching their luxury life. This makes you feel like you're not meant for these things. (8:26) You're not going to own those things. You're not going to enjoy that dream life, unfortunately. (8:34) So many people, they watch other people's content, and they see they have a very big (8:41) wealth, and they look at themselves, oh, I only own, I don't know, a few hundred thousand of (8:48) dollars in my bank account, or I'm eating simple food. I'm looking for special offers when I buy (8:57) clothes. I don't have that dream life.I don't have that luxury life. I don't own as much as (9:04) they own. So unfortunately, when you are watching a content like this, you look at your life, (9:12) and you feel like you have a depressed life. You have a misery life. You have a boring life. (9:18) You have unhealthy life. You have unsuccessful life. So this creates this pattern where you (9:27) wake up every day in the morning, and just focusing on what is missing, what is wrong (9:32) about your entrepreneurial life, what you're lacking, what you don't have, what you don't own, (9:39) and that you're not as smart as those people, and you're not talented as those people, (9:47) and that you're not lucky as those people. So you repeat this pattern. You live with this pattern (9:53) every day, 24 hours a day. This steals your happiness, steals your health, steals your (10:01) clarity, steals your mindset. You're not happy with your own entrepreneurship journey because (10:09) you're watching other people's entrepreneurship journey. You're not happy with your life because (10:15) you're watching other people's luxury life. You're not happy with your family, with your partner, (10:23) because those people, their partners, they're wearing the best clothes, and they have the (10:29) luxury life, and your partner don't. So you're just mixing your own entrepreneurial life with (10:39) other people's entrepreneurial life. You're mixing, you're comparing, you're evaluating, (10:46) you're thinking, you're analyzing, and this creates misery. It creates depression in your life. (10:52) It creates an unhappy, unhealthy life.So that's why so many entrepreneurs won't show up to their (11:00) goals, won't show up to their days. They will not spend enough time focusing on what is important (11:08) or being productive because they tell themselves, well, it doesn't matter what I do. It doesn't (11:13) matter what time I wake up in the morning. It doesn't matter whether I go to the gym or not, (11:19) or it doesn't matter whether if I consume healthy meals or not. It doesn't matter if I work hard or (11:26) not. It doesn't matter if I'm productive or not.It doesn't matter if I'm laser focused or not, (11:31) because look at those people's life, and look at my own entrepreneurial life. (11:38) Look how big a difference. Look how much I'm lacking.Look how far I am from my goals, from (11:47) my dreams. Unfortunately, this is one of the issues that causes this bad habit of looking and (11:55) watching other people's luxury life and comparing yourself. What ends up happening with you is you (12:02) see yourself, you view yourself that you are far away from your goals. You are very far away from (12:09) your dreams. You are very far away from that beach life or that luxury life, and you start to tell (12:17) yourself, oh, it will take me at least 10, 15, or 20 years to be able to build that dream life. (12:27) It will take me so many years of hard work just to own that wealth. So, you see yourself, you're (12:37) far away, and it will take you so many years to earn that life, and then you tell yourself, why (12:45) the hell would I show up to my business if I'm going to have this life in 10 years, in 15 years, (12:51) in 20 years? Why the hell would I work on my habits if this is almost impossible, if it's (13:00) very, very hard to own all those luxuries? So, that's why so many entrepreneurs will fall back (13:08) into their old habits. So many entrepreneurs, they will stop improving. They will stop changing. They (13:15) will stop working on their habits, on their behaviors. They will not show up to their business (13:21) because they tell themselves, well, those people, they have this wonderful, happy, fascinating, (13:28) and luxury life. So, they have the best computer. They have the best devices. They have the best (13:37) workplace. They have the best house or office to work on their business. They have everything (13:45) around them to work on their business. But I don't have. I don't have any of that. So, that means I (13:53) can't work on my business. That means I can't show up to my business like they do. But this is wrong. (14:02) This is false. This is a big mistake that you're making. Trust me.I used to be guilty of this (14:09) habit too. Every day I would wake up in the morning, the first thing I would think and feel (14:14) is lacking, is missing, is how boring my life is, is how broke I am, is how unhealthy I am, (14:23) how unhappy I am. That's what I used to do.I'm so guilty of this habit too because I've (14:32) failed with this so many times. The first thing that comes to my mind was just looking at my life (14:41) and comparing my own life with other people's luxury life and I would tell myself, well, I have (14:48) so damn unhappy life. So, this is a big mistake. This is a bad habit that we should remove it, (14:57) that we should avoid it. Happiness doesn't depend on what you own, what you have. Happiness (15:07) is a natural feeling. You can be happy even though you don't have that luxury boat. You can be happy (15:14) even though you don't own that luxury house. You can decide to be happy, to enjoy and love your (15:21) life, love all your friends, love your business, your entrepreneurship, your goals, your dreams, (15:30) even if you don't own any of that. So, you can wake up in the morning with a vision. You can (15:38) focus on a big vision, on your goals, on your dreams. You can remind yourself about how grateful (15:47) you are, about the people that you have in your life, the health that you have in your life instead (15:54) of watching other people's luxuries. Some of those people who own luxuries, some of them they don't (16:01) have a good health. They are not happy. They are constantly worried. They feel so much (16:08) responsibility in their life because they know they could lose all of that in one day, in one (16:14) month and many entrepreneurs they have done that. They built wealth. It took them so many years to (16:23) build a wealth and then they lost it all. They went broke again. You never know what it could (16:29) happen and you don't know whether those people are happy or not. The people that they're posting (16:36) their life, their luxury life, their luxury cars, house, living by beach or jet on Instagram. You (16:44) don't know if they're happy or not. You don't hear about their problems, about their struggles, (16:50) about their miserable life. So many billionaires are miserable. So many millionaires are unhealthy, (16:58) unhappy in their life. They thought material things will make them happy. They got the material (17:05) things and they found themselves they're still unhappy. So they would have to think and figure (17:12) out some way to make themselves happy and they would wonder what would be making them happy. (17:23) What is next? They got that luxury car. They got that luxury house. What is next? What is (17:32) going to make me happy? I own those luxuries. I became happy but what is next? How am I going to (17:41) be happy again? So I think this is a very bad habit and it's impacting so many entrepreneurs' (17:50) mindset. They stop working. They don't show up to their business. They stop building good habits. (17:58) They fall back into their old habits because they are constantly opening social media platforms (18:04) whether Facebook, Instagram or TikTok and they are watching other people's luxuries. They are (18:11) watching other people's life. How they are living by a beach. How they are playing by a beach. (18:17) Their vacations and once they close down that app, once they leave Instagram or Facebook, (18:26) they look at their life and they just remind themselves about all the negativity. What is (18:33) wrong? All the things that they are lacking. You see some people even if you give them all those (18:41) luxuries, they would still want more. They would still need to find another way to make themselves (18:48) happy. So my best advice for you is to break this habit instead of constantly focusing on what is (18:57) lacking, what is wrong about your life, what you don't have, what you don't own, the success that (19:04) you haven't reached yet. Instead, consume good beneficial content like this one.Watch my content. (19:13) I share tips, strategies, advice, insights, mistakes, failures, things that I have learned (19:22) from my own personal experience that will help you, that will put you on the right direction, (19:28) that will put you on track. Things I shared that I learned from my own life, not so many people (19:36) talk about. This is the type of content that you need to watch, not watching other people's (19:43) luxury life. You don't learn anything if you see someone is driving a Rolls Royce or a Lamborghini. (19:51) What the hell are you learning from that content? What do you gain? Do you gain any insight, (19:57) any strategy, anything beneficial for your life, for your entrepreneurial life? Is it (20:04) helping you? Is it benefiting your dreams, your goals, your vision, your happiness, your success? (20:14) Is it helping you build a successful business? If you watch someone who's riding a boat or flying a (20:23) jet, what are you learning from that content? It's just a waste of time. Those people are sharing (20:31) their luxury life just to tell people that look, look how wonderful my life is and look how (20:39) miserable life you have. Someone who's sharing content about playing by the beach, owning a house (20:49) by a beach is telling you that look, I live by a beach and you live in a simple apartment (20:56) or in a simple house. Look, my life is better than your life.I swear to God, they don't tell you (21:05) this. Obviously, they don't tell you that my life is better than your life, but their content says (21:13) that. Their boring content is telling you that my life is better than your life.I am more (21:23) successful than you. Their content is telling you that I own that beach house and you don't own a (21:32) beach house. You live in a simple apartment or in a simple small house.I own that luxury car and you (21:41) own a simple ordinary car. This is, this is their message. This is what they are trying to tell you (21:47) that I am better than you. Those people who are sharing content about their luxuries, about their (21:55) luxury life, it's telling you that I'm more happier than you. I'm more successful than you. (22:02) My life is better than yours. How the hell would you consume a content like this? Is it making you (22:12) happy? Is it making you more successful? Is their content improving your entrepreneurial life? I (22:20) mean your entrepreneurial life. Is it benefiting you? Is it doing any good for your entrepreneurial (22:28) life, for your future, for your goals? So if you say no to all those questions, that means you (22:36) shouldn't be consuming this type of content. You shouldn't be comparing your own life with their (22:45) lives. You shouldn't watch their luxury lives because it's their life. It's not yours. They (22:54) have their own life. You have your own life. You need to worry about your life, not their life. So (23:05) the reason why I wanted to share this bad habit, because I know so many entrepreneurs, they waste (23:13) so much time and this impacts their clarity, their mindset, how they think, how they feel about their (23:20) goals, about their dreams. The reason why I want to share that because I don't want you to live an (23:27) unhappy, unsuccessful, unhealthy entrepreneurial life. I want you to be more happier, more healthier, (23:34) more laser focused, more productive, more ambitious, more aligned with your goals, with your ambitions. (23:43) I want you to pursue your dreams, regardless how your life looks like.I want you to pursue (23:52) those dreams, those goals, even if you don't own a luxury life yet, but someday you will. (24:00) You see, most of those people, they are not more talented than you. Most of those people who share (24:11) their luxury life as content on social media platform, they are not more talented than you. (24:19) They are not more smarter than you. They are not more luckier than you. I mean, some of those people, (24:27) they have inherited so many of their luxuries. Not all of them, they have built their wealth. (24:35) And some of those people, they are just like you. They started very simple and they worked (24:42) their way. They went through so many struggles, so many problems, so many setbacks, so many (24:51) failures, so many challenges until they were able to build that luxury life. So they're just like (24:58) you. You can do the same too. It's all about how you show up to your business, to your goals, (25:06) to your dreams, to your daily entrepreneurial life and what you do in those days and whether you are (25:13) doing enough or not, whether you're working hard or not. So my best advice for you is to make it (25:22) a habit where you are consuming beneficial content like this one, where you are learning, where you (25:28) are gaining knowledge, where you are gaining experience, where you are benefiting, where you (25:35) are learning something new every day, every week that will help you break through in your business, (25:42) in your entrepreneurial life. You are much closer to your goals, to your dreams than you think. You (25:49) are much closer to your dreams, I promise you, than you think. It's just all about how you show up (25:58) every day. So that's it.I hope you learned something new from this episode. This is a super (26:09) important topic that I want to talk about because I see what is happening on social media and this (26:15) is a bad habit that I used to be guilty of it as well. But later on, after making this mistake, (26:24) I was able to break this bad habit and I was able to train the algorithm of my social media (26:31) where I'm constantly consuming beneficial content.I watch other people's interviews. I (26:37) watch other people's reels. I try to learn.I try to explore new things. I try to (26:47) gain knowledge, gain experience. So please don't forget to follow me on Spotify or iTunes. This is (26:56) where you get weekly episodes, weekly content and I just wish you a wonderful day. Thank you so much (27:05) for watching or listening and I can't wait to publish the next episode. Bye everyone.
