The wages of sin have always been death, but where the Israelites had to pay with sacrifices, God sent His son Jesus to pay for our sins with His life!
Hello and welcome to the Christians of College Campuses Podcast. My name is Will from the University of Oklahoma, and today we are talking about Leviticus chapter 3. So the beginning of Leviticus shows some ritualistic sacrifices that the Israelites had to do in order for them to temporarily cleanse their sins. Now remember, Jesus didn't come to save us from our sins until the New Testament, so the Israelites had to do things a little differently. And that includes giving these sacrifices as acts of sorrow and acts of thanks towards God. If they didn't do that, they wouldn't be, quote unquote, ceremonially unclean, which means that they could not spend time with God, which is the whole reason that they all came together to build the tabernacle in the first place. So the sacrifice talked about in this chapter is an apology to God, a way to become right with him until the next time they send. It says that if you present an animal from the herd as a peace offering to the Lord, it may be a male or a female, but it must have no defects. Lay your hand on the animal's head and slaughter it at the entrance of the tabernacle. Then Aaron's sons, the priests, will splatter its blood against all sides of the altar. The priests must present part of this peace offering as a special gift to the Lord. This includes all the fat around the internal organs, the two kidneys and the fat around them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver. These must be removed with the kidneys, and Aaron's sons will burn them on top of the burnt offering on the wood burning on the altar. It is a special gift, a pleasing aroma to the Lord. If you present an animal from the flock as a peace offering to the Lord, it may be a male or a female, but it must have no defects. If you present a sheep as your offering, bring it to the Lord, lay your hand on its head and slaughter it in front of the tabernacle. Aaron's sons will then splatter the sheep's blood against all sides of the altar. The priest must present the fat of this peace offering as a special gift to the Lord. This includes the fat of the broad tail cut off near the backbone, all the fat around the internal organs, the two kidneys, and the fat around them near the loins, and the long lobe of liver. These must be removed with the kidneys, and the priest will burn them on the altar. It is a special gift of food presented to the Lord. If you present a goat as your offering, bring it to the Lord. Lay your hand on its head and slaughter it in front of the tabernacle. Aaron's sons will then splatter the goat's blood against all sides of the altar. The priest must present part of this offering as a special gift to the Lord. This includes all the fat around the internal organs, the two kidneys and the fat around them near the loins, and the long lobe of the liver. These must be removed with the kidneys, and the priest will burn them on the altar. It is a special gift of food, a pleasing aroma to the Lord. All the fat belongs to the Lord. You must never eat any fat or blood. This is a permanent law for you, and it must be observed from generation to generation wherever you live. We are blessed enough that we don't have to make a blood sacrifice to the Lord. God sent us Jesus his Son, who lived a perfect and sinless life, and then died on the cross to take the punishment of sins away from us. Why did he do this? Because we're God's kids and God wants to spend time with us. Just like God wanted to spend time with the Israelites. The wages of sin was always death, and the Israelites had to pay by doing ritualistic sacrifices like this in front of the tabernacle, but we get it for free. God figured out a way by sending his son Jesus so that we can spend time with him for free, forever and ever. Let's pray. Jesus come here now, and I thank you that we get to spend time with you, and that you want to spend time with us, the creator of the universe, wanting to take the time to be with us personally, every single one of us. That's crazy. That's unheard of. Thank you for sending your son Jesus to pay the pri our price that we owe. We owed, but we don't anymore. And in Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
