Who Dey ALL Dey!!!
Gentlemen, happy April 29th, 2026, and welcome to the Who Day All Day Podcast. I'm your host, Michael Berg, down in southern Arizona, good old Tucson, Arizona, overlooking the Catalina Mountains. A little weather coming in on the campus of University of Arizona. But the draft is done. And more importantly, we've got our boys back with us tonight. Brian, Utah County, how you living?
SPEAKER_00Living great. Glad to hear that you're in uh Tucson, Arizona, watching a little spring football practice, already scouting for the 2027 draft. That's right. Thank you for your diligence and hard work.
SPEAKER_01I'm here. We will leave no stones unturned until we get Lombardi home. Thank you for recognizing that. Brant, Northern Kentucky, how are you doing?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, pumped to be back with you guys. Are you getting more uh intel on Takario Davis and his time when when he was at Arizona? Talking to some of the coaches.
SPEAKER_01Want to make sure I got some of the film broke down. Yeah, guys gonna make the roster.
SPEAKER_02That's the mission, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. All right. Yeah, no, good to be down here. Great to have the draft complete, a lot of good vibes. Man, I I get it. We've asked for a lot, a lot has happened in the last couple weeks. So let's get to it. You all know the drill. We're gonna go four downs. First down, like we said, drafts complete. Want to see how the boys are feeling. Second down, we're gonna talk about our favorite pick, least favorite pick. Uh, third down, still the work is not done. What's next? And then fourth down, we'll talk about Joe Burrow's uh infamous picture slash subliminal message that he put out there on social media. But Brian, kick us off. Drafts done. How are you feeling?
SPEAKER_00Really good. Um, I think I feel like a lot of people where if you kind of break down the draft overall, like the howl pick, he's different than what uh we're used to at defensive end for for the Bengals. Uh the word that keeps getting thrown out there when it comes to howl is juice. We've needed some juice in the pass rush. He's even different than Trey. Uh, and so I think people were excited. And then there were some couple picks in there that uh maybe a little question marks, a little concerns, but they were the Bengals really did themselves a solid and made this draft, you know, at least up front, one of the better ones in in recent memory. Is they it's like the light bulb finally went on. I don't know who poked their head in the door and screamed it, whether it was the you know, Al Golden, he seemed to be very active in in post-draft or the line. Um but I think it's the line coaches. The Bengals addressed all offseason and in the draft they addressed the trenches. Uh getting the best center in the draft when they did, fantastic pick. Parker out of out of from Duke, Cincinnati boy. Uh you know, in his own words, when he got the call from Taylor, bring me home, coach. Uh, he may prove to be the best pick out of this draft. Uh I'm really high on Parker, but I feel I'm really excited about because the Bengals did so solid in the later rounds, it don't you don't have to love it, but you can maybe get excited and be optimistic about you know the col the Colby pick. There's there's obvious concerns there with that with that young man, but if you were to say, Oh, he's not talented, then then you're you're not paying attention. He's uber talented. Uh so he's getting a shot. I'm excited. I'm excited for this draft. I think uh I'm really excited to see how look, I don't think it's a hot take to say that he might lead the team in sacks this year.
SPEAKER_01I like that. I like the foreshadowing, the positive energy, and especially to get that from a second round pick. Uh, I was listening to the NFL radio guys today driving around, and one guy was giving a lot of love to the Bengals and brought up Brian Parker and said, How is this guy available this late in the draft? This guy should have been drafted much earlier. So, yeah, a lot of work. The three of us always scream and yell at these fifth, sixth, seventh round picks because there's still talent to be grabbed, and we finally freaking grabbed it. Brandt.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so I love a lot of the points that Brian made. Uh, I think I'll build off of that. I think overall, if I had to give a draft grade, I'm somewhere. If you're not considering Dex, sexy Dexy as part of the draft, I'm probably in like a B minus to B range, somewhere in there in terms of what I would grade it. Uh, just going through the picks really quickly, like Cassius Howe. Uh I love the pick because it's just so you know out of the ordinary for what we usually target at that edge position. Yes. And I think, like Brian said, the juice that he's gonna bring, uh, the production. We usually pick traits over per production, especially at edge, and then especially lately. So it's it's it's awesome to see them go a different route here. And he gives us a little bit of a flavor off the edge that we don't we don't have on this team. Uh and I guess my my theme for the Bengals would be I love the way they drafted overall, but it's really hard to predict anymore what the heck they're gonna do. Because I could have told you probably they're gonna fall in love with certain guys in years past, and they're just gonna kind of stick to those guys, very similar to what happened last year, but going after Cassius Howe, getting a great value there, in my opinion, and then you get great value in Parker, you get great value in Lou, Landon Robinson, and then Enries. It's like they're drawing, they're drafting at the top of the consensus board. You're like, who is this team? Yes, but then they take you know Tac Davis, who I like, I see what they're trying to do, and I do like some of what he brings, but a lot of a lot of traits, right? And then the same thing with you know the wide receiver from Georgia, Colby. A lot more traits, not as much production. So they're they're kind of going back and forth on the philosophy there. It's just super interesting. Maybe it's for next year, keeping people off balance a little bit on what they're gonna do. I don't know, but uh overall, really happy with the draft. Uh you guys know I'm a draft geek, just like you guys, and it it made day three super fun. Yes, seeing who they went with and made it worthwhile waiting around for that seventh round. Uh, and it didn't disappoint. So really happy overall.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely love that and agree. And I and fans, again, I get it. You're always focused on the first, second round pick. You're you're focused on the big names, the superstars. I will tell you, first round picks only make up 13% of rosters in the NFL. The rest of the roster matters, and that's what this team we had to get back to was drafting well late. So Brand, second down, who's your favorite pick, least favorite.
SPEAKER_02You guys could probably guess this one, but uh we saved the best for last. Pick number 226. And uh, if you didn't get to watch the draft, I'd highly recommend see if you can find this clip out there because I wasn't, I couldn't remember, but the 226 pick is the Pat Tillman pick. And so they did a lot of uh honoring Pat Tillman, uh, and then just Landon Robinson, the defensive tackle out of Navy being the pick, just made it that much sweeter uh with that specific pick. So uh why I love Landon so so much and what he can bring to this Bengals team, uh you know, a lot like Cassius Howe, but the juice that he could bring from the inside, specifically like his get off, his get off, you know, in the middle of the field, you know, as a defensive tackle. I know he's a little small, he's six foot, 287, 290, kind of hovers around there, but he I hopefully will bring some pass rush juice from that three-tech that we really haven't had from a developmental standpoint. Uh, you know, there's there's clips out there. You see him standing next to Aaron Donald getting some getting coached up. They're about the same size, they're not, it's it's not very different. I'm not saying that. I'm not going that far. But he plays with a ton of strength. He's a great character, kid. Uh you know he's gonna give you everything he's got. Yep, and he he produced at Navy. I think he ended up being the defensive player of the year in the American.
SPEAKER_01That amazing.
SPEAKER_02Just just a stud of a of a player. What a pick in the seventh round. And you know, I already alluded to this before we jumped on, but my last point about why I like him so much is I think he's actually gonna contribute on special teams for you. So I think he will bring extra value, not just as a defensive tackle or developmental guy, but I think he a guy that's gonna push to get on the field and help you on special teams. Least favorite, that type of player. So, least favorite, I'm gonna go with Tac Davis, uh, also known as Bobo out there. Uh, I actually like Bobo in terms of it. I'll tell you what, if you're telling me you I get a 6'4, 200-pound corner that can play outside, press man, I'm happy. I I guess I where I would be a little unhappy is based off consensus board. We we kind of reached on him. I think he would have probably been there in the fourth somewhere. Uh, maybe not. I know Daniel Jeremiah had him pretty high. Uh, but I I just his lack of production uh over the like the last two years since he I well he went to Washington this past year, but you know, we're kind of going off what he produced three two two and a half, three years ago now. Uh I'm hoping he finds that form, but I really see why we would target him with the big receivers that are in the AFC North now. So I understand the pick.
SPEAKER_01If we can keep, and like you said, if he can play with Dax and DJ and learn with those guys, uh that could be something super special for him down the line. Brian.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh I'll give you I will give you name, Brent, as far as Robinson and the computer because yeah, there's only one Aaron Donald. But I the guy that I think he can be if and and if he can get to this level, it'd be pretty exciting is uh Kalijah Cancy from Tampa. Oh, yeah. 23-4, that guy had seven and a half sacks rushing from the inside, they're about the same size. Well that a lot of use rely on the get-off. So um, but as far as my favorite put pick, I'm gonna go back to to Connor Lou from Auburn. And the reason why I love the pick so much is because not only is he talented, he the only reason why he was there in the fourth round is because you know he tore his ACL in October. Um, but it's a forward-thinking pick. Generally, what happens with the Bengals is a guy like Ted Karras has a down year this year, kind of falls off, and then you've painted yourself into a corner that you have to either sign or draft a center. Usually draft and you're banking on a rookie to protect Joe Burrow and hoping like heck that he's that he's at the level that Ted was at one point. By bringing in Lou now, he can get healthy. At some point, he'll be at practices. You can start to get a feel for what this guy brings to the table. And as early as 2027, he could be fighting for a starting job, or you know, uh, he's not who we thought he was. Now we got we have to go a different route. But I love that it was Ford thinking. I think he's extremely talented, I think he is the the center of the future. Um, I love that we have our offensive line is building and it's and it's still young. Um, as far as uh least favorite pick, I'm gonna agree with Brant. It's it's Tac Davis, and it's not so much him, it's who was on the board uh at corner. Uh I would have I I believe McCoy was still there. Uh I would have I would have taken if he wasn't, I would have taken the chance if he wasn't. He's there because he was the first pick on the third day. The other guy that I would that I would have loved, um, and I thought we were looking more for a true nickel, uh, is Keontae Scott from Miami. Yeah. Um and I really and I wanted him not only because he can play football, but because he's got he's got that dog mentality, is why I wanted him. Um like Brant said, Davis has the traits. He if uh you know high upside is he can be the good version of Reek uh Reek Wilson, um, who was in Seattle. And and Brent's right, that's that is a D that is a DK Metcalf pick. It's a tight end, it's a tight end covering the tight end kind of pick. And if it and I think Al wants to be versatile with these guys, and if he uses them right and he does the job well, uh, you know, at worst, if he's uh if Bengals fans, if you remember Trey Flowers, that Super Bowl year, he he did a great job. Even on Hall of Famer Travis Kelsey, he did a great made it hard at least. And so I think that's what we're looking for.
SPEAKER_01You know, with with Connor Lou at such a great point, and if you watched Auburn games, they were very competitive until he got hurt, and that entire offensive line fell apart. And another of his teammates even got drafted. But that offense, he was such an anchor there. I love the forward thinking on that with with Bobo for for both of you, and I've got to find it and I'll bring it back up. But there was a stat of two of the best corners that have come out in the last year or two, and he's in that category when it comes to measurables, performance. And so there's there's some opportunity and some upside there. I agree. I mean, I'm sorry, Keontae Scott would have been my pick, no matter all the great things that you just talked about with Bobo, but I would have gone Keontae Scott uh because of what I saw on the field. But my favorite pick is sexy dexie. We did something that we've talked about the scenario for years, and the Bengals did it. The comments, the tweets, the social media two Saturdays ago, Sunday of fans being like, wait, what? Wait, we did that? The Bengals did that. Uh we all need to send a thank you note to Joe Burrow. I know we love Burrow, but Burrow making it very clear to the franchise, your effort on building the defense has not been good enough. You fix that, we can rock and roll. And I give, I can't believe it. I don't think it's Duke. I think Duke has always wanted to do stuff like this, and I think that's why you're seeing a snarky face by him. I think it's been Katie Blackburn, those purse strings and deciding and debating, but I think they also have some other things on the docket to bring more money in at the bottom line for the Bengals family. So I'll definitely go sexy dexty. Fourth round, I'll pick the easy one. Uh, I'll pick the wide receiver from Georgia. Look, I'm not saying that he's not talented. Uh Colby Young, he's got all the measurables. But we just went through this with Jermaine Burton. Okay. I want to be proved wrong. And I think one of you two texted and it was so great. Mike Brown wants to save everybody. This team's not about saving. This team is about winning Super Bowls today. I'm hoping I am so wrong on this. But a fourth round pick, a lot of those guys you just mentioned were still there. And we went Colby Young. Kid, you better step up and you better perform and you better prove all of us wrong because we need you. We need that third receiver, we need that weapon, that crazy mismatch. But third down, Brian, draft's done. A lot of great stuff, a lot of great momentum. But what is next for our Cincinnati Bengals?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there's a there. If we're gonna be proactive and and really go from like, oh, the Bengals are starting to look like a Super Bowl can't contender to being that Super Bowl contender, there's things that are left to do. Uh the the obvious one is to restructure Joe Burrow and free up some free up the cap space to at the very least go get I would and I I would either say, I mean, it could be definitely these positions, but one of these two guys get either Bobby Wagner or Joey Bosa in the building. I think there's enough money there with Joe that you could actually do both. The the stretch that I would really love is to add a third and add Juwan Jennings, but I that would also take probably Jamar and and T restructuring as well. Uh, I don't see that happening this offseason, but if it does, uh great. And I'll just leave so there's there's still things to do. The thing I think the Bengals want to have most of this stuff done before camp, but I also think, and I've I actually feel like they've done a decent job with this in the years past, is they're also going to be willing to wait and look to see who's cut um and and add pieces, you know. A guy like uh there's guys like Eric Armstead that have been mentioned that that may be a cap casualty, adding guys like that, veterans that are chasing the ring, so to speak. Uh I'm all for it. So I'm excited to see it's gonna be a fun summer, it's gonna be a fun spring and a fun summer. I'm gonna give you a name that's not a player who I actually think is making the biggest difference in the front office, and I think they're letting him do his job, and that is Trey Brown. His official title is assistant GM. And I think he and Duke are the two that are in sync in that front office and are linked at the hip. That guy plays the quiet, stern game, but he he's got an act for recognizing talent. He's the one guy in the building that can do it, and he and he he is pushing because he knows that there's three guys in the building that are at a different level than the rest of the NFL. And so you got to strike while it's hot. And that's Joe and Jamar and T. Got to take advantage of it.
SPEAKER_01Great shout out and such a great point. You're starting to see a couple conversations come out. I know people are still talking about the size of our draft and our scouting staff, but the fact that they're being listened to and used, I think it's a big difference. Brant.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I just want to hit on that point that Brian just made because I it really does make me wonder if if things did change a little bit this year just with the way that they drafted and taking the value that that that they had at, you know, basically right at their right at their fingertips, you know, on day three, which just hasn't been how they approach things, right? We're always kind of uh I feel like in in years past, we're really targeting a lot of special teams uh, you know, holes and trying to fill those fill those gaps wherever we can. So it's a really interesting uh, you know, did Trey Brown, did Duke maybe have the leash kind of loosened a little bit and they could do a little bit more? Uh I'd love to know, be a fly on that wall, but don't know if that'll ever happen. Uh so finishing up uh what's next? Man, uh linebacker. I think I just keep coming back to linebacker. Like to I, you know, and the word on the street is they tried to add maybe a couple guys that they really targeted in free agency, it just didn't didn't fall, you know, didn't uh pan out the way they wanted, you know, and it and it's a you know it takes two to tango, right? Like they gotta want to come here as well. So uh, but not to get somebody in the draft was a little surprising. So, like Brian said, I think they're gonna be really probably scouring the uh waiver wire if it gets closer to the season to see if there's a linebacker that maybe gets cut. Uh, I'll give you one name. Uh, you guys have probably seen it, but the guy I'd probably be calling about right now and just kind of dangling a little bit of a carrot would be Jordan Brooks down in Miami. Oh, love. Because they drafted Rodriguez. Yes. And you gotta think they probably want to get Rodriguez on the field as quick as possible to help with this kind of restart and rebuild that they got going on down in Miami. And uh Brooks only has one year left on his contract. So I think he'd be perfect trade bait. What they're gonna want for him, uh hard to say, but I don't think it would take that much. And uh, you know, adding him to the middle of the the you know, in the middle of your defense would be uh just a really solid move to kind of shore everything up. So would love that move. And then like Brian said, uh restructuring Burrow, let's add some money and maybe go add a guy or two.
SPEAKER_01I absolutely love that move with Jordan Brooks, and you're so right. To find these teams that are, let's say, rebuilding or motivated to play the young guys and where that will capitalize. Because while they still believe in Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter, clearly by not bringing anybody in, I think they do want somebody like Burks. They were hoping that he would be last year for this group. And I agree. I think that there's somebody out there that uh that they can go after. You talked earlier before we jumped on uh you guys about Miles Murphy and figuring out what to do with him and his money. I think it's pretty clear. The Bengals are pretty funny when you look at their social media and uh the things that they highlight and focus, they usually don't promote and market guys that they're not gonna keep long term, if you've ever noticed. And Miles Murphy is on a lot of that stuff, and so I think hopefully they're gonna figure something out with that. Um, but Burrow freeing up cap two things. One, not only does it allow us to keep shopping now, but it signals that Burrow's in it for the long haul and not looking to get out of town. And I think that's a big deal. I think I think the vibe has totally changed, which leads to fourth down. Classic picture came out. Good old Joe Burrow and his subliminal messages got better. It's him, Gasecki, T. Higgins, Jamar Chase. Look like the uh football training version of the hangover of those guys hanging out together.
SPEAKER_02I was just about to say that.
SPEAKER_01Uh, but I think that was his subliminal way of saying, you complete me, Duke. You you got me. I'm back on board. Let's get this thing done. But, Brandt, your thoughts on that picture and what did that reckon or like symbolize to you when you saw that?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you took the words right out of my head. I was trying to think of the movie real quick, and then you know, you you said it. I was like, this is the hangover all over again, it's just the football version, right? So uh, you know, I I think the vibes are high, right? I think the the boys are feeling good. They're like, we got a defense now. Yes, and as soon as they they saw this, the draft is over. We got some pass rush, added cash as how they're like, we gotta go practice, we're gonna put up points, and the other team's not gonna have as many. So uh, you know, getting Gesicki out there, I think that's so cool. Like Mike G being out there with the with the guys throwing the ball around that high school uh out there in California. Uh Joe's been spent a lot of time in LA, fellas. So I was I'm I've been really surprised by that a little bit, but uh, you know, just getting together for the weekend. I it sounded like they got uh two days worth of work in Friday and Saturday night, or Friday and Saturday morning, I think it was. Uh you know, what better times can you have? Like when you're in the NFL, get a little work in, you're out in LA, go hang out after you get your practice in. Uh, you know, I I just love that they're hanging out, building that bond, you know, getting the chemistry right, the timing is down. The offense should should pick up just where they left off. So, you know, can't beat it. Love the picture. Just cap off a great weekend.
SPEAKER_01You know, it it brought back that football's fun again, and that's what the the fans have been looking forward to. They want to support that and get behind that. Brian.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's uh, you know, it's an it's an April workout with with the boys, but the thing that I actually like about it, like if we're gonna if we're gonna read into this and and get ex like get excited about the picture, it's actually for me, it's actually Mike Geseckki. Uh and the reason is is if you remember, he started last year and hurt, and so it took him a while to get on the field. And then late in the season, he we started to see the second why we re-signed him. Um I think that guy feels like he had a disappointing year last season last year, a lot was left on the table, and he I think Goseki feels like he can be that X factor. You know, when teams are are doubling both Jamar and T, we're kind of all waiting on a on a third actual receiver. I think Goseki's the one that's saying you don't need it because I'm here and I'm open. And I love it. I love that he throws himself in there with the group. Um but yeah, just honing their craft that the you know those those four kind of leading the charge that it's time to go to work. We're starting to put the pieces in place. Let's go to work.
SPEAKER_02I think he was working on that gritty. Had to be working on the gritty.
SPEAKER_00I think he was working on the sexy dexie. Oh, yeah, there you go.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, they had them both. I mean, look, he has it down so he can teach Gasecki. And I'm sure Uno's giving him crap for his gritty so he can help him out. Joe, even I thought Joe's was way smoother than uh than Gasecki's. Can we talk about how look, Jamar is out of this world talented? He looks ridiculously ripped. I don't know if you've seen some of the pictures, like he's an awesome athlete, obviously, but he looks insanely ripped. That guy, big year about locking and loading. Look, when they have those NFL film videos and they go back to where it all started with these championship teams, it's pictures like that that goes back to these are the good old days. Fans enjoy it. The draft, not perfect, but it was so much more better on helping build a championship team. Let's stop looking at the little things that aren't right and let's start enjoying what this is. These are the golden ages of Cincinnati Bengals fanhood. Enjoy it. The boys are enjoying it, they're gonna be ready. Quick schedule. Phase one, first day, that started April. Rookie mini camp is uh first week of May. OTAs into June. They go away for a couple weeks, and all of a sudden we're at training camp, fellas. It's gonna be a fun, fast spring and summer. You both are the best. Great to catch up. Congratulations on the killer draft. You both knocked it out of the park and houday all day. Houday all day.
