This episode is deeply personal. As we prepare for my son Bryce’s graduation, I’ve found myself reflecting on the many lessons he’s taught me—lessons that go far beyond parenting.
I always say that entrepreneurship and leadership mirror life, and this season with Bryce has reminded me just how true that is. From trusting God when the path is unclear to choosing discipline over motivation, I’m sharing five powerful lessons that have shaped not just how I parent, but how I lead my team and run my business.
Whether you’re a parent, an entrepreneur, or someone simply trying to live with more purpose and alignment—you’ll take something meaningful from this conversation.
Inside this episode, I cover:
- Why faith over fear is a game-changer in both parenting and entrepreneurship.
- How real leadership shows up when no one’s watching.
- The importance of staying coachable and disciplined, especially under pressure.
- Why your circle will make or break your momentum.
- How staying grounded in your values can guide you through criticism and tough choices.

Welcome back to another episode of the Raquel show, where we talk about playing bigger in business and life and in the legacy we leave behind. Today's episode is super personal and you know, I share things on my podcast that I don't normally share on social and I truly appreciate your messages, your shares, because it lets me know for whatever reason this episode or an episode resonated with you and it keeps me going. And as I record this,
Raquel Quinet (01:32.336)
we are preparing for Bryce's graduation. And this week I have been doing a lot of reflecting. We spend so much of our time as parents trying to teach our kids lessons, but we don't always realize how much they end up teaching us, teaching us about leadership, teaching us about life and even entrepreneurship. So in honor of graduation season, I wanted to share with you some of the most powerful lessons I've learned from Bryce.
Raquel Quinet (02:02.235)
that not only has shaped me as a mom, but deeply have impacted how I run my business, how I lead the team and how I live my life. Whether you are a parent, a leader or building a brand, you will take something powerful from this episode. So let's dive in. Lesson number one. This is one of the biggest themes in Bryce's journey, which is trust God and have faith over fear.
Raquel Quinet (02:30.673)
From navigating the unknowns of college recruiting to managing pressure from all different directions, I've watched him lean into faith, not fear. He taught me what it looks like to trust God even when the plan isn't clear, to surrender the need to control every outcome and to stop sweating the small stuff that won't even matter five years from now. And it's a question I ask myself when I'm battling with something
Raquel Quinet (02:57.487)
is, will this matter in five years?
Raquel Quinet (03:01.711)
And the entrepreneurship lesson is fear will always try to hijack the journey, but faith builds the vision. And when you're grounded in something greater, you move with conviction even through uncertainty. Lesson number two is be a leader even when no one is watching. Bryce doesn't just show up when the spotlight is on. He shows up when no one's clapping.
Raquel Quinet (03:27.654)
It's in quiet moments, the off season training, the extra reps and the unseen effort that true leadership is built. What stood out most wasn't how he acted on game day, it's how he carried himself every single day. And the entrepreneurship lesson is real leadership isn't about titles, it isn't
Raquel Quinet (03:47.379)
about applause, it's about how you show up even when no one is looking.
Raquel Quinet (03:52.591)
your integrity, your consistency, and your energy speaks volumes. And lesson number three is go after your goals, have discipline over motivation. One of the things I've admired most about Bryce throughout his journey, especially through this last year of high pressure games, being coached by his father, campus visits, and scholarship offers is his ability to stay coachable.
Raquel Quinet (04:21.713)
Whether it was feedback from a new trainer, tough love from his dad or his coach, or even advice from me, he never shut it down. He didn't make it personal. He didn't let ego block his growth. He received feedback, processed it, and then did something with it. And that right there is rare because
Raquel Quinet (04:45.922)
let's be honest, most people don't want the feedback. They want validation.
Raquel Quinet (04:51.942)
But the fastest way to elevate in business and in life is to stay open, to stay flexible, to stay teachable, to stay a student, even when you are winning. And the entrepreneurship lesson is the best leaders are students first. They don't ever outgrow mentorship and you lean into it even more when the stakes get higher. And lesson number four is your circle matters. I've watched Bryce become more intentional with
Raquel Quinet (05:21.276)
who he allows in his world on and off the court. He's had teammates that pushed him, coaches that believed in him before the winds even showed up, and friends that kept him grounded when things started to move fast. He had friends that rooted for him, and friends, believe it or not, that weren't really friends that became jealous or tried to tear him down, but he always knew who his guys were. And I realized he was curating
Raquel Quinet (05:50.426)
his environment, not just for popularity, but for growth. And that's a move most adults, even in today, struggle with. But Bryce, he's living proof that your circle either sharpens your edge or dulls your drive. And the entrepreneurship lesson is who you are around is either fueling or draining your growth. And if you want next level results, your circle
Raquel Quinet (06:19.728)
needs to be audited because energy does not lie. Surround yourself with winners, not just in results, but in mindset, in discipline, in integrity, because your future will always reflect your five closest influence. And lesson number five is stay rooted in your values. This one hit me the most during the hard times. When Bryce didn't get the outcome he wanted after a game, when the critics had something to stay online,
Raquel Quinet (06:48.186)
when families even had opinions, when Bryce chose basketball or when he would be doing basketball and football. Guess what? People said, you're doing way too much. I would often as a parent get the comment, don't you think you're putting too much on your kids? When the pressure to choose school got loud, everyone had an opinion. And believe me, when I tell you, everyone had an opinion.
Raquel Quinet (07:15.376)
He never got lost in who he was. He always stayed grounded. He stayed respectful. He was always humbled and he was focused. He reminded me that character doesn't waiver just because your circumstances do. And that's the kind of man he's becoming and the kind of leader I try to be. And the entrepreneurship lesson is when your values are clear, decisions get easier.
Raquel Quinet (07:40.942)
It's not about reacting to what's happening. It's about responding in alignment with who you are and what you stand for. And in business and just like in life, your values are your anchor. They protect you from the pressure. They keep you from chasing the things that aren't meant for you. And so to wrap this all up, Bryce taught me the lessons of number one, faith over fear. Number two is be a leader.
Raquel Quinet (08:09.444)
even when nobody's watching. Number three is discipline over motivation. Number four is your circle matters and number five, stay rooted in your values. So here's my question for all of you, my friends. Who's teaching you right now? It might be a coach, it might be a mentor, it might be a child, it might be your team, it might even be your client. Sometimes the biggest lessons come from the most unexpected places.
Raquel Quinet (08:38.308)
Bryce, I want to say thank you for being one of my greatest teachers and to all the parents out there and to all the business owners navigating through seasons of change and to someone that's building something meaningful. This journey, I promise you is a gift lead with faith, lead with discipline and lead with integrity. And if today's episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear from you.
