Everyone Wants the Opportunity… Few Are Ready for the Responsibility
So many entrepreneurs tell me, "If I just had the right opportunity, everything would change." I used to think the same — until I realized that opportunity without readiness can actually crush you.
In this episode, I’m getting real about what it really takes to step into the next level of your life and business — and keep it. I share a personal story about being offered a massive leadership role at 26, and the weight that came with that title.
💡 3 Takeaways I unpack in this episode:
- Responsibility is the price of the room. Everyone wants the spotlight — but few are ready to be seen when it's messy.
- Power grows with ownership. If you want more control, take full responsibility for your energy, results, and mindset.
- Say yes, then grow into it. Growth doesn’t come before the big leap — it happens because of it.
If you've been waiting for the "right moment" — this episode is your wake-up call. You don’t need more time. You need more ownership.
🎧 Tune in now and start becoming the person who’s ready before the opportunity shows up.

Hey friends, welcome back to the Raquel show. This podcast is for entrepreneurs who want to play bigger in business and in life. And whether you are on a walk, driving to a showing or listening in between meetings or even at the gym, I just want to say thank you for pressing play today. This episode is for those of you who keep saying Raquel, if I just had the right opportunity, everything would change. And believe me, I get it.
We all want that big break, that moment, that opportunity that opens the door. But what most people don't realize is with opportunity comes responsibility. And I'm gonna say that again, with opportunity comes responsibility. And if you're not prepared for the weight that comes with the win and the sacrifices, you might get the opportunity, but you won't be able to keep it. So let's dive into it.
Let me take you back to when I first moved here to Arizona from California. I was 26 years old, a new mom with Bryce, and I didn't have a huge network. I wasn't known here. And honestly, I didn't even know what was next, but I got offered a massive opportunity to become the CEO of a brokerage. Now on paper, that may sound amazing, right? Especially at such a young age of 26.
But what people didn't see was the pressure that actually came with it. I can tell you during those days, I cried so many times. There were days that I wanted to quit. I took a huge pay cut to run a brokerage. I went from running a real estate team in California and a mortgage company generating multiple seven figures. And I remember telling my mentor the money they just offered me.
as a salary was the amount of money I made in high school selling cell phones for tech companies. And I remember I was leading during a market crash. I had to manage agents twice my age. I didn't really know anyone. I was responsible for the growth, for the production, for the retention, for the culture, and plain and simple for survival. I remember coming home one night just completely exhausted, my mind racing.
and asking myself, did I make the right decision? Did I say yes too soon? And the truth is opportunity looks so glamorous from the outside, but on the inside, it demands another level of you. And I learned something in that season that I've never forgotten. Don't just ask for the opportunity, ask to be strong enough to carry the weight of it. That moment changed me. It made me lead differently.
care differently. And most importantly, it made me take responsibility for my next level. We live in a world that glorifies the prize, but rarely talks about the pressure that comes with it. We see the wins, we see the accolades, we see the GC eyes, we see the stage, the followers, the incomes, but behind every opportunity is someone who said yes to the responsibility.
Yes to the responsibility of building their own business. Yes to the responsibility of building their own team, building their own company, expanding to multiple companies. They just didn't get lucky. They were ready for the responsibility that came with it. And if they weren't, they were ready to at least endure it and learn through it. And that's what I want to talk about today because too often we say, I just need a mentor.
I just need a break. I just need the right system. I just need maybe the right team. But we don't look in the mirror and ask, am I willing to take full ownership of what happens next? Let me tell you something real. You don't rise to the opportunity. You rise to the level of your responsibility. You want to be in a big room? Be ready for big expectations. You want the next level?
it's going to demand the next level version of you. This isn't to scare you. This is to wake you up. This is to help you step into the version of yourself who can actually hold the success you are looking for. So I want to break it down to three powerful truths. Takeaway number one is responsibility is the price of the room. Everyone wants a seat at the table.
but not everyone is ready for the weight that comes with it. Being in the room or what I like to say, being in the arena means you're responsible for your actions and how you show up. You are responsible for your impact and you're responsible for the people watching you. But before you chase visibility, I want you to ask yourself, am I ready to be seen even when it's not perfect?
Takeaway number two is what you're responsible for. gain power over responsibility. Isn't just about obligation. It's about power. And when you take responsibility for your mindset, you start controlling your energy. And when you take responsibility for your numbers or your business, you stop guessing and start scaling. And when you take responsibility for your results, guess what? You become unstoppable victims. Wait, leaders move.
So stop saying, I'm waiting for the right moment. Start saying, I'm becoming the person who's ready when it comes. And takeaway number three is say yes, then grow into it. my gosh, have I done this plenty of times? There is no such thing to being fully ready because you grow into your yes. Every major opportunity I've taken, I didn't feel ready, but I said yes.
And then I figured it out. Sometimes your growth won't happen before the decision. It'll happen because of the decision. Opportunity stretches you. Responsibility matures you. And that's the gift most people miss. So here's what I want you to ask yourself today. Where are you craving opportunity?
but resisting the responsibility that comes with it. Where are you waiting to be chosen instead of choosing to step up? What's one thing you can take full ownership of this week, not next month, not when it's easier, but this week? Because here's what I know. The people that lead movements, who change our industry, who build empires,
aren't the ones who had the most opportunity. They're just the ones who were the most responsible with what they were given and you are capable of being one of them. I want to thank you all for listening to another quick no fluff episode of the Raquel show. hope today's conversation gave you some momentum you need to move forward with confidence. I'm sending you all the love.
for the week ahead. So I want you to go after those big goals.
