Courage Is the Shortcut: Why Playing It Safe Keeps You Stuck
Courage isn’t about waiting until fear disappears—it’s about moving forward while it’s still there. In this episode of The Raquel Show, I share what courage, strength, and grace really look like—not in the big, flashy moments, but in the quiet decisions that shape your life and business.
I open up about a recent event that hit close to home, and how witnessing true courage and grace inspired me to reflect on what it means to bet on yourself, even when the outcome is uncertain. If you’ve ever found yourself waiting for the “perfect moment,” this episode is your reminder that courage compounds—and every bold move builds momentum.
Things I Cover in This Episode:
- Why courage isn’t about being fearless, but about trusting yourself.
- How to shift from “What if I fail?” to “What if I win?”
- The framework I use to lead with courage, strength, and grace.
- Real examples of betting on yourself before you’re fully ready.
- How grace makes you magnetic as a leader and entrepreneur.
My challenge for you: Where in your business do you need to stop waiting and finally bet on yourself?
✨ If this episode resonates with you, share it with a friend who needs the reminder, subscribe so you never miss a moment, and let’s keep playing bigger—together.

Courage, my friends, isn't about waiting until the fear goes away. It's about deciding to move forward while the fear is still there. Courage is less about the outcome and more about the decision to trust yourself. Every bold move, I'll tell you, compounds. Each time that you bet on yourself, you build the muscle to keep doing it.
Welcome back to The Raquel Show. This show is for entrepreneurs who want to Play Bigger in business and in life and I am always so grateful that you are here with me today. You know, there's been a lot happening in the world lately and sometimes the headlines hit closer to home than we'd like. And I'll never forget when my son, Brexton came home sharing the news of a shooting.
And while I don't usually watch TV or get caught up in politics, this one felt a little different. The incident involving Charlie Kirk wasn't just about politics. It's a reminder of how divided we have become as a country. And I don't really care what side you're on because I have friends on both sides. But more than that, it was a reminder of how much we need love, and faith at the center of everything we do. And it hit me deeply because it wasn't far away. It was right here in our own community.
His wife even went to Notre Dame Prep, the same school where Bryce graduated from. Watching her display, let me tell you, courage, strength, and grace through such a painful and unimaginable moment was one of the most powerful examples of leadership I have ever witnessed. Her ability to forgive at a memorial and to show love in the face of hurt stopped me in my tracks.
It made me reflect on what is courage really about? What does it look like? And that's what I want to talk about today. The courage to bet on yourself. The strength to keep moving even when things are uncertain and the grace to do it in a way that inspires millions of people or just even one more person.
And if you've ever stepped into entrepreneurship or taken a leap of faith, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Courage, my friends, is a decision and strength. It often shows up not in the loud, bold moments, but in the quiet, graceful ones where you keep moving forward, even when it's so much easier to back down. So courage, my friends, isn't about waiting until the fear goes away. It's about deciding to move forward while the fear is still there.
Think about the last big decision you've made in your business. Did you know a hundred percent certainty? That it was going to work out? Probably not. But you chose to bet on yourself anyways. And here's what I've learned is courage is less about the outcome and more about the decision to trust yourself. Every bold move I'll tell you compounds. Each time that you bet on yourself, you built the muscle to keep doing it. Courage, my friends, creates momentum.
Waiting creates regrets as entrepreneurs. We don't have guarantees. We have decisions, everyday decisions to make. And when you bet on yourself, you invest in your growth before you even feel ready. You say yes to the opportunities that stretch you. And boy, have I been saying yes to a lot of opportunities that have stretched me way out of my comfort zone. And you take action when others are just waiting for the perfect moment or waiting for certainty.
You know, there were times where we launched a program where we bought an investment or we hired a team member before we even had it all figured out. Matter of fact, as I'm recording this podcast, I have an interview scheduled for somebody to come on our team. The payoff that came because I chose courage over comfort. can't even tell you.
And here's the shift. Instead of asking, what if I fail or what if I lose or what if it's a bad investment? Start asking, what if I win? What if this decision changes everything? And let me tell you, strength isn't just about pushing through. True strength is often paired with grace. It's how you handle challenges when things don't always go your way. It's about choosing to lead with calm, even when pressure is so heavy.
And trust me, that is a constant thing that I personally work on. And here's what strength with grace looks like. Not snapping under pressure, but showing empathy while staying firm. Taking the hit when things are falling apart. Taking the hit on rejection, taking the no's and choosing to respond and not react. Standing tall when people are watching and when even nobody is watching. And here's the beautiful thing.
Grace doesn't make you weaker. It makes you more magnetic. People are drawn to leaders who have the courage to take big swings, the strength to endure setbacks and the grace to do it all without losing who they are.
And I want to leave you, of course, with a framework that you can apply this week.
- Number one is decide stop waiting for certainty, choose to move even when you don't have all the answers.
- Two is I want you to bet on yourself. I want you to invest the time, invest the money, invest the energy where it matters most. And if you've always been thinking about, Hey, I want to hire you Raquel as a coach or I want to get into your mastermind or I want to get into your program. This might be your sign.
- And three is I want you to stand when challenges hit. Stand firm. This is where strength shows up.
- And number four, grace handle wins and losses with grace. Don't let the pressure make you lose sight of your values. This isn't about being fearless. It's about being courageous in spite of fear.
So my challenge for you this week is where in your business do you need a bet on yourself? Where have you been waiting for certainty that you actually need courage. And how can you approach the next tough situation with both strength and grace? Remember, courage is a decision. You don't need talent to have courage. You don't need experience to have courage. Courage, my friends, is a decision. Betting on yourself is a decision.
And when you combine it with strength and grace, you don't just win in business, you actually win at life. And if this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend who needs the reminder to keep moving forward. I want to thank you all for hanging out with me on another quick, no fluff episode.
