Why Experience Pays for Itself in Coaching, Hiring, and Scaling
In this episode, I dive deep into one of the most important principles that changed the trajectory of my business and life: nothing beats experience. I share why trying to figure it all out on your own is actually the slowest and most expensive route you can take—and how paying for expertise through a coach, consultant, or the right hire can collapse time, save energy, and accelerate results.
👉 Things I Cover in This Episode:
- Why “buying back time” through experience is the smartest investment you can make
- The costly mistake of going cheap with hiring (and how it keeps entrepreneurs stuck)
- My 4-step framework for betting on experience: Decide, Invest, Implement, Accelerate
- How I personally applied this in my own business by hiring a coach who helped me simplify and scale
- The difference between knowledge and implementation—and why the latter is the real game-changer
If you’ve ever felt like you’re spinning your wheels, stuck in trial-and-error, or frustrated with slow progress, this episode is your shortcut.

What would change if you borrowed somebody else's experience or expertise through coaching or hiring instead of wasting your time reinventing the wheel? And what's one bold investment you can make in yourself or on your team right now that will accelerate your goals? Remember, nothing beats experience, whether it's hiring the right person, finding the right mentor or coach or investing, it is always the best investment.
Welcome back to The Raquel Show. This show is for entrepreneurs who want to play bigger in business and in life. And I got to thinking nothing beats experience. You can't buy back time, but what you can do is pay for experience. And when you do, you get the shortcut. You grow faster, you scale smarter, and you avoid mistakes that cost you money, energy, and peace of mind.
I was reminded of this last week as I flew down to meet our new clients and sat in their EOS session. Within minutes of watching their leadership team, I could see exactly what helped them scale so fast and exactly what caused them to stay stuck. Now, you couldn't learn this from a book, a YouTube video, or a master class. The only reason I'm able to spot these things so quickly and why people hire me is because I've lived it.
That's what experience gives you. And today I want to talk to you about why paying for experience or expertise is the smartest decision you can make as an entrepreneur, a real estate agent, and why implementation is key to results and how betting on yourself is always the best investment. So here's the truth. You can try to figure it out all on your own, can Google things, you can watch YouTube videos, you can see things on social, but let me tell you, it will cost you. It will cost you time, years of trial and error. It'll cost you money, mistakes that you could have avoided, and it'll cost you energy. The burnout that comes from spinning your wheels over and over and over again. But when you pay for experience, whether it's a coach, a consultant or a mentor, you collapse time. You get access to somebody's years of wins, of failures and lessons learned. And that's exactly when agents, teams or companies get stuck. I get the phone call, Raquel, I need your help. I need you to coach me. I need you to coach us. I need you to coach our leadership team.
And sometimes I get, just need to hire you. What will it take for you to help us grow this company? Because they realize experience is not an expense. It's a shortcut. And here's what I notice. People who are absolutely serious about making their goals or their vision or reality are willing to pay for experience. They invest in the guidance, they invest in the coaching and they invest in the frameworks. But that's the first part. The second part is implementation. You can have all the knowledge in the world. You can get all the advice. You can get all the consulting, but if you do not implement, guess what? Nothing changes. Think about it. You can read about lead gen all day, but until you pick up the phone, your pipeline will not grow. You can hire the best coach in the world, but if you do not,
Implement and take the steps they've laid out you're going to stay exactly where you are because experience plus implementation equals acceleration I'm going to say that again when you have experience plus implementation it equals acceleration and it's not just about coaching this principle shows up everywhere even in hiring. Too often I see entrepreneurs go the cheaper route, the cheaper option, the assistant who's never supported a top producer before, the marketer who's brand new, the operations lead who's still learning the basic, and they wonder why they're so frustrated. They wonder why they're so stuck. And trust me, I've been there too. But as I've matured in business, I've gotten better at hiring.
I've gotten better at asking questions. I've gotten better at interview and I just don't fall in love with what they put out, what they say on the interview. I go through a series of things to make sure that they are experienced or they can fit into our fast paced environment because here's the reality: Nothing beats experience when you're building a team. Yes. You will pay more for someone who's done it before because the return of that investment is speed is efficiency is fewer mistakes. When you hire experienced people, you do not need to micromanage them.
They don't need you to train on every single detail from scratch. Like this is how you use Trello. This is how you use Google docs. You hit file and then open and all of your SLPs are not written that way. What you get when you hire somebody experience is they bring in systems, they'll tell you ideas, they'll give you even solutions that you may not even see yet. And when leaders are willing to pay more for experience, whether it's a COO, a chief of staff, a marketing director, or even hire their first EA, their business will move faster because experience lowers risk and it also saves you years of frustration.
So whether you're hiring a coach or you're bringing the right people onto your team, the principle is still the same experience collapses time, my friends. And here's a simple way to think about it. Cause you know, I love framework.
So I'm going to give you a framework for betting on experience.
- Number one is decide, stop trying to do it all alone, make the decision to seek experience.
- Number two is invest, pay for the expertise, whether it's a coach or a key hire, it's the fastest way to lower your risk and speed up the results.
- And number three is I want you to implement. Don't just learn apply every insight and hire should translate into action.
- And number four is accelerate. Watch how much faster you hit your goals when you collapse time with experience.
I can tell you firsthand, I just hired a new business coach who's had multiple exits. And when we were talking about our coaching business, he said, you've got to simplify. You also have to have a floor. And it was really hard for me to make that decision of what we were going to cut off going into 2026, but it took somebody on the outside saying there's too many focuses, too many distraction. Pick one. This isn't about skipping the hard work. It's about doing the right work faster.
So my friends, here's my challenge for you this week is where are you trying to figure it out all on your own? What would change if you borrowed somebody else's experience or expertise through coaching or hiring instead of wasting your time reinventing the wheel? And what's one bold investment you can make in yourself or on your team right now that will accelerate your goals. Remember, nothing beats experience.
Whether it's hiring the right person, finding the right mentor or coach or investing, it is always the best investment. If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend who needs to hear the reminder and tag me at @itsraquelq on IG so I can celebrate you.
