How to Get the Most Out of a Coaching Session
You can hire the best coach, join the most elite mastermind, and sit in every single training out there — but if you don’t know how to get the most out of it, you’ll miss the transformation that was meant for you. If you’ve ever wondered why some people seem to grow so much faster — this episode will reveal the real difference between those who succeed and those who don’t.

Welcome back to another episode of The Raquel Show.
This show is for entrepreneurs who want to play bigger in business and in life. And I just want to say thank you because you found your way here, whether it's your first episode or your hundredth episode. I am so grateful you press play. And because this podcast isn't just about business growth, it's about personal evolution. It's about leading with heart. It's about creating with purpose and remembering that alignment always, always, always beats hustle.
Now let's talk about something that can truly change the trajectory of your business. And that's coaching. You can hire the best coach out there. You can join the most elite mastermind. You can even join the most expensive mastermind and sit in every single training that comes across your email or on social media. But if you don't know how to get the most out of it, trust me, you will miss the transformation that was meant for you.
So today, I want to unpack what makes a powerful coaching relationship work. Whether you're currently in a program, you're in a challenge, you're thinking about hiring a coach or you're coaching others yourself or even mentoring others yourself.
This episode might help you show up differently and get real results. So I remember the first time I invested in a high level coach.
It was one of the biggest checks I had ever written for my personal growth. And honestly, I thought, okay, this is it. I'm going to get this magic secret formula. They're going to tell me everything. But the first session hit me hard. My coach, believe it or not, did not give me a roadmap. He asked me a ton of questions that made me super uncomfortable. Questions that exposed how I was actually leading, how I was hiring, how I was thinking, how I was creating, how I was actually leading my agents and sometimes avoiding. And I realized something, coaching doesn't work because someone gives you all the answers. It works because someone helps you see yourself clearly enough to make better decisions. That's when everything shifted.
Once I started showing up differently, I was ready, I was open, and I was willing to be coached. And that's when the real breakthroughs started happening, my friends. And as someone who now coaches hundreds of top producing agents and entrepreneurs across North America, I see the same thing every single day. The ones who grow the fastest, believe it or not, aren't always the most talented. The ones that are the most coachable and they execute quickly are the ones that get the most out of coaching.
So I want to break it down into three parts.
Wrote down number one preparation, how you show up to coaching absolutely matters. Number two is participation. What you do inside of that session matters. And number three, integration. What happens after the call is by far the most important.
So let's start with phase number one, which is preparation. How you actually show up. Coaching starts before the call ever begins. I know I surprised some of you guys, right? Coaching starts before the call ever begins. If you want to get the most out of your sessions, you can't show up reactive. You have to show up ready. It's why all of our private clients that we coach today have customized forms depending on the results they're looking for. So I want you to ask yourself, what's the number one challenge or decision I need clarity right now for my business? Number two is what progress have I made since our last call? And I want to hear about the wins. want to hear about the losses and the challenges because
Sometimes when you say that to your coach, they can see patterns. They can actually see what's going on. And then where am I stuck or have I taken ownership of it? So come with all the wins, come with all the data, come with all the obstacles, come with all the challenges and not just stories and emotions. Because when you show up with clarity, your coach can help you make quantum leaps, not just small tweaks and they can actually provide resources and connections. can tell you every time I do a coaching call, I can tell you how prepared they are within the first couple of seconds.
Now phase two is participation. This is where the magic happens, but only and only if you're open. A great coaching session requires honesty, vulnerability, and humility. It's easy to want validation. It's easy to share all the wins and get the good job, I'm proud of you, atta boy, atta girl. But growth comes from the truth. And sometimes that truth can challenge your habits, it can challenge your mindset, and it can challenge your comfort zones. And here's what I tell my clients, don't come to be right, come to be real. When you get defensive, you block progress. When you stop tuning out because you're on your phone, I can always tell.
Right? When they start tuning out or they're on their phone because there's another deal, that means they haven't treated their coaching call as the most important call. It's almost like a business or an advisory call, a board meeting call that someone is actually looking at your business. It might be the thing that unlocks you to the next level. So it's a time to lean in in your coaching calls. When you allow feedback to land, that's when the breakthroughs happen. And don't rush the conversation. It's not about how many topics or how many questions you can cover. It's about the quality of the insight that you gain for what you need to move forward. Sometimes just one powerful question can change the entire business trajectory.
And phase three, of course, is integration. What separates my average clients from extraordinary ones isn't what happens on the call. It's what they do after the call. Implementation and execution is everything because your coach can tell you all the things to do, give you all the systems, even brainstorm with you during the coaching calls. But if you don't ever execute and you don't ever implement, guess what? We're back to square one. So after every session, I always tell my clients, try to block out 30 minutes to just debrief. What did I learn? What stood out? Look at your notes. What are my top three action items? And what did I commit to getting done before my next session?
Then I want you to look at your calendar. I want you to schedule time in your week to execute and literally block it in your calendar. Don't just let your notes collect digital dust or don't write notes and never look at them. I'll tell you, my clients who perform, and I mean like top, top, top performers, they will start executing right after that call. They will start delegating even sometimes in that call because they're like, this is too good. We need to put dates to it. We need to go and move.
So here's the truth. Transformation doesn't happen in the coaching call. It happens in the follow through. Yes, a light bulb can happen in the coaching call, but I'll tell you the true transformation happens in follow through. So here's what I want you to think about as you're listening to this episode and maybe reflect on this week. How are you showing up to your current coaching or mentorship relationships or even sometimes these free zoom calls and challenges?
Are you preparing with intention or are you reacting in the moment? And then are you open to actually being challenged or are you just looking for confirmation? Are you implementing consistently or are you waiting for motivation to strike? And here's one bonus as I always like to throw these bonuses is if I started treating my coaching relationship like a hundred thousand dollar investment, how would you show up differently?
You know, that question alone can change the energy you bring to every conversation. I know this personally because I had a business coach that I paid $100,000 for a year, but I'll tell you it 10x my return in less than a year. So if this episode resonated with you and you're realizing you're ready to show up differently in your next season, then I want to invite you to our Agent CEO Accelerator. It's where coaching actually meets execution, where we block out time every other week. We build systems, we build machines, visibility, and we even talk about wealth while helping you become the CEO of your business, the CEO that your business actually needs.
And if you're ready for clarity, accountability, and next level growth, DM the word "AgentCEO" on Instagram at @itsraquelq. And I'd love to get you more information because the right coaching relationship doesn't just grow your business, it grows you.
And here's the truth, a great coach can help you see what you can't see for yourself. They will see your blind spots. They also can see your potential, but a great student, a great coaching client, that's one who takes what's given and multiplies it. So wherever you're at in your journey, remember this coaching isn't about being told what to do. It's about becoming who you're meant to be. I want to thank you for tuning into another quick episode of the Raquel show. And if you're ready to go deeper on clarity and systems and growth, I want you to check out www.LetsPlayBigger.com and until next time, keep taking bold action, stay coachable, and always, always, always Play Bigger, my friends.
