Episode 22: NOLA DNA
On this special episode recorded in New Orleans, Joseph Makkos of NOLA DNA discusses his historical newspaper archive.
Joseph Makkos is a printmaker & archivist from New Orleans who salvages old letterpresses and boxes of rare type, working to keep them accessible and put into use during modern times.
In 2013, Joseph acquired a collection of roughly 30,000 original papers from the Daily-Picayune & Times-Picayune dating 1888 to end of 1929, likely the most complete physical collection of this era. He created the organization NOLA DNA to support the continued legacy of these papers.
