Hey Charles McCullough talking with uh superstar head coach and uh girls athletic coordinator over at Clearbrook High School and Clearbrook volleyball coach Meredith Thompson. Hey coach, man, every year is a new challenge. Uh you but you make a championship caliber team by teaching these kids. It's fundamental. So what has been your mission statement all along with the uh Lady Wolverines?
SPEAKER_01Well, I guess this year is get better every day, and I mean try your hardest and never give up.
SPEAKER_00That's something that you uh learned to do a long time ago when you played for the Clear Creek Lady Wildcats, but it really wasn't that long ago, 1995 season. Hey, uh you and Shannon played on that team. Uh, what were your positions? And did y'all y'all had to interact obviously in the same rotation in volleyball?
SPEAKER_01Uh I was a setter, and Shannon was an outside hitter, six rotation player. So good on defense. I mean, if it was anywhere near me or her, I was letting her take it so then I could go set.
SPEAKER_00And I bet you had to dig up a more than a few two.
SPEAKER_01Oh, of course, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And little Kinsey number one. Now she's an outstanding defensive specialist too. Did you teach her coming up?
SPEAKER_01Actually, she's setting for me this year. Yeah, so a a little bit. She wasn't as into volleyball until these recent years. Uh, but yeah, I stay on her. I teach her a few things.
SPEAKER_00How long have you been over at Brook now?
SPEAKER_01Oh, my 25th year, I think, maybe. That was my first job coming out of college.
SPEAKER_00Man, that reminds me Willie Shackeral was over there around that time, and that seems like yesterday, but boy, howdy, uh, it's time moves on, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_01Yes, it does. Yeah, he was there and I started way back in 02.
SPEAKER_00And I believe even Coach Pam Crawford was there.
SPEAKER_01Yes, sir. She hired me.
SPEAKER_00Wow. Hey, Meredith Thompson, coach, but you oversee the athletics program overall. I'm talking about girls' basketball, we're talking about girls' water polo, we're talking about aquatics. That's a big responsibility. A lot of people don't understand how uh uh impactful that is on your time and all the responsibilities you have.
SPEAKER_01Oh, sure, yeah. Um there mostly as a support system for all of those other programs.
SPEAKER_00Hey coach, well, um let's uh have a really good uh competitive match tonight. You got some good girls that are showing up to play and do their best all the time. Under Coach uh Meredith Thompson's just uh attitude of just get in the grind and keep at it, and and good things are gonna happen one way or the other.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely, and I try to get them to believe in themselves, um, going into every single game.
SPEAKER_00I know that's right. You're doing that tonight all the time, too. What an honor to talk with you, coach. You're getting younger, and all the just from in the world in helping me out.
