Come to Me and Drink
Come to Me and Drink
John 7:37-39
There is no substitute for contentment in Christ. When Jesus Christ is our pursuit, He leaves our hearts so satisfied that we don’t need anything else. To those who thirst, Jesus says, “come to me and drink.” Whoever drinks of the water that Jesus gives will never thirst again (Jn. 4:14). As Augustine once said, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”
John 7:37-39– 37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Take Home Message: There is no substitute for contentment in Christ.
Contentment in Christ flows from…
Running to Him first.
- Jn. 7:37– On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.”
Trusting in Him alone.
- Jn. 7:38– “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
Being filled with the Spirit.
- Jn. 7:39– Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”
