I Pick the US and Canada Men's Olympic Hockey Rosters

I was up in the middle of the night messing around with what I think the US and Canada rosters will look like and decided to record it.

Everybody else was kind of doing I thought I'd throw my hat in the night and I got nothing I was going to try and come up Canada Olympic rosters for Uh, I'm gonna start with us. We have the six players already named, uh, the Chuck brothers, Auston Matthews, Eichel, Quinn Hughes, Charlie McAvoy already been named, uh, I'm using puck pedia. If you guys have never used it, like, build a team. I can also use it to, like, pretend to make trades and stuff like that. It's real cool. Uh, little thing to you. So I thought I'd use that as a think it's going to look like, talk my way through it. Uh, I'm going to start with, I are for sure going to make it, is going to make it because one game right now, so I think he's Definitely think Dylan Larkin Uh. I also think that. I think Brock Faber and Jake locks, but I'm gonna kind of Uh, I think Jack Hughes definitely makes it because obviously one of the best players. So I'm sure he'll make it. Um, I'm kind of going through I know it wasn't a Four Nations. I don't know why, but I'm sure of the best goal scorers in Uh, so I don't know how they Uh, kind of skipping through Anybody else that jumps out as that will make it. Um, Jacob Slavin, one of the I think he definitely is in Uh, and let's see, I think that Jumps out. All the guys that I can think of Alright, so we've got, uh, seven We'll do goalies at the end. Um, just to keep them separate and not worry about that, uh, quite yet. Uh, okay. So let's look at defensemen. Uh, Hughes, McAvoy, Werenski and I think those are all pretty Uh, so we can do here is we can defensemen and kind of see who going to make it. Like I said, I think, um, Brock Faber makes it one of the top defensemen. Uh, he's actually also Quinn So probably keep that together. I think Jake Anderson makes it, uh, because he is a just awesome defenseman. It's been great there with defenseman, and that gives us that are out there. Uh, and I think they're allowed people are doing these rosters that are there. I think that they'll probably more righties, because why not? Good to have people on their Uh, I know Adam Fox is a popular Seth Jones has been getting because he's having a really And honestly, you could have the Seth Jones Zach Werenski pair back together like they were in Columbus for a long time and were awesome and did it some of the other international events like that. John Carlson's another really I think to be in there because there in Washington. Uh. To me. I don't think there's anybody else that really jumps out as a oh yeah, he's definitely somebody that you want to have out there as one of the top defensemen, uh, to have, because that's kind of what you wind up with on these with these teams is, you know, you don't need to have anybody that's you already have people that are going to be like our power play guys, top guys, guys that can run a power play and stuff like that and run a PK. All these guys can, they're all Um, so yeah, I do think Adam And honestly, I think Seth Jones I think that's I think that's total that make it. All right. So then looking at your forwards, um, who else do I think is a pretty shoo in to get it? I think Jake Gensel is definitely going to be back there. He was great in four nations. Um, he has something a little Being kind of like a net guy. Net front guy for the team. So I think he makes that. Let's see who else. Who else? Uh, I think Cole Caufield is a Um. Brock Nelson possibly. Maybe Matthew Knies like, pretty strong options. I think TJ Thompson is a strong So kind of what I do now for We've got I mean everybody's a But I think that this probably Maybe somebody else like a J.T. Miller or something makes it. And I've got four wingers. So you've really got four or Uh, so what I'm going to do is This is how I will handle Um, is go through and sort by goals for the US. They're going to make it. And that's because look at that. I forgot about Matthew Boldy I don't know how this default sorts guys. So I like to do that to kind of see if there's somebody that I'm missing. I'm also going to tick on NHL only guys because they're not taking any college kids or minor leaguers. They're just not. Um, yeah, definitely. They're taking Matthew Boldy. That guy is awesome. I don't know if they're taking He's really good. But he didn't do a lot in Four And honestly, they didn't really So I don't know if there's some him a lot or not. That would be a reason to not So I'm not sure. Uh, a lot of good options on I'm going to do a similar thing guys, see who else. I don't think they take Alex Uh. He's good. He's a good offensive player. His defense is not great. And honestly, they don't need More people are just pure goal They got a lot of guys that can Um, so I don't think they take Uh, Trevor Zegras possibly. Possibly because he's something I have a really good year in Maybe, uh, Cole Caufield. I would see, like, I would take him over a guy like Debrincat, uh, because I think he is a better pure goal scorer than Debrincat is. Um, so if you're looking at look at from that aspect. Uh, that that could do that. Uh. Who else? Oh, the Lane Hudson debate for if he would go make it from defense. I just don't think so. I mean, he's really good. He's a really good offensive He's a very, I think, mediocre He's fine. But when you look at the other think he'd play. I think he'd he'd be the last Um, I don't need to put anybody That's an offensive guy, so I Uh, let's see who else I'm going to say TJ Thompson, because I know he was one of the last cuts previously. And because he can play center Um, I also think they take having a good year in Toronto. Uh, he does play well with Matthews if they want to put him with that. And he's a big dude. And I think they want more big that that's what Canada's going have big guys. So I think they take him as Uh, and then you kind of look down here and I'm going to tentatively put together kind of some lines that I think, you know, kind of make sense for players. And the only reason I'm doing that for me is to kind of put in my head around kind of what I think, uh, they might do kind of what I think guys would be good at. And what what's missing, uh, for Um. And when I put lines together, I always think of I've heard a lot of coaches say this, and it's for years and years and years I've heard coaches talk about this. And this is where my head always needs to have a guy that can shoot the puck, and a guy that Obviously, these are all stud but everybody kind of has a main part, like one big attribute. But you also you have to have each thing, somebody that can do So, like Auston Matthews. Yes, he can carry a puck. Yes, he can go get a puck. But he's a guy that shoots the That's really what he does. Uh, but then you look like on And Jack Eichel, he's a guy that He's also a guy that can shoot But then someone like a Brady, puck, but he's definitely a guy And Matthew Tkachuk is but he can also shoot the puck. So you kind of hopefully that That's kind of how you put this, And I think when doing something like this, you kind of start putting some stuff together that gives you an idea of what else you might be looking for besides just picking like the absolute best guys. You know, just picking guys that are like all stars, you know, instead of picking just like whoever the top goal scorers are or something. Uh, so yeah, I think that makes You know, something like this, That the Dylan Larkin line is that's going to be a little bit Um, if you do have Jack, you Um, you're Dylan Larkin. Lines probably going to be that. So maybe, you know, you do Something like that. And then you need kind of two better defensive guys that are a little bit more defensive forwards, possibly, um, plus another extra player, um, for there. So kind of more defensive guys. I mean, that would definitely be Um, he's a great defensive forward that you could put in there. And he can kind of move up and Uh, so that's a possibility. Uh, we do other things where I see who other names we have. I think Troy Terry would be a Yeah, I, uh. I think Clayton Keller. I think I think I would name him Um, he can kind of play that two Cutter Gauthier. Uh, another thing to look at Olympic teams, what they do is to maybe not play or maybe play experience so that in four that have already made the team of redo the whole roster. So sometimes they name guys, uh, So that's why somebody like a only twenty four. Cutter Gauthier, that's twenty Uh, it would be good choices, um, as well, for making making a team. Uh, let's see, let's see who Um, man, I, I love Connor Garland, but I don't think he's making it. Ah! Yeah. Ryan Leonard's having a nice I don't think he's making it so So two more. Two more guys. Um, this is where you could Miller. I just don't I don't know. I, I didn't I didn't feel he had I don't think he was a great I don't know if it's just having a good year, or if maybe wall with the age thing. So he's a possibility, but I I just don't I don't see him Uh, I'm going to go. I think Cole Caufield, uh, just guy that can score a goal at an overtime or something like that, definitely that guy. And then one more forward to put Um. I mean, you could have Will another kid on there. I mean, he's he's doing awesome Um. Not going to have a Chris I mean, Frank is already another really good young player to have in there. Kiefer Sherwood. I'm going to I'm going to put Kyle Conner back on that roster there. And so I think what you wind up Is something like this. And let's look at goalies real which I think will be pretty So three goalies. Uh, that you have. I think it's definitely Connor He's the best goalie in the game hundred percent there. Uh, Jake Oettinger, who's game is there. And. Then your third goal, you go So I say you kind of look at go with a. A swayman again, uh, there, which he's having a And could go with, uh, yeah. This bossy kid in Carolina, Spencer Knight for a young kid, goalie is not playing. More than likely. Uh, so you could have one of And if you have one of these you know, they're getting gain years, they're probably your I think that's kind of the Uh, versus taking a Jeremy Swayman because they have very, very comparable numbers, uh, to him. Uh, actually, Spencer Knight's numbers are a little bit better for some of the, you know, the generic goals against save percentage. Uh, so, you know, I think you your third goalie. So I think there you go. I think that's, uh, I think I think that's what you got. So, uh, knives. Matthews. Boldy. Eichel. Caufield. Larkin. Keller. Robertson. Hughes. Gensel. Connor. Thompson. Uh, then you have Hughes, McAvoy, Werenski, Faber, Slavin, Fox, Sanderson and Jones on the blue line. Then Hellebuyck, Oettinger and Yeah, I think that's your, uh, Kind of something like this for I would say uh, you know, a lot You have extra centers, you have guys you can swap around for whatever, uh, something similar ish. You know, on defense, I mean, around if you want to do. Jones. Werenski together. If you want to have Hughes and Faber and then you have McAvoy, Slavin, something like that, you know, slide around, uh, guys like that. But yeah, I think that's, that's that is my somewhat poorly educated guess on what a team excuse me, team USA roster might look like. All right. Going over to Team Canada Reinhart McDavid point in Crosby That's who's already named to So let's see. Kind of do the same thing we did Pick kind of some. Yeah. No crap. They're going to make it obvious Uh, so definitely I mean Mitch There's there's no world. He does not make it. Um. Who else is a no no? Crap. Of course they're going to make Uh. Let's see. Let's see. I mean, Sam Bennett probably. But I think there is a a case and like, a Tom Wilson makes it. Maybe Sam Bennett doesn't Uh, I think Nick Suzuki for sure Dude's awesome. He's shown he's a great He's also a pretty good two way I think he definitely makes it, Let's see who else sticks out Uh, Seth Jarvis for sure makes it, uh, Devin Taves makes it because he's a great defensive guy. And him and Mikah are amazing not going to mess that up. I think Colton Parayko makes it defenseman out there. I think Brandon Hagel makes it, uh, because Cooper loves that guy. Uh, and he's the coach. And so I think he definitely I think it was Casey who made the same reason. Okay. Same thing for it did for us. Kind of look at big goal Morgan Geekie there's a good He makes it. He said I think Marchand makes Um, I think Wyatt Johnson's got Uh, then you get the Celebrini Bo Horvat I'm gonna go right I think Celebrini makes it. Um, unlike Bedard, he's healthy, which is a huge thing, and we know that Crosby loves him and obviously that that's a huge, huge thing out there to have him. And the kid looks great. I mean, he's he's a great two I think he makes it whether or not he plays or not, I don't know, but I think he definitely makes it. Uh, who else in here? I think Tom Wilson makes it. I think he's more of a lock than Just because I think that they Nations, uh, because he is a he is a good offensive guy. I mean, he can do kind of years, he's he's really turned old school style power forward. So I think he definitely makes Uh, who else do we see here that Uh, I think Anthony Santilli is young guy to make it, uh, maybe because he's having a really And I'm sure in four years he'll Uh, okay. The goals. Guys, let's look at some assist If there's anybody else that And points guys. Yeah I mean I think I think also make it then. Uh, for sure. And this gives us like a Uh, forwards here. So let's try and start kind of. Seeing what we got. Does this give us this cover the whole thing up that gives you everything. That's everybody. That's all the forwards. So yeah, uh, that would be all Um. Yeah, I'm comfortable with I think that that makes sense. I think Bedard had a good chance Uh, but then he got hurt, so I. I think him getting hurt kind of takes him out of the running, unfortunately. So I don't think he makes it. But yeah, I think that's a good Now we need D. So now we have So let's pick some other going to make it. I don't think Evan Bouchard many defensive mistakes to to think they can I don't think he I don't care who he's with. I don't think he is. He's great on offense, but so It's not head and shoulders so I don't think he does, but I think Jakob Chychrun does as Uh, I do think there's a good with what he's doing. Uh, right now, Noah Dobson as Um. Thomas Harley, I mean, he He really, uh, was Osman for Kind of saved the day there in But I think Drew Doughty makes I do, I think they take him to Been through everything, seen it I mean, that's that's six guys I don't know if Doty, uh, I know if he plays every game, but I think having him around is something that they would like to have. So. Yeah. Uh, let's look at plus minus. We also got anybody plus minus Um. No, no not really. So I do I do think Schaefer Uh, I don't think he plays, honestly, I think he is the eighth defenseman, but I think he's there. Um, I don't think they'd be think he's, uh, out there. I think he's on the roster, um, be there in four years. And like I said, I don't think has to play. Uh, not not at all. And I feel like I'm missing I feel like I'm missing another Um, but just kind of jumping around from, like, looking at stats. Uh, that's kind of the only way I can do it here and see if there's anybody that I'm missing. It's not jumping out to me, but somebody else that I should be Um. Oh, Shea. Theodore. Yeah. Uh, I think kind of between Noah I think that would be a, uh, an Shea Theodore I think over Noah So I think that'd be your. Yeah, I think they'd be all your And then you need some goalies. Uh, so let's see, let's look at make it, um. Let's see, I think Logan Thompson for sure makes it because I think he's having the best year of any of the goalies right now. I think he for sure makes it, Possibly Scott Wedgewood, Um, I do think that Jordan I know he's not having a good terrible in front of him. And I think just because of how how he comes up in big games think he does make it. And then I think this is like my I think they take a young I think they take some a young I had them taking Spencer I think they take a young kid think that they take, because I awesome year and is kind of I think they take Jet Greaves from Columbus to be the third goalie. Uh, he's was really great last He's having a really good year team, and he gives them another of sit and be the third guy. So I think that's it. I think that's the the Canada So you got Hagel, McKinnon, Reinhart, Marner, McDavid, Marchand, Crosby, point, Wilson, Johnston, Suzuki, Jarvis, Celebrini, Scheifele. And then on D Tavs, M Akar, Chychrun, Schafer, Theodore, and Greaves in goal. Yeah, I think I think I'm comfortable with that, I like that, I think that's what you go with. I think that gives you a lot of Um, I think that's a stronger roster than they took the Four Nations. I think it's a little bit, uh, better two way team than they had there. A little bit, a little bit which I think will help against their biggest opponent. All right. There you go.
