One day, a little girl named Amelia was doing some colouring in her room. Now, she was colouring in some beautiful pictures, and as she coloured, she could hear a noise rummaging through the corner of her room.
Tiger PowNah, it's not this one. What about this? Oh no, it's not that one either.
SamShe started to look around to see where the noise was coming from. That's when she noticed a tiny little tiger that was going through the box of pencils in the corner of her room.
AmeliaUm, excuse me,
Meeting The Talking Pencil
Samsaid Amelia. The tiger turned around.
Tiger PowOh, hi, I didn't see you there.
AmeliaUm, what are you doing in my pencils?
Tiger PowWell, I've actually lost my favourite pencil and I can't find it anywhere. I was just checking to see if it was in your colouring pencils.
AmeliaWell, why would it be in my colouring pencils?
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowI don't know. I've checked five houses already and it wasn't in them either.
AmeliaWell, have you been in any of these houses before?
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowNo, but isn't this where colouring pencils live?
AmeliaWell, this is where my colouring pencils live,
Samsaid Amelia.
AmeliaBut it wouldn't be where yours live.
Tiger PowWell, mine live in lots of places.
AmeliaWhat do you mean they live in lots of places?
Tiger PowWell it depends what kind of mood they're in.
AmeliaMood?
Samsaid Amelia.
AmeliaPencils don't have moods.
Tiger PowMine do,
Samsaid the little tiger.
AmeliaWho- who are you?
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowMy name is Tiger Pow! And I like doing colouring and- and my pencils are extra special.
AmeliaHow are they extra special?
PencilWe can talk,
Samsaid a voice.
AmeliaWho said that?
Samsaid Amelia.
PencilI did.
SamTiger Pow pulled one of the pencils out of his pocket and held it up.
PencilHello!
Samsaid the pencil.
AmeliaUm, that's a- that's a talking pencil,
Samsaid Amelia.
PencilI know!
Samsaid the pencil.
PencilI like to talk. Do you like to talk?
AmeliaUm, y-yes,
Samsaid Amelia.
PencilAnd I can talk by talking, and I can talk by writing. Watch this!
SamThe pencil jumped out of Tiger Pow's hand, went down to the piece of paper that Amelia was next to, and wrote the word hello.
AmeliaUm, this is very strange,
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowYeah, I know, but I've lost my favourite pencil.
PencilI thought I was your favourite.
Tiger PowWell, you're all my favourites, but if you don't have all of them, someone's missing, and I'm very worried,
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
AmeliaSo, you thought that your pencil might have come here and climbed in with my pencils?
Tiger PowUm, yeah, it's always a chance,
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
PencilYes, there's always lots of chance,
Samsaid the pencil that he was holding.
AmeliaWell, okay. I think we need to go find your pencil,
Samsaid Amelia.
AmeliaI'll just go ask my mum.
The Messy Room Mystery
SamSo Amelia went into the other room.
AmeliaUm, mum, do you mind if I go help a tiger named Tiger Pow find his favourite pencil?
MumOf course!
Samsaid her mum.
MumThat'll be fine.
SamShe went back in and started talking to Tiger Pow again.
AmeliaMum said it's fine.
Tiger PowHooray!
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
Tiger PowSo let's go find my pencil!
SamTiger Pow jumped out the window of her room. Then he stuck his head back in.
Tiger PowUm, where should we start?
AmeliaWell,
Samsaid Amelia,
AmeliaI find when I've lost things, the best place to start is the last place I remember seeing them.
Tiger PowOh, well that was in my bedroom! Alright. Well, I guess we're going to my house!
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
Tiger PowCome on!
SamThis time he jumped out the window and began to fly.
AmeliaUm, how are you flying?
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowOh yeah, I've got a superhero cape that helps me be able to fly. Do you want one?
AmeliaUm, okay,
Samshe said. Tiger Pow gave her a cape and put it around her neck. With that, Amelia lifted up into the air.
Tiger PowCome on!
Samshe said.
PencilLet's go!
Samsaid the pencil. And with that, Tiger Pow, Amelia, and the pencil all flew into the air. Well, the pencil didn't fly. Tiger Pow put it back in his pocket, and they sailed off into the air, all the way to Tiger Pow's house. When they flew in the window, the room was a complete mess.
AmeliaSomebody's destroyed your bedroom!
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowUm, no,
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
Tiger PowThis is kind of just how it is a lot of the time.
AmeliaWhat?
Samsaid Amelia.
Following Green Cheeky Clues
AmeliaHow can you know that your pencil's lost and just not under all of this somewhere?
Tiger PowOh, that's a good idea,
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
PencilMaybe we should clean your room,
Samsaid the pencil.
Tiger PowUm, alright,
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
Tiger PowI'll start.
SamTiger Pow started diving into the toys and all the things on his floor and throwing them in every direction.
AmeliaThat's not cleaning!
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowOh, well, I'm not really good at cleaning. Uh, can you help me?
AmeliaSure,
Samsaid Amelia. So Amelia helped Tiger Pow find all the places for his toys. They put them back on shelves and back in boxes until the room was almost completely clean. They looked around.
AmeliaNo pencil here,
Samsaid Amelia.
PencilYes, no pencil- No, hang on, I'm a pencil!
Samsaid the pencil.
AmeliaWell, n-no pencil apart from you,
Samsaid Amelia.
PencilHaha, okay.
Tiger PowWell, well what do we do now?
AmeliaWe look for clues,
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowOh, what kind of clues?
AmeliaI don't know,
Samsaid Amelia.
AmeliaBut maybe we'll know when we see it.
SamSo, Tiger Pow, Amelia, and the one pencil that Tiger Pow still had started looking around the room. Until-
AmeliaLook!
Samsaid Amelia.
AmeliaWhat colour was that pencil?
Tiger PowWell, he changes colour depending on what mood he's in.
AmeliaOh. Uh, well, could he be green sometimes?
Tiger PowOh, green means he's cheeky! How come?
AmeliaLook at this.
SamTiger Pow looked where Amelia was pointing, and there was a green line that was drawn into the shape of some kind of smiley, cheeky face right next to Tiger Pow's window.
AmeliaI think he might have gone out the window.
Tiger PowI think so too!
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
PencilLet's follow the trail!
Donuts And The Jam Trail
Samsaid the pencil. They looked out the window to see if they could see any more signs of the pencil. As they looked outside, they saw it. There was drawings all over things that led away from the house.
AmeliaI think we should follow the drawings,
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowGood idea,
Samsaid Tiger Pow. So they climbed out the window and continued to follow them. It was quite funny because the pencil had drawn all kinds of silly things. There were smiley faces and frowny faces, there was pictures of little stick figures doing silly things like cartwheels and tumbles, and there was even one that had its tongue poking out. It was very funny. As they walked along, they quite enjoyed all the different pictures, and they realised that the colour of the pictures was starting to change.
Tiger PowOh, look at that!
AmeliaIt's turning orange,
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowThat means he's hungry.
AmeliaHungry?
Samsaid Amelia.
PencilYeah, us pencils have gotta eat.
AmeliaWhat does a pencil eat?
Samsaid Amelia.
Tiger PowOh, it depends what day it is. Could be anything.
SamThey all stopped because the drawings had stopped as well.
Tiger Pow*sniff sniff sniff* What's that smell?
AmeliaI can smell it too,
Samsaid Amelia.
AmeliaIt smells-
PencilDelicious,
Samsaid the pencil.
PencilThat smells like hot jam donuts!
Tiger PowHot jam donuts? Yum! Let's go! I could eat one of those. We've been working pretty hard.
SamAs they started following the smell, they found a hot jam donut van just around the corner.
Tiger PowUm, I'll take three hot jam donuts, please.
PencilI think I could eat two!
Samsaid the pencil.
AmeliaJust one for me,
Samsaid Amelia.
Donut manOkay,
Samsaid the man.
Donut manThat's funny. You're the second pencil I've seen here today,
Blue Means Play At The Playground
Samhe said to the pencil.
Tiger PowYou've seen my pencil?
Donut manYeah, he was very hungry. He ordered six hot jam donuts!
Tiger PowHooray! That means we're still on the trail,
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
AmeliaWell done, everybody. We followed our noses and we found more of the clues. We should keep going and see if we can find him.
Tiger PowAh, we should probably eat our hot jam donuts first.
PencilOh yeah, good idea.
AmeliaAlright,
Samsaid Amelia. So Amelia, Tiger Pow, and the pencil all sat down to eat their hot jam donuts. They were very, very yummy.
Tiger PowAlright, that was tasty, but now we better keep going and try and find my pencil.
AmeliaWell, what are we gonna look for this time?
Samsaid Amelia. As they looked around, they could see a trail of jam leading off away from the van.
Tiger PowI wonder! I wonder if that's from him.
AmeliaMaybe,
Samsaid Amelia.
AmeliaLet's follow it and see!
SamSo, they followed the drops of jam that led off down the street, around the corner, around another corner, down a side way, until it got close to a big open area.
Tiger PowHey look, here's a drawing!
AmeliaIt is,
Samsaid Amelia.
AmeliaAnd this time it's blue. What does blue mean?
PencilIt means he wants to play!
Samsaid the pencil.
Tiger PowOh, that's kind of a good idea. I feel like getting some energy out and going for a play. Um...
SamThey looked around, and there, in the distance, they could see-
PencilA playground! Tiger Pow, please, please, please, can we go to the playground?
Tiger PowOh, but we need to keep looking for the pencil.
PencilOh, please?
AmeliaWell, if the pencil was feeling playful, maybe it's at the playground!
Tiger PowGood idea!
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
Tiger PowAlright, we should go to the playground. Come on, pencil.
PencilThat's what I wanted to do!
AmeliaHooray!
Samsaid Amelia. So, they all went off together towards the playground, and as they were getting close, they could see a swing that almost looked like it was swinging by itself, and they could hear a voice on the swing.
Runaway pencilWee! Wee! Wee! Wee! Wee!
Tiger PowThat's him!
Samsaid Tiger Pow. They raced over to the playground, and there was an amazing multicoloured pencil sitting on a swing, swinging back and forth.
PencilWe found you!
Tiger PowHooray!
Samsaid Tiger Pow.
Tiger PowWhere have you been?
Runaway pencilWell, I was feeling a little bit cheeky, and I decided to go off for a draw.
Tiger PowWe noticed!
AmeliaYeah, we liked your pictures. They were a lot of fun,
Samsaid Amelia.
Runaway pencilAnd then as I was continuing to draw, I realised-
PencilYou were hungry,
Samsaid the other pencil.
Runaway pencilHow did you know?
PencilBecause we followed you to the hot jam donuts. They were yummy.
Home Again
Runaway pencilYes, they were yummy. I had so many of them. They were so delicious. And then as I was eating them and walking and talking and doing all kinds of things, all of a sudden, I felt all the energy from all the donuts. It was tingling, and I could not control it anymore. I knew that if I didn't do something about it, I might explode! So I came here for a play on the playground. I've been going down the slide and up the climbing frame and around and around, and then I got very excited and I sat down on the swings, and I've been swinging back and forth.
Tiger PowOh, I'm so glad I found you. I've been looking for you everywhere.
Runaway pencilYes, sorry, Tiger Pow. I-I didn't mean to disappear like that. I just- I just got too excited and- and far too busy.
AmeliaOkay,
Samsaid Amelia.
AmeliaWell, we're glad we found you. Just next time, make sure you tell Tiger Pow where you're going.
Runaway pencilOh, sorry, Tiger Pow, next time I promise, I promise I'll tell.
Tiger PowOh, that's okay. Alright, well, how are you feeling now?
PencilI'm actually feeling-
SamHe drew a line, and the line came out purple.
AmeliaWhat does purple mean?
Samsaid Amelia.
Runaway pencilIt means I'm tired,
Samhe said.
Tiger PowYeah, he is tired. Alright, I'd better get you back home to bed.
PencilCan I go to bed too? I'm tired, it's been a big day.
AmeliaI'm actually feeling a little bit tired myself,
Samsaid Amelia.
AmeliaAlright, we should all head home.
SamSo, with that, Tiger Pow walked Amelia back home first and dropped her off. Then he and his pencils disappeared back to his house. As Amelia walked back in the door and sat back down at her colouring, she decided to have a rest while listening to some music and continued to colour in. Her mum walked in as she was continuing to colour.
MumWell, Amelia, how was your day? What did you get up to?
AmeliaWell,
Samshe said,
AmeliaI don't think you'd believe me, even if I told you.
SamAnd that is the end of the story.
