Sam

One day, a little girl named Amelia was doing some colouring in her room. Now, she was colouring in some beautiful pictures, and as she coloured, she could hear a noise rummaging through the corner of her room.

Tiger Pow

Nah, it's not this one. What about this? Oh no, it's not that one either.

Sam

She started to look around to see where the noise was coming from. That's when she noticed a tiny little tiger that was going through the box of pencils in the corner of her room.

Amelia

Um, excuse me,

Meeting The Talking Pencil

Sam

said Amelia. The tiger turned around.

Tiger Pow

Oh, hi, I didn't see you there.

Amelia

Um, what are you doing in my pencils?

Tiger Pow

Well, I've actually lost my favourite pencil and I can't find it anywhere. I was just checking to see if it was in your colouring pencils.

Amelia

Well, why would it be in my colouring pencils?

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

I don't know. I've checked five houses already and it wasn't in them either.

Amelia

Well, have you been in any of these houses before?

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

No, but isn't this where colouring pencils live?

Amelia

Well, this is where my colouring pencils live,

Sam

said Amelia.

Amelia

But it wouldn't be where yours live.

Tiger Pow

Well, mine live in lots of places.

Amelia

What do you mean they live in lots of places?

Tiger Pow

Well it depends what kind of mood they're in.

Amelia

Mood?

Sam

said Amelia.

Amelia

Pencils don't have moods.

Tiger Pow

Mine do,

Sam

said the little tiger.

Amelia

Who- who are you?

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

My name is Tiger Pow! And I like doing colouring and- and my pencils are extra special.

Amelia

How are they extra special?

Pencil

We can talk,

Sam

said a voice.

Amelia

Who said that?

Sam

said Amelia.

Pencil

I did.

Sam

Tiger Pow pulled one of the pencils out of his pocket and held it up.

Pencil

Hello!

Sam

said the pencil.

Amelia

Um, that's a- that's a talking pencil,

Sam

said Amelia.

Pencil

I know!

Sam

said the pencil.

Pencil

I like to talk. Do you like to talk?

Amelia

Um, y-yes,

Sam

said Amelia.

Pencil

And I can talk by talking, and I can talk by writing. Watch this!

Sam

The pencil jumped out of Tiger Pow's hand, went down to the piece of paper that Amelia was next to, and wrote the word hello.

Amelia

Um, this is very strange,

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

Yeah, I know, but I've lost my favourite pencil.

Pencil

I thought I was your favourite.

Tiger Pow

Well, you're all my favourites, but if you don't have all of them, someone's missing, and I'm very worried,

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Amelia

So, you thought that your pencil might have come here and climbed in with my pencils?

Tiger Pow

Um, yeah, it's always a chance,

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Pencil

Yes, there's always lots of chance,

Sam

said the pencil that he was holding.

Amelia

Well, okay. I think we need to go find your pencil,

Sam

said Amelia.

Amelia

I'll just go ask my mum.

The Messy Room Mystery

Sam

So Amelia went into the other room.

Amelia

Um, mum, do you mind if I go help a tiger named Tiger Pow find his favourite pencil?

Mum

Of course!

Sam

said her mum.

Mum

That'll be fine.

Sam

She went back in and started talking to Tiger Pow again.

Amelia

Mum said it's fine.

Tiger Pow

Hooray!

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Tiger Pow

So let's go find my pencil!

Sam

Tiger Pow jumped out the window of her room. Then he stuck his head back in.

Tiger Pow

Um, where should we start?

Amelia

Well,

Sam

said Amelia,

Amelia

I find when I've lost things, the best place to start is the last place I remember seeing them.

Tiger Pow

Oh, well that was in my bedroom! Alright. Well, I guess we're going to my house!

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Tiger Pow

Come on!

Sam

This time he jumped out the window and began to fly.

Amelia

Um, how are you flying?

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

Oh yeah, I've got a superhero cape that helps me be able to fly. Do you want one?

Amelia

Um, okay,

Sam

she said. Tiger Pow gave her a cape and put it around her neck. With that, Amelia lifted up into the air.

Tiger Pow

Come on!

Sam

she said.

Pencil

Let's go!

Sam

said the pencil. And with that, Tiger Pow, Amelia, and the pencil all flew into the air. Well, the pencil didn't fly. Tiger Pow put it back in his pocket, and they sailed off into the air, all the way to Tiger Pow's house. When they flew in the window, the room was a complete mess.

Amelia

Somebody's destroyed your bedroom!

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

Um, no,

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Tiger Pow

This is kind of just how it is a lot of the time.

Amelia

What?

Sam

said Amelia.

Following Green Cheeky Clues

Amelia

How can you know that your pencil's lost and just not under all of this somewhere?

Tiger Pow

Oh, that's a good idea,

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Pencil

Maybe we should clean your room,

Sam

said the pencil.

Tiger Pow

Um, alright,

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Tiger Pow

I'll start.

Sam

Tiger Pow started diving into the toys and all the things on his floor and throwing them in every direction.

Amelia

That's not cleaning!

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

Oh, well, I'm not really good at cleaning. Uh, can you help me?

Amelia

Sure,

Sam

said Amelia. So Amelia helped Tiger Pow find all the places for his toys. They put them back on shelves and back in boxes until the room was almost completely clean. They looked around.

Amelia

No pencil here,

Sam

said Amelia.

Pencil

Yes, no pencil- No, hang on, I'm a pencil!

Sam

said the pencil.

Amelia

Well, n-no pencil apart from you,

Sam

said Amelia.

Pencil

Haha, okay.

Tiger Pow

Well, well what do we do now?

Amelia

We look for clues,

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

Oh, what kind of clues?

Amelia

I don't know,

Sam

said Amelia.

Amelia

But maybe we'll know when we see it.

Sam

So, Tiger Pow, Amelia, and the one pencil that Tiger Pow still had started looking around the room. Until-

Amelia

Look!

Sam

said Amelia.

Amelia

What colour was that pencil?

Tiger Pow

Well, he changes colour depending on what mood he's in.

Amelia

Oh. Uh, well, could he be green sometimes?

Tiger Pow

Oh, green means he's cheeky! How come?

Amelia

Look at this.

Sam

Tiger Pow looked where Amelia was pointing, and there was a green line that was drawn into the shape of some kind of smiley, cheeky face right next to Tiger Pow's window.

Amelia

I think he might have gone out the window.

Tiger Pow

I think so too!

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Pencil

Let's follow the trail!

Donuts And The Jam Trail

Sam

said the pencil. They looked out the window to see if they could see any more signs of the pencil. As they looked outside, they saw it. There was drawings all over things that led away from the house.

Amelia

I think we should follow the drawings,

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

Good idea,

Sam

said Tiger Pow. So they climbed out the window and continued to follow them. It was quite funny because the pencil had drawn all kinds of silly things. There were smiley faces and frowny faces, there was pictures of little stick figures doing silly things like cartwheels and tumbles, and there was even one that had its tongue poking out. It was very funny. As they walked along, they quite enjoyed all the different pictures, and they realised that the colour of the pictures was starting to change.

Tiger Pow

Oh, look at that!

Amelia

It's turning orange,

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

That means he's hungry.

Amelia

Hungry?

Sam

said Amelia.

Pencil

Yeah, us pencils have gotta eat.

Amelia

What does a pencil eat?

Sam

said Amelia.

Tiger Pow

Oh, it depends what day it is. Could be anything.

Sam

They all stopped because the drawings had stopped as well.

Tiger Pow

*sniff sniff sniff* What's that smell?

Amelia

I can smell it too,

Sam

said Amelia.

Amelia

It smells-

Pencil

Delicious,

Sam

said the pencil.

Pencil

That smells like hot jam donuts!

Tiger Pow

Hot jam donuts? Yum! Let's go! I could eat one of those. We've been working pretty hard.

Sam

As they started following the smell, they found a hot jam donut van just around the corner.

Tiger Pow

Um, I'll take three hot jam donuts, please.

Pencil

I think I could eat two!

Sam

said the pencil.

Amelia

Just one for me,

Sam

said Amelia.

Donut man

Okay,

Sam

said the man.

Donut man

That's funny. You're the second pencil I've seen here today,

Blue Means Play At The Playground

Sam

he said to the pencil.

Tiger Pow

You've seen my pencil?

Donut man

Yeah, he was very hungry. He ordered six hot jam donuts!

Tiger Pow

Hooray! That means we're still on the trail,

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Amelia

Well done, everybody. We followed our noses and we found more of the clues. We should keep going and see if we can find him.

Tiger Pow

Ah, we should probably eat our hot jam donuts first.

Pencil

Oh yeah, good idea.

Amelia

Alright,

Sam

said Amelia. So Amelia, Tiger Pow, and the pencil all sat down to eat their hot jam donuts. They were very, very yummy.

Tiger Pow

Alright, that was tasty, but now we better keep going and try and find my pencil.

Amelia

Well, what are we gonna look for this time?

Sam

said Amelia. As they looked around, they could see a trail of jam leading off away from the van.

Tiger Pow

I wonder! I wonder if that's from him.

Amelia

Maybe,

Sam

said Amelia.

Amelia

Let's follow it and see!

Sam

So, they followed the drops of jam that led off down the street, around the corner, around another corner, down a side way, until it got close to a big open area.

Tiger Pow

Hey look, here's a drawing!

Amelia

It is,

Sam

said Amelia.

Amelia

And this time it's blue. What does blue mean?

Pencil

It means he wants to play!

Sam

said the pencil.

Tiger Pow

Oh, that's kind of a good idea. I feel like getting some energy out and going for a play. Um...

Sam

They looked around, and there, in the distance, they could see-

Pencil

A playground! Tiger Pow, please, please, please, can we go to the playground?

Tiger Pow

Oh, but we need to keep looking for the pencil.

Pencil

Oh, please?

Amelia

Well, if the pencil was feeling playful, maybe it's at the playground!

Tiger Pow

Good idea!

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Tiger Pow

Alright, we should go to the playground. Come on, pencil.

Pencil

That's what I wanted to do!

Amelia

Hooray!

Sam

said Amelia. So, they all went off together towards the playground, and as they were getting close, they could see a swing that almost looked like it was swinging by itself, and they could hear a voice on the swing.

Runaway pencil

Wee! Wee! Wee! Wee! Wee!

Tiger Pow

That's him!

Sam

said Tiger Pow. They raced over to the playground, and there was an amazing multicoloured pencil sitting on a swing, swinging back and forth.

Pencil

We found you!

Tiger Pow

Hooray!

Sam

said Tiger Pow.

Tiger Pow

Where have you been?

Runaway pencil

Well, I was feeling a little bit cheeky, and I decided to go off for a draw.

Tiger Pow

We noticed!

Amelia

Yeah, we liked your pictures. They were a lot of fun,

Sam

said Amelia.

Runaway pencil

And then as I was continuing to draw, I realised-

Pencil

You were hungry,

Sam

said the other pencil.

Runaway pencil

How did you know?

Pencil

Because we followed you to the hot jam donuts. They were yummy.

Home Again

Runaway pencil

Yes, they were yummy. I had so many of them. They were so delicious. And then as I was eating them and walking and talking and doing all kinds of things, all of a sudden, I felt all the energy from all the donuts. It was tingling, and I could not control it anymore. I knew that if I didn't do something about it, I might explode! So I came here for a play on the playground. I've been going down the slide and up the climbing frame and around and around, and then I got very excited and I sat down on the swings, and I've been swinging back and forth.

Tiger Pow

Oh, I'm so glad I found you. I've been looking for you everywhere.

Runaway pencil

Yes, sorry, Tiger Pow. I-I didn't mean to disappear like that. I just- I just got too excited and- and far too busy.

Amelia

Okay,

Sam

said Amelia.

Amelia

Well, we're glad we found you. Just next time, make sure you tell Tiger Pow where you're going.

Runaway pencil

Oh, sorry, Tiger Pow, next time I promise, I promise I'll tell.

Tiger Pow

Oh, that's okay. Alright, well, how are you feeling now?

Pencil

I'm actually feeling-

Sam

He drew a line, and the line came out purple.

Amelia

What does purple mean?

Sam

said Amelia.

Runaway pencil

It means I'm tired,

Sam

he said.

Tiger Pow

Yeah, he is tired. Alright, I'd better get you back home to bed.

Pencil

Can I go to bed too? I'm tired, it's been a big day.

Amelia

I'm actually feeling a little bit tired myself,

Sam

said Amelia.

Amelia

Alright, we should all head home.

Sam

So, with that, Tiger Pow walked Amelia back home first and dropped her off. Then he and his pencils disappeared back to his house. As Amelia walked back in the door and sat back down at her colouring, she decided to have a rest while listening to some music and continued to colour in. Her mum walked in as she was continuing to colour.

Mum

Well, Amelia, how was your day? What did you get up to?

Amelia

Well,

Sam

she said,

Amelia

I don't think you'd believe me, even if I told you.

Sam

And that is the end of the story.

Tiger Pow
