086: Feng Shui, Tarot, and Intuition // with Kate May
Step into the fascinating world where energy, space, and intention converge with Feng Shui expert Kate May. What began as her childhood curiosity about spiritual energies has evolved into a practice that blends tarot readings with Feng Shui consultations—a combination that addresses both our inner and outer energetic needs. Kate explains how the energy of your home can shape daily life in surprising ways, from mirrors disrupting sleep to clutter influencing relationships.
Through the practice of "Flying Stars" Feng Shui, Kate shows how specific areas of our homes correspond to wealth, relationships, career, and health. She also highlights how children’s spaces, bedroom layouts, and even wearing your personal "power colors" can support energy alignment.
What makes Kate’s approach so engaging is her ability to weave ancient wisdom into practical, accessible tools. Her personal stories of manifestation and synchronicity reveal how aligning our physical environments with intention can open doors to unexpected opportunities and deeper connections.

Frank:We're a go for Kate.
Lauren:Send the rockets. Kate May, thank you so much for joining us. On Claire Voyaging we. I was just telling you we've never had a Feng Shui person on our show, so we're really excited about this. Can you give us some backstory on how you got into this? What's your deal? Just all the good stuff.
Kate:Okay, so I've been interested in everything to do with spiritual, mystical energy for as long as I can remember. My mum, when I was little, used to read the horoscopes in the magazines and that was always a bit of an interest. She would talk about using like lavender to help sleep or chamomile to calm down, so that kind of sparked an interest. I had my nan who I lived next door to. She lost her mum very early and we'd talk about feeling her mum. How can you feel your mum when she's dead? So, right from a young age I had a big interest in all of it and it was just an interest and I probably I'm a full-time tarot reader as well as doing the Feng Shui now as well Amazing. And I've been doing tarot reader as well as doing the feng shui now as well amazing, doing tarot reading for 20 years. So I've had I think I had my first deck at about 14, 15 and I remember having a feng shui book roughly the same age I just collected everything to learn, didn't know anything about it, had too much because I never really got into um delving into any of it really, until I was in my 30s when I had my children and gave up my proper job to be a full-time mum and then I was able to have the time to go in and do all the studying. So I've been running a tarot business for 20 years and back in lockdown I had a feng shui lady came and do my I've got a shop. So she came and did my shop. She came and did my home and it was like the best day ever because it was something that I loosely looked into, knew a lot of the tips, but to have it done as a proper one-to-one with all the correct remedies and the correct home analysis was just brilliant and it was a game changer in my life from that with the effects that happened. And every year with Feng Shui there's a new set of numbers that come in to help restore the home every February.
Kate:So this lady was doing it for me every February as a retouch and then she gave it up. But she kept me on as a client because I kept nagging her that I, you know, really wanted it done and I didn't know anyone else that was doing it and it last year. So February last year I said to her I promise this will be the last time that you do it, I'll find somebody else. But through about the October and my husband and I were on our way down to the beach and then I said to him him, oh, there's a mind, body, spirit, fair in the opposite direction. So we did a quick U-turn, we went to this fair and for the first time ever we've run fairs, been to lots of fairs, first time ever I saw a Feng Shui stall. So I went over to her and was like you're my new best friend, do you teach it? Do you do this? And she actually wasn't from the area but she said no, I don't teach it, but my teacher is opening up some slots to teach and there's like five days left. So I went home and booked it straight away Come the November. We started the sessions by the January.
Kate:I was qualified in in it, so I was able to do my own from this year, february, and it's just been a massive game changer massive game changer in a good way. Things that have happened to us, opportunities that have happened to my family that just not happened before, and then to be able to share that and help more people be able to get the feng shui is all about getting a balance with your home and your home supporting you, and it doesn't necessarily stop bad things happening, but it allows you to be able to manage through any challenges and certainly to open up new opportunities. And then I found, with the tarot readings that I was doing, when people come to me and it's coming in the reading that they might have health problem, relationship problem, because I now know the whole nine areas of the home, I was able to say so, what's going on? If it was a love problem, what's going on in the southwest? And they might be like, wow, that's our spare room and we just put a load of rubbish there. I'm like, oh, this is why you're having problems in your love life. So I'm able to help talk them through the Feng Shui, through the tarot reading.
Kate:So it kind of naturally business combined. And even when I first got into doing the tarot, that was very natural. It wasn't a plan of mine, it wasn't a big dream, I just was doing it as a bit of a hobby. And then more and more people were like can you come to our house and do it? I've got a bunch of friends and within a couple of years I was like, oh, this, this has turned into a bit of a business and then I took it a bit more serious.
Kate:So both of them have merged and you know I'm very, very lucky with a hobby that's just bought in a business, so it never feels like work, but it's the. The tarot for me is like the inner energy and the feng shui is like the outer energy. So to be able to bring it together and, with the tarot, get into the nitty-gritty of it but with the home, be able to really help people balance their lives, achieve more success and more happiness, it's just, yeah, I absolutely love it, I'm very lucky, but it all wasn't planned. It's all just kind of the universe way. I think that it was obviously meant to be, because it was so easy.
Lauren:Oh, I love that you've integrated tarot with it, Cause I I don't feel like I've heard of that.
Frank:Is that like common? That's not common, is it?
Kate:Not at all, no. And my teacher when I first said to her about it, she's from Australia and she's like I've never heard that before. So I do a lot of work with manifestations. Again, I've got so many weird things that have happened in my life, so many weird coincidences, and one of them was through tarot and manifesting, where I manifested my husband without realizing it, and I was able to combine the tarot with the manifesting and now with the Feng Shui manifestation. And Feng Shui works in harmony because you're sending out the intention of what you want and it works in alignment. So, to bring all three of those modalities together, every day I do a live reading on my Instagram and I talk about what the card means, but also where you can put it in feng shui and on your altars for manifestation. And now I've had a um, quite a well-known publisher contact me to write a book on all of it, bringing it all together. So it's not, it's the first, it's the first of the lot yes, absolutely kate doing it.
Lauren:I love that.
Frank:That's so great okay, growing up did your? You said your nan had yet get or she, she would speak to her, her, who did she?
Kate:speak to. It was all very interesting. So my dad and my mom oh God, my nan on my dad's side is that's where I live now, in her house, um, and actually in this room where I'm at, is where my granddad passed, but it's not spooky Um, she, she would just talk about her mum, just feeling her mum. That intrigued me a little bit and I wouldn't say she was a spiritualist, but she was open. And when my granddad passed, the day that he passed, she said she went out into the kitchen to get him a glass of water and to put some washing out. And in the kitchen she said she saw this purple hooded figure and she just had a feeling something wasn't washing out. And in the kitchen she said she saw this purple hooded figure and she just had a feeling something wasn't quite right. And when she came back in my granddad had passed. So I heard that story and it just intrigued me. And then my maternal grandparents. My nan, again was very open to it and her mum, my great nan, had died and again was very open to it and her mum, my great-nana, died and she asked for signs and she started to get signs. My aunt and uncle on my mum's side they're spiritualists or were spiritualists, they were healers. So although it was around me, it wasn't. My dad was an atheist and my mum was much more open, but it wasn't I wouldn't say I was brought up in it, it was just kind of loosely around, wouldn't say I was brought up in it, it was just kind of loosely around.
Kate:And as I was growing up, I wanted to be part of something. I'm a Taurean, so I really wanted to be part of some kind of traditional setup and I tried the Church of England, I went to Brownies, I tried to go to the um groups where there was all the Christian things, because that's you know, a lot of that was where we were then. But but it didn't fit and it wasn't until I went to a spiritualist church and I just felt that was home. It just felt like home to me. This is where I want to go, this is what I want to do and as far as I've just got so many strange stories.
Kate:So when I was about 15, 16, my uncle worked down a pier our local South Sea Pier and he was at a donut store. But his friends were clairvoyants, mediums, and they wanted somebody just to do a little Saturday, sunday job. So I got a job with them doing astrology charts for their clients while they did the mediumship and she read my hand palm and she said you're married twice and you'll work in America. And I was about 16, 17. And I thought, oh no, she's off her rocker. When I was about 25, I did move to Spain and I thought maybe she got the country wrong.
Kate:And then when I got to 40, I separated from my first husband and I think I was about 47, 48 when I married my second husband and I was like, oh yeah, she said I was about 47, 48 when I married my second husband and I was like, oh yeah, she said I was going to be married twice and he's a medium, he's a trans medium and we did done a lot of work in California. Oh my gosh, before lockdown we were going six months. I was like, yeah, she was right. And then I was talking we were in a completely different part of the country, so maybe like three hours away from where I live talking to his mum, where she comes out my husband's mum, who's also a medium, he's like fourth generation and she said that, um, she used to work down up here and she described the booth. I thought that sounds familiar and she said we had this little girl work for us doing astrology from our friend Ron, and I was like Ron was my uncle. I was that little girl, so I'd actually worked with his parents 30 years before I met him. They weren't from the area and it was her son. That was my second husband that I'd gone.
Kate:There was a really, really strange thing there and everybody that I seemed to connect to whether it was at school, I was always the one that had that was asked to look after the new people and we're still in contact now. We all had interest in God or spiritualism. We didn't know it was spiritualism, but we would have deep conversations about it. So there was an attraction right from little. And even my first or second boyfriend I met randomly in a nightclub. His parents were healers, so it's always been kind of around me.
Kate:And then when I had my first son, my midwife was saying to me go to this baby group, it would be really good for you, but I had friends that had babies and I didn't really want to get into the mum clique I'm not very good at then, I wasn't very good with meeting new people and I said no, I don't want to go, I'm all right with my small group. And then a friend of mine said my daughter, who was only 16 at the time, had a baby, is really shy and her midwife has told her to go to baby groups. Would you please take her? So I said, look, I'll go once, but it's not my thing, I won't go again. Well, I went, I loved it. She never went back. I ended up going every day and got really friendly with the people that run the group.
Kate:And then one of the ladies said to me I was doing beauty therapy at the time. She said to me would you bring your couch in and do some treatments on the mums while we look after all the children? So I did that, took my flyers in and she looked at the flyers and she said I'm Reiki trained. And she said oh, I see you're Reiki trained. I'm Reiki trained, I've got angel cards. I said I've got tarot cards. So she said bring them in. So I brought them in. She brought her angel cards. So we started reading for mums.
Kate:And that's how that grew, because it went from just a couple of mums in the toddler groups to then them saying can you come and do? Saying, can you come and do our friends, can you come and do our friends? And within a couple of months it had grown and within a year I was able to think, oh my God, I need to get a website and do this as a business. So the universe, I had to get to that baby group to meet this girl, to do this. The universe had a plan. So for me, like I said, it's all just been, it's just all falling into place really easily with the connections. But if I look back I would say it's always been there, it always been there. I did go off track it was the 90s for a while, so I did go off track for a little while before I settled down and have children. But it's, it's been such a big interest and now I couldn't imagine it not being.
Kate:And even when I met my second husband, I was doing events, spiritual events, and a friend said to me would you I know a friend would you put on a trance night for him? So it wasn't my thing at the time, trance. So I said, oh, I will, but I'll sit at the back. He did the evening and then we just stayed in contact. We started to put on events together and then, when my marriage separated, I found myself thinking, oh, I don't know if I like him actually. And then it blossomed into something and that's where the manifestation came. So I was with my previous husband trying to make it work, although I don't know why I was trying to make it work, and I'd pulled some tarot cards on purpose. I'd specifically chosen some, put them out with the full moon in the idea of come on, this is what I want to bring in. And then it was a year later that marriage fell apart within weeks. And then Colin, my new husband, came in within a couple of months. It was a year later.
Kate:You know, on Facebook, when it comes up with your memories, and I'd taken a picture of these cards. And when I looked at the cards, when it came up in my memories, I was like huh, actually I had the ace of cups, which is new love. I had the four of wands, which is marriage, and I had the ten of cups, which is happy ever after, and the two of cups, which is a new coupling. So I'd actually picked wrong cards for a marriage to be together, but the right cards for a happy, ever after new beginning and now in the idea of like the cards can be used for manifestation as well. So when I learned the feng shui of the areas the money areas and the love areas and the work areas there's particular cards that that draw that energy. So I was like these cards can be used as like a symbol, not just for predicting but as a symbol to enhance the energy in that particular area. So all of it has just been weird coincidences that have all blended.
Kate:When we went to America the strangest thing with California um, we were doing a psychic supper and a lady had come and swapped her ticket over and she I don't know who she was meant to have, but she wanted to have a reading with my husband, so she'd swapped her ticket. I don't know if she was allowed, but she swapped her ticket to have it with my husband. Um, just before then we'd been talking about america because he he comes from. Um, well, he's done a lot of work with the crow tribe in amer America. He spent quite a few years doing vision quests and working with the Crow tribe. So he's got a and his parents run in West Virginia a spiritualist church there, so he's had a lot of connections. So that got me thinking we want to go back over there. But um, to California. I don't know why I was thinking it. I would put an advert on and it would be California. My son came home all within two weeks T-shirt California.
Kate:I got an email from somebody wanting a reading from California and it was just all bizarre. So this lady had swapped her ticket, gone to my husband and had the reading with him, and then she said I've got a feeling that you and Kate we never met before. I've got a feeling that you and Kate should go to California. And he was like well, that'd be great. One, we've got no money, but two, we don't know anyone.
Kate:And she said I do. So he said well, go and talk to the boss. So she said to me I know somebody that's in Palm Springs and she's into all of this. So I connected with her and we got on really well and she's like yeah, I can put some events on. I also know somebody who is in Santa Clarita and in Carmel. So I was like okay, we can get this. And then I'm like we haven't got any money. So I said to this woman this is all good, but we've got no money, she said don't worry, it will come, and later that day. Um, we got a ppi. Check out the blue which covered everything wait, what's a ppi?
Kate:oh sorry, um ppi, so it's a. It's all finished now. But it was when people used to take out insurances for either bank loans or credit cards. Um, I think probably in the 80s and then in the 90s it might be in the 90s, in the late 90s, 2000s they found out that it was fraud, that they weren't allowed to do that, so they were compensating everybody got it everybody was putting in a claim for ppi, whether you had it or not.
Kate:People were just claiming to see if they could. So I've done it, forgot all about it and, um, yeah, and it came through and that was our ticket. So we ended up going to california and and, yeah, up until lockdown, it was all it all worked. So, just like really weird things. So this is definitely my path and I I really encourage people, like when they're trying to do things, it's okay having a pipe dream, but when you're in that manifestation and alignment, it should all really fall into place. If there's too many obstacles, too many um, obstruct, obstructions, it may not be the way that you need to go. There could be some other areas that you need to go in. So there's a fine line between um feeling what your vibration is and what your wishes are as well, but just been so, so lucky, really grateful and just so lucky with all of it there.
Frank:But it's it all kind of just yeah, slotted into place, yeah so lauren told me we were talking to a feng shui person today, but you were a wizard. It's it's really amazing. It's really amazing to me how like it seems like your entire world is surrounded by people that are either like psychics or mediums, are very sensitive yeah and like that's so cool. Yeah, it is 24 7.
Kate:I've got a coffee shop again that I don't even like coffee, I can't cook, so I don't know what I was doing opening a coffee shop, but we've had it seven years now. It's really successful. I sell crystals and cards and things, so it's called the mystic coffee lounge, so it's a coffee shop as well as selling all these, and then I do my readings, um, in a separate room, um, so the whole lot is 24 7. I've got a handful of friends that aren't into it, which is lovely, because they ground me. My children don't really believe it, so they ground me. But, um, yeah, it is, it's my entire life, which is perfect.
Frank:I love it like that do you have you noticed that, as you are, as you've like, used tarot and and worked in feng shui more that, like I don't know, do you? Has it sparked any of your, your, your psychic abilities?
Kate:oh, yeah, I mean, I do this as a full-time job. So, um, my psychic, I'm quite clairvoyant, so that's quite strong because I'm using it. It's like a muscle. I'll go to the gym, you know, I use that every day. Yeah, um, but I can where I've blended and I do like a feng shui tarot reading now, so where I've blended the two, I know, um, straight away.
Kate:If it's showing me that there's relationship problems, I know that there's going to be an issue in their Southwest. Or if they've got career problems, I know they're going to have something dodgy in the north. So before they even said it to me, I already know things. And where I'm clairvoyant which is great to be nosy I'm good at looking in at people's homes, which is great to be nosy. I'm good at looking in at people's homes, not all the time I can do it, but a lot of the time where I can, I just start to vision their home so I can get an idea whether there is too much clutter or whether the energy feels good in the home, whether it's stagnant energy. So I just things play out in my mind and I can almost get a little. I can go around their home without them knowing about it there. So, yeah, that's definitely enhanced since I've got into the Feng Shui. Oh my gosh.
Frank:What a tool. How many, how many, when you talk to people.
Kate:It's a blessing and a curse. I'll tell you Sure.
Frank:How many? When you're like, oh, oh, there's something weird going on and you're like Northwest area, are people like I need a compass?
Lauren:Oh, I literally would have to.
Kate:Yeah, so when if somebody books a Feng Shui reading with me, I send them out a map already so that they can, before they have the session with me, they can find all their areas and they can either write it down or just get it in their head so that when I'm talking to them they already know it's not like it's they've got to think about it, they're already prepared for it there.
Kate:So I do send people out a map. Other than that, I would say to them go into the center of your home and use a compass, and there's many, many different schools of Feng Shui, and the one that I use and have been taught is called Flying Stars, which is where the southwest area relates to your relationship, whereas a traditional Feng Shui it might be that the left of the home is relationship, but with the flying stars everybody's left of the home it's going to have a different area to it. So the flying stars makes it more detailed and personal on it there. So that's why I think it's good to have a map prior so you get an idea of of what we're going to be talking about okay, let me ask you a macro question here, because it's funny, because I've, I've, I'm so used to that.
Frank:You, everyone's heard the term feng shui. They have an idea of what it means and like, but it feels like with you it means something entirely different, I, I guess what I'm asking is what's the relation between um, the relation between these type of energetic signatures and like location?
Kate:So the location would be very personal and this is where the numbers come in. It's not going to be the same for everybody. So it generates energy in each of the areas and once these areas have been activated, or if they're deactivated, it will bring a balance or an imbalance around the home and it's just like when you go into, you know you've gone into a new home now. So when you go into a home, everything should feel perfect. Your home should make you feel alive, like life is supporting you and good opportunities are coming, the money is flowing and when you walk in every room, you should absolutely love every room. If there are things that is, a lot of clutter or broken things, or the energy perhaps has been a lot of tears, if there's been a lot of upheaval, that energy is on a lower vibration. So that vibrational energy will affect you because you're in it all the time and it would just be like being with somebody really moody all the time. Eventually it's going to chip away at your vibration until you do something about it. So, having the home either remedied with a full analysis or just checking in and making sure that everything is not just decluttering and neat and tidy, but everything is balanced and you'll know it because you'll feel it. You'll feel good in a room if it's balanced, but it supports you through. If there are life's changes and challenges that we can't do anything about, it will support you through that.
Kate:What's really interesting is when you move home is you've got a very quick guide as to what was great before and what might not be, or the other way around, so you can. You'll know straight away. If, like say, for example, in your old home, you had loads of money opportunities, there was money wasn't an issue. And then you move and all of a sudden you've got money issues, you know that there's going to be a money block or some kind of challenge, either within the home itself, as a what's called difficult home that's probably the wrong word but like a home that that needs a little bit more support around it, or within the southeast area, which is money. So when you move you can see whether that was good, now it's bad, or it could be the other way around. Ideally you want it the other way around. That was bad, but now we're in this new home, it all works great, but but it's like, just you know, when you just cut atmosphere, you just walk in a place and you know whether you feel good and you want your home to support you because we're here all the time. So we pay a lot of money for our home. So we want it to support us, we want it to work with us and if it's not comfortable, that, like I said, will eventually just start to chip away at your personality, at your vibration, and you know, if you're not careful you can really go quite low with it. But it doesn't have to be like that.
Kate:So it's all about energy, the same. As you know, this year particularly, it's the year of the snakes. There's a lot to do with shedding, getting away from people or jobs or again homes, things that no longer serve us, and there's a lot of upgrades coming this year from personal upgrades. A lot of people are having like a reboot and a glow up now and that could be personally. That can be to do with homes redecorating or even within yourself, just going on new spiritual journeys. So within that, the energy is going to be changing and people will change. So you'll find you get on really well with certain people, but maybe some that you used to you don't anymore because your vibrations change. So everything in the home is all to do with the vibrational energy. It's a little bit.
Kate:Once you know, you can't unknow it. So there is a lot of general things on google that will talk about do this for feng shui, do that, and I do a lot of talks on the general things and they're good for a little starter and some homes. That's all you need. But other homes need a full analysis because you need that extra push there.
Kate:And once you know that your south is this or your west is that, you can't unknow it. So there's for me there's a little bit of um mind play in. If you know that that's your money area, you want to enhance it. But if you don't know it's not your, it's your money area, then you don't know. So you'll just go about doing your normal things there. But once you know, you can't undo it. And now I know it all. Wherever I look, I'm like that's that.
Kate:And if I'm doing readings for people and I did one this week and she she was talking about relationships and all I could see was behind her on her wardrobe, all this clutter, and I was like, oh gosh, how do I say this?
Kate:And in the end, can I just talk about what's behind you. Oh my gosh, you know, um. So it's really interesting really, but it's, it's the energy, it's just the vibrational energy and I think, more than ever now, people are upgrading, they are being more open, more sensitive. There's a lot more people becoming awake to things and more and more people the rise of the people. Rather than having to be put in a box and do we follow that person or that person, or actually can we be a bit in the middle, it's all right to be a bit of that person and a bit of that person. We don't want to be put in boxes now. So we're finding our own way and that, predominantly, will start within your heart, well within yourself, and then within your home, before you take it out to the world. So I think it's going to get bigger and bigger, with people recognizing that.
Lauren:So I want to just ask you something about what you mentioned about, like, if there's a lot of tears in one in your home or like someone's going through something, do you like to kind of clear that energy? Let's say, someone's going through something, do you like to kind of clear that energy? Let's say, someone's having a tough time, or there's been a for. Maybe for us there's been like a big transition, um, where you know, sometimes, when you're like releasing all this stuff, they say that you can kind of like have remnants of that energy that's kind of around. How do you do you? Do you use sage or Palo Santo, or how do you kind of clear?
Lauren:that crystals yeah. How do you clear the area?
Kate:Lots of different things and some homes it's it's light energy, so it could just be. I'll say could just be, it might be arguments, could. Sometimes it's um, it's light energy, so it could just be. I'll say could just be, it might be arguments, um, could. Sometimes it's hormonal children that would do it. Um, sometimes it's moving into a house that they've been a divorce there, so there's some lighter stuff. But then other times it's real trauma, like a death or passing, and some real, real trauma that's stirring up.
Kate:So things, the lighter things that can be done, yeah, going around with sage, with a little prayer, something of an intent to. I like to use Archangel Michael and call upon him because he's the archangel of removing negative energy. But if they're not into angels like my husband's not into angels, I am, so I'll do that. He's into the native american thing, so he'll bring up a different prayer. So it depends on on where your interests or where your beliefs are really as to what kind of energy you'll work with. But the palo santo most definitely, sage, but also these things clear the energy. But you also want to raise the vibration and that will be through playing happy music, singing, dancing.
Kate:Decluttering is a big game changer because everything holds the energies there. But sometimes that decluttering is it's not easy, especially if there's emotions attached to it, grief, memories. So it can be quite a big deal to get rid of some stuff. So it's not just like let's get rid of it. You're going to be happy. You might have to do some healing within that, but we had a whole episode about that.
Kate:Yeah, yeah, it was a big deal especially for me, it is a big deal and I think when there's when people can be too flippant and say just throw it away, get you know, declutter. I think there's a bit more going on than that, because you've got to do the healing journey first. You can help yourself by raising the vibration, playing happy music, having things around that make you feel joyous, not having things that make you feel sad. So, for example, let's just say somebody's passed and you've got a photo up of them when they were quite poorly, just being diagnosed, or it reminds you of them not being well. So you want the photo because you want to be, you know, you want to remember them. But if you look at it and think, oh yeah, they died just after that or just before that this happened, it's going to generate a vibration of not the best energy. So you're much better having a picture where they would be happy in their prime, or having an item that fills you with joy, not things that are going to just for the sake of it or because you feel obliged, because that will bring the energy down, and just having things around you that bring you joy, energy down and just having things around you that bring you joy and that that's pictures, whether that's colors, um crystals, you know clear quartz crystals known as the master healer. There's lots. Bells are really good, the music and sound bowls they're really good at helping to clear the energy there and sometimes the energy.
Kate:I mean I'm not a big fan and believer, really, of negative spirits, but negative energy I am and I've seen it where I did a house cleansing and it was about this big. And if I didn't see it, you know I'm Taurus with Capricorn, so I'm grounded. I'm not, although I'm woo-woo. I also am quite sceptical. So I saw this black, it was about this big and it was like a cloud. I'm quite skeptical. So I saw this black, it was about this big and it was like a cloud and it just floated out from one door, went down on the floor past my legs and out the other door and in that house she's had a lot of abuse, physical and mental abuse.
Kate:We were there to help clear it and that energy had a form. It didn't have an intelligence, but it created enough form to disrupt things, to make things move, to make things jump off the wall, to smash. But it wasn't. It didn't have a spiritual intelligence which meant you could get rid of it. So you couldn't bargain with it like you can, the spirit world. They've got their own intelligence. They'll go when they want to go. They don't need a human, in my opinion, to move them on. They're attached to the source, god. They can do that themselves in a blink of an eye.
Kate:But a negative energy that's been built up over a period of time through trauma or arguments. We can do something about that because it's got no intelligence and that's where all this cleansing comes in. So if it's deep, then it might need to be done every day, every week. But if it's deep, then it might need to be done every day every week. But if it's not that heavy and it's just I mean certainly when you move into a new place you would want to do it. It might just be once every few weeks, once a month, that you want to do it. So it would depend how heavy and you could use all of it Bit of sound, bit of singing, bit of clapping, bit of saying. You could use a bit of all of it.
Lauren:It's not going to hurt for those of us and our listeners who have children, especially young children, who just create clutter, create mess like all the time. What. What advice do you have for managing? I mean not like managing it because just you know, tell your kids yeah.
Kate:How does that?
Lauren:affect, like the energy of their room.
Kate:Yeah, it will affect. And the thing with Feng Shui is if it's not broke you don't need to fix it. So if the children are happy, they're sleeping well, they're doing well at school or nursery or college, you don't really need to do a lot. But if they are starting to struggle with any of that um, particularly sleeping or making friends, then their rooms energy will will come into play. And some children um, and more now my son as well is they have aghd or or some kind of um neurod condition there.
Kate:And most of those children actually quite like dark colours or they like their room. They like the curtains closed because it feels quiet. So when they've got ADHD particularly, their mind is very busy. So having their room with dark colours or the curtains closed means it's quiet for them, it's not loud and busy. In Feng Shui we want the opposite. We want the curtains open, we want the windows wide open, we want light in.
Kate:But it's your child's bedroom so it's not fair to do that when it's their energy. So this is going to sound a bit nuts, maybe not, but it's good to talk to your room and talk to your home. So my son's bedroom he has like dark curtains and he doesn't put the light on. He wanted black bedding, a compromise with black walls. We've got one black wall and his room in my home's energy is actually my money area and my money remedy is fire, which is reds, yellows, oranges, black is water, so it waters it down, so I can't go and change his room to reds because you've got age hd and that will send him off the wall.
Kate:He wants all the dark colors. So you talk to the room and you just say to the room you know, ideally I would love this to be bright and well lit, but I can't because X, y, z. So therefore, work with me and inspire me. Tell me what I need to do. So what I was inspired to do was just to get a couple of red and yellow throws, which he loves to have around him, and I just put one on the back of his bed and one on his actual bed. So when you walk in, you see that fire colour and that's what the energy rooms. As soon as he's not in the room, I'm opening all the curtains and the windows and then, as soon as he's back, he closes them. But that's okay, it's the clutter around. Again, if you've got anyone with aghd um, they love a mess, um, they, they they've got floor droves, so I do just have to keep putting floor droves that's funny for him.
Kate:It overwhelms him if I tell him put it away, oh, and do this. It's too much. So I just have to learn that I have to do it for him because it bothers me more than it bothers him. Yeah, but I do, I do. I mean, he's 16, he's not a baby. I do say to him you know, if you don't tidy your room this week or by this day, you're not going to get your pocket money. So then he will grudgingly do it. But depending on their age, you might have to do it for them. But it's just. It's trying to get their things. They want their toys around. It makes them feel safe.
Kate:So trying to get things put in boxes with a lid on them and maybe trying to make it fun if they're little, like having a game with it, like who can fill up the box the quickest, or some kind of game, um, of trying to get everything put away at the end of the day. Ideally we want things stored away with a lid on them. We want wardrobes closed. We don't want clothes be left out. We don't want shoes to be left out, because that's tired energy from the day so that can affect them sleeping. Ideally we don't want anything under the bed, but a lot. So if you do need to put things under the bed, try and make it soft, like bedding or pillows, nothing that's metal or hard um, it's what about shoes?
Lauren:because we have, like we each have a big container of shoes under our beds. What is that okay, I think?
Kate:that I'm under the beds. I wouldn't put them on the beds because it's literally like you're walking in your sleep. All that energy that's going from your shoes, um is going to disturb your sleep again. If you've got no problem sleeping, it's not an issue, but if you do have problems sleeping, I would definitely take the shoes out, and ideally we don't really want shoes in the bedroom, but if we have to, in a lidded container or in the wardrobe with the doors closed there, but certainly in some kind of lidded container, but not under the bed if you're not sleeping properly. What other things that children really like?
Frank:is. I'm suddenly planning a trip to the what's it called the storage.
Kate:Yeah, get all the containers.
Frank:Container storage.
Kate:I love a container, I love a container, and a lady member as well, and you've got Virgo as well, so that would be a good job to bring in to get everything organized. Oh yeah, you do that yeah. But children job to bring in to get everything organized yeah, you do that, yeah, yeah. But children's rooms they they like to feel supported, so they do like stuff around them.
Kate:But having photos of you guys or parents, family, friends is really good in the children's bedrooms oh okay with making friends, we want to make sure that there's no single pictures, no solitary pictures, no animals that are on their own.
Kate:We want to have collective pictures where we've got like a whole farmyard or like a whole group of friends there, and ideally softer colors. But you know, you have to be a bit careful because if they're a bit older they get to choose. And we don't really want a mirror facing the window because any energy that comes in is going to bounce out, and we don't really want a mirror facing the bed, because then when they're trying to sleep they've got that mirror portal energy swirling around, the same as a television facing the bed will do the same thing, quite like a headboard up against a wall, because that's going to make them feel supported. And, like you said at the beginning, we don't really want what's called the coffin position. We don't want the feet to be facing the door, but we do want to see the door so that we're not feeling like who's coming in without us seeing. So we want to be able to see the door, but not with our feet by the door.
Frank:Okay, we got that one covered.
Kate:In an adult's bedroom we don't want, want photos only of adults and maybe a sexy embrace or something that's to do with love, and we don't want any family photos or pet photos.
Frank:But in children's bedrooms we do in our in our bedroom, we have a photo of lauren giving me a piggyback ride. Is that it's?
Kate:fine, it's fun. It's fun Anything that involves love, romance or fun.
Lauren:Okay, we have mountains above our bed, like the three, a trio of mountains.
Frank:It's like an artistic rendition of mountains. It's more of art.
Kate:So what do mountains symbolize for you Like?
Lauren:adventure and like beauty yeah.
Kate:I wouldn't have it above your head, because anything above your head can again, it's only a problem if it's a problem can disrupt your sleep. Sometimes mountains are good for support, but they can also be seen as blocks as well. So I probably wouldn't have a mountain picture in the bedroom ideally. However, in feng shui it's especially modern feng shui, the one that I've learned with my brilliant teacher Kimberly it's also like something. So I personally would see mountains although they do come in feng shui um as support, as also a little bit of a block.
Kate:So, because I know that that's what it would represent for you, it represents something beautiful, so you've got a different spin to it to me. So that is kind of override. If there was something where it's like, oh no, mountains are a no-no, because you love it, it would override it there. So the modern feng shui is more like. It has to fit with you, it has to be comfortable for you. I just wouldn't have it above your bed, above your head there, and I would have it somewhere where, maybe where you could see it if it reminds you of joy and beauty. Um, but anything above the head can be disruptive with sleep there hmm, how do you do you sleep?
Lauren:Do you sleep both? I sleep very well, this guy honestly, this guy I haven't slept well, since we got here, which is interesting.
Kate:That's interesting.
Frank:Yeah, but we also. You know what? What's funny is that we have a mirror facing our bed and then out of going out of a like a sliding glass door. So we were in the worst sandwich between a door and a mirror, and I think and I've been saying please put that mirror in the hallway. And I'm like it's a whole thing. I got to install it. I'm going to move it.
Kate:Yeah, I would, or just cover it up for the minute. When you go to bed, just just put a cloth over it or something that could be disrupting the energy there are. There are things I mean it can get slightly complicated, which we don't want, but there are things where, um, both of you will have your own personal number, your own personal elements and the place where it's going to be really comfortable for you and the other ones probably unless you're exactly the same numbers um, where you're going to have your best place to sleep, and then the other one's going to have their best place to sleep. My best place to sleep is completely different position to my husband's. As far as the numbers go, one of us is going to lose out.
Kate:So it's about again on paper. Old-fashioned feng shui would be like well, he, that's his prime position, he needs to be there. But you need to be there. That's not practical, so you have to work in a way where you're a little bit flexible with yours. If you've got things under the bed shoes, I would remove that. I would change the mirror, see if that makes a difference and maybe move that picture. Just see if that makes a difference. If you're sleeping, that's all good. It would probably be that your energies in that room aren't aligned, but there's things that you can do about that.
Frank:I'm going to do the classic'm gonna I'm gonna paint a red line down the middle of our room, like it really sounds like a big part of feng shui is to protect what you're exposed to essentially if everything in your, in your immediate surroundings, has like a, a deep meaning or an energetic vibration like you've really got to be more aware of that instead of pretending like everything was just fine and like got to be more aware of that instead of pretending like everything was just fine and like what inanimate.
Lauren:Yeah, yeah, I'm obsessing about everything.
Kate:Now I'm looking at our kitchen like once you, it's a blessing in the curse, once you know, you can't unknow it, you can't unknow it. And then why is my husband mad? Because I'm like what do you think you're doing? You can't do that. Um, and then if I leave a bag out or something, he'll be like is that good feng shui?
Lauren:oh, no, using it against you oh, I'm gonna.
Frank:That's the book I'm gonna write. I'm gonna call it feng shui, uh weaponized, where I use it against everybody to pick up their stuff once and for all. That's funny. So okay, you. It seems like there's a lot of numerology associated with Feng Shui.
Kate:There is, but not in the same sense. So numerology is completely separate and Feng Shui has its own. Well, the flying stars ones, that I think, has its own numbers and there's like a grid, there's a nine. So the home is split into nine areas Wealth, love, health, career, travel, et cetera. And in those areas when we do the floor plan, when I look at somebody's floor plan, I'm looking at when the house was built or when it's had a new roof either either, and that gives me the year that it was built, which gives me a certain number, and I'm marrying that number up with the cycle that we're in at the moment, I'm marrying that up with the year that we're in and that creates another number and these numbers get floated over these grids. So we end up with three to four different numbers over these grids and it's those number combinations that tell me what remedies you need. So, for example, I did a client recently and I already knew that her husband was having legal problems connected to his brother and I knew that they were having a lot of arguments in the home. And when I did her number grid, literally one of the numbers came to. The positive aspect when they have the remedies in was that it was going to neutralize and be very successful, particularly for her career. But if it wasn't remedied, the number combination came to um, legal problems and arguments with outside influences, especially brothers, and I was like oh my god, and I phoned her straight away, left a voice message, said you're never going to believe this. Blah, blah, blah. I cannot wait until we've done your home and you've put these remedies in. It's going to be such a game changer for you.
Kate:So the numbers tell me what the problem is and how we can fix it. And it's fixed using the five elements. So it could be water, it could be earth, it could be metal, it could be fire, could be red earth there. So there's different elements that will, and wood as well. So there's different elements that will balance it out.
Kate:So, like I said, my south, at my money area, the southwest, southeast needs fire. Now I'd not long decorated with some blue cushions, which is water, so they went and in came some orange instead. Locally is quite neutral, so it still matched um. And in my north last year I needed the fire, but this year I needed earth, which is great because earth is all crystals. So I was like I could just put a load of crystals there. So the remedies are very simple.
Kate:The hardest remedy is metal, but and it's done with weights and it doesn't have to be on show, they can be in a basket, um, where it's not quite so obvious. There some things you might want on show but it doesn't. You wouldn't know when you walk into home, you wouldn't necessarily know that it's had feng shui, weird remedies. In my home I've got some weird stuff. I had, um, I had the cable guy come out and he he said when he left he said I noticed those red bricks at the bottom of your stairs in the basket. Can I ask what that's about? And I was like, oh, I needed red earth in my southwest area. And he was just like, oh, I see myself.
Frank:Well, I don't know.
Kate:It's very subtle and lots of things can be used for it oh, this is so interesting.
Frank:Oh no, I want to know everything about this I feel like this is. This is lightening me up this is tickling something for lauren this really is.
Kate:Yeah, I absolutely love it. And um, yeah, on the the opportunities that my husband and my son have had, even though they don't believe in it they think it's just a coincidence doing things in our hallway which represents your um opportunities, your front door, in your hallway, it's just yeah, just amazing this year's been that everybody could do a feng shui to initially. Here's a few tips. So we, with manifestation, it works on a vibration. So we're taught you know there's so much about manifestation from the Law of Attraction book and we're taught to just put it out to the universe and then it will come. But if we don't really believe that, or if we don't feel that we're valued enough or that we deserve it, it's going to come from a place that's a bit knotty, so it's not going to be smooth, it's not going to attract if we really don't believe it and we really don't live it. So we have to not just send that thought out but actually live it and believe it as well. So, anything to do with manifestation, we really have to believe at our core. If there's a slight doubt, then the universe will pick that up and that again is like when things are in alignment with you, there won't be any doubt and there won't be any knots. It will just, it will just work. The little tips I can give everybody for feng shui is um, no fake flower, no fake plants or fake flowers. They are literally dead energy or stale or stagnant energy. Um, ideally we want plants that grow upwards, because the energy grows up. If they grow downwards, we could get depleted energy. Okay, red ribbons, just a small red ribbon, tied on your sinks in your bathrooms and toilets uh, kitchen and bathroom and that will slow the money going down the drain because the water is linked to money. So by tying a little red ribbon on the sink underneath and the pipes will slow that down. Oh, okay, keep in your toilet lid seat down. Again, same thing it will slow the money going. The only door in the house to really be shut all the time is the bathroom and the? Um toilet doors every other. It's good to have them open to let the energy flow. Nothing broken, light bulbs fixed and everything is in as good working order that it can be Certainly, like I said, having things around you that bring you joy, nothing that's going to bring a bad memory or uncomfortable feeling. Your hallway is your opportunity, or your or your entrance sorry is your opportunity. So it's really good, especially on the first of the month, to give your front door a nice, good, clean.
Kate:Um, I always use cinnamon, but if you've got pets you might want to throw a cinnamon stick. But over the threshold, on the first of every month I blow a piece, a bit of cinnamon and just say, where the cinnamon blows, abundance flows. And I do that in my work and in my shop and in my home. And the entrance is what's called the mouth of chi. So that's where we get things coming in, good things coming in. So we don't want a mirror facing your front door. So because as soon as you open your front door, if that's the first thing you see, the energy is going to come in, but it's going to bounce back out again. So you might find the opportunities come in, but they don't really go anywhere.
Frank:The hallway but it's like our doors here like it opens up and then we have a mirror here.
Kate:So you walk past me? Yeah, can you see your door open from the mirror? Potentially, yeah, if. If you can, that means that so can the energy. So if your front door is open and you can see the mirror, then the energy will bounce straight back out. So you ideally want to just put the mirror to the other side so this game of energy is like billiards, like it's.
Frank:It's even if it's at an angle. You hit an angle, it's going to bounce out everywhere and all that stuff.
Kate:Yeah, and there are good things that you can do. So because it's the mouth of cheer. We want the energy to come in If we've got a lot of windows at the back of the stairs or rugs or plants in the hallway. Not too many, no clutter in the hallway, but just enough just to slow the energy down if your front door faces a back door or a window. So there's a few little tips just to get people going.
Frank:First of all, I need to get some energy speed bumps in here. Yeah, we gotta slow it down I've got the same.
Kate:As soon as I open my front door, I can see my back door. So I've got um a piece of furniture where I've got some crystals and some plants on, because that slows it down. I've also got a mat um and a runner to slow it down and some crystals at the bottom of the stairs.
Frank:Oh, okay, well, this, this, this like dresser thing we have behind us. It's a hutch that we have our front doors over here and our back doors over there and that's almost in the way.
Kate:There's plants and crystals on it and all kinds of stuff that will be enough to slow it down, okay okay, phew something to be able to get people in happy in their homes, happy in their lives, supported.
Kate:That's what we're here for. Everybody says you know what's my purpose? Your purpose is to be happy. Your purpose is to feel like you're fulfilled. It's not necessarily and it might be for some to earn £1,000 an hour or to like have the biggest house in the world. Your purpose is so simple. It's just to be happy, and that should start from within being happy with you yourself, but certainly being happy with your home. That's all you need. If you've got a happy home, happy within happy family, you're rich beyond your dreams anyway.
Frank:Then what happens if someone has multiple homes? What if you have a two-story house where it's kind of the same? Yeah, it won't matter.
Kate:So in the, whether it's two story, three story, four story, whatever remedies you do downstairs, you just duplicate over the stories and exactly because you're still going to have north, south, east, west, exactly the same. So you just do the same thing. Um, if you've got multiple homes, then it would, because the home is all based on when, what year, the home was built. You just, um would redo it for those different homes there.
Lauren:They'd all have a different, different numbers, different okay, and so the home has a number and then the people in it have their own number. Yes, and that kind of tells you where.
Kate:Yeah, the personal people, personal power, number um, that never. So once you've got that, that's really you know, you've got that. That won't change, whereas the house numbers change every February. Now, every February doesn't mean that you need a whole analysis done, because it's already been done. All you need is the remedies. So it takes about an hour to do those remedies, whereas the home analysis takes about three weeks to do, two weeks to do, and then I work with somebody for about three months because we want to make sure that it's right. There are some things that just need a bit of tweaking when we do the remedies, but the top-up one each year it takes me about an hour. So once you've had the whole lot done, you don't need that, you just need it every February.
Kate:The top-up, the people one that is brilliant for finding out where your success area is, so the best place that you could either, if you're working from home be, or the colors that you wear, the best colors that are going to work for you, for success and for job interviews or for doing networking, doing talks, doing podcasts. But also it tells you the colors that could drain you as well. So it just tells you. It's a whole range of colors. It's not just red or pink. It'll be a whole range of colors that are going to support you, colors that are going to enhance and then colors that are going to drain you as well, and that can go into things like where you want to sit so much in home, the best place for you to sit, or the best place for your office to be, which would be your success area.
Kate:There, again, there's different layers, but it can get complicated when you live with other people and their best position is facing the telly that way, but your best position is facing the telly that way. So I don't tend to go too much in over-complicating it. You don't need it. Once you know your colors and you know the remedies, that's all you really need to know. There's a lot of gimmicky stuff with it.
Frank:Let's, let's. I know someone who only wears black and because he hates he hates fashion, he tries to free up his mental space, to not think about what colors he's going to wear that day. Now let's say for some, some loser like that, the if they were to, let's say, if they knew what color they should be wearing, if they were to wear like a pendant or a ring, would that cover the bases or are they still just toast because they uh?
Kate:it's interesting with the black because black is a. Although it's a watercolor, it's it is a quieter. So if somebody has got a lot of energy or they want to, um, not necessarily be seen, black is quite a good color to water down. However, it is also a dominant color. It's like authority color and a lot of people wear black suits when they used to go into all the meetings. So there's a power color with black, but also a watering down color with black as well, and you've got to be comfortable. You have still got to be comfortable.
Kate:You can definitely enhance it with I don't know scarves black as well, and you've got to be comfortable. You have still got to be comfortable and you can definitely enhance it with I don't know scarves or hats or accessories maybe not scarf accessories. You could enhance it, but it won't be the same, but it will be better than you know. If you want to wear black, but maybe wear like if just say your color is earth, let's just say, whoever it is, their color is earth. Um, so earth could be whoever it is, their color is earth, so earth could be like this type of color. Earth could be ranging from browns, beiges, even some greens, so you might wear like a green or earthy t-shirt underneath it, so you've still got your protective black.
Frank:You feel safe in the black but you've got your power color underneath.
Kate:I have a lot of homework to do. You can also wear colored pants just to, so you know you don't need to wear them. You've got your power there.
Frank:I will say. I mean, I'm wearing my what I call my space underwear right now, so it looks like the Aurora Borealis and I love it so much, and it's the only thing that's colorful on me.
Lauren:Well, it's the only thing that's colorful on me and well, I have completely somehow taken on a very similar like not all black, but a lot of black as well, and I've recently been like I need to change that because I think it's I don't know, it's bringing me down or something. But yeah, it's, I don't know it's bringing me down or something but yeah, it's a safe color.
Kate:Yeah, it is a safe color and it's slimming and it's practical and and it goes with everything, so it is a safe color. So it's not to say you can never not wear it, but it's just being mindful that if you were going to go for an interview or if you were going to go um for something where you wanted to be known or stood out, then that would be better to wear your power colour. But if you just want to mince around at home, you could still stay wearing your black there. It's interesting, though, that you're becoming aware that you want to get out of that, and that, again, might be to do with the new home that you're in, that you do want to bring a bit more light to your life, that you do want to bring a bit more light to your life, that you do want to bring a bit more vitality to your life.
Kate:There I've got, I think it's about it's 11 pound I don't know what that is in dollars, probably about 15, 16 dollars, I'm not sure sounds about right. A download which will tell you your personal colors. It's available. Well, it will be available next week. The bad news is my website's down, but hopefully within the next week it will be all up and there's a whole bunch of different resources, and they all range from 11 pounds to 22 pounds. Some of them are free as well, and there's a lot of tips for lots of areas on there. There is, yeah, lots of different things, not just Feng Shui, but also tarot and also psychic things that people can have access through via download. So how do you?
Lauren:how do you find your number? Is that like a test on your website or is that something you can google and like calculate yeah, no, I'd need to do.
Kate:Oh no, so your personal number? You mean? So through the download? Yeah, it tells you how to do it. It's super easy and it's on your date of birth, there which is on a grid, and it tells you, tells you your date of birth, and then it will have your number if you're male or your number if you're female, and then it gives you the list of what that number means, what that personality means. Also, in that is your Chinese sign, what that means, and also how you can work out your personal tarot card. Everybody's got their own personal tarot card as well. Mine's number nine, the hermit, or based on your date of birth. So all of that is in with this download, which is 11 pounds.
Frank:Wait. So this is a really good time to just give plugs and stuff. Are you okay with that?
Lauren:Yeah, but I have so many. I have so many more questions, but okay.
Frank:I think I think you're going to hear from Lauren. Could you tell everybody real quick just where to find you what you're working on?
Kate:Yeah, the best thing while my website's down. So my website is normally called katemaycouk. That may have to change to katemayuk if we can't get the domain name. That's the problem with it.
Kate:But, the best thing to do is to. I'm on Instagram under kate may modern day mystic and that's my favorite platform, and I'm on I have a facebook group called make kate may modern day mystic very active in that group. So both of those platforms um, you can get hold of me. I do, like I say, reading every single day on instagram. I've got stuff on YouTube. There's learning, tarot learning and, yeah, lots of things on YouTube. Same handle, kate May Modern Day Mystic. And then, as soon as the website is ready and the downloads are ready, it will be announced on either one of those platforms the Facebook group or the Instagram.
Lauren:Kate, you are an absolute delight.
