East End Fellowship is a community of Christians located in Richmond Virginia with the goal of seeing every person become a disciple of Jesus and live in the joy and justice of God’s kingdom. Pastor Nathan preaches the initial sermon of the sermon series, “Do the Bible,” a phrase inspired by James 1:19-27. This sermon looks at the Apostle James’ encouragement for believers to be doers of the word, instead of hearers only. In a country in which the business of operating institutional churches can replace an emphasis on embodying the church in our daily lives, this sermon is a reminder that true discipleship is about how we follow Jesus tangibly and care for the most marginalized. The sermon then turns to how our ability to care for others can be rooted in our willingness to allow God to care for us.
