What’s up SEO pros! Welcome to another jam-packed episode of the SEO Knowledge Bomb podcast. I’m your host Paul, and today I’m breaking down all the juicy strategies and tips from my interview with rank and rent expert Mike Martin.

With over 10 years lead gen and local SEO experience under his belt, Mike has mastered the blueprint for getting clients calling. He’s even built multiple successful software tools automating the lead gen process.

So get ready to take some notes as I extract all the actionable tactics from Mike’s proven playbook.

First up – how does Mike consistently rank his local lead gen sites on page one of Google? His strategy is pure user intent optimization genius.

Rather than try to rank a major city keyword like “plumber Miami” right away, Mike builds additional pages targeting super low competition long tail versions of that keyword. We’re talking only 50-300 monthly searches.

He gets these niche pages ranking fast. Then Google sees real user behavior with people finding and staying on the site. This signals authority and trust, powering up rankings for the main target page. Way faster results than trying to just rank the main page directly.

Next I asked Mike how he first got started with SEO and learned the ropes. He said it was total necessity back when he was doing locksmithing. Being at the top of Google was literally the difference between getting jobs or going out of business.

In the early days, keyword stuffing and cramming in as much content and links as possible worked great. He even built his first 900 page site completely by hand in HTML since he didn’t know WordPress existed yet!

The only real resources Mike used were SEO for Dummies and good old fashioned trial and error.

Now on to some of Mike’s signature software tools that automate lead gen.

First is Magic Page Plugin, which auto-generates geo-targeted pages around a main site. So you can easily build pages optimized for all the nearby cities and towns.

Next, Lead Simplify is all about distributing and selling leads on autopilot. Mike said it can even call local businesses directly to take leftover leads if you don’t have any buyers yet. Genius.

For easy schema markup, there’s WP Schema Plugin that lets you one click import and export. And his Page Rewriter tool uses AI to generate content that passes as human written. Sneaky!

So with Mike’s lead generation history, I had to ask about his Hybrid Lead Gen Method. He gave an awesome overview.

First, you focus on a specific industry niche rather than something broad like general plumbing.

Then use existing clients to refer others in different cities for an affiliate percentage.

Lead Simplify takes care of distributing the leads automatically. And a brillant tactic is giving away free leads and jobs to local businesses to make them dependent on you for more.

Now when it comes to picking a profitable niche for this whole strategy, Mike said it comes down to two things – high search volume or high value.

Low value but high search volume can still work great when you automate lead distribution and sell for cheap. Then for high value and low volume, you can charge a lot more but it’s tougher to scale up.

Alright, now we’re getting into the nitty gritty of building out Rank and Rent websites step-by-step.

Mike said first you need to add your geo pages around the main site using his Magic Page Plugin we just covered.

Then it’s all about good content structure, fast load times, and enough long-form content.

Again that real user behavior is key, so you want low bounce rates. And for local you can rank without a ton of backlinks initially.

For link building Mike is a master at finding expired and broken links to resuscitate. He scrapes Wikipedia, Yellow Pages, niche directories, and old business sites that he can 301 redirect to his money site.

Sneakily, he also scrapes competitors and steals any broken links he can find pointing to their sites.

And of course regularly writing long-form content targeting relevant keywords.

Now for the good stuff on how to start raking in rental income from your money site.

Mike said to start small and build a simple site to rent out as a demo for local businesses.

At the same time, develop lots of mini niche sites in a PBN structure to funnel power to your main site.

Then you can radius target phone numbers to local businesses when renting a site out.

Aim for at least $1000 a month minimum per site for this rental model.

But Mike’s favorite method to maximize income is using a booking fee model.

Here you take a deposit over the phone, give a percentage to an affiliate, and then give away the job for free to build dependence.

The key to big profits is specializing on a niche within a niche. So not just plumbing, but a specific service like boiler installation. The more specialized, the more you can charge.

Wrapping up, I asked Mike what one piece of advice he’d give someone just starting out in SEO today.

His answer – go “inch wide mile deep” and focus on dominating a niche within a broader industry.

The income potential when you become the authority on something specialized is so much greater than just targeting general plumbing for example.

You can also rank much faster and change higher monthly rates.

Well that’s a wrap! Mike Martin truly gave us the blueprint for local lead gen success with smart automation and recurring revenue models.

The name of the game is niche domination combined with his innovative software tools.

Go forth and crush it in the world of Rank and Rent! If you got value from this episode, make sure to subscribe and leave a review. I’ll catch you next time.
