Hey everyone, welcome back to another episode of the SEO Knowledge Bomb podcast. Today I had the pleasure of interviewing Matt Diggity, an absolute legend and expert in the SEO space. Matt has built multiple successful SEO agencies, founded the popular Chiang Mai SEO Conference, and runs a thriving YouTube channel with over 100k subscribers.

So in this episode, I wanted to break down some of Matt's best tips, strategies and insights for dominating with SEO in 2023.

First off, Matt emphasized the importance of building a personal brand and creating content if you want to grow an SEO business. While blogging may not be as effective anymore, platforms like YouTube, Facebook groups, and podcasts are great for establishing yourself as a thought leader. Don't be shy - just start creating content consistently. Your confidence and skills will improve over time.

When it comes to link building, Matt looks at it in two categories: high volume relevant links and low relevance high authority links. For relevant links, focus on scalable tactics like guest posts and outreach. Then supplement with high authority links through digital PR, HARO, and creative strategies like affiliate partnerships. Basically, develop a diversified link building approach.

For affiliate SEO, Matt stressed that niche selection is critical. You want to avoid oversaturated niches like laptops and instead look for untapped opportunities. Be prepared to invest heavily upfront before profitability. And once your sites are established, look to flip them so you can free up resources and compound growth.

In terms of SEO scaling, Matt advised to hire A players who can eventually take over tasks you currently handle. Learn to delegate responsibilities rather than just tasks. And constantly look for things to outsource so you can focus on high-level strategy.

When it comes to staying on top of SEO updates, Matt does monthly news roundups, participates in advanced SEO testing groups, and leverages his network through events like the Chiang Mai Conference.

Matt also shared excellent insights on managing an SEO agency. He emphasized that you can't just hire people like yourself. Understand different roles like project managers, content managers, link builders, outreach specialists, etc.

And provide employees with clear responsibilities and room to grow, not just repetitive tasks. This encourages responsibility and advancement.

Finally, some rapid fire tips from Matt:

  • Write content for the search engine, not just generic advice like "write quality content." Tailor your content specifically for ranking.
  • Google cares more about search goal completion than dwell time now. So answer the query quickly.
  • The oldest ranking factor is still backlinks. Nothing moves the needle more for rankings.
  • With AI content generation, we may lose some search traffic but can also 10x content production. It's a huge opportunity.
  • The only way to become an SEO pro is to just start doing it. You learn by getting your hands dirty and trying things.

So those were some of my biggest takeaways from chatting with Matt Diggity. His advice and strategies are next level, whether you're just getting started in SEO or running a full-fledged agency.
