This is Soul Therapy. I'm your host, Jen Hully, a professional photographer and therapeutic creativity coach obsessed with empowering others to build creatively fulfilling lives. This week we're talking all about you, why you are the root source of all answers to everything you seek. We're going to talk about intuition, intuitive obedience, and how the coaching industry is a little bit fucked up right now, shall we say. And I want to share some stories. I want to share some stories about intuitive obedience and how it has saved my ass or almost burnt my ass many times in the past. And the intention behind this episode is to remind you that you are the spark of change within your life, that the answers that you seek lie within, and that the secret to life is to cultivate the experiences and the energetic states that allow you to experience the safety and the freedom and the confidence to hear your inner voice and to act on it. And before we go any further in, you know, we start every episode with a tarot card reading. We pull a single card and I always ask for it to guide the conversation that we're going to have. And I do this because I love tarot. I read tarot every single day. It's a big part of who I am and what I do. It's a big part of the work that I do. If we work together in a one-to-one coaching relationship, or you join like a group program of mine, there's gonna be tarot and Oracle in it because I believe it is one of the many, many tools available to us that when used appropriately. And when I say appropriately, I mean intuitively, it is one of the best tools for helping us tap into our intuition and to understand and connect with and hear and process our feelings, our fears, our thoughts, our desires. But drum roll, please, the card was the hermit. Like, come on. We're talking about finding the answers within and how when you learn to tap into your intuition, you know, everything starts to flow. It doesn't become easy, but it starts to flow. And the hermit is it's a major arcana card, which means it's a big ass lesson. It's one that's got a big message. It's not about the little day-to-day things like where where you get your coffee or if you take a vacation or whatever, or if you like get a job or don't get a job somewhere. It's about big life-altering themes and big soul path lessons and things that are like part of your journey here. And so The Hermit, it's all about solitude and going within and like retreating into yourself to find the wisdom that you're seeking. And I want to read you a little paragraph from this book that I've got by Tina Gong. It's just called Tarot. Connect with yourself, develop your intuition, and live mindfully. And this one paragraph, it says, As the hermit, the fool, tries to find the wellspring of wisdom that lies within. The hermit retreats into the dark alone and is unafraid. His lantern shines light on the most uncomfortable of places, revealing secrets, hidden motivations, and unresolved fears. He knows that some answers come only when the quiet settles in, when he has had the time to process the events of his journey so far. And this is what we're talking about, folks. This is what we're talking about today is about getting into a state of flow so that you can tap into mindfulness and awareness and start to like clear the clutter out of your brain, start to hear the messages that your soul may be whispering or screaming at you, and to use that information to craft a life that is going to not be easy, right? Life is not easy. We don't sign up to come down to earth to like just have a wonderful time every single day. You know, we come here to learn. And in that learning is pain and struggle and hardship, but there's also a lot of joy and love and freedom and positive things. And so we come down here to learn that, and we can only do this by going within. We have to tap into our hermit. We have to be able to hear what that voice inside of us is saying. And there's so many things that we can talk about. And like, full disclosure, I had notes written up for my episode here, but like weird things happen in this house. You know, energy, right? Like I believe in energy and energetic forces and whether they're guides or family members that have passed or just things hanging around your house. They like to play with your electronics. And I shit you not. I had my notes and I was like just about to hit record, and my computer went bananas. And the keyboard started doing things on its own. It deleted everything, and it like just kept spacing, it just kept spacing things out. It's like and it was making things further and further and further down the page. And I was like, stop, stop, stop. Like, I don't want to lose my work, and then it just deleted everything. And so I was like, all right, you don't want me to go from a script, you want me to just sort of intuitively guide this episode. Why not? I can do it. And I just thought it was one of those funny things where like the universe is like, you want to talk about listening to your inner voice and not following a set path and not following like a set of rules or steps that are gonna guarantee you an outcome. Let's live it as we do it. So that is amazing. And so before we jump into today's episode, I just want to address something that's really important and acknowledge that we can get stuck in this feeling of like being trapped in this like cycle of like same shit, different day, you know, and where we're unplugged from life, our joy factor's not very high, we don't really know what we should be doing. Like we know who we aren't, but we don't know who we are. And we find ourselves stuck in a space where we're not taking care of our needs or we're not doing the things that fill us up the way we expect them to be. And sometimes it's from like logistical blocks or self-doubt or lack of confidence, and it's really, really frustrating. And the frustration can mount to a point where it's like we just stop doing stuff, anyways. Like we stop trying and we're just like, okay, whatever, it's not working. You know, and that's not the way to go. That's called learned helplessness, and that's a whole other conversation. But staying stuck is not the natural way of the universe. We should be growing and flowing and moving and changing. Every single minute of every single day, you are different than the person you were before. So things should be changing in your external experience because staying stuck goes against your natural rhythm and it goes against your natural flow. And that is why things feel so crappy and confusing. And I want to remind you that I'm here to offer you a lifeline, to shine a flashlight on your journey and to extend a hand and give you the opportunity to transform your journey through one-to-one personalized coaching. And it's completely personalized, as you'll hear in this episode, why I don't follow a set script with my coaching programs and why I think the coaching industry is a little bit dolulu in that it likes to tell people that like, follow my morning routine, do this and this and this, and like you'll manifest what you want. And there's a million ways to do life, and there's a million ways to feel about the life that you're doing, and everything is so nuanced. And so through personalized coaching, we will dive deep into you, the little microcosm that you're building in your life. What is the universe that you've constructed for you, your reality? What is your truth? What's happening that could be holding you back? And we will explore ways that you can empower yourself to take action, to live a more fulfilling life, to feel like you're in a more authentic expression of who you are at a fundamental level and like to create that sense of safety to do it, but also the energetic fire to do it. There's there's two sides to the coin, right? We have to create a sense of being safe enough to explore. We have to clear out the mental clutter so we can hear our inner voice, and then we need to work on confidence to take action to move forward. So, my soul seekers, I am talking to you basically. And if you are ready to break free from whatever it is, whatever shit that's been holding you back and stopping you from living this potential that you feel so called towards, or even if you don't know what that is, but you're like, this is not working, and I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing, but I know it's not this. I invite you to just schedule a complimentary call with me today. You can go to my website, which is jenniferhully.com, and you can go to the coaching page and you can learn more, and you can book a free call, or you can just tap the link in the show notes and book a time for us to talk. And I cannot wait to hear from you and connect with you and learn all about where you've been, where you are, and where you'd like to go. But without further ado, let's dive into the episode today, right? We are talking about intuitive obedience, inner voice, and finding your personal power. And so I guess we can start with like, what is intuition, right? And there's so many um definitions or ways to look at intuition, but I look at intuition as the spark of light that is within you, that is your inner truth. It what is it's what is true and real and honest and pure for you. It's what you like, it's what you don't like, it's what you need, what helps, what hinders. It's the source, energy of like your soul and your being and your personality and how it's trying to express itself. And your intuition is this part of you that is like so at the fundamental core of who you are that you come, your expression outward stems from this, right? And in order to live a life that feels like it's flowing, that feels like it's ticking the boxes for you, and you feel like a sense of enjoyment because that is so important, and we do deserve to enjoy our life, even when it's hard. But in order to be able to do that, we have to be able to tap in to who we are, to hear our inner voice. Our intuition speaks to us in so many different ways. It can come literally like claire audience, where you can hear words in your head. It can be um clairvoyance, like flashes of images that you see. It can be feelings in your body. Uh, we talked about this in one of my posts on Instagram recently about how your body speaks to you and do you listen to it? And so, yes, intuition is the inner voice that's in your head, like one of the million people that are living rent-free up there, right? Which is why it can be really hard to hear it sometimes because there's often a lot of chitter-chatter up there. But there are so many ways to tap into your intuition and to connect with it and to, like I said, register it, hear it, process it, and then support yourself to take action to basically do what it wants you to do. Right? Your intuition is there to guide you. It wants you on your path, it wants you experiencing the things that you're seeking. It doesn't want you on the struggle bus feeling like shit every day. No. Like when we strip away all the shit and the stress and the to-dos and the programming and the like conditioning and the fear and the trauma and all the crap that you go through from the minute you're born until you know to where you are now. When we strip all that away, the core essence of who you are wants you to be happy. And it wants you to be living in a way that is in alignment with who you are, what your personality, you know, expresses like, what you like doing, what your natural gifts are. It wants you to feel fulfilled. It does. It wants you to be happy, and we want to be in that state of flow and growth, right? Now, a little like side note is that like tuning into your intuition and taking the steps and doing the things that are in line with your authentic expression of yourself doesn't always mean you'll be happy. Like I know I just said you'll be happy, you will be happy. You'll have moments of stress or pain or discomfort, but when you zoom back and you look at your life as a whole story, you will have a sense of happiness and fulfillment. And so I talk about this term like intuitive obedience, and it doesn't mean like being a mindless robot being like, I hear this, I must do this. But it's about showing up for your intuition and showing up for yourself. And by showing up, I mean, like I said, doing the damn thing that it wants you to do. And as I hinted to earlier, there's different ways that it speaks to you. Sometimes it screams at you, and we we are so powerful, we are the nucleus or the center of our own experience in our own universe, right? We have the ability, meaning like we have the power to determine what we're going to experience. And I say this meaning we can ignore certain nudges or certain downloads or knowings that we get, and then go a different way by which then we've chosen a more difficult path or a path with more resistance or more struggle or more hardship, which then, you know, in effect changes our reality because now we're going to experience X, Y, Z instead of A, B, C, which is gonna affect how we feel, and when our feelings then affect what, you know, how we view the world and what we think is possible. And so our intuition is that super, super powerful wand that we have. And if we can get into a space where we hear it and we trust ourselves and we feel safe, like I keep saying the word safe, because nervous system regulation is such a big part of this work. It's not about like hearing the messages and then diving off the deep end of being like, I'm quitting my job today, because if that scares you, you're gonna like land in a big old heap of like, what the fuck? And then you're gonna panic, and then you're gonna shut down and you're not gonna receive the outcome that you expect. And then you'll be like, see, followed my intuition, it didn't work. Fuck that. I'm never doing it again. Uh and that's not where we want to go. But I want to share with you um some personal stories first of what it has looked like for me in my life to connect with my intuition, to receive intuitive guidance in different forms, and to either follow through or not follow through. And I will be the first to say, I have to work at this every day. And you will have to work at it every day. Everybody will have to work at this because we will default back to our programming of autopilot and tuning out like mindfulness and being aware and having a clear mind and body so that we can receive messages and think clearly is the ultimate state, but it's not our default state. We have to work to access it and then remain in it consistently. It's just it's a fact of life. And so I have, like I said, I don't get it right all the time. And I can look back on things in my past where I'm like, oh yeah, I did not listen to that. And oh, look what happened there, right? And see how it sort of became a turning point or a fork in the road that opened up a set of other possibilities and a set of other experiences, which then, you know, everything, it's that ripple effect, right? And so I'll start off with like let's start off with like a positive one because that's always good, right? So what happened, uh when was this? This was when I was in Portugal. So just like a week or two ago, I was in the Airbnb and I was making pasta for dinner because I have a four-year-old and like all he eats is pasta. Not all, but like one of his five favorite foods. And I was making pasta, and one of the ways that my intuition or my guides or like whatever energetic source energy connects with me is like I will hear words in my head. That's my intuition talking to me. And I was making this pasta holding this pot of water, and the way the kitchen was set up was like the the oven was on one side, and you had to sort of step over the kitchen to the other side was the sink, right? It wasn't side by side each other, like it was on opposite walls. And I picked up this pot, it was like just before I picked it up. I went to put my hands on it, and I heard, you need to be careful because you're gonna burn your leg. And I was like, What? And I heard like the pot's gonna fall and the water's gonna burn your leg. And I'm like, and I had been working on really tuning into my intuition and just doing whatever I heard and not questioning it, because normally I would be like, No, it's not. What are you talking about? Like, how is this pot? I'm not gonna drop it, especially now that you've told me I'm not gonna drop it. Like, but I was like, Okay, I hear you, and so I like held, I had made sure I had both oven mitts on, and I held it out and I held it really far away from me, and I like walked over and I poured it in the sink, and I was like, okay, and then I immediately turned around and put it back on the uh the stove. And I was like, nothing happened. What are you talking about? And then the handle fell off like right away. The handle just went boom and fell, and I'm like, ah, okay. Like, I'm like, that could have very easily have broken while I was holding it, and it would normally the way I hold pasta is like really close to me, not the way I was doing it then, like with my arms like stretched way out and like leaning far away from it. I was holding it like it was like like molten lava because I was like, I don't want to get burned. Um, and if I had been holding it the way that I normally hold it, I would have been burnt to shit. Like my legs would have just been scorched, right? And I was like, the pot was gonna fall. I was like, okay, I hear you. I hear you, you know. Um, and then I had something this weekend happen. I was driving home from a family event in it was later in the evening. It was like 10 o'clock, and it was gonna be a long drive. It was gonna be like about 90 minutes, and a good chunk of the drive was in these like rural roads where there's no um lights, not a lot of stop signs. You often get on like a country road that's just going straight for a really long time and you've got the right of way, but you come to all these cross sections where like the people that are gonna cross the road on from their road, they have a stop sign, right? So like you're just supposed to keep barreling. And I was driving for like three minutes, and I heard you have to slow down at every crossway like it's a four-way stop. And I'm like, what? And I heard it again, like, you need to treat every crossway like it's a four-way stop. I was like, okay, I'll do it. I was like, whatever. And I'm like, also that's annoying because there's a lot of these, right? And so I'm approaching, you know, I'm driving, everything's fine, there's no cars. Slow down, even though there's no stop sign for me, but the people like that would have been coming to cross the road would have had a stop sign. I slow down, I'm like, no cars, keep going. Next one, driving, slow down, no cars, keep coming. Third one comes up. I slow down, start to slow down because I can see that it's like gonna be up there. And as I'm slowing down, almost to the point where I'm like about to stop, not to stop, but like I'm getting close to it. You know what I mean? Like I'm almost there. These two cars come flying out of there. They don't stop at the stop sign, they just peel the fuck out. They're like, they must have been racing down their way, and they just like went and like pulled in front of me. And I'm like, if I had been going faster and not starting to slow down as I approached it, I probably would have been clocked. Um and I was like, it was one of these moments where I was like, holy shit, when I saw these guys like pull out, I'm like, if I had not been preparing to stop or to slow down to almost stop it there, this would have ended very, very differently. And both of those scenarios where I heard something in my head, the action it was asking me to do did not make sense. And I I don't like to wait. I don't like things to take longer than they need to. I'm like, hurry up, let's go. That's the way I am with everything. I got a lot of firepower in me and going slow and taking my time and like being overly diligent about things can kind of drive me nuts at times. So, like being really, really careful with the water is not the way I normally would be. I would be like normally multitasking and doing five things and just sort of throwing the pasta water into the sink. And there's no way in hell I would be like, I'm gonna stop at every stop thing that's supposed to be a stop sign, you know. Um, and it it it covered my ass, right? And I was like, these two things were very, very close together, and I was just like, holy shit. So it reminds me because like I think it was about a year or two or two years ago. It would be two years ago. My concept of time is a little bit fuzzy, but it was definitely not last summer, it was the summer before. And I had been working upstairs and I it was a beautiful sunny day, and I heard my my mom's car. I had been borrowing my mom's car, I think because mine was being fixed or something. Yes, now I remember my car was like busted. I remember the big car shortage. Remember when the car industry had no cars and my car had no transmission and I couldn't drive it anywhere? That was fun. But I manifested a car, an in-person car before I was supposed to, like 15 months before it was supposed to show up. I'll tell that story one day, another day. But I was in my office working and I beautiful sunny day, whatever, and I hear in my head, a storm is coming. You need to move your mom's car. And I look outside, I'm like, there's no storm coming. Like, what are you talking about? And so I didn't. I was like, no, I gotta work on this blog post or like whatever I was doing that I thought was more important than like getting out and moving the car because it was on the road and it was like telling me like you gotta move it into the driveway or at least the garage. And I didn't. I was like, whatever. And then I went out to go uh go somewhere with the car. Like hours later, and side note in that time, a thunderstorm rolled in, and I was like, Oh shit, a storm did come. I'm like, hmm, where did that come out of nowhere? And as I was like getting ready to leave, I was like, oh fuck. It told me to move the car, and I was like, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, please, please, please, please, please. And I opened the door and this tree had fallen, and I shit you not. The tree fell beside my mom's car, parallel to my mom's car. So it was like lying lengthwise beside it, and it was like three inches from the door. It literally was just like, I don't know what happened, a little tiny gust of wind maybe just blew it, so it landed beside it. But I was like, holy fucking shiz when I saw that. Cause I was like, are you kidding me? Like, why didn't you listen? And I feel like that was an opportunity where the universe was like, we're not fucking around. Like, you know, you know what you know, and you need to start believing that you know what you know. And I like I'm really bad at listening to my my intuition, or it's not that I'm bad at it. I like I said, like anyone else, I default to gaslighting myself and I default to downplaying what I know. And often this comes from like a state of like you'll know something through your intuition that you have no tangible evidence for. So what will happen is your brain will be like, this makes no fucking sense. Like, why do you think that this is even possible or gonna be true or right for you? And then your chitter chatter will start up and be like, just give them a chance or give it a chance or ignore. You don't need to do that. Like it will start coming in with all the reasons why like that part of your brain doesn't make sense. But I will argue that when you get an intuitive download about something or a knowing, and you and there's no evidence to prove, like sometimes you just get a feeling where you're like, that person, there's something wrong with that person. And I don't mean wrong, like like there's anything, there's nothing wrong with somebody, but I mean like there's something wrong with that person for me. Like there's like, don't go there. There's something, something's weird here. And you're like, how could I possibly know that? I know nothing about this person. It's because you know. It's because you know, and we don't have to get into why you know or how you know, but there's been studies that we know that we have, everybody has this sixth sense. And one of the most recent studies that I was uh reading was talking about um it's like cards. They would lift cards and show the picture of the card, and they had different symbols on them or pictures. I don't know what it was that they had on the cards, and they were measuring the people's brain waves and how the brains reacted to like when they lifted the card over and saw the picture. And then what they started to notice was that certain like faces or certain symbols triggered certain brain waves patterns, right? So they're like when they look at a star, this is what happens. When they look at a circle, this is what happens in their brain. And they started to notice that the brain patterns would light up just like a millisecond before they actually flipped the card over. And it was this like proof of like you know what's coming, even if you don't have physical evidence with your senses through like sight or something. And there's been so many different studies about intuition, and there's something where they said they're actually gonna add it. You know, when we went to school and they said the human body has five senses, like they're gonna be updating science books and what they teach children to say that we all have six senses and that your intuitive sense is your actually your most potent sense. And animals have it. It's how like animals know how to do things on their own, like give birth and like get up and walk. It's like, how do how do giraffes come out knowing how to walk? You know what I mean? We all have this inner well of wisdom and just a knowing that comes with us at birth that we can't explain, and we have to stop trying to explain it and understand it, but instead just start listening to it. And like I said, I'm not the best at listening to it at times, you know? And I've like, I remember there was a job that I took once where I like went to the place, everything looked good on paper, and I walked in and I heard there's something wrong with this place, don't go here. And I was like, that doesn't make sense. It's it looks great, everything's perfect. Like on paper, it's great. How could I possibly know there's anything wrong with this? And so I was like, all right, I'll try it. And then guess what? There was something wrong with that place. Like, you know, a year later, I was like, mm-hmm, this is right. This is what, and it was not something that I would have ever been able to guess was wrong with a place until you were in the thick of it working there. Um and with people, I've met certain people where I'm like, this isn't gonna work out. Don't see this person again, or this is not good for you. And I'm like, that doesn't make sense. How can I judge this person? I don't know anything, but then guess what? They're not good for you, you know? And it's not a case of like, oh, you didn't listen to yourself, everything's terrible. Um, because you don't have to listen right away. Like, we we don't respond immediately. We're not robots. Just because we get some information doesn't mean we have to immediately be like, no, turn left. Don't do this. Yes, like it takes us a while to process. We're human, you know what I mean? I'm taking a drink of my tea, pardon me. Um, and so we shouldn't expect perfection and precision. It's gonna be messy, right? It's gonna be messy and it's gonna be nuanced and it's gonna be trial and error, but we have to tune in to what our intuition is trying to say to us. And I said at the beginning of the episode, like the coaching industry is a little fucked up right now and a little doulu. Um, and I don't know that it's even the coaching industry or if it's like the marketing industry that's messed up right now, and whether coaches are believing that they have the answers, or if they're just thinking I have this is what I have to say to sell my program. You know, there's a lot of content that's like these exact steps to get your reel to go viral, or these are the exact things you need to do to launch your product and have, you know, six-figure months or whatever, or this is the exact morning routine that you need to do to overcome trauma, or this is exactly the meditation ritual that you need to do if you want to meet your spirit guides. Like, fuck that. That's not true. It's not true. Because if there was, if that was true in anything, every single person on the planet would be doing it, and every single person would be having the same results, and everything would be easy and free-flowing, and like, fuck yeah, and we'd be like celebrating all damn day. And it's just not true. And so any coach or any program or any course that says like do X, Y, Z, and you'll have this is delusional. And they're either delusional or they're trying to tell you, like, sell you something. And yes, I'm trying to sell you something. I have a coaching business. I try to sell coaching, I'm trying to sell coaching and courses and ideas, but I'm also trying to sell truth. Like I'm trying to get you to drink the truth of the situation, which is I don't have all the answers. You have all the answers. And I believe that a really healthy coaching relationship, whether it's with me or somebody else, like this isn't self-promotion stuff that I'm saying. This is just like take this information with you when you choose the next person that you're gonna work with. But a healthy coaching relationship is one that is not based on a power dynamic where it's like, I have the answers and I'm the expert, and I will have whatever you're seeking, and you should aspire to be like me, and I will teach you my ways, and then you get to experience exactly what I've had because that is an ego trip. What a healthy coaching relationship should look like is you know, I'm gonna hold space for you. I'm gonna hear you, and I'm gonna witness you, and I'm gonna reflect back to you what you're saying and what I'm seeing and what I'm experiencing. And I'm gonna maybe shine a light on some things that you might be ignoring or not seeing. And I might suggest to you some things to consider or try and to create that safe space to have a conversation about what things might look like if we tried XYZ and then to ride shotgun with you as you do it and put it into practice, and to be that space to sit down and have like a brainstorming session with you know, with something that we've put into practice, or to hear that like this didn't fucking work. Here's what my experience was of that. Okay, let's talk about it. What did we learn, you know? And any healthy coaching relationship should be one from like, you know, uh even power dynamic, a growth mindset, meaning we believe that there's a million ways to explore and to do and experience life, and we're gonna figure out what works for you and we're gonna be open to trying things. Your coach needs to have a growth mindset, meaning, like, I fully accept the fact that I don't necessarily know what's going to help you. I have ideas and I have a toolbox or a toolkit of resources and things that we can try. But most of all, what I have is a willingness to listen and to observe and to ask questions and to create space for whatever the next thing is going to be. And it is organic. It is organic the way it rolls out. And this is why, like when I talk about coaching, when you're working with me, I can't say to you, you know, in a 12-week program, we're gonna do this and this and this and this, and then I'm gonna like, it doesn't work like that. And if it did, I would be doing you a disservice because I would be treating you like a robot. And honestly, the only thing in life that works like that where you can put in a series of actions and get a desired result every single time, is a vending machine. I put in the money, I push C24, and the Snickers bar comes out. That's it. And frankly, this vending machine doesn't even work all the time. Like sometimes nothing comes out or it gets stuck, right? Or it's like the other thing twists and it gets stuck on the, you know what I mean? Like, there's nothing in life that works like that. So anyone that's telling you that they have all the answers is full of shit. And just like make sure your bullshit radar is on and alive and responsive to that. And so I will, how do we go about like, okay, tapping into intuition and how do we recognize it? And like I said, it can be a voice that's in your head, it can be an image. Sometimes I'll get replays of like scenes in my heads of conversations, my heads, I have one head, scenes in my head of conversations that I've had in the past or things that I've lived through, or like I wasn't figuring something out yesterday, and I heard like a sound bit in my head of something I had watched, and I was like, oh, or a song. And then it helps put the pieces together, right? We have to sort of tap into what we're hearing and seeing in our head. We need to develop processes for collecting that, like whether it's through journaling or writing. Um, automatic writing is a really interesting way. You can do it with your eyes closed where you you write a question to yourself and you just so see what comes out. I do it actually typing because my handwriting is atrocious. Again, anyone that tells you automatic writing has to be done with a pencil, not true. Not everybody can use a pencil. Does that mean people who have challenges with fine motor skills can't tap into the intuitive um power of automatic writing? No. You can do uh like free association, you can voice note to yourself and talk, you can keep notes in your notes app. Um, meditation and mindfulness is a really good way of tapping into your body. Like I said in the Instagram post, I think last week, about like how your body has uh a language and are you listening and do you know how to listen? One of the things I know that happens for me is like sometimes I wake up or in the middle of the day, I'll get this feeling of like it feels like there's bees in my chest. And when that happens, I'm like, okay, like I'm something's gonna happen. Like, I'm gonna, some information's gonna come through to my head that I'm like, oh, this is what I actually want, or oh, this is what I need. Um, so learning what like your body signals mean and what they feel like is really important. And a lot of that is like somatic somatic experiencing, which is really it's challenging. We are so in our heads and we're trained to be up in our heads, and it's way more comfortable to be up in our heads, right? So sometimes the work we do is about how to sit with your body and develop that language. Um, tarot cards, like I said at the beginning, amazing tools for developing your intuition because the way tarot cards work is they're so abstract and thematic that you put the story together, like you see the pictures and you're like almost like a comic strip. Like if you had six of them together, it paints the story, and then it's like, well, what story is that for you? And whatever comes up immediately for you is your intuition speaking to you. So it's like, what story does your brain make when presented with certain images? And that can be a way of tapping into things that you know and that are true for you that maybe consciously you're not aware of, right? Oh, and then there's the fun thing where like you'll pull the same cards over and over again. And I don't know how that works, right? Like that's sort of like woo-woo magic that I don't we don't understand and we'll never have answers to, but it does happen. Like you'll pull, you might pull the death card over and over and over again. And like, don't be paranoid, doesn't mean you're gonna die or somebody's gonna die. It means something needs to end or is coming to an end. And so just sort of knowing that and having that kind of presented to you every day can be a way to set the table for you and your brain to have a conversation of like, well, how do you feel about endings? What does that mean for you? What does that bring up? Um, how do you respond to endings? Do you have anxiety around it? Do you have regret? What have endings looked like in the past? Can endings be positive? What are the positive elements of death? You know, there's rebirth on the other side. What might that be? If you had to end one thing in your life, one dynamic, one relationship, what would it be? What would be the benefit of it? What would be the hardest thing? You know, those kind of conversations can come up. Um, and that's why I said we use tarot a lot in my work. And we'll teach I'll teach you how to use tarot as well for yourself. And art, art is so transformative as a way to tap into what's going on for you. It's also a way to just settle your mind and your body so that you can like get the chatter down in your brain and actually access this kind of wisdom that's coming in. Um, there's so many, so many, so many ways that we can learn to listen and begin to partner with ourselves. And on top of that, like dream work is fascinating. Dream work is really, really interesting because, and if you don't record your dreams, like write them down. I think it's like one of the most important things that you can do in terms of like building that vocabulary and creating that language between your intuitive self and your like rational day-to-day self. And you'll say, like, I don't remember my dreams. I don't have dreams. We all dream, we just don't all remember it. And you have to train your brain. Our brains are like hyper uh hyper-productive streamlined machines, and what that means is like it will cut out shit that it thinks is not important. So if like remembering your dreams has never been important to you, it's not going to remember them. But if you start to change that behavior and you start to value tag your dreams, meaning you're you put a lot of emphasis and importance on your dreams, even just by writing it in your notes app on your phone every morning when you wake up, your brain will be primed to more likely remember your dreams. And you will see themes, you will see things appearing in your dreams over time that have different meanings. There's also dream interpretation that you can do using um like a Youngian perspective or more a more spiritualistic perspective. I've got all these dream dictionaries that I like to use. Um, but by recording your dreams, and just like I said, a few notes, even if you don't remember anything and you're like, I remember nothing. And the next day you're like, something about my mom, something about a dog and an alligator, like just whatever you can remember. It's a muscle, it'll get bigger, you'll get better at remembering. But you'll start to see these symbols and things that evolve, and you'll be like, oh, I'm dreaming about water again. Okay, what does this mean? And you can support yourself, you know, whether it's like this is where meditation and hypnosis can be really important or sorry, really effective because it kind of re triggers the dream state in your waking state mind. So you can sort of tap back in, and I will actually remember my dreams in meditation. I'll wake up and be like, I don't remember anything. Get into a meditation, then be like, woof, like everything will just come flooding back, and I'm like, oh yeah. Okay, and then write it down, right? So um intuitive obedience, man, it is so, so important, and it is the route, it is the starting point to a happy and fulfilled life. It I think I will just say a very bold statement. I don't think you can live a life that is fulfilling and meets your needs and challenges you and promotes growth and stretches you and allows you to experience the things that you want to experience if you don't have a relationship with your intuition. And unfortunately, with like the pace of the world, it's just so easy. The pace of the world, it's so easy to forget about, it's so easy to tune out because you feel like you're doing damage control and triaging your entire day. So, like listening to your body and your mind and your soul and your heart, it's so easy to like push that off to the back burner. But it's so important to actually bring it into the spotlight and to nurture that relationship with it. And like I said, it's a process, it's a relationship, right? Like you don't meet someone for coffee and then be like, marry me the next day, right? So it's gonna take a little bit of time to nurture it. And there's different things, like I said, different things you can do to experience that and achieve that. And depending on what your goals are and what your pain points are in your life, where like the things that you feel like aren't flowing, or the things where you're like, I thought I'd feel more than this, or I thought like, you know, I thought this would be better than it is. Depending on what those like sticky areas are in your life, you will do different intuitive exercises to collect information and then put it into action to start that process of like it's those little minor tweaks. Let's change this, let's change that, let's see what happens. It's a process and it is the only way forward. And so it is a nuanced process, it's a multi-layered process, like I said, of creating space to hear yourself, creating safety in your nervous system to receive the messages, and then creating confidence and support to not throw yourself in the deep end to do something that's going to, you know, blow everything up and like make it worse for you, but to help you take just one step. I promise you, it's like just that one thing. And often that is the biggest thing with intuition is it doesn't give us the full answer. It doesn't say do this and this and this and you'll end up here. It gives you the next step. And it only gives you one step at a time. So that next step that it's showing you is really weird, and you're like, this doesn't make sense. Why would I do this? Enter gaslighting, enter self-doubt, enter like, you know, ignoring yourself. It's because it's just giving you that one next step because that's all you need. And we're gonna wrap it up there. I'm gonna leave it with that because I have so much more to say, but I realize I'm like, we could let's do another episode on this. We'll leave it with intuitive obedience, what it looks like, what it feels like. Let me know your questions about intuition. Drop me an email. It's contact at jenniferhully.com.
