Season 1 Episode 69

Ben Shewry, born in 1977 - the year that punk music broke open worldwide - in rural New Zealand, grew up in a creative and resourceful farming family with a strong connection to the environment and identity. Inspired to become a chef at just five years old, Ben started working in kitchens at 10 and pursued full-time culinary studies by 16. After honing his craft in New Zealand, he moved to Melbourne, Australia, where he became head chef at Attica in 2005 and later took ownership in 2015.

For nearly two decades, Ben has explored what it means to be a chef in Australia through culture, community, creativity, and commitment. His second book, Uses for Obsession, a raw and honest memoir, will be released on October 1, 2024.

On this episode, you will learn how to balance running a business with raising a family, how to foster resilience and creativity in leadership, how to implement staff well-being practices that build empathy and connection, how to support your children’s dreams and set a positive example, and why fearlessness is essential to creating an environment for personal and professional growth.
